When I was asked what I thought of this umbrella, my first reaction was that there probably wasn't very much to say. It opens, it keeps rain off, and that should be about it. After using it, though, I can understand why some umbrellas deserve a little more attention. This one has been a particularly pleasant surprise.
First, it folds down to a sensible size for carrying, rather than leaving me with a long umbrella to find somewhere for. At roughly 40cm folded, it isn't the smallest umbrella imaginable, but it is manageable. The sleeve comes off easily and, just as importantly, isn't a struggle to replace afterwards. Pressing the button brings the umbrella up without having to fiddle underneath it.
Once opened, the amount of coverage is better than I expected from the folded size. There is room to keep my shoulders covered without carefully positioning everything. It has some substance to it, but I don't find it tiring to hold. The oval loop handle is also comfortable in my hand.
The framework is worth looking at. There are 30 flexible ribs supporting the canopy, and the whole thing seems more substantial than the flimsy umbrellas I have been disappointed by before. Obviously appearance alone doesn't establish how long something will last. I hadn't tried it in particularly windy weather when I first wrote this, so I wasn't going to make grand claims about storms.
Putting it away is straightforward too. A second button press closes the canopy, and I compress the telescoping shaft manually. Once rolled up, it goes into its sleeve without a wrestling match. That may sound a small thing, but it matters when you actually carry an umbrella regularly.
For me, this is a useful balance between coverage and a convenient folded size.
Update: It has now been out in breezy rain. The canopy held its shape, I stayed dry, and handling it wasn't the battle I had half expected. Still thoroughly satisfied with it!

Coverage is fine for me (no, it isn't my enormous golf umbrella!
My list wasn't very complicated: 1/ a button to pop it open, 2/ enough cover to be useful, 3/ folded size that would go in my everyday purses, and 4/ a colour other than my boring usual choice. This one ticks those boxes. The green makes a nice change and I especially appreciate the button when a shower starts without warning. It goes in most of my bags, although you do know you're carrying it. Coverage is fine for me (no, it isn't my enormous golf umbrella! Just being realistic about the size.) I may get another colour so I can leave one in another bag.

It folds up too, which is handy ..
Handsome umbrella. Enough space for me and the dog on our walks! Feels like a proper, WELL made umbrella. I was sure my old one had gone missing, then found it after this arrived. No harm having two, but this one gets picked first! It folds up too, which is handy .. the BEST part is that roomy canopy ;)

The flexible ribs seem to cope well when the wind catches the canopy.
Looks smart and feels good in my hand, and using it is straightforward. I've walked down the street in wind and rain with it and stayed dry, without the constant tugging about I've had with flimsier umbrellas. The flexible ribs seem to cope well when the wind catches the canopy. I'm delighted with how it's performed. No hesitation recommending this!

Only had this a short time, but first impressions are good.
Only had this a short time, but first impressions are good. It folds neatly and doesn't feel flimsy in the hand. It's managed the gusts I've been out in so far, which matters where I live.I did think the price was a little high, but the construction makes it seem a reasonable buy. The real test will be using it through the changing seasons. For now, I'd recommend it to anyone fed up with flimsy umbrellas.

Mine's had two years of constant use and I'm ordering another.
Mine's had two years of constant use and I'm ordering another. We walk everywhere in NYC, which means rain isn't something you can just wait out- you still have to get places. The size is just right for me. It goes into my work bag, yet gives me proper coverage when I'm outside. It has coped well with wet, windy walks too. That push button opening is a big help when I'm heading out with everything else I'm carrying.

For keeping the rain off, I can't complain .
For keeping the rain off, I can't complain . . . using it just for sun is another matter. Yes, the beige canopy with its black underside gives shade. But shade isn't air conditioning, is it??? I still felt hot under there, and having to hold an umbrella the whole time didn't improve my mood. Maybe I expected too much . . . I wanted a noticeable change in comfort, not just less sunlight on my face. The build feels good and it handles ordinary rain nicely, so three stars for that. For me it's a rain umbrella that can provide shade, rather than something I'd take out specially on a hot day. Paying for both uses when I mostly appreciate one wasn't my cleverest purchase.
Janet Terry
Really pleased with this one!
I wanted an umbrella that could handle a wet, blustery walk without turning into a wrestling match. Chicago has no shortage of those days, as anyone who's walked around here knows. My sister covers a few blocks getting to work and now asks to borrow mine whenever rain is forecast. This feels like a really solid umbrella, and the canopy has stayed the right way round in the gusts we've encountered. You still have to keep hold of it, obviously, but I haven't found myself fighting to straighten it out halfway down the street. There's also a sleeve included, which is useful for keeping it tidy between uses. It's getting borrowed often enough that I may have to hide it. Really pleased with this one!

Seems like a decent, solid everyday umbrella in cream white.
Only arrived today so this is more of a first look than a rain test. Seems like a decent, solid everyday umbrella in cream white. The oval handle gives you something proper to grip. there's a button for opening it and another press gathers the canopy, then I press the telescoping sections together. Opened out it looks roomy enough to cover a child playing outside, without being a huge umbrella to store. The price seemed fair. I'll add more here if anything changes once it's been out in the rain.

Good umbrellas and a pleasant experience all round.
Our facility has two buildings with about 100 yards between them. Staff are going back and forth in all kinds of weather, so I needed something reasonably priced to leave handy. I hadn't expected much for the money but these feel surprisingly substantial. The button opening is useful when you're heading out with things in your hands. I did have a small delivery query and got a helpful answer very quickly . Turned out we had muddled things up at our end, not theirs. No fuss about it either, which I appreciated.I would happily recommend these for the same sort of use. Good umbrellas and a pleasant experience all round. 5 STARS

Good price and it takes care of what I needed.
Arthritis makes my hands awkward with things that should be simple, including umbrellas. I specifically wanted one that would open at a button press, and this has made that part much easier. The button shuts the canopy too; I just press the shaft down afterwards. Good price and it takes care of what I needed.
Timothy Mosley
The handle is the part I'm less sold on.
Initial thoughts: The button for opening it and drawing the canopy shut is genuinely useful. You still have to push the shaft back down by hand afterwards, then put it away. (Apparently umbrellas still expect us to do a little of the work!) Once collapsed, it is a tidy size to put in a bag, which was what I wanted. The fabric feels substantial without making the whole thing cumbersome. The handle is the part I'm less sold on. That oval shape feels a bit bulky in my hand, although it's perfectly usable. I got this after losing my previous umbrella, so being able to pack it away mattered more to me this time. It doesn't have the traditional appearance of a full length umbrella with a wooden grip, but I knew that going in. For me the convenience wins out overall. It's a reasonable balance of price, ease of use and portability.

Overall I am thinking it was a very good buy....
Finally a strong feeling umbrella after looking around for one for ages. It opens out well and give me plenty cover, have already carried it when the rain was coming down heavy and my clothes stayed dry. The push button works nicely too, quick to open and collapse the canopy. Overall I am thinking it was a very good buy....

Funny how even an umbrella gets opinions.
I like this umbrella BUT I hadn't expected people to notice it. I picked the blue without giving it much thought...got a couple of nice comments and one less kind one. Funny how even an umbrella gets opinions. It gives me plenty of cover and has been fine in normal rain. I would be careful in strong gusts, but for everyday use I'm glad I chose it.

The two I bought for my granddaughters were met with great excitement.
The two I bought for my granddaughters were met with great excitement. They keep wanting to try them out. These are proper umbrellas rather than toys, and they feel well made. I was concerned about little fingers with the opening mechanism, so I help them use it and there haven't been any pinches. Lovely for playing dress up, but useful for an actual rainy day as well.
Wayne Hines
Opened out, there's a good amount of coverage for one person.
After losing the folding umbrella I'd been given, I wanted a replacement that felt dependable without costing too much. Folding was important, because I keep it in my backpack and prefer having my hands free when I'm not using it. I also wanted a frame that didn't feel flimsy when a breeze came along. This one ticks those boxes. The fabric looks nice and the water beads on it well. It's solid without being a nuisance to carry, and I find the loop handle comfortable. At about 40cm packed away, it goes in my backpack or briefcase without trouble. Opened out, there's a good amount of coverage for one person. In short, it has the everyday practicality I wanted at a price I was comfortable paying.

Glad to have the familiar umbrella back.
I got about five years out of my last one before losing it, so replacing it with another of these wasn't a difficult decision. It still looked respectable, too. Most of my umbrella use is on city streets, with those annoying gusts between tall buildings, and it's been a dependable umbrella to carry around there. What struck me with the replacement was how easily the water comes off with a few shakes. I'd forgotten my older one did that so well at first. It became less noticeable over time, but that never made the umbrella unusable; I just left it out of the sleeve for a while to dry. I'll probably keep doing that with this one rather than putting it away wet, even if it looks nearly dry after shaking. It's a nice convenience when new, not something I'd expect to stay exactly the same forever. Glad to have the familiar umbrella back.
Reginald Tanner
This has been a good compromise.
I wanted something that gave decent cover on wet days with the kids, without carrying a huge umbrella everywhere. This has been a good compromise. There is room to tuck a child beside me, and it folds away when we don't need it. Being able to take it along for shade too makes the price seem even better. It's useful beyond just the rainy part of the year.
Jeremy Humphrey
For ordinary rain, though, it's been very good.
I would describe it as useful shade rather than make any claims about sun protection. I couldn't find a stated UV rating, so I don't want to assume that a black umbrella automatically provides a particular level of protection. For ordinary rain, though, it's been very good. The opening button works neatly, the handle feels secure, and the sleeve is handy when packing it away. My only reservation is that I wanted more specific information for using it in the sun.
Gerald Hurley
Really love the shape!
Couldn't wait to see this in person- and it didn't disappoint!Feels much nicer than I thought from the pictures.People keep commenting when I take it out!Really love the shape! The handle finish could be a touch neater, but I can't grumble for what I paid!Almost makes me hope for a rainy day so I can carry it again :)
Ian Morrison
That's the only disappointment so far.
The picture gave me a different idea of the shade, even though the description did clearly say beige. That's the only disappointment so far. It has been fine in the rainy, breezy weather here, and feels much more substantial than the cheap umbrellas I usually end up with. A little bulky when folded, so not something I'd squeeze into a tiny bag. Still, there's enough cover to keep the sideways rain off me if I angle it into the weather.
Julie Hull

Ideal for life in NYC.
Ideal for life in NYC. When I'm rushing down to the subway there's NO messing about with wet fabric. One press folds the canopy, so I can get inside quickly and shorten the shaft afterwards. EASY. It isn't a burden in my purse either, which means I actually carry it instead of being caught out and running through the rain!
Brandon Ray
Its lovely without needing a busy design.
Losing an umbrella I'd kept for years bothered me more than I expected. It had been a favourite and I spent ages looking for something I would enjoy carrying as much. This pink one finally appealed to me. Its lovely without needing a busy design. I took it along for the annual charity dog walk, which matters to me as a dog lover, and it turned out to be a very warm day. Instead of waiting for rain I used it for a patch of shade while we walked. It was useful the whole way round. A happy replacement for something I was rather attached to.
Roy Riley
The cream white is nice looking.
The button needs more of a push than I expected, so using it while my other hand has a tea from the cafe is not quite as effortless as I pictured. Once pressed it opens fine. Closing the canopy is by the button too, but you still have to push the telescoping part down yourself, it doesn't do that bit for you. Not a fault, just something to know. It has a sleeve to put it in, looks a bit like dressing the umbrella in its own condom. The cream white is nice looking. I wasn't sure about the oval loop at first, being used to a wrist strap, but I like holding it. I can curl a couple of fingers through the closed loop instead of making a tight fist, so my hand doesn't get so tired. It feals solid, and the canopy covers me fine. The pushing down part is more work than I'd like for everyday use. Still, there is a lot I like about it for the cost. Finding an unbrella that suits everything is not easy.
Randy Brennan
i thought the low price might mean a flimsy umbrella.
For my husband's birthday I picked this up and he was delighted. i thought the low price might mean a flimsy umbrella. couldn't have been more wrong! It feels solid and there's room for us both standing close. now he's actually hoping for a rainy day to try it out.
Alec Richardson
The younger one has had a turn with it too..
The finish and the grip on this umbrella are both nicer than I expected. Pressing a button to open it is handy, and the canopy also folds with a press. We did have to figure out that shortening the telescoping section is still a manual job. It was a present for a 12 year old and now goes in the school backpack every day. Only a week of use so this is an early opinion, but there have been no problems. I was particularly interested in whether it would be manageable for a child, rather than just look good. The younger one has had a turn with it too.. I still prefer to help with packing it away. For the school routine it has been a good choice, and the comfortable handle is a definite plus.
Misty Lambert
Bought it for my dad's vacation.
Bought it for my dad's vacation. He straddles the thing as though he's riding a horse. Finding the right place to hold it needed a little practice, then he thought it was brilliant. I'd still like something lighter for everyday carrying, but this one has been a success.
Edward Werner
It felt sturdy in use and was easy to carry when the rain stopped...
Bought it after our old golf umbrella finally wore out. Wanted something my wife and I could use while walking together, but easier to pack. I hadn't realised how useful the shorter folded length would be until we put it in the suitcase for Italy. No long umbrella to work around in the luggage. We used it wandering through Rome in the rain and it made those walks much nicer. We did have to stay close to share the cover, which wasn't a hardship on holiday. It felt sturdy in use and was easy to carry when the rain stopped...a much better way to spend the day than worrying about getting soaked.
Sheila Newton
The oval loop handle is a useful detail.
The fabric has a simple, classic appearance, and the folded umbrella goes neatly into its slip-on sleeve. The oval loop handle is a useful detail. It operates smoothly and feels suitable for everyday use - the automatic opening is particularly welcome. I purchased a pair, keeping one and giving the other away. A modestly priced practical treat.
Lee Tate
you push that back in yourself as the final step.
I was looking for a button to do the opening - and the closing - and this mostly suits me. The canopy opens straight away, and another press folds it in. What it doesn't do is shorten the telescoping shaft; you push that back in yourself as the final step. Fair enough, but it takes more effort than pressing a button. Getting the fabric wrapped neatly and back into the sleeve also needs both hands. If your grip isn't what it used to be, that is worth bearing in mind. Otherwise it feels like a well made umbrella, and I think the price is reasonable.
Margaret Martinez
I think this is a really nice umbrella.
I think this is a really nice umbrella. Feels solid and should last me a good while. The sleeve is a bit tight so getting it put away is kinda fiddly, but that's the only little thing. Rest of it is good and I like the unusual handle, gives it a bit of character
Sharon Greene
I have this umbrella for nearly one year now and it has given me…
I have this umbrella for nearly one year now and it has given me no trouble. The beige is a quiet colour which I find nice rather than something very bright. For a small handbag it is still rather large, but when opened it feels stable and has been good in the wind I have used it in.
Edwin Mercado
This one has stayed steady for me in the rain.
I used to have a big golf umbrella, but after that San Francisco storm I wanted something different. This one has stayed steady for me in the rain. Held a little higher I can watch where I'm walking, with decent shelter overhead too.No regrets about choosing this!

Getting outside with the baby matters to me...
Getting outside with the baby matters to me...but I don't enjoy the sun right on my head. This gives me my own patch of shade while we're out with the stroller!!! Some fresh air is needed for my sanity!! I feel noticeably more comfortable underneath it than walking without any shade..and it folds away between walks which is handy..not the tiniest thing to carry along and I did hesitate over the cost, but I'm glad I got it...makes getting outdoors that much nicer. It has become something I actually want to bring along.
Tommy Greer
Makes carrying an umbrella along seem less of a nuisance.
I've never put this much money into an umbrella before, but so far I'm glad I did!The button is my favourite part. I knew it opened automatically, didn't know it could draw the canopy shut too...you just push the pole down afterwards. I've even had compliments on how it looks, and it slips into my bigger purse when the weather looks doubtful. My previous compact umbrellas have always felt rather flimsy, so the solid feel of this one has been a nice surprise. Makes carrying an umbrella along seem less of a nuisance.
Norman Rivers
It's just a lot more umbrella than I wanted!
Well, buying an umbrella without seeing it first- I put it up and thought this is *huge*. Umbrella sizing isn't something I know much about, so I'd assumed this would be a sensible size for the walk to work and back. It's just a lot more umbrella than I wanted!
Kent Bender
Nearly everything I wanted here.
Nearly everything I wanted here. It packs away, looks decent and the button will open it AND draw the canopy closed. You still compress the telescopic section yourself. It dries reasonably quickly and seems sturdy, although I wouldn't choose it for really wild wind. Which is a nuisance when rain and wind come together. Still, it's plain and 'masculine enough' that I actually remember to bring it... quite an achievement for me.
Vernon Gilbert
Taking this black umbrella out of its packaging was a promising start.
Rain is the whole reason I carry an umbrella, so staying dry matters a lot more to me than having something fancy. There are plenty of cheap ones around, and I've been that person who grabs one without thinking much about it. Then a windy day comes along and suddenly the bargain doesn't seem quite so clever.
So why spend more? For me, it comes down to whether it feels properly made and whether I can trust it when I actually need it. Taking this black umbrella out of its packaging was a promising start. The fabric looked neatly finished, the frame felt substantial and nothing about it seemed like an afterthought. That's nice, but looking good indoors isn't much of a test. I wanted to see how it behaved outside before deciding I'd made a good purchase.
Folded up, it goes into my commuter bag without taking over the whole thing. It isn't weightless, obviously, but I don't find myself leaving it behind because it's a nuisance to carry. Slip the sleeve off, touch the button, and it opens with a surprisingly satisfying snap. No standing there wrestling with it while the rain gets heavier.
Looking underneath, there's quite a network of ribs supporting the canopy. They have some give rather than feeling completely rigid, which made me curious about how it would cope with a bit of wind. The first wet, blustery walk to the station answered that better than inspecting it at home ever could. I could feel the wind pushing against it, but it held its shape and kept the rain off me. I reached the station dry, with an umbrella I could fold away and use again. Not a dramatic achievement perhaps, but that's exactly what I needed.
Would I choose it again? Absolutely. The solid feel isn't just for show, and having it in my bag is one less thing to worry about when the weather turns.
Natasha Collier
An umbrella was needed for my daughter while she's at university.
An umbrella was needed for my daughter while she's at university. The small one she had before cost plenty but didn't cope with a windy day on campus. We tried this one and she's delighted with it. Easy enough to carry between classes and it's been doing well through wet, blustery days. Thanks for a decent umbrella
Mitchell Brooks
A full year of use now and it's still in very good shape.
A full year of use now and it's still in very good shape. It's dealt with the wet, blustery days around Boston nicely, with no obvious wear that I can see. The cream white looks charming too, and people do notice it. I wanted something dependable rather than just pretty, and I've got both. When this one eventually needs replacing I'd be happy to choose the same again.
Rachael Shaffer
So far this has suited me well.
I walk to work in Chicago and wanted something manageable to carry that still felt sturdy on windy days. So far this has suited me well. The loop handle is comfortable to hold and the construction looks solid, hopefully it will give me years of use. My only little wish is that it packed down slightly shorter, as it sits a bit awkwardly in my backpack.
Meredith Pittman
It comes with a sleeve too, handy for putting it away once dry.
Easily my favourite of the umbrellas I have. The construction feels thought through, with a firm stem and fabric that sheds rain well. There are plenty of flexible ribs supporting the canopy so it doesn't feel flimsy. I like the closed loop on the handle, a different shape from the usual grip. It comes with a sleeve too, handy for putting it away once dry.I'm very happy with it and would certainly look at these again.
Mario Reilly
I REALLY LIKE THIS ONE.
I REALLY LIKE THIS ONE. It feels solid in my hands, not flimsy like I worried it might. My only little gripe is the black underside, which I hadn't paid attention to before buying. Once it's open I barely think about that anyway. The pink is just lovely and the whole thing is so so cute!!
Gregory Ball
Rain never seems to fall straight down for me.
Rain never seems to fall straight down for me. I end up tipping my umbrella into it, then trying to see past the edge without getting wet. The gray canopy on this one gives me a useful amount of cover, so I don't have to huddle right up underneath it! Still need to angle it sensibly, but it works well for my walks. This is my second, the first came as a gift. An umbrella is a useful present! Let it rain
Charlotte Kline
The beige looks nice too.
I prefer an umbrella I can manage easily (especially with my preschool-aged sons in tow), so the button opening appealed to me. The beige looks nice too. I wasn't expecting it to feel this substantial -- it has coped well with our usual use. Useful when you've already got your hands full with kids!
Rhonda Mendez
Overall, a good umbrella that I'm quite happy to be seen with.
Good cover from the rain and something I actually like carrying. It seems less inclined to turn inside out than other small umbrellas I've had, and there's a reassuring feel to the handle. The button makes it that much handier. Overall, a good umbrella that I'm quite happy to be seen with. :-)
Mark Little
Happy to recommend it!
Dear umbrella shoppers,I thought I would add my experience after reading so many different opinions! What matters to me is whether an umbrella feels dependable when I actually need it, rather than how impressive it sounds on paper. This one has made a very good impression. The frame feels substantial, the opening action is quick, and I have stayed comfortably dry during my walks in the rain. A breeze has not had me wrestling with it, either! I would not pretend any handheld umbrella can take on every sort of weather, but for normal use I am thoroughly pleased. It is rather nice to be walking along calmly instead of fighting with an umbrella above your head! Happy to recommend it!Best wishes

This has done the job beautifully.
Friends, allow a desert resident one small celebration: an umbrella worth owning! In Arizona I can forget rain exists, right up until I need something over my head. So I wanted a sensible compromise, not some giant contraption that spends its life taking up space. Something that feels sturdy, folds away for the long dry stretches, comes out for the winter drizzle, and can provide a little shade when the summer sun is being thoroughly unreasonable. Also, a price that didn't make me question why a desert dweller was buying an umbrella at all. This has done the job beautifully. About 105cm of canopy is plenty for me, or two people willing to abandon their ideas about personal space (;
Sarah Gallegos
Two things worth mentioning.
Living in Arizona, I have about a twenty minute walk to work, and shade makes a real difference on that walk. I've been taking this umbrella most days and it's doing what I wanted. It feels less hot underneath it than having the sun directly on me, especially when the morning is already warming up. I'm fair skinned, so keeping direct sunshine off my face and shoulders matters to me, and having shade along the whole walk has been very welcome. Two things worth mentioning. (1) This isn't the smallest folding umbrella. It fits my work bag but takes up some room, and getting all the fabric straight enough for the sleeve is more fiddly than I'd like. (2) Closing takes a little effort. The button gathers the canopy, but you still have to compress the telescoping pole by hand. It works fine, just isn't a completely hands free process like I first pictured. For daily shade I'm happy to carry it despite those points. It's also useful if rain turns up, so I don't need a separate umbrella for that. I can't say anything about years of use yet, but so far it's been worth having.
