I've had this out on several wet days, going back and forth to work downtown, and it has kept me dry throughout the usual commuter shuffle. It folds down enough to go in my laptop backpack, with the sleeve stopping it getting tangled up with everything else in there. Getting it out and opened when the rain suddenly starts is straightforward. Between buildings where the wind catches you, it has felt steady rather than like it's going to fold itself the wrong way. So far it has done everything I needed from a commuting umbrella, and I am satisfied with it.

I can see myself using this for a good long time!
With the welcome rain we recently had in California, I found my old umbrella wasn't much use. I'm glad I picked this one, it looks lovely and is so smooth to operate! Really stylish, and deciding between all the nice options took some thought. I can see myself using this for a good long time!

The appearance is every bit as nice as I hoped.
Promptly received this stylish umbrella, with shade being the main reason for choosing it. The appearance is every bit as nice as I hoped. Feels well constructed and everything operates as described. I will be carrying it in the Australian sunshine and happily mentioning where I found it if anyone asks. Thank you.

This one has stayed the right way round!
It's been out with me several times in South Florida rain, including wind that would usually have me fighting an umbrella. This one has stayed the right way round! Just bear in mind the weight if you're going to be holding it up for ages. You do start to notice it.

Closed, it doesn't take over my bag, which is perfect!
I wanted this as a parasol for my dressier outfits, but it gets used constantly in the hot southwest summer... The gray goes with what I wear & the open canopy shades my shoulders nicely. Closed, it doesn't take over my bag, which is perfect! Good value beside the fancy parasols I looked at, and I'm already tempted to get another!

Love having this umbrella!
Love having this umbrella! Its solid and looks nice too. Watching the kids play baseball is much nicer with some shade overhead, and it has kept the rain off when the weather changed. I can squeeze one of the kids beside me under it. SO PLEASED WITH IT!A shoulder strap would be useful, but I've been putting it in my old yoga mat carrier...works fine that way

Has felt steady in the breezy rain I've had so far, too.
I'm almost pleased when it starts raining now, just for an excuse to use this. Pushing the opening button is oddly satisfying and it feels nice and definite, not fiddly. There's enough cover for me without having to keep shifting it about. Has felt steady in the breezy rain I've had so far, too. A quick shake before going in gets most of the drops off. Seems well built and something I'll keep around for ages.

black can still be cute,....
black can still be cute,....and yes I'm one of those people who cares what I look like even when its raining. This one has a neat shape and doesn't look all bulky in my hand. I dn't spend ages wandering around in wet weather, mostly just getting where I'm going, so looking nice matters to me too. The feel isn't super fancy, I'll admit that, but I wasn't trying to spend a fortune either. U can have practical without looking boring, that's all I'm saying. No bright pattern here, just black, which actually goes with everything I wear. I can't say what it'll be like years from now and I'm not taking it out in a gale to find out. For my little rainy outings though, very cute and I'm happy.

Her previous one was a handful when the wind got up.
My daughter walks between the train station and work, so I wanted an umbrella she'd actually be happy carrying. Her previous one was a handful when the wind got up. Automatic opening and a button to shut the canopy were on her list too. This one suited what she needed without being awkward to take along. She called after trying it and said "I'm so glad you got me this umbrella".
Monique Allen
She absolutely LOVES this umbrella!
My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter is all about pink right now! She absolutely LOVES this umbrella! The pink looks as pretty as it did in the picture and there's good cover when we're together. She's so excited about using it, and I'm looking forward to our next rainy walk.

Cream white is a colour I always go for, and this looks so nice!
Cream white is a colour I always go for, and this looks so nice! The button needs a proper push rather than the tiniest touch, which suits me. My previous umbrella used to spring open when I brushed against its button, so I would rather have this. If you want something that reacts to a very light tap, you might feel differently. The sleeve is the one part I probably won't bother with (I generally leave those in a drawer anyway). I can get it back on if I fold the fabric neatly, but I don't usually have the patience for that when I'm heading indoors. Just something to consider if you always put yours away in its cover.I've had it out in the rain a few times now and it's done exactly what I needed. No wet head, no fuss with opening it. I'm enjoying using it!
Darrell Christian
Still, it feels sturdy and fits in my computer bag for work.
Four stars, though that's more about what I wanted than anything wrong with it. I knew the stem had to be pushed in by hand after using the button, but now I've tried it I do wish that bit happened by itself too. Still, it feels sturdy and fits in my computer bag for work. I've carried it around for two months and only needed it three times so far. Perhaps taking an umbrella along is the trick to making the rain stay away?

Opening this up cheers me up, the blue is such a nice colour.
Opening this up cheers me up, the blue is such a nice colour. It feels well made, the canopy opens and draws in smoothly with the button, and there's a useful amount of cover. I do like light umbrellas that disappear into a small handbag, but I'm never completely confident in them once the wind starts. They can be rather mean on space overhead too. This one takes more room and weighs more, so you have to decide between the smallest thing you can carry and something more substantial. For me the extra cover wins. I also like being able to hang it by the oval loop afterwards (much handier than finding somewhere to lean it)
Taylor Conrad
) This seems nicely made and works well.
I spent a while looking for an automatic umbrella that wasn't enormous and had a handle I could get a proper hold of. (For keeping in the car and taking to work events.) This seems nicely made and works well. The oval loop is different from a hook, but practical. My small complaint is the black is rather plain; I'd have liked something a little less severe.
Cristina Meyers
We both think it's lovely.
My 2 year old spotted this and wanted it straight away. She's fascinated by the loop handle and likes seeing it pop open. I work the button for her and we still have the discussion about not opening umbrellas indoors. There is good cover for us when we're out together, and it feels sturdy enough to last a good while. We both think it's lovely.
Blake Johns
funny how an ordinary umbrella gets noticed.
I like an umbrella that isn't a nuisance to carry around, and this one folds away so neatly. Took it to work once and 3 of the girls wanted to know where I'd found it... funny how an ordinary umbrella gets noticed. I ended up getting one each for them for Christmas. Really pleased with it!
Bethany Case
It handled those well and I was pleased with the coverage.
My old automatic umbrella has given me years of use and is only now beginning to show its age. That is why I started looking at replacements, although I wasn't ready to put the old one away just yet. Reading everyone's comments helped me decide to try this one. For a while after it arrived I didn't have any weather to test it in, then we finally had some wet and windy days. It handled those well and I was pleased with the coverage. The automatic opening is handy and it feels like a sensible replacement for the one I've relied on so long. I'm keeping the old umbrella as a spare until I've had more time with this, but the start has been good. Thanks to everyone who took the time to write about theirs.
Tabitha Booth
Definitely recommended.
After moving to Boston I wanted something less flimsy than the umbrellas I'd been fighting with in the wind. This one feels much more substantial and has stayed the right way round so far. It gives me useful cover without having to hide my whole face underneath, which helps when the pavement is full of other umbrellas. Definitely recommended.
Janet Andrews
Very satisfied with the size and weight.
For the size of it when open, there's surprisingly little to lug around. I guess pink wouldn't be every man's choice. However, I don't find it an issue carrying this one about. It looks good, and I would rather have a manageable umbrella that does its job than something enormous just for the sake of it. Very satisfied with the size and weight.
Roberta Ford
This one has been a good choice for that.
My two year old wants an umbrella whenever her older sister carries hers. I wanted something I could manage easily while keeping her beside me, rather than letting her fiddle with the mechanism. This one has been a good choice for that. I press the button to open it and hold it over us; she gets to feel included without being in charge of the whole thing. Putting it away is a button press followed by resetting the shaft by hand. The gray looks nice too. Not a tiny children's umbrella, but it's worked well for our little arrangement.
Caroline Merritt
Not enough to put me off.
I have a regular umbrella already, but this one stays in my desk for the rainy days I haven't planned for. It's a handy size and has felt steady in the breezes I've used it in. My only small criticism is the visible stitching, which isn't especially neat to look at, although it all seems secure. Not enough to put me off. For a small umbrella that opens automatically, I think it's a very good choice.

After years of plain umbrellas getting mixed up with other…
After years of plain umbrellas getting mixed up with other people's by the door, it's nice having one I can recognise straight away. The closed loop handle is different enough to pick out easily, so less chance of an innocent mix up. It isn't the biggest umbrella once open, but the distinctive look appeals to me more than having a huge one.
Fernando Ortega
This umbrella has been very good for that.
I needed something that would REALLY cover my shoulders and bag, not just keep the very top of me dry. This umbrella has been very good for that. I've stayed comfortable in the rain, and it feels well supported when a breeze comes through. The button opening also helps when I'm already carrying things. However, I have two reasons for giving four rather than five stars:1. It does fold shorter, but that doesn't make it small enough for my everyday handbag. For an all-day outing when rain is only a possibility, I would prefer not to have another thing to carry. The loop handle is useful, just not quite the same as putting it away and forgetting about it. Weather forecasts are not helping me decide either.2. Drying it out is a bit of a nuisance. I leave it open before packing it away, which means finding space for the full canopy when I get indoors instead of immediately putting everything away.Otherwise it has done what I wanted. These are storage annoyances rather than concerns about staying dry, and I would recommend it to anyone who has room for it when folded.
Madison Pineda
An umbrella never used to be my first choice.
An umbrella never used to be my first choice. I have a rain hat, a proper one, not a little thing that comes folded in plastic. Then there is school bus duty, standing out in the pouring rain, and a hat only does so much. Blue is a favourite, so I liked this one straight away.It gives me enough cover while I'm waiting out there, and the automatic opening and canopy closing are a pleasure to use. I may be turning into an umbrella person after all. Now I just need some rainy day dancing skills.
Donna Garrett
A very sweet looking umbrella.
A very sweet looking umbrella. The green has a lovely bright look and my granddaughter is so pleased with it. I wanted something cheerful for her and the appearance is just what I hoped for. It feels nicely finished too, which matters as much as looking pretty. The pictures were a fair guide to the colour and shape, so opening the parcel held no unwanted surprises.Arrived promptly and everything was in order. I would certainly recommend this umbrella.
Francis Whitney
I LOVE carrying this umbrella!
I LOVE carrying this umbrella! Went for green and it makes a dreary wet day feel a bit less dull. The quality has been a lovely surprise. The button action is smooth and the canopy hasn't flipped during use. It fits in my bag afterwards without taking over the whole thing. At this price I wasn't expecting quite so much, but it feels properly made rather than flimsy. Would gladly recommend it if you're after a good everyday umbrella.
Robyn Hayes
so I decided an umbrella was a more practical present anyway.
My boyfriend has wanted a proper sword for ages, which is beyond what I can spend. He's recently moved to a very rainy place...so I decided an umbrella was a more practical present anyway. Nothing like a sword, obviously, but this has gone down really well. He was delighted with it!
Jenny Tate
I can see myself using it for a long time.
Rain is pretty much part of everyday life here in the Pacific Northwest. Still, there's rain, and then there's the kind that comes down in sheets. For that second kind I wanted a really good umbrella, and went with Haven. This feels a whole lot more substantial than a cheap, shaky one. I can see myself using it for a long time. It opens without a fuss and the canopy closes quickly. I feel confident taking it out in a downpour and having it keep me dry.
Cynthia Roberson
I'm happy we settled on this one.
This one has made rainy outings much more fun! My boy is nearly 3 and wants a turn holding it every time. I work the button and help him hold the loop, rather than letting him wrestle with the whole thing himself, but he still feels involved. It pops up quickly and there is plenty of room for him beside me. The sleeve is handy too, just a simple way of keeping the folded umbrella tidy once it's dry. Not having loose fabric flapping about when we carry it indoors is nice. The whole umbrella has a substantial feel without being a chore for me to hold. The only things i'd change are little appearance things really - it looks rather long when folded, so the proportions aren't quite as neat as i imagined, and the pink is a little brighter than my own taste - but none of that bothers a small child who is delighted to be under an umbrella. He is interested in the rain and having a turn, not whether the shape looks elegant! I'm happy we settled on this one.

A practical, sturdy umbrella that I feel was money well spent.
This is the second umbrella I've bought for the same sort of use. My first one was longer, and I realized I also wanted something I could leave in a backpack. Umbrellas get a fairly hard life in our family, between the rain, blustery walks and the way the children put them away. This compact one has stood up well so far, which is what matters to me. It has enough substance to feel dependable without being awkward to carry. Don't mistake compact for tiny, though. It goes into my backpack comfortably, but I wouldn't expect it to disappear into most small handbags. The sleeve helps keep it together when stored, and the oval loop is easy to grab. The appearance is smart too. A practical, sturdy umbrella that I feel was money well spent.
Karla Kerr
I LOVE using this as a sunshade.
I LOVE using this as a sunshade. I have to watch how long I spend in direct sunshine, and having an umbrella I like carrying makes that a little easier. It looks lovely held up and gives me a comfortable patch of shade. The frame seems solid too. I'd happily recommend it to someone who wants an umbrella for sunny days as well as wet ones.
Wyatt Campbell
I gave this a proper rain test during a downpour in Ecuador.
I gave this a proper rain test during a downpour in Ecuador. No wet shoulders. The button action is smooth, and the pink canopy opens promptly without needing any fiddling. There is a lot to appreciate here if you pay attention to how an everyday object is put together. One reservation. The oval loop handle is handy to carry, but I would prefer a more comfortable gripping surface. I dropped it on concrete and left a small mark, which made me wish a little more attention had gone into that part. It still works perfectly; this is about feel and finish rather than whether it keeps the rain off. For the money, I would have accepted a slightly higher price for a handle that felt better in my hand. Overall, a capable umbrella, with the handle being the one thing I would change.
Jake Kramer
I love how this umbrella looks, especially the blue.
I love how this umbrella looks, especially the blue. A quick press gets it open and there is a decent amount of room underneath. Packed down, it goes into my tote without the nuisance of carrying a long umbrella separately. The frame doesn't have that flimsy feel I associate with some folding ones. I usually choose a full-length umbrella because the smaller versions so often leave my shoulders wet, but this has been good for me in normal rain. It is nice to have a compact option that I actually want to use.

These are surprisingly fun umbrellas that oval loop handle gets comments whenever my family sees it Nice looking but useful too and it feels properly put together I have been getting them for family members as well and already have more in mind for Christmas because everyone seems to want their own now

It arrived in time for my daughter's birthday - perfect timing.
It arrived in time for my daughter's birthday - perfect timing. She loves having her own umbrella and pressing the button to open it. I push the shaft back down for her after the canopy closes. Worth the $$ for a little one who's always wanting to borrow my umbrella.

an umbrella is an umbrella, not a shield against everything.
I've been carrying this around New York for roughly a year now and it has earned its place in my bag. Winter, spring, those gusty corners near the Hudson... it has had plenty to deal with. Drivers who think the crosswalk belongs to them are another matter.I wanted something that didn't feel like it would give up the minute the weather changed. This has more weight than the tiny umbrellas I've owned, but that is a trade I can live with. The loop handle gives me something decent to grip, and folded up it still fits in my usual bag.The ribs have some give to them. When a gust catches the canopy I can feel it move rather than just fighting against a completely rigid frame. I still lower it if the wind is getting silly; an umbrella is an umbrella, not a shield against everything. For the wet walks I actually do, though, it's been excellent. The button is handy when I'm coming in off the street, and pushing the telescoping section in afterwards is straightforward. Not the lightest option. But I wanted something substantial, and that is what I got. Money well spent.
Dillon Fowler
Not too much weight to carry about either.
I love carrying this at the university campus where I work. Everyone that see it says how nice it looks. Goes with me between buildings and gives a comfortable patch of shade on hot days. Not too much weight to carry about either. Really glad I got this for everyday use.
Malik Wu
I just appreciate having shade I can take with me.
With very fair skin and living in Hawaii, I use sunscreen daily and generally have a folding umbrella with me, for sunshine as much as rain. I wanted something more substantial this time, and this has been a very good choice. There's a generous patch of shade underneath and it makes being outside feel much more comfortable. It's a little heavier and takes up more room than the tiny umbrellas I've carried before, but the coverage makes that worthwhile for me. I'm still careful about the sun and keep using sunscreen; I just appreciate having shade I can take with me. In a light breeze it feels fairly steady too, though obviously there is a point where I'd put any umbrella away.
Diamond Bradshaw
Happy with them so far.
Compact when folded and not much trouble to carry, but it feels quite sturdy. This replaces the umbrella I had been using before. There was a slight new smell at first; leaving it open for a day took care of that. I've also got one for each child's school bag. Happy with them so far.
Monique Obrien
Very impressed with this umbrella.
Very impressed with this umbrella. Feels solid, gives me plenty of cover and the button works without a fuss. Happy to recommend! My only doubt was the colour when I unpacked it. The beige is quite pale and I wasn't sure it was for me! But out on the course in the rain, the others had no trouble picking me out, which turned out handy.I've ended up liking it much more than I expected. A very good buy and well worth having!!!

my co worker used to moan about umbrellas not standing up to the wind.
my co worker used to moan about umbrellas not standing up to the wind. A few winters on and he's still carrying this one.The ribs have some give to them and the whole thing feels very, very solid. It isn't the lightest umbrella to carry around, but he has been happy with it through rainy weather. Good product. I'd have one myself except my umbrellas get left behind every where I go. It costs a little more, but If you're someone who hangs onto your things it's money well spent.
Robin Choi
It makes pleasant shade in the sun.
Turned up a few days after ordering. The cream white canopy looks very nice and the finish feels smooth. It makes pleasant shade in the sun. The ribs feel firm and the button mechanism works properly both ways. To put it away completely, the telescoping shaft needs a fairly firm push by hand after the canopy shuts. It took me a moment to get used to that. Overall it feels like a solid umbrella and I am satisfied.
Candice Marshall
My reason for stopping at four stars is the coverage.
After two umbrellas that were awkward in different ways, I was more interested in how this one handled than in how it looked. One was so heavy that holding it steady when the wind caught it was tiring, and it could turn inside out, even though it recovered. The other wasn't much of an improvement for everyday carrying. That was my starting point with the Haven.
There is noticeably less effort involved with this one. It feels manageable in my hand, and in the windy rain I've used it in so far the canopy has kept its shape. My reason for stopping at four stars is the coverage. The folded size is convenient, but overhead I would appreciate a little more width. With the frame above my head, I can't bring it down quite as close around my shoulders as I would like. I would still choose something larger for prolonged rain.
Closing deserves a separate mention because that has been an awkward part of using my previous umbrellas. This one is easier, although it isn't an entirely one-handed process. Pressing the button folds the canopy, and then I use both hands to push the telescoping shaft back to its starting position. That last step takes a push, but I haven't needed to brace it against anything. Once I understood the two separate actions, it seemed straightforward enough.
On balance, I think the compromise is a reasonable one. I can put it in a tote without feeling that I've brought a large umbrella along just in case. It isn't weightless, but it is comfortable enough to carry on a day when rain is only a possibility. If I knew I would be walking in rain for a long time, the extra coverage of a bigger umbrella would matter more to me than saving space in my bag.
A couple of smaller things: the enclosed oval handle gives me a useful place to hold it when folded, rather than having to carry it around the middle. The sleeve is also handy for keeping the folded fabric together in my bag. I do let everything dry before putting it away, so there is still the question of finding room for an open umbrella at home. That is less convenient than carrying it, but hardly unusual. For occasional rain and everyday carrying, I'm happy with it; I just wouldn't expect this compact size to replace a larger umbrella in every situation.
Yvonne Mcdonald
I've become quite attached to this umbrella!
I've become quite attached to this umbrella! The construction is lovely and I've already needed it several times. Opens without a struggle, and a second button press gathers the canopy neatly. Folded away it's a handy little size. An easy recommendation from me.
Frederick Ruiz
For the money this is a surprisingly good umbrella.
For the money this is a surprisingly good umbrella. It's not a very mysterious invention, basically fabric stretched over supports, you could probably put something together yourself with enough patience and some sticks. This one is a lot more convenient than doing that. The ribs have some give in them, which I like better than something completely rigid. I also keep thinking of other things to do with it. You could move some air around with it in the house, although that is a rather large hand fan. My main idea is catching berries. Picking every single berry is tedious and I keep dropping the ones I get hold of. Held upside down underneath the branches, this gives them somewhere to land instead of disappearing into the grass. A mat would work but doesn't have sides. All in one place!I tried pouring a glass of water over the outside too and it just ran off. Of course it works for actual rain as well. Funny how you can own umbrellas and not think of these things.
Darryl Blair
nothing especially complicated about that.
Initial impression is of a fairly substantial umbrella, with a frame that looks capable of coping with breezy weather and being left in the back of the car between outings. I'll add to this if that impression changes, but for not much more than my last budget purchase I'm quite pleased. The loop handle is solid and gives me a comfortable grip without needing to clutch a tiny knob. Release action is positive, not that alarming violent 'snap' some umbrellas have when opening. Another press brings the canopy down, then you compress the telescoping part manually; nothing especially complicated about that. Fabric seems a sensible compromise between substance and bulk / getting the whole thing packed away. The included 'sleeve' is rather basic and takes a little patience to get back on. Not a big concern to me, since if history is anything to go by I'll put the thing down somewhere and forget where it went the first time I need the umbrella anyway...

I chose this umbrella as a present.
I chose this umbrella as a present. I was after a blue one that would be easy to carry, and from the pictures I thought it would fold down a bit smaller than it does. That's my reason for four stars; the photos don't give much sense of scale. It is still portable, just not quite what I had pictured. Having said that, the quality was a pleasant surprise. The frame feels much more substantial than some of the umbrellas I've looked at in shops, and the oval handle is solid and nicely shaped. I wasn't sure about that shape at first, but it sits well in the hand. The blue is attractive without being too flashy, which is what I wanted for a gift. It opens promptly with the button and gives a good amount of cover once up. I would recommend it, with the size in mind. The person who received it was delighted, so that was the important thing.
Dean Meyers
This is such a sweet umbrella (and a useful size)!
This is such a sweet umbrella (and a useful size)! It feels nicely made as well. I pictured a softer pink, whereas this looks a little brighter to me. It was intended for a table display at my business, though, and once I put everything together the pink actually worked beautifully with the rest of the display.
Darryl Lara
I'd happily recommend it to someone who travels.
A full length golf umbrella just won't go into my suitcase, so a folding one made sense. I travel quite a bit for recruiting and golf tournaments and don't want rain to catch me unprepared. This fits with my luggage and still gives me useful cover when opened. Has handled some windy weather well.I'd happily recommend it to someone who travels.
Katie Campos
Very happy with it :)
So I spend a lot of time getting to work on buses and trains, and standing around in the rain is not my favorite part. My hair is curly and I wear it natural, so pulling a hood over it usually means arriving with a completely different hairstyle than I left with. This umbrella has enough cover to keep me and my hair dry in normal rain, which is really all I wanted! The button opening means I don't spend ages getting it ready. It does feel a little heavier than I expected when folded, but not enough to put me off carrying it. I can hold it where I need it without hiding my face under a hood. Very happy with it :)
