The size works really well, too.

I've owned this umbrella long enough to take it through spring showers, heavy summer rain, blustery autumn weather and, most recently, sleet. Looking at it now, you wouldn't really know it had been through all that. The fabric still looks fresh, the ribs have stayed in their tips, and the button opening and closing hasn't given me any trouble. It's also stayed the right way round in some very unpleasant gusts, without any ribs giving way. Anyone who's tried getting around downtown Manhattan when the wind is funneling between the buildings will understand why that matters to me. The size works really well, too. I get enough coverage without feeling as though I'm taking up the whole sidewalk, especially when everyone coming the other way has an umbrella as well. And I get a surprising number of nice comments about it. The blue seems to catch people's attention, and the overall look gets noticed too. It's nice having something practical that people actually remark on. There are a couple of alterations I'd make if it were entirely up to me. For one, the handle feels rather long in proportion to my 5'2" self, so I tend to grip the shaft instead of the loop handle. This isn't something peculiar to this umbrella, though. I seem to have much the same issue with the proportions of most umbrellas I use. Apparently being taller would solve that particular problem. My other small gripe is where the button sits. It's wonderfully easy to reach when I want it, but unfortunately also when I don't. After pushing the shaft down by hand, I sometimes catch the button while winding the strap around the fabric, and the umbrella opens again. My solution is to keep everything gathered with one hand while fastening it with the other. Not the most comfortable little job when it's all wet. I should probably admit that my own lack of coordination could have quite a lot to do with this, rather than blame a button for being easy to get at. It is exactly where I want it during normal use. Neither of those things changes how much I like it. This is still the umbrella I reach for first, and the one I feel happiest taking out when the weather is really unpleasant.

My umbrella requirements were 1/ a button to open it

My umbrella requirements were 1/ a button to open it; 2/ enough cover for me; 3/ something that would go in my larger purses for unexpected rain; and 4/ a change from black. This mostly ticks those boxes. The cream white is lovely and I enjoy the quick opening whenever a shower catches me. It goes in the bags I normally carry, although you do notice the extra weight. Coverage is good for a compact umbrella (obviously not like my huge golf one! That's an observation, not really a complaint.) The canopy also closes with the button, then I compress the shaft. I'm tempted to pick up another colour.

Handle fits my hand nicely

More of a medium folding umbrella to me, not one of the tiny pocket ones. Goes in my shoulder bag or rucksack but there's a bit showing at the top. Spent ages looking for this sort of size, Been good on breezy walks so far and covers me properly.Handle fits my hand nicely

Worth it for the convenience.

Needed another automatic umbrella after my old one had its day. The canopy shuts with the button, though pressing the stem down to pack it away is still a bit of a chore. Worth it for the convenience. Friends tease me about how girly it looks, but I like it and it keeps me dry.

A month in and the frame still feels nice and solid.

A month in and the frame still feels nice and solid. My six-year old has taken quite a shine to this one, especially the cream white. I would have liked something a touch smaller folded for a child, but he's not bothered at all and keeps wanting to carry it. Very happy with it overall.

Good umbrella, pleased with it up to now.

Good umbrella, pleased with it up to now. The carry sleeve was included. Beige outside with black on the inside, I find this combination nice. Weight is about 390g, so it is not a very light umbrella. Folded length is around 40cm and open width about 105cm. There are 30 flexible ribs. The button operation is good. Press once to open, press again and the canopy folds in, then the telescoping part must be pressed back manually. This last part needs some strength, not something I would expect a small child to do easily. The oval loop handle is closed and sits quite well in the hand. Fabric feels substantial It gives comfortable cover when walking in rain. Two people can get underneath if they stay close, though I mostly use it alone. It folds up neatly enough to put back in its sleeve. Everything looks tidy, no loose threads or damage noticed. Satisfied with the quality.

Handy little umbrella to leave in my bag.

Handy little umbrella to leave in my bag. I live in San Francisco, where getting caught out by rain is not exactly unusual, so it is nice to have something with me instead of hoping for the best. Now, there are compromises. It isn't the tiniest folded umbrella and I wouldn't choose it for standing around outside in really rough weather. It's also enough cover for me alone, not really something I'd share. So I think of it as my just in case umbrella rather than something for every possible situation. For an unexpected shower when I'm already out, it's been useful, and that was really what I wanted from it.

Stefanie Villa

That's the only real letdown for me.

The beige is less warm than I thought from the photo, even though the colour was listed correctly. That's the only real letdown for me. It handled a moderately breezy day without the struggle I usually have with cheaper umbrellas. It's a little bulky when folded, and I wouldn't try leaning on it as a walking stick. But the cover is a good size and has kept the rain off, including when it's coming at an angle.

It's more to carry around than i expected from a compact umbrella!

It's more to carry around than i expected from a compact umbrella! There are a lot of ribs and it feels quite substantial, which is fine opened up but less fine when i'm walking about for hours. I wanted something i could forget was in my hand, not keep noticing the weight. The button opens it and folds the canopy, but you still have to press the stem in manually. That's how it's meant to work, just more effort than i personally wanted. I wouldn't call it tiny when it's folded either. it does give useful shade in direct sun and keeps ordinary rain off, so it's NOT useless. Shade doesn't change the air though(being out of the sun is nice but you can still feel hot, that's what i mean) a hot day stays hot. Also the gray looks darker to me than in the photo. not a huge problem but if you were expecting a very pale gray you might care.

Smart looking umbrella and it feels solid enough to get plenty of use.

Smart looking umbrella and it feels solid enough to get plenty of use. My one reservation is the closed loop handle. It's comfortable to hold, but I can't just rest it over my arm the way I would a curved handle. Luckily that isn't something I need very often so it doesn't bother me much.Still a VERY decent umbrella for what I paid.

Michaela Flores

She thinks it's lovely.

My daughter is 5 and wants an umbrella with her constantly, so this was for her. She thinks it's lovely. The gray is simple enough for anybody to carry, not especially girly. I wasn't sure how solid it would be, but it seems put together well. She's spent days indoors trying the button and folding it up again and nothing has given us trouble.

Manuel Ali

It still looks as nice as when I unpacked it.

Pretty umbrella, although I held off saying much about it until I had checked it over. The black looks smart, and the edges and stitching seem neatly finished. Straight from the box it felt like it would be sturdy.UPDATE TO 5 STARSHave now had it out in the rain rather than just looking at it. There is a good amount of cover and the button gets it open without any fuss. It still looks as nice as when I unpacked it. Hope to be using this for a long time because it really is a pretty umbrella.

Six months in and mine is still going fine, which is better than the cheaper ones I've had beforeI'm not sure if I baby it more when the wind gets up or if the frame is just better, probably a bit of both, still too soon for me to say much beyond that but so far it seems up to normal use

Misty Pierce

Clever design on this umbrella.

Clever design on this umbrella. The button brings the canopy in, and you still press the telescoping pole down yourself to make it compact. Has a sleeve too. Too early to make big claims about durability, but it has been fine so far. Getting the fabric wrapped neatly is the fiddly part for me and the packed result doesn't always look tidy. The loop handle also takes more room than I expected when putting it away. Not a serious problem, just something to allow for. Once you know the routine it's simple enough. Lol

Sara Meadows

I reckon it should last a good while.

Wind hasn't bothered this nearly as much as the umbrellas I had before. There's a surprising amount of cover once it's open, given how compact it folds. The stitching and rib joints look properly put together. I reckon it should last a good while. Having a button to open it and collapse the canopy has spoilt me for ordinary manual ones.Update after a year and a half: still working just fine. I keep it in the car door, where it sticks out a bit but stays put. I lost one before and went straight back for the same umbrella. Can't see myself wanting a different sort any time soon.

Melvin Ingram

So glad I got these!!

So glad I got these!! Rain was forecast all through our wedding weekend and I bought eight umbrellas at the last minute. The black worked with our wedding colors too! Enough coverage to keep everybody dry, and nobody had any trouble using the button. Would absolutely choose them again!

Hayden Lang

It looks just like the photos.

Folded up it seems quite ordinary, then the canopy pops out wider than I expected. It looks just like the photos. I gave this to my daughter for Christmas; she's at college in Boston and does a lot of walking between trains. A practical umbrella for her daily journeys, without a full length umbrella to lug around.

Mandy Kaiser

And it's really lovely to look at.

I'm the sort who hangs onto an ugly a$$ umbrella forever as long as it still works, then eventually demotes it to the emergency stash in the car. This time I wanted something nicer looking with a button for both opening and closing the canopy. (Having BOTH really spoils you for anything else). It only came yesterday, so I haven't tried it in actual rain, but the substantial feel and how easily it opens and folds make a very good first impression. My first umbrella with button closing was more expensive than this one. Open it's about 105cm across and gives noticeably more cover than my other folding ones. And it's really lovely to look at. It isn't one of those tiny umbrellas you can lose in the bottom of any bag, but folded it's still shorter than a couple I own, with a much bigger spread overhead. For what I paid I think it's very reasonable. I may finally be done carrying around umbrellas I don't even like looking at. Now I actually want a wet day so I can take it out. Maybe I need to start checking the forecast for rain instead of sunshine.

Cristian Perry

Very good umbrella.

I've taken this out on wet, blustery days when there were discarded umbrellas all over the place. It is fairly light to hold but doesn't have that flimsy feeling. There are 30 flexible ribs supporting the canopy, and the whole thing feels more substantial when it's open than you'd expect from its folded size. The rain hasn't come through and it has coped well with the wind I've encountered.Very good umbrella.

Kirsten Kelly

Happy enough with it for everyday rain.

Fits nicely in my briefcase for those unexpected spring showers. In wind it needs a firmer grip than I'd like, so I wouldn't pick it for really gusty days. The frame does have some give to it & it folded away fine afterwards. Happy enough with it for everyday rain.

Calvin Delacruz

The oval loop is handy for carrying it and hanging it up to dry.

I've had mine over two years now and it still does its job. Nothing loose, and the automatic opening is still nice and smooth. The oval loop is handy for carrying it and hanging it up to dry. Looks smart without being fussy. A good middle size, not one of those enormous umbrellas you feel awkward taking along, but not so small that you end up with wet shoulders either. It covers me comfortably, with room to squeeze someone beside me. All in all, a solid umbrella that makes a rainy walk a bit less of a chore.

Jeffery Macdonald

I would prefer a bit more coverage, especially for the price.

Has felt solid in windy weather and the button saves a lot of fiddling about. I would prefer a bit more coverage, especially for the price. Still, it seems a sensible buy if it lasts, rather than spending less on flimsy umbrellas and having to replace them all the time.

Damon Camacho

Gray umbrella with a black underside, supported by 30 flexible ribs.

Gray umbrella with a black underside, supported by 30 flexible ribs. A button raises the canopy and draws it closed again. The closed oval loop handle gives it a neat finishing detail ☂️, and the whole design looks balanced. A handsome, useful accessory that feels substantial without being unreasonably priced.

Luis Prince

I keep one handy in the car, another at work and one at home.

Unless you turn umbrella buying into a hobby, I don't see much to agonise over here. These feel solid, cover me properly, and have handled everyday rain well. I keep one handy in the car, another at work and one at home. Not exciting, just a sensible thing to have around.

Sandy Brewer

My reservation is with the appearance of the loop handle.

There is something particularly satisfying about the way this umbrella opens. The canopy spreads evenly and settles into place with a firm, positive action, giving the whole frame a reassuringly substantial feel. My reservation is with the appearance of the loop handle. It is useful, and comfortable enough, but visually it seems rather plain beside the rest of the construction. I would have preferred a more refined finish there. It is a small aesthetic complaint rather than a reason not to use the umbrella.

Robin Rubio

Still waiting to try it outdoors, the construction looks good though.

Still waiting to try it outdoors, the construction looks good though. worth knowing it has some weight to it for a folding umbrella, especially if holding things bothers your hands. There is a reasonable amount of canopy when open, plenty for me without needing an enormous umbrella.

Adriana Mclean

I like the automatic opening, and another press folds the canopy in.

I like the automatic opening, and another press folds the canopy in. I didn't realise the shaft still needed pushing down by hand, so closing it isn't quite as effortless as I expected. Once I understood that part it was straightforward. I can't judge how it'll hold up long term yet, but everything has felt secure in use and it does keep me dry.

Miguel Clarke

We're both delighted!!!!

After a couple of years using mine in Chicago, I have a lot of confidence in it. It has coped with the windy days here much better than I expected. My aunt in Sydney was always moaning about umbrellas giving up in the wind, so I bought her one last month too. Now she understands why I kept going on about mine. We're both delighted!!!!

Result = one happy parent!

We'd had a similar umbrella for my son from a little local shop. It got left behind in a shopping cart and never came back, so I went looking for another online. Found this one and it has filled the gap nicely. Arrived safely packed and everything was as expected. Result = one happy parent!

Only downside for me is the weight.

I work at a prison in California and spend a lot of my day walking outside. It's out in a valley with very little shelter, so rain doesn't necessarily come straight down & the wind seems to change direction as you walk. Umbrellas don't tend to have a long career there. I've lost count of how many I've replaced after a couple of bad gusts, including ones I paid more for hoping they would last. I wanted something sturdier, but the long pointed umbrellas aren't allowed at work, which ruled out quite a few of the ones I looked at. I ended up trying this compact umbrella and it's been a good choice so far. Open, it gives me enough coverage for those walks without feeling like I'm hauling around an enormous umbrella. It has stayed steady on the wet, windy walks so far, and I haven't spent the whole time waiting for it to turn inside out. That's a welcome change. Five people commented on it the first day I carried it, which made me laugh a little. Not usually something people stop to admire, but a decent umbrella is something you notice in this job. I passed the details along to a few coworkers who asked about it. Spending this much on another umbrella wasn't particularly appealing after replacing so many. If I get a rainy season or two out of it, though, I'll consider that money well spent. Only downside for me is the weight. It's heavier than I'd prefer for all that walking.

Sonya Meyer

Would recommend.

Carried this down the isle at my September garden wedding. Went so nicely with the vintage feel. I ended up putting it beside me on the ground at the alter, not even planned, and loved how it came out in photos. Used it for more pictures afterward too. Looks elegant. Feels well made. Would recommend.

The green looks really smart and I'm glad I bought it.

The green looks really smart and I'm glad I bought it. The handle has a nicely finished look, with that oval loop making it easy to carry in my hand. Feels quite a bit nicer than I expected for what I paid. It seems solid as well as looking good, so overall I am a satisfied buyer.

Devon Salas

That's what led me to this one, and it's been a good decision.

Nearly a year of keeping this in the car and it's still working just as it did at the start. It gets pulled out regularly, for light showers and some fairly unpleasant rain, although I haven't tried testing its limits in a serious storm. The button has been reliable, nothing sticking when opening or closing the canopy. Pushing the shaft down afterwards is straightforward too. Folded up, it's longer than something I'd want in a small handbag, but that doesn't matter in the car. Opened out, there's enough room to share in drizzle if you stay close together. In heavier rain I want the cover to myself, and even then my lower trouser legs can get wet. It's still a compact umbrella, not the big golf-sized sort, so I think that's a reasonable expectation. Rain hasn't seeped through the fabric on gusty days, and it dries off quite quickly afterwards. I do have a larger umbrella in the boot, but usually just reach for this one beside the front seat instead. Before this I seemed to be getting through small umbrellas far too often. Most felt cheaply put together and didn't inspire much confidence even when new. Using a compact umbrella that actually held up made me pay attention to what I was buying, rather than assuming they were all much the same. That's what led me to this one, and it's been a good decision. Getting close to a year out of it, with plenty of use rather than just sitting untouched, is better than I managed with several of my previous ones. I'm reasonably careful, but it doesn't get any special treatment. I can't speak for how other people use theirs when they say an umbrella lasted no time at all. Mine gets opened, used, dried and put back in the car, and so far there's nothing making me think I'll need another any time soon

For backpackers, this is a practical way to have an umbrella…

For backpackers, this is a practical way to have an umbrella available without carrying a full-length one in your hand. It folds into a manageable size for a small bag, while the open canopy is still useful for keeping rain off one person. The materials feel substantial, so I would NOT describe it as a tiny ultralight umbrella. You do notice some weight, which is worth considering if your packing space is extremely limited. I use it as something to keep in the backpack for occasional rain rather than something to carry open all day.It serves that purpose well, and I would recommend it for walkers or backpackers wanting a packable umbrella.

Kari Erickson

The action seems good and the whole thing feels quite solid.

Looks very nice and yes I tried opening it indoors as soon as I could. The action seems good and the whole thing feels quite solid. I haven't given the full five because our vacation stayed sunny, so it never actually got a proper outing in the rain. Will have to wait for that.

Derek Keller

Don't fancy running after it in the rain.

I'm so pleased with this umbrella that a few friends might be getting one as a gift.It gives the two of us decent shelter if we stay close. The button is a great help getting on and off buses.Only thing is I still keep a firm grip when the wind picks up. Don't fancy running after it in the rain.

Teresa Cisneros

She's been pleased with it, so thank you :)

A Christmas present for my 9 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it. The price seemed fair for what you get. I was a bit worried seeing the padded envelope it came in, but there was plenty of wrapping around the umbrella inside and everything arrived in good shape. She's been pleased with it, so thank you :)

Tammie Hensley

Had this a few weeks now.

Had this a few weeks now. Already taken it out several times. Its compact enough to put away easily. The spring opens it quickly, and another press folds the canopy. The ribs feel more substantial than on many small umbrellas I've used, without being rigid. Been fine in the usual rain and breezes so far. Construction seems above average. I'd recommend it.

Parker Huynh

This is good for just having there.

I like the plain black on this one . Looks nice and the button is easy for opening it and folding the canopy back down. It packs away small enough that i can leave it in my bag, which is what I wanted really. Going out for a walk I don't want to be thinking all the time about whether it might rain and if I should have brought something. This is good for just having there. When it is raining before I even leave I still reach for a bigger umbrella, I do prefer the extra cover in proper rain. But this one is handy in my bag or purse for a shower I didn't plan for. It will get me back home or across to the car without getting too wet.

Hannah Stanley

The loop handle is a nice touch and it looks lovely.

A friend gave me this when I moved from California to Seattle. Excellent idea! The size suits me, it is comfortable to carry, and it feels thoughtfully put together. A press of the button gets it open quickly, which is just what I need when the rain starts. It has felt steady on blustery days too. The loop handle is a nice touch and it looks lovely. Compared with umbrellas I've had before, this feels like a real step up. I promptly bought another to give a friend.

Kristy Frye

The frame has felt steady on breezy days.

Had enough of little umbrellas flailing about when the weather changed, so gave this one a try. It springs out smartly with a button press as I step out of the car, which is exactly when I need it. The frame has felt steady on breezy days. I like the green fabric and the oval loop handle too, simple but attractive.

For my nine year old's walk to school, this fits the bill.

For my nine year old's walk to school, this fits the bill. It goes into his backpack once folded and gives him enough cover for the journey both ways. It's compact rather than tiny, though, so it does take up a little space alongside his school things. A useful everyday umbrella, just worth checking the bag size before buying.

Devon Baldwin

An umbrella is quite a sensible option.

For sunny walks I find it useful to have some shade in addition to my usual sun protection. An umbrella is quite a sensible option. This one looks smart enough to use as a parasol, without being fussy, and the canopy gives comfortable shade. The fabric feels substantial and the oval handle is pleasant to hold. It has also been steady in a moderate breeze, which I appreciate. It's a little heavier than I would ideally like, and not the cheapest option, but overall it seems a worthwhile purchase. Very nice!(Useful for rain as well)

Christina Lane

The umbrella itself appears to be of decent quality.

Delivery took a while. The umbrella itself appears to be of decent quality. I have not tried it on the way to work yet. For ordinary use near home, it seems good value. The finish of the materials is satisfactory and the size is as described. I am satisfied and would recommend it.

Jason Bridges

She wants to carry it herself whenever rain is about.

Chose the green one for my four-year-old girl and she is thrilled with it! She wants to carry it herself whenever rain is about. I handle the button and finish folding it for her, then she takes over. There's lots of canopy above her so she stays nicely covered on our walks. That cheerful green makes a wet day feel a little brighter!

Alicia Nicholson

Out walking with my baby most days, I've found this really useful.

Out walking with my baby most days, I've found this really useful. There is a bit more weight to it than some umbrellas, but the button makes dealing with the canopy much easier when my hands are busy. Plenty of room for me underneath. Once the canopy is closed I push the shaft back down by hand, and that routine has been straightforward.

Jared White

A good choice for what we wanted.

My 2 year old kept asking for an umbrella of his own after seeing his big sister with hers. This has gone down very well. He can carry it for a little while, though I do the button and the folding for him. It is an adult umbrella so there is room for him to grow, rather than being something he will outgrow straight away. Everything has held up through several uses. A good choice for what we wanted.

Travis Lynn

Rain doesn't have to spoil the day!!!

Anyone raised in Eugene, Oregon knows that rain can become the background to your whole life. Not a little shower and then sunshine, either. Just wet, wet, wet for days.I had been wanting an umbrella that felt worth carrying instead of something I'd be wrestling with on the sidewalk. Whoever decided to put the opening on a button had the right idea!! This one has a decent grip, the canopy gives me good cover, and the frame feels reassuring rather than flimsy. It got its chance just before a stretch of soaking weather here in Denver. Out it went, and home I came without feeling like a drowned bird. No wrestling match with it at the door, either. VERY SATISFIED.I've spent enough time in rain to be fussy about umbrellas. For walking in the sort of wet weather we get, this one gets my vote. Rain doesn't have to spoil the day!!!

Allen Malone

thought it might be a bit cheap feeling for the price.

thought it might be a bit cheap feeling for the price. First thing i noticed when I opened it was how solid the frame felt. The ribs have some give rather than feeling brittle, and the canopy looks neatly attached all round. Nothing fancy to say really, it just seems a better made umbrella than I was expecting.

Julian Skinner

A good everyday umbrella.

A good everyday umbrella. Folds down neatly, feels solid and has handled wet, windy walks without much fuss. I try to face it into the wind rather than let it catch underneath; you still need some common sense, it's an umbrella not a shield. It lives in my work bag and doesn't take over the whole bag. Also, the price is more than I'd usually pay, which is my only real reservation.
