After getting tired of replacing flimsy umbrellas, I decided to spend a little more on this one. I must say: it feels like money well spent. The construction is much more substantial than the cheap ones I used to pick up. There are 30 ribs, with some flexibility to them rather than a completely rigid feel. I don't take that to mean it should be used in a storm, but for everyday rain I have been very happy. It is also a sensible size. Enough canopy when open, without having a long umbrella to find space for afterwards. Folded, it goes in my bag, although it is heavier than my really cheap ones were. The oval loop handle looked a little odd to me at first (I usually prefer a plain handle), but holding it is comfortable. Given what I spent, I am also making more effort not to leave this one behind. The only part that takes effort is resetting the telescoping stem after the button has closed the canopy. I press it in by hand, which took a little getting used to. Not entirely automatic putting away, but nonetheless a very good umbrella.

The fabric and general finish feel good.
Needed a replacement for my old compact umbrella and this has been a good choice. The fabric and general finish feel good. Button action is smooth. Covers me and the courier bag I wear across my body (I'm medium build...someone much bigger might want extra room). Folds down to a useful size for keeping in my bag until the weather turns.

Love having this umbrella.
Love having this umbrella. I've ended up buying three and friends keep asking me to get one for them It gives a good amount of cover without being awkward to carry. Gray looks nice although I'd normally pick something brighter. The ribs feel sturdy. Certainly happy to recommend.

I'd be happy to get another when I need one.
I've put a fair amount of use into this umbrella and it's held up well. It has coped with the gusts I've been caught in, though I wouldn't treat any compact umbrella as something for a serious storm. The opening is still easy and I like having something familiar to take with me. I'd be happy to get another when I need one.My only hesitation is the price---it's more than I normally expect to spend on a folding umbrella. Good overall, but I would feel better about buying a spare if it cost a little less.

Heat and I have a bad history.
Heat and I have a bad history. After heat exhaustion working along the southern border, and then more trouble after being transferred to Florida, I have to be very careful how much time I spend in the sun. Even a short walk from the car to a shop can feel like too much. Having some shade over me for those walks is such a relief. I still keep my time outside short, but this makes the necessary trips a lot more comfortable. Friends have asked to borrow it for outings with their kids or grandkids, or a day at the park with family visiting. It's nice to have shade you can take along rather than hoping there's a tree nearby. I keep this one in my purse and leave a bigger umbrella in the car. It has become something I don't like being without. I've told family and friends about it and would happily buy another!

Online reviews helped me choose this umbrella.
Online reviews helped me choose this umbrella. Living in Manhattan means I deal with a lot of windy streets. It has done well for me so far and I havent had any trouble using it. I might still want something larger for really heavy rain. I would recommend this one.
Terrance Stark
So yes, I'd recommend it.
Update: Still using this and it is holding up fine. Checked back to see when I got it, and it has been longer than I realised. No trouble with it. My first comments are below:----I don't usually bother putting reviews up, least of all when something works, but I've been making more effort lately. Choosing an umbrella took me ages because I kept reading the worst reviews first. By the end I'd convinced myself not to get anything, even the ones most people seemed happy with. I looked at some much dearer umbrellas too, but couldn't see enough in the comments to justify spending the extra. Ended up taking a chance on this one and I am glad I did. I've had about a month of wet, windy days with it so far and it's coped fine. You do have to pay attention to which way you're holding it. I've been caught out a few times and the canopy hasn't turned inside out on me. For what I paid I don't feel I needed to spend more. Not expecting anything to last forever, but I'd choose it again without worrying about the expense. Couldn't say that about something several times the price. So yes, I'd recommend it. A useful size opened up and looks decent too. Occasionally wish carrying it with full hands was easier though.

This has handled the rain far better than I expected.
This has handled the rain far better than I expected. I've had it out in proper downpours and some blustery weather and it still feels solid. My biggest worry is me leaving it next to the seat on the train, i do that with everything. Otherwise a very good way to spend the money.

Unless they have all gone on vacation, naturally.
Looking too fashionable is apparently something everybody around me has an opinion residing in their mouth about. Unless they have all gone on vacation, naturally. It rains here almost daily, so I wanted an umbrella I actually enjoyed carrying. The pictures looked lovely, then I started wondering whether it was a bit too pleased with itself :) My wife thought I was making a ridiculous fuss about an umbrella. Now it seems to belong to her whenever it rains! There is something very pleasing about the shape of it opened out, with all those ribs sitting neatly together. I can admire the construction and still just use it to stay dry, which was the original idea somewhere in all this. Neither of us looks overly fashionable walking along with it either. Successful purchase!

Nice to have one I actually trust to use.
Umbrellas haven't generally lasted me very long, so this time I spent a bit more hoping to avoid another disappointment. I read a lot of reviews before picking one, and even the expensive choices seemed to have plenty of unhappy customers. That didn't make deciding any easier. Eventually I settled on this one because the comments sounded encouraging, and so far I'm glad I did. It's been out with me several times now and feels reassuringly sturdy when it's open. Nice to have one I actually trust to use. The next challenge is remembering where I put it and not leaving it behind.
Ivan House
A really useful umbrella.
A really useful umbrella. Enough cover to keep me dry, but not so wide that I'm forever bumping into everything. I think the gray looks smart too, much nicer than the usual boring umbrella. The opening button is probably my favourite bit. One press and it's ready. Packing it up takes more strength than I expected, as you have to compress the shaft after closing the canopy. That's my only grumble. Still an excellent umbrella!
Robyn Garner
Useful shade on sunny days.
Useful shade on sunny days. The frame is a little more flexible than I expected, but I'm not trying to use it in rough weather; I mainly wanted something to carry against the sun. The opened size suits me and it isn't awkward to take along. I bought a pair and keep one in everyday use.
Charlene Preston
Neat looking umbrella.
Neat looking umbrella. I wasn't sure about such a simple design, but it looks good in person. It's been out often (about two months of rain round here) and I'm happy with it. A little smaller than I'd pictured, but enough for one person. Being able to open it with a button is handy. Would recommend.
Anne Daniel
It is very attractive and feels of good quality.
It is very attractive and feels of good quality. There are plenty of flexible ribs and the canopy stays firm in the wind. The fabric is thick and rain has not got through, and it is useful for shade in sunshine as well. It was carefully packed and reached me earlier than I was expecting.
Erica Gordon
What a lovely thing - the cream white looks really nice in person.
Picked this up for my son, who is four, after going back and forth over which umbrella to buy. What a lovely thing - the cream white looks really nice in person. He can hold it himself and is very pleased with the button, though I help him finish putting it away. It's a proper hit here!! You get a much better idea of the finish when you're holding it than from pictures. Really pleased we went with this one and would happily recommend it for a child with a grown up helping.
Leah Sloan
VERY pleased with how solid it feels.
For anyone who wants some shade instead of sitting in direct sunshine, this has been very handy! I take it along to little league games and the pool, and it gets borrowed quite often. Works for rain too.VERY pleased with how solid it feels. There is enough canopy that I do have to mind the people sitting close by, and I wouldn't leave it open on the ground if it's breezy. The sleeve is useful for putting it away, and I carry it by the closed loop handle when folded. Not the smallest thing to carry, but worth it for me.
Candice Yang
For the quality of it, I still think it was a good buy.
My husband is using this one. I'd hoped it would fold a little shorter to slide into his briefcase more easily. There is a bit more weight to it than I pictured too, though the frame feels reassuringly substantial. For the quality of it, I still think it was a good buy.
Kelly Douglas
This comes very close to the umbrella I wished someone would make.
This comes very close to the umbrella I wished someone would make. My wife tries to avoid long spells in direct sun, so having some shade while watching our daughter play soccer makes a difference. The black underside is pleasant to sit beneath, without a bright surface overhead. It works for a passing shower too, so we don't have to take separate things for sun and rain. I ended up ordering two. We can share one at a squeeze, but it's nicer to have our own space when we're sitting on the sidelines. A few people have asked about them already, which doesn't surprise me now that we've used ours. For a folding umbrella it feels very substantial, yet we can pack it away when the game is over. Money well spent in my opinion.

My two boys are rough on their things.
My two boys are rough on their things. We've had plenty of umbrellas and I am always a bit doubtful about letting them take a new one to school. On a really wet day I let them take these, and both came home in one piece. The flexible ribs seem to suit them better than something very rigid. They also try using umbrellas as walking sticks, which I keep telling them not to do. The awkward bit is pushing the shaft back down, that can need a little help. So far these still work, and no leaks, which is the main thing for me.
Evelyn Shaw
The one thing I would alter is the handle.
I went for the Beige umbrella and, having used it now, I'm glad I chose it.It was neatly packed with a sleeve to put it back into. The whole thing has a solid appearance, quite smart without looking fussy. That sleeve is only average in my opinion, a close fit which takes a little patience when putting the folded umbrella away. It is useful to have though.
Once spread out the cover is a decent size for me, with room for somebody to squeeze alongside if needed. The frame feels substantial and the ribs have some give, which I prefer to a frame that feels rigid and delicate. Pressing the opening button sends it right out ready for use. Pressing it again draws the canopy shut, after which you still have to push the telescoping shaft down yourself. That part is straightforward once you know what to expect.
Folded down, it's a sensible size to put in a bag. Not a tiny pocket umbrella, but considering the area it covers I think the balance is good. The one thing I would alter is the handle. The closed oval loop seems sturdy enough, but I don't find it especially comfortable to wrap my hand around. A little more space for my grip would make it nicer. It hasn't stopped me using it and the rest of the umbrella makes up for that small reservation.
Overall:
Good points -
* Smart appearance
* Sleeve included
* Generous cover
* Frame feels solid
* Manageable folded size
* Button opening and canopy closing
Less good -
* Sleeve takes a bit of fiddling
* Handle could be more comfortable

For city life this is a good looking umbrella that does what I need.
For city life this is a good looking umbrella that does what I need. I've had enough of cheap ones grabbed on a street corner when a shower starts.- Build: Feels solid. Has coped with breezy days, though I wouldn't treat any folding umbrella as storm equipment.- Appearance: The plain canopy is smart and the oval handle gives it a neat, different look. I've had compliments on it.- Price: Reasonable enough that carrying it around doesn't feel like guarding something precious. I'd still be annoyed if I left it in a bar, but at least it wasn't a huge investment.
Tricia Harrison
Still, a useful improvement on the umbrellas I've had before.
The good points are the quick opening, the neat canopy closure and how it has held up in gusty rain. Less keen on the effort needed to compress the pole afterwards, and it isn't the lightest thing in my bag. Still, a useful improvement on the umbrellas I've had before.
Kirk Bell
Definitely a purchase I'd recommend.
I'd been considering this umbrella for some time, and replacing my old one finally gave me the excuse. It seems sturdy and has kept me comfortable on wet, breezy days. I think it looks smart, and a few people have said the same when I've carried it. Definitely a purchase I'd recommend.
Veronica Kelley
Useful for a shower or for sitting out of the sun.
The umbrella has a neat look that makes me smile when I pick it up. Makes a rainy day feel a little less miserable :-)I find it comfortable to carry, it seems fairly durable and the plain black fabric still looks good. Useful for a shower or for sitting out of the sun.
Stacey Lowery
Once open there's a good amount of cover.
After fifteen years with my old umbrella I finally needed a replacement. I've had this one about six months now, and overall I'm happy with how it works. It feels a little bulkier in my bag than I had pictured for a compact umbrella, so I do notice it there. I still appreciate how neatly it folds and how easy the button is to use. Once open there's a good amount of cover. Whether it will manage the long life of my previous one I can't say yet, but so far it's a good replacement.
Dalton Cardenas
Really pleased with how nice it looks in person!
Rain is a regular thing here around Seattle, so this has already earned its place. That blue is a cheerful sight when everything outside looks dull! After seeing mine I ordered one each for my mom and sister in New York. Really pleased with how nice it looks in person!
Melody Forbes
Very pleased with this umbrella.
Very pleased with this umbrella. The price felt reasonable, and it has more substance to it than those really flimsy ones. A press opens it and another brings the canopy down, then I push the shaft in. Easy enough. It feels steady in the rain and I don't have that constant worry about every breeze. Only thing is the folded length, it doesn't slip neatly into my medium purse like I hoped. Still, I'll happily carry it separately rather than give up the decent coverage!
Mia Carson
I treated myself to this umbrella and I'm glad I did.
I treated myself to this umbrella and I'm glad I did.I enjoy having something decent to grab when the rain starts, it feels well made. The previous umbrella I owned got left on public transport and never found its way back to me.This would be a nice useful gift for somebody too.
Wesley Esparza
Been using it for a while now.
Been using it for a while now. Nice to look at. And quite practical. Gives me good cover in the rain, and the button saves a bit of fuss getting it up. My only gripe is that it's bulkier folded than I'd imagined, so it takes a fair chunk of bag space. A bit annoying when I'm already carrying too much.
Mackenzie Long
Eight months in and I'm still impressed with this umbrella.
Eight months in and I'm still impressed with this umbrella. The button action is reliable, the frame feels solid, and a quick shake gets a surprising amount of water off before I go inside. I live in a tropical climate where the monthly storms can get pretty wild, even bringing trees down. I use this in the manageable rain rather than those extremes, and it has kept its shape and dries out nicely. Still looking almost new!
Cynthia Kaiser
They are pleased with them and so am I.
Bought two for my twins, who are four. They were delighted to get them and particularly like the loop at the bottom. The umbrellas seem sturdy and nicely put together. They can manage the button themselves, with me helping to push the shafts down afterwards. The canopy gives them much better cover around their heads than their previous little umbrellas did. They are pleased with them and so am I.
Toni Mcneil
Nice to have something I can use for sun as well as rain.
Such a cute umbrella and a handy size- enough to cover me without being huge. Nice to have something I can use for sun as well as rain. The little sleeve is useful too. My only gripe is getting the fabric neatly wrapped again, I have to fuss with it a bit before putting it away.
Amy Padilla
why keep spending on umbrella's you only get a few uses out of.
why keep spending on umbrella's you only get a few uses out of. I leave these around for rainy days, and the only ones I've lost have been forgotten in a taxi or at a bar. The one hand button opening is great when your juggling things. Folded it isn't too awkward to carry but there's plenty over you once its open.
Erik Brandt
Surprisingly solid for an umbrella I can actually carry about.
Surprisingly solid for an umbrella I can actually carry about. In the rain and wind I've used it in, I haven't felt as if I'm about to take off like some ridiculous umbrella-powered kite. MUCH more reassuring than the flimsy one I used to have!! A proper little umbrella that feels worth what I paid for it!!
Katelyn Chase
The umbrella feels properly made, not some flimsy novelty.
I expected the unusual handle to be more of a gimmick than anything useful- turns out I was being unfair. The umbrella feels properly made, not some flimsy novelty. The opening action is smooth and the canopy comes down neatly when I press the button. It's become my everyday umbrella for taking into the office. I've had a few curious looks at the closed loop handle, but I rather like it. Apparently even buying an umbrella can make me look like I'm trying to be interesting. :P
Sierra Morton
Its useful, just smaller coverage than a long umbrella.
Nice compact umbrella and works fine, but not something to swing like a sword.I use longer umbrellas as well and this one is handier to carry. My roommate swung it about as if it was a toy, really not what its for.Its useful, just smaller coverage than a long umbrella.Overall good for carrying around, treat it as an umbrella.

It also looks smart, which is a nice extra on top of being practical.
Several wet commutes in and this umbrella has been a very useful purchase. I travel by train and bus, so I need something that covers me properly but isn't a nuisance once I'm on board. Opened up, there's comfortable room for me and space to squeeze another person underneath when necessary. My old little umbrella was easy to pack but left far too much of me outside it. This one folds small enough for my work bag while giving better shelter. I let it dry before putting the sleeve on, then it sits tidily with the rest of my things. It dries reasonably quickly too. It also looks smart, which is a nice extra on top of being practical.
Lauren Beltran
Overall I'm very happy with the replacement and would recommend it.
My old umbrella had given up, so I wanted a straightforward replacement and this has suited me well. It packs away neatly without feeling too small once open. With the old one I often felt rain reaching my shoulders from the sides, whereas this gives me better cover across my upper body. Still need to hold it sensibly in slanting rain, of course. Overall I'm very happy with the replacement and would recommend it.

All in all I don't wish I'd bought a different umbrella.
I've had this umbrella for a few months and use it mostly to make some shade. It does that nicely. I had wondered whether another style might feel cooler, but in practice I've been quite content with this one. The construction seems careful, and it has coped with the ordinary breezes I've met without any drama. It's an easy size for one person, not something huge to carry about. I also like the closed loop handle, it gives me somewhere secure to keep hold when I'm standing around with it folded. The many ribs make a pretty shape when it's open, which is a small thing but something I notice every time. All in all I don't wish I'd bought a different umbrella.

i jumped the first time i tried it!
i jumped the first time i tried it! the button opens it, then another press closes the canopy. yes... getting into the car, that same little button lets me shut it with one hand! such a great idea, all umbrellas ought to do this, unless there's a patent stopping them!
Jordan Trevino
Nothing permanently bent.
The first proper rainfall of the year brought plenty of wind, naturally. A gust got underneath and turned the umbrella inside out, which honestly wasn't a huge surprise. The ribs flexed and it went back into shape, so I carried on using it. Nothing permanently bent. Also appreciate that it comes with a sleeve. The oval handle feels secure in my hand, and the folded umbrella stays together in the bag instead of becoming another loose... flappy... thing to wrestle with among everything else I carry (because apparently I need to bring half the house with me)
Kylie Pennington
I got this to replace the same umbrella I'd lost on my last trip.
I got this to replace the same umbrella I'd lost on my last trip. It's small and light enough to go in a bag or backpack without adding much bulk. I keep another one in the car glove compartment as well. It doesn't take up much space in there, and I'm glad to have it ready whenever it's needed.
Tracey Velez
The blue is a nice clear colour and the material looks decent.
Bought these as a just-in-case option for my daughter's yacht club wedding. She wants beach photos, rain or no rain, so I'd rather have umbrellas ready. Hopefully buying them will be enough to keep the clouds away. The blue is a nice clear colour and the material looks decent. I wouldn't expect miracles in a storm, but for ordinary rain they seem perfectly suitable. Two people can get close under one for a photo, though I wouldn't call it roomy for two. For what we paid I'm pleased, especially compared with the ones I looked at locally.
Madeline Wheeler
A very practical umbrella that I'm glad I bought.
Opening it one-handed is wonderfully convenient when I'm carrying things. A press puts it up, another folds the fabric down, and I slide the shaft back in by hand before packing it away. The handle is comfortable to grip and the material has stayed looking tidy despite being left on the car floor. There's enough cover for me and the stuff I haul between the car and my office. A very practical umbrella that I'm glad I bought.
Alisha Ritter
What I haven't quite warmed to is the last part of closing it.
The frame seems sturdy and I like the overall quality of this umbrella. What I haven't quite warmed to is the last part of closing it. I was replacing an old automatic umbrella, so convenience was high on my list. Here the button opens it and also collapses the canopy, so that part works just as it should. You still have to press the telescoping shaft back down by hand afterwards. I understand that is how this model operates, not a fault, but I find that extra push less convenient than I had hoped. For the price I would have preferred an easier finish to putting it away.
Andrew Guerra
The button needs a firm press but works nicely, otherwise lovely!
it was here within a few days and people have commented on how pretty it is. The beige looks just like the photo. the plain canopy has a nice simple look, and I like the dark underside. The button needs a firm press but works nicely, otherwise lovely! It came with a useful sleeve too.
Joanne Moreno
Umbrellas cost enough without buying something flimsy twice.
Honestly, I'd rather pay for a decent umbrella once than keep replacing cheap ones.I tried saving a few dollars on my last one and it barely made it through a year. This one feels much more substantial, and the closed loop handle gives me somewhere secure to hold it, which I missed before.Umbrellas cost enough without buying something flimsy twice. I'm planning to get another of these to keep at work, because that's usually where I need a spare.
Darius Sandoval
Definitely worth a look.
Managed to lose my old umbrella (seems to happen to everyone!) and finally looked online for a replacement. Found this one and it feels just right - sturdy enough, easy to carry, and no fuss to open. Now I only have to remember where I put it! Definitely worth a look.

Weather can change so quickly between states.
This was for a spring vacation, not for golf, and I was mostly concerned about how it would manage a windy day. Folded up it's a manageable size for traveling. Weather can change so quickly between states. I'm stopping at four stars until we've actually needed it, but it seems well put together.
Joanna Phelps
So far it has been good to use.
The size when opened gives me enough cover. The fabric, frame and all the ribs seem quite firm. It looks good overall. There is some weight in the hand for a compact umbrella, not too much but you can notice it. Depending on the person this may be less important. The centre section seems fine, although how it will last after more use, I cannot say yet. On first opening there was a little smell. Leaving it spread open in an airy place has made most of that go away. So far it has been good to use.
