It isn't a huge problem, but I do notice the extra weight.

I wanted something that could stay in my backpack and cope when the wind picked up. So far this one has managed both, which is the important part for me. I'd give it five stars if it were a little less heavy in the bag. It isn't a huge problem, but I do notice the extra weight.

It kept me dry and felt steady to hold.

Just got back inside after using this in the windy rain going through DC, and I'm pleased with how it did. It kept me dry and felt steady to hold. Folds down to go in my purse, and the button is straightforward to use.I should explain that my purse is a big tote, not one of the little bags you can barely fit anything into. This isn't one of those tiny umbrellas. For my bag it is a good fit, but I'd check your bag space before choosing it.

Since this umbrella showed up the weather has decided to stay dry.

Since this umbrella showed up the weather has decided to stay dry. It feels properly put together and opens smoothly. For the money I'm impressed. I ordered a pair, so there's one waiting in the car and another near the front door. Worth trying if you need a decent everyday umbrella.

The black fabric was the first thing that stood out when I opened it.

The black fabric was the first thing that stood out when I opened it. In the photo I thought it would look a bit softer and less shiny... I may try to take a picture later. Still deciding abotu giving these to my little boys as planned, mostly because they look more grown up than I expected. A photo might make the folded size clearer too, it isn't one of those tiny children's umbrellas. The opening button is easy enough to use and the canopy has a good amount of cover. I would help them with packing it down. It feels nicely made overall... will see how it goes and add something here if there is anything worth mentioning.

I love it, really worth what I paid

Rainy season here makes an umbrella necessary. The ones I had before never lasted very long, this has been holding up.Handle feels good in my hand and that closed loop clips onto my backpack.I knocked it against my heavy bag once and... Still fine. Having something I can actually keep using makes a difference.I love it, really worth what I paid

The frame appears solid and the beige looks as expected.

A straightforward personal umbrella that folds down, although it isn't the smallest package of this type. The frame appears solid and the beige looks as expected. The loop handle offers a comfortable grip, including for a larger hand. I could see this making a useful gift for someone who attends outdoor games in the cooler, wetter parts of the year.

He was thrilled when he saw it!

My four year old grandson asked his grandma for a replacement umbrella after his old one had seen better days. This feels much better made, and the unusual loop handle was what caught his eye. He was thrilled when he saw it! Carries it about and does his little tap dancing routine with it, even when there isn't any rain! I was glad to find something that made him so happy when he asked me for one of his own.

Had this out for its first use yesterday and it kept the rain off without any trouble. The part I am less keen on is the way I have to hold it. The handle feels short in my hand, and with long arms I end up keeping my elbow bent more than I would like to get enough clearance over my head. Holding it lower brings the inside supports a little too near for comfort. I can adjust my grip and manage it, but it isn't the most relaxed umbrella for me to carry. Otherwise the construction seems fine - it stayed steady on a breezy day and the cover is useful.

I'd originally bought something else: this umbrella is better.

I'd originally bought something else: this umbrella is better. Well made, sturdy, and a simple classic look that I really like. It covers me and my work things without being so wide I'm bumping into everyone. I haven't spent this much on an umbrella before, but it feels worth the extra. Expecting it to be with me a long while.

Great unbrella.

Great unbrella. The simple style is nice, but being properly covered is what matters. I carry it just above eye level, with a clear view in front of me and enough canopy over my head and shoulders. It doesn't need to sit down on my head to keep me dry. Recommended.

Tried it for shade and that was good.

I went back and forth over the negative comments before trying one, then liked it enough to get more. Weight matters to me as heavy things are difficult to lift. This feels manageable (not one of those featherweight ones though), and the ribs seem strong. Tried it for shade and that was good. Rain is still to be tested, I expect it'll do fine haha.

An easy umbrella to recommend.

The two umbrellas I was given for Christmas somehow ended up with other people, so I went looking for another. This has the things I liked about those- a solid feel, enough room when open and a folded size I can actually carry about. It's dealt well with the rainy, blustery days I've used it on. The price was kinder than replacing my old ones too. An easy umbrella to recommend.

Courtney Good

It looks lovely in person.

My nearly four year old asked for an umbrella for her birthday, along with one other thing. The plain black colour and neat shape made me choose this one. It looks lovely in person. Opened out it is quite roomy for her, so she'll have help with it for now. It seems solid rather than flimsy, which I was glad about. I think she'll be absolutely delighted!!

For my everyday use it is MUCH more convenient than a long umbrella.

A fair amount of thinking went into this purchase, mostly because I walk on crowded city sidewalks and don't want an awkward thing to carry. The folded size suits the bag I normally take. Open, it gives me room without making me feel as though I'm steering a giant canopy through everyone else. I still hold it high enough to see ahead - you can't look through this fabric - but the balance is comfortable. The button is useful w/ a bag in the other hand, too. It has dealt with the ordinary rain and gusts I've met so far; I wouldn't pretend that makes it a storm shelter. For my everyday use it is MUCH more convenient than a long umbrella. I'm considering a second as a spare, and perhaps a couple for gifts.

My one small quibble is the closed oval loop handle.

These are the umbrellas I keep coming back to. I've had quite a few by now, mostly because I have a habit of leaving them behind somewhere rather than wearing them out.The canopy gives me GOOD coverage, and two of us can share in light rain if we stay close. It isn't a giant umbrella, which is fine because I actually want to carry it with me. The frame feels solid and has behaved well on windy days, especially when I pay attention to which way I'm holding it. Being able to collapse the canopy with the button is probably my favourite part. Getting into a cab or stepping inside a building is much easier without wrestling a fully open umbrella first. You still push the shaft back down by hand afterwards, but that part can wait until you're out of the rain. I haven't had any trouble with the ones I've used. My one small quibble is the closed oval loop handle. Depending how I hold it, it takes a moment to find a comfortable grip, rather than just grabbing it any old way. Once I've adjusted my hand it's fine, so that really is a minor thing.

Penny Santos

The coverage is good without making it awkward to carry.

I've had this umbrella for a few months now and it has been just what I needed. The coverage is good without making it awkward to carry. When I walk in the rain I stay dry, which is really what I bought it for. Everything feels nicely put together. I think the price is reasonable compared with umbrellas I've looked at, and I'd recommend it.

Kenneth Bryant

My Grandson had been asking for his own umbrella.

My Grandson had been asking for his own umbrella. Here in California we've been fasting and praying for some rain, so I picked out an umbrella for him. The boys were so excited when the rain finally came, four wet days after so long without much at all. The umbrellas were bought BEFORE that happened! He is only four and thinks having an umbrella is a big event. It seems nicely put together and he loves carrying it. Grandparents, don't overlook a simple umbrella as a treat!!One delighted Grandma

My one reservation is the weight.

I'm satisfied with how this has handled Chicago's windy weather. Past umbrellas haven't lasted me very well, so the solid feel is welcome. My one reservation is the weight. It will go into my backpack easily enough, but I can certainly tell I'm carrying it around.

+ Folds small enough for my laptop bag

I was getting tired of choosing between an umbrella that fitted in my work bag and one that actually covered me properly. The little one I used before was fine until I had the bag on my shoulder, then either the bag or the other shoulder seemed to catch the rain. Decided to spend a bit more on this one and so far I'm happy with that decision. What I like most is the amount of cover without having to carry a long umbrella everywhere. It's not an enormous golf umbrella, but there's useful room over my shoulders and bag. Folded down it's about 40cm, which still goes into my laptop bag without much rearranging. Not the tiniest compact, admittedly, but a fair exchange for the extra coverage. Rain has beaded off the material well, the handle feels substantial, and the button has worked each time I've used it. Gray is fairly understated which suits me. My one reservation is the pressure needed to push the telescoping shaft back in after closing. The canopy closes with the button, then that last part is manual. Nothing wrong with the operation, just takes a firmer push than I'd ideally like. Once packed away it feels tidy enough and I've not had to keep adjusting it over myself as I walk. PROS: + Useful coverage for me and my work bag + Folds small enough for my laptop bag + Convenient button action and a nice plain gray CONS: - Resetting it takes a bit of effort

Good fun.

A cheerful present for a youngster who wants to be a firefighter. The green looks great, the size is useful and it isn't complicated to use. How long it lasts will obviously depend on how it's treated, but the construction looks as good as I would expect from an umbrella. For the price, there's a lot to like here. It was protected nicely in the packaging and came out looking fine. Now we're hoping for a wet day to try it properly, although I suspect it'll be taken outside regardless of the forecast!!! Good fun.

Courtney Hayden

I'm looking forward to taking it out.

I wasn't quite sure what the pink would be like from the picture, but seeing it in person made me smile!!!! Such a pretty colour and a useful size. It will go in my larger purse without trouble. I'm looking forward to taking it out. I've been collecting umbrellas for about three years now and still enjoy choosing one for a rainy day. This one has that cheerful look I like, without needing a fancy pattern. Thank you for making something practical that is also so nice to look at.

This pink umbrella is just the sort of thing I wanted for outdoor…

This pink umbrella is just the sort of thing I wanted for outdoor events! Here in Florida a sunny afternoon can turn into a shower without much warning. Once everyone opens their umbrellas, there suddenly isn't much room around you. I still have to be considerate about where the edges are and not block somebody's view, but this gives me good cover without feeling like a huge umbrella to carry. The button makes getting it open much easier when the rain starts, and the canopy closes with another press. It feels nicely put together, and I'm looking forward to lots more use!

Kara Hester

First thing to mention, this isn't a huge golf umbrella.

First thing to mention, this isn't a huge golf umbrella. It's a practical size for one person, not something I'd choose to shelter a group. With that out of the way, it does its job nicely. I keep it in my laptop bag for those times I'm caught out and my bigger umbrella is elsewhere. Being able to fold it up is the WHOLE POINT for me. Still takes a bit of bag space, but much easier than carrying a long umbrella just in case. Good choice if you carry a work or college bag. Mine has coped with the ordinary gusts it's met without flipping over.

Haley Pierce

I bought one for my daughter.

I bought one for my daughter. In Florida we can't really go without an umbrella! What I like: Opens with a buttonCovers her shouldersFeels VERY well madeLooks nice tooThe handle is comfortable as well. It packs away neatly so she keeps it nearby. She loves hers and I liked it enough to order one for myself. Absolutely worth buying!

Betty Burns

The umbrella was received in good condition.

The umbrella was received in good condition. I like the quality of the material. It is green outside and the inside is black, as shown in the description. There is a fabric sleeve for keeping it when folded. It is easy enough to carry and gives me good shade, which was my main reason for buying it. I have not yet used it in rain or windy weather so cannot comment on that part. I can recommend it for the sun.

Sherri Bautista

New York wind hasn't given this one much trouble.

New York wind hasn't given this one much trouble. Other people are wrestling their umbrellas along the street while I'm walking quite happily under mine. No drama, no chasing it down the pavement. Just a little whistling to keep myself entertained... Rain isn't so bad!

Tiffany Briggs

Opening it with one hand is handy when I'm carrying other things.

I've been carrying this umbrella for around a month now and have needed it a few times. So far it's done better than I expected.I travel a lot, and being able to put it in my laptop bag mattered more to me than having a huge umbrella. It fits in there without taking over the bag, though I do notice the weight a little. Opening it with one hand is handy when I'm carrying other things. The construction seems sound at this point, and the coverage is good enough that getting caught in rain doesn't feel like such a nuisance.I looked at quite a few around this price before choosing, and I'd be comfortable buying the same one again.

Cheryl Davidson

I don't know the exact shaft material, but it feels solid in use.

After getting a folding umbrella for my self, I ordered this one for my girlfriend. The wind was my main concern, since my old umbrella had not coped well with walking into it.The frame on this one seems substantial without making the whole thing awkward to carry. I don't know the exact shaft material, but it feels solid in use. So far she has been able to walk with it in breezy rain without the canopy flipping.

Roy Costa

Four years on and mine is still in really good shape.

Four years on and mine is still in really good shape. It feels solid, the ribs have enough give, and it's done well on windy rainy days. Two little things I'd mention: 1) Keep track of it. I'm normally hopeless with umbrellas, yet somehow this one has stayed with me (touch wood). 2) Let it dry fully before putting it away. I leave mine spread out after rain rather than folding it up damp. Not the cheapest thing to misplace, but I've been very happy with how it's held up.

Judy Hawkins

A very nice little umbrella for him.

Once one grandson had an umbrella, I could see that the others would expect their own as well. I chose this one for my youngest and he was delighted when the package was opened. It is nice to see him so pleased with something useful. A very nice little umbrella for him.

Helen Hanson

It's roomy!

I'm enjoying this: walking in the rain feels less like a battle: you know, when your shoulders stay DRY and you aren't huddled under some tiny bit of fabric. And by "covered" I mean room to walk normally, not holding your elbows against your sides! It's roomy!Still looks smart.I can carry it when I'm dressed for work without feeling silly. The ribs feel substantial too, so I don't spend the whole walk worrying about the canopy.

Jeremiah Cohen

I am liking this umbrella very much.

I am liking this umbrella very much. The Cream White colour looks more lovely in person than on screen. I live in Seattle and here we have so many days with rain. I wanted something which is not looking dark all the time. The light colour is giving me a pleasant feeling when the sky is gray. It also opens easy with the button. A simple thing but on rainy day it makes me happy to take it along.

Ross Bird

Mine has been going for ages now!

Mine has been going for ages now! Still sturdy and hasn't turned itself inside out on the breezy days I've used it. I'm careful where I put it on my bike though, umbrella and wheels are not a good mix :( Would definitely buy another one! It looks lovely as well, not just useful, somehow it goes with whatever I'm wearing :)

Collin Wang

Having used one of these before, I knew the quality was good

Having used one of these before, I knew the quality was good; this was an easy choice. Nothing more annoying than fighting with an upside down umbrella while you're getting wet! Mine has stayed put through the wet weather I've used it in, and I feel confident taking it out. I've also given a couple as gifts and my friends have been just as pleased!

Mike Durham

This is a sensible middle ground.

Don't like buying umbrellas that feel as though they're only meant for one use. Equally I don't fancy lugging something bulky and expensive around just to leave it somewhere. This is a sensible middle ground. Not a tiny purse umbrella, but it folds down to go in my backpack easily. Feels sturdy enough for the usual everyday use, which is what I wanted.

Shannon Zimmerman

Added this to a birthday present on a whim.

Added this to a birthday present on a whim. Turns out it's among the nicest umbrellas I've owned. PROPERLY WELL MADE, unlike the flimsy ones I usually grab. The simple design appeals to me too. For the price I'm delighted, now I just need not to leave it somewhere!

Luis Andersen

This gray umbrella worked out just right for a photo shoot - looks good, feels sturdy and there's plenty of cover. I enjoyed using it for the pictures and I intend to keep it handy for rain, rather than putting it away afterwards. The price suited me too - I'd left ordering until the last minute, so it was a relief to have it ready when I needed it!

Juan Velasquez

Finally had a rainy, blustery day to try it.

Finally had a rainy, blustery day to try it. I was doubtful about a compact umbrella, but it handled the outing well. I'd prefer a little more space under the canopy and a bigger grip, which is why I've held back a star. Still a useful umbrella for the money and I'm glad I chose it.

Teresa Blanchard

Good cover without carrying a full length umbrella!

Good cover without carrying a full length umbrella! You use a button rather than having to push the canopy up yourself. It brings the canopy down as well, although you still shorten the shaft by hand afterwards. I don't mind that extra push. The frame seems substantial and it keeps the rain off. Suits me!

Cathy Parsons

The ribs have some give when the wind catches it, which is reassuring.

Coming from a desert climate, I hadn't understood how useful a decent umbrella could be. I appreciate the button operation, and it packs down enough for my purse. The ribs have some give when the wind catches it, which is reassuring. A few times I've forgotten it and had to use another umbrella, then found myself fiddling with awkward catches and worrying about my fingers. That has made me appreciate this one even more. Opening it and bringing the canopy in again are both smooth and straightforward.

Henry Schmidt

A successful choice for us, and reasonably priced too.

We chose these umbrellas as prizes for our garden club's spring tea hat contest. They were opened and shown off during the event, which everyone enjoyed. The winners seemed delighted and a few members wanted to know where to find one. A successful choice for us, and reasonably priced too.

Nicolas Ali

It opens nice and wide and the whole thing feels solid.

Fed up with folding umbrellas that barely keep more than your head dry. I was after something I could put in my bag, but still have a decent canopy when it rained. This one has been just the thing. The push button makes getting it up quick, and collapses the canopy afterwards. It opens nice and wide and the whole thing feels solid. Couldn't be happier with it!

Sarah Strickland

My brother is quite happy with his, so maybe its just me being fussy.

Well, I've had this less than a year and I like how steady it feels in the rain. Enough cover for me and it doesn't feel flimsy. So why three stars...its the opening action I haven't really taken to. Press the button and it goes up very quickly, and I want some space around me before doing that. Fine when I'm ready, less convenient with my purse in one hand and not much room to move! It works as intended, I just find the movement a bit much when its close to me. Putting it away also means pushing the shaft in after the canopy has folded. I know thats the normal routine and not a fault, but it takes more attention than I was hoping for. My brother is quite happy with his, so maybe its just me being fussy. Once I'm actually walking with it open it covers me nicely, so there are good things about it too....

Ariel Mcintyre

I wanted something a little distinctive that also felt properly made, and I'm happy with this. The finish is neat, you notice it when holding the handle, and the opening action is smooth rather than clumsy. It cost more than I usually spend on an umbrella, but it feels worth keeping and looks elegant without trying too hard.

Theodore Brady

A nice little bit of character in an everyday thing.

Apparently even a plain black umbrella can get a conversation going. People notice the oval handle and want to have a look at it, which I hadn't expected. I don't mind stopping for a chat, unless we're both standing in a downpour, of course. A nice little bit of character in an everyday thing.

Sheri Davidson

It feels steady in breezy rain.

Living in Manhattan, I got tired of umbrellas that felt disposable and finally did some searching for a better one. This has been a good investment for me, enough cover to keep my hair dry and a very attractive look as well. It feels steady in breezy rain. People have asked on the street where I got this umbrella, so its not only me noticing it. Quite reasonably priced too.

Gilbert Lynn

useful shade & easy enough to carry in my bag.

Mine goes out with me most days-rain, wind, but a lot of sun. Waiting for the bus to work, shopping... useful shade & easy enough to carry in my bag. The button is much simpler than wrestling a canopy open by hand. In wind I still pay attention to which way I'm holding it, not something I'd just leave to chance. Turning into the breeze makes it manageable. The good points easily outweigh that little bother. Got 2 more after my everyday one began looking worn(still quite usable). One for me & one for her, and both are getting regular use. Compact enough that we don't end up leaving them at home.

Dale Zamora

It's held up to that so far and looks quite sweet.

My three and a half year old has been asking for an umbrella for ages. I wanted something that felt sturdy, and this one makes her very happy. I help with the button and folding it away, but she loves having her own little bit of shelter. She even sits underneath it with her stuffed animals when we're indoors. It's held up to that so far and looks quite sweet.

Lorraine Huffman

This was for a gift, although now I'm tempted to have one too.

This was for a gift, although now I'm tempted to have one too. The cream white is a warmer colour in person than I had imagined from the pictures, but it still looks really nice. The oval handle is a detail I hadn't paid much attention to online. We tried the button when she unwrapped it and the canopy moved smoothly both ways. Can't say how it'll last, since it wasn't staying with me.

Adam Shaffer

A handy umbrella for keeping dry while I'm cheering on my team.

A handy umbrella for keeping dry while I'm cheering on my team. It doesn't seem as prone to turning inside out as others I've had this size, and the handle feels reassuringly substantial in my hand. The button makes opening it that much easier. Overall, a good one to have along on a wet game day. :-)
