A useful everyday umbrella!

I use public transport for work every day, so an umbrella isn't just an occasional thing for me. This one feels sturdy and has been easy to put up when I need it. The carabiner loop lets me attach it to my purse, which is handy when I'm juggling things. My only real reservation is the size - my upper half stays covered but sideways rain still reaches my legs. A useful everyday umbrella!

I wanted a compact umbrella that wouldn't need babying.

I wanted a compact umbrella that wouldn't need babying. After more than a year of being shoved in my backpack, this one is still in good shape. It's coped with the windy rain I've used it in, with no flipping over. Button operation is useful when my hands are full. The canopy covers me and my backpack well enough to keep the things I'm carrying dry. A useful amount of cover from something that doesn't take over the whole bag.

I'd first noticed this sort of umbrella in a botanical garden shop.

I'd first noticed this sort of umbrella in a botanical garden shop. When my grown daughter mentioned wanting a pretty umbrella for herself, I remembered it and went looking. It makes stepping out into rainy weather a little more cheerful when you have something nice to take along. It fits into her tote or a larger purse when folded, yet opens up to a useful size rather than feeling like a tiny emergency umbrella.

The umbrellas themselves are lovely!

There was some confusion with the first shipment, but customer service kept in touch and sorted it out for me. I really appreciated getting a clear answer instead of being left wondering. The umbrellas themselves are lovely! I bought three and they feel nicely made - just what I wanted for the wedding!

These did exactly what we needed for Halloween.

These did exactly what we needed for Halloween. The button makes getting them up quick, and I don't mind pushing the poles down after the canopies close. We managed with two between our family of five by standing close together. For what they cost, I couldn't ask for much more!

Had no trouble working it.

Held up toward the sun, it gives a decent patch of shade, which is what i wanted. The ribs feel reassuringly strong for something that folds down. Handle is a bit plain feeling but perfectly usable, and the whole thing seems good value to me. The sleeve is nothing fancy, but keeps the folded umbrella tidy in my bag. I like the closed loop handle too, easier to keep hold of than i expected. It's a useful little detail rather than just something there for looks. Had no trouble working it. One press sends it up and another gathers the canopy in. You then shorten the telescoping stem yourself before packing it away. Not completely automatic from start to finish, but i find that easy enough. Keep your fingers away from the moving parts and there's not much to it.

Needed a dependable umbrella for walking my dogs.

Needed a dependable umbrella for walking my dogs. I've tried plenty of umbrella over the years, cheap ones and dearer ones, and never been happy with them for very long. This feels solid and has managed the weather we've had so far. The canopy gives me good cover all round, not just directly above my head.

The pink is a nice colour too..

OK, I've tried about 5 umbrellas and got tired of worrying about wind and rain seeping through worn seams. Decided to try this compact one and so far it's kept me dry with no trouble. Bigger opened out than you would think looking at it folded up, but not a long thing to carry round. For someone wanting an everyday umbrella that work without a fuss I'd recommend this. The pink is a nice colour too..

Small everyday magic.

Want to convince children there's a hole right through the beach? An open black umbrella against the sand could probably help. Only joking. I gave this to my sister-in-law and she liked it enough to send me a thankyou message. So... apparently I did well. A little chunkier folded than I had pictured, but it keeps me dry and looks good doing it. Small everyday magic.

No great thought went into choosing pink, I just liked it.

Shade was the reason I wanted an umbrella, with some overdue fence repairs to get through outside. No great thought went into choosing pink, I just liked it. The canopy is roughly 105cm across, enough for a useful bit of shade while I took a pause from the work. Being handheld, it isn't something I can keep over me while doing every part of the repairs, but it was easy to move along the fence and put away when not needed. Here in Florida a summer shower is hardly a surprise, so it has also done a turn in the rain and kept me dry. It has been useful for both things I wanted it for. The construction seems sound, and the price was reasonable for what I got.

There is always a cheap one for sale nearby when the rain starts.

Living in NYC, I have usually treated umbrellas as things I will eventually leave somewhere. There is always a cheap one for sale nearby when the rain starts. Those have pinched my fingers often enough that I wanted something less fiddly. The button on this one opens it and folds the canopy, then I push the shaft down myself. Much easier to deal with. Losing it is still the main risk, along with someone picking up the wrong umbrella. It costs more than a street replacement, but I think the convenience is worth paying for. I'd look for this kind again.

Second order and I'm every bit as impressed

Second order and I'm every bit as impressed; I'd tell anyone to get one. I honestly didn't expect an umbrella to feel like such a good use of money. The build is strong and it's been steady for me in wind and rain. Opened up there's a good amount of cover around me. you feel nicely sheltered. I even got a telling off for saying buy one rather than two! I'll remember that when I recommend it again 😂 💯 💯 💯 💯

nice green umbrella, my 2 year old is very taken with it.

nice green umbrella, my 2 year old is very taken with it. he likes holding it and pretending it's his walking stick! there is a good amount of cover over him in the rain. But it is a bit much for him to manage on his own, especially carrying it for long, so I end up helping. fine as an umbrella, just not as handy for someone his size as i hoped.

Charlene Reynolds

a nice umbrella, just not what I'd call 'tiny' once folded.

...a nice umbrella, just not what I'd call 'tiny' once folded. I like how it opens and there's enough room under it, but the length (when shut) means it doesn't fit into my smaller bag the way I'd hoped. Maybe my idea of 'compact' is really one of those very small travel sizes. This one is still perfectly useful...I just wouldn't choose it if getting the smallest possible package was the main thing.

Warren Powers

Definitely recommend it.

I've bought these for myself, then for a friend, and this one is my spare. After you use it and feel how dependable it is, all you think about is keeping another ready just in case... Definitely recommend it. I like the practical explanation of using it too, press the button for the canopy and push the shaft back in by hand...

Roberta Potter

The weight is noticeable, this isn't a feather light umbrella.

The weight is noticeable, this isn't a feather light umbrella. I don't agree that something like this would be too heavy for a woman to use, though. It feels substantial rather than cumbersome, and the grip is comfortable in my hand. That balance suits me very well.

Angela Ferrell

I would recommend it without a second thought.

My husband found this so useful on our vacation in New York. We carried it for the rain but he also used it for shade while we were out walking, which turned out to matter just as much. Nice that it folds away instead of being another long thing to carry around all day. I would recommend it without a second thought.

Gerald Smith

She is hoping for rain now so we can try it outside.

My preschool daughter could hardly wait to look at this when it came. She is hoping for rain now so we can try it outside. She can hold it herself, which she is pleased about. I will handle the button and help push the shaft down when we put it away. She is very excited about having an umbrella of her own.

Joann King

Oh, I like using this.

Oh, I like using this. I was expecting something heavier after reading about folding umbrellas, but it doesn't feel awkward to carry. It folds in the usual way, not that upside down sort of arrangement. Press to gather the canopy, then shorten the stem by hand. Since I reach for an umbrella fairly often, simple operation matters to me. A worthwhile buy.

Cole Mullen

I bought this for watching golf tournaments.

I bought this for watching golf tournaments. So handy! Standing beside the ropes on the fairway can mean quite a wait for the players I'm following, and it gives me shade instead of being out in the sun the whole time. I fold it away when walking between holes and open it again when I stop. Definitely something I'd bring for a long day at the tournys, makes the waiting much more comfortable.

Todd Baldwin

It seems carefully put together and is a very nice umbrella.

I ordered this for my daughter and pictured something tiny enough to disappear in her bag. It's a bit more substantial than that, and she's so little that we had a laugh when she opened it. Not enormous, just more umbrella than she was expecting! Next year she'll be finished with college and going to work in proper clothes, so I think she'll appreciate having decent coverage then. It seems carefully put together and is a very nice umbrella. At the moment the family is still teasing me about buying her 'professional rain equipment'....I rather wish I had ordered myself one too!

Terri Gonzalez

what a good buy this turned out to be, feels like something you…

what a good buy this turned out to be, feels like something you would pay quite a bit more for, Nice solid umbrella and easy to get open, i like that it gives proper cover without being a great long thing to carry about, for the money i am more than satisfied and would tell anybody needing a decent umbrella to try one!!

Karen Schroeder

For that sort of use I would recommend it.

For backpackers trying to keep a bag organised, a folding umbrella like this makes more sense than carrying a long one. It still takes some room, so I would not call it a tiny pocket umbrella, but it packs alongside other things without much fuss. The automatic opening is useful when rain starts and you need cover quickly. Please remember that compact does NOT mean weightless. This has a substantial feel, and I would not pick it for a load where every gram is being counted. It makes more sense for ordinary walking, when the umbrella spends most of its time being carried and only comes out occasionally. For that sort of use I would recommend it.

George Black

My old umbrella finally needed replacing after years of use.

My old umbrella finally needed replacing after years of use. This one goes into my purse easily (it's a normal sized purse, not a giant tote). The black looks smart and the loop handle makes it a little different from the usual plain umbrella. A cheerful little improvement to a wet day!

Morgan Ross

Excellent quality!

We keep one in each car and I wouldn't want to be without them! Easily the BEST umbrellas we've had. The canopy feels substantial and there's plenty of room for me with one of the little ones beside me. My wife likes how quickly it pops open too. A couple of people at work have already had a good look at it while getting their own umbrellas sorted. Excellent quality!

Julia Christian

Handy to carry along and nice to have overhead.

Losing the umbrella I'd carried for years really annoyed me, especially as it had dogs on it and I'm a dog person. I looked for ages before deciding on this as a replacement. It's much plainer, but the beige is lovely and I've become quite attached to it. I took it along for the annual charity dog walk around the race track. Turned out to be a very hot day, so instead of rain protection it became my shade for the walk. Handy to carry along and nice to have overhead. Its a lovely umbrella, even without the dogs on it.

The Pink is easy to Spot when I put it down.

Didn't relize it would open out this much, I could of used something a bit Smaller, But I do like it alot. The Pink is easy to Spot when I put it down.I was looking at all sorts before finding this Online, and Now everyone asks where I Got it ,could have passed mine along about ten time's..Feels good having it with me walking in the Woods, instead of telling myself it probably won't Rain and Getting Soaked. Just not quite as small Folded as I planned.

Sophia Williams

Since these umbrellas arrived the forecast has decided to stay dry.

Since these umbrellas arrived the forecast has decided to stay dry. Typical. Still, the mechanism feels smooth and the construction looks very good. I bought a pair, keeping one in the car and the other near the front door so I'm covered either way. For the price they seem a sensible buy, and I'd recommend trying one.

Valerie Bates

These arrived today and first impressions are good.

These arrived today and first impressions are good. Haven't taken them out in wet or windy weather yet, so this is just from opening them up. They seem nicely put together and there's more cover than I expected from something that folds down. I'll come back and add to this if the first proper outing tells a different story.

Joann Moore

The umbrellas themselves are beautiful!

There was some confusion with sending out my original umbrellas, but the response when I asked about it was excellent. Quick replies and everything put right, which I appreciated. The umbrellas themselves are beautiful! I ordered three, and they all feel carefully made. They'll be lovely for the wedding, very pleased with how the whole thing turned out!

Kara Mack

We ordered a few so guests could use them as well.

Rain was in the forecast for our small wedding, and we wanted something available for the walk between the reception tent and the inn. We ordered a few so guests could use them as well. The cream white looked really appropriate for the day, much nicer than I had expected from an emergency rain purchase! As it turned out we never needed them at the wedding. I still kept one for myself because I liked it so much. Opened out it gives a nice amount of cover, and it is easy enough to carry when folded. I'm glad we had them ready even though the weather cooperated. A useful thing to have for a wedding, and a perfectly good everyday umbrella afterwards!

Annette Mueller

Makes heading out in rain less of a chore!

A bit bigger folded than the tiny umbrellas I'm used to, but I actually like the more substantial feel. Not something to slip in a pocket, which wasn't what I needed anyway. Seems strong and nicely put together. I love having the button for opening AND folding the canopy; then I push the shaft back in. Makes heading out in rain less of a chore!UPDATE 12/2011: working well and I'm still delighted!UPDATE 05/2013: haven't replaced it, still the one I reach for

Bought the pink umbrella because rain was forecast for our pop up…

Bought the pink umbrella because rain was forecast for our pop up dinner, luckily it stayed dryIt gives good cover for one and two could squeeze under, have taken it to other events since and it opens easilyStill not sure how we'd have held it above the table and eaten at the same time, glad we never needed to figure that out

Christian Tapia

It has kept me dry and the button works fine.

Three stars from me because the frame feels less substantial than I hoped. It has kept me dry and the button works fine. The ribs have a light, flexible feel that I'm not quite confident about yet.Maybe that's just me being fussy, but I'm replacing an umbrella that got stolen and I liked the solid feel of that one better. Nothing actually wrong with using this, just not sure about the long term.I do like the cream white :)

Walking the golf course is much more comfortable with this over me.

Walking the golf course is much more comfortable with this over me. Having some shade takes the edge off the heat and I don't feel so worn out afterward. Another golfer let me stand under his umbrella to see the difference, which convinced me to get one. Glad he pointed me in the right direction

No babyish pictures on this one.

The parcel caused quite a stir with my granddaughter, especially once she saw her umbrella inside. At nine, she's very keen on things looking grown up, so the simple style went down beautifully. No babyish pictures on this one.She was absolutely delighted and so was I. Getting one for her was straightforward, and seeing how much she liked it made my day. Sweet -- very sweet. A BIG HIT!

Margaret Russo

The umbrella feels good, the handle is solid, uhmm the button…

The umbrella feels good, the handle is solid, uhmm the button opens it and folds the canopy down nicely, there is a small thing though: shortening the pole takes a firm push, and after closing the canopy I need to compress the pole fully before the button can open it again, so it's a normal reset step rather than a problem, but it isn't quite effortless for me, otherwise I'm happy with it.

Cory Choi

It feels solid & is comfortable to hold while I walk.

Phoenix is already past 110 & with my fair skin the walk to the light rail is no fun. I work downtown & that short bit outside can leave me sweating before I've even got on the train (yes, even such a short walk!). Winter is another matter, I like the commute then. I wasn't keen on spending this much on an umbrella just for shade, but now I understand why people do it. Having the sun off me makes the walk noticeably more comfortable. It feels solid & is comfortable to hold while I walk. After a couple of weeks of taking it along, it's already become one of those things I check I have before leaving home.

Gabriella Wiggins

Handy to have ready when the weather changes.

Made it through a wet and windy week in Glasgow without any trouble. A few gusts had me thinking I'd picked the wrong umbrella, especially when I seemed to be walking into the wind whichever way I went. But it coped, and it's still the one I'm using.I'd happily buy another at a similar price - for me the useful size and decent feel make it a very good buy. Handy to have ready when the weather changes.

Having two new puppies means going outside even when it's raining.

Having two new puppies means going outside even when it's raining. This gives me good cover with enough room for the little pups close beside me. Opens easily when we're heading out. The gray looks nice too, and I can pick it out quickly when looking through the cupboard.

Frances Arellano

I'm not especially careful with umbrellas either.

After five years of city rain I have very little patience for those tiny umbrellas that fold up the wrong way at the first gust. I've used two of these and this is the sort I prefer to carry around NYC. It doesn't pack down to a little pocket-sized bundle, so allow some space in your bag, but in use it feels reassuringly solid. Once it's open I feel covered instead of constantly watching the frame.I'm not especially careful with umbrellas either. Mine gets tossed into the bag, set down anywhere, and generally treated as something useful rather than something precious. It still looks smart and the opening action is quick. I wouldn't deliberately take it out in a storm, but for the wet, gusty days I actually need an umbrella it has been great. Paying more for one I trust has made sense to me.

Here in South Florida summer afternoons usually mean rain, so I wanted an umbrella that could stay in my small messenger bag without being a hassle. This has been a dependable one so far, the frame feels solid and it has kept me covered on those wet afternoons. It's a little more substantial in the bag than I had pictured, but still convenient enough to carry. A good choice if you want something compact without that flimsy feeling.

Dawn Mays

She was so excited to have an umbrella of her own.

Bought for a little girl in first grade who waits outside for her morning bus. She was so excited to have an umbrella of her own. The first wet morning was apparently quite an event. Her mum tells me she carries it about and keeps showing it to people. She especially likes opening it with the button, and is very proud of it.

Scott Hardy

This was a birthday present for my cousin.

This was a birthday present for my cousin. She likes this simple style and I thought an umbrella would be something she'd actually use, especially with how often it rains here in Houston. The size is good for carrying around rather than leaving at home, and the whole thing feels nicely put together.

Jay Vaughan

Another thing I appreciate is the oval loop handle.

Bought with the children in mind, but I'm the one reaching for it most often. Being compact and quick to put up makes a difference. There is enough cover for me without having a huge canopy to wrestle into the car, and I can open it with one hand. Much less fuss when it's raining and I'm trying to get settled. The button brings the canopy closed as well, although the shaft has to be pushed back by hand. I would do that part for the children rather than expect little hands to manage it. The button is much nicer than those fiddly metal catches on some children's umbrellas, which always seemed awkward to use. Another thing I appreciate is the oval loop handle. It gives me something comfortable to hold without a big hooked end hanging off it. Small everyday conveniences, but they are why I keep using this one.

Chelsea Collier

A wipe did not really change them.

On taking it out I noticed a faint pale patch on the sleeve, and a couple of places on the shaft had a dull, slightly rough feel, almost like marks left from handling. A wipe did not really change them. I had intended to give this as a present, so the appearance bothered me more than it probably would have for my own use. Nothing awful, and it works fine, but I would check it over before wrapping it rather than assume it will look completely untouched. I decided to keep this one. As an umbrella it feels reasonably substantial, about four stars for that, and the pink is a nice straightforward colour. Opened up it gives a good amount of coverage for one adult, with room around the shoulders rather than just directly overhead. It folds down lengthwise, which makes it practical to put away. There is a button for opening it and for shutting the canopy, although you still have to press the telescoping sections together yourself to finish closing it. That is worth knowing if you expect the entire thing to retract at one touch. The convenience is welcome, even if I cannot say how it will hold up over years. The closed oval loop handle gives it a slightly different look from the usual plain handle umbrellas.

Richard Vincent

A good choice for a present.

This was a Christmas present for my daughter and she was delighted. The pink looks pretty without being too bright. She tried the button immediately and was thrilled to see the canopy open and fold again. It is a little larger folded than she expected, but she likes it very much. A good choice for a present.

Mindy Evans

Used this for about a year now.

Used this for about a year now. I carry my child on my back and it has been useful for keeping the rain off us on ordinary wet days! There is a limit to how much cover you get with two of us underneath though. In those really heavy Florida downpours I have to pay attention to the angle, otherwise my head is covered but the rain reaches a shoulder or my child's legs. Not a mystery, just more rain than a compact umbrella can cover from every direction. I still reach for it because for most rain it does the job well and is easier to carry than a full sized one. The frame feels flexible rather than flimsy, which I appreciate. I do have to remind my child not to tug at it while I'm holding it. Overall I'd recommend it, with realistic expectations about keeping two people completely dry.

Claire Woodward

This umbrella gives me a surprisingly wide bit of cover for something that folds down. It's felt steady in the breezy rain I've used it in, rather than flapping about. Wish it were shorter folded because my small backpack still won't take it, so I end up carrying it. I've managed to leave two on the train already, but keep coming back for another because it does the job so well!

Bonnie Bennett

After more than six months with this umbrella, I can say it has handled the windy days I've actually used it on without turning inside out. I would not take that as a promise that no wind could ever trouble it, however. There is still some pull at the handle when a gust catches the canopy, which is a bit uncomfortable. Overall it has done well enough that I would choose the same model again, just with realistic expectations about bad weather.
