The sturdiness has been the best part for me. Where I live the wind makes rainy days more annoying than they need to be, and I've had plenty of umbrellas I didn't trust. This one has been dependable so far. It feels steady when a breeze catches it, rather than making me worry about it turning over. There is a trade-off with size, though. Folded, it only just goes into my messenger bag, and I wouldn't expect it to disappear into a small handbag. I'm fine with giving it that bit of room if it means having an umbrella I actually want to take out when the weather is miserable.

Picked this up for my son to take to school.
Picked this up for my son to take to school. We get so much wind and rain here in Valdivia that I wanted something decent, and this looks promising. It opens with quite a snap, and the button brings the canopy in again too. Shortening it afterwards takes a push by hand. Everything arrived in good shape, with the packaging protecting it well.
Veronica Best
only had it out a handful of times, all good yet.
only had it out a handful of times, all good yet. the push buton is handy, it shuts the canopy then you have to shove the shaft back in befor it will open again, forgot that first time duh. let someone borrow it and they said "nice umbrella" so its not just me.
Fernando Berry
this one gives me the shade i wanted.
i don't enjoy standing in sunshine for ages so i like an umbrella handy here in CA. this one gives me the shade i wanted. finding a plain gray folding one was more searching than i expected :( the search results keep showing things i am not looking for, anyway this one suits me

It is a closed oval loop, not the usual curved umbrella handle.
The shape of the handle is a little different from what I first thought from the picture. It is a closed oval loop, not the usual curved umbrella handle. My son really likes it! We've had several umbrellas around the house and this one seems stronger then most of those. The flexible ribs are encouraging, although I haven't had it long enough to say how it will last. There is a decent amount of cover for one person when it is open. I wouldn't buy it expecting it to shelter the whole family. The button is easy to use for opening and drawing the canopy closed, and I like not having to press a little metal catch under the ribs. You still shorten the pole yourself after that. The green is bright and nice to look at, and the seams look neatly finished. So far this is just my impression from taking it out and trying it, but I'm quite impressed with the way it is put together.

We'd all been praying for rain.
We'd all been praying for rain. My Daughter has four boys ages 4 to 11 and I bought umbrellas for them, this was one of them. Once the rain came they couldn't wait to get outside. They made such a game of walking about with their umbrellas and I loved watching my Grandsons enjoy themselves. This one feels well made and came through their outings nicely. Funny how something so ordinary can leave such happy memories!

waiting for rain to take my lovely new cream white umbrella out!
...waiting for rain to take my lovely new cream white umbrella out! It's just arrived and I'm delighted. I opened it outside for a look (I grew up being told you shouldn't put an umbrella up in the house) and it looks so pretty. Even when folded it has a nice neat appearance. Once open it's a proper adult size, not some little decorative thing. So glad I found this one, it's exactly the sort of umbrella I wanted!
Darren Hickman
A good umbrella in my opinion.
Does the job nicely and the construction seems solid. Mine comes out every couple of weeks or so. It's quite manageable to take along, but opens wide enough to cover me and the backpack I wear to work. That's the part I appreciate most, not ending up with a soaked bag. The sleeve goes on without a struggle once it's wrapped up and keeps it tidy for carrying. A good umbrella in my opinion.

The automatic canopy closing is handy
Reading some of the low ratings nearly put me off, but I'm glad I went ahead. You can't know how one will suit you until you've used it. Ours has been steady in the breezes we've had and folds small enough for my wife's larger handbag. The automatic canopy closing is handy; you still compress the shaft yourself afterwards, which is normal. I think alot of people would find it a useful everyday umbrella. It has certainly done what we wanted.
Jeffery Clayton
We can use it together in the rain and it gives us good cover.
I ordered this for my granddaughter for Easter and put it away as soon as it came. I didn't actually take it out properly until Easter day, so that was when we both got to see it. She is only just over two and was so excited about having an umbrella, although of course I'm the one working the button and holding it with her. The whole thing feels nicely made and is a good size for us. I did ask for a little guidance about putting it away because I hadn't used this sort before. The helpful explanation was that the button shuts the canopy, and then you press the telescoping shaft in yourself. Once I understood that it was quite straightforward. My granddaughter is delighted, which was what I wanted in the first place. We can use it together in the rain and it gives us good cover. I'm very happy with the umbrella and appreciated having my question answered so kindly.

Would definitely recommend them!
These pink umbrellas are so pretty and have a lovely elegant look. They feel sturdy without being a burden to carry. Fingers crossed we don't need rain cover at my daughter's wedding, but if it's sunny they can give us some shade instead...I looked at quite a few before choosing these and the price helped make up my mind. Glad I spent the time comparing, because I am delighted with what arrived. Would definitely recommend them!

Useful as a spare umbrella, not what I'd pick for everyday rain.
Useful as a spare umbrella, not what I'd pick for everyday rain. It packs down well for a purse or backpack/laptop bag (mine stays in the latter). But the coverage is only just enough for an average adult, and anything above a gentle breeze makes it feel less steady than I'd like. Unless you live somewhere very dry, I'd want another umbrella available too. Getting it put away takes a little fiddling--the sleeve is snug, and you need to wrap everything neatly to get that compact bundle back. Handy to have, just with those limits.
Tamara Mahoney
The umbrella gives a very good impression.
The umbrella gives a very good impression.
The handle and middle pole do not feel too heavy, but there is a reasonable firmness.
It can be carried for rain and also for shade, so this part is useful. When you press to open it spreads quite quickly, therefore leave room first. (People who have opened one close to themselves will understand~~)
In my own opinion it is something I can recommend.
I will take care of it and use it often.

An umbrella sitting at home isn't much help.
After years of being dragged around with me, my old folding umbrella was about ready for retirement. It had survived plenty of rainy walks without flipping over, unlike quite a few of the sad-looking umbrellas left beside bins. Opening it was getting a little stiff, though, and the handle was looking tired. Still usable, just showing its age. I chose this Haven as its replacement and so far I'm very pleased with it.
Worth knowing that this is a compact umbrella rather than one of those enormous ones. For an average sized person there's enough coverage without taking over the whole pavement. Two people can manage underneath, provided neither is particularly attached to having their own space. I wouldn't choose it specifically for sharing.
Mine lives in the bottle pocket on the side of my backpack. I'm not trying to squeeze it into a handbag, so that folded size works well for me, and more importantly it means I actually have it when the weather changes. An umbrella sitting at home isn't much help.
There is still a larger one by the door for days when I know there will be two of us needing cover, but this is the one I carry routinely. I've already recommended it to a couple of people. For something that gets taken out this often, I feel the money was well spent. Happy to keep using it.

I'm 5'10" and the little bargain umbrellas usually leave my feet…
I'm 5'10" and the little bargain umbrellas usually leave my feet pretty wet. This gives me better coverage without being an enormous thing to carry. The automatic opening is handy and it feels quite solid when the wind picks up. There's more weight than in my plain compact umbrellas, but I expected that with the sturdier frame. I tend to lose umbrellas rather than wear them out, and when that happens this is the one I buy again.
Melody Oneal
Still need to give it a proper outing in the rain.
It opens and shuts the canopy with the button, then you push the shaft in by hand, I thought that part would happen too. Imagining rainy school mornings with everyone in a hurry... But once I've slowed down it's easy enough, I guess I was expecting one less step. Certainly looks smart. Still need to give it a proper outing in the rain.
Phillip Frank
Where I live we get plenty of wind with the rain and drizzle.
Where I live we get plenty of wind with the rain and drizzle. This feels like an umbrella built to be used rather than something flimsy to tuck away. It has coped well with the gusty showers here so far. Reminds me of the solid umbrellas we had years ago, only it folds up. Pleased with the construction and the price seems reasonable.
Bruce Moon
This Haven umbrella has been a welcome change.
I seem to go through several umbrellas a year. A windy corner or a walk near the river generally exposes the flimsy ones, naturally while it is pouring. Paying more always seemed wasteful if the result would be the same, but buying the cheapest option wasn't much of an answer either.
This Haven umbrella has been a welcome change. The frame feels substantial, and the flexible ribs have coped with the gusts on my usual route without the canopy turning over. There is enough give that it doesn't feel rigid and awkward to hold.
Opened out, it covers me properly without being so enormous that passing people on the pavement becomes a negotiation. Folded, it is a manageable length to carry, which I appreciate when stepping around puddles and getting up onto the curb. No long umbrella end to catch against things.
The oval loop handle is comfortable in my hand, and pressing the button sends the canopy up promptly. The button also brings the canopy down, then I push the telescoping section in to finish. A sleeve is included to keep it neatly together when it isn't needed.
After using it in wet, blustery weather, I am satisfied with the protection and the way it handles. Much less of a struggle than the umbrellas I was replacing, and compact enough that I don't resent carrying it when the rain stops.
Helen Weiss
I hadn't expected the gray to look quite so smart.
I hadn't expected the gray to look quite so smart. (Mustn't upstage the bride.) Four stars because figuring out the button had me puzzled at first. A friend showed me what to press and it opened normally. It's sitting open on the couch until the wedding next week. Wanted something practical that looked nice, and this does.
Mario Clark
My last umbrella would turn itself inside out whenever the wind so…
My last umbrella would turn itself inside out whenever the wind so much as looked at it, which was getting embarrassing. I wanted something less hopeless and this has been a welcome change so far. It also gives enough cover to keep me and the bag I'm carrying out of the rain.
Bianca Rodriguez
That part is more of a grown up job.
I bought two of these for the children, one preschool age and one in the younger school years. They cover them well, though this isn't a tiny children's umbrella and I help with putting it away. The button gathers the canopy neatly, then the telescoping section needs a firm push to reset. That part is more of a grown up job. Both arrived looking clean, with the fabric and frame in good condition. Once folded they are tidy enough to carry, but a little heavier than I would ideally choose for little hands. Overall they're useful umbrellas and I expect we'll get good use out of both.
Nicole Burch
She's having a wonderful time with it.
Had already chosen an umbrella for my grandson, so of course my grandaughter had to have one too. She is delighted! The button is a little firm for her fingers and I give her a hand. Once it's up, you'd better stand back. She's having a wonderful time with it. Nicely packed as well. Thank you..
Shawna Johnston
I hadn't come across this shape of handle before.
Was browsing for a replacement umbrella and this one made me stop. I hadn't come across this shape of handle before. It's cute and the beige will go with all my coats, which I like. We still have snow here so I haven't really put it through wet weather yet, can't speak for how it lasts but...I couldn't leave it!
Beverly Walker
Thats usually how it goes.
Still haven't tried it in serious wind The handle has room for my hand, and my hands aren't tiny. My lady and I can share some cover if we keep close together. Doesn't look like a flimsy little umbrella that makes you feel like a cheap *ss carrying it. There's something solid and confident about how it opens, makes you stand a little straighter yourself. Somebody will probably find a reason to hate on it. Thats usually how it goes. Go for it.
Collin Levy
The whole thing feels solid enough for regular use.
Christmas shopping for my father is never easy, and an umbrella isn't something I would normally have been excited to find for him. He didn't have a decent one, though, so this seemed worth a try. I expected an ordinary umbrella with a button that might be more impressive in the description than in actual use. What surprised us both was how useful that button is. It opens the umbrella and folds the canopy down again without having to wrestle with wet fabric. You do have to shorten the telescoping pole yourself afterwards; the button doesn't do that part. My father has been using it for a little over six months now and the folding action is still working nicely. He'll take it out for a drizzle, not just when there's proper rain! I'm pleased I chose it, and he seems pleased to have an umbrella he actually wants to carry. The whole thing feels solid enough for regular use.
Allen Cox
I would consider shopping here again.
My four stars are for the help I received, since I never actually got to try the umbrella. I put my previous address on the order by mistake and couldn't get back there to collect it. That part was entirely down to me. I contacted customer service and they were patient while we went through what had happened and whether there was any way to get it to me. In the end I still didn't have an umbrella to use, so I can't comment on its quality. I did appreciate being treated kindly over a mistake I had made myself. I would consider shopping here again.
Fernando Poole
Nice having one less thing to worry about.
After seeing one brought along to a wedding this year, we wanted the same sort of rain backup for our future daughter-in-law. Thankfully it stayed folded on the day. There was a handwritten wedding message on the one we'd seen, which I thought was a sweet touch even if the weather hadn't cooperated. This feels substantial, especially the handle, and opens to a useful size without being awkward to store. We'll hang onto it for other occasions. Nice having one less thing to worry about.
Katie Guerra
This umbrella is sooo nice!
This umbrella is sooo nice! i haven't tried a rainy day yet, but i've enjoyed the shade and it's handled a bit of breeze. heavier than a tiny handbag umbrella, not as heavy as a big one. the button opens and shuts the canopy fine, then the shaft needs a push down. makes a pretty loud sound too, my cat wants absolutely nothing to do with it.
Gina Shea
Decent umbrella.
Decent umbrella. Haven't tested it in strong winds yet, so I can't say much about that, though the build feels good. My one annoyance is trying to reopen it with the shaft still extended after closing the canopy. Opening it by hand from there isn't easy; I have to push the shaft down first and use the button again. A little inconvenient, not really a problem. Perhaps it'll feel easier with more use.
Alyssa Hutchinson
I have been very happy with the quality of this umbrella.
I have been very happy with the quality of this umbrella. It feels substantial for a compact one, with more thought put into the everyday details than I expected. Mine stays in the car so it is there when I need it.
A few points worth mentioning:
- The handle is an enclosed oval loop rather than a curved hook. I find it comfortable to hold, and it gives the umbrella a distinctive but practical shape.
- The opening button is straightforward to use. A press opens it, and another press closes the canopy; you then push the telescoping section down yourself to finish folding it away.
- It spreads out smoothly and feels secure once open. There is a useful amount of coverage, despite the fairly small package you start with.
- The canopy has a black underside, and the many flexible ribs give it a well-supported shape. It doesn't have that flimsy feel I have had with some small umbrellas.
- There is a carry sleeve included. Once everything has dried, it keeps the folded umbrella tucked away neatly in the car.
Overall, it does the ordinary job of an umbrella very well, and the construction feels carefully considered. I wanted something convenient without it feeling insubstantial, and this has met that expectation. Very happy to give it five stars.
Jon Robinson
Two storms gave it a fair trial, and I stayed dry through both.
For years I thought spending more than the bare minimum on an umbrella was a waste. The inexpensive ones were fine until a proper downpour, then I'd end up with a leak or a frame that wouldn't sit straight. Replacing them so often wasn't much of a saving. And having one give up while you're actually in the rain is particularly irritating.
So I gave Haven a try. My first impression was of a neatly put together umbrella, with a tidy folded shape and fabric that sits smoothly over the ribs. It's heavier than the cheap ones I was used to, which is my main reservation. Still, it looks and feels like something worth keeping.
Around Los Angeles it dealt with several rainy outings comfortably. That was encouraging, but I wondered whether I'd feel the same somewhere less forgiving.
I took it to Chicago a few weeks ago, tucked into the outside pocket of my carry-on backpack. Two storms gave it a fair trial, and I stayed dry through both. Turning a corner on Michigan Avenue, a gust caught the canopy and tipped it inside out. I used the button to collapse it, pushed the telescoping shaft back in, then reopened it once I'd stepped out of the gust. Nothing was bent, and I carried on using it normally.
That trip mattered more to me than how smart it looked when I unpacked it. I'd still prefer a little less weight, and it wasn't the cheapest option. But after using it in those conditions, I'm comfortable with what I paid.
Harold Steele
For a folding umbrella it feels like a quality purchase.
Excellent umbrella overall, though there was a strong new-material smell when I unpacked it. Letting it air for a day or two sorted that out. The design is practical and the canopy is a good size once open. For a folding umbrella it feels like a quality purchase.
Lorraine Larsen
Very useful for us.
Very useful for us. My husband was taking an ordinary folding umbrella before and we're not happy with that one. This is much more solid and we feel better about taking it in the rain. A little expensive but glad I ordered it. Hoping this is the one for long term use.
Henry Thompson
It's nicely put together too!
My son and daughter in law had a wonderful rooftop wedding in New York. I wanted a useful little Christmas gift for her, and this umbrella has a lovely, understated look. It's nicely put together too! Something practical she can enjoy after all the excitement of their big day.
Kathy Reed
There really is some weight there.
I'd say you want a little strength for this one, it is quite a heavy umbrella. There really is some weight there. Weight aside it's the best I've bought. I gave my daughter one, she uses it far more in DC than I do here in the southwest and she loves it. This is now the second I've bought for her. Somebody stole the first one she had. She actually cried about that.
Timothy Hodges
She takes it along in sunshine too--a little shade for her walk.
My granddaughter is delighted with her blue umbrella and now every cloudy day brings the question of whether she can use it. She takes it along in sunshine too--a little shade for her walk. When it's open she likes turning it round above her head, very pleased with herself. For a four year old it's quite the exciting thing!Glad it turned up so promptly!
Regina Brock
It makes a real difference to me.
After two hot summers in Houston this has become one of my favourite things for walking. Having my own shade makes being out later in the morning much more pleasant. I still leave it behind for a quick trip to the store because it is extra weight to carry, even folded. But when I am going for a longer walk, I want it along. It makes a real difference to me.
Daisy Vang
Having my own patch of shade makes a real difference on a long walk.
Two hot summers in Houston with this and I wouldn't want to be without it. Having my own patch of shade makes a real difference on a long walk. I can stay out later in the morning now instead of heading home as soon as the sun gets strong. I don't bother taking it for a quick trip to the shop, it's a little bulky for that, but for longer walks I love it.
Bryce Walter
Spring travel can be unpredictable.
Not a golfer, just wanted an umbrella to take on vacation in case the weather turned. This one opens out bigger than I expected from looking at it folded. Spring travel can be unpredictable. Four stars for now since we haven't actually needed it outside yet, but the construction looks good.
Ariel Woods
I travel often so there's usually one packed in my bag.
An umbrella isn't normally something I'd bother reviewing, but I've become quite attached to this one. I travel often so there's usually one packed in my bag. This folds down neatly enough to go in with my other things rather than needing to be carried separately. What I appreciate most is how much coverage there is once it's opened compared with its folded size.
Sandy Kim
A few people have admired it too.
It hardly ever rains here, yet somehow I still manage to misplace umbrellas. Talent, I suppose. I wanted one I'd recognise straight away, and this blue one is much easier for me to spot among our things. A few people have admired it too. It's only been used three times so far, and has kept me dry on each outing. A little bulkier folded than my tiniest old umbrella, but that's not a big complaint. At the moment it stays in the car, waiting for our weather to remember that rain is an option.
Belinda Summers
It arrived while we were having snow and windy weather.
It arrived while we were having snow and windy weather. I normally reach for a big golf umbrella but that can pull me about when the wind picks up.with this one I could keep hold of it more easily and it kept the wet off me.Thanks for an umbrella I can actually manage. I expect this will be getting a lot of use.
Sue Lloyd
we've had these out several times and they've worked fine.
we've had these out several times and they've worked fine. even when it's been breezy. they're not too heavy considering the open size and the push button is handy. i'd suggest one for golf or just for somebody wanting a comfortable amount of cover, even to share if you stand close with a friend.
Eric Wade
The umbrella looks just like the picture
The umbrella looks just like the picture; a really attractive shape and a neat overall finish. It also seems reassuringly sturdy for what it costs. I looked at about four other umbrellas in shops before choosing this one, and liked this combination of appearance and construction best. The oval loop handle is more plain and practical than decorative, but it suits the umbrella. Taken altogether, this is the nicest folding umbrella I came across while I was looking.
Lori Morse
Rain seems to roll off the fabric nicely too.
Never thought I'd find an umbrella button entertaining, but here we are. Press it and it's open; press again and the canopy gathers in. You still have to push the telescoping stem down yourself. That little convenience is particularly welcome with shopping in one hand and the car keys somewhere in the other. Rain seems to roll off the fabric nicely too. Before taking it indoors I give it a few quick shakes, which gets rid of most of the water rather than leaving it dripping everywhere. Much less fuss than I'm used to, both using it and putting it away.
Joy Short
Really like the size of this umbrella.
Really like the size of this umbrella. It covers me without feeling enormous! The only awkward thing is putting it away neatly. The canopy closes with the button, but I still have to arrange the folds before wrapping it, especially when it is wet.I like the green, it looks cheerful without being loud. I keep it a little higher when walking so I can see ahead. There was a little dust from the packaging at first...a quick wipe with a damp cloth sorted that out.
Preston Pena
The coverage is what I like most about this umbrella.
The coverage is what I like most about this umbrella. I stay dry without having to juggle it around, and the simple design looks smart rather than fussy. Closing it needs a little pressure on the shaft after the canopy folds, which I was unsure about at first. It isn't stuck, that's just the way you reset it by hand. Once I understood that, no problem at all. The button does the opening and folds the canopy neatly, so there isn't much fiddling involved. Everything feels sturdy when it's up. All in all, a great umbrella for rainy days and one I'm glad I found!
Marc Hoffman
These have gone down very well with my kids.
These have gone down very well with my kids. There is more room underneath than on their little umbrellas, enough to keep their school bags out of the rain too. They seem solid so far, which matters because my lot arent gentle with anything. Their previous umbrellas managed about a year and I was happy enough with that. the button opening is handy, though I help with pushing the shaft in again before they put them away.
Melinda Davila
A Great umbrella at this price.
A Great umbrella at this price. Opens up to a useful size and the materials feel solid, not flimsy at all. When it came I was honestly expecting something much less sturdy. It arrived quickly too. Looking it over, the finish is better than I thought it would be.If your after decent coverage in a folding umbrella, this is worth a look.
Dana Proctor
I'm satisfied.
My reason for 5 stars:I wanted a folding umbrella with a substantial feel. What works for me:It seems well put together and covers more than I expected from a portable one. I'm satisfied. Anyone with carpal tunnel or sensitive wrists might find it a little weighty and firm to operate, just something to consider.Who I would suggest it for:People who prefer a solid umbrella over the absolute lightest option, especially if their wrists are strong.
