Mine has only just arrived, but the first impression is encouraging.

Mine has only just arrived, but the first impression is encouraging. Compact enough to carry, with a frame that seems quite substantial. It has coped with the gusty weather here in Boston so far.I do think the price is on the high side, although it feels like money reasonably spent. The real test will be getting through summer rain and the colder months, so this is an early opinion- but I like what I have seen and would recommend it.

A successful present all round!

I chose this umbrella as a Christmas present for my mother (she teaches music and has weekly bus duty). Standing outside in the wet is no fun, so why not give her something useful?! She tells me she loves it and that it feels much stronger than her usual umbrellas. It has already had plenty of outings and is still going nicely. She particularly likes how quickly she can get it open when the rain starts. A successful present all round!

Apart from that, it's a very nice umbrella to have along.

There is plenty of space for one person under this umbrella, and the canopy feels well made. A press of the button gets it open straight away. The curved canopy gives me room to get right underneath it when the rain starts coming down. I like the gray, and carrying it doesn't feel heavy. The sleeve slips off and on without a struggle. Putting it away was easy too, and it feels sturdy enough for the rain here in Texas. My one negative is how long it stays after folding. I can't get it into my big purse or backpack, which surprised me a little. Apart from that, it's a very nice umbrella to have along.

Mine arrived carefully packed and in good condition.

After spending far too long comparing umbrellas, I chose this one largely because of the positive comments. It has lived up to them. Mine arrived carefully packed and in good condition. The handle feels substantial and the opening mechanism works smoothly. I also like the understated, classic appearance. Most importantly, my wife and I have shared it in the rain and were pleased with the coverage. I would recommend it from our experience.

Cheryl Riggs

For me that isn't an issue.

We needed to replace a few umbrellas, so I ordered a selection to see what suited us. They have all been useful, but I find myself picking this one most often. The handle has a loop shape that gives me a good hold without feeling awkward. I also like being able to get it open with a button rather than fiddling underneath the canopy. The button also draws the canopy shut, and you compress the shaft yourself afterwards. It takes a little push, so I would show the kids how it works before letting them use it. For me that isn't an issue. Had I tried this one first, I probably would have ordered more of the same instead of experimenting. Considering how it feels in use, I think the price is fair and would recommend it.

Looks excellent, a useful everyday size.

Looks excellent, a useful everyday size. One press opens it and another collapses the canopy, with quite a noticeable snap; you still have to compress the telescoping section manually to pack it away. Slightly weightier than some similar umbrellas I've used. The finish looks good and there was no odd smell. Very satisfied with it so far.

First impression is that this umbrella is put together properly.

First impression is that this umbrella is put together properly. You notice a reassuring solidity in the frame and the moving parts feel good rather than flimsy. There's a handy button on the handle that opens it, and another press draws the canopy closed; you push the shaft back down yourself. I can't judge years of use yet, but it gives me confidence it'll last.Size wise it seems a normal folding umbrella, roughly 40cm packed away, and it goes into my work bags without a struggle.

Luis Boyer

Definitely keeping this one handy!

Living in NYC, I do a lot of walking to the subway and need an umbrella that feels substantial. The tiny folding ones don't give me the cover I want. This one has been good in the wind and rain I've walked through, and the frame is holding up well. It comes with me whenever there's rain and a long walk ahead. Definitely keeping this one handy!

Rhonda Moses

I was puzzled by the "men's umbrella" tag when it arrived.

I was puzzled by the "men's umbrella" tag when it arrived. Didn't know umbrellas needed that distinction. And the umbrella itself really isn't any different. Maybe it's because the loop handle can clip onto a belt. It goes into my purse nicely, so I always have it handy there. I've had it out in the rain several times now and have been very pleased with it.

I wanted a practical item that would still look nice on the table.

Another purchase for the silent auction at our golf outing raising funds for breast cancer. I wanted a practical item that would still look nice on the table. This umbrella seems very well made, and the canopy closing with a button is a nice touch. A useful thing for someone to take home!!

This has been a good choice so far.

For my wife's daily walk through the city, I was looking for something sturdier than the flimsy umbrellas you see abandoned by bins after a wet day. This has been a good choice so far.It feels solid in the hand and she hasn't had to wrestle with it whenever the wind picks up. There is a limit to what an umbrella can do, though. If rain is blowing across you rather than falling straight down, your coat is still going to get wet. I wouldn't buy a compact umbrella expecting it to cover two people or make a really nasty day pleasant. For her usual commute in rain and occasional gusts, it gives useful cover without being a long umbrella to lug around. The button opening is convenient too. Costs a bit more than a basic one, but the build makes that seem reasonable.

Theodore Mathews

She was delighted with it.

Rain was a worry for my daughter's wedding, so I bought her an umbrella they could stand under together. She was delighted with it. It ended up in quite a few of the wedding pictures rather than just being kept ready for a shower. The two of them still like sharing it now, a lovely little reminder of their day!

Colleen Fox

No trouble with it whatsoever.

After hearing such good things about this umbrella, I decided it was worth a try. Well, after using it....I am VERY glad I did. No trouble with it whatsoever. It has handled breezy days and the rain without me needing to replace it. I've had mine for a year or so now and still reach for it. Honestly, a couple of extras would probably be a sensible purchase! :-)

Isabel Mckee

It was given as a gift, so I haven't tried it for myself.

It was given as a gift, so I haven't tried it for myself. The price looked reasonable compared with similar umbrellas. The person who got it liked the gray colour and thought it looked very smart. They've had it several weeks now and haven't mentioned any problems. Seems promising, though of course I'm only going on what I've been told.

Nicolas Baird

Apart from that, it's been a very handy umbrella!

Got this for evening games when I'm sitting in the rain watching the field. It gives me good cover and I can hold it overhead without blocking my view of the game. My one wish is that the sides reached farther down, as my lap can still catch some rain. Apart from that, it's been a very handy umbrella!

SO GLAD I FOUND THIS ONE.

SO GLAD I FOUND THIS ONE.MY OLD FAVOURITE HAD SEEN BETTER DAYS AND I WANTED SOMETHING SIMILAR TO USE EVERY DAY. THIS HAS BEEN OUT SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY AND I'VE KEPT NICE AND DRY. THE FRAME FEELS STRONG AND IT HAS COPED WELL WITH THE BREEZY WEATHER HERE. COMFORTABLE TO HOLD TOO. IT HAS BEEN A GOOD REPLACEMENT AND I ENJOY USING IT.

Had mine for years now.

Had mine for years now. Honestly didn't expect to keep track of an umbrella this long, but it's still here and still sturdy. To be fair I don't use it a lot - about once a month at MOST. The canopy and all the little rib ends still look good, which is more than I expected after so much time being put away and brought out again. No fiddling about to get it open either, I really like having the button. Plenty of space above my own head :D Not big enough for a whole group of preschool kids, although they always want to crowd round on our rainy walks. We still do the silly thing of listening to our voices under it, because apparently umbrellas are entertaining :) A good buy and I'd happily choose the same one again!

Trevor Benitez

I'm very happy with how it's lasted.

More than five years with this umbrella and it has been a much better buy than the smaller ones I've had alongside it. It still gets used regularly, not just kept in a cupboard. I've yet to have the canopy flip over on me.The thing to remember is you still need a proper grip when the wind gets up. It can pull about from side to side, even though the ribs give a little and the cover keeps its shape. not a reason to hold it loosely just because it feels strong. I'm very happy with how it's lasted.

Chelsey Mcintyre

It kept its shape and my upper half stayed dry, which was encouraging.

I have a walk between the station and my office each morning, and wet trouser legs are something I would rather avoid. After a particularly heavy shower left my lower legs and shoes drenched, I decided to replace the small umbrella I had been using. I chose this compact one because taking a very large umbrella along crowded pavements did not seem practical. The stated size sounded like a reasonable compromise between coverage and something I could carry every day. On arrival it looked neatly put together, and the ribs seemed substantial without making it awkward to open. The button operation is convenient. Once I stood underneath it, though, the coverage seemed less generous than I had imagined. I checked the width while it was open and got approximately 105cm, so I cannot say the size was incorrectly described. It was my expectation that was wrong. There is enough room over my head and shoulders, but not much extra shelter for my legs when I am walking. In retrospect I probably needed to accept the inconvenience of a larger umbrella. Update: I have now used it on the walk to work in proper heavy rain with wind. It kept its shape and my upper half stayed dry, which was encouraging. Unfortunately, water running off the edge and rain coming underneath still left my trousers wet below the knees. Handy to carry and perfectly reasonable in lighter rain, but it has not solved the particular problem I bought it for.

A little over a year since I bought this for my daughter (she was 2 1/2 then). It needs an adult hand more than I expected, but that doesn't stop us using it. I like being able to tilt the canopy into slanting rain and still keep her covered. She loves the blue colour, which is the main thing as far as she's concerned.

Cesar Craig

A lovely umbrella that doesn't take much space once folded.

The pink looks prettier in person than it did on my screen, and I've had several people comment on it. A lovely umbrella that doesn't take much space once folded. I carry it while walking around campus and tuck it in my backpack for classes or the train ride. It gives me a welcome patch of shade, especially as my skin doesn't do well with too much sun.

Veronica Pope

All of us were pleased with how they looked on stage.

We bought these for our dance recital and the shape was exactly what the routine needed. Finding blue umbrellas that weren't too domed had been more trouble than expected. VERY reasonable price for what we got. Being able to press a button meant everyone could open theirs together, which was the important part for us! They feel secure when open and fold neatly afterwards. All of us were pleased with how they looked on stage.

Walter Maddox

Very pleased with how it worked.

First outing with it was yesterday and it did exactly what I needed. Nice to have a sleeve/cover to put it away in -- and the oval loop handle is easy to keep hold of. I'm forever putting umbrellas down and forgetting them, so that matters to me. Opened up there's decent room over the things I'm carrying to/from work, instead of having to choose between a dry shoulder and a dry bag. Very pleased with how it worked.

Christy Drake

It has kept me dry when I needed it.

I've had this maybe 2 years, but being in Georgia it hasn't seen that much rain. It has kept me dry when I needed it. I do find it a bit heavy to keep in my bag though, so it isn't always with me. With the little use its had I can't say much about how sturdy it will be. Just okay for me.

Changed cars recently and found my old umbrellas were too long for the door storage in this one. I bought a pair of these instead and both fit in the spaces just right. Being able to open them and fold the canopies with a button is a useful extra when getting in and out of the car.

Jane Roberson

A really neat umbrella.

A really neat umbrella. The frame looks nicely put together and the canopy looked good once it was opened. The button is on the handle and opens it quickly, which was handy for what we needed. Pressing it again draws the canopy closed; you still shorten the pole yourself. The dark underside gives it a different look when you see it from underneath rather than from out front. The oval handle was also easy to hold while moving them around. It comes with a sleeve for putting it away.I haven't tested it outdoors in wet weather. These were used in a theatre production and looked wonderful on stage.

Clarence Lam

Absolutely LOVE using this one!!

Absolutely LOVE using this one!! It's my second, and I'd happily point friends and family towards it. The canopy closes with the button, then I push the stem down to pack it away. Everything folds neatly without me having to wrestle with the ribs. Plus it looks lovely when it's opened up!

Roberto Bolton

I use this regularly for that walk.

I have a twenty-minute walk to work in Arizona, and having some shade makes a noticeable difference on hot mornings. I use this regularly for that walk. It feels nicer being underneath it than out in direct sunshine, and there's enough cover for my head and shoulders. I'm fair skinned and very conscious of how much time I spend in the sun, so that patch of shade is welcome. Not having to hunt for little stretches of shade along the route makes the walk much less of a chore. Two reservations. (1) Folded up, it's bulkier than I had imagined from the word compact. The sleeve needs a fairly tidy fold, and I don't always have the patience for that when I arrive at work. (2) The button closes the canopy, not the whole shaft. You have to compress that yourself. I know that's how it's meant to work, but it takes a firmer push than I'd prefer. On balance, it's a useful purchase and I would choose it again. It's just a bit more effort to pack away than I'd like.

What a difference this umbrella has made!

What a difference this umbrella has made! My dog still needs a walk when it's raining, and managing a lead as well as an umbrella usually leaves me wet. I'm a larger person and with the smaller ones I was forever finding one shoulder sticking out. There is a comfortable amount of cover under this one, so I'm not constantly shifting it from side to side. It feels solid without being awkward to carry, and the handle sits comfortably in my hand. Much nicer walks in the rain now.

Marilyn Andrews

A small criticism of an otherwise impressive umbrella.

The design is unusually smart for something as ordinary as an umbrella. My one reservation is the handle, which looks rather plain beside the rest of it. Pressing the button gives a positive, controlled opening and the canopy settles into shape with a reassuring firmness. The fabric and frame look well finished, and it doesn't have that loose, flimsy feeling I dislike. The oval loop is practical enough to hold, but visually it feels more basic than the upper part. A small criticism of an otherwise impressive umbrella.

Valerie Parrish

Happy with this one, very handy umbrella to have.

Used it for the first time n it was fab. Plenty of room for me n my little dog to stay dry. Pink is a nice colour for a lady or a gentleman, no reason not to. I can clip the handle to a belt loop when its closed so my hands are free n I'm not carrying it!Happy with this one, very handy umbrella to have.

For photographs, this has been a really nice addition to my props.

For photographs, this has been a really nice addition to my props. The little girls enjoy posing with it, and the grown up ladies like having something to do with their hands instead of standing there feeling awkward. The plain canopy works in lots of pictures without taking over the scene. There are some fold marks in the fabric when first opened, but that hasn't bothered me. I'll put up a photo from one of the sessions so you can judge how it looks. Really pretty for what I paid, and I'd get the same again if needed.

Sonya Chapman

Small enough that I actually take it with me.

Small enough that I actually take it with me. My wife kept eyeing it up, so I ended up getting another for her. It has been fine in showers, although I haven't put it through a storm. Coverage isn't huge, but that is what my big golf umbrella is for, and that one is no fun to lug about.

Joseph Simmons

It arrived today so I've had a little time to try it out.

It arrived today so I've had a little time to try it out. Rain and possibly sleet forecast for tomorrow, so I'll add more after taking it outside. These are my first impressions.- Outer packaging looked knocked about but the umbrella itself was fine- It was inside a sealed bag with a sleeve to put it away in- The loop handle sits nicely in my hand. I'm a fairly average size man (just very tall) and there's enough room to get a comfortable grip- Pressing the button opens it automatically, pressing again brings the canopy in. You push the shaft down by hand afterwards- Packed away it isn't particularly long, which is what I wanted- Once up it covers me comfortably and there's room for another person provided I feel like sharing my dry space- Gave it a fairly vigorous flap about to see how the frame would react to being pushed around. The ribs flexed instead of feeling completely rigid and everything looked straight afterwards. Obviously that isn't the same as taking it out in proper weather, but a reassuring start. So far it feels solid and the parts seem nicely fitted together. Happy with what I've seen today, will come back with more when I've actually used it in the rain.

Wind and rain are everyday things here, and this has been brilliant!

If that sounds a little over the top, I live on the northern Oregon coast. Wind and rain are everyday things here, and this has been brilliant! We do look after it a bit, not taking it into the really wild wind. There's plenty of shelter for two people and it does a great job for making getting about that bit more pleasant.

Gina Owen

A good umbrella with a couple of everyday fiddly bits.

I've wasted enough money on flimsy umbrellas. Wanted something I could take along without it being useless once the rain started. This one gets the important part right. The canopy gives me decent coverage, the frame feels substantial, and the opening action is quick. It has behaved well in breezy rain too. What I don't love is the stuff around that. The loop handle isn't my favourite shape to hold for ages, and putting it neatly into the sleeve takes more patience than I'd like. Those are small things, but I notice them when I pack it away. A good umbrella with a couple of everyday fiddly bits.

Seth Le

Somehow this umbrella has made me the cool Grandma.

Somehow this umbrella has made me the cool Grandma. My grandson keeps it in his school backpack and really likes using it. At ten he has very definite ideas about being a "trend setter" and apparently his friends approve of this one. So for the moment I've chosen something right and am enjoying my bit of credit :-)

Finally an umbrella I feel confident carrying when it's windy!

Finally an umbrella I feel confident carrying when it's windy! The weather I've used it in hasn't bothered it so far. I kept going for cheap convenience store umbrellas and wishing I'd spent a little more. This feels like a much better choice, solid without looking bulky or ugly. Paying extra seems worthwhile now. Very glad I stopped buying just on price and picked something I actually enjoy using.

Vincent Douglas

Everything looked good when I unpacked the umbrella.

Everything looked good when I unpacked the umbrella. It came along on a long car journey and has been easy to keep with me. So far I've actually needed it just once, in steady rain with a fair bit of wind, and it did a great job keeping me covered! I love how it looks as well as how it works. I'm already looking forward to taking it out again when the weather turns! Pretty as well as practical.

Ana Jarvis

VERY pleased with how it's held up.

We use it on our dog walks, at least five times daily for about fifteen minutes each. For the price I wasn't expecting it to feel this solid! It's been with us through spring and part of summer, including some properly rainy days. The ribs have a bit of give rather than feeling rigid. Even on our breezier walks it has been comfortable to use, with no turning inside out so far. VERY pleased with how it's held up. Definitely worth buying!!!

Ian Carson

Really cute umbrella in cream white.

Really cute umbrella in cream white. I use it for college and the size suits me (I'm 5'1), not too much umbrella to manage. Only downside is the light colour needs keeping clean, so I have to be a little careful where I put it. Overall it's been great for me and hasn't gone inside out when there's been some wind.

Latasha Santos

Feels like a proper umbrella.

Feels like a proper umbrella. Got it for my wife and our young son on the school run when its wet. Enough cover for them together if they stay close, and it does a decent job when the rain comes sideways. Worth considering. Does what we need. The gray looks a little different from the pictures, not quite the shade I expected. Small thing. Overall its been money well spent.

Heather Shields

Worth the money.

I have arthritis bad in my hands and getting an umbrella up is difficult, especially with something in the other hand. This is such a help. Press once to open, press again to bring the canopy in. The pole still needs a push from me afterwards, but I find that manageable. I would hate to go back to doing all of it manually. Worth the money.

Anne Willis

The automatic opening is excellent!

Very attractive in person. Wasn't sure about the unusual handle at first, but I like it now. I use it regularly (we've had rain for weeks) and it's been very handy. A little less space than I pictured, but fine for just me. The automatic opening is excellent! I'd recommend it to anyone.

Jim Daniel

This folding umbrella has been a very useful travel purchase.

This folding umbrella has been a very useful travel purchase. At about 40cm closed it goes in my camera bag, and I used it a lot on my Nova Scotia holiday. Being able to collapse the canopy before getting into a car or through a doorway is the best part. Opening it with the button is equally handy when you're trying to step outside without getting drenched. You do compress the stem yourself once the canopy is shut. Very practical.

Madison Rocha

The handle is my favourite part of this umbrella.

The handle is my favourite part of this umbrella. That oval shape sits nicely in my hand, something the picture didn't really convey. The plain black finish looks smart too. There is a good amount of space underneath, and it's coped well with rain and wind so far. People have even commented on it's appearance.

Roger Jimenez

My wife was delighted with this umbrella.

My wife was delighted with this umbrella. It's black, with a neat oval loop for the handle rather than a long curved hook. The button makes getting the canopy up simple without any fiddling. There is also a sleeve to put it in once it's dry, which keeps it tidy for storing.

Marc Mueller

Good quality umbrella with a solid feel.

Good quality umbrella with a solid feel. I don't imagine normal wind will bother it much. I wish I'd gone bigger though; at about 105cm across it's comfortable for me, but two people would be pushing it.Later update: the push button opening has been fantastic in use, very pleased with that part.

Olivia Douglas

The loop handle looked rather small in the pictures.

I wanted something roomier than my old folding umbrella without giving up the automatic button, and this is pretty close to what I had in mind. Opened out it's about 105cm across, which is a useful size, although I'd pictured it a little wider. Still, it covers more than the one it replaces. I don't understand the idea that a plain blue umbrella has to be for either men or women--surely anyone can carry it. I went with what suited me rather than worrying about that, and nobody in the street seems remotely interested in my choice of umbrella! The loop handle looked rather small in the pictures. It is fairly compact, but even with my big hands I can hold it comfortably enough. I haven't found myself constantly adjusting my grip, which was what I was concerned about. Not quite the giant umbrella I'd imagined, but a useful everyday size.

Cristina Good

I LOVE having this umbrella again.

I LOVE having this umbrella again. One I used years ago was stolen, and I've missed having something I actually enjoyed carrying. A previous try at finding a replacement wasn't a happy experience, so I hesitated before buying this one. Ordered it tho -- and it came carefully packed, which was a relief. The simple shape appeals to me and the whole thing has a sturdy feel. It makes a wet day less dreary (and has earned a few smiles from other people too). I don't normally spend this much on an umbrella, but sometimes it's worth paying for something you genuinely want. For me, this was one of those times.
