The gray is a nice shade -- very much what I saw pictured.
My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter gets so excited about an umbrella! She absolutely LOVES having one to carry! The gray is a nice shade -- very much what I saw pictured. It's a good size for us to stand under together. Now we're both looking forward to the next bit of rain.

It looked lovely from the start and has stayed nice with regular use.
Had this for... about four months now? and I'm still very fond of it. It looked lovely from the start and has stayed nice with regular use. I've carried it in sunshine and the usual rainy weather, both have been fine. Haven't taken it into hail or snow or any wildly rough weather, so I can't speak for that, and honestly I wouldn't be keen to try. It's an umbrella, not equipment for proving a point to a storm. It looks pretty without being fussy and it packs away nicely. I think treating it sensibly is the main thing, don't expect a little folding umbrella to take absolutely anything. Look after it and enjoy it <3
Angie Morrow
I found the umbrella really good quality.
Picked this out for my friend who is musician like me. She was so pleased! It has a lovely simple look, which makes it feel a bit special without being fussy.I found the umbrella really good quality. Feels sturdy and opening it is easy, you press the button and the canopy goes straight up.

I took this to the Renaissance Fair.
I took this to the Renaissance Fair. Was great! It gave me shade while I was walking about and looked pretty as well. Only little nuisance is tidying all the folds to get it inside the sleeve. That needs a bit of patience, but not enough to put me off using it.
Danny Huffman
I wouldn't take them out in severe wind.
Ordered around a dozen for the staff on school bus duty. (Go team!) The green is what I expected, and the cover is enough for a supervisor with a small student tucked close. Not the lightest to hold through a whole duty, though fine in ordinary rain. I wouldn't take them out in severe wind. Opening is straightforward and putting them away is easy.Staff appreciate having something decent to keep the rain off during their turn outside.

A useful umbrella at a sensible size.
I had it in my head that the "best" umbrella would be the biggest, heaviest thing I could find. When I first unpacked this one, I wasn't quite convinced by how compact it looked. (I've had enough umbrellas that were convenient to carry but didn't cover much....). It feels substantial in the hand, but that alone wouldn't sell me on it. The important bit is whether it keeps my business suit dry, and this has given me the coverage I wanted.
I have liked folding umbrellas in the past, so I wasn't against the idea. I just wanted the convenience without feeling I'd settled for a tiny rain cover. Having used this Haven, I honestly think it gets that balance right for the money. The beige is fairly understated too, which suits me.
True, I don't expect it to be indestructible. True, I still intend to look after it. But for everyday rain it has done exactly what I needed, and I appreciate being able to open it with a button rather than fiddling with it while holding my bag.
It fits in my computer bag folded, yet opens into a PROPER amount of cover. That's the part that makes the difference to me. No need to carry something enormous around all day just to get decent protection when it rains. A useful umbrella at a sensible size. I'd have no hesitation buying it again.

People keep commenting on my umbrella!
People keep commenting on my umbrella! I call it my parasol (for sun rather than rain, though it does both). The beige looks quite smart and it's been out with me a lot. Nice to have something useful that also gets noticed!Update: left it in my grocery cart and somebody walked off with it!!!!! So here I am needing another one. Sigh. I suppose whoever took it liked the look as much as I did?

A smart, solid umbrella with a really pleasing finish.
A smart, solid umbrella with a really pleasing finish. It has handled the gusts I've used it in well. The open canopy gives more room than some compact umbrellas (handy in rain, less handy in a crowd). A worthwhile choice if you want something that feels substantial.

After losing my last one on a trip, I ordered another of these.
After losing my last one on a trip, I ordered another of these. It folds down neatly and isn't a burden to have in a backpack, so I can leave it there without thinking about it. I keep another in the car as well. It doesn't need much space, and I am always glad it's there when the rain starts.
Cindy Horne
Such a neat umbrella.
Such a neat umbrella. The gray looks lovely in person, and pressing a button to put it up is something I really appreciate. Closing isn't completely hands free though. The canopy collapses with the button, then the telescoping stem needs a push to shorten it. That's a little awkward when I'm wet and trying to get into the car with other things in my hands. Still, I like it enough to have bought another. Mine hasn't had especially gentle treatment and it's holding together nicely, so I can live with the extra push. A keeper!

the oval handle feels firm, a little different in the hand.
the oval handle feels firm, a little different in the hand. the beige fabric seems dense, plenty of ribs underneath, sleeve included too, fairly substantial for carrying about. the button mechanism works, overall very satisfied, still need to see how it is in proper rain and wind.

I got a pair for my granddaughters and both were delighted.
I got a pair for my granddaughters and both were delighted. They've been opening them and carrying them about quite a lot. These are proper umbrellas rather than play things, and feel nicely made. I did worry about fingers with the mechanism, so we took it carefully, but no pinches so far. They'll enjoy them for dressing up as well as having something useful for a shower.

(**Not recommending a sword fight with it.
Fabric - This is a more substantial canopy than I usually find on a small folding umbrella. It doesn't have that thin, almost disposable feel some of them have.Construction - Opened out, it gives a surprisingly generous amount of shelter for something that folds down this far. Button opening was quick and uneventful, which is what I wanted. Another press draws the canopy in, then the telescoping part needs a manual push to pack it away. Everything underneath looks evenly fitted, with no odd angles or loose-looking bits. The closed oval handle is the weak point for me, not because it doesn't work, but because it feels a bit cheap alongside the rest.Appearance - Mine is black, with a black underside too. Quite plain, and looks like the pictures rather than something that arrived wearing a different outfit.
I can't tell from an inspection whether this will be around for several seasons. My expectation for a compact umbrella is fairly modest anyway, and at this stage the overall build seems decent for what I paid. The handle prevents a completely glowing report, but isn't enough to make me regret it.
One important qualification: all of the above was written before I had actually stood under it in rain.
or was it . . .
UPDATE (now containing unnecessary nautical commentary): It has had its first outing in rain and wind, and performed its assigned watery duties rather well. No sudden inside-out impression, no ribs making a bid for freedom. I remained dry, which is less exciting than buried treasure but considerably more useful on a wet day. The plain black canopy does lean more towards sneaking about than announcing yourself captain of anything. Still, I cannot fault its commitment to the extremely unglamorous job of being an umbrella. (**Not recommending a sword fight with it. Or a career change to piracy on the strength of one rainy outing.)
Jaclyn Morrison
Doesn't feel heavy considering the coverage when open.
No rain since it got here, naturally, so I haven't been able to try it properly outside yet. The black looks just like the photo and the whole thing seems nicely put together. Doesn't feel heavy considering the coverage when open. Almost wishing for a wet day now so I can give it a go.
Gene Vang
the gray is so easy to match.
I bought this for my gothic & frilly outfits, but I reach for it all through the hot southwest summer... the gray is so easy to match. It gives my shoulders & upper body a welcome patch of shade, and it folds down small enough to take along! Much more useful than saving a parasol just for an outfit!
Alicia Smith
Its got a good solid feel to it.
I left ordering it kinda late and was pleased it turned up sooner than I thought. Its got a good solid feel to it. A little heavier to carry than I pictured but not enough to bother me..I been taking it out when its hot for some shade and people always comment how nice it looks. I definately would recommend it! Im thinking of getting another green one.
Christie Hudson
A promising umbrella, provided you use a bit of common sense with it.
Living in Boston, I've been through enough folding umbrellas to be a little sceptical. This one has now had several outings in breezy weather and has done well. The ribs flex rather than feeling completely rigid, which seems sensible for something that folds up. It doesn't look especially chunky, and I wouldn't push it in the worst gusts between buildings. Still, for normal windy rain it has felt steady in my hand and kept its shape. A promising umbrella, provided you use a bit of common sense with it.
Alex Boone
This seemed worth trying and so far I'm very, very happy with it.
After the wind turned my last two umbrellas inside out, I wanted something sturdier that would still go in my messenger bag. I didn't want a great big thing to lug around, or another one I'd be replacing straight away. This seemed worth trying and so far I'm very, very happy with it. It packs small enough for my bag and doesn't feel excessively heavy for the solid frame. So far it has coped with windy days without folding over, which was really the main point for me. I hadn't tried Haven before but I'm impressed.I'll add to this if anything changes with more use.
Antonio Terrell
I'm on my third of these umbrellas now.
I'm on my third of these umbrellas now. The others were perfectly fine - I was careless and they ended up lost/stolen. There's enough coverage when it's pouring, yet folded up it's a sensible size to carry. I do find the open/close button needs a fairly firm press sometimes, but that aside it's been a very good umbrella for me.
Sean Farmer
Nice loop handle too.
An umbrella isn't usually something I get excited about, but I do like this one. Plain black suits my other things, and it looks smart without being fussy. The stitching is neat and the whole thing feels well put together. Nice loop handle too. Nothing much else to report really, except that it has kept me dry whenever I've needed it!
Joanna Hobbs
Attractive umbrella with good coverage.
Attractive umbrella with good coverage. The automatic open AND canopy close are easy for my seven year old to use. Two reasons I'm at four stars rather than five... the closing button only gathers in the canopy, so afterwards you must compress the pole into the handle before using the opening button again. That push takes more effort than the button itself, especially for my daughter. It isn't a fault, just something to understand before handing it over to a child. Also, the folded umbrella takes up more of her locker than I'd hoped. She has to give it a proper space rather than squeeze it in anywhere. One suggestion for the design: making that final push a little easier for smaller hands would help. Those reservations aside, it looks nice and has been useful in the rain.
Bob Meyer
What a good looking umbrella!
What a good looking umbrella! I haven't had any rain to try it in yet, but I'm almost wishing for some. The way the canopy curves when it's open is oddly satisfying; a little piece of geometry. It gives me more room than I expected from a folding umbrella. Most of my walking is along the river rather than those cramped streets, so there should be space to enjoy it.I've already ordered another colour because I liked this one so much. I'll be taking it out on gentle rainy days, and perhaps for a bit of shade too. For now I keep finding reasons to open it in the house. :-)
Cristina Vance
A little more coverage would make this ideal, as it is rather small.
A little more coverage would make this ideal, as it is rather small. That said, it has handled breezy rain well and the fabric doesn't stay heavy and wet afterwards. Folds down to a convenient size for carrying about. The button opens it AND collapses the canopy, but it doesn't do every part of packing it away. You then push the telescoping section down yourself. I can see why someone might expect the entire umbrella to shrink at the press of a button, but this is straightforward enough.
Rachel Kelly
A very successful choice of present!
The green umbrellas were Christmas gifts for our granddaughters and they were delighted! There was quite a bit of twirling round the tree once they'd opened them. Rain the following day made them even happier, they wanted an excuse to take them outside. We adults thought the coverage was good and the frames felt sturdy, not just something pretty to play with. A very successful choice of present!

I ordered a pair, one for myself and the other for my wife.
I ordered a pair, one for myself and the other for my wife. At this price I think they are perfectly decent. We have only had them a short while and haven't been out in much wind, so I can't say anything about that or how long they will hold up. They feel light enough when you're holding them and have kept us dry. The finish is a bit ordinary, it doesn't give you that expensive umbrella feeling, but for what I paid I am fine with it. Hopefully they will last us a few years.

Years ago I had a green umbrella for about six months, then left it somewhere and that was that. This seemed the nearest replacement, although it doesn't have quite the same feel in the hand (old one a 9, this perhaps a 7).It works perfectly well, and is several steps above the really cheap umbrellas that seem more trouble than they're worth,Not a bad choice overall. Folds into a manageable package for carrying, but the sleeve needs watching. Whenever I take it off I have to remember to put it in my bag, otherwise I can see it being left behind next. The umbrella is useful, the loose cover is just one more thing to remember.

We had a similar umbrella already and it served us well.
We had a similar umbrella already and it served us well. Ordered this because my wife had been using that one. Well, she saw the new one and I am back with the old one again.Tells you something. Solid feeling umbrella and it's handled the rainy, windy days we get here. As far as I'm concerned an umbrella is for anyone, not just men. We can just about fit together under it when needed. Now I'm considering another, unless I can convince her to swap back for a change...

I paid a little less for a used one, which made me happy.
I paid a little less for a used one, which made me happy. There were a few grubby marks but nothing I wasn't expecting with something second hand. I'd seen this style online before and kept coming back to it, so finding one in blue was nice. The design is still what I like most about it. It folds up, though I would love it to go a little smaller for my purse without losing the shape and the overall look.
Tamara Rich
It seems sturdy and the oval handle is his favourite bit.
We almost let another review put us off, but we liked the look of this one most. Really glad we went ahead - our son loves carrying it about and keeps picking it up. It seems sturdy and the oval handle is his favourite bit. Apparently having an umbrella of his own is a big deal when you're 2 1/2 years old.
Jeremy Rowland
For the way we use it we're both quite happy with it.
my girlfriend and i wanted one umbrella to share rather than carrying two (neither of us is very broad). We can get underneath this together if we stay close, with just enough cover at the shoulders. It's not one of those enormous umbrellas but feels sturdy and folds away nicely. For the way we use it we're both quite happy with it.
Maria Kirk
Such a lovely umbrella close up!
Such a lovely umbrella close up! The beige gives it a simple, classic appearance. There's enough room underneath for one person (me!). Doesn't feel a chore to carry either. I like the unusual loop handle, it suits the clean look. A lovely choice if you prefer something understated.
Corey Grant
I'd happily recommend it.
I used to think spending much on an umbrella was a bit silly, but this has changed my mind. Being able to close the canopy with a button is so convenient that ordinary manual ones now feel like extra work. You do still push the stem down yourself afterwards, which I got used to quickly. I lost my first one after only a couple of weeks and found myself ordering another without much hesitation, despite not normally spending this much on umbrellas. It's useful, but it also looks really smart. The cream white is lovely and the sleeve helps keep it together in my bag. Not the cheapest thing I've bought, but one of those purchases that earns its place. I'd happily recommend it.

My daughter started Kindergarten and wanted an umbrella of her own.
My daughter started Kindergarten and wanted an umbrella of her own. She loves the pink. Opening it with the button is straightforward, and it gives her good cover on the school walk. Folding the canopy is easy too, although I help with pushing the shaft back down afterwards. It is a bit more substantial to carry than I expected for her. We've used it through most of the school year and it's held up well. Overall I'm glad we chose it, just something to bear in mind for smaller children.
Bill Mayo
I've owned a few compact umbrellas, and this is easily my favourite!
I've owned a few compact umbrellas, and this is easily my favourite! Press to open, press to fold the canopy, then compress the shaft to pack it away. It feels really well put together for its size. My only hesitation is how it might manage a very windy day. A sturdier frame would be reassuring, but it's been excellent in ordinary rain so far.
Sean Robinson
At last, an umbrella I'm happy to reach for!
This is umbrella number three in my search, and this time I think I've done well! I've tried a couple of others without getting quite the combination I wanted. The last one was very pretty and felt strong, but didn't give me enough room. This one covers me and my bag comfortably without being a full length umbrella to carry around. I've only taken it out twice, both times in wet, breezy weather, and it stayed in shape instead of turning inside out. I wasn't constantly adjusting it or worrying about it, which was a relief. Obviously that's not years of use, but so far I am impressed! I picked blue, and it looks a little softer in person than I expected from the picture. Very smart and easy to live with. The ribs have some give rather than feeling completely rigid. The push button works smoothly for opening and closing the canopy, and afterwards I press the telescoping section down to pack it away. It fits inside my large purse nicely. At last, an umbrella I'm happy to reach for!

She's very attached to her umbrella!
My granddaughter was so excited about this birthday gift that she took it out to play by the swimming pool first. Since then it's been on plane trips and car journeys with her and has seen plenty of rainy days as well. Still looking good after being carried about so much. She's very attached to her umbrella!

It does the everyday backpack umbrella job well.
Rain around here can get pretty nasty, usually at exactly the time I have to get to another class. I wanted an umbrella that could just live in my backpack instead of being one more thing to remember. The button makes opening it convenient, and it packs away smaller than I expected for the amount of cover. I carry enough stuff already but the weight of this hasn't really bothered me.
Opened up, it feels quite roomy compared with the folded thing in my bag.Good part - There's enough coverage for me without leaving my backpack sticking out in the rain. My laptop goes everywhere with me, so keeping the bag covered matters probably more than keeping my shoes dry! I'm pretty short, about five foot one, and generally stay dry down to around my knees. Someone taller might have a different idea of how much coverage that is.
Less good - There's still no escaping wet lower legs when the rain comes in sideways. The canopy covers a decent area but you do have to pay attention to where you're holding it, rather than just walk along expecting all the rain to miss you. Then there's sharing. People without umbrellas see all that space and want in, but if they're taller than me, somehow the cover ends up at their height and I'm the one catching the drips :/. Room for two is not always equally dry room for two.
So, not a way of arriving completely untouched by the weather, but useful enough that I'd choose it again. It does the everyday backpack umbrella job well.
Vanessa Hatfield
I adore this umbrella.
I adore this umbrella. At first I was trying to work out the little button thingy, but once I stopped overthinking it the canopy popped right open. It's staying out on display for now, it just looks so pretty. Perhaps it'll make an appearance at my wedding one day. Something about holding it makes me feel rather like a princess.
Kerri Mullen
I picked this out for my girlfriend and she's really pleased.
I picked this out for my girlfriend and she's really pleased. Goes into her backpack without trouble, but opens out to a useful size with one press. GF says it gives her enough room without being cumbersome. Another press gathers up the canopy, then you push the stem down. Definitely one she'll want to keep track of.

Black canopy with a matching dark underside and a closely ribbed frame, featuring automatic opening and button-operated canopy closing. The oval carabiner loop gives the handle a distinctive look ☂️, and the whole thing has a pleasingly classic feel. A handsome everyday accessory, nicely put together without an extravagant price.

Apparently I had not learned my lesson!
I'd seen this umbrella in a deal and tried to win one, with no luck, but by then I had decided I wanted it anyway. I spent far too much time looking around for one in Cream White! I probably could have spent less if I'd kept searching, but I wanted something ready for the rainy season, so I finally ordered. I do like it. Getting it back into its sleeve can be fiddly when I haven't wrapped the fabric neatly. I keep telling myself I won't get another umbrella that needs persuading to go away. Then at Christmas I was given a parasol that takes even more patience than this one. Apparently I had not learned my lesson!

Summer in the Central Valley gets seriously hot.
Summer in the Central Valley gets seriously hot. This gray umbrella doesn't make the air cold, but not having the sun directly on me makes walking much more comfortable. On the golf course it is a bit like taking my own patch of shade along. It seems solidly put together as well, so I expect it will be useful when the wet weather comes round.
Heather Contreras
Construction feels excellent.
Coverage is a sensible compromise for something that folds away. Mine stays in the car for the short walk through rain; for a long walk I'd still choose a larger umbrella. Construction feels excellent. The canopy is about 105cm across when open, which gives useful room without making it a golf umbrella. Folded length is around 40cm, so compact doesn't mean tiny, and that is worth considering for a small bag. The closed loop handle is practical, though I'd prefer a softer surface against my hand (a minor point). It has behaved well on the windy days I've used it.
Nina Rollins
Easy to take along rather than leaving a big umbrella at home.
Handy little umbrella for what it costs, folds small enough for a roomy coat pocket and keeps the rain off well. It isn't huge once opened, but fine for me. The button is convenient. Can't say much about years of use yet, I've not had it long, though it feels reasonably solid. Easy to take along rather than leaving a big umbrella at home.
Jake Silva
The control is a single button on the handle.
The gray canopy spreads out evenly and gives a useful amount of cover. Folded up, the umbrella fits back into its sleeve without taking up too much room. The control is a single button on the handle. Press it once to open the umbrella, then press again when you want the canopy to fold. After that, you'll push the telescoping shaft back down by hand. What I hadn't realised is that closing the canopy and shortening the shaft are separate steps: The button does the first part, not both. Once that is done it is ready to open again. I would prefer a little less effort on that final push, but the arrangement is straightforward when you know how it works.
Marcia Banks
Such a cute umbrella.
Such a cute umbrella. My daughter is pleased whenever it rains now because she can take hers along! She gets plenty of nice comments about it too. We've been using it a couple of months and it's doing well so far. Living in the rainy part of Washington state means it comes out a lot.Its reasonably priced, about what you'd pay for a plain one. It makes a nice birthday present that's practical too. We bought one for a friend and she gets plenty of use out of hers.

An umbrella isn't optional here on the east coast.
An umbrella isn't optional here on the east coast. This is taking over from a bargain one that, despite its bargain status, gave me a little over four years. That one coped with everyday rain, but our thunderstorms were beyond it, so I wanted something more substantial. Unpacking this actually had me hoping for bad weather. It feels solid, and the canopy has more of a fabric feel than the slippery windbreaker-like stuff on my old umbrella. I get the impression it won't tear so readily. The weight did surprise me, though. Also, the difference between my old coverage and this one sounded fairly modest until I opened it. There is a whole lot of umbrella overhead.Regarding its performance in a storm, I seem to have purchased a weather deterrent. It has rained on probably forty percent of the days since I got it, with six thunderstorms in the mix. Yet whenever I produce this umbrella, ready to challenge the sky to do its worst, the rain promptly lets up. Apparently it would rather avoid the confrontation. This means I've spent more time showing it off at the office than putting it through a proper soaking. My habit of opening and closing it inside has not gone down particularly well with the superstitious people there. Should I ever get a decent chance to test it, I'll try to come back and add that part. Right now four stars is as far as I can reasonably go.
Patrick Oconnor
This one seems a sensible choice.
Having lost my last umbrella to wind and heavy rain, I spent some time looking for something with a better frame. I wanted decent construction without paying a fortune. This one seems a sensible choice. The ribs look well supported and the push button brings it up promptly, without needing to tug anything into place. I haven't had the chance to try it in really unpleasant weather yet, so I'm holding back a little on that part of the review.
Evan Hudson
A handy purchase overall, and one I'd recommend.
Mine stays in the car so I have it when rain comes out of nowhere. The ribs have some give to them (I'm no expert on umbrella construction), and it feels sturdy in normal wind. I wouldn't expect miracles in Chicago gusts, though. What umbrella really likes those? A handy purchase overall, and one I'd recommend.
Sonya Walsh
These are solid, the button action is easy(!
Two of these seemed sensible, since my kids have a habit of making umbrellas disappear. These are solid, the button action is easy(!), and all the little details look neatly finished. The coverage is good and the rain beads off instead of soaking through. Having one where I left it would be nice. Might need another.
