For what I paid, that's a good result.

A couple of months in and this umbrella hasn't given me any trouble. For what I paid, that's a good result. I don't think I'll be looking for a replacement for a while, but I'd choose this one again if I needed to. The beige is lovely too, light and cheerful without being too much. Makes the soggy autumn days feel a little less gloomy somehow.

I enjoy using this around the city.

I enjoy using this around the city. It gives me a little breathing room on busy pavements, instead of having other people's umbrellas brushing right into me. A breeze can still get underneath it, so I have to pay attention to how I hold it. Mine also needed a wipe before its first outing because there was some powdery dust on the fabric, which was an annoying extra job. Once cleaned up, though, it looked fine. The coverage is good for me and the bags I tend to have with me, including my yoga bag. For the price, I'm pleased overall.

It feels solid in the hand.

I spent some time comparing umbrellas because I wanted decent coverage without having to pull my shoulders in every time it rained. This one gives me enough room. The part I hadn't quite expected was the closed oval handle, rather than the usual curved end. It took a little getting used to, and the folded umbrella is larger than I had pictured for something described as compact. Neither has really bothered me in use. Rain hasn't found its way onto my shoulders so far, which was the main thing I wanted. It feels solid in the hand. With those details in mind, I would still buy it again.

Brandon Copeland

fairly compact & handy for shade when I can't be bothered with a hat.

fairly compact & handy for shade when I can't be bothered with a hat. takes up a bit more of my bag than I'd like, so not something I carry every single day. handle is solid though & it's comfortable enough to use. I still take mine out now and then. would probably buy another, I am pretty serious about avoiding direct sun when I can.

I've used it in rain with some wind and it has been fine.

Plenty of cover for me and the top of my backpack. I've used it in rain with some wind and it has been fine. The sleeve is simple to pull off and put back on (which I've done more than once). Opening is just a press of the button. Only thing is the oval grip feels quite large in my hand, so smaller hands might find it a bit much.

Kirsten Calhoun

Taking the sleeve off was easy.

Straight out of its sleeve this umbrella felt solid and properly put together. Having used it several times in heavy rain, I think that first impression was right. There is a good amount of cover overhead and it has done a good job of keeping me dry. I was more concerned about the wind, as I hate trying to hold an umbrella that wants to turn itself inside out. The frame has coped well with the gusts I have been out in and feels reassuringly strong. For me it was worth spending the money, although getting it back into the sleeve is a different story. Taking the sleeve off was easy. Putting it on again once the umbrella had been opened and used required more patience than I wanted to give it. The umbrella itself has continued to impress me, especially how the ribs give a little in the wind rather than feeling brittle. It feels built for use, not just nice to look at when you first unpack it. My advice on the sleeve is to try it and see how you get along. I have set mine aside because I would rather just fold the umbrella neatly than fuss with that last bit. Other people may be better at it than me. That small annoyance does not make me regret buying it. The important part is sturdy, provides decent coverage and feels worth what I paid. I would rather have a good umbrella with a fiddly sleeve than the other way round. One thing to bear in mind about the size: it folds down, but it is not a tiny pocket umbrella. At around 40cm folded it still needs a reasonable amount of room. That seems a fair trade for the coverage and solid feel.

I ordered two in gray and both seem equally solid.

Until you take an umbrella out on a windy wet day, you don't really know much about it. I've spent more on umbrellas without getting anything noticeably better, so this one managing the weather without turning over is a good enough start for me. I ordered two in gray and both seem equally solid. My only small gripe is that the gray looks a little dull in person, though that's hardly going to affect how it works. Nothing exciting to look at, but I'd rather have an ordinary looking umbrella that does the job than pay extra just for looks.

Good construction, and easy to use.

I wanted an umbrella to bring along to the lake after borrowing one on a camping trip a few weeks ago. It belonged to a friend, and I wanted a little more coverage without something awkward to carry. This green one has worked out very well. The shade is good and there's enough room underneath for me without feeling cramped. It has also been steady in the wind I've encountered, though we don't get much strong wind here. One thing about the size: it's compact, but *not* a tiny pocket umbrella. Folded down it's manageable to carry, and opened out it gives a useful amount of cover. I'm particularly impressed with how it operates. The ribs have some give without seeming flimsy, and the button has a nice positive action. One press opens it quickly, another brings the canopy closed. You then shorten the telescoping shaft by hand. The oval loop handle is comfortable to hold. I haven't owned it long enough to judge years of wear, but the construction gives me confidence so far. Living in Arizona, shade matters to me as much as rain protection. I carried this on a very hot day and was happy with how much more comfortable it made standing in the sun. No regrets about this purchase. Good construction, and easy to use. Pros + Generous coverage for a compact umbrella + Sturdy feel + Smooth button operation + Has done well in ordinary wind + Comfortable grip Cons Nothing to put here yet

I use these for shade and this is fine.

does what I wanted. If you expect something terribly fancy for the money then you're looking in the wrong place. I use these for shade and this is fine. Ordered two, one was an end of year thank you for my sons teacher. She loves hers. Could buy 20 and hand them out as easy summer gifts!

Dan Nash

My husband has been using this and is quite pleased with it.

My husband has been using this and is quite pleased with it. He's six foot one, and there's enough shelter for him underneath. I like the size too, not one of those tiny umbrellas that barely covers your head. It feels well made and I would certainly recommend it.

Belinda Sexton

I got it to shade a bird bath.....

After owning this a good while I'm finally getting round to reviewing it. For the money, no complaints. I got it to shade a bird bath.....lol Yes really, that's what I wanted it for. The bath gets sunshine for most of the day and I hoped a bit of shade would keep the water cooler and stop it disappearing quite so quickly. The canopy gives a nice patch of shade, which was all I needed. It has faded some now, but I reckon I've had good value out of it.

Good for the rain here in the city.

Good for the rain here in the city. That's why I decided to have another one handy. The only annoyance is fitting it neatly into the sleeve, which needs more folding and smoothing than I expected. It's a shame that part isn't a little easier because the umbrella itself is solid and works well. I don't have much spare time to fuss with it (in fact, being short of time is why I buy things online).

My husband walks all over a college campus for work, so this has been getting plenty of use between buildings and his office. There's a decent amount of cover when it's up, despite folding down fairly small. He needed a moment to work out the button the first time, and now it's straightforward. It might feel heavy on a really long walk, but for what he needs it has been excellent.

Erika Zimmerman

Good coverage without carrying a full length umbrella.

Good coverage without carrying a full length umbrella. I'm a tall, broad shouldered man and this keeps rain off my back and shoulders rather than just my head. The ribs feel substantial with a bit of give. Not the cheapest, but worth paying for something sturdy.P.S. a little smaller across than a golf umbrella, just much simpler to take along.

Wanda Aguirre

I'm enjoying an umbrella far more than is probably normal.

I'm enjoying an umbrella far more than is probably normal. A bit of rain in the forecast and I'm already looking forward to pressing that button. Three months on and the novelty still hasn't worn off. *insert dramatic entrance music* My girlfriend couldn't believe how excited I was over an umbrella. It's just fun to use.The one thing I'm less keen on is getting it into the sleeve. If I haven't wrapped the fabric neatly it takes a bit of fiddling, which I discovered pretty much straight away. Not a big issue, I just need to slow down instead of shoving it in.Overall, no regrets about buying it.

Fernando Hart

Solid umbrella with a simple, smart appearance.

Solid umbrella with a simple, smart appearance. After taking it out several times I am comfortable saying it does its job well. The oval loop handle is firm in the hand (and looks rather nice) and it springs open smoothly when I press the button. Opened out it gives me proper coverage, without being golf umbrella sized. I can have my work bag over one shoulder and still keep it under the canopy, which is what I wanted.

Jose Zuniga

It's a sensible design rather than anything magical in rough weather.

I chose this for my wife, who has a walk through boston as part of her daily commute. On a wet windy morning you see plenty of abandoned umbrellas around the bins, so I wanted something that felt more substantial without handing her a huge umbrella to carry.True to that idea, this has a solid feel and has handled the ordinary gusts she's met so far. That doesn't mean she stays completely dry when rain is blowing sideways. There is only so much cover a compact umbrella can give you, and you still need to hold it properly rather than expect it to do all the work. The automatic opening is useful when stepping outside and it packs down neatly afterwards. It's a sensible design rather than anything magical in rough weather. Not the cheapest choice, but for her regular walk I think the extra was worthwhile.

Shannon Prince

Button opening works well.

Good size when open -- enough room for me without being awkward to carry once folded. Button opening works well. My only reservation is putting it away -- the canopy shuts with the button, but the telescoping part needs pushing down by hand. Not difficult, just an extra job when it's wet.

Marcia Bradley

Overall I think it's a good umbrella.

Overall I think it's a good umbrella. It doesn't lie neatly in the little space I use on the car floor, and it's longer folded than I'd choose for carrying around. I prefer something I can tuck away without thinking about where it'll go. Also, I'm quite short and don't need so much coverage. Those are personal preferences rather than anything wrong with it. If carrying size isn't such a concern for you, it's a solid choice.

).

After around ten months of use, I still think this is a well made umbrella (damn New York weather!). The fabric feels substantial and the frame is much nicer than those cheap ones you buy in a hurry. I'm keeping it at four stars because it's a little heavier in my bag than I'd ideally like. That doesn't make it a bad umbrella, just something you notice after carrying it awhile. I do appreciate being able to open it with one hand, and it feels worth what I paid. Overall I'd rather have a little extra weight than something that feels flimsy every time the weather turns.

Kent Kelley

Works nicely, although the shaft needs a firm push by hand once…

Works nicely, although the shaft needs a firm push by hand once the button has closed the canopy. Works nicely, although the shaft needs a firm push by hand once the button has closed the canopy. Works nicely, although the shaft needs a firm push by hand once the button has closed the canopy.

Suddenly I'm not just getting rained on, I'm a person with equipment.

Pressing a button and having an umbrella spring open makes me feel ridiculously cool. Suddenly I'm not just getting rained on, I'm a person with equipment. Collapsing the canopy with that same button is another little victory. If everything I bought had this much drama I'd probably feel far more successful in life. Now I actually find myself hoping for a bit of rain so I can pull it out and look impressively prepared.

Preston Flowers

A lovely little umbrella!

A lovely little umbrella! This was an extra Christmas gift for my girlfriend and it does what it should. It fits along the length of her purse, quite snugly, with more room to spare in a bigger bag. The downside of that compactness is the small area you actually hold on the loop handle.. usually not an issue, except the button is right there too. Grip it the wrong way and it's possible to press it without meaning to, folding the canopy down on yourself. In normal rain you can sort that out, but rushing for a restaurant or looking for a cab while getting soaked is not when you want that little surprise!Other than the button being easy to catch, we're pleased with it. For someone who carries a purse it's a handy thing to have along. For guys I'd probably suggest a larger umbrella, especially if you're trying to shelter a woman beside you as well. A bit more space for two people and a bigger place to grip would be welcome then!

Marcia Saunders

Buying a pair made sense for me, one to use and one spare.

Have had the two umbrellas for a few days now and both are as I expected. They feel nicely made for the money, with a sturdy loop handle and a button that opens them promptly. Can't say anything about years of use yet, but the first few outings have been very good. The cover is generous for one person, not really something I would plan to share. Cream white looks smart without being fussy, which is what I was after. Compared with what I've looked at in local shops, the price seems very fair. Buying a pair made sense for me, one to use and one spare. Could also see giving one as a present, or taking it along to an outdoor wedding when the forecast is uncertain :).

Cole Gregory

This wasn't a first purchase for me

This wasn't a first purchase for me; I was already happy with the quality, so ordering another was an easy decision. There's nothing fun about an umbrella turning itself inside out when you need it most! Mine has kept its shape when it's been windy, which is what matters to me. I've given a couple as presents too, and my friends have been just as happy with theirs!

Rickey Brennan

light fabric does show the marks.

My two daughters, 3 and 8, have both had their turns with this in sun and rain. It's been knocked about plenty over nearly a year and is still usable. They think the cream white is pretty, and the loop handle has been a hit too. It certainly isn't looking fresh out of the packet any more; light fabric does show the marks. But for the amount of use it gets in our family I'm satisfied. Fair price, nice looking umbrella, and still coming out on wet autumn days.

Kristy Juarez

Pretty much what I was after.

Pretty much what I was after. It is heavier than some folding umbrellas, but that gives it a more substantial feel instead of that flimsy feeling you get with the really light ones. I tend to leave mine in the car for collecting people or doing the groceries, rather than carrying it around all day just in case. Folded up it will go into a backpack, though it isn't the tiny little thing I would want in a small handbag. The size suits that sort of use. There is a button to open it and bring the canopy together again, which is handy when getting into the car. You do still have to compress the shaft yourself afterwards, so yes, there is a little bit left for both hands to do. (What an ordeal~~)

Priscilla Bell

Quite a bit of cover for a folding umbrella.

Quite a bit of cover for a folding umbrella. My husband spends a lot of time walking between his office and other buildings on a college campus, so this has been useful for him. Took a minute to get familiar with the button, after that no trouble. He's happy with it. I imagine the weight might be noticeable if you were holding it for ages, but for his walks it's been good.

Dan Foster

Tucks into my briefcase nicely for an unexpected shower.

Tucks into my briefcase nicely for an unexpected shower. I'd avoid taking it out in really gusty weather. A gust did push the canopy inside out, but it went back into shape & closed afterwards without damage. For something I mostly keep just in case, I'm satisfied.

Alison Watson

Good value, practical product, pleasant service.

At work we have two buildings about a hundred yards apart, and people need to go between them whatever the weather. I was asked to find a reasonably priced way of keeping everyone a bit drier. I wasn't expecting too much from a compact umbrella, but the quality has been a pleasant surprise. It is easy to have ready by the door and quick to put up for the crossing. There was a little confusion over the delivery, which turned out to be mostly my misunderstanding. That was dealt with helpfully and without making a fuss . Between the quality of the umbrella and the way the query was handled, I'm pleased with the choice. Good value, practical product, pleasant service. FIVE STARS

Gerald Soto

The umbrella itself has been great, feels like very good quality.

Took it out in windy rain and it held its shape fine, though the water seemed to be coming from underneath so I still got pretty wet haha. I've had it a while and it's had plenty of use since then. The umbrella itself has been great, feels like very good quality.

Alec Cooke

It was a pleasure to find this one.

I have always liked an umbrella with a generous canopy, but wanted something easier to carry when it wasn't raining. It was a pleasure to find this one. I haven't had any rain to test it in yet, though it seems sturdy, and the blue fabric is a lovely colour. Folded up it is a manageable size, which was important to me.

Timothy Gates

Very happy with this umbrella!

Very happy with this umbrella! It was wet and windy on the walk from the train to my office this morning, and I got there dry without feeling like I was wrestling with it. The frame has some give rather than feeling completely rigid.I also appreciate how quickly it opens - one press and it's ready. To put it away I press the button to gather the canopy, then push the telescoping section together myself. That is how the closing works; the whole handle isn't supposed to disappear on its own. The sleeve helps keep everything together and looking tidy once it's folded. To anyone worried about how an umbrella looks when packed away... I really don't spend much time inspecting that. I want it comfortable in my hand and useful in the rain. This one has done that, which matters a lot more to me.

Felicia Kramer

Having been so pleased with mine, I've given a few as gifts too.

After using this one, I find the really flimsy umbrellas hard to put up with. There is a reassuring amount of support in the frame, and it has stayed the right way round when the wind has picked up. Having been so pleased with mine, I've given a few as gifts too. They've gone down well every time.

Amy Skinner

A very, very solid feeling umbrella.

A very, very solid feeling umbrella. We get the occasional windy day here in Santa Monica and I wanted something dependable for our infrequent rain. Just looking at the frame, this seems better built than the umbrellas I've had before. Rain was my reason for buying it, not shade, although I can certainly imagine it being useful on a sunny day too.

Alexis Robles

It has a much more substantial feel.

A few months in and I still have this umbrella, which is already better than my usual record of hanging onto one. It cost only a little more than the cheap umbrellas displayed by shop doors when it rains. The difference is obvious once you hold it, though. It has a much more substantial feel.

Bradley Roman

The construction feels good and it opens smoothly.

Quite a manageable size folded considering the coverage when it's open. My old umbrella poked out of my backpack, but this one goes inside with some space left. The construction feels good and it opens smoothly. Early impressions are positive, although I haven't used it enough yet to judge how well it will hold up over time.

Andre Gonzalez

this works nicely.

I needed something that could stay in the car without taking over the space -- mainly for those wet dashes from parking to the shop ... this works nicely. The beige looks like the photo and the frame seems solid enough for regular use. A sleeve is included, which is a useful little extra. It's not the tiniest folded umbrella, but it stows away easily where I need it. I'd recommend it for somebody wanting practical rain cover without carrying a full length umbrella.

Jeanne Richardson

Does the job very nicely.

Dad enjoys fishing and going to sports, so I got him this for shade as well as rain. We were out together taking photos and looking around when the rain came down. It gave him a decent amount of cover without being some enormous thing to carry for the rest of the day. Does the job very nicely.

Laurie Galloway

I tend to reach for a smaller umbrella most days.

I tend to reach for a smaller umbrella most days. This one folds, but at about 40cm it still takes up a fair bit of room in my work bag. On a properly wet day I appreciate the extra cover and would take this instead. For a quick trip to the office in light rain, the smaller one is handier. Good umbrella, just not the tiniest option for everyday carrying.

Kirsten Chandler

She was so pleased with it...

It opens up quite a lot wider than I pictured, so that was a nice surprise. the handle has more plastic to it than I'd choose, although it seems solid enough. Got it for my daughter to carry around the city. She was so pleased with it...started hoping for a rainy day straight away. Now she's actually had it out and says it kept her dry, even with a breeze blowing along the street. She holds it a little higher so she can watch the busy pavement. Not the smallest thing folded, but she's pleased with it.

Bianca Wyatt

A carry sleeve?

A carry sleeve? Yes, though not the sort I wanted to bother with every time I put the umbrella away. That may sound like splitting hairs, but little practical details still matter to the person using something. I eventually kept the sleeve at home for storage and carried the umbrella by its loop instead. That settled it; I no longer had to deal with the sleeve between uses. The umbrella itself has worked perfectly well in the rain, and carrying it that way has suited me much better.

Carol Boyd

Already told a friend this one is worth a look!

Haven't had a really windy day to try it on yet, but the finish looks good and it feels well put together. My previous umbrella would fold the wrong way in practically ANY breeze. Already told a friend this one is worth a look! Seems fairly priced for what you get.

Caleb Richmond

Living in Oregon has made me rather fussy about umbrellas.

Living in Oregon has made me rather fussy about umbrellas. This one has met my expectations without much fuss of its own. It has handled the wet days I've used it for, and I appreciate the straightforward look; I'm partial to things that aren't too showy. I would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable everyday umbrella.

Tom Hurley

Something easy to keep in a briefcase?

Need an umbrella that won't take over your travel bag?Something easy to keep in a briefcase?Prefer a button instead of wrestling with the canopy? This has worked nicely for me!Packs away without much fuss, and the heavy rain I've used it in hasn't given me any reason to complain.

Selena Chapman

I was pleased when they arrived and would happily choose them again.

These were Christmas presents for the people who care for my autistic son. Everyone seemed delighted. The umbrellas look excellent and feel substantial ! Nice that there's a sleeve too, makes them tidier to give. I was pleased when they arrived and would happily choose them again.

Melinda Mcintosh

The construction seems good, and the opening action is convenient.

I was expecting gray on the inside as well as the outside, so the black underside surprised me.The top is definitely gray, just not the whole thing. Hmmm. I had been looking for something to use for shade, and I wasn't sure if I had misunderstood the pictures or the description. ---------------- UPDATE: I asked customer service about it and received a helpful answer! The dark underside is part of this umbrella's design, with the gray colour on the outside. That clears up what I was looking at. I have now used it outside and it provides comfortable shade, which was what I wanted in the first place. I do still think a picture showing both surfaces clearly would have saved me the confusion (maybe I just missed one?). So I am keeping it. The construction seems good, and the opening action is convenient. My reservation is about how I understood the appearance, not about how it works.

Luis Clements

Good choice for everyday rain.

Where I live, rain doesn't always come straight down, so I want an umbrella that feels substantial. This has been comfortable to hold and has coped well with the breezy wet days I've used it in. It isn't the tiniest folded umbrella to carry, but I'd sooner have the sturdier feel when the forecast looks miserable. Good choice for everyday rain.

Ross Costa

This replaces an old umbrella that gave us fifteen years of use.

This replaces an old umbrella that gave us fifteen years of use. My Mom had fairly specific ideas about the size and the look she wanted. The loop handle suits her and the canopy is close to what she was used to. Can't judge years of durability yet, but the first impressions are good.
