It looks well made and has a solid frame, although the weight is a bit much for a petite woman like me.One thing I hadn't realised is the effort needed to get it fully closed. (The button folds the canopy, then you push the shaft back in by hand)That last push takes some strength. I could see older people or anyone with arthritis finding that part difficult.

Best one I've used so far.

Best one I've used so far. Someone seems to have paid attention to all the annoying little things about carrying an umbrella. Sorted. The loop handle is comfortable, the button works nicely, and it doesn't take over my bag. Mine arrived earlier than expected as well, which was a bonus.

Everything arrived nicely packed and I am satisfied with the quality.

I ordered eight for high school graduation gifts. Useful for walks between college buildings in wet weather, and priced sensibly when there are so many graduation invitations to respond to. The size seems practical for carrying with their things. Everything arrived nicely packed and I am satisfied with the quality.

Most of it seems solid and well put together.

It doesn't have a particularly fancy feel, but it's a good umbrella for the money. Most of it seems solid and well put together. The opening button feels a little plasticky to me, although it has worked every time I've pressed it. For what I wanted to spend, I'm pleased enough with it and don't feel I needed anything pricier.

The size is a sensible compromise.

Living in a place where showers can arrive with very little warning, I tend to think of an umbrella as something worth keeping within reach rather than leaving in a cupboard. It doesn't take a particularly long walk to get soaked here. Having one in the car has saved me from that more than once, and this one suits that purpose quite well. The size is a sensible compromise. Folded up, it fits comfortably on the back seat where I normally leave it, but there is a useful amount of coverage once it is open. The automatic opening is probably the part I appreciate most. There is nothing particularly new about an umbrella opening from a button, but that doesn't make it any less welcome when you are getting out into a downpour. I can pick it up, get it outside the car and have it ready quickly, rather than spend those first few wet moments trying to push everything into place. It is a small convenience that becomes quite noticeable with regular use. Handling it when the weather gets breezy has also been a reasonably good experience. A very rigid umbrella can be uncomfortable to hold when every movement of the air seems to pull directly against your hand. With this one there seems to be some give in the ribs, and in the ordinary gusts I have encountered it has felt manageable. I wouldn't take that as an invitation to use it in severe weather. For the sort of wet, unsettled conditions I actually need it for, though, it has provided shelter without feeling quite so much like something I am wrestling with. My reservation is mainly about how the folding assembly will stand up over time. Some of those smaller moving sections are difficult to judge when an umbrella is still fairly new. Nothing has given me trouble, so that is a concern rather than a complaint. Taking the price and convenience together, I consider it a worthwhile purchase, even if I would need longer use before making any claims about its durability.

It's fine for me, just worth knowing.

We get plenty of wet, blustery days here, so this isn't something that sits unused in a cupboard. The cheap umbrellas I had before were more trouble than help. This one has been dependable, with enough cover for me and a frame that copes well with normal windy rain. My first lasted three years before I left it on the bus going to work, hence buying another.Four stars because packing it away takes a fair push. The button gathers the canopy, then you press the telescoping section down yourself. Anyone with arthritis or a weak grip might find that part awkward. It's fine for me, just worth knowing. Also, consider it a one-person umbrella rather than something for a couple to squeeze under. I like being able to fold it for the commute, and would replace it again if I managed to leave this one behind too.

This umbrella has been a really good answer for me.

My skin is very fair. I went looking for an umbrella for shade because finding sunscreen I can tolerate has become such a nuisance. Homosalate is an ingredient I'm allergic to, and I keep finding it in products I used to manage with, including the sensitive and baby versions. Then I read worrying things about sunscreen ingredients and cancer and get even more fed up. I want to look after my skin, not feel coated in something greasy in the heat, or end up with another itchy rash. This umbrella has been a really good answer for me. It feels substantial, and I've been happy using it for rain as well as keeping the sun off. There's room for another person underneath if needed. Having my own patch of SHADE made the summer much easier to get through. I feel noticeably more comfortable underneath it than standing out in the sunshine. Downsides? Opened up, it does take up a fair bit of room. It folds away, but I still wish the sleeve had a shoulder strap, for carrying it when I'm not actually using it. I may work out something myself at some point. Someone who wants the smallest possible thing to carry might find it a bit much. For me, that is a small nuisance compared with being able to make some shade without putting on more lotion.

Shaun Hurley

She's very happy with it!

A friend needed a replacement umbrella, so I picked this one up for her. She's very happy with it! Folded it takes up less room than I imagined, but there's plenty of canopy once it's open. She can tuck it into the car door compartment and the included sleeve keeps it together nicely. A very worthwhile purchase, and one I'd happily suggest to someone else.

Michael Hendricks

She's particular about the size and how it feels to hold.

Replacing an umbrella my mom had used for about fifteen years wasn't quite as straightforward as I thought. She's particular about the size and how it feels to hold. This one gives her similar cover and she finds the loop handle comfortable. It seems nicely made, though we'll need more time before judging whether it lasts anything like as long.

About six months of using this now and I'm pleased.

About six months of using this now and I'm pleased. It's coped well with rain and some very windy days. Opening it takes hardly any effort, and it's felt dependable when the weather turns rough. The construction seems solid and lasting, so I'm hoping to get years out of it.

Andrea Hickman

You do still push the stem in afterwards.

Press a button and the canopy folds - I keep demonstrating it to people. You do still push the stem in afterwards. Has a reassuring solid feel - much better than the flimsy little ones I've had. Slightly bulkier folded than I imagined, hence four stars, though it does still fit where I need it.

Monique Farrell

After using it, I don't feel that way.

Watching the grandchildren play summer baseball and softball is MUCH nicer with this along. I can make a patch of shade for myself without having to leave my seat or hunt for a tree. The canopy is a good size for that, and it has been handy for rain as well. Not a giant umbrella to shelter the whole sideline, just a useful one I can hold and carry comfortably. (Cheering is enough work without sitting in the sun :-) I nearly passed it over because I tend to look for a bargain and spending more on an umbrella seemed silly. After using it, I don't feel that way. It is solid, simple to open and easy enough to take along, so it actually comes with me instead of staying at home. I've been telling people about it, which is probably more enthusiasm than an umbrella usually gets from me.

Finding something I could take on trips without giving up useful…

Finding something I could take on trips without giving up useful coverage was the main thing for me. We've had plenty of summer rain in Georgia and I didn't want another tiny umbrella that left my shoulders wet. This folds down to a sensible carrying size but opens wide enough for me. The simple black finish is appealing too, rather than something I'd tire of looking at.

Dan Mcgee

Light to carry, with a reassuringly sturdy feel.

Light to carry, with a reassuringly sturdy feel. The button is handy for getting it up quickly and folding the canopy afterwards.Packing it away still means pressing the pole down manually, and that takes a firmer push than I'd expected. It works as it should, just a little less effortless to put away than I hoped.

Lonnie Hamilton

The opening action feels solid and doesn't take any fuss.

Much more coverage than I expected from something that folds down this neatly. The opening action feels solid and doesn't take any fuss. The handle is a "loop", I suppose you'd call it, which looked a little odd to me at first, but it hasn't made carrying it any more difficult. It fits under the straps on my briefcase well enough. For anyone who wants a decent sized canopy without having to carry a long umbrella separately, this has worked out very well for me.

Virginia Bolton

My dog chewed the umbrella I'd kept for years and I was so upset.

My dog chewed the umbrella I'd kept for years and I was so upset. Finding another like it was a relief. Packs down small but gives proper cover when opened. The button makes opening and folding the canopy simple. Fits my travel bag fine. Wouldn't travel without it.

Veronica Acevedo

Would certainly recommend.

This isn't for trekking through a rainforest or battling hail. It's a compact little bundle that sits quietly in my computer case, doesn't add much weight, opens fast, dries fast and keeps my hair and shoulders dry on the walk from work to the car, or from the car into a store when rain suddenly starts. My bigger, heavier umbrellas give more cover in a real downpour and can shelter two people, but, they're not always with me. A little delicate feeling, yet nicely put together, and most importantly it's there. I've avoided getting drenched quite a few times during this rainy year because of it. Would certainly recommend.

Alisha Ali

Closing the canopy with the button is handy too.

I thought the unusual loop handle might be the main attraction and the umbrella itself a bit of an afterthought.I was wrong. It opens with a satisfying snap and feels like a proper everyday umbrella, not a novelty. Closing the canopy with the button is handy too.I've carried it into the office and had a few curious looks at the handle. Maybe everyone thinks I've become incredibly serious about hanging onto my belongings. Fair enough, I probably need all the help I can get :P

Connor Hanna

Everything underneath was in lovely condition.

I've always had a soft spot for umbrellas with a bit of personality. Still a kid inside at 40, even though I haven't got children and don't intend to. I was after an umbrella that wasn't completely boring, and this one caught my eye. it arrived so carefully wrapped I was there peeling packaging off for ages bwhahaha. not complaining, I was glad they'd bothered. Everything underneath was in lovely condition. The oval handle is my favourite bit, just a fun shape to hold rather than the usual stick at the bottom.

Isaiah Carpenter

++Unusual handle without sacrificing comfort

After a month of daily use, I've become rather attached to this umbrella. It is fairly understated until you get to the loop handle, and that has attracted a few curious looks. The grip suits my hand well. I make no promises about using it to battle imaginary ninjas, but for its intended purpose it feels solid and is straightforward to operate. A press of the button opens it without any fuss, and the fabric and frame seem well put together. The folded size is manageable without the open canopy feeling too small for everyday rain. The sleeve is useful rather than exciting. Having the folded umbrella covered makes it less awkward to put away with my other things. My only small complaint is that putting it back in takes more attention than getting it out. If the fabric is bunched up, I have to tidy the folds before slipping the sleeve over it. Not a serious inconvenience, just something to remember if you are expecting putting it away to be as instant as opening it. PROS: ++Unusual handle without sacrificing comfort ++Smooth opening action ++Good overall feel ++Practical size when folded CONS: --Cover goes on more easily with the folds straightened first For someone who appreciates a slightly different handle on an otherwise everyday object, I think it is an excellent choice.

Hoping to hang onto this one for a good while.

When this Umbrella came I was relieved because I half expected it to look cheap, but it really doesn't, I love it! This is my fourth in a similar style and they keep getting taken, apparently other people like them as much as I do but they could buy their own instead. Hoping to hang onto this one for a good while. I do want to get another for my 15 year old daughter though, she would like a different colour from my beige one. It looks lovely and the opening is so easy, I AM VERY HAPPY with it, it reached me quickly too so thank you, I would buy again!

Jeremiah Carney

I love how neat the black fabric looks on this umbrella.

I love how neat the black fabric looks on this umbrella. It's simple but still feels like something nice to carry. It comes with a sleeve that I can actually get it BACK into without fighting with it every time. Best part for me is the button, especially when I'm juggling a purse and the kids and it's already raining. One press opens everything out promptly. Another press folds the canopy in, and then I push the shaft down by hand before putting it away. That last bit isn't automatic, just so you know. The ribs feel substantial, but I can still manage it alongside everything else. My daughter and I can squeeze together underneath and stay dry, which has been handy more than once. It's also kept its shape in the windy weather we've had instead of immediately flipping over. I've gone through plenty of disappointing umbrellas, but this one has been a pleasure to use. Easily my favourite so far!

This blue umbrella has worked well on those counts.

Walking around the city is a big part of my day, so quick opening and a manageable folded size matter to me. I also want something that won't turn over at the first breeze. This blue umbrella has worked well on those counts. It gives quite a broad area of cover, which can be slightly awkward passing people on narrow pavements, but I'd rather that than wet shoulders. So far it's handled the windy rain I've used it in without trouble. One point about the automatic closing: the button gathers the canopy, it doesn't shorten the telescoping pole. You still have to compress that manually. I had expected everything to retract, so initially that surprised me. With my hands full it means stopping to sort things out before putting it away. It's not difficult once you know, just an extra step to allow for. Overall I'm pleased with the coverage and how easy it is to carry when I'm walking for a while.

Francisco Andersen

Lovely pink umbrella and feels very solid.

Lovely pink umbrella and feels very solid. I spent ages trying to find one that seemed properly made rather than something I'd soon be replacing. So far this one is doing just what I wanted. Costs a little more than I'd normally spend, but I'm happy to pay for the quality

Good - Gives decent cover, feels tough, keeps me dry, button is simpleBad- Packing away means pushing the stem in after the canopy shuts. That takes more effort than i expected and my hands don't much like it. Strong made umbrella, just the last part of putting away is not so easy for everybody.

Sheila Collier

Such an elegant umbrella!

Such an elegant umbrella! I've had people comment on it when I'm using it, and a couple have wondered whether it was just for shade. No, it has been perfectly useful in the rain too. It has handled the breezy days I've taken it out on without any fuss. I was a little unsure about choosing something so compact, but the coverage is quite good once it's open. Pretty enough to carry for its looks, practical enough to earn its place!

Jody Pittman

A similar umbrella went missing from my porch a while back.

A similar umbrella went missing from my porch a while back. (Somebody must have fancied it.) This replacement has worked out nicely. With a young son in a stroller, I need something I can get up without stopping and juggling everything, and pressing a button to open it makes a surprising difference. The coverage is good for me and I can angle it towards him too, although I wouldn't expect it to shelter a whole stroller as well as an adult. For walks around our suburban streets it's a practical size, and not so awkward when things get crowded. The only fiddly part for me is arranging it neatly to go back in the sleeve. I take an extra moment with the folds and it goes in fine. That's a small thing compared with how useful it has been on wet days. I'd happily suggest it to another parent who has their hands full.

Natasha Maxwell

We've been using a pair of these for more than a year.

We've been using a pair of these for more than a year. I wanted something better than the flimsy umbrellas that gave up whenever a gust caught them, bent bits and all... Both have kept working without any fuss. They've even coped with being borrowed by my kids, aged 10 and 5, who aren't exactly gentle when putting things away :)

Julie Little

I would certainly recommend them.

Each May I buy umbrellas for graduating high school students who are heading off to college, my own children included. It is one of those practical presents that actually gets used. These fold down well enough to go in a book bag without taking over the whole thing. The button is useful when they're carrying books and need to get the canopy up, or bring it down before going indoors. They still push the shaft in themselves afterwards. What several of the students have mentioned is the oval handle. It gives them something secure to hold rather than a tiny slippery grip. The ones I've given out have coped well with the rainy, breezy days here in the Midwest. I would certainly recommend them.

Chris Gonzales

The whole thing feels solid in the hand, not flimsy.

Only had one chance to use it so far, but that chance was a proper downpour with some gusts mixed in. It kept me dry and I wasn't constantly worrying about it folding the wrong way. The whole thing feels solid in the hand, not flimsy.I found it straightforward to open and close. The button closes the canopy and then you shorten the shaft yourself, which took no fuss at all. Coverage is about right for me, enough room to be comfortable but not so wide that walking along the pavement becomes a problem. I still pay attention around other umbrellas, of course, but I'm not having to tuck mine right against my head. For moms with a baby in a front carrier, I can see the space underneath being useful when rain catches you out. I haven't tried that myself so it's just a thought. It looks nice too. On this first outing it did everything I wanted and I'd choose it again.

Randall Fitzpatrick

Pretty pleased with it for these little stops.

This goes with my kayak gear for the times I'm stopped and want a little shelter. I've got enough stuff to lug around already, so something that folds away is a good thing. Used it in rain and also held it up for shade when taking a break. Let me tell ya, a patch of shade is freakin lovely when you're sitting out on the water. It's not something I try to hold while paddling, I put it away before moving on. The frame feels sturdy, and it gives me useful cover without being another long item to carry. Pretty pleased with it for these little stops. Would be nice having a clearer view overhead, but I'll happily take the shade.

Gregory Mckay

Very happy to recommend this umbrella!

Watering a tree somehow won me an umbrella, and I'm delighted with it!)) It feels very well made and bigger than my old one when open, about 105 cm across, with strong feeling ribs. The automatic opening is convenient, and it does have a sleeve for putting it away. The outer package had taken a knock on the way, but everything inside was fine. Good that it was protected. Very happy to recommend this umbrella!

Gene Landry

I'd recommend it.

Compact enough for my bag and straightforward to use. The included sleeve keeps it tidy when I've dried it off, rather than leaving loose fabric among everything else. The handle feels fairly short, which might not suit everyone, especially if your tall. I don't mind that trade-off, since I wanted something manageable to take along. I'd recommend it.

Yvonne Benson

Definitely a handy folding size!

Definitely a handy folding size! It goes into my everyday bag without much fuss, although it's not one of those tiny ones you can forget is there. The coverage is fine for me standing straight, but I can still get a little rain on my back if I'm carrying things. Not a big problem for me!Also, the black looks quite stark in person. I was hoping for something a little softer looking, and this is a very definite black. Still a useful umbrella.

Selena Howard

They have been very useful for us.

Our church bought umbrella's for the greeters to use when walking people in from the rain. They give good cover for the short walk to the entrance, though two adults need to stay fairly close together. They have been very useful for us. Each one has a sleeve to put it away in.

Evan Galloway

Very glad I chose this one!

I'd had enough of folding umbrellas that leave half of you sticking out in the rain. Wanted something I could keep in my bag without giving up decent coverage, with the convenience of a button-operated canopy. This does both nicely. The canopy is a useful size and the whole thing seems properly put together. Very glad I chose this one!

Angelica Tapia

I like carrying it about.

I lost 3 umbrella in just two months so I wanted one easy to keep with me. This folds down nicely and the city breezes have not bothered it so far. I like carrying it about. Still thinking of a bigger one for when the rain really pours, but for a compact it gives me decent cover

Aaron Mcguire

I've also managed it comfortably in light breezes.

Living in Hawaii with very fair skin, I already wear sunscreen daily and usually bring a compact umbrella along. It is handy when the rain appears, but I use one just as much to get out of direct sunshine. I decided to spend a little more on this one and have been pleased with that choice. It isn't the tiniest or lightest thing in my bag, although the extra bulk has been worthwhile for the comfortable shade. I find it much more pleasant standing underneath it than out in the glare, and the black underside is easy on my eyes. I've also managed it comfortably in light breezes. I wouldn't expect any handheld umbrella to handle everything, of course, but for my usual sun and rain it suits me very well.

Ariana Ramos

Excellent purchase, very pleased with the quality.

Impressed! The finish looks very tidy, and the canopy fabric has a pleasing feel rather than that papery feel I expected at this price. The stitching is neat, the ribs look substantial, and the whole thing feels carefully put together. A press opens it up nicely, another brings the canopy in, then you push the shaft back down yourself. Once folded, it is a neat package and doesn't feel awkward to carry with the rest of my things. The oval carabiner handle is a particularly clever part. You can clip it onto a bag or backpack rather than trying to find room inside, and it feels secure in my hand too. Such a small detail but it makes carrying it much simpler. I liked it enough that I'm considering another two. Excellent purchase, very pleased with the quality. Definitely something I'd recommend.

Tami Mcmahon

Seems a good solid umbrella too,not just a pretty thing.

Oooh cream white! My new umbrella makes me want vanilla ice cream, which is ridiculous in the rain LOL.Seems a good solid umbrella too,not just a pretty thing.Only used it a handful of times and already had smiles and lovely comments!People keep asking where to find one.Apparently I'm the umbrella expert now (if there's ever an ice cream outing in the rain...I KNOW what I'm taking!

Preston Burton

I'm very pleased with this one.

I'm very pleased with this one. Small enough for my purse and not too heavy to carry on day trips. It's handy when I end up somewhere sunny. My only niggle is closing it-I need both hands to push the shaft back down. A little effort, but not enough to spoil a really useful umbrella. Happy I decided to get it and expect to use it plenty over summer. I picked up another umbrella too and have been happy with that one as well.

Marco Arellano

I was pleased as soon as I unpacked it.

Yes, it's more than I'd normally spend on an umbrella, but, sometimes you would rather pay for the thing you actually want. I was pleased as soon as I unpacked it. The the umbrella looks lovely in person and everything feels nicely finished, not just something that looks good in a picture. (That matters to me.) Opening it takes no fuss and it's a comfortable size once up. I would also say that having it fold away afterwards makes the price a little easier to accept.I'd buy it all over again!

Traci Mann

A lovely looking umbrella and the size seems about right.

A lovely looking umbrella and the size seems about right. The construction looks sound too. I've not had much luck keeping umbrellas going in the past they never seem as sturdy as I hope, but this one gives a better impression. In person it looks even nicer than the photographs suggest.

Ariel Santana

The other point is the handle.

The structure of this umbrella seems quite substantial for a folding model. The ribs are flexible, the fabric sits evenly when opened, and the mechanism works smoothly. It has so far been out in rain with a little breeze, without anything happening that needed attention. That is the extent of my weather testing, not a claim about severe conditions. An operational point worth noting is that the button opens the umbrella and also closes the canopy. The telescoping section then has to be compressed manually before putting it away. Automatic closing does not mean that pressing the button shortens the shaft as well. My size notes are as follows: with the umbrella open; approximately 105 centimetres across the canopy with the umbrella folded; approximately 40 centimetres from end to end weight; about 390 grams. Those figures describe rather different things. The open width is useful for judging the space covered, whereas the folded length is what matters when deciding whether it will fit in a bag. Measuring over the curve of the fabric would produce a different figure from measuring straight across it. I would use the straight width for comparison, rather than count the curved surface as additional shelter. After reading descriptions of compact umbrellas, I think it is useful to check what compact means in practice. This is a folding umbrella, but not a tiny object that disappears into a small coat pocket. It is manageable to carry and provides a sensible amount of coverage for one person. Checking the folded dimensions against the intended bag is worthwhile. The other point is the handle. It is an oval closed loop, not an open walking-stick type handle. It gives me a satisfactory grip, but I would not buy this with the intention of leaning on it or using the end against hard ground. For its actual purpose, ordinary rain protection, I have found it sturdy and convenient.

Tamara Warren

The loop handle is easy for their small hands to hold.

The boys are delighted - a really manageable umbrella for them.I'm happy with the coverage, though they need to hold it high enough to see ahead rather than pulling it down over their faces. The loop handle is easy for their small hands to hold.Don't worry too much about mentions of a smell when first unpacked - ours just had that new material sort of smell.Left it open to air and it was soon ready to use.

Veronica Randall

Open coverage is roughly 105cm across.

The umbrella seems solidly built, with a sturdy frame and flexible ribs that cope nicely with a bit of wind. Button opening is smooth, However, once the button has closed the canopy the shaft need pushing back down manually. The folded length is about 40cm and it weights around 390g. Open coverage is roughly 105cm across. From the size and weight, this isn't the easiest folding umbrella I've carried about.Overall, it does a good job for one person in normal use. What I particularly like is the substantial construction, which makes it feel dependable when the weather turns unpleasant.

Madison Byrd

We've started calling it the pop-out shelter.

It looks fairly modest folded up, then pops out into a surprisingly roomy umbrella. We've started calling it the pop-out shelter. The automatic button is what makes this one for me: press to open, press again to draw the canopy in, then push the telescoping section down by hand. That last part isn't automatic. After using the button in the rain I wouldn't be keen to go back to wrestling a catch. Worth getting familiar with the action before you first need it outdoors.

Patty Lawson

Good coverage when open....

The positive comments persuaded me to try it. Good coverage when open....and a sensible size once folded away. Feels sturdy too. Cost mattered to me, and this seemed a fair price....especially considering how much more useful it is than the really tiny umbrellas.

Misty Stevens

I like the umbrella, the handle has a good solid feel, uhmm the button is fine for putting it up and gathering the canopy again. One thing though: compressing the pole takes more effort than I expected. After pressing to close, you need to push it all the way into the handle before the opening button will work again. That's the normal reset, just a little inconvenient for me, otherwise I'm happy with it.

Dustin Woods

Exactly the sort of umbrella I wanted.

Exactly the sort of umbrella I wanted. The construction feels sturdy enough for daily rain, unlike the tiny purse umbrellas I've had that never seemed to last. There is a useful amount of space under it when open, and the oval handle gives me a secure grip without needing to squeeze it hard. Folded, it is still longer than I would like for my small bag... so it isn't quite a take everywhere size for me. A fair trade for the better coverage though, I really like it!
