Living somewhere that gets plenty of wet weather, I held off commenting until I'd carried this for around six months. It's earned its place in my bag! My one qualification is really about what I expect from a compact umbrella. This is the one I take for everyday showers, not something I would choose for spending hours outside in a downpour. The canopy fabric has a soft feel, and I prefer not to treat a small umbrella as an all-weather shelter. In steady, ordinary rain I've been comfortable underneath it. When the forecast is undecided or there's just a little drizzle, taking it along isn't a nuisance. For a thoroughly soaking afternoon I'd rather have a bigger umbrella with more coverage.
I chose Gray, and it's a nice, quiet colour without looking dreary. Among the usual dark umbrellas it has a slightly lighter appearance, which I like. There's also that odd business of seeing your face under an umbrella and wondering why you suddenly look a peculiar colour (not always a flattering surprise!). With the black underneath, I don't get that coloured glow. Not a deciding factor, but something I notice.
The button action has been particularly useful on trains and buses. I can get the canopy up quickly after stepping off, or bring it together before boarding, without wrestling with wet fabric near other passengers. You still push the telescoping sections together afterwards; the button doesn't do that part. The size strikes a good balance, too. Some tiny umbrellas leave me wondering whether they're meant to shelter anything beyond the top of my head!
The oval loop is comfortable to hold and, importantly to me, belongs to the umbrella rather than its cover. I like having something definite to hold onto instead of a tiny stub of a handle. The sleeve is straightforward to use once everything is neatly wrapped, so putting it away isn't a whole separate job. A useful everyday umbrella, and one I'm glad I've kept carrying.

i ordered the same umbrella again (yes!
After leaving my first one on a commuter train I didn't spend long deciding what to replace it with. i ordered the same umbrella again (yes!). The blue is lovely and easy to pick out amongst everyone else's dark umbrellas. It's nicely put together too, which is why I was so annoyed with myself for losing it.

Excellent value, with enough canopy to cover one person comfortably.
Excellent value, with enough canopy to cover one person comfortably. The framework feels more substantial than others I've looked at for similar money, without making the umbrella awkward to use. It gives the impression of being thoughtfully built. With sensible handling, I would expect to get several seasons out of it.

The button is straightforward to use.
It seems good quality, although I would not call it a very lightweight umbrella. If keeping weight down is the main thing, it may not be the right choice. The box had a little damage when it arrived, but the umbrella inside was in perfect condition. The included sleeve is quite a close fit, so I have to straighten the folds before putting it away. It fits once I take that extra moment, and I am happy with it overall.
The button is straightforward to use.

I think it makes a lovely present.
Picked this as a Mother's Day present...Not for my own mom, for her mother-in-law. So cute! The pink is lovely! If I hadnt just bought myself an umbrella a few weeks earlier I would have been tempted to keep this and order another. Maybe collecting umbrellas is going to be my thing...ha! Anyway, one gift sorted well before the day, which was a relief. I think it makes a lovely present.

Feels really substantial.
Feels really substantial. The cheaper umbrella's I carried in Atlanta were enough there, but after moving to Sacramento I wanted something that felt more dependable in the wind. This one seems much better put together. It's good to hold and has been steady so far, though we haven't had a major storm since I got it...there was one here before with trees coming down and all that, so I can't claim this has faced anything like that yet. I'll add more after some properly windy weather, for anyone interested in how it gets on....

It gives me the cover I need and folds down neatly afterwards.
I've owned a fair few umbrellas over the years, and for what I need this one has been very good. I wouldn't treat a compact umbrella as something to stand under for ages in a downpour. Mine is mostly for the short walk between home and the subway, a block or two at a time. It gives me the cover I need and folds down neatly afterwards. I can carry it every day without feeling I have packed some great long umbrella.

Love the shape of this umbrella!
Love the shape of this umbrella! Looks different and quite stylish. It gives me enough cover for my bag too, unless the rain is coming sideways. The only fiddly part is wrapping it neatly afterwards; there's a fair bit of fabric to gather before I can slide it into the sleeve...

It folds up, although it isn't small enough for my little purse.
Most sunscreens irritate my face, so having something to hold over it is a practical solution for me. This umbrella gives me a patch of shade without having to put anything on my skin. Depending on where the sun is, I can cover my shoulders too, but I still use sunscreen on the bits that stick out. It folds up, although it isn't small enough for my little purse. The handle has a closed oval loop rather than a hook, which is handy for hanging it up when I need both hands. It's a manageable size to hold, not so tiny that I can't get a comfortable grip. The pink outside is cheerful, and I like the contrast with the black underneath. I tend to keep it close rather than leave it sitting somewhere, because I would hate to lose it. Of course, you do have to keep a hand occupied to have the shade where you want it.This isn't my answer for gardening or anything messy. My wide hat still gets that job.

A good choice if you want decent coverage from a folding umbrella.
Listed at roughly 105cm when open. I haven't got a tape measure out, but there's enough cover for me. It feels reassuringly solid, too. My outings with it have only involved light rain so far, so that's all I can comment on. A good choice if you want decent coverage from a folding umbrella.
Bradley Fitzgerald
Originally bought it years back for travelling.
Originally bought it years back for travelling. It goes in my day bag and will even fit in my raincoat pocket, though those pockets are unusually deep. It's ended up being the umbrella I reach for all the time, not just on trips, and it's still serving me well.
Wesley Faulkner
My reservation is the coverage.
I've always liked folding umbrellas - the ones I've kept have usually disappeared before they wore out! This one seems solid too, and the button is a great convenience when getting out in rain. It fits my bag, although not every little bag I've got. My reservation is the coverage. The roughly 105cm spread sounds generous, but it's still very much one person's umbrella; I like more overhang beyond my shoulders. So it's useful for carrying about, just not the size I'd reach for when I want lots of shelter. And the idea of men's versus women's umbrellas still seems odd to me.
Penny Cantrell
Ordered this after losing my previous umbrella.
Ordered this after losing my previous umbrella. It gives me a comfortable amount of cover on the walk to the subway in the morning without being awkward to carry. So far it has stayed steady when the wind picks up. I do sometimes find myself gripping a little higher on the stem instead of right at the loop handle.
Yolanda Hawkins
LOVE the umbrella and would recommend it!
We received this as a present and it's been a lovely one. My child loves taking it out, and I'm impressed with how sturdy it seems. Customer service were really nice to deal with too...that counts for a lot! LOVE the umbrella and would recommend it! A GREAT gift!

Outside, it does a good job keeping the rain off too.
My daughter is nearly 3 and we've had this umbrella around six months. She really enjoys it, even when we aren't going anywhere in the rain. It has been part of her little forts indoors and has stood in as a beach umbrella when she's pretending. Outside, it does a good job keeping the rain off too. I hold it with her if there's wind because she's still very small for her age (closer to a 2 year old in size) and it's a lot for her to manage herself. It's been a good purchase.
Blake Villa
This has become my everyday shade umbrella.
This has become my everyday shade umbrella. My dermatologist told me to be more careful in the sun after having several spots removed. I teach in Texas, so taking the students outside means standing in the heat regularly. This gives me a patch of shade without carrying a huge umbrella. I call it my SHADE TO GO. Positives: noticeably less glare underneath, quick button opening, canopy closes with the button too, folds down for carrying, feels well made. Negatives: needs a firm hand if a breeze catches it. I'd recommend it for anyone wanting portable shade and a little more comfort outside.

Some people barely notice rain.
Some people barely notice rain. They pull their coat up a bit and carry on, apparently not bothered about arriving with wet shoulders. Then there are those of us who decide we need an umbrella only once we're already getting soaked, and grab whatever tiny thing is nearest. I've never found that a very satisfying arrangement. People in the Pacific Northwest seem to take rain rather more seriously, and watching them made me think I should too. That was the thinking behind choosing this one. I wanted proper cover without having a great long umbrella to cart around. It has kept me dry, feels steady in the breezes I've met, and goes back into my bag without a big performance. There's room for another person if we stand close, which is useful. I don't need an umbrella to be exciting. I need to put it up, walk where I'm going, and not spend the whole trip worrying about it. This one has managed that nicely.

I love this thing, really do.
I love this thing, really do. The oval handle is much nicer for me to hang on to than the tiny straight handles I always seem to end up with. I get nervous juggling an umbrella when I'm wearing gloves and trying not to drop everything. Not having to fiddle around to get the canopy open is a big help, and pressing a button to gather it in is handy too. You still need to compress the shaft afterwards, but I can do that once I'm inside. Good coverage for just me and not a huge thing to carry around folded.I haven't had proper gusty weather to judge that side of it yet, so won't pretend I know. My only real hesitation was the price. After using it, though, I'm glad I spent the money. My friends have admired it as well.

Hard to beat this for the money.
Hard to beat this for the money. I can operate it without trapping my fingers, which is a welcome change from my old umbrella. It looks fairly straightforward rather than full of clever extras, but it's already coped with a couple of proper thunderstorms. That's what I wanted it for.

Was meant to be my wife's valentines present but I handed it over early I just couldn't keep it put away. She loves it and it looks very well made a good solid feel to it. She's already had it out in heavy rain and came back dry so I think it was money very well spent.

I gave two of these as Christmas presents to my daughter and daughter-in-law, both of whom use them for work. They have each mentioned how simple the button is to use, and the handle has attracted some nice comments. I liked giving something useful that also had a distinctive appearance. The fabric and overall finish look very good (they have been using them about three months). I would certainly recommend them, with longer term durability still something to find out.

Those are good, but they are also a lot to lug about.
For years I used automatic folding umbrellas, then started carrying bigger stick umbrellas because I wanted more coverage and something that felt sturdier in the rain. Those are good, but they are also a lot to lug about. I saw this one at a decent price and decided to try a smaller option again. It gives a useful amount of cover without being another enormous thing to carry. It isn't a stick umbrella, obviously, but it fills that gap nicely and I like having the choice. Recommended.

The others never seemed much good.
We had a florist shop and he did the deliveries, so a decent umbrella was important. The others never seemed much good. This one has stayed in use for years. We retired a couple of years ago but he still takes it out regularly. The ribs have some give and it has kept its shape well.

This has become the umbrella I reach for most.
This has become the umbrella I reach for most. I wanted to get away from carrying something so tiny that keeping my shoulders dry was a struggle. There is a larger umbrella in the car as well, but I find myself picking up this folding one much more often. The coverage is enough for my normal use and I appreciate being able to put it away without finding space for a long umbrella. It isn't the absolute smallest folded umbrella I've handled, so it does take a bit of room in a bag. For me that is a reasonable trade for the more substantial feel. I even bring it from the car into the house now instead of leaving it there just for emergencies.I haven't tested it in really rough winds and can't offer an opinion on that. That wasn't the reason I wanted it, I just wanted a useful umbrella for regular rain.
Jason Dyer
Overall a decent umbrella if you don't expect enormous coverage.
A useful size for one person, though I had pictured something closer to the oversized umbrellas used for golf. This is much handier to pack away instead. The button opens it and pulls the canopy closed It needed a firmer push to shorten the pole on the first go, but that part feels smoother now. The supplied sleeve is useful for keeping it together in a bag. Overall a decent umbrella if you don't expect enormous coverage.
Evelyn Glenn
For the price I'm very pleased.
I am one of those people who keeps using an ugly a$$ umbrella as long as it still works, then eventually it gets demoted to the one that lives in the car. This time I wanted something nicer looking with button opening and closing, and came across this one. (Once you've had a button to put the canopy up AND down, doing it all yourself isn't very appealing). It only arrived yesterday, so there's been no rainy outing yet, but the weight of it and how easily it opens and closes give me a good feeling about the quality. My first umbrella with that feature was more expensive. Opened out it's about 105cm across, which gives more shelter than my other folding ones, and it really is lovely to look at. Not quite the tiny sort you can drop into any little space in a bag, although folded it is shorter than a few I've owned. I'd rather have the extra coverage anyway. For the price I'm very pleased. I'm finished with carrying drab old umbrellas around. Now I'm actually hoping for some rain! Perhaps London is the answer.

These were thank you presents for friends who are nurses and were there for us while my husband was seriously ill with oral cancer. They helped so much at home as well as being longtime friends, and I wanted to give them something they could actually use. An umbrella seemed a nice way for them to think of him on an ordinary rainy day. The gray was a bit softer than it looked in the picture, not quite the shade I expected, but still nice and perfectly fine for the gifts.

We LOVE having this in the car.
We LOVE having this in the car. There is a good amount of cover and the closing button is the best part. Keep it over you while getting seated, press the button to fold the canopy, then pull it inside and shorten the shaft by hand before putting it by your feet. SO handy. My dad tried the one I'd given my mom and immediately wanted his own for Christmas. My sister has one from me as well. Glad I could find it online rather than going round the shops.

A sensible purchase that I am determined to hang onto!
My search was for something practical - but not dull - and this suits me well. There is enough cover to feel sheltered without carrying an enormous umbrella around. The green is easy to spot among my things, which matters because I have a habit of leaving umbrellas behind. The oval loop gives me a firm grip and the whole thing feels well put together. Once folded it goes neatly into its sleeve, rather than sprawling in my bag. A sensible purchase that I am determined to hang onto!
Jeffrey May
Small enough to carry, solid when opened and keeps her dry.
I owed someone an umbrella after losing the one she let me borrow. She is a businesswoman with very definite opinions and taxi drivers have heard plenty of them, so praise from her counts for something. Apparently this one is excellent.Small enough to carry, solid when opened and keeps her dry.My debt has been settled.

Pros:Solid frame, feels steady in wind.
Pros:Solid frame, feels steady in wind.Good coverage for rain and a useful patch of shade.Handle feels secure to hold. The button is convenient.
Cons:That closed oval handle isn't like a hook you can just rest over your forearm.A little heavier than the tiny folding umbrellas.
Overall, the good points easily win for me. Feels worth the money and I'm glad to have it.

This has been great for my walk through downtown to the office!
This has been great for my walk through downtown to the office! There is enough room under it to keep me and the bag I carry out of the rain. I also appreciate having a sleeve to put it away in rather than a loose umbrella in my bag. Once I get to work I leave it out to dry, then fold it up for later. It is handy having something that doesn't take over the whole bag when I am not using it.

What a beautiful umbrella!!!
What a beautiful umbrella!!! I've ordered a few different umbrellas, and this one really made me smile! The pink looks gorgeous in person. I wasn't expecting to get this excited about something so ordinary!!! It feels well put together, and there's a generous amount of cover once it's open. Underneath it is black, which I actually quite like. If I could change anything I'd make the handle a little shorter so the folded umbrella was tidier to pack. That's only a small wish though. Hoping for plenty of use out of it. Absolutely delighted with this find!!!

This is the weightiest folding umbrella I've come across.
This is the weightiest folding umbrella I've come across. Probably the sturdy ribs and the mechanism that lets the button close the canopy as well as open it. (Never had a closing button on an umbrella before - rather neat!) There's a generous amount of room underneath when it's open, which isn't something I've always found with folding umbrellas. For a commuter who needs to carry an umbrella in a briefcase or bag every day, I wouldn't recommend it because of the weight.
Jim Jackson
Well made and easy to spot when it's up.
Well made and easy to spot when it's up. We have a dog and the coverage is handy when he's walking close beside me. A talking point too, because.. why should an umbrella be boring?! We gave one to a relative as well and they LOVE theirs.. . So for me: sturdy, comfortable to carry, room to keep the rain off without feeling flimsy, and a handle that's pleasant to hold while managing a lead.

It works for rain and is handy for a bit of shade too.
Light enough for my bag and not awkward to take along. It works for rain and is handy for a bit of shade too. I thought the price was fair for what you get. The opening button needs a fairly firm press, but once I got used to that it was straightforward. Overall a useful umbrella and good value.

- The handle sits comfortably in my palm.
Arrived today so I've only had a chance to mess about with it indoors. Rain and possibly sleet are forecast for tomorrow, I'll add more after that. A few first impressions for now.- Outer packaging looked rather battered, nothing on the umbrella itself was marked though.- There was a sleeve included which it slides back into without too much fuss.- The handle sits comfortably in my palm. I'm an average size man, quite tall though, and the closed loop gives me enough room to hold it properly.- A press of the button puts it up, another press brings the canopy in. You still push the telescoping section together yourself afterwards. Took me a couple of goes to get familiar with that.- Folded length is reasonable, not something I'd struggle to carry about.- Spread out it looks generous for one person, could probably squeeze somebody alongside me if I was feeling charitable.- I waved it about quite hard while open to see how much give there was. The ribs flexed and returned to shape with nothing looking bent afterwards. Not exactly a proper outdoor test but encouraging. Overall it seems sturdy and the parts fit together nicely. Very pleased with it on this first look, just need the weather now to try it properly.

Mine stays in my backpack pretty much every day.
Mine stays in my backpack pretty much every day. Living in Chicago and having spent a lot of time travelling for work, I stopped trusting a promising sky quite a while ago. Downtown is a fairly good test of an umbrella, with air rushing between the buildings and changing direction just as you turn a corner. This one has been useful in those conditions. There is still a point where I put it away, though (when the rain is coming sideways and then back towards you, there isn't much an umbrella can do). I judge it on the weather where carrying one actually helps, not on whether it makes a storm disappear.
The opening and closing took a little getting used to, mostly because closing with the button doesn't mean the whole thing retracts. It folds the canopy; I then press the telescoping section together myself. Once I understood that, it was straightforward. Nothing I would mark it down for, just worth knowing before you stand there expecting the handle to come up on its own!
What finally made me replace my previous everyday umbrella was the fabric getting thin from being pulled out of a packed bag so often. It hadn't developed a hole, but it was looking tired. That experience makes me pay attention to how this one folds and goes back into the backpack, rather than just how impressive it looks when first opened. So far it has suited that routine well.
I also keep a larger umbrella, and there's certainly a difference in coverage and the general feel of carrying it. But I don't want that bigger one with me all day, especially when I may never need it. For an umbrella that has to earn its space in a bag, this is a very satisfactory balance of useful coverage, portability and solid construction.
Valerie Graves
Good purchase overall.
Ive taken these to a few weddings and bridal showers now and have been happy each time. Handy for getting between places in the rain, and they look nice enough for those sorts of occasions. They feel well put together and I haven't had any leaks yet. Good purchase overall.

This one has been great so far.
I'm in Portland, Oregon, where an umbrella gets plenty of use in the rain. This one has been great so far. It feels solid, sheds the water nicely and doesn't take any fuss to open or close. The one thing I'd change is its folded size; it's a bit longer than I'd like and doesn't pack down as small as the umbrella I had before.

Much cuter in person than I thought it would be.
Much cuter in person than I thought it would be. My three year old wants to carry it herself and loves pressing the button while I help hold it. Her teachers liked it too and have mentioned it to other parents. She gets so proud of having her own umbrella and "doing it herself".

Hard to find much to complain about here.
Hard to find much to complain about here. It has a more expensive feel than the price suggests and keeps the rain off nicely. A little extra width would suit me, but the size was clearly given, so I can't blame the umbrella for that. I'd still say it's money well spent.
Darryl Ward
There are two of these in our house, both over a year old now.
There are two of these in our house, both over a year old now. I was fed up with flimsy umbrellas that couldn't cope with a bit of wind, or felt rough every time you opened them... Neither of these has given us trouble. Considering my 10 and 5 year olds don't exactly treat them gently, that says quite a lot :)
Brady Torres
She's 3 1/2 and couldn't wait for me to open it.
Five stars because my grand daughter was so excited to have an umbrella of her own. She's 3 1/2 and couldn't wait for me to open it. we've had plenty of wet days lately so it'll be handy when we go out together. Both grand daughters like turning their umbrella's round, so I stay nearby and help with that.the oval handle gives her something she can get her hand around, and folded up it's easy for me to carry afterwards.

Rain seems to divide people into camps.
Rain seems to divide people into camps. There are the ones who trust a coat and don't mind arriving with damp shoulders.I've never understood that. Then there are the emergency umbrella buyers, grabbing the smallest thing in a shop and hoping for the best. People from the Pacific Northwest always seem better prepared. They have something substantial and just carry on, while everybody else is struggling. Watching that sort of confidence is what made me want a sensible umbrella of my own. I don't need anything fancy, just cover that stays where it belongs. This one has coped with windy rain, folds down to go in my bag and hasn't given me anything to fuss over. That's really all I want from it. No dragging a long umbrella around when the rain stops, and no wondering whether I'll need to replace it before winter is over.It gives me plenty of room, with space for another person if we tuck in together.
Courtney Booth
An umbrella is an umbrella.
Not a lot to write, really. An umbrella is an umbrella. It keeps the rain off and gives me some shade in summer, which is what I want. A little more substantial folded than the tiny ones, but that's fine. Feels like a sensible trade for a frame that doesn't feel flimsy the moment a breeze comes along.
Helen Alvarado
It seems good quality to me.
It looks so pretty in pink, and opens out to a decent size. This was just the sort of umbrella I wanted. There been plenty of rain lately so I've had lots of chances to use it. It seems good quality to me. Nothing worse than a flimsy umbrella making life harder, particularly when you are getting into or out of the car. This one is straightforward and the button makes dealing with the canopy easy. That's really all I need it to do.

We were lucky and the couple got sunshine instead!
These were waiting IN CASE it rained for the pictures at my daughter's wedding. We were lucky and the couple got sunshine instead! I liked how smart the umbrellas looked, not fussy or distracting, which mattered for photos. I'd suggest them to anyone planning for the same possibility, though I can't report on a wet wedding because ours stayed dry. Having them ready was reassuring, even if in the end we didn't need to open them outside.
Michele Armstrong
It could quite happily be on display in her room too.
Prettier in person than I was expecting, with a lovely finish for the price. My daughter plans to carry it with a costume and is already asking to use it for shade once that's over. It could quite happily be on display in her room too. I think it's excellent value for something she'll use as well as enjoy looking at.
