I'd wanted this umbrella for quite a while! Finally having it in my hands was exciting enough, because I had chosen it mainly for how it looked. I knew it folded up and, at the price, I wasn't expecting much beyond that. What a surprise when I opened it! It feels solid, the beige looks lovely, and the whole thing opens with a really positive action. Much nicer than I had imagined! Then came the frustrating part, living somewhere that stays dry for weeks. All this enthusiasm and no rain to use it in! Sunday finally brought rain!! I got to take my umbrella out and enjoy the game later too. Worth the wait!

It is so much nicer walking with my own patch of shade.
I'm not trying to argue with everybody else's comments, but I think an umbrella needs to be judged for what you actually want from it. Reading complaints without knowing how somebody used it doesn't tell the whole story. A compact one and a huge golf umbrella aren't meant to feel the same in your hand. so look at the design and whether it suits your use, not just a quick judgement.I'm used to carrying an umbrella for sun, not only getting one out when it rains. I read plenty before deciding on this and have used it for several weeks in the Texas sunshine now. It is so much nicer walking with my own patch of shade. not enormous, but enough room for one person and it doesn't feel like a big thing to pack along. You still have to pay attention to the wind, I wouldn't treat any folding umbrella like it can't be moved by a gust. The shade underneath feels comfortable and that's what I wanted most. If you need lots more room, look for a larger umbrella, but this size suits me.

Probably the BEST umbrella I've had so far.
Probably the BEST umbrella I've had so far. We had some really unpleasant rain and wind recently and it did exactly what I needed. I got home dry, with no fighting to keep the umbrella from turning over. That alone makes me happy with it. Now that the wet season is here, it's staying in my hand bag rather than being left at home when the sky looks harmless.

Update: took it along on a rainy walk and it kept us dry.
I wanted to add my experience because I didn't find it as disappointing as some comments had suggested. It looks fairly plain out of the sleeve, but the beige is pleasant in person. Opening it was straightforward and the frame seems substantial. No trouble on that side of things. At first there hadn't been any rain, so I could only go by how it felt indoors. For the price I think it is a decent buy. There is enough room for me, and two people can manage if they stay close together. I do wish the handle was shaped differently for my grip, but that is just preference. I wanted to try it outside before giving it the extra star. Update: took it along on a rainy walk and it kept us dry. liked the way it felt once I got used to carrying it! Still a bit awkward going along narrow walkways, as I have to mind the canopy around posts and passing people. Not something I'd squeeze through every little gap with, but overall a good purchase.

Happy with the umbrella.
Happy with the umbrella. The fabric feels decent and the button makes opening easy. There is plenty of coverage for one person.I gave it to my goddaughter for her birthday and she was pleased. Her mum likes it as well. It seems a practical present that should get a good few years of use.

The sensible part is that he has something to keep him dry.
Rain protection is only part of what my son thinks this umbrella is for. In his mind it's also a shield and a little place to hide. An umbrella was actually on his Christmas list, so that's what he got. It's March now, and between the wet winter and all the pretending, this one has been used quite a lot. Still opens and closes properly and the fabric looks good. I do remind him that it's an umbrella, not indestructible armor, but he's six so that reminder doesn't always stick. The loop handle is easy for him to hold onto and he thinks the button is pretty great. The sensible part is that he has something to keep him dry. The better part, from his point of view, is having an umbrella of his very own.

Would be quite happy to buy another.
My daughter loves using hers. Had my first proper look at it this weekend and it really is a pretty umbrella, nicely put together too. The button opening and canopy closing are her favourite part. It folds down small but still keeps her covered in the rain. Would be quite happy to buy another.
Mikayla Reynolds
I liked mine enough to buy a few for presents too.
After using this, the flimsy umbrellas I used to settle for don't appeal much. It feels properly put together and has coped with the blustery days I've taken it out in, without turning itself inside out. I liked mine enough to buy a few for presents too. They've gone down well, which is always nice when you've picked something practical.

Over a year of use now and I'm still glad I chose this one.
Over a year of use now and I'm still glad I chose this one. I'm a fairly big fellow, so those tiny umbrellas usually leave my shoulders wet. This gives me much better cover. It's felt steady on breezy days as well, without being a monster to carry around. Would happily recommend it to someone wanting a decent everyday umbrella.
Brady Pennington
It's a lovely looking umbrella that folds neatly away.
The beige looks much nicer in person than I expected from the photo, and I've had quite a few compliments. It's a lovely looking umbrella that folds neatly away. I carry it across campus and it slips into my backpack for class or the light rail ride. Most importantly for me, it gives my sensitive skin a welcome break from the sun while I'm walking between buildings.

The canopy gave her good cover and looked lovely in the pictures.
I wanted an umbrella on hand for my daughter's February wedding in Michigan, since the weather could have been rain, sleet or snow. As it happened, snow began falling when we were outside for the photographs after the ceremony, so it was useful straight away. The canopy gave her good cover and looked lovely in the pictures. The fabric feels a little lighter than I had pictured, and getting everything wrapped neatly afterwards needs a little patience. Nothing that stopped it doing what I needed, though. My other daughter is getting married in October, so this will be coming along again, just in case. Overall it served its purpose very well, without being a great long umbrella to carry about. And it looked WONDERFUL in those snowy wedding photographs!

The blue is quite bright.
Got these as a rainy-weather backup for my daughter's wedding at the yacht club. She wants beach photographs, so I'm hoping that being prepared means we won't need them. They feel nicely made for ordinary rain, though I wouldn't expect them to deal with a storm. The blue is quite bright. Two people standing close should manage for a photograph under one. They arrived quickly and cost less than the alternatives I had looked at locally. Happy with them so far, and it is one less thing to worry about before the day.

Love carrying this thing.
Love carrying this thing. People can laugh at my umbrella while the Chicago rain blows sideways at them, I'll take being dry. Bonus: it folds down instead of being a ridiculous long thing to carry around afterwards. This this has handled the gusts I've met so far without making me fight it.
Henry Prince
I gave this umbrella to my mother for her birthday.
I gave this umbrella to my mother for her birthday. It was neatly packed and looked well finished when unpacked. The build is sturdy without being too heavy for her to carry. A simple button press brings the canopy up, so there isn't anything complicated to work out. She was pleased with both the appearance and the operation. Happily recommended.

Had this ready for our pop up dinner because rain was in the forecast but we ended up not needing itThat was a relief as sharing an umbrella while trying to eat over a table would have been interesting, it has been out with us since and feels sturdy, opens without any fuss and covers us when we're standing closeGlad we didn't have to work out the dinner part

Thought another happy owner's view might be useful!
Dear fellow umbrella users,I wanted to put in a word after reading some of the comments here! I can only speak for this folding umbrella, but the construction has impressed me. The handle is comfortable, and the frame feels much more substantial than I expected from something I can put away in a bag. Rainy, blustery outings have been quite uneventful, which is precisely what I want from an umbrella! I see people wrestling with their canopies while I can get on with walking, although I certainly wouldn't call anything invincible in the weather. For everyday use I have stayed dry and have no regrets about choosing it. Thought another happy owner's view might be useful!Best wishes

It's handled the rain and gusts I've been out in without drama.
More than a year of use and this umbrella has done what I needed every time. I'm buying it again only because I managed to leave mine somewhere, which is entirely my fault. For anyone walking around the city in work clothes, having something solid over your head is worth a little more money. It's handled the rain and gusts I've been out in without drama. (Think about all the cheap umbrellas you buy, get annoyed with, and then have to replace)

The Haven umbrella has been excellent.
The Haven umbrella has been excellent. Sturdy feeling, a useful size and very easy to open with the button. I'd certainly recommend it!My one hesitation was the green at first. It was more noticeable than I'd pictured when I unpacked it! Once we were out on the course in rain, though, the rest of the group could spot me quite easily, so it actually had its uses.I've come round to the colour completely. A handy umbrella and a very good purchase!!!
Frances Prince
I would ABSOLUTELY recommend it.
Probably the best thing I've treated myself to lately. There is something almost futuristic about this umbrella, light to carry but with a solid, modern feel. Walking around NYC I've had people notice it and ask about it. The cream white color really suits the design. More importantly I come home dry, back included. Near the Hudson on the UWS it can get pretty blustery and this has held its shape for me. I've passed people wrestling with umbrellas that had flipped while I was still getting along fine. That combination of looks and actually doing its job is hard to find. I think the price is excellent for what you get, and I'd happily have paid more. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend it. Top marks from me.

I lost my previous automatic umbrella while we were away on a family holiday and ordered this Green one to replace it. At first I wasn't sure about the closed loop handle, which was different from what I'd been used to. I spent a little time getting familiar with the grip before deciding whether I liked the change. Now that I've carried it in the rain I actually prefer the way this one feels in my hand. The button deals with opening and shutting the canopy, so that part is familiar. For most purposes it fills the same role as the one I lost, just with a different handle that I find comfortable to hold when it gets windy.

My kindergartners are pleased with this umbrella.
My kindergartners are pleased with this umbrella. Big enough to give them proper cover without needing a huge golf umbrella on the sidewalk. We've haven't had fingers caught or any trouble using it together. They enjoy the button, though I help them with it. I wondered whether a plain design would be a bit dull compared with a storybook one, but they don't seem bothered.
Priscilla Bray
Apart from that it seems a decent umbrella and looks nice.
The button takes care of putting it up and gathering the canopy, but you still have to shorten the pole yourself. I wish that last part was easier when everything is a rush, thinking of wet school mornings which are hectic already... Apart from that it seems a decent umbrella and looks nice. Haven't properly tried it outside yet, so we'll see.
Tim Gross
it has already had a few compliments.
it has already had a few compliments. The pink looks like the picture, a really pretty shade and quite feminine. the fabric feels nice too. Button works for opening and closing the canopy, takes a definite press but nothing troublesome, otherwise great! There is a sleeve for putting it away as well.
Brooke Curtis
Anyway, this one gets a big FIVE STARS from me!
Many, many trips to work later and this umbrella is still going strong. The build feels a world away from the flimsy things I've carried before. I can't see myself wanting a different one when it eventually needs replacing, whenever that might be.Why is finding something well made such a struggle in the first place? Anyway, this one gets a big FIVE STARS from me!

My son absolutely loves having his own umbrella.
My son absolutely loves having his own umbrella. There's a good amount of cover for him without a huge long thing to carry. He can work the button himself, and I help compress it afterwards so it's ready again. It folds down neatly to put away once dry. Nice having something he actually wants to take on our walks. We both love it!

He seemed very happy when he opened it.
I chose this umbrella for my son-in-law's Christmas present after looking at quite a few. He seemed very happy when he opened it. I haven't heard whether he's actually taken it out in the rain yet, but his reaction on Chritmas was certainly good. Happy with my choice so far.

Love it!!
I never knew an umbrella could make me this happy, apparently this is what my life was missing! One press and it springs up like it's delighted to see me, ready for the rain! Putting it away almost feels rude. Bad luck indoors? I'll take my chances, its too nice to leave sitting lonely by the door. Who needs company when you can watch a ridiculous weather movie with your umbrella beside you. An absolutely glorious addition to the household!!! Love it!!

Some of the comments I'd read about it had been encouraging.
I ended up buying this while I was out shopping and the rain started, as I hadn't brought an umbrella with me. I'd been reading about compact umbrellas for a couple of months anyway, and this one seemed a sensible choice rather than just grabbing anything available. Some of the comments I'd read about it had been encouraging.
The handle gives me a secure hold, which I appreciated on that first wet walk. There were a few quite sharp gusts and I thought it might turn inside out, but it stayed the right way round. I can't say how it would manage in every kind of weather, only that it felt steady for me.
The automatic button is probably the part I appreciate most. It gets the umbrella open quickly and another press draws the canopy closed. Getting it completely packed down takes a little more effort; you still have to compress the telescoping stem yourself. There is some resistance doing that, which surprised me at first, although it is just how the mechanism resets rather than something going wrong. Once I understood that I found it straightforward enough.
It isn't the lightest umbrella to hold, and I notice the weight around the handle particularly. That is something to bear in mind if you want almost nothing in your bag. For me the frame feels substantial enough that I don't mind the trade off.
Overall I am happy with what I bought and feel I got something useful rather than an emergency purchase I will regret. (I don't have any connection with the company or anyone selling these, I just spend more time reading umbrella reviews than I probably need to)
Diane Medina
What a difference!!
I'd had enough of umbrellas folding the wrong way when the wind arrived, so I picked this one. What a difference!! It feels secure overhead and hasn't given me that battle with an inside out canopy. Also helps keep my hair from getting quite so wild. The wind likes giving me a hairstyle I never asked for, and I'd rather not help it along. :)

The oval loop handle is a thoughtful touch as well.
Picked it up near the end of the rainy season in Hawaii, which means I can't judge a full season's worth of use yet. The button opening and canopy closing are very convenient. The oval loop handle is a thoughtful touch as well. It feels substantial in the hand and seems nicely made overall, although there is more weight to it than some similarly sized umbrellas. Hopefully it will be around for a good long time.

The cream white is so pretty and people have remarked on it too.
I've been using mine for six months now and it's been a lovely umbrella! The canopy gives good cover when I'm out doing errands with my 15 month old in my arms. I do have to hold it high enough to see where I'm going, rather than tuck it right down, but there's still room for the two of us underneath. The cream white is so pretty and people have remarked on it too.It seems sturdy in the rain we've had, though I haven't taken it out in really strong gusts. I'm happy with it for our usual walks, but I wouldn't pretend I've tested it in a serious storm.
Pamela Banks
As an umbrella, it's excellent.
I picked this for a friend who LOVES things that are a bit different without being flashy. The oval handle gives it that little something, and the canopy is a good size. More packing material than seemed necessary, which felt wasteful, but that's another matter. As an umbrella, it's excellent.
Darlene Knapp
The other point worth understanding is the closing action.
The overall design is good: the umbrella gives useful coverage and has handled the wind I've used it in without much fuss. I like it---but I think the word "compact" needs a little perspective. It folds down, certainly, though it is still something you have to make room for rather than a tiny item you can tuck away without thinking. The other point worth understanding is the closing action. Pressing the button closes the *canopy*; it doesn't pull the telescoping pole all the way in. You finish that part by hand. Nothing is faulty about that, but it does make the process less automatic than someone might imagine from a quick look at the description. For me, the coverage and solid construction make those compromises reasonable. If minimum bulk and a completely hands-off closing routine are the priorities, I'd think carefully about what you actually need. I'm keeping mine and using it, just with realistic expectations.
Alice Mayo
I ended up choosing this beige one.
An umbrella ought to be a fairly simple thing to get along with, but that hasn't always been my experience. I need one when it rains, then spend half the walk moving it around to cover whichever part of me is getting wet. Sometimes carrying one seems almost as much trouble as not bothering.
The very small folding umbrellas have generally been the most frustrating. They are convenient until you actually need some shelter, and I have had enough of trying to manage them when the wind gets underneath. Bigger umbrellas solve some of that problem, but then you have a long thing to carry everywhere. Bringing the front down to protect your face also means you can't see much of the pavement ahead.
I remember the umbrellas we had when I was younger seeming more useful. Perhaps that is partly memory, but I wanted to get back to having reasonable cover without constantly adjusting my grip and position. That was the thought behind looking for another umbrella, rather than simply buying the smallest one I could find.
I ended up choosing this beige one. It is a compromise, but mostly a useful one. There is a decent amount of canopy when it is open, and folded up it is easier to carry than the long umbrellas I've used. Having a button to open it is more helpful than I expected. Pressing it again gathers the canopy, although you still have to compress the telescoping shaft yourself afterwards. Once I understood that, putting it away was straightforward enough.
My reservation is that compact doesn't mean particularly tiny here. It still takes up some room, and I wouldn't choose it on the assumption that it will fit into every small bag. I also still have to keep the canopy high enough to see ahead, so it hasn't removed every annoyance I associate with umbrellas. However, it does provide useful shelter in normal rain without being a full-length umbrella to cart around afterwards. For me that makes it a worthwhile middle ground.
Gabriel Thornton
The quality seems good as well.
Such a pretty umbrella (and bigger opened than I thought)! The quality seems good as well. I had pictured a softer blue, so the colour wasn't quite what I had in mind, but it was for a table display at my business. Once everything was arranged the blue worked with the rest of the display really nicely.
Ethan Schneider
Works really well and is a good looking umbrella.
Works really well and is a good looking umbrella. The button takes a fairly firm press, though I expect I'll get used to it. I haven't found the weight any worse than my old umbrellas despite some comments about that. Once packed away it's a handy size to take with me.
Kenneth Hunter
Just as pleased with this replacement.
Lost my previous one on vacation, so I went looking for another like it. This has the same nice feel and is pretty to look at too. The button brings the canopy up or down easily, which I appreciate. Feels firm in a breeze without being heavy in my hand. Just as pleased with this replacement.
Jodi Shaffer
*That part is down to my wandering brain, not the umbrella!
I've become rather attached to this umbrella, which is funny considering how often I leave one behind. Two lost so far and I still come back for the same thing. *That part is down to my wandering brain, not the umbrella! LOL* The oval handle gets a few curious looks when I'm carrying it around, not quite the handle people expect on an umbrella. Most importantly it has kept me dry through some pretty unpleasant rain and wind. It folds away without a fight and doesn't feel like something I have to baby. Nothing much to complain about except my ability to keep hold of it. Would happily tell someone else to buy one, apparently I keep buying them myself! LOL

For my daughter in law's bridal shower, I looked into hiring an umbrella. The ones available looked tired and cost more than I wanted to pay, so I bought this instead. It looked so pretty with all the gifts and now she has something useful to remember her special day by!

Handy size for my larger purse - I don't mind carrying it along!
Handy size for my larger purse - I don't mind carrying it along! It feels quite sturdy when a gust catches it rather than immediately turning inside out. The beige is nice becuase I can pick mine out amongst the darker umbrellas by a restaurant entrance or at a friend's house. Saves wondering which one I brought.
Belinda Travis
The umbrella came in good condition.
The umbrella came in good condition. Nice start. The umbrella itself feels very well put together, not like something I expect to be replacing after a couple of showers.Having looked at the pictures, I was mainly thinking about the pink outside. There is also a black underside, which is worth noticing if you are choosing it for the appearance. I don't find that a problem at all.The measurements are roughly: open, 105cm; folded, 40cm; weight, 390g. There are 30 ribs, so there is quite a bit of frame under there. What does that mean in use? It is a proper sized umbrella when opened, rather than a tiny travel canopy. Folded up, it is compact but not something that disappears into your hand. The pink is lovely and the dark inside doesn't spoil it for me. The button action is quick, and overall I think the size and construction make it a very good purchase.

This one feels like a worthwhile change.
Have put up with little budget umbrellas for years, mostly getting wet round the shoulders and wondering when the frame would give up. This one feels like a worthwhile change. It opens smoothly with the button and the canopy is broad enough to give me proper cover, rather than just keeping the top of my head dry. Looking underneath, the supports seem much more substantial than those on the ones I used before. I've only had a few opportunities to use it, so I can't talk about years of wear, but everything has been straightforward so far. Closing the canopy with the button is particularly useful getting into my car; the telescoping shaft still needs pressing down manually afterwards. That isn't difficult and it stays folded once packed away. The cream white also looks quite smart with a suit, and I can pick mine out easily among all the dark umbrellas.
Brandi Strickland
i'm considering getting a few for people at work too.
it's easy enough to carry in my backpack and has been steady on windy days. i take the train, so there's a fair bit of walking around the city, and i've found this umbrella very useful. i'm considering getting a few for people at work too. the only little gripe is that it takes up more length in the bag than my old one. not a big issue if i pack it alongside the other things. the button opening is handy when i'm ready to head outside, and there's enough coverage that i don't end up with wet shoulders.
Debbie Arnold
A year of using this and it's still in very good shape.
A year of using this and it's still in very good shape. We've had plenty of wind and rain around Boston, and it has coped well with my regular outings. The cream white is attractive without being fussy, and people do notice it. It feels dependable, which matters more to me than anything else. When I eventually need another umbrella, I'd choose this same one again.
Diana Foster
I'd been admiring pretty umbrellas and finally wanted one for myself.
I'd been admiring pretty umbrellas and finally wanted one for myself. The cream white is such a nice change, looks lovely when it's open and gives me enough room to stay dry without feeling huge. I got compliments whenever I used it. Sadly someone stole mine before I'd even had it a month. :( I'll be getting another one when spring comes around!
Ivan Villegas
Better than I expected.
Better than I expected. The frame feels well made and the size is right for me. One press brings the canopy up, another brings it down, then the shaft pushes back in by hand. Once wrapped up it goes into the sleeve without a fight. I've generally used straight handles before; the oval loop on this one gives me something more useful to hold onto and clip to a bag. All feels well thought out.
Brett Berry
Good-looking umbrella, with a solid feel.
Good-looking umbrella, with a solid feel. I'm 6ft 2 and about 200lbs, and there's enough canopy to cover my shoulders without me bunching up underneath. The flexible ribs seem reassuring when a breeze catches it. Not the cheapest, but I'd rather pay a little more for something sturdy.P.S. don't expect a giant golf umbrella, this is much easier to carry folded.
Christie Booth
This does the job!
I work in the city and my parking spot leaves me with about a five minute walk to the building. Already have a big golf umbrella, but wanted a little portable one in case a shower comes along. This does the job! I really like the compact size for carrying but how much it opens out is great. Doesn't feel that far off my big umbrella for coverage, and there's room for two people to tuck underneath. My only gripe is sort of the same thing I like about it. With a canopy this size and so little weight, even a little wind can push it about quite easily. It feels sturdy to me, so I'm not sitting there worried a gust will break it, it just isn't the easiest to hold steady when the wind picks up. Overall though it's been a really good choice for what I needed and I'd happily buy it again!
Kristen Reese
One detail about closing is worth mentioning.
Before pressing the button for the first time, undo the fastening and give the canopy room to open. It springs out quite briskly. The canopy material feels substantial, rather than particularly thin, and the Cream White is on the outside only. Underneath is black. I had wondered whether the pale colour would be distracting overhead, but from below you aren't really looking at it. The covering sits neatly over the frame. I was curious whether the folds would become more pronounced with use. Still, the whole thing seems solid. It is about 40cm closed. Compact compared with a full-length umbrella, though not what I would call pocket-sized. The handle is an oval carabiner loop, closed rather than hooked. The shaft telescopes. There are 30 flexible ribs beneath the canopy, quite a lot when you look up into it. I wouldn't bend them around deliberately to test them. Opened, it measures roughly 105cm across, and I can stand underneath with my shoulders comfortably covered. Good.---1 YR UPDATE: Still intact after a year. I haven't used it every day, but the fabric and frame have held up well, and those folded areas haven't become a problem. One detail about closing is worth mentioning. The button brings the canopy in; it doesn't pull the telescoping section all the way down. That part needs pushing back in by hand before you can open it again. At first I expected everything to retract together. Once I understood the two stages, it was straightforward. I let it dry open before fastening it and putting the sleeve back on. So, a fairly substantial umbrella that packs down to a manageable length, rather than one of the very tiny folding ones. It has suited me well.
