Check it against your own bag before deciding it's a small umbrella :)

I wanted a folding umbrella that looked cute, so my first reaction on opening this was hang-on-that's-not-so-little. It is compact compared with a long umbrella, sure, but not the tiny handbag thing I had pictured. Some people will probably be delighted with how much room there is underneath it. For me it means thinking about which bag I'm taking rather than just throwing it into any old purse. The quality feels good (I've only taken it out in gentle rain so far), and it certainly covers me well. The black canopy looks quite plain in person, not bad at all, just less dressy than I somehow imagined from the picture. Would I still buy it? Probably, because it feels useful and I'm happy overall, I just wish I'd paid more attention to the folded size first. Check it against your own bag before deciding it's a small umbrella :)

The solid feel is worth that small extra step.

Why does choosing a colour make such a difference to the price? That was my first thought when I went to replace the black one I had lost after years of use. I wanted the same again, but noticed the other shades weren't all priced alike. A bit odd, isn't it? I could save something by choosing another colour, but black is the one I actually want.I do love the way it opens. When I'm getting out of the car into rain, a press of the button and there it is, ready before I've properly stepped outside. Closing isn't quite the whole process at a touch: the button folds the canopy, and I compress the telescoping section by hand before it is ready to open again. A little extra motion, but it soon becomes a habit. The solid feel is worth that small extra step. So after all that debating about a few dollars, I am probably going to choose black again. Sensible? Maybe not, but I know what I like.

Definitely pleased with this choice!

After trying a couple of umbrellas, I think this one is the keeper! I wanted something that gave decent coverage without being awkward to carry once it was put away. There is room for me and my bag underneath, which was one of the main things I was looking for. I have taken it out a few times, including in some gusty rain, and it kept its shape without turning inside out. That is only a few outings, of course, but it has made a good impression so far. I picked Cream White. It has a soft, simple look that I find quite smart, and I am glad I went with that color. The ribs have some give rather than feeling completely rigid. The button opens it quickly and pulls the canopy closed again, then I compress the shaft to put it away. Once folded, it goes into my larger purse without a struggle. For the coverage it gives, it is surprisingly convenient to bring along. Definitely pleased with this choice!

A good umbrella for the money.

A good umbrella for the money. The frame looks properly put together; I wouldn't go testing any folding umbrella in extreme winds though. Packed down, it slips into the bottle space in my bag without a struggle. Button operation is simple and it doesn't take much fuss to put away.

Such a lovely umbrella.

Such a lovely umbrella. Pretty pink, a nice oval handle, and easy button action. Much less chance of somebody deciding it's THEIRS in a restaurant because it isn't the usual dark umbrella (that's where my previous one vanished! Gives me excellent cover from the rain!

Arrived quickly and the green fabric looks very nice in person.

Arrived quickly and the green fabric looks very nice in person. The finishing is neat and it feels properly made. Anyone wanting something featherlight may find it a little weighty, though I don't mind for normal use. There's a decent amount of space underneath once opened.

Nice to have an umbrella that does the job and looks good doing it.

Starting a job in the city meant I suddenly needed an umbrella for the walk between the train and my office. I wanted one that looked a little nicer without giving up practicality, and this seemed right. The construction felt more substantial than I expected when I first opened it. Its first outing was a really wet, blustery day, the sort where keeping hold of an umbrella takes some effort. People around me were fighting with theirs while I managed to keep my shirt and jacket dry. My lower half didn't escape everything, but I got to my meeting looking reasonably presentable rather than soaked through. It feels like money well spent for something I now need on that walk. Nice to have an umbrella that does the job and looks good doing it.

I can get it outside and open using one hand.

We needed a replacement after leaving our last compact umbrella somewhere. Folded, this one is short enough to keep in the car, although the bundle is a little wider than some we've had. The canopy feels well supported and gives good coverage without being awkward to hold. Opening it with the button is particularly handy when I'm still sitting in the driver's seat with the door open. I can get it outside and open using one hand. Coming back to the car, another press gathers the canopy before I climb in. The remaining job is pressing the telescoping sections together by hand.

Still manageable to carry folded.

Living just outside Boston means an umbrella gets plenty of use, with rain and wind often arriving together. I wanted one that felt a little more substantial than the small ones I usually carry, and so far this has been very good. The button makes opening it quick, and the ribs have coped well with the windy days I've had it out. It opens wider than I pictured, enough for someone to squeeze alongside me, but I dont find that a problem. Still manageable to carry folded. For the money it feels like a well made umbrella, and I'm hoping it stays with me a long time.

The sleeve is a useful touch too!

Finding something different for her was getting difficult, so I went with this beige umbrella rather than another of the usual gifts. She was delighted with it, and I thought it looked nicely finished when I checked it over. The sleeve is a useful touch too! I'd happily choose another one after seeing how much she liked this.

Nichole Maxwell

She is very pleased with the whole arrangement.

My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter was absolutely thrilled to have an umbrella of her own. It feels sturdy and quite substantial, so I hold it with her and take care of opening it. She is very pleased with the whole arrangement. It has a lovely simple look, and the oval handle is comfortable for me to hold. There is a good amount of cover once it is up - not a little toy umbrella at all. I was delighted with how nicely made it seems, and even more delighted by how much she likes it.

Randy Owens

My friend is delighted with the umbrella.

Chose this for a friend who LOVES an understated design. Smart looking without being flashy, and opens to a generous size. The parcel was ridiculously oversized, with enough paper to wrap several more umbrellas; a shame to use so much, but that's separate from the product. My friend is delighted with the umbrella.

Alexis Best

When it's up, though, the coverage is really good.

Seems well built, no argument there... but it's chunkier than I had in mind. At about 40cm folded, it won't fit the umbrella pocket on my laptop backpack... It's heavier than my tiny folding one too. When it's up, though, the coverage is really good. Not enormous, just a proper useful size. I do like it, only wish packing it in my bag was a little easier...

Amber Pierce

Was expecting something a little flimsy because it folds up so…

Was expecting something a little flimsy because it folds up so neatly and looks quite cute, but it feels much more substantial in person. Once open there's a proper amount of cover, not that tiny little roof you sometimes get with a folding umbrella. No chance to try it in rain yet with this dry spell, so I may end up testing it under the sprinkler

Helen Austin

Turned out better than expected.

The plain black look was mainly what made me choose this umbrella (nothing too fussy...) and I've used it a lot over the past year. At first the cloth and moving parts seemed fairly ordinary, not something I'd call premium, so I wondered how long it would go on... It is still opening and closing properly and hasn't lost its looks. I wouldn't take it out expecting miracles in a storm, but for normal breezy rain its been fine. Turned out better than expected.

Alex Osborn

It lives in my backpack now, ready for the next wet day.

Winter around here has meant a lot of wet, blustery trips across the campus where I work. In the few weeks I've had this, it has made waiting at the bus stop considerably less miserable. I've watched people struggling to keep their umbrellas settled while mine has been quite manageable, which does make me feel a little smug. It isn't something I'd take into a really severe storm, but for the rain I actually have to walk through it has been excellent. A couple of people have asked about it, mostly because it folds up rather than being a great long umbrella. It lives in my backpack now, ready for the next wet day.

Kari Spence

Glad I have it handy when I'm out there.

I use this for a bit of shade when I stop the tractor during summer grass cutting. My medication means I have to be careful in the sun, so having something I can hold over me is helpful. It shades me nicely without being an enormous umbrella. Glad I have it handy when I'm out there.

Renee Wheeler

I was genuinely delighted when I unpacked this umbrella.

I was genuinely delighted when I unpacked this umbrella. It has a much nicer look than the plain everyday ones I normally pick up, and the oval handle gives it a little character. If you want something practical that doesn't look completely ordinary, I think this is worth the extra spend. I'm pleased I went for it.

Tyrone Christensen

I was looking for something to use mainly for shade.

I was looking for something to use mainly for shade. After having a few skin cancers removed from my face, spending less time with the sun directly on it seemed sensible. My first choice never arrived, so after the refund I had to look again. This umbrella appealed because I can carry it for sunny days and still have it ready if rain starts. I also rather like the closed oval handle. It looks neat, and the whole umbrella has a simple, smart appearance without being fussy.

Sheena Blankenship

Such a nice looking umbrella.

Such a nice looking umbrella. A couple of people have stopped me to ask where it came from, which never happened with my old one. Anyone who enjoys having a nice umbrella instead of a plain afterthought will appreciate it. I'm delighted every time I take it out. Bring on the rain!!!

Oscar Nichols

Thank you from a VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER

Couldn't have picked a better Father's Day gift. My husband is delighted with it and I think it's even nicer than I'd expected. I would choose the same one again without a second thought. He is that pleased with his umbrella he actually dries it after every use:)That says plenty.Thank you from a VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER

These are easy to carry and open quickly when needed.

I chose gray umbrellas for the staff at Christmas and they were well received. I wanted a useful present that was fair for everyone, not something too personal, and didn't cost a fortune. They have a decent walk between the parking garage and the office, so an umbrella made sense. These are easy to carry and open quickly when needed. The plain colour also seemed a good choice for a group rather than guessing everyone's taste

Marcia Morrison

It feels lighter than my old large umbrella.

Taking an umbrella to my daughters' sports events usually means trying not to knock people beside me in the bleachers, especially when a breeze catches it. This one is much less of a handful than the big umbrellas I've used. There is enough canopy to give me shade, but not so much sticking out over the next seat, and it feels comfortable to hold. Folded down, it is less awkward to take along as well. It feels lighter than my old large umbrella. I love having something more manageable and wish I'd made the change earlier!

Tommy Wells

Oval handle is decent looking and good to hold

My Mom was searching for an umbrella since couple weeks, so I surprised her with this one. Looking at reviews and the simple gray style made me think to buy it. She was quite normal until opening it, then she was really impressed with the construction.Pros: 1. Nice appearance 2. Feels well built, no cheap feel in the material 3. Opens wide enough to cover yourself properly 4. Auto opening and canopy closing is convenient, the telescoping stem needs pressing down with hand afterwards, no issue 5. The gray finish looks neat 6. Oval handle is decent looking and good to hold 7. Flexible frame seems a sensible construction 8. Folds to a manageable size for carrying 9. Plain design but still eye pleasing 10. Quality is apparent as soon as opened Cons:Nothing so far. Worth buying. May get a couple more in this or another colour.

Carl Bell

Good cover for one and probably two if you're close.

Good cover for one and probably two if you're close. only thing i'm unsure about is the oval loop handle, which feels fine but is a different shape from what i usually like. i prefer a slimmer grip, so that's something i'd look at next time, although the umbrella itself does a perfectly good job of keeping me dry.

Jill Schmidt

My new umbrella looks lovely.

My new umbrella looks lovely. It's wider opened up than I'd pictured, so two of us could squeeze underneath if necessary. I like the simple appearance and how solid it feels. The weight is the one drawback; I notice it when it's in my purse all day. Even so, I'm glad I ordered it and think it was worth the money.

Jake Pitts

Seems quite well made.

Seems quite well made. the fabric is lighter than I expected and I wouldn't want to be rough with it, but for normal use it seems fine. The button makes getting it up and the canopy down easy. and there's enough room underneath to keep me properly covered in rain.

Gary Woods

A really good umbrella for the money.

A really good umbrella for the money. Here in Brooklyn the wet weather can get pretty blustery, and mine has coped without flipping on my walks. That's a big improvement over the flimsy umbrellas I've had before. The coverage is good too, so I'm not arriving soaked. Having a button to open it is a bonus. Would DEF recommend.

Rebecca Floyd

Not sure how much there is to say about an umbrella.

Not sure how much there is to say about an umbrella. It keeps the rain off, which is the main thing, but wind blowing the rain sideways still makes things awkward. As an everyday umbrella I think it's good, rather than something extraordinary.1) There is decent cover for me, and a small child can tuck in close. This isn't one for gathering the whole family underneath.2) The frame has some give to it, which I appreciate when the wind picks up. I still hold on properly.3) Being able to press a button to open it is my favorite part. As a mom, usually my other hand is already doing something. Another press gathers the canopy; the telescoping stem needs pushing down by hand before putting it away.4) The green is cheerful! A welcome change when everything outside is gray.I would choose it again for the convenient opening alone. It isn't the smallest thing once folded, so check the room in your bag, but carrying it about has been easy enough. A practical umbrella, not a miracle.

Manuel Dyer

To me that's a pretty good sign I picked a decent one.

Umbrellas is something I reckon worth spending a little extra on rather than constantly buying replacements. This has been my main umbrella for several years now, and it still looks sound with nothing starting to pull apart. My family will borrow it now and then as well. To me that's a pretty good sign I picked a decent one.

Mandy Gutierrez

They have a great time.

My two girls are 20 months and think umbrellas are wonderful. We had this one and another umbrella for them to try, and both were a big hit. This one has held up well over the last few weeks so I've ordered a second! No proper rain test yet, it's mostly been little walks around the apartment building with me holding it. They have a great time.

Nathan Anderson

This umbrella gets carried a lot.

I have fair skin and live somewhere subtropical, so walking outside means I want some shade with me, even when rain isn't in the forecast. This umbrella gets carried a lot. It's not the smallest thing in my bag, but the coverage is worth that tradeoff and the weight is manageable for everyday walking. The button saves some fiddling when a shower starts. My advice is still to pay attention to the wind. Flexible ribs are nice to have, but I wouldn't stand between tall buildings and expect an umbrella to deal with gusts coming from every direction. Sometimes putting it away is the sensible option. My bigger concern is keeping track of it. An umbrella left out of sight seems to become somebody else's umbrella remarkably quickly. The loop handle helps because I can clip it to my bag rather than set it down somewhere. I haven't kept hold of umbrellas long enough to make grand claims about years of service, so I won't do that here. So far it feels well made, does a useful job for rain and shade, and is worth taking along. Now if I can just keep it with me!

Manuel Winters

Good umbrella, and a design I actually enjoy carrying.

The green has some character! I struggle to find umbrellas that feel like me without being too cutesy (fine if that's your thing, just not what I'm after). This feels fairly solid, although two outings isn't much of a test. A couple of little things I'd change rather than proper complaints: the button is a bit prominent for my taste, and after it draws the canopy in I find shortening the shaft takes a fairly firm push. Nothing that stops me using it. I'm being fussy really. Good umbrella, and a design I actually enjoy carrying.

Fred Lester

Still, it's been a pleasant surprise how well it's worn.

I didn't think it would last this long, but after months of use it's still doing nicely. I do keep reminding my son not to scrape it along the ground or turn it into a toy, which probably helps. Still, it's been a pleasant surprise how well it's worn. We get comments on the umbrella and on how sweet he looks carrying it (a reporter even stopped him for a little interview once b/c he looked so adorable :-)

Timothy Frazier

The shade is really why I like it so much though.

I can see how someone might call the frame flimsy if they expect it to be completely stiff. There is some movement in it, but to me that feels like flexibility rather than poor construction. I've had plenty of use out of mine and nothing about that give has put me off. Maybe a newer one feels different, I can only speak for the one I have. The shade is really why I like it so much though. I get too hot very easily and having the sun off my head makes being outside much more pleasant. Not having to keep a hat on the whole time is a big plus. On the trail or sitting in our kayak I can get some air round my head without sitting directly in the sun. It is one of those things I appreciate more once I'm actually out there using it. Mine stays in the car b/c that way I don't have to remember it every time I go out. Very glad I have it.

Yesenia Bean

Overall i am happy to recommend it.

I wasnt certain how comfortable this would be to carry once I saw it opened (bigger than expected!). After using it a few times its turned out to be a good choice. Doesnt feel too awkward walking with it and its coped well with the wind so far. The button is handy for opening and collapsing the canopy too. Overall i am happy to recommend it.

Went with the pink one mainly for some portable shade.

Went with the pink one mainly for some portable shade. I haven't had it out in strong wind, so can't say much about that, but for sitting at the beach or wandering round an amusement park it has been great. It's a normal folding umbrella size rather than one of those tiny things, and it feels quite solid to hold. My baby is usually in a carrier on my front or back and will not leave a hat alone, so having a bit of shade over us is really handy. Not having to rely on his hat staying put is a relief. Very happy with it!

Franklin Callahan

Easy to take along for the day, and it gives useful coverage once…

Easy to take along for the day, and it gives useful coverage once it's up. The loop handle sits comfortably in my hand rather than making me grip a skinny stick. I liked mine enough to get one each for my parents, plus another to leave at work. That spare is for all those days when I leave the house believing the forecast (and of course the sky has other ideas by the time I finish work).

Tammie Bell

It's also been steady in the wind I've encountered.

Matching an umbrella to what I'm wearing matters to me, and the black one goes with pretty much everything in either season. I've stayed dry with it, and the fabric doesn't seem to take ages to dry afterwards. It's also been steady in the wind I've encountered. Happy with the choice and would happily point someone looking for an umbrella towards it!

Brenda Quinn

I wasn't expecting an umbrella to impress me this much.

June broke the rainfall record here in Virginia, with records going back to 1955, and July seems headed the same way. I wasn't expecting an umbrella to impress me this much. I've spent fourteen years buying replacements about every two years, so I really wish I'd come across this sooner. It's been out in gusty weather already and handled it without a fuss. Two people can fit if they keep close, which is handy. It really does live up to the description, AN EXCELLENT UMBRELLA AND ONE I'D TELL ANYONE TO GET!

Bianca Weber

Nothing fancy to say, it just works well.

I've had this umbrella for several months now and it has been a good purchase. It gives me the coverage I wanted without being awkward to carry. Rain stays off me on my walks and the opening button is useful. Nothing fancy to say, it just works well. I would recommend it, and the price feels reasonable compared with what umbrellas generally cost.

Cathy Mccann

I get the hesitation about spending a little extra on an umbrella.

I get the hesitation about spending a little extra on an umbrella. It seemed a lot for something so ordinary, but using this has changed my mind. A few points: - The pink looks cheerful without making it look like a toy. - The sleeve is useful for keeping it neatly together when I'm not using it. Nothing elaborate, just somewhere to put it. - It feels substantial without being a pain to carry. A supposedly pleasant Seattle weekend supplied the usual rain and some wind, and it did its job rather than becoming an inside-out flower. - The closed oval handle is easy to grab when I'm carrying other things, and the button makes the canopy less fiddly. I haven't gone looking for extreme weather to test it. There comes a point where being indoors is clearly the smarter option anyway. I can't say yet how many years it'll last, but at the moment I don't regret paying the extra.

Leslie Kelley

You really want something sturdy for rainstorms in NYC.

Used mine for about a year before I lost it, so I'm back to get the same one. You really want something sturdy for rainstorms in NYC. It never snapped even with all the use I put it through (and there was plenty). The black looks nice too, somehow makes a rainy stroll feel a little better. I've become quite a fan of these umbrellas.

Joan Shepherd

The green is a cheerful shade.

Wind seems to find every gap between the buildings where I live. The walk out of my condo complex and on to work can be quite a test for an umbrella. This one has coped well so far, and I get a secure grip through the oval handle. I'm a fairly big fellow and there's enough coverage for my shoulders with my bag tucked in beside me. The green is a cheerful shade. It does feel a little weighty after carrying it for a while, so I wouldn't pick it purely for lightness. Otherwise, a solid choice for the daily walk.

Earl Flowers

My reservation is the folded size.

I bought the Haven partly on the name - I wanted an umbrella that felt well made. Three outings in fairly mild rain later, I'm happy with the coverage and the frame. My reservation is the folded size. It takes up more of my bag than I'd pictured, which is frustrating when I'm trying to pack light. The button is useful, but it shuts the canopy; the shaft then needs pressing back down by hand. It works properly, there's just that extra step I hadn't thought about when buying. I will add more ONLY if my opinion changes, rather than write a running account of every rainy day. At present it's still on my mental list of good umbrellas (assuming anyone else keeps a list like that).

Michael Valenzuela

For what I spent, I am quite satisfied.

I chose this for a friend of a friend, thinking the simple black style would suit their taste. Once I opened it I was rather tempted to keep it, however. It is a practical compact umbrella rather than something elaborate, but the finish is pleasing and it seems sturdy enough for everyday use. For what I spent, I am quite satisfied.

Shannon Gallegos

That's a trade I'm happy with for something that feels this solid.

The entrance to my workplace seems to funnel every bit of wind straight at you. I've taken this through there a few times and it has handled it well. Folded, it's a little longer than the umbrellas I'm used to, so my usual storage spot in the car isn't going to work. That's a trade I'm happy with for something that feels this solid. The shaft doesn't have that loose feeling in the middle. Closing the canopy is quick with the button, then I compress the shaft until it clicks securely into place. No wondering whether it's caught or not. I'll come back to this if anything changes after more use.I do have my usual gripe with the sleeve, getting everything wrapped tightly enough to slide it on is fiddly. That will probably live in a drawer rather than on the umbrella, like most of mine do.

Javier Pearson

A very appealing umbrella to use and carry.

The handle feels comfortable in my hand, with a shape that gives me a secure grip. I particularly like the closed oval loop, it makes the whole thing look a little different from the usual umbrella. This opens automatically at the button and another press draws the canopy in. The shaft then needs pushing back down by hand. There are plenty of flexible ribs underneath, and the black lining contrasts nicely with the blue outside.Overall it has a smart, uncomplicated look. Nothing fussy about it but the details work well together. The frame also gives a more substantial impression than I expected from something that folds down. A very appealing umbrella to use and carry.

Darrell Moran

It feels sturdy when it's windy and wet.

There is room for me and my backpack which surprised me. It feels sturdy when it's windy and wet. The sleeve goes back on easy (even after taking it off over and over). It opens straight up when you press the button. The only thing is the loop grip is quite large for my hand so my fingers don't sit quite where I want them, but I still like it.

Jackson Morton

My compact rain umbrella arrived in good time.

My compact rain umbrella arrived in good time. The included sleeve is simple but useful for keeping it tidy in storage. Opening it with the button is easy, and another press folds the canopy before I push the stem in. It fits neatly in my backpack, which is what I wanted. After rain I let it dry before putting it away again. I am satisfied with it and would recommend buying one.
