The days when I most want a portable umbrella are the ones that start out dry, with a chance of rain later. I don't want to carry one separately all day, so being able to put it away in my usual bag matters quite a bit. This one is reasonably light to hold, but at around 40cm folded it takes up more room than I was expecting. It won't sit neatly across the base of my smaller bags. Standing it up is possible, although having it sticking out makes me worry about it slipping out when I bend down.
There is a sleeve, which is useful in principle. Getting the umbrella out was straightforward; getting it wrapped tightly enough to slide back in has been another matter. So far I haven't managed it, despite trying to smooth the folds down. Perhaps that will become easier with practice, but I would prefer not to spend much time on that.
Considering the space it takes up when folded, I had imagined a little more coverage once open. The roughly 105cm canopy is adequate for me, just not as generous as I had pictured. Pressing the handle button opens it promptly, and another press collapses the canopy. I then have to shorten the telescoping shaft myself before putting it away. That is a reasonable arrangement, though there are still a few steps between finishing with it and having it packed.
The flexible ribs look reassuring, but I do wonder how all these folding sections will fare over time. We ask quite a lot of something that has to resist the weather and then fold down for carrying. The oval loop handle feels substantial, although it is a little bulky for my smaller hands.
So far I haven't used it in rain and wind together, which is the test I would really want before commenting on its sturdiness. I may have a better idea after more use. At present it seems serviceable, with convenient button operation, but the folded size makes it less appealing as my everyday carry or something to tuck into a bag for a trip.

Had the umbrella just two days now.
Had the umbrella just two days now. Bought for my wife who is fed up with flimsy ones and awkward catches. She is delighted. Pressing a button to put it up or collapse the canopy is very handy, and she thinks it looks lovely too. Two small things she mentioned. After the canopy closes, pushing the shaft back into the handle is still a manual job and needs a firm push. Also it is heavier than she expected, although not so much that she minds taking it out. Overall it seems a very strong, decent quality umbrella and she likes using it, which was the whole idea.

A year on, this umbrella is still looking good.
A year on, this umbrella is still looking good. It's handled the usual wind and rainy days around Boston without looking worn out, and that's really all I wanted from it. The blue looks lovely as well, and I've had people notice it when I'm carrying it. Feels sturdy in use. When I eventually need a replacement, I'd happily get this same one again.

I'd certainly consider buying another one as a gift.
I spent a weekend volunteering at a charity event in Philadelphia and needed an umbrella that wouldn't be awkward to carry around. I wanted decent coverage in the rain, something that felt secure in a gust and, ideally, blue. A photographer was beside me and we could tuck under it briefly, although I would call this more of a one-person umbrella. That weekend brought thunder and some seriously heavy rain, so it got used right away. I kept thinking how useful a few more would have been for everyone standing around. The quick opening was especially welcome when the showers started. I can see it coming along for landscape photography or simply a walk. My tall husband likes it too, even though it isn't enormous. The flexible frame feels substantial without making it a great big thing to haul about. I'd certainly consider buying another one as a gift.

Feels more solid too and for me it was money well spent!
My previous sun unbrella was' nt much help, I still felt like I was sitting in the sun. With this one I noticed the shade straight away, more like being under a tree than under thin cloth. No squinting up at bright material all the time. Feels more solid too and for me it was money well spent! (Happy with it)

Definitely money well spent!
Having an umbrella ready in the car makes such a difference when you're a teacher carrying bags back and forth. I keep this one there because I can get it open with one hand instead of stopping to wrestle with it. We live in a mountain valley, so rain and gusts are part of the routine. For the usual wet walk into work it's been great, and I use it for taking the dog out too. There is enough room over my head and shoulders without carrying one of those enormous umbrellas around. The useful part is that it folds down again when I'm done. I'd rather have something I actually take along than a huge one sitting at home. Definitely money well spent!

why keep buying cheap umbrella's that give up after a couple of…
why keep buying cheap umbrella's that give up after a couple of outings. I've got a few of these for the storms around town and they're all still going. Losing one in a taxi or leaving it at a bar is more likely than wearing it out. One hand on the button and it's open, good coverage without a bulky folded umbrella.
Willie Jordan
I ordered one each for my three boys.
I ordered one each for my three boys. After roughly a dozen rainy outings they're all still looking good. There's enough canopy to cover them properly, but they can manage carrying them themselves. The little children's umbrellas we'd had before left too much sticking out and getting wet. These have been a much better fit.
Dakota Singleton
For something that folds away, the coverage is really good.
10/10, I was surprised by how much room there is when this opens! For something that folds away, the coverage is really good. Two of us can huddle under it for a short walk. How long it lasts is something I'll find out with use. Pressing the button gathers the canopy, then I push the telescoping stem in firmly to pack it away. So far I feel my money was well spent.

Wind was my main concern when I chose this umbrella.
Wind was my main concern when I chose this umbrella. I tend to brace myself as soon as a gust catches a canopy, then spend the whole walk adjusting the angle. This one has felt more reassuring on blustery wet days. The flexible ribs seem to help, although I wouldn't deliberately take it out in a major storm. The cream white canopy is not see-through, so I do have to keep the edge above my eyeline. That hasn't been a problem for staying covered, just something to remember if you're used to looking through an umbrella. The button is convenient for opening and gathering the canopy. You still have to compress the shaft yourself afterwards, and that takes a deliberate push. I had imagined packing it away would be a little more effortless.I'm only 5ft 2 and I underestimated how much space a folded umbrella can take. It is compact compared with a full-length one, but not little handbag compact. In my smaller bag the handle sticks out. On public transport I prefer to keep it in my hand rather than try to tuck a damp umbrella beside my things.
Roy Gordon
The canopy covers me well and the loop handle feels secure in my hand.
Rainy nights in the city are miserable enough without juggling an awkward umbrella. My route from the office to the parking garage includes some very dark streets, and getting this open quickly makes that walk much less of a nuisance. At least I'm not standing there soaked while fighting with a catch.Personally, I'd like it a little shorter when folded. It fits my bag, but claims a fair bit of the space, and I'm not carrying an empty bag to work, thank you. That's my reservation rather than anything about the rain coverage. The canopy covers me well and the loop handle feels secure in my hand. It doesn't replace paying attention to traffic, of course. After a year of use mine still looks respectable and the mechanism works smoothly. Sensible thing to carry if you walk as much as I do.
Greg Henry
I've bought this one three times now.
I've bought this one three times now. They have been very good, honestly, I just have a habit of leaving umbrellas behind when I'm out. It folds down small, although getting it all the way back down takes a little pressure. The button shuts the canopy and then the pole needs pressing in manually. I steady the handle against something firm and that makes it simple. Apart from that, full marks from me. I'd like to report on several months of use, but the forgetting situation keeps getting ahead of that review.
Gerald Davila
Seems a good umbrella.
Seems a good umbrella. I haven't tested it in really strong wind, but the build feels decent. My one niggle is that after you press the button to shut the canopy, the telescoping part still needs pushing down by hand before it is ready to open again. So you cannot just keep pressing the button with the pole left extended. That's how it is meant to work, just an extra step I find slightly annoying. Otherwise I am happy with it.
Yolanda Odonnell
The frame appears solid and the fabric seems good.
The open size is listed as roughly 105cm. What matters to me is how much space there is underneath, rather than just how impressive the measurement sounds. I would treat this as comfortable cover for one person, not an umbrella to rely on for two adults. The frame appears solid and the fabric seems good. This is my first umbrella of this type and it has only just arrived, so I can give an initial impression rather than a report on years of use.
Ricky Boone
This one has been a good answer to that.
To my mind, umbrellas fall into two groups: the cheap spare you don't worry about losing, and the one you actually intend to hang onto. Nothing wrong with the first sort. If you just need to get out of the rain and suspect you'll leave it somewhere anyway, spending much doesn't make sense. The other sort should last through more than a handful of uses.
I've worked my way through enough bargain umbrellas that I wanted to put a little more money into one this time. It still needed to go in my backpack, not become another large thing to carry separately. This one has been a good answer to that. It packs away neatly, but doesn't give me that flimsy feeling when I put it up.
One part I particularly appreciate is being able to shut the canopy with a press of the button. You do have to push the telescoping shaft back in yourself afterwards, then wrap everything together and put it away. A pretty straightforward routine once you've done it. Compared with a lot of umbrellas I've had, the whole thing seems more substantial and has stood up to my use nicely.
I still keep a cheap spare in the car door, because there are times when any umbrella will do. Those have their place as backups or for the kids, or whoever needs one. But for something I plan on keeping track of and carrying regularly, I'm glad I chose this one.

For the price I think it's done very well.
Three months of my daughter's wet, blustery walks to grad school in Chicago and it's still doing its job. She says it has coped well even when other umbrellas nearby haven't. All the parts are working as they should, and it feels well put together. For the price I think it's done very well.
Nicole Mullen
I'd happily use it in the rain as well :) Such a nice umbrella.
I wasn't expecting to find the beige umbrella quite so lovely! It was nicer than I imagined, enough to make me leave a review. The fabric feels really good quality and the beige is soft without being too pale. It was a present for my mother and she's very happy with it! It feels like it will last. She's using it for shade and there's room to share underneath. I'd happily use it in the rain as well :) Such a nice umbrella. Now I'm tempted to get another in beige for myself, it would be lovely for sunny days :)
Michelle Burton
easy to fold away afterwards.
we've had plenty of rain lately and managing an umbrella while hanging onto the dog was getting old. This one is much less of a wrestle when the wind picks up & there's enough cover for our long walks. well worth having. I'm on my second one already ( dad decided the first one was his!). feels properly made and the button is handy when I've got the lead in my other hand. easy to fold away afterwards.
Cynthia Henderson
Bought it for my son to take to school and it seems great.
Bought it for my son to take to school and it seems great. We get plenty of wet and windy days here so I hope it lasts well. Opening with the button is quite brisk, surprised me the first time, but it works nicely. Pressing it again closes the canopy; you still have to push the shaft down by hand, which needs a firm push. Everything came neatly packed and in good shape.
Shawn Alvarado
For actual rain outside it's been good as well.
My daughter is nearly 3 and has been using this for around six months. Pandas are her favourite, and she's very fond of this umbrella too. It's had plenty of play indoors, being used for forts and acting as her pretend beach umbrella. For actual rain outside it's been good as well. I do need to give her a hand when it's windy, as she finds it hard to hold then (almost 3 but really more the size of a child who's nearly 2). I'd recommend it.
Gerald King
I Love being able to spot him under it.
First one went to grandson #1 about 18 mos. back, he liked it/ still does. I Love being able to spot him under it. Now buying for grandson #2, just wish the design felt a little more playful for children...Not keen on the plain look myself. But it's nicely made and the first one has been useful, so happy enough to buy again.....
Donna Buckley
But for the rain so far it has been excellent.
I didn't really notice from the photos that it was black underneath as well. Wasn't quite what I had in mind, I was thinking something lighter inside. But for the rain so far it has been excellent. Still haven't had the kind of winds that usually finish my umbrellas off so I can't say too much about that yet. Hopefully it holds up as I like how it looks and it's handy do to the quick opening.
Cathy Noble
The canopy works with a button.
Pleasant appearance. Has quality. The canopy works with a button. Handle comfortable in my hand. Do not expect it to make weather convenient. An umbrella also for mood. First it must keep rain from the owner, then give a little enjoyment. It does both for me. Many ordinary umbrellas are useful, but not every one makes a wet day feel so agreeable.
Alfred Munoz
Around here the rain usually has wind coming with it too.
At 6'8" those tiny umbrellas you can tuck almost anywhere never give me much cover. I end up wet around the waist before I've gone very far. Around here the rain usually has wind coming with it too. This one gives me noticeably more shelter and has felt steady in those conditions. It looks good as well, so I didn't need much persuading to keep it.
Stacey Farmer
He's even given the umbrella a nickname, which made me laugh.
I sent this to my daughters boyfriend for Christmas because he walks to work in NYC. Those streets get pretty blustery, and he says it has kept him well covered on the wet walks. Apparently it was his favourite gift. He's even given the umbrella a nickname, which made me laugh.

THE PLAIN DESIGN LOOKS SMART AND IT HAS A GOOD SOLID FEEL.
WE PICKED THIS OUT AS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR MY MOTHER. SHE IS DELIGHTED WITH IT. THE PLAIN DESIGN LOOKS SMART AND IT HAS A GOOD SOLID FEEL. HAVING A BUTTON TO OPEN IT AND FOLD THE CANOPY IS VERY HANDY. THE CARRY SLEEVE IS USEFUL WHEN IT IS PUT AWAY. I THINK IT IS WELL WORTH WHAT WE PAID. MUM LIKES THE LOOP HANDLE TOO. SHE HAS HAD SOME NICE COMMENTS ON IT. WOULD HAPPILY RECOMEND IT TO SOMEONE WANTING A NICE EVERYDAY UMBRELLA. A REALLY GOOD PRESENT!!!
Dawn Butler
A very useful umbrella.
A very useful umbrella. The loop handle is comfortable to grip and the canopy gives me good coverage when it's raining. It has stayed steady in the breezes I've used it in too. Haven't taken it golfing, but I can see it being handy for that as well. Quite easy to carry around folded. A good buy!
Jermaine Perry
I've been so pleased with mine over the years.
I've been so pleased with mine over the years. It always seems to get a nice comment when I take it out. Someone who kept saying how much he liked it finally got one from me as a present! He was REALLY delighted with it!Happy all round! And it isn't just nice to look at, it does a good job and feels well made. :-) Many thanks.

Rain here seems to bring wind along with it.
Rain here seems to bring wind along with it. And between storms people seem to forget how to drive in it, so I like holding this high enough to keep an eye on traffic. The green is cheerful even when the day isn't. Makes going out in miserable weather a little nicer. Money well spent.
Tristan Larsen
feels solid for a folding umbrella.
Surprised how neatly it fits in my big tote. not something i'd squeeze into a tiny purse though. i had a moment with the button at first, probably me being too cautious, but it opened properly once i pressed it firmly. feels solid for a folding umbrella. getting it back in the sleeve needs a bit of arranging, not really difficult once the fabric is tidy. im happy with how it works. a little longer folded than i pictured from the photos, so check your bag space if that matters to you

The reviews and the price were what persuaded me to try this.
The reviews and the price were what persuaded me to try this. Some of the poorer comments did make me wonder whether I'd regret it, but the one I received feels nicely put together. It opens well, has enough coverage to keep me dry, and doesn't feel flimsy when the weather gets breezy. I've only had ordinary umbrellas before, so the solid feel of this one was a pleasant surprise. For what I paid I'm delighted, and I'd be comfortable recommending it to someone else.
Russell Carson
Joking, obviously, I haven't worked out how to grow the extra hand.
I wanted an umbrella that felt properly made, not something I would be throwing away after the first gust. The flexible ribs on this are reassuring and it has handled my rainy walks well. There is enough space for my partner and me if we stay close, which is useful. It folds up into a manageable size afterwards rather than becoming another long thing to carry. With that decent cover I did wonder whether I could somehow hold it over the grill and cook in the rain. Joking, obviously, I haven't worked out how to grow the extra hand.
Manuel Galloway
Happy to have it and would get another.
I used to get a sun allergy when I was little and figured that was behind me, until it showed up again this summer. Wanted something to take along when I haven't put on enough sunscreen. The gray is lovely and the button does what it should, but getting it folded neatly again is a bit fiddly. I'll probably use a roomier sleeve rather than struggle with this one.Happy to have it and would get another.
Louis Ward
Both feel sturdy.
I ordered a pair for my four year old twins and they were thrilled to have matching umbrellas. They especially like the loop handles and how grown up the umbrellas look. Both feel sturdy. The children can manage the opening button, and I help push the shafts down when we're putting them away. There is much more cover over them than their old little umbrellas gave, which has made rainy walks a lot nicer.

Why does a pink umbrella need a women's label?
Why does a pink umbrella need a women's label? Are we assuming men don't get rained on, or just that they can't enjoy pink? A curious bit of categorising. In practical terms it arrived in good order, opens as it should and looks rather smart. The umbrella itself gets my approval.
Lee House
She really likes it.
My wife wanted more cover than her little travel umbrellas were giving her, so I picked this as a gift. She really likes it. It opens to a useful size but still folds for carrying, and looks smart as well. At the price I paid, I don't think you would easily beat it for both looks and everyday use.
Maria Bartlett
The sleeve is a nice extra too!
Finding a present for someone who already seems to have everything is not easy. I had looked at the usual things in shops before choosing this umbrella. She was delighted with it, and it feels nicely made. The sleeve is a nice extra too! I'm tempted to get another for myself now.

I am far too entertained by this umbrella.
I am far too entertained by this umbrella. Three months in and I still find myself hoping for a bit of rain so I have an excuse to take it along. *cue dramatic entrance music* My girlfriend laughed at how pleased I was with a button and a bit of fabric. There's something satisfying about that instant opening.I did find the sleeve quite a snug fit the first week, especially when I wasn't folding everything neatly. A little patience sorting the folds and it goes back in without a fuss. Haven't felt any need to change anything, just got used to doing it.Overall, it makes wet days a bit more fun and I'm happy with it.

I especially like the oval handle
I'd had enough of flimsy umbrellas and wanted something that felt properly made rather than another one I would soon replace. This has given me that impression from the start. The folded umbrella feels substantial without being a nuisance to carry. I especially like the oval handle; there is room to get a secure grip and it feels comfortable during a longer walk. The button is easy to reach, but I haven't found myself catching it accidentally. One press opens the canopy and another closes it, then you shorten the stem manually to put it away. That routine is simple once you've done it a couple of times. Out in gusty rain it has stayed steady for me, with none of that feeling that the whole thing is about to turn inside out. You do still need to hold on firmly when the wind catches it. It slips into my briefcase without taking over the whole space, so I actually have it along when I need it.A very worthwhile step up!

Looks fine so far, now to see how it wears.
Looks fine so far, now to see how it wears. The gray outside and black underneath look neat together, the size suits me and the button action works properly. I wasn't very impressed by the packaging, though, there wasn't much protection around the umbrella. I would have preferred a box rather than such a basic wrapping for something with a mechanism inside. Fortunately it came through without any marks and everything seems in good order. I still need some rain to give it a proper try. On first impressions I am happy to give five stars.

Lovely looking umbrella with a solid feel--really pleased with it!
Lovely looking umbrella with a solid feel--really pleased with it! My ONLY sizing caution (did I imagine something bigger???) is to check the actual open dimensions before ordering. At roughly 105cm across it gives me comfortable cover, but it is NOT one of those huge canopies for several people. That is a positive for walking, since I am not taking over the pavement every time I pass someone. Folded length is about 40cm, so compact also does not mean pocket sized. It suits me very well, just worth knowing both sizes if you have a particular amount of coverage or bag space in mind.
Pamela Buchanan
These observations concern the gray compact umbrella.
These observations concern the gray compact umbrella. Open width is approximately 105cm and folded length about 40cm. The first figure is the open canopy size, not the length of the umbrella.I find the coverage adequate for one person, although I would not count on keeping two adults completely dry. It is smaller to store than a full-length umbrella, but not what I would call a tiny pocket model. Weight is around 390g. The gray top and black underside look reasonably understated together. The canopy is supported by 30 flexible ribs. I have only used it in ordinary rain, so cannot comment on more demanding conditions. The button both opens the canopy and draws it closed. The telescopic shaft then has to be pushed down manually, which is a separate operation. The closed oval handle is different from a conventional hook handle. A sleeve is included, though the folded length is worth considering if bag space is limited.
Brittany Willis
Open it and there's enough shelter for me.
With the season my football team is having, an umbrella for the fans' feelings might be useful as well. Double figures in the loss column wouldn't surprise me.It's smaller than some I've had, which was exactly what I wanted. Folded up, it goes in my book bag, which was the reason I chose it. Open it and there's enough shelter for me. A second person would have to work pretty hard to stay underneath, and I suspect we'd spend more time tangling our feet than staying dry. ...a fair description of what my team is doing on the field, come to think of it.I'd spend the money on another if this disappeared or got stolen. Being willing to replace something with the same thing says quite a lot.And yes, I do support the team I'm complaining about.

HAPPY CATS, HAPPY ME!!!
Our four indoor "cat~kids" enjoy the deck, but it gets full sun on top even though underneath is enclosed. We made them a grass box from one of those heavy plastic turtle sand boxes. Cute idea, until you notice how hot that spot gets! One of ours is very pale & I worry about the sun on his head. I can sit beside the box and hold this umbrella over their little grassy patch while they enjoy themselves. Just right for that bit of shade, not trying to shade the whole deck. It folds up easily when we head back inside & the price made me smile too. I wouldn't leave it outside in a storm, of course. HAPPY CATS, HAPPY ME!!! SUCH A USEFUL FIND!!!

I had wondered about that oval loop handle.
An unfortunate subway encounter finished off my previous umbrella: somebody trod on it, then disappeared through the doors without even acknowledging it. That left me hunting for a replacement. After looking around and reading what people thought, I settled on this pink one. First impression was that it felt reassuringly solid, rather than like something I'd be replacing after a few wet outings. Opening it with the button is convenient, too. My one small grumble is that it takes a little more room in my bag than the really tiny umbrellas, but I'd choose the more substantial feel anyway. I had wondered about that oval loop handle. In person it's comfortable and doesn't strike me as flimsy at all. Obviously I wouldn't start smacking it against things to prove a point...it's meant for a walk in the rain, not a duel. =) The pink does attract attention, which I happen to enjoy. I've already had a few conversations that started with someone asking about it. If being left completely alone on public transport is your main priority, a noticeable umbrella probably isn't the best plan...but if you don't mind a little chat while waiting for your stop, that's another reason to enjoy carrying it. Mostly, though, I'm just glad to have a sturdy umbrella again.
Jillian Odom
I like the solid feel of the loop handle too.
A favourite with my kids. Keeps the rain off, wipes clean with a damp cloth and still looks cute after being carried about. I like the solid feel of the loop handle too. We've had children's rain gear since they were little and this has been a nice addition. LOVE IT

The blue Haven umbrella is a practical option for everyday rain.
The blue Haven umbrella is a practical option for everyday rain. I am not using it for golf, just ordinary trips out, and find the coverage very useful. The frame has 30 flexible ribs and feels substantial without making the umbrella awkward to carry. Automatic opening means it can be put up with one hand. Pressing the button again folds the canopy; the telescoping stem is then compressed manually before storage. This unbrella gives comfortable coverage for one adult, with some room for a bag. Approximate measurements are:- 105cm across when open- 40cm when folded- weight 390g. The oval loop grip and supplied sleeve make it convenient to carry between uses. There is also a black underside to the canopy. Overall I am glad to have this and would recommend it to anyone wanting a compact umbrella for daily use. Thank you for taking the time to read my comments.

Two boys here, neither of them particularly gentle with anything.
Two boys here, neither of them particularly gentle with anything. Umbrellas usually don't last long in their hands, so I was a little doubtful about letting these go to school. During a proper downpour I gave in. Both came home working and the boys were dry, which is what I needed. The flexible supports seem to cope better with the everyday knocking about. They also think a folded umbrella makes a good walking stick, which I keep telling them it doesn't. It isn't something I'd call childproof, and I still keep an eye on how they use them, but so far these still open properly and keep the water off.

My three year old son is delighted with this umbrella.
My three year old son is delighted with this umbrella. I bought it for our wet walks, and he likes feeling he has his own proper one. As an elementary teacher and mum to two boys, I'm familiar with the muddle rain can cause. Folded up, this is manageable to bring along with us. I deal with pushing the shaft back down afterwards, while he's fascinated by the button. The canopy gives him plenty of cover when we're out together.

Good experience.
I placed the order on tuesday night and the umbrellas were here on Friday, ready for our Wedding on saturday. We had rain to think about and I was relieved to have this part sorted out beforehand. The blue is a nice colour and everything feels well put together. Just what we needed to have ready for the day. I appreciate a purchase that turns out straightforward instead of giving you another thing to worry about. Good experience. We are all set now. If i'm ever needing more umbrellas I would be happy to choose these again.
