What a GREAT umbrella!

What a GREAT umbrella!Living in NYC means setting off in sunshine and coming back in pouring rain. Getting around means walking. Whatever the weather. I usually check the forecast and put an umbrella in my bag, so fitting a daypack or shoulder bag matters. Those cheap umbrellas from street stands have lasted no time for me. Such a waste of a product. Then some small folding ones give you about a head's worth of shelter. This one is a bit longer packed away, but opened up there's proper coverage and it feels well put together. The beige color is easy to notice in a dark corner, which helps me remember to take it with me. For what it costs, this is a really good everyday umbrella.

This is one of those umbrella's I'm really glad I bought.

This is one of those umbrella's I'm really glad I bought. Being able to open it with a single press makes a difference when I've already got my hands full. No wrestling around trying to get it up before stepping into the rain. It feels well put together too. I'd happily recommend it to anyone wanting a straightforward umbrella that's convenient to use.

Richard Johns

The construction seems quite good.

It took a while to reach me. The construction seems quite good. I have not taken it to work yet. For normal use near home, it is satisfactory for the price. The finish is acceptable and the size is as described. I am satisfied with this purchase. I can recommend it.

May come back and add something after that.

Nothing wrong so far, but I haven't used it in the tornado rainy/windy season we get here yet. May come back and add something after that. It was out in a heavy rain recently and did a good job, better than several cheap umbrellas I've owned before. If you're in Philly and want a decent umbrella I'd say this is worth getting.

Bought the pink umbrella for my wife and she was very pleased with it.

Bought the pink umbrella for my wife and she was very pleased with it. The handle is a closed oval loop, which is easy to hold onto. The pink is on the outside with a black underside when it's open. It also has a sleeve to put it away in when you're not using it.

This has been a good fit.

I walk to and from work in Chicago and wanted an umbrella that wasn't enormous but wouldn't feel flimsy when the wind picked up. This has been a good fit. I like holding the oval handle and the whole umbrella feels properly assembled. Hopefully I'll be using it for a long time. A slightly shorter folded length would have made it easier to tuck into my backpack, but I'm happy with it.

Preston Jordan

I'd have liked a little more length in the shaft.

I'd have liked a little more length in the shaft. It's hard to picture how an umbrella will sit over you just from a list of sizes, to be fair. A photo showing someone holding it might make that easier? Still, I like its appearance and the quick way it pops open is very satisfying.

Levi Kirk

All told I'm happy with this umbrella and think it was worth the $20.

At 6'0" I'm a "tall" guy and tend to hold an umbrella higher than most people.I wanted enough coverage to make up for that and this one works well! It's what I expected from the description, a gray umbrella with a good amount of cover but not something huge. I'd still be careful taking it out when it's windy, for the usual reasons. I really like being able to press the button to open it, and after a month I've had no trouble. The loop handle is smaller than I had pictured. I can get my hand around it easily with a bit of space left, which took some getting used to. All told I'm happy with this umbrella and think it was worth the $20.

It looks good and seems sturdy.

A few weeks with this and I'm finding summer outdoors much easier. My skin burns quickly and too long in direct sunshine leaves me feeling pretty miserable, so having shade I can carry makes a real difference. I can linger outside instead of immediately looking for somewhere covered. Under the canopy it feels noticeably more comfortable to me. I've also had it out on breezy days and nothing has given me cause for concern yet. It looks good and seems sturdy. Other umbrellas I've used didn't feel as pleasant in the heat, so this is the one I'm reaching for now.

Handy for walking the course when my husband and I play golf.

Handy for walking the course when my husband and I play golf. I get a welcome bit of shade (and it doesn't look silly), without carrying a giant umbrella. A few of the people playing near us have asked where we found it because they'd like something similar. Glad we bought it!

Martha Klein

Wasn't entirely convinced at first, an umbrella is an umbrella, right?

People who live in a windy city will know what I mean here! A rainy walk is bad enough, then the wind gets between the buildings and you end up fighting your umbrella instead of getting where you need to go. After buying the cheap ones and regretting it, I spent a bit more on this one. Wasn't entirely convinced at first, an umbrella is an umbrella, right? But out walking in the rain I was mostly thinking about my destination, not about keeping the thing above my head. It was only seeing other people wrestling with theirs that I paid attention to the wind. Mine was feeling quite manageable and I could carry on walking normally, which is the whole point! Now the reason I stopped at four stars. For something that folds down, it has a fair bit of weight to it. Not terrible when I'm going to work or popping out for a few things, but I wouldn't call it the little umbrella you forget is in your bag. On a longer trip every bit of weight matters, and this also takes up some space. The sleeve is useful for putting it away neatly, yes, but doesn't make the whole thing any smaller or lighter. I'd still pack a lighter umbrella if luggage was the main concern. For the everyday running around though, this is a good umbrella.

Lindsay Barr

Still has a certain weight when you're carrying it though~^^

Wanted plenty of cover without carrying a long umbrella around, and this fits that idea quite well. The handle is an oval loop rather than a hook, which is handy for hanging it up. It folds into something I can actually take along, although I wouldn't say it disappears in a bag. This is a repeat purchase for me; I lost the first one and decided to get the same sort again. Opening is just a button press, and you can fold the canopy with it too, then push the shaft back down by hand. Oh, it seems a little lighter in use somehow? Still has a certain weight when you're carrying it though~^^

Xavier Romero

The umbrella itself is lovely though, and I'm glad I ordered it.

About a week passed before it turned up, and the packaging looked pretty battered. Usually I just throw the box away without thinking, but this one had me worried :/Once it was out I checked the handle and the top, then opened it up to see whether everything was alright. Nothing was damaged, thankfully, and the opening worked straight away. The cream white looks extremely cute, so that was a relief after the first impression. I tried closing it too; the canopy folds with the button and then the shaft needs pushing down manually. It all worked normally. I wish the parcel had made a better impression, since I spent longer checking it than admiring it at first. The umbrella itself is lovely though, and I'm glad I ordered it.

Bought a pair, keeping one myself and giving the other to a friend.

Bought a pair, keeping one myself and giving the other to a friend. We're both delighted with them. I'm after another black one for a different friend now. These are great, though a shorter folded length would suit my bag better, as I am forever putting umbrellas down and forgetting them.

Logan Villa

Finally stopped throwing money at cheap umbrellas.

Finally stopped throwing money at cheap umbrellas. Over a year all those little purchases probably added up to a ridiculous amount, so I said screw it and paid more for this one. Best decision. The city wind hasn't sent it inside out on me, and it keeps me dry. Now I can just walk on by, dry and feeling pretty smug, instead of fighting my umbrella every few steps.

Jackie Kerr

For normal rain it has done a good job.

Fairly solid umbrella - the ribs have some give rather than feeling rigid all the way across. In a gust the canopy can change shape a bit, so I sometimes have to shift it to stay covered. For normal rain it has done a good job. I like it overall, just wouldn't choose it for a very exposed walk.

Edward Stevenson

This is a handy replacement and I'm finding it easier to take along.

I've had folding umbrellas since my college days, and my old one was with me for 45 years before it finally wore out. This is a handy replacement and I'm finding it easier to take along. Folded down, it goes in my bag without a long handle sticking out, so I'm more likely to have it when I need it! It opens quickly too.Hoping this one gives me many years of use, just like the old one!

Candice Clay

We both LOVE it.

We both LOVE it. There's room for two underneath. Getting into the car is so much easier: hold it overhead, pull the door partly shut, press the button to fold the canopy, then bring it inside onto the floor by my left foot. NICE. My dad wanted one for Christmas after seeing the one I'd given my mom. I got one for my sister as well. Ordered online since the shop at our local outlet had closed.

Paula Duke

The cream white looks cheerful and I like using it on a dull day.

The cream white looks cheerful and I like using it on a dull day.It gives me good cover, only thing is putting it away takes a little fiddling. Button shuts the canopy but I still need to compress the stem, so not a completely one handed job.but I'm glad I got it!

Update: finally had some rain and took it out with two of us sharing.

Some of the earlier comments made me unsure, so here is how mine has been so far. It arrived without any problems and I can't really add anything dramatic on that front. As for the umbrella, my first impression was that it looked fairly ordinary. The frame feels more substantial once you open it, though, and there is a decent amount of cover for something that folds up. I haven't needed it in rain yet, so this is mostly about how it handles. The loop handle is comfortable enough, just a different shape from what I normally reach for. Folded it is not the tiniest option either. At this stage I would say good value, with the real test still to come. Update: finally had some rain and took it out with two of us sharing. We stayed close together and it covered us well, felt good to hold too. I like it more now I've actually been out with it! You do need to mind the edges on a narrow walkway, I found myself steering round lamp posts and stepping aside rather than barging through. Still pleased with it overall.

Shari Hayes

I also really like the closed oval handle

Florida showers can be a bit much (as anyone else with unpredictable rain probably knows). This umbrella has dealt with the wet and blustery days I've used it on without flipping over like the flimsy ones I've had before. The beige still looks fresh and hasn't faded on me. There's enough cover that my shoulders aren't left out in the rain... which is rather the point. I also really like the closed oval handle; it's a neat looking detail and feels good in my hand.

Caleb Hart

It opens easily with the button and gives me enough cover on my own.

I wanted something I could pack for a trip to Europe without carrying a full length umbrella around everywhere. The cream white seemed a sensible choice with the coat and trousers I was planning to wear most days, and it does look nice with them. It opens easily with the button and gives me enough cover on my own. Folded up, it isn't quite as tiny as I had hoped, so I still need to leave some room in my bag. Overall I like it, although the price feels a little high for a travel umbrella.

Laurie Stanley

No fiddly bits for her to wrestle with that way.

My toddler wanted a pink umbrella, so that was the main reason for choosing this one.LASTINGWe've had it around a year now, and it hasn't exactly been treated carefully, but it's still doing its job.CARRYINGI deal with the button and putting it away, she gets to carry it. No fiddly bits for her to wrestle with that way. It has landed handle-first on the ground too, which made me wince, but it's all still together. The loop gives her something definite to hang on to. Good for our rainy walks, and yes, there are already plenty of photos of her proudly holding it.

Christy Mack

Very happy with it for that sort of use.

I can see why some people might want something more heavy duty, but that isn't what I need. For a quick dash from class to class, or from the car into work, this has been just right. Where I am the summer rain comes and goes, so I'd rather have something that folds away between showers than lug a huge umbrella around. Very happy with it for that sort of use.

Cody Johnson

Mine measures about 40cm folded and weighs roughly 390g.

Handy to put in my bag when the forecast can't make up its mind, compact without feeling insubstantial. Mine measures about 40cm folded and weighs roughly 390g. The button pops it open, so there's no awkward pushing it up. It takes a firm push to shorten the shaft after the canopy closes, but I'm happy with how solid it feels once ready to use.

Roberta Brady

My only niggle is the handle picking up little surface marks.

I've had it through a couple of rainy days now and it's worked well. Looks much smarter than the cheap umbrellas I've owned, so the small extra cost feels worthwhile. There is decent coverage without having to carry a great big golf umbrella. My only niggle is the handle picking up little surface marks. Nothing that stops me using it, though.

Veronica Trujillo

Can't ask much more than that.

Losing my beige umbrella at the airport made me wonder if I'd find another I liked.--Opens at a button press--Canopy closes by button, shaft pushes back by hand--Has coped with everyday wind--Oval handle clips onto my backpack, so I don't have to hold it till the rain starts. And it cost close to what I'd paid for the old one. Can't ask much more than that.

Wendy Larson

Feels steady when the wind catches it

I've had this out in several Chicago downpours and it's been a very useful umbrella. Main things for me!+ Coverage. Me and my work bag fit under it, but I'm not taking over the whole sidewalk.+ Frame. Feels steady when the wind catches it; I haven't had to wrestle it about.+ Carrying. Not featherlight, but manageable, and the oval handle sits nicely in my hand.I'd suggest it for anyone with a walk to work, or who actually spends time outside in the rain rather than just running between a car and a doorway!

i gave this to my dad for christmas and it looked smart and felt well made,he likes it in the rain but its a bit heavier than he'd choose for carrying about all day. the button works fine the shaft just needs pushing down by hand afterwards, which took him a little getting used to so its okay rather than brilliant.

Finally had proper rain last week and got to try it.

Living in the city I don't get much use out of an umbrella during the drier weeks, so this sat around for a while. Finally had proper rain last week and got to try it. There was a fair bit of wind too, and it felt steady in my hand. The cream white looks very nice, my friends commented on it.The reason for four stars is mainly the size when folded. I carry a backpack nearly all the time and it takes up more room than I wanted. Also, although my head and shoulders stayed dry, my trousers and the lower part of my bag still got wet when the rain blew sideways. Overall I like it for the money. Would happily take it out again, rain permitting! LOL

Dennis Wilkinson

It isn't some enormous canopy but it's a good useful size for us.

GREAT umbrella - I wanted more room over me when it rains without having a long umbrella to lug around, and this has worked out nicely! I like the water dripping a bit farther away from my legs, AND having room to tuck my little pup close when we're out walking. It isn't some enormous canopy but it's a good useful size for us. The one bit I'd change is the effort to shorten it after closing - the button shuts the canopy, but pushing the stem in takes a firm hand. Maybe that's just the spring? Not enough to put me off though - I'm keeping this one!

Worth spending a little more on this one...

Worth spending a little more on this one... I've had enough of flimsy umbrellas and wanted something that felt like it would last. This has a reassuring feel, and has done well on windy, rainy days without being awkward to hold. I never thought I cared about an automatic umbrella, but opening it with one hand makes a difference when I'm carrying my messenger bag, yoga mat and lunch. (The button brings the canopy down too, then I use both hands to push the shaft back in :) ). The fabric feels substantial and the loop handle is comfortable in my hand. Overall I'm very happy with it and feel it was money well spent.

Joyce Christian

this one is useful for shade rather than just rain.

I tend to get an umbrella for the summer season; this one is useful for shade rather than just rain. It gets very hot where I live, so having the canopy over me makes a difference. The simple appearance suits me and I don't feel silly carrying it on a sunny day. I recommend it for that. Thanks to the seller.

Anita Pratt

* The oval loop handle is comfortable to carry.

I wanted an umbrella worth keeping with me for the walk to the bus, rather than another tiny one that barely covers me. The usual compact size is convenient in a bag, but I was ready to give up a little space for something more substantial. This has been a much better fit for that job. * It is heavier than the smallest folding umbrellas, and feels more solid in use. * The canopy gives useful coverage once opened; it doesn't feel miniature just because it folds. * There are 30 flexible ribs, so the frame feels well supported. * The oval loop handle is comfortable to carry. Not a curved hook. * A sleeve is included for putting it away. * The button sends it up quickly and brings the canopy down again. You still push the telescoping shaft back in yourself. It does take up more room when packed than the very tiny models, and no, I haven't put it on a scale. That matters less to me than having decent cover while waiting for the bus. Nothing about using it feels flimsy, which was the point of buying it. A purchase I'm glad I made.

Annette Peck

This seems a good balance.

I spent longer choosing an umbrella than i probably needed to, but this has worked out well. On NYC sidewalks i want enough cover for myself without taking over the entire pavement. This seems a good balance. It isn't one of those giant umbrellas that you have to keep steering around everybody else. I do need to watch where the edge is, since you can't see through the blue fabric, but keeping my view clear hasn't been difficult. The folding size matters too - i can put it in my bag once i'm indoors rather than carrying a long wet umbrella around. The bonus is the automatic opening when i'm stepping out again w/ things in my hands. It has felt steady in ordinary wind, though i wouldn't call anything this size a storm solution. I'm considering a second to keep as a backup.

Matches the description, quite compact folded and a proper size once opened. it is a bit thicker bundled up than a really slim umbrella, but looks solid and goes into my sling bag without trouble. i have not much else to say, opening is easy and the fabric looks good. recommended

The push button is handy and the whole thing feels quite sturdy.

I'm 5'10" and the tiny folding umbrellas I've used tend to leave my feet getting soaked. This one spreads out enough to give me decent cover, while still packing down to carry. The push button is handy and the whole thing feels quite sturdy. It is heavier than the really small ones, which seems fair considering the size when open. When I misplace an umbrella, this is the kind I come back for.

Steven Gregory

A decent umbrella for what I paid, and it's been useful over the last couple of months. I tend to leave it on the back seat of the car, although it probably ought to go somewhere it won't get squashed by whatever gets put in there. The frame seems fine for normal rain, I'm just not sure I'd trust it in really strong wind. It's kinda compact once folded, so finding a better spot shouldn't be too difficult. For someone like me who misplaces umbrellas, the price makes more sense than spending a fortune on one I'd be scared to lose.

Candace Valencia

A purchase I'm happy to recommend.

The construction made a good first impression on me. It feels solid in the hand and opens to a useful size, without that flimsy feeling some folding umbrellas have. I've only needed it three times, so I can't say anything definite about how many years it will last. Based on the frame and the fabric, though, I beleive it should wear well. Slips into my computer case, so bringing it every day is no trouble. A purchase I'm happy to recommend.

Dana Hobbs

For everyday showers it's sturdy and handy to have with me.

For everyday showers it's sturdy and handy to have with me. If the rain gets heavy I'd still wear a coat, or want a little extra cover. It's a useful size rather than an enormous umbrella. Folded it goes in my larger cross body bag, which makes it easy to take along.

i was after a beige umbrella and this one looked like a good buy, but the shade isn't quite what i thought from the photo... looks more like a deeper tan to me, not the pale beige i had pictured.. a bit disappointing on that part, still it works fine and fits my larger purse when it's all folded up, and the carry sleeve is quite cute too

Clarence Blackwell

My 3-year-old is thrilled with this umbrella.

My 3-year-old is thrilled with this umbrella. I do the opening and closing for him, and the button action is nice and smooth. It feels reasonably strong for everyday use, though I wouldn't ask any umbrella to handle everything the wind throws at it. It has survived his cane-playing too.

Logan Wilkinson

Keeps me dry, just not quite what I wanted to carry every day.

I wanted small but practical - the button opens & closes the canopy fine. I got use to carrying a smaller umbrella though, and this feels bulkier than I need. You still press the pole down yourself once the canopy closes, that's normal but another step for me. Keeps me dry, just not quite what I wanted to carry every day. I might pass it on and get something smaller.

Heather Noble

It has handled breezy rain nicely.

I'm getting another, that's how much I like it!!! Pretty to look at and the button is so useful when I'm carrying things and trying to get through a door. It has handled breezy rain nicely. A gust turned the canopy over once, but there was no damage and it went back into shape quite easily. I've carried on using it with no trouble.

Travis Cardenas

this umbrella comes with me in CA and gives nice shade.

i don't stay out in sunshine longer than i have to. this umbrella comes with me in CA and gives nice shade. very happy with it. finding what i wanted was another thing :( too many listings to search and still hard to see which one is right for me。。。 glad i finally have one

Doris Mora

The closed oval loop on the handle is a useful shape for carrying it.

I had pictured being able to fit two people underneath this umbrella, but looking at it open I think that would mean both people getting a wet shoulder. For one person there is a decent amount of cover though. The fabric has a more substantial feel than the one I was replacing and it makes quite a sharp flapping noise as it springs out. Hard to describe a noise in writing, but I find it rather satisfying anyway. Giving it a shake afterwards gets a fair amount of water off. I wouldn't call it dry at that point, so I still leave it out before putting it away properly, but it isn't dripping nearly as much. Weight wise it feels easy enough to carry and nothing about it looks flimsy to me. How it will hold up over a long time I can't really say yet. I'm not going to start bending things about to find out where its limits are and then wish I hadn't. The video demonstrations I've watched looked encouraging, although watching something on a screen isn't quite the same as using it yourself. The closed oval loop on the handle is a useful shape for carrying it. There is room for my fingers and no narrow end pressing into my hand. The button makes opening quick and also draws the canopy shut. After that you still have to shorten the telescoping part yourself, which is straightforward once you know that is how it works. There is a sleeve included for putting it away, and the whole thing is a sensible size folded up. I'll add more if my opinion changes. Update: getting it into the sleeve is easier if I take a moment to wrap the fabric neatly first.

Haven't taken a photo but it's a good umbrella!

Haven't taken a photo but it's a good umbrella! Feels decent. Button sends it open quickly and folds the canopy back down too, then you push the pole in. Plenty of cover without taking up much room packed. Has some weight but fine for leaving in the car. Good value ! ! !

Anne Michael

I really love this umbrella.

Finally, a button that CLOSES the canopy too! I really love this umbrella. Between all the things I carry and using a cane after knee surgery, it's a relief to fold the canopy with one press. The rest is lovely as well -- plenty of coverage for something portable, a pretty cream white, and a mechanism and ribs that feel well made. Really good value!

Melinda Gould

First, the position of the handle doesn't quite suit my height.

I've been using this umbrella through the changes in the weather, rather than just taking it out for one shower and deciding it is wonderful. It has seen gentle spring rain, heavy summer downpours, blustery autumn days and some thoroughly cold, wet weather. So far the fabric looks much as it did at the start, the ribs are still neatly in place, and the button operation hasn't become sticky or temperamental. It has stood up well to gusts on streets where buildings seem to funnel all the wind straight at you. I wouldn't deliberately put any umbrella through the worst a storm can offer, but for getting around in bad weather this one has earned my confidence. The size is a particularly good compromise: I get proper coverage without feeling that I'm taking over the whole sidewalk when everyone else has an umbrella up too. The Cream White is also prettier in person than I expected. I've had people comment on it, which isn't something that generally happens with an everyday rain umbrella. There are a couple of small changes I would make, although neither has stopped me reaching for this one. First, the position of the handle doesn't quite suit my height. I'm short, and sometimes find it more comfortable to hold just above the oval loop instead of where I assume my hand is meant to go. This may be more a question of my proportions than anything else; I seem to have a similar negotiation with most umbrellas. Apparently the taller people get first consideration. The other thing is how easily I can reach the button when I'm putting it away. A press folds the canopy, then I push the shaft down to reset it. Once I've done that, I have occasionally caught the button while trying to fasten the strap and opened it again. Holding everything together and keeping my thumb out of the way is a slightly awkward exercise when it's wet. On the other hand, the button is wonderfully easy to find when I actually need it, so perhaps I shouldn't complain about my own clumsy fingers. Those are fairly small qualifications to a very positive experience. It remains the umbrella I reach for first, and I feel comfortable relying on it to get me home dry.

Manuel Ellis

Nothing wrong with how it works, just my preferences.

Went for pink - it fits in my messenger bag and feels fairly substantial, not flimsy. My small gripes are the oval loop handle looking a bit more noticeable than I'd prefer, and needing to push the shaft down after the button folds the canopy. Nothing wrong with how it works, just my preferences. Still a good purchase!
