An excellent umbrella with a handle I particularly like.

An excellent umbrella with a handle I particularly like. The oval loop is comfortable to hold and gives it a neat look. The cream white is prettier in person than I'd guessed from the pictures. There's a generous canopy too, which has kept me dry in the rain. I've already had a few compliments on how it looks.

Works for me :P

I expected the unusual handle to be the main attraction, with the actual umbrella a bit of an afterthought- turns out I had it backwards. It opens smoothly and the canopy closes neatly with a press. Much more solid than I imagined and perfectly useful as my everyday umbrella. Taken it into the office a few times and the loop has earned some funny looks. I suppose carrying your umbrella by something that looks like a giant key ring is not everybody's idea of business attire. Works for me :P

My first impression is very favorable.

It felt a little optimistic to be shopping for an umbrella when we have had so little rain lately. A small shower in our neighborhood was enough to remind me why I needed one, though. The one that has lived in my car for years was letting drops through. On examination the material had worn thin where it met the frame. I have no idea when I acquired it, so I think it had earned its retirement rather than given me much cause for complaint. After reading around and comparing a few options, I settled on the Cream White Haven. It wasn't the cheapest choice on my list, but the construction looked worth paying a little extra for. Mine arrived yesterday evening, and this morning I spent some time looking it over and trying the mechanism. My first impression is very favorable. The fabric looks neatly fitted and the frame feels substantial without making the whole thing awkward to carry. There is quite a snap to the opening action. I would give it some clear space before touching the button, particularly if someone is standing beside you. A second press folds the canopy, but leaves the telescoping shaft extended. You then push that back down toward the handle by hand to have it ready for the next opening. Once I had done it, the distinction was perfectly straightforward. Haven was an unfamiliar name to me, which sent me back to the product description after my inspection. The flexible ribs and the oval loop handle were details I had rather skimmed over while shopping. Having it here to examine makes those details more meaningful than they were on a screen. Naturally I cannot report years of service after a day of ownership. For now, though, I am satisfied with my choice, and I will add anything useful if experience gives me a reason to.

very good value for what you get.

Elegant enough for a stroll through the French Quarter on a hot summer day...Really nicely made, and so pretty. I'm tempted to get another in pink IF I decide I need a spare....very good value for what you get. It arrived looking just as I'd hoped. VERY pleased indeed and would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting something attractive and useful.

Well, there's a lot more umbrella here than I was expecting!

Well, there's a lot more umbrella here than I was expecting! Rain isn't an everyday thing for us in Arizona, so I wanted a folding one I could keep handy, but not another flimsy little thing. This feels substantially made and gives me plenty of cover. The trade-off is that it takes more room in my bag and has more heft than I'd pictured. Opening is quick, just a press and it's up. Packing it away took me a couple of tries to get familiar with. The button collapses the canopy, not the whole length; you finish by pressing the telescoping shaft down until it clicks. That needs a fairly firm push, but it's just how it resets. Overall I'm pleased with the cover and solid feel, less keen on the bulk and the effort to pack it away.

The button works smoothly to open it and collapse the canopy.

I spent far too long comparing umbrellas before settling on this one. The button works smoothly to open it and collapse the canopy. It hasn't flipped over in the wet, blustery weather I've used it in. For an umbrella that folds away so neatly, the construction is better than I was expecting.

The size has worked out well.

The size has worked out well. I picked one up for my boss, she travels alot and wanted something for her laptop bag. She says it fits without taking up all the room (some folding umbrellas are still quite bulky). Her elderly mother saw it and liked it enough to ask me to get another for her too. I can see why she likes it. Now I'm thinking maybe I should keep one myself instead of just buying them for everybody else. :-)

The handle is a closed oval loop.

I haven't used it for long yet but these are the details I would have wanted to know.About 105cm across when open,40cm folded and roughly 390g.Roomy for one,not a big shared golf umbrella.Beige outside with a black underside. The handle is a closed oval loop.Button opens it and brings the canopy in,you still compress the shaft yourself.More once I've had it outside longer.UPDATE: Carried it while apple picking on a hot sunny day. My girlfriend's family thought I looked a bit silly bringing an umbrella for sunshine, until they had been walking in that HOT sun a while. Then my little patch of shade looked a lot more appealing! It was more comfortable underneath than in the direct sun. Four stars for now because I haven't had enough use to judge everything, but it did make that outing easier.

Casey Andrade

Beige is a nice simple colour too.

Very useful on the golf coarse. I carried it for shade last week when the sun was really strong and was glad to have it along. It gives a decent patch of shade for a handheld umbrella, then folds away so it isn't awkward around the buggy. The frame feels well made and the button is handy when you want it up quickly. Beige is a nice simple colour too. Good value for what I paid. Happy with how it's worked out.

Much less awkward than carrying a long umbrella around.

This has earned its place in my car during the rainy months around the Bay area. I've been using it for a couple of years and it has always been reliable for me. If I'm heading off on foot, the folded umbrella slips into my backpack and its sleeve keeps it all together. Much less awkward than carrying a long umbrella around. I've also packed it for China and Russia, where it dealt well with the wet and windy days I had. I like it enough that it tends to come along whenever there's a chance of rain.

Andres Moody

It is not something I would describe as unaffected by wind, though.

There is a lot to appreciate in the way this has been put together. The frame has plenty of flexible ribs, the fabric feels substantial rather than flimsy, and it folds into a manageable size. I particularly appreciate having a button for opening and for drawing the canopy closed. You still have to compress the telescoping shaft yourself afterwards, which is straightforward once you know. It is not something I would describe as unaffected by wind, though. In gusts the outer edge can move about more than I would prefer, and that sometimes lets rain reach my sleeve. I would have liked a little more resistance around that edge. Still, the flexibility seems a sensible compromise and it has been convenient for everyday rain. Good design overall, just not completely sheltered from the weather in every direction.

Earl Jennings

Happy with it up to now.

Happy with it up to now. Pressing the button shuts the canopy, not the whole stem - you still push that in yourself. That's enough to make getting into the car easier when I've got my daughter and bags to juggle. Would get another!UPDATE: More than six years later this umbrella is still with me and looking almost unused...money very well spent!

In use, though, I find the space for my hand rather small.

Good coverage for one person, and it's kept me dry through several quite heavy showers. The handle was the bit I hadn't really studied in the pictures. It's a closed loop rather than a hook, which looks tidy and gives you somewhere to clip it when carrying it. In use, though, I find the space for my hand rather small. My hands are a little larger than average for a man, and I can't settle my whole hand around it comfortably. Otherwise it would have been five stars from me.

Ordered a pair, so there's one at home and one in the truck.

Ordered a pair, so there's one at home and one in the truck. I've only had one rainy outing with it so far, but it felt solid and packed down neatly afterwards. It has some weight to it, which I don't mind if that means a sturdier frame. My husband and I managed under the same canopy by staying close together, rather than each carrying one. I picked blue and it looks smart. Useful size to keep around without having a long umbrella rolling about in the truck!

Mindy Li

Still folds to a manageable size though.

A little more coverage than the compact umbrellas I've used before, enough to shelter my computer backpack on the walk to work. Still folds to a manageable size though. It's also been through some gusty weather with me and has stayed the right way round so far - very pleased!

Kristin Duarte

Having had my trousers thoroughly soaked in a spring downpour, I…

Having had my trousers thoroughly soaked in a spring downpour, I started paying rather more attention to what I was carrying for rain. The old umbrella earned its place in my briefcase by being small, which is not quite the same thing as being useful. I wanted decent cover without having to carry a full-length umbrella everywhere, and this one has proved a sensible compromise. It opens to a useful size for me, feels substantial without being a burden, and still folds away when the weather clears. The button is convenient, too--not the reason I wanted it, but something I now appreciate when getting caught in the rain. (For the record, I am not a golfer, so I can't tell you how it would suit a round on the course. My requirements are considerably less sporting: getting where I need to go without being drenched. For that sort of everyday use, this is a well thought out umbrella, and one I'm perfectly content to carry)

Colleen Sanders

it keeps me dry in Seattle rain!

My college roommate had a beautiful umbrella some 20 years ago-- apparently it set my tastes for life! I've kept looking for that slightly romantic look without anything too old fashioned. The pink here is lovely, and I find the loop handle pleasant to hold. Best of all, it isn't just something pretty to look at; it keeps me dry in Seattle rain!

Tracy Hartman

If your fed up with replacing flimsy umbrellas all the time, this…

If your fed up with replacing flimsy umbrellas all the time, this feels like a much better choice. It seems sturdy rather than disposable and has already been useful in the rain. Opens without a struggle and doesn't feel like its fighting you while you hold it. I wouldn't call any compact umbrella storm equipment, but for everyday use I'm happy.

Jerry Petty

The beige is a gentle, lovely color.

Wonderful!!! So happy to have found a useful umbrella at a price I could manage, a small thing but such a pleasure! The beige is a gentle, lovely color. Opens with the button, not exactly weightless, and pressing the shaft back down took some getting used to, but now it is fine. There is a sleeve too... little things to learn, nothing serious. Thank you, very happy with my choice!🫶

Andres Zuniga

I've caught that button while walking in heavy rain a couple of times.

I've used folding umbrellas for years and like how little room this one needs. Being able to pull the canopy in with the button is handy, though I'm learning to relax my grip. I've caught that button while walking in heavy rain a couple of times. Still pleased with it.

Tracy Stuart

Easily my favourite umbrella now.

At last, one that has stayed put through the gusts I've been out in. Easily my favourite umbrella now. The handle feels comfortable and the sleeve is useful for keeping it tidy when I'm not using it. My mother spotted mine and wanted the same, so I ordered hers before mine became a permanent "loan". Very glad I did.

Julia Burgess

Overall a purchase I'm pleased with.

Really glad I picked these in blue. They look lovely and the oval loop handle is a nice touch, feels good in my hand too. The finish makes them look dearer than they actually were. They seem sturdy rather than flimsy, which matters more to me than looks alone. Overall a purchase I'm pleased with.

Joshua Mcintyre

The button mechanism feels nice to use and I reach for it regularly.

I wasn't sure how much cover something this compact would give me. Opened up it's bigger than I expected. The button mechanism feels nice to use and I reach for it regularly. Only had a few months with it so far, but it's already among the better umbrellas I've owned.

Cory Kennedy

Good-looking umbrella, and the fabric feels nicely made.

Good-looking umbrella, and the fabric feels nicely made. In rain and a breeze it has done well as expected. The closed oval handle is not quite to my taste, it looks rather plain next to the beige canopy, although there is nothing wrong with using it. I think of it more as an everyday umbrella than a smart looking accessory because of that. Would have preferred a different looking grip; the rest of it is very good. That is just my preference, so four stars rather than five.

Renee Velasquez

I've used a fair number of umbrellas over the years, and this one…

I've used a fair number of umbrellas over the years, and this one is doing exactly what I need. Mostly that means the short walk between home and the subway, a block or two at a time. I wouldn't choose a compact umbrella for staying out in a long downpour, but for those little journeys it's been great. It folds down enough to go in my everyday bag, and the weight hasn't made carrying it around a chore.

Frank Hanna

I'm delighted with mine.

This is the nicest looking umbrella I've had and opening the package was a real pleasure. The simple canopy with the dark underside gives it a more finished look than I expected. If you want something a little nicer than the everyday bargain umbrella, I think this is worth spending a bit more on. I'm delighted with mine.

An umbrella I'm actually glad to take along!

After going through several flimsy umbrellas, I wanted something that felt worth keeping rather than replacing. This has given me that impression from the first use.The folded umbrella feels reassuringly substantial, and the frame is much more composed than the loose, rattly ones I've had before. The closed oval handle is a slightly unusual shape, but it sits comfortably in my hand and gives me a secure grip. One press opens it, another folds the canopy; you still need to shorten the telescoping shaft yourself before putting it away. That feels like a reasonable arrangement rather than a chore. In the windy showers I've encountered, the canopy has stayed in shape and kept the rain off. I wouldn't let go of it in a gust, obviously, and I don't expect any handheld umbrella to be storm equipment. Folded up, it slips into my briefcase with room for the things already in there, and packing it in a carry-on would be easy too.An umbrella I'm actually glad to take along!

Leonard Rice

It has surprised me in a good way.

Wanted some shade because I burn so easily, and ordered without particularly high hopes. It has surprised me in a good way. The canopy feels securely attached, the ribs flex without feeling flimsy and the stitching still looks neat after use. It also wraps back down nicely rather than turning into a messy bundle. Very glad I gave it a chance, love it!

Alan Michael

A very practical thing to have around.

Michigan weather never seems to make up its mind & I like having an umbrella where I can reach it. I've kept this one in use for over five years now and it has been dependable through plenty of wet days. I have use it going to work and getting in and out of the car, not just leave it sitting at home. The folded size works for my work bags, and there's room for it in the door compartment too. Since trying the first one I've bought more & leave them in different places, so I'm not forever hunting for the umbrella I used last. One stays at home, others go in the bags I take to my different jobs. A very practical thing to have around.

Love having this umbrella ready for the kids.

Love having this umbrella ready for the kids. Feels durable, keeps the rain away and a damp cloth takes care of the little marks. The handle feels solid too. We've gone through plenty of rain gear with them over the years and this has been a lovely addition. A BIG YES

Shelia Andrews

This really is a lovely umbrella.

This really is a lovely umbrella. Gives me enough coverage and looks nicely put together. I've never had much luck keeping umbrellas going they always seem to give up, but this feels more substantial than those. Looks even nicer in person than the photo manages to show, which surprised me.

Jeremiah Zuniga

There is one part of the closing routine worth knowing.

The folded umbrella sits comfortably in my shoulder bag without taking over the whole thing. I used it a number of times while traveling in Normandy and England, and the button was especially useful when a shower appeared out of nowhere. There is one part of the closing routine worth knowing. The button draws the canopy shut, but it doesn't shorten the shaft for you. You have to press the telescoping shaft down towards the handle until it clicks into its stored position. After that it is ready to open with the button again. I didn't quite understand this at first and wondered why another press wasn't doing anything. Once I understood the reset, it became a simple enough habit rather than something to worry about. Shutting the canopy and shortening the shaft are two separate steps, that's all. I bought two in pink and plan to have them in regular use throughout the year. For what they cost, I would be happy to replace them when they eventually wear out.

Stuart Ramos

It's just how this type works, not a fault.

The pink looks cheerful when everything outside is grey. The button handles opening and closing the canopy, but you have to push the shaft back into the handle yourself before it can open again. I didn't realise that on my first rainy outing and made rather a meal of putting it away. It's just how this type works, not a fault. I've had compliments on its appearance too. Now I've worked out the closing routine, I'm much happier using it.

Michaela Nichols

Some made it sound like finding a decent one was impossible.

I chose this after reading a lot of pretty discouraging umbrella reviews. Some made it sound like finding a decent one was impossible.Mine came today and first impressions are good, nice size when it's open, and the button brings the canopy in as well as opening it. THEN YOU PUSH THE SHAFT IN BY HAND-- easy enough once you know, no fiddling around..Haven't had any rain to try it in yet, but it's due tomorrow, so I'll add more if it doesn't keep me dry.

Sonia Wolfe

Worth considering if you are looking for this kind of umbrella!

The parcel reached me sooner than I had expected and the umbrella was carefully packed. I had been a little worried about how it would look after travelling, but it came out looking very neat. The gray is close to what I saw in the pictures and the finish around the frame is tidy. After trying it, I can say that the opening action works smoothly and the fabric has a good substantial feel. I also had a question before using it and the reply was friendly and straightforward. That left a good impression as well. 😊 Considering what I paid, the quality has exceeded what I had in mind. I am satisfied overall and would be comfortable buying another one in future. Worth considering if you are looking for this kind of umbrella!

Harold Strong

A smart little umbrella, and the blue really makes it stand out.

A smart little umbrella, and the blue really makes it stand out. The size seems just right for carrying about. This one is going to be a present and I think she'll be delighted with it. Umbrellas have a habit of being left behind, so another is always useful! The simple design and that lovely blue were what caught my eye.

Courtney Tran

Bought a pair, one each for me and my friend.

Bought a pair, one each for me and my friend. Mine lives in the golf bag. During the first rain we were on our way back to the clubhouse and I found it didn't give much cover with the rain blowing across us.The umbrella held up but I had to keep moving it and still got a wet shoulder. It packs away neatly and opens easily, just not quite big enough for me on the course

Sheena Franklin

It has handled being out in the wind quite well too.

We had a flower shop and he did the deliveries, so this umbrella got used a lot. It is years later now and he still takes it out. We stopped working two years ago but it gets used plenty. It has handled being out in the wind quite well too. Has lasted us well.

Jodi Cantrell

The fabric feels different to the umbrellas I've owned, so I'm curious to see how it sheds rain. The button is straightforward to use, which should make things easier getting on and off the bus. All those ribs are another plus, and the frame looks like it should cope with a bit of a breeze.

A cheery umbrella that can come along for rain or sunshine.

I spent two weeks away from Arizona this fall, with a business conference in New York City for the first week and a week at the Orlando parks with friends after that. New York was soaking wet and the umbrella I had was just the thing. In Orlando's blazing sunshine, though, standing under it felt more like being baked. So, cream white this time! A cheery umbrella that can come along for rain or sunshine. It feels sturdy, is bigger than my little folding one yet still goes in my purse, and has some weight to it.What costs it a star is having to push the shaft all the way back in before opening again. If I close the canopy briefly to squeeze through a gate or past people, I can't pop it straight back open from there. It has to be fully reset first. Not a fault, just an awkward extra step until I got the routine into my head.

Erik Frey

The button action is handy and works smoothly.

I've only had occasion to use it a few times, but it has done everything I needed. Folded up, it sits mostly inside one of my bigger raincoat pockets. The button action is handy and works smoothly. I haven't taken it out in much wind, so can't really comment on that, but it feels well put together.

Thomas Chung

Quite a substantial umbrella...

Quite a substantial umbrella...about what I hoped for. Still waiting for a longer spell of rain to see how it fares with regular use.Not the cheapest, but the construction and the number of ribs make me feel the extra was worthwhile. The oval loop handle is a different grip from the straight handles on my indoor chin-up bar...secure to hold, although I am curious how comfortable it will feel over a longer stretch. I tend to notice places where dirt from the hand might collect, so ease of cleaning matters to me as much as the first impression. No problems to report, just something I will watch with use.Perhaps a simpler handle shape would suit my hand better, but overall this feels like a very well considered umbrella.

Norman Haas

she likes fun things, but I wanted it to be useful too.

I wanted an umbrella to give a friend that looked cute without seeming made for a little kid; she likes fun things, but I wanted it to be useful too. This one is nicely grown up and actually gives an adult decent coverage. Good value, not overdone or tacky looking, and she was really happy with it!

Mary Lyons

The beige is a little warmer in person.

Happy with how this looks and feels--the fabric has some substance and the whole thing seems nicely put together. The beige is a little warmer in person. Open it's a generous size--not the easiest thing for my 3-year-old to manage yet, but I'm glad she'll be able to keep using it as she gets bigger.

Kari Schwartz

this one gives a nice bit of shade and feels good to hold.

arrived when expected and was packed nicely. very happy with this one..!!! it is my second umbrella, the other one is smaller and that stays in my bag. I wanted a little more cover for when we go down to the lake. this one gives a nice bit of shade and feels good to hold. i am glad I went for it, will be using it again.

Brendan Hampton

His face when it arrived!

My four year old grandson asked his grandma for a replacement umbrella, so I wanted to find him a good one. This seems much nicer than his old one and he took to the oval handle straight away. His face when it arrived! Now he carries it around with him and does his little tap dances, he is so pleased with it. When he asks me for something special I like to get it right, and this was just what he wanted.

Alexis Patel

Choosing a colour wasn't easy, but I settled on green.

The much needed rain we've had lately in California made it clear my old umbrella wasn't up to it anymore. I'm pleased I picked this one, it looks smart and opens very smoothly. Choosing a colour wasn't easy, but I settled on green. Such a stylish umbrella and it feels like one I'll be using for years!

Riley Rosario

Really love this umbrella!

Really love this umbrella! The button closes the canopy once I'm in the car so I don't get soaked fumbling with it.Not too weighty in my purse and the gray reminds me of the lunchbox I had as a kid. Enough cover for two on a quick dash AND rainy season in FL means lots of those. I'm getting a couple more for friends as gifts.

Leonard Fowler

It isn't a curved walking stick handle.

LOVE mine. Is a pretty gray and feels solid, especially around the handle. Really recommend.Update: I wanted to come back to this because I still like it, but my first description wasn't very clear about which sort of umbrella I have. Mine is the compact one with the oval loop handle, closed all the way around. It isn't a curved walking stick handle. I don't want somebody reading my review and picturing something different, so thought I should explain that. The gray is on top, with black underneath, and it folds down rather than staying long. That's the umbrella I'm reviewing and have been happy using. If you are after a long umbrella with a cane handle, that isn't what I am describing here. Still pleased with mine, just wanted to clear up the handle bit :)

Janet Byrd

(Wish I'd paid more attention to the folded size)

Initial impression is a solid umbrella, folds neatly and opens with a firm action.Haven't had many chances to try it in proper wet and windy weather...The only reservation - it's a bit more substantial in my bag than I prefer. (Wish I'd paid more attention to the folded size)
