Having read the comments, I'd say this is much as described.

Having read the comments, I'd say this is much as described. It gives me a decent patch of shade and I feel a little cooler under it, though I can't say how much of that is just my impression. The construction looks good overall, but the fabric feels rather thin. I wouldn't stuff it under heavy things or be too rough with it. With a bit of care I expect to get plenty of use from it. It doesn't feel like a throw-it-anywhere umbrella, but I'm happy with the value for what it cost.

It has turned out to be just that.

For anyone wondering whether the low price means a poor umbrella, our experience has been the opposite. My wife was a little doubtful when I ordered it for her, asking if it would look inexpensive in person. We've paid quite a bit more for umbrellas before, and I honestly can't see much difference in how nicely this one is put together or how it works. She wanted beige because it would look pretty on a rainy day without being fussy. It has turned out to be just that. I looked over the edges and seams and couldn't find anything untidy to complain about. Neither of us has much else to add, really. An umbrella isn't a terribly exciting purchase, but getting one that looks nice and does what you need at this price is enough to make us happy!

Monique Wilson

Lovely to look at and useful as well.

I already have two and bought another for a dear friend. She was quite emotional about it, partly just because I'd thought of her! Mine have been useful for rain and also for a bit of shade on really sunny days. After a couple of years they're still doing nicely. One press opens it, another brings the canopy in, then I push the shaft down. I'd like another for myself and can see myself giving more as presents. Lovely to look at and useful as well.

This one has been worth what I paid.

Finding decent umbrella is harder than it should be. There is always compromise, size or weight or strength. I keep this one in the car for proper rain. Compact but doesn't feel flimsy. For a light shower I still take smaller one along. This one has been worth what I paid.

THE UMBRELLA HAS BEEN MONEY WELL SPENT!!!!

My daughter was only 4 when my mother picked this umbrella for her. She's 7 now and it has seen so much use. She still wants to take it out whenever there is the slightest bit of rain. For the first couple of years it seemed like any excuse would do, even when there was hardly a drop outside! We help with closing it all the way down, but she likes being the one to press the button and get it open. I wasn't sure how something used that often would look after a while. It has held up really well and still gets chosen when she goes out. THE UMBRELLA HAS BEEN MONEY WELL SPENT!!!! My daughter is not exactly gentle with the things she owns, so seeing her get this much enjoyment and use from it has made me very pleased!!!

The beige is lovely and the loop handle is nice to hold.

My 4 yr old is delighted with this one. Nice width for keeping him covered and he can press the button to put it up. I do the last push on the shaft when we put it away. The beige is lovely and the loop handle is nice to hold. Only little wish would be beige on the inside too instead of black (though when it's up you don't see both sides at once, so not really a problem).

The rain just keeps coming...

We've been in England nearly 3 years now, my husband and me, and learnt that a cheap umbrella isn't always a saving. The rain just keeps coming...and the wind here doesn't help. During the first couple of years we got through about 5 umbrellas. Paying a bit more for this felt worth trying, and I'm glad we did! it's solid, gives a comfortable amount of room and looks smart rather than clumsy. I'd recommend spending the extra on it.

Adrian Mcconnell

No rainy outing with it yet, but the frame feels solid.

A little smaller opened out than I'd pictured, although the folded size works nicely in my bag. That's on me for not reading the dimensions properly. No rainy outing with it yet, but the frame feels solid. With the windy rain we get in Chicago, I'm hoping that sturdier feel translates into something dependable.

Doris Gallegos

She's delighted with hers and I'm just as keen on mine!!!!

Chicago wind has seen off a few of my umbrellas, so I'm glad to have found this one. Mine has been going for a couple of years and feels dependable when the weather gets blustery. My aunt in Sydney was forever grumbling about her umbrellas, so I sent her one last month as well. She's delighted with hers and I'm just as keen on mine!!!!

Karl Trujillo

Nothing complicated about it.

I reckon alot of the low reviews paint a picture I don't recognise from mine. It feels properly made and has done a fine job in rain and a little wind. My wife can fit it in her handbag, which is a big plus for her. The button is quick both ways; it shuts the canopy and then you push the shaft down yourself. Nothing complicated about it. For everyday use I think most people would be very happy, we certainly are.

This looked like a reasonable thing to try.

I was tired of umbrellas that felt flimsy in a gust, but didn't want a long one to carry around. This looked like a reasonable thing to try. Anyone walking between tall buildings in NYC knows how the wind can catch you, so I was interested to see how it would cope. It has done well so far without turning inside out. It's compact folded but opens to a useful size. A press gets it open, another press gathers in the canopy, then you push the shaft in yourself before packing it away. Straightforward enough once you've done it. It fits in a child's backpack and doesn't feel like much extra to carry. I may get a few more so everyone in the family has one.

Daryl Cervantes

I'd certainly recommend it.

Honestly, I am so pleased with this umbrella It opens out wider than I expected from something that folds down. With a baby, a purse and bags, I'm always trying to get everything under cover. This gives me useful room and feels well put together. The Cream White is just as nice as the picture too. I'd certainly recommend it.

Tiffany Dodson

All and all I'm happy with the purchase.

Seems well put together. The green one has been dependable. I got one for myself after buying one for my grown daughter for her walks in wet weather. Once the button folds the canopy, pushing the shaft back down by hand takes a bit of effort...The spring feels quite firm. There's a carry sleeve to put it in when you're not using it.It has also coped well with the moderate winds I've had it out in. All and all I'm happy with the purchase.

Candace Mathis

It feels solid and has worked nicely.

The cream white umbrella turned up as expected and everything looked fine. This was a present for my girlfriend. She was really pleased. It feels solid and has worked nicely. She's taken it out on windy days without it collapsing like her previous umbrellas. I'd recommend it, and for me it's worth the five stars.

Megan George

The umbrella looks quite stylish and it does what it says.

The umbrella looks quite stylish and it does what it says. One thing i hadn't really thought about before buying is the handle...its a closed loop rather than the usual curved sort. I kept wanting to hold it the old way ( not sure why, just habit). Once I found a comfortable grip it was fine and I do like being able to carry it by the loop. Opening is quick, you press the button, no pulling the canopy up yourself. Closing is the bit that needed more thought. The button brings the canopy in but you still push the shaft back down by hand. At first i was expecting the whole thing to shorten on its own, but thats not what it does. Nothing wrong with it, just not what I pictured. Getting all the folds lying neatly before putting it in the sleeve is a little fiddly too. All n all i like it, looks good and gives decent cover. Just allow a moment to pack it away rather than expecting one press to do absolutely everything

Abigail Mack

the extra weight isn't ideal, but the colour and cover suit me.

It is roughly 390g, so heavier than the very light one I was considering. That one didn't appeal as much for shade, though, and I preferred the pink on this umbrella with the black underneath. It's okay; the extra weight isn't ideal, but the colour and cover suit me.

Aimee Huang

I'll accept that as a win of my own :)

The first big football game my fiance and I watched together apparently set the rules for every game since. I picked my team, she decided that was a perfectly good reason to support the underdog. Didn't matter that I was doing all the shouting at the television and she barely knew who was playing. Her side won, so naturally I have not been allowed to forget any of it. There has been a whole lot of teasing since then, most of it aimed at me. This umbrella was my little joke of a gift, something useful rather than another argument about football. I wrapped it up and she was genuinely excited about it, which was a nicer reaction than I expected from my attempt at being funny. She's taken it out a few times now and keeps telling me how handy it is. I'll accept that as a win of my own :)

A lovely looking umbrella that makes grey weather a little nicer!

A lovely looking umbrella that makes grey weather a little nicer! I like the soft beige outside and the plain black underneath when I look up. It feels sturdy and nothing has given me trouble so far. The push button opening and closing of the canopy is something I especially appreciate. I'd be glad to choose this one again!

Devin Alexander

The frame and handle feel substantial rather than flimsy.

I chose this hoping for a quality umbrella, and it makes a solid first impression. The frame and handle feel substantial rather than flimsy. I particularly like the push button; it opens the umbrella and will draw the canopy closed again, leaving the telescoping pole to be pressed in by hand. That seems a sensible setup. I expect it to last well from what I've seen so far.The folded length is around 40cm, so a normal compact rather than a tiny one, and it fits in my work bags.

Cesar Stone

It fits there nicely and doesn't feel flimsy when I'm outside with it.

I have a bigger umbrella that I normally take, but this one stays in my desk for the days I get caught out by rain. It fits there nicely and doesn't feel flimsy when I'm outside with it. The sleeve is a little snug if I've hurried folding it, though that's hardly a serious complaint. A practical small automatic umbrella to have waiting at work, and I'm glad I bought it.

Brittney Avery

What I use it for most is shade.

My son saw it open and said, "Mom, that opens bigger than it looks!" That's what struck me too, although I think of it as an umbrella for one rather than the whole family. What I use it for most is shade. The black canopy gives me a patch of shade to walk under, and I like that the underside is black as well. There's no shiny surface right over my face, just a plain dark interior. I still take my usual precautions in the sun, but having that cover makes being outside more comfortable. It's not the lightest little thing in my bag, though the coverage makes the extra bit of weight worthwhile to me.

Krystal Horton

What else am I supposed to want?!

Loop handles make me happy, I really don't know why I'd pick anything else. I've had a few of these and this one's cream white. Yes, I lose stuff rather too often... Anyway, it covers us if we squeeze together as we walk, and it has that lovely closed oval handle! What else am I supposed to want?!

Rebecca Mckinney

Nice enough, just bear the size in mind.

I gave this to my sister and she liked the beige, which is fairly light. Rain has been scarce in Seattle this year so she's not had many chances to use it yet. It's a little smaller than I expected, fine for one person but two would be a squeeze. Nice enough, just bear the size in mind.

Jeffrey Haley

Rain, however, it handles very nicely.

For anyone hoping this will sort out a landslide, stop an earthquake or put out a fire, I'm afraid you'll need more equipment. Rain, however, it handles very nicely. That is the entire job I asked of it. On that rather demanding basis, I award all five stars to this extremely competent piece of keep-the-water-off equipment.

Adriana Cook

It still looks good and feels well made.

I've had mine for roughly five years, using it now and then rather than every day. It still looks good and feels well made. My main gripe is packing it away neatly. Unless I take a little time to straighten the folds, it makes a rather bulky bundle and getting the sleeve over it is more fiddly than I would like. With fairly light use, perhaps fifteen outings a year, that hasn't stopped me keeping it around. I wouldn't call it the smallest thing to put in a bag, though. UPDATE: I have since got into the habit of smoothing the fabric before fastening it, which makes putting the sleeve on much easier. Still a bit of a chore, but less annoying now. Overall I'm satisfied with it and expect to keep using it.

Terri Hicks

The button closing the canopy is handy.

Replacing one that somebody "borrowed" and apparently decided to keep. Very straightforward to use. The button closing the canopy is handy. Love the bright blue, and other people notice it too! Opens a little wider than I pictured, with a reassuringly solid feel when it's breezy.

Michelle Berry

Happy son = happy me!

My son had an umbrella he liked and we managed to leave it in a shopping cart. It never found its way back to us, so I went looking for another. Found this one and it has made a good replacement. Arrived well packed and ready to use, no fuss at all. Happy son = happy me!

Terrence Howell

Looks adorable and feels nice and solid!!

I like this one just as much. Had planned to keep the pink for myself, even though I have one already and my daughter has hers. Somehow my sister managed to claim it, but to be fair the rain was pouring when she went home with it. Looks adorable and feels nice and solid!! Now I need another for me!

Derek Pratt

Mine stays by the door until the forecast looks properly wet.

Robust is the word I'd use, although it isn't the featherweight little umbrella you forget is in your bag. Folded, it still takes up a fair bit of room compared with the really small ones. I'm happy to have it, just not as something to carry on the off chance of rain. Mine stays by the door until the forecast looks properly wet.

Gene Bryan

More suited to a bag than a pocket.

Folded, it's quite long but narrow enough to tuck into a locker or leave in the car. More suited to a bag than a pocket. It isn't something I'd choose for really wild weather, but for the money I'm happy keeping it for everyday rain. Not much trouble to carry.

Jackson Erickson

more like an adult umbrella than a flimsy little toy.

Our four year old is very keen on anything he thinks a fireman would carry, just like his dad, so he's delighted with the umbrella. The material feels quite substantial; more like an adult umbrella than a flimsy little toy. I do the opening for him. Couldn't say how it would cope in a serious wind, but for ordinary rain it has been fine. He mostly just wants another excuse to be out in the rain!

Autumn Cochran

I love the pink look of this umbrella.

I love the pink look of this umbrella. It's nice that it folds up rather than being a full length one to carry. But open it up. It's bigger than I pictured. I haven't had the chance to use it in the rain yet, so I'm still wondering how I'll manage it on a packed city sidewalk. There is never much room there. Happy with how it looks, though.

Sherry Rodriguez

Beige, but make it trouble -the good sort.

Beige, but make it trouble -the good sort. This umbrella has attitude without yelling about it. You counting ribs? Thirty, you're welcome. Colour blind? ... no big deal, the shape does the talking. Forget looking miserable in the drizzle, go out with a little style instead

Sarah Wells

I don't find this particularly light, despite its compact shape.

I don't find this particularly light, despite its compact shape. The shade is good and it covers me well, but my wrist notices the weight more than with my other umbrellas. For carrying overhead for a long time it isn't really for me. I still need to find something lighter for the sun.

Terri Cowan

A small extra step and certainly not enough to put me off, IMO.

That tells you how much I like it! The blue one has given me good rain coverage and a decent amount of room, yet it fits into my backpack. After nine years of commuting on foot, I appreciate reaching my office with dry shoulders. The button opens it and folds the canopy down too, which is handy. I'd like the stem to shorten automatically as well, rather than doing that last reset myself, but that's just how it works. A small extra step and certainly not enough to put me off, IMO.

Patty Mendoza

A useful umbrella to keep around.

A useful umbrella to keep around. It packs down neatly enough for my bag and gives reasonable coverage when open. It is, however, heavier than I wanted and takes a firm push to compress the pole after closing the canopy. Fine for quick trips, just not quite the effortless little backup I was hoping for.

Jonathan Elliott

A very useful umbrella and I'd happily recommend it!

There's a good amount of cover here without feeling like I'm carrying a huge umbrella. I'm 5'2" and it reaches far enough around me that my clothes aren't getting soaked on a normal walk. The cream white looks nice, especially with the dark underside. It's not something you can look through, so I keep the edge out of my line of sight. The button opens it and folds the canopy back down, but you still have to push the shaft in yourself. That needed a bit of practice rather than anything being wrong with it. Now it's straightforward. A very useful umbrella and I'd happily recommend it!

Brenda Lucero

There is a good substantial feel to this one.

I tend to hang onto a ratty old umbrella for ages, then demote it to the car instead of actually getting rid of it. Working is working, even if it's ugly as heck. But I wanted a smarter looking folding one with automatic action this time. It arrived yesterday, so I can't tell you about rain yet, only about opening it in the house and looking it over. (Once you've had the button doing the work, fiddling with a manual one seems like a chore). There is a good substantial feel to this one. A press opens it, another collapses the canopy, and the shaft gets pushed back by hand afterwards. Nothing difficult about it. At roughly 105cm across when open, it gives noticeably more room than the tiny umbrellas I've tucked into bags before. It's not one of those miniature things you can squeeze into any little space, but the extra cover seems a fair trade to me. And it looks so much nicer than my usual car spares! I think the price is very reasonable for the feel of it. Now all I need is some rain to justify taking it out.

Julie Stout

She's happy with hers.

The black one I use caught my mom's eye after she borrowed it. She commented on how solid it felt and liked the button opening and closing the canopy. The loop handle suited her too, so I bought another for her. She's happy with hers. There's a sleeve included, and it fits in her larger purse folded. Not the lightest compact umbrella I've had, but the more substantial feel makes that worthwhile for me.

Zachary Cantu

The green is lovely and the whole umbrella feels properly made.

The green is lovely and the whole umbrella feels properly made. Fabric has a nice substantial feel, and the button action is smooth without being awkward. I gave several as Christmas presents and everyone seemed pleased with how they looked and felt. A purchase I feel was worth the money!

Dakota Stanton

A happy little schoolgirl!

My granddaughter started kindergarten and is delighted with her umbrella! She can manage the opening button, and I help push the shaft down after the canopy closes. Feels nicely made and the sleeve is handy for putting it away once dry. A happy little schoolgirl!

Becky Foster

Finding a portable umbrella with a decent spread was a real pleasure.

Finding a portable umbrella with a decent spread was a real pleasure. I'd missed that combination for years. A full-length golf umbrella gives good cover, but I find it such a nuisance to lug around along with a briefcase. This one fits in my briefcase and still opens up wide enough to feel properly sheltered. Much easier to have with me when it's needed.

Ana Spencer

This one works for that.

Space in my bag is always tight, so having an umbrella that folds to a manageable size mattered to me. This one works for that. It feels fairly substantial for something I carry about, though not the tiniest option. I wouldn't volunteer it for tornado duty, but for our usual Seattle showers it's been quite enough...:))

Omar Snyder

Pretty umbrella.

Pretty umbrella. My daughter used to avoid taking one because she caught her fingers trying to work the catch. With this one she only presses a button to open it, which she much happier doing. I help her push the shaft down after the canopy closes. Only thing I don't like is getting it neatly into the sleeve, takes a little more fuss than I expected. Apart from that I'm very satisfy with it.

Jon Mayer

At the moment I'm happy with how everything has gone.

Just an initial comment, since I haven't taken the umbrellas out in the rain yet. They reached me earlier than I expected, which was a nice surprise! They look neatly put together and the handles seem solid. I especially like the enclosed loop shape and how easy they are to pick up. I'll add more once they've had some proper use, because the plan is to carry them every day. At the moment I'm happy with how everything has gone.

Sue Cox

Just as nice in person as pictured.

Black has always been my favorite, so the look of this suits me perfectly. Just as nice in person as pictured. The canopy gives me decent coverage without being awkward to carry.Nice to have something I enjoy using on a miserable wet day. Feels well made and I'd recommend it.

Ricardo Beck

Solid feeling but still easy to pack away...

Solid feeling but still easy to pack away...a good combination. There's a useful amount of cover once opened, without having to carry a full length umbrella. A little heavier than I'd pictured, though not a nuisance. Bought a second one after my husband kept walking off with the first!

Kurt Hogan

Handy to leave in the car or carry in a backpack.

Handy to leave in the car or carry in a backpack. Its folded size is manageable and it covers one person properly in rain. Not the lightest thing in a daily bag, but I'd rather have this than carry a huge umbrella everywhere. A sensible one to keep ready for the weather.

Guy Jefferson

A dependable umbrella.

A dependable umbrella. We get a lot of blustery weather here and it has coped nicely. I like that it feels sturdy without being awkward to carry. I'd happily buy another to have a spare. Easily one of the most satisfying umbrella purchases I've made. Very solid construction.

Jim Carlson

Those things aside, I'm pleased with it!

Went with gray - it fits into my regular messenger bag and feels well put together. My reservations are pretty small: the oval handle isn't really my style, and putting it away isn't all automatic. The canopy closes with the button, then you compress the telescoping section yourself. Those things aside, I'm pleased with it!
