They've been pleased with them so far.

These were Christmas gifts for my grown-up son and daughter. Both have a walk between public transport and their city offices, so an umbrella they can easily carry matters. They've been pleased with them so far. They fold down neatly and don't take over the bags they use for work.

Looks good, feels good, has lasted well!

For the money I haven't found one that suits me better, opens with a press and the canopy shuts with the same button, then you shorten it by hand. Good coverage without carrying some enormous thick thing around. Looks good, feels good, has lasted well!I haven't actually tried this newest one yet (RATING IS FOR MY PREVIOUS ONE), which I managed to leave behind somewhere... that's umbrellas for you. Wasn't too painful to replace at this price and I wanted the same useful setup again. Small enough folded, proper cover open. Getting into the car is where that quick canopy close really earns its keep. SO MUCH LESS FUMBLING!!!

Probably the nicest looking umbrella I've owned.

Probably the nicest looking umbrella I've owned. There is a little more weight to it than I expected, though it feels solid rather than delicate. I'm taking it on a two week trip and expect it will be useful. Closing the canopy is easy; pushing the shaft back takes a firmer hand. Worth buying if you aren't expecting something feather light.

The loop handle also gives a firm grip, so it feels secure when held.

Buying an umbrella online is not always successful, but this one has made a good impression. I was a little doubtful before opening it... haha. Appearance and color: The blue on the outside looks clean and attractive. From the picture I wondered if it would be too feminine for me, but in person it is a simple design that I am comfortable carrying as a man. Construction: The ribs inside look more substantial than I had expected for something that folds. The loop handle also gives a firm grip, so it feels secure when held. I have not put it through rough weather, but for ordinary rain I am confident in it. Size: Folded up it looks fairly compact, then you open it and the space underneath is quite good. For one grown man it is a practical size. The finishing is tidy considering the price. It should be useful both on wet days and for shade when the sun is out.

It sits securely in my hand ,and I'm pleased with it overall.

A practical umbrella, with flexible ribs that make it feel less likely to end up a twisted mess on a blustery day. It sits securely in my hand ,and I'm pleased with it overall. The loop handle is useful, although I'd have preferred something a little more elegant looking.

He thinks it's worth what he paid.

my coworker never had much luck with umbrellas when it got windy. A few winters on and he's still carrying this one.The ribs have some give rather than feeling rigid, and it's handled his rainy days well. Not the lightest thing to carry, but it feels solid. He thinks it's worth what he paid. I'd happily have one myself except I leave umbrellas behind wherever I stop. Not cheap, but for someone who actually remembers to bring theirs home, I can see the point. He's certainly happy with his.

I help with the button, then she wants to do the walking part herself.

After seeing another mom arrive with all three children carrying their own umbrellas, I decided my daughter should have one too. Sharing mine had turned into me bending over while she tried to take charge of the handle. Now she has her own to hold and is very proud walking into DayCare with it. I help with the button, then she wants to do the walking part herself. Several parents have commented on how cute she looks marching along under it. She's three and not exactly gentle with anything, but this has held up pretty good to her heavy handed ways.

Oh wow, it's a nice looking umbrella.

I chose this umbrella for my son, who's four. Took me a while to settle on one and I'm glad I went with this. Oh wow, it's a nice looking umbrella. The cream white is lovely and he can hold it himself, although I help him push it down after the canopy closes. He loves watching it pop open with the button. Such a neat thing!! It looks even nicer in front of you than in pictures. I'd certainly recommend it if you're helping a little one use an umbrella.

Haven Compact UmbrellaThe umbrella feels well made and has a smart, understated appearance. It is among the better umbrellas I have used, particularly for ordinary wet and blustery days. There is a little more weight to it than I would ideally like when carrying it around. Even so, I consider it good value for someone wanting a practical umbrella without sacrificing its appearance.

Been using this for a couple of months and it's a handy umbrella.

Been using this for a couple of months and it's a handy umbrella. It tends to live on the back seat of my car, though folded up it's still a bit bulkier than I had pictured. Nothing wrong with it, just not something I'd slip into a tiny pocket. It seems sturdy in normal rain, but I couldn't say how it would do in really strong wind. For what I paid, I'm content with it. If you're like me and tend to leave umbrellas behind, at least this doesn't feel like a fortune tied up in one.

Gabriela Armstrong

Handy to carry and straightforward to use.

Handy to carry and straightforward to use. There's a sleeve included, which helps keep it neatly packed in my backpack after it's dried. The handle is a bit different from the long ones I'm used to, so that might not be for everybody. Doesn't bother me and it fits my bag without a struggle. I'd recommend it.

Jeanne Singleton

Fits away once I'm indoors too.

Between buses and walking to work, I spend enough time outside that a rainy day can really mess up my morning. My hair is curly and I wear it natural, so pulling a hood over it isn't exactly my favorite solution either. Having this umbrella with me means I can leave the hood down and still arrive looking like myself, which I love! It's easy to get open when I step out into the rain, and there's a decent amount of room underneath without carrying something huge. I do have to tuck my shoulders in a bit when rain comes from the side, but for my usual commute it's been great. Fits away once I'm indoors too. I'd happily suggest it to anyone doing the same bus and walking routine :)

Norma Hodge

No rainy outing yet!

Pink is a colour I always enjoy, so this was an easy one to like. No rainy outing yet! It's roomy when opened and feels reassuring around the shoulders, though I haven't tested it in wind.Note: I noticed a little powdery dust near the centre on first opening, so I gave that area a quick wipe.

Vincent Oneill

I've had a few curious looks carrying it too.

Didn't expect to be quite so fond of an umbrella, but this has become my favourite. Nicely put together and I've had no trouble with it doing its job. Even a wet walk around Manhattan feels a little less miserable now. I've had a few curious looks carrying it too. I'm thinking of picking up a few more for gifts, that's how much I like mine.

Tara Ortiz

The umbrella has more weight than I expected, but at about 390g it is still comfortable for me to carry. The control button is in a slightly different position from what I am used to. After a few uses it became convenient, so generally I am very satisfied with how this umbrella handles.

Katherine Mathis

Worth the money to me, it feels like a well made piece of gear.

Worth the money to me, it feels like a well made piece of gear. I've not had it out in anything approaching a gale, so can't comment on that, but it feels firmer than the umbrellas I've owned before. The quality was what I was after rather than just the cheapest option. Having it in my hands, I'm glad I went for this one.

Faith Hansen

The handle finish is nothing especially fancy but does the job.

Opened up, this umbrella gives a decent amount of cover, while folded it is a much easier thing to carry than a long umbrella. I had imagined it being a little wider across, but it is quite right for one person. The Cream White looks smart without being too showy. It is comfortable enough to hold on a walk, though I tend to keep a proper grip rather than letting it hang from my fingers. The button mechanism seems sturdy and the oval loop handle is firmly attached. It came neatly packed. I would recommend it to somebody wanting a compact umbrella with a handle you can actually get hold of. The handle finish is nothing especially fancy but does the job. There is a sleeve to put it into when it is folded away. This is thin enough to tuck into a pocket while the umbrella is being used, which is preferable to carrying a loose cover about. If I were changing anything I would give the handle a little more texture. My hand slides about slightly if it is wet, not so much that I cannot hold it, just something I noticed. A bit more grip would make that part nicer. But, to be fair, this is an umbrella for carrying about and keeping the rain off, not something I need to hold for hours. Overall it does what I wanted and looks quite presentable while doing it.

Javier Manning

We have been happy with how it handles normal rain and wind.

My wife was tired of umbrellas that didn't last and asked for something better made. This one has the solid feel she wanted. Of course it takes more bag space than the really tiny folding ones, but she would rather have that than something flimsy. We have been happy with how it handles normal rain and wind. Seems a sensible purchase to me.

Claire Clements

The amount of cover is what I noticed first.

The amount of cover is what I noticed first. Some folding umbrellas hardly give you room underneath, but this one opens out to a useful size without being a nuisance when it's put away. And the frame feels substantial. There are plenty of flexible ribs, so it doesn't have that brittle feeling where everything is rigid until a gust comes along. I've used it on breezy wet days and it has behaved well. I'm not saying I'd take it into a storm, just that it feels dependable for everyday use. My previous one was stolen, so I replaced it with pink; and I like the colour. It comes with a sleeve, which is nice for keeping it together when it's packed away. The oval loop handle is comfortable to hold too. I like being able to fold it down and carry it without having a huge umbrella sticking out beside me. There are several colours to choose from, but I'm happy with the pink and would pick it again.

Tricia Ingram

The button opening saves a bit of fumbling too.

I've had 2 now, after forgetting the first on a train, and both have worked perfectly. The coverage is good for a folding umbrella and the shaft and handle feel properly sturdy. The button opening saves a bit of fumbling too. I'd rather spend a little extra on one that feels this well made.

Crystal Washington

The oval handle is the part I'm less taken with.

Initial thoughts: The push-button opening and closing of the canopy is rather satisfying. You do still have to shorten the shaft yourself and fasten the wrap once it's folded. (I suppose expecting it to tidy itself away as well is asking a bit much.) The fabric seems light without feeling insubstantial, and the whole umbrella is convenient to carry once packed up.The oval handle is the part I'm less taken with. It does its job, but I prefer the feel of a traditional wooden grip, especially when I'm holding an umbrella for a while. That's a preference rather than a concern about it lasting. I bought this to replace a larger umbrella I lost, and on balance the easier carrying is worth that compromise. It isn't quite as elegant as a full length umbrella, but I don't always want to have one of those with me. A practical mix of convenience and decent construction for what I paid.

Bonnie Barker

Small folding ones I've owned have felt rather flimsy in a breeze.

The pink colour was what first caught my eye, and I'm glad the umbrella itself has turned out to be more than just nice to look at. Small folding ones I've owned have felt rather flimsy in a breeze. This feels much more substantial and has stayed in shape when I've needed it. Folded up, it's still convenient to take along. Pressing a button to open it or draw the canopy shut is satisfying. My reservation is the final push to shorten the shaft by hand. That takes a fair shove. Manageable, certainly, but not quite as effortless as I'd hoped.

Eddie Leonard

I bought this on the strength of it being described as compact.

I bought this on the strength of it being described as compact. My idea of compact is something that sits in a bag without needing much thought, and the folded umbrella was bigger than I had pictured. Not enormous, just not what I wanted... There is a difference. For a compact with a useful sized canopy, I understand there has to be some compromise, but that doesn't mean everyone wants the same size. I kept thinking it ought to take up less room than it did.I was looking for something I could tuck away and forget about, rather than arrange the bag around it. That was the irritation, not any problem with the mechanism or the umbrella keeping me dry. It opens promptly, the button collapses the canopy, and resetting the telescoping part by hand is straightforward. In the end, putting it in a different position in my bag solved the fitting issue. It goes in comfortably now, and the umbrella has otherwise been satisfactory. So there is nothing actually wrong with it. I still would have preferred smaller, but the practical problem is sorted.

Jay Lester

Canopy fabric seems good.

Canopy fabric seems good. The automatic opening operates smoothly, and another press of the button gathers the canopy as it should. My only reservation is the extra step afterwards: the telescoping section still has to be pressed down manually. So it is not an entirely one-handed process from open to fully packed away (which would be convenient). Nothing is wrong with it, just something to bear in mind if that matters to you.

Tara Pham

I prefer that to a plain straight grip.

The black version looked like good value for what I needed, and I am satisfied with the choice. It seems carefully put together and, provided I look after it, I would expect a decent amount of use from it. The sleeve is useful, and the closed oval loop makes carrying and hanging it up straightforward. I prefer that to a plain straight grip. My only small criticism is that getting the fabric neatly gathered before sliding it into the sleeve takes a little patience. Not a big issue, just something I notice when putting it away. This one lives in the car and takes up very little space across the back of my hatch.

Toni Gamble

People have said some lovely things about it!

Slightly embarrassing confession, I chose this for ME, not for a child. I just liked the look of it and didn't feel the need to find something more serious. It gives me enough cover without being a huge thing to carry, and nobody has suggested it looks childish. I'd recommend it to any grown woman who still likes a pretty umbrella. People have said some lovely things about it!

Sheila Huerta

One of the better compact umbrellas I've used.

One of the better compact umbrellas I've used. There is plenty of coverage for me, and it has stayed steady through a couple of wet, blustery days. Folded down it goes into my sling bag without a struggle. A very useful size to keep between the office and car.

Howard Macias

Anyway, she is happy and I'm happy with what I bought.

I bought this as a birthday surprise for my girlfriend. She loves it. The umbrella looks smart, though i can't pretend to be some great judge of umbrellas, i've not held that many. It arrived in good shape and i now have a happier girlfriend. Not convinced it would frighten off zombies though... apparently being dry is its main contribution there. So there is that. Anyway, she is happy and I'm happy with what I bought.

I also find the oval handle convenient to hold.

Rain is not an everyday event in the southwestern desert, but it can arrive in a hurry. I wanted an umbrella I could keep nearby for those sudden downpours, and this seems a good choice. The open canopy is about 105 cm across. It is a practical size for one person, although I might have chosen something larger if I had compared them in a shop. I would not expect it to shelter several people. The cream white is an attractive colour, and I am pleased with how it looks in person. It folds down to a manageable size and the supplied sleeve helps keep it neatly packed when not needed. I also find the oval handle convenient to hold. Pressing the button opens it quickly; another press closes the canopy, after which the shaft is pushed down by hand. My experience is limited to one rainstorm so far, so I cannot make any long term claims. It did what I needed on that occasion, and I am glad I spent a little more for something that feels solid.

A good little find for the money!

This started as a gift for a friend with a dachshund. Once I saw it I wanted one for myselfand picked up another for a fellow dog lover. Enough cover for an ordinary shower without having a huge umbrella to carry around. Fits in my purse too. A good little find for the money!

Kerry Ritter

Feels well put together and worth what I paid.

Love how much umbrella you get from something that folds down so small. The button opens it up, press again to fold the canopy, then slide the stem down by hand. Feels well put together and worth what I paid. Plenty of cover when it's open too. No hesitation...I'd recommend it!

Gail Moran

A nice one to take along.

I have a bit of an umbrella habit and always notice ones that look nice. This has a simple look rather than anything fussy, so my sons don't object to borrowing it, which makes a change. The fabric feels substantial and the finish is good for what I paid. There is a sleeve, although I doubt I'll roll it tightly enough to slide back in. (I never seem to manage that with umbrellas.) The button action worked nicely on its first outing, but that's all I've used it so far. Can't judge how it'll last yet. A nice one to take along.

Jody Young

I stay out longer without needing a hat just to shade my face.

Living in the desert, I notice any extra shade, and this has been a useful change from my old rain umbrella. Being underneath it makes walks more comfortable and I can angle it to give the dogs some shade as well. I stay out longer without needing a hat just to shade my face. The price seems fair for how much I use it. Around here a bit of portable shade feels like a necessity, not a luxury.

Dominique Ortiz

The automatic opening is particularly handy.

This replaces a folding umbrella that we left behind somewhere. It's short when packed away, although the bundle is a little fatter than the compact ones we've owned. The flexible ribs seem well designed for breezy weather, and the canopy still gives useful rain coverage. The automatic opening is particularly handy. Several times I've opened the driver's door and put it up one-handed while still sitting inside the car. Closing the canopy with the button is handy as well. Coming back in a downpour, I reverse the process, then push the shaft back down by hand.

Luis Mitchell

Quite a bit of cover once it's opened!

Quite a bit of cover once it's opened! For something that folds up, it gives me good shelter without feeling bulky to hold. The opening button is quick--I leave some space around me before pressing it. Putting it away takes another press to close the canopy, then a firm push to shorten the shaft. Not difficult once you've done it. We've used it for shade too, and the children have even propped it on the grass beside their backyard picnic. (Not quite a beach setup, but they liked it!)The frame seems strong and I'm hoping to have it around for years.

Lawrence Mckay

Still looks really good though.

Had this for ages now and I'm honestly surprised I haven't lost it before wearing it out. It doesn't get used every day, maybe once a month when the rain catches us, so I'm NOT claiming it lives a hard life. Still looks really good though. The ribs are all sitting neatly and the button still does what it should, which is about all I ask from an umbrella. It's not a giant shelter for the whole preschool, but I can have a child tuck in close beside me and we stay reasonably dry :D The kids still find standing under an umbrella in the rain far more exciting than I do. For me the best bit is being able to fold it up afterwards instead of carrying a long wet stick about. A+++ from me :) very glad I got it!

Angie Wallace

I haven't put it away with the costume either.

I ordered this to go with my Halloween costume, and I spent a while deciding whether I really wanted to pay that much for something that was mainly going to be a prop. In the end I decided a plain black umbrella would pull the whole outfit together, and I'm glad I did. Once I was dressed up, people understood the character straight away and quite a few commented on how well the umbrella finished it off. It's funny how one detail can make that much difference. I haven't put it away with the costume either. It sits with our other umbrellas now and looks perfectly nice there, ready to be used for actual rain. The oval handle is comfortable and the whole thing feels more solid than a costume accessory usually does. I wanted it for one evening but ended up with something useful afterwards as well. I'd recommend it if you want a simple black umbrella that can do both jobs.

Damon Pacheco

I've been comfortable using it in rain and blustery weather.

Back for another after leaving my first one on the train. That was annoying because it was such a good umbrella! This one feels just as solid and gives decent cover over my head and shoulders. I've been comfortable using it in rain and blustery weather. Can't see myself wanting a different sort now.

Kyle Reynolds

My wife uses this on her morning walks now.

My wife uses this on her morning walks now. She wasn't keen to begin with, said it felt heavier than her old folding one. After a few outings she came round to the shade it gives and how steady it feels. It's become her regular umbrella, and she says the finish is very good.

Melanie Padilla

My son is thrilled with this umbrella.

My son is thrilled with this umbrella. Folded up it is manageable to carry, but opened out it gives him a good amount of cover. He has figured out the button for opening and folding the canopy; the stem still needs pushing in. The sleeve is a nice touch for putting it away once dry. A useful umbrella that he actually wants to take along. Recommended!

Richard Glenn

I'm not sure why people find it difficult.

I'm not sure why people find it difficult. A friend of mine has one and is very fond of it. Finding the button is really all there is to opening it. Getting the folds neat again takes a little patience, but she doesn't mind that. I tend to go for a plain handle myself, though the oval loop suits her and she has had people comment on the unusual shape.

Collin Cummings

It went from the table to bedtime and then outdoors, rain or not.

We gave this to our 3 1/2 year old granddaughter at Christmas and she hardly put it down. It went from the table to bedtime and then outdoors, rain or not. She likes pressing the button with us there to help...no pinched fingers in our use. Watching her enjoy such a simple present has made it worth every penny.

Latasha Morton

I'd rather spend once than keep replacing the same disappointment

A Proper Umbrella Worth Paying For, rather than another cheap one that ends up in the bin. Once you've had enough of the throwaway rubbish you start noticing how much nicer a solid umbrella feels. I'd rather spend once than keep replacing the same disappointment

Emily Mclaughlin

Pressing the button brings the canopy in neatly too.

I think alot of the low ratings make this sound less useful than it actually is. All I can judge is the one we have, and that has been a very good umbrella. It feels solid in a breeze without being an enormous thing to carry around. My wife can put it in her handbag, which is why we wanted a folding one. Pressing the button brings the canopy in neatly too. For the money I think most people would be quite satisfied.

Morgan Coffey

I'd certainly recommend it...

It may be a little unusual to spend this many words on an umbrella, but my wife has been pleased enough with hers that I wanted to say something. She carries one on sunny days as well as wet ones, so how it looks matters almost as much as how it works. I was after a simple beige umbrella, smart without being showy, with enough canopy to give her proper protection from rain. It also needed to feel well constructed without being a chore to carry. This meets those requirements nicely. The frame feels substantial, the button operation is straightforward, and the closed oval loop handle is useful for clipping it to her bag when she wants her hands free.I work on high-end European cars for a living, so I tend to notice how things are put together. I'm not suggesting an umbrella is complicated machinery, but the fit and operation here give a good impression for the money. I'd certainly recommend it...PS: My wife also mentioned that a few people at work had admired it, which tells me the appearance passed her test too.

Jody Perez

My medication means I try not to get too much direct sun.

I use this for some shade when I'm taking a break from cutting the grass on sunny summer days. My medication means I try not to get too much direct sun. Having an umbrella handy makes that easier, and this one is comfortable to hold. It's a practical thing to keep around when I'm working outside in the heat.

Neil Sherman

The oval handle takes a little getting used to in her small hand.

The build feels much like the other everyday umbrellas we've had, nothing fancy but perfectly decent. My 3 year old can be rather rough with things, so I'll be keeping an eye on her with this one.The oval handle takes a little getting used to in her small hand. BUT she's delighted with her umbrella, which counts for a lot!

Guy Horn

Carrying some shade has made that much easier for me.

In Florida the heat is one thing, the humidity makes it another altogether. Standing out in the sun can really wear you down. Carrying some shade has made that much easier for me. It may not sound like much when you are reading about an umbrella, but in August here you soon appreciate getting the direct sun off your head and shoulders. That is the difference I notice, rather than just thinking of it as something for rain. It has lived up to what I wanted, and the actual comfort is worth more than a list of features. The frame feels properly put together and reassuringly solid. Look after it rather than abuse it, and I expect a good few years from it.

Heather Mayer

We're happy with the choice.

Wanted more cover while waiting for the bus and when sightseeing on wet days. This feels like a decent quality umbrella and has handled the showers we've taken it out in. We're happy with the choice. It stays in the back of the car now, ready for whenever we need to grab it.

Marie Gonzales

The original is still in great shape.

I've used one of these for about two years and bought another to have around the house. The original is still in great shape. No tears, and the button works reliably. It closes the canopy automatically; pushing the shaft down afterwards is done by hand. The ribs have some give to them rather than being completely rigid, which feels different if you're used to a stiff umbrella. Packing it away can still be a two hand job, especially if you're already carrying something. That's my only real reservation. I'd rather put up with that small inconvenience than have something flimsy that needs replacing all the time.
