Exactly the sort of umbrella I needed! I spend a lot of time walking outside, so being able to pack it into my bag matters. This folds down neatly but doesn't feel flimsy when it's up. Easy to operate and it has handled regular outings well. I'd certainly say it's worth a look.

An umbrella was part of my mother's Mother's Day present this year.
An umbrella was part of my mother's Mother's Day present this year. She had been taking mine whenever she needed to go out in the rain, which I didn't have a problem with. But it seemed a good opportunity to get her one of her own again. I wanted to include something practical that wouldn't just be enjoyed on the day and then put away. An umbrella gets used at different times all through the year.
There were always umbrellas around our house growing up, and the ones that lasted were the ones everybody reached for. My own has been with me for about ten years now. I tend to expect quite a lot of use from one (two years doesn't seem very long to me, although I suppose that depends how much rain you get). Obviously I can't say how long this new one will last, but I liked it when I took it out to look at it.
My mother likes black so that was the colour I chose. It looks smart without being too much. She was delighted when she opened it, and the weather has given her plenty of opportunity to try it during the past week. Yesterday she was telling me again how pleased she is with it. She particularly likes pressing the button to open it rather than having to push the canopy up herself.
My aunt noticed it when we had family over for Mother's Day. She thought it was very elegant and asked if I would get one for her as well. I went ahead and bought a second one. That parcel was waiting outside when we opened the door to my aunt on her next visit. I hadn't looked to see whether it had arrived, with it being the weekend, so that was a nice surprise.
Both purchases have worked out nicely. My mother has something useful that she enjoys carrying, my aunt liked hers too, and I get to keep my own umbrella handy again. Five stars from me.

A solid umbrella that I'm sticking with.
A solid umbrella that I'm sticking with. This is number two for me (the first got left on a train), and I'd choose it again without hesitating. It has kept my head and shoulders dry and handled the breezy rain I've used it in. No turning inside out so far, which is what I wanted.
Manuel Rich
This umbrella really impressed me.
Wonderful! This umbrella really impressed me. The finishing is so neat, the cloth is substantial but soft under your fingers, and it feels like something I'd normally expect to pay much more for. The stitching is tidy throughout and the flexible ribs give it a sturdy feel. It opens briskly, then the button brings the canopy together before I reset the shaft by hand. Held pointing down, it's easy to shake the water off, and it stays neatly gathered afterwards. The loop handle feels secure in my hand, and having a carabiner built into it for attaching to trouser loops, backpacks, bags...such a clever touch. I liked this so much I'm thinking of getting at least two more. Really, really pleased with it! Definitely recommended.

It fits my large handbag comfortably.
Umbrellas are one of those things I enjoy, and this one looks smart without being fussy. The button for collapsing the canopy needs a deliberate press, which took me a couple of goes to get used to, but it works fine. Most of my use is in rain, although I can see it being handy for shade as well. It fits my large handbag comfortably. I wouldn't expect it to fit a little evening bag, so do check the folded length if space is tight.

A lovely umbrella, and it feels capable of doing what I need.
A lovely umbrella, and it feels capable of doing what I need. It's coming to Asia with me, mainly to use for shade rather than wet weather. My one hesitation is the weight; for carrying around all day I'd prefer something lighter. Still, the coverage and overall feel make me very happy with it. Everything else is spot on!

Worth every penny to me!!!
Still loving how this umbrella performs, and it looks so smart in cream white too. It has been dependable whenever I've needed it and feels much tougher than the ones I used to keep replacing. I was forever buying another umbrella, twice a year sometimes, so it's nice having one I'm happy to hang onto.... Handles rainy days beautifully. Worth every penny to me!!! Many thanks!!

The oval handle helps with that.
I wanted an umbrella I could pick out easily, something I might actually manage not to lose. The oval handle helps with that. I read compact and imagined a really tiny thing of course that was my assumption rather than checking properly. It folds up but takes more room in my bag than I expected, not that I mind much now. It does a good job when its raining and if I see wet weather before leaving home this is what I reach for rather than relying on my coat to keep me dry.
Judy Suarez
I like the way it looks too, not too fussy.
The nuisance with umbrellas in New York is how much attention you have to pay to everyone else's. I'm forever lifting mine or angling it away from somebody coming the other way, and you can forget looking around if you've pulled it too far down. I received this for Christmas and finally had a rainy day to try it. It's a useful size for walking through a crowd without feeling as though I'm carrying half a tent. I could hold it high enough to see ahead and still keep the rain off. Obviously you still have to mind where the edges are, but it wasn't a battle. The button was handy when I reached a doorway and needed to get it out of the way. I like the way it looks too, not too fussy. If you're choosing a gift for someone who does a lot of city walking, I'd be happy to suggest it. Too soon to say about years of use, but that first outing went very well.

The umbrella has a good finish and feels substantial in the hand.
After ordering mine, I collected it at the post office. The umbrella has a good finish and feels substantial in the hand. I like having a button for opening and collapsing the canopy, and the oval handle is comfortable. Overall, I am satisfied, though the cream white looked slightly more appealing in the photo.
Sherry Haley
Is that enough to make it a bad umbrella?
4 stars. (Updates below, and a fairly long explanation of why I landed there). On first using this umbrella I thought the size was just about right. Enough shade without feeling as though I was carrying something meant to cover a table. The gray is fairly quiet looking, which suits me, and opening it was straightforward. My reservation came when I went to put it away. I had expected the button to do absolutely everything, right down to making the umbrella short again. That isn't how it operates, and it took me a little while to get that straight.
The button folds the canopy, but the telescoping section still needs to be compressed manually. Nothing had stopped working. I simply hadn't understood the last step. Still, when you are getting into a car or going through a shop doorway, that extra action is worth knowing about beforehand. I don't find it especially difficult, but I do need to pay attention rather than assume one press leaves the whole umbrella ready to put away. Is that enough to make it a bad umbrella? No. Is it quite the completely automatic arrangement I had pictured? Also no.
At that stage I was somewhere between liking it and being irritated with my own expectations. The shade was good, the open size suited me, and it wasn't particularly heavy to hold. Those were the reasons I wanted an umbrella like this in the first place. I wasn't going to overlook all of that because putting it away required another movement. But I also wasn't ready to call it perfect just because it looked decent and opened nicely. Four stars seemed fair, with a little more use needed before saying much about how well it would last.
UPDATE: Much less fuss now that I know what I'm doing. The closing routine has become familiar, and I no longer stand there expecting the button to shorten the handle section too. I still take a moment over it rather than forcing things in a hurry. That is just how I prefer to handle it, not because anything is sticking. Opening and folding the canopy have been consistent. It gives me the shade I wanted, feels reasonably substantial, and the folded size is manageable, although not tiny. So yes, my opinion is positive, with that original reservation about the extra closing step. Still a four-star umbrella for me.
UPDATE #2: More than a year of use now, and my rating hasn't changed. It continues to open properly and makes sunny days easier to deal with. I tend to secure it with the strap before leaving it on the back seat, rather than throwing it down with the fabric loose. That keeps it reasonably tidy and ready for next time. I haven't found any reason to be rough with it or rush the closing process. For what I wanted, portable shade that doesn't take up the whole car, it has done its job. I'd consider another when this one eventually needs replacing.

I would still recommend it as a useful, attractive umbrella.
This was bought for a gift, and I spent a while trying to work out the pink from the pictures. I thought it would be a softer shade than it turned out to be. That's really the reason for four stars, as a few more useful photographs would have helped me know what I was choosing. Having said that, the actual umbrella made a much better impression than I expected. The frame feels substantial rather than flimsy, and the oval loop handle is a nice change from the usual shapes. It is closed all the way round and comfortable to hold. I also liked how quickly it opened with the button, without needing to fuss with a catch. The black inside gives quite a contrast to the pink outside, which looks smart even though the colour wasn't exactly what I had pictured. I would still recommend it as a useful, attractive umbrella. Most importantly, the person it was for was delighted with it.

I'm small and the size suits me.
Usually umbrellas annoy me because a bit of wind sends them inside out. This one has been a pleasant change! Looked a little delicate at first but has done fine so far. I'm small and the size suits me. Easy enough to carry, and I like its sleeve. Sensible umbrella, not a huge thing to wrestle with.
Gwendolyn Malone
My spouse gave me this and I've been really happy to have it!
My spouse gave me this and I've been really happy to have it! Since moving from Texas to Oregon, I was definitely in need of something to keep my dry on the way to the office. It fits in a purse or backpack easily, a quick shake gets the water off, and the button opening is a big help. Having to stand there getting rained on while you wrestle an umbrella open is no fun at all. That hasn't been a problem with this one.The sleeve that comes with it, though, doesn't get much use from me. Getting the umbrella tucked back inside is awkward, and when I need it every day I don't want to spend time messing with that. So far it's stayed the right way round even in the wind, which makes me think the construction is pretty sturdy. I've really appreciated having it around and would recommend it to anyone needing an umbrella for keeping dry.
Jon Best
No battling with it just to get out of the rain.
For me, a good umbrella is one I can leave in the backpack and not worry about. This does that job. It opens when I need it, feels solid in my hand, and looks sensible rather than fussy. No battling with it just to get out of the rain. That kind of straightforward usefulness is exactly what I wanted. Easy five stars.
Gabriela Hansen
Its easy to manage, the handle suits me.
I actually carry this! Southwest louisiana is hot enough in the morning, and waiting for public transport in it is no joke. Rain wasn't my only reason for getting an umbrella, I wanted shade too.The beige looks pretty and the canopy gives me a decent patch of shade. Its easy to manage, the handle suits me. Yes theres a little weight, but with my lunch, a drink, papers for work...its hardly the big issue people make it. I use the sleeve when its put away. Haven't given it a proper storm test yet, so that part can wait.I've had people say how nice it looks! Quite elegant really.
Allen Costa
Does the job well and feels nicely made.
Does the job well and feels nicely made. Mine gets used every couple of weeks at least, and I don't mind having it along even though it isn't the smallest folded umbrella. I wear a backpack to work and the coverage helps keep that dry too, not only my head. The sleeve slides on without much trouble and keeps everything together in my bag. Very happy with it so far.
Nicole Rodgers
The simple style is nice enough for an occasion like that.
We saw an umbrella being used at a wedding and thought one would be sensible for our future daughter-in-law. Thankfully the weather stayed fine, so ours wasn't needed. The simple style is nice enough for an occasion like that. It is a handy size, and the loop handle feels substantial rather than flimsy. We'll keep it for other occasions when the forecast is uncertain. Nice to have something that can keep you dry without being a huge thing to bring along.
Mackenzie Estrada
Rain or sunshine, it gets used.
Having very fair skin in Hawaii, I keep sunscreen in my routine and usually take a small umbrella along as well. Rain or sunshine, it gets used. I decided it was worth spending a little more on one I would actually want to carry, and this has been a good choice. It has a bit more heft than the tiniest compact umbrellas, but I don't mind that once I'm standing in its shade. The black underside makes the view above me pleasantly dark rather than bright. I still use sunscreen, of course, and don't consider an umbrella a substitute for it. A little breeze hasn't made it difficult to hold either, though I do keep a firm grip when the wind picks up.
Carol Cox
If only it were quite that powerful.
I wasn't expecting it to turn a blistering day into winter (would be a nice trick, though). It does make standing in the sunshine more bearable, just not some miraculous chilly bubble. Having shade above my head is definitely better than being directly in it. I won't pretend to know how many degrees different it feels -- only that I notice the relief. Apparently carrying your own shade looks wonderfully *cool* to everyone else. People ask about it as if I've found the secret to escaping summer. If only it were quite that powerful.
Kendra Townsend
I am very happy with this one.
I wasn't sure what size this would feel like from the description, so I spent ages trying to picture it before buying. For anyone else doing the same, it is about 105cm across when open and 40cm when folded. That's a useful amount of cover without carrying a long umbrella around. Anyway I had my last compact one for 3 years and really liked that style, which is why I went for another. Look at both sizes before deciding!!! I am very happy with this one. Handy for getting into the car quickly, with a button press to close the canopy, then push the shaft in, and it packs away neatly.

After she lost her previous one she wanted the same sort again.
My daughter needed an umbrella for all the walking she does at college, where wet days seem to come round constantly. After she lost her previous one she wanted the same sort again. This opens out to a generous size and has been just right for keeping her covered on those walks!

Dear umbrella shoppers,I wanted to add something about quality!
Dear umbrella shoppers,I wanted to add something about quality! I have owned a couple of umbrellas and the difference in how this one feels is quite noticeable. The ribs feel substantial without making it a chore to carry, and the opening action is very positive. I would rather pay a little more for something I enjoy using than keep replacing flimsy umbrellas. Out in wind and rain, I have watched people struggle to keep their covers overhead while mine was quite manageable. That does not mean I would take it into every storm, but for the weather I normally walk in, it has kept me dry and happy. A very contented customer here!Best wishes
Gary Hamilton
It was not worn out.
After more than a year using one of these, I only bought another because I managed to leave mine somewhere. It was not worn out. For going into the city in a suit it has been worth paying a bit more, the coverage is decent and it doesn't feel flimsy when the weather gets breezy. I would recommend it to someone who wants an everyday umbrella rather than just an emergency purchase. (Think about how often the cheapest option actually ends up being the best value)

I'm 6'3" and my daughter is 4'11", and we fit comfortably…
I'm 6'3" and my daughter is 4'11", and we fit comfortably underneath for the walk from the car to the shops. We get hurricanes here in New Orleans, but I haven't tried it in one of those. In the regular rainstorms and fairly strong gusts I've used it in, this umbrella has held up well.

Two weeks in Bali meant constant strong sunshine.
Two weeks in Bali meant constant strong sunshine. This gray umbrella shaded my eyes and gave me a break from the heat. The streets were crowded and narrow, so it was forever being opened and folded again. Took it all in stride! I bought a pair, and between my daughter and myself they probably got opened a thousand times. If mine ever gives out, I'd happily buy the same again.

One thing worth mentioning - it still catches the wind.
City walks in wet weather are a pretty good test of how much you actually like an umbrella. The gaps between tall buildings can turn an ordinary rainy day into a battle to keep covered. I took a chance on this one and it's been a very good choice.
The green was the first thing that appealed to me. It's a welcome change from all the dark umbrellas on the pavement, without looking too bright. There's a solid feel to the oval loop handle as well, and the whole thing looks nicely put together. But that's only part of why I'm happy with it. Out in the rain it has kept its shape through the blustery patches I've walked through. I've not had to stop and sort out an inside-out canopy, which is the part I actually care about. Looking nice wouldn't count for much otherwise.
One thing worth mentioning - it still catches the wind. A stronger gust can give your hand a tug even while the canopy stays in place, so don't expect to hold it loosely and forget about it. The loop gives me somewhere secure to grip and I haven't had trouble hanging onto it. That isn't a reason for me to take a star off, just something to bear in mind if gripping things is difficult for you.

Eventually I paid more for this one.
Five years in NYC has taught me that cheap umbrellas aren't always much of a saving. Rain here so often comes with wind, and I've watched enough little bargain umbrellas turn themselves inside out to last me a while. Eventually I paid more for this one. No regrets. It folds down, though it certainly isn't the tiniest thing you can tuck in a bag, and I don't mind that tradeoff for a more substantial feel. On wet, gusty walks it has felt steady rather than as though I'm holding something disposable.I am not particularly gentle with my things (umbrellas get dropped, squeezed into bags and knocked against doorways), so I appreciate the solid feel of the handle and frame. I'm not claiming it can survive anything, but normal everyday use hasn't made it feel loose or tired. For me the point was to stop treating an umbrella as something I'd throw away after a few outings.

A useful umbrella that people actually notice.
A useful umbrella that people actually notice. I had a similar one years ago and was quite attached to it, so I was pleased to find something with that same character again. The oval handle seems to catch people's eye and I've had questions about it when I'm out. It is nice to have an umbrella that is practical but not completely anonymous. Certainly gets more comments than I would have expected.
Preston Gilmore
Love having this umbrella.
Love having this umbrella. Money well spent. It's compact when packed away, but opens to a really useful size with one press of the button. Press again to collapse the canopy, then push the shaft back down by hand. It has a sturdy feel too. Glad I picked it...I'd buy it again!
Julian Church
Good coverage.
Just right! Good coverage. We've taken it along to games and it has done its job nicely. We're the sort of fans who pack an umbrella even when rain isn't forecast. Handy bit of shelter... The cream white looks really smart without being fussy. Packs away neatly in its sleeve too, which I appreciate.
Carrie Anthony
Otherwise I'm happy with what I paid!
Went with blue - it sits nicely in my regular messenger bag and feels well put together. The oval loop handle is a little more noticeable than I'd choose, and while the button closes the canopy, you still have to press the shaft down yourself. Those are really my only niggles. Otherwise I'm happy with what I paid!

People notice this umbrella and a few have smiled at it.
People notice this umbrella and a few have smiled at it. The blue is such a cheerful colour, makes a rainy day feel a little brighter :-)I enjoy using it: manageable to carry, the fabric looks strong, and it's been useful for shade as well as for keeping rain off.
Valerie Caldwell
A really nice umbrella to have.
A really nice umbrella to have. Not too heavy, opens without a struggle. Folds down neatly but gives a decent amount of cover outside. Useful for a shower or a bit of shade. The frame feels well put together. Blue is slightly quieter than it looked in the picture, but still attractive. The loop handle is nice too.Happy with mine.

).
The umbrella has a reassuringly solid feel when you pick it up (no flimsy little thing!). The oval loop gives me a comfortable grip without needing to clench my hand around it. The canopy responds smoothly to the button, and it's pleasant to use. Those flexible ribs seem tough, so I'm hoping it will be dependable in the usual rain and breezes.
Gabrielle Callahan
I love using it.
Spotted this style in a shop while away and left without getting it, then was delighted to find it online. Cream white looks rather classy for something that spends its time getting rained on. The button makes it pop right out, so give it room and don't try that sitting in the car...oops. Another press folds the canopy. I love using it.
Kristy Church
Feel nice and solid too, everyone is happy with theirs.
Still cant get over what a bargain these were. I picked up 3 and they made GREAT gifts. Handy to take along, but a decent size once you open them. They've been out in rain and over us for shade at soccer games!! Feel nice and solid too, everyone is happy with theirs. money well spent
Bridget Perry
The umbrella is lovely, but the colour name had me puzzled.
The umbrella is lovely, but the colour name had me puzzled.Cream White, so am I looking at cream, or white? And how am I supposed to tell from that tiny picture?Honestly, that's what I spent time on while choosing it. I like the shade now it's here, just wish the name and picture had made the decision a bit simpler.
Evan Hull
So happy with it!!
So happy with it!! My older boy had an umbrella when he was three and this brought that back. The little one is delighted with this one!! Just a bit of advise, remember to bring it inside after use. My son's old one stayed on the back patio for days and ended up with faded patches from the sun.
Carla Nash
Delighted with them!
I ordered two umbrellas well ahead of my daughter's spring wedding, just in case the weather didn't cooperate. Wanted something practical that would still look nice with everyone dressed up, and these are just right. They look smart without being fussy and feel better made than I expected for the price. I tried them both when they arrived and the button opening is very convenient. Once open there is a decent amount of shelter, and they fold down small enough to keep ready rather than having long umbrellas standing about. I can't say what the weather will do on the day, but at least this part is sorted. Delighted with them!
Juan Beard
It has managed the wind and rain I've encountered well.
My reasons for choosing it were (1)the comments from other buyers about a sturdy frame and straightforward operation; and (2)the appearance. Having used it myself, I think those comments were fair. It has managed the wind and rain I've encountered well. A few people have also remarked on how smart it looks.
Gavin Bowman
I wasn't sure how easy another would be to find!!
Graduation gift for our daughter, who is a musician, and she has been delighted with it. She'd spotted similar compact umbrellas at an audition and kept talking about wanting one... I wasn't sure how easy another would be to find!! She had this one open almost as soon as she unwrapped it. The size and simple button have both pleased her, and she's used it happily since!!
Gail Kent
Doesn't eat up all the space in there either.
Getting soaked a couple of months ago finally convinced me to carry an umbrella. Not fun.I found this one and it's been along in my backpack since. Got caught in another downpour recently and it did its job. Doesn't eat up all the space in there either. Just remember it's a folding umbrella, not a giant golf one, so don't expect the same amount of shelter around your legs.
Victor George
Maybe I'm missing something.
Maybe I'm missing something. But how often are you going to carry an umbrella by that oval loop instead of just putting it in a bag? It looks neat, certainly, I just don't find it the big selling point.Regardless, the umbrella itself seems well made and works nicely in the rain. The sleeve is what I find a little awkward. It's soft fabric, so it collapses when you take the umbrella out, and getting everything lined up to put it back takes more care than I want to give it. Not a serious problem, just a bit fiddly. Overall I like it better than that probably sounds.
Ariana Jensen
Great everyday umbrella!
Great everyday umbrella! Mine gets used whenever rain hits downtown San Francisco. The loop handle is comfortable to grip, even when a breeze picks up.The stitching looks neat and the frame feels solid, much more reassuring than the cheap ones I've had (never worth the saving)

Arrived within a week, which was good as it had come from abroad.
Arrived within a week, which was good as it had come from abroad. Useful little umbrella for taking round the golf coarse. I carry it rather than leave it on the buggy, and the folded size makes that practical. Had it out last week on a really hot summer day and appreciated having some shade while waiting around. The pink is a nice strong color. Opens quickly with the button and feels well put together for the price. Pleased with this purchase.
Andrea Juarez
I am pleased every time I pick it up.
Really like this one. I live in Miami and try to walk a few miles most days, so an umbrella gets carried a lot, not just used when the rain arrives. This fits in my backpack fine and doesn't feel like a chore to take along. Small purse though, no, I would not expect it to fit in that. The button gets the canopy up fast which is what I need when the weather changes. Opened up it feels roomy for a compact umbrella. Construction seems very good and it looks smarter than I expected. Mine is gray, a nice plain shade that goes with everything. I am pleased every time I pick it up. Simple as that.
Cristina Robertson
It has kept me dry through some heavy rain.
I've been using this for a few months now and it's become my regular umbrella. It has kept me dry through some heavy rain. For walking around New York, the size is right, enough cover for me without taking over the sidewalk. Handles a breeze well too.I've got two small complaints, neither worth losing a star over:1. It's still a little long for the backpack space I wanted to use.2. Wrapping the fabric neatly afterwards takes longer than I'd like when I'm rushing. Those are small things though, and overall it's a great fit for the way I use an umbrella.
Leon Rangel
Seems sturdy and nicely made.
Wanted this instead of my big golf umbrella, and probably expected too much from a compact one. About 105cm across is fine for me but doesn't really cover the push cart as well. Should have thought about that before choosing it.Seems sturdy and nicely made. I'll know more about the shade side when the rain here in Texas gives us a break.Update - finally had a sunny day and it was much more pleasant under it than in direct sun. Worth keeping!
Anne Parrish
I wouldn't choose it for battling heavy wind.
Quite light to carry in my purse when rain looks possible. The frame feels flexible rather than really substantial, though it's done fine in ordinary showers. I wouldn't choose it for battling heavy wind. There's enough room for me underneath, just not loads extra. Handy for having along, but I think of it as an everyday umbrella rather than heavy duty.
