Umbrellas are one of those things I resent needing.

Umbrellas are one of those things I resent needing. Walking in the rain without one is unpleasant, but wrestling with one that won't stay over your head isn't much of an improvement. I've had small folding ones that were convenient right up until I actually needed to use them. A gust would get under the edge and suddenly keeping the umbrella the right way round became the main occupation of the walk. Bigger umbrellas have been less troublesome, although carrying a long umbrella around afterwards gets old fairly quickly. There is also the business of lowering it against the weather and then having to look around it to see ahead. A while back I started thinking about the umbrellas I remembered from childhood. The deeper shape seemed to shelter you rather than just putting a little roof above you, and being able to see through those old canopies was useful. That memory made me look more carefully at what I wanted from another umbrella. I didn't really want another full-length one, though, so I ended up trying this compact Haven instead. It isn't a replacement for that enclosed bubble shape, and the Cream White fabric certainly isn't transparent. You still need to leave yourself a clear view beneath the edge. However, it feels more substantial in use than the little folding umbrellas that put me off this type in the first place. The coverage is comfortable for me, and so far ordinary showers haven't turned into a battle with the frame. Opening it with the button is handy when stepping outside, and I appreciate being able to put it away rather than having a long wet stick to carry for the rest of the day. My reservation is that folded doesn't mean tiny. It takes up a noticeable amount of space, so it isn't something I'd put in every bag and forget about. Still, that seems a reasonable trade for an umbrella I actually want to use. Not quite my remembered childhood umbrella, but a useful compromise.

I love having it with me when it rains.

Rain season in my city is no joke so I needed something decent.Previous umbrellas have not lasted me well, this feels much stronger. The handle is nice to hold and that closed loop clips to my backpack.I knocked it against my heavy bag and... no trouble, still working nicely.I love having it with me when it rains. For me definitely a good buy

I push the shaft down by hand to pack it away.

After choosing one for myself, I picked another as a gift for a friend. The blue is so much nicer to carry on a gloomy day. It isn't just about the looks either, the button opens it promptly and gathers the canopy back in afterwards. I push the shaft down by hand to pack it away. Still makes me smile when I take it out.

Very happy with the quality.

Needed something that could share a backpack with notebooks and the rest of my stuff. The old umbrella didn't cope with being jostled around in there. This feels much more substantial. We don't get much serious wind here, so I can't say what a big storm would do, but for everyday carrying it's reassuring.Had it in the bag over a month now and it still looks fresh. Very happy with the quality.

I keep another in the car as well.

Lost my previous one while travelling, and liked it enough to get the same umbrella again. It folds to a manageable size and isn't a burden in my bag or backpack. I keep another in the car as well. Not the tiniest umbrella you can buy, but it doesn't take over the space and it's very useful to have when the rain starts.

The button moves the canopy both ways without any fuss.

I expected more of a wait after ordering, so it was a nice surprise when it turned up sooner than I'd thought. Seeing it in person gave me more confidence than the pictures alone had. The build feels substantial and the cream white looks much as I expected. I haven't had it out in really rough weather, so can't say anything useful about that yet. The handle is an oval loop rather than the sort of hook I usually picture on an umbrella. It took a moment to get used to, but sits nicely in my hand. The button moves the canopy both ways without any fuss.

PEOPLE OFTEN COMMENT ON THIS UMBRELLA WHEN I HAVE IT OUT.

PEOPLE OFTEN COMMENT ON THIS UMBRELLA WHEN I HAVE IT OUT. THE CREAM WHITE IS REALLY PRETTY. I CAN REACH IT OUT THROUGH THE CAR DOOR AND PRESS THE BUTTON BEFORE STEPPING INTO THE RAIN. PLENTY OF COVER ONCE IT'S OPEN, AND IT MAKES A GREY DAY FEEL A LITTLE NICER.

Fits comfortably in my work bag, which was the main thing for me.

Fits comfortably in my work bag, which was the main thing for me. Opening it is quick and putting it away is straightforward. I leave it partly open to dry before using the sleeve, and it dries out nicely. For the money it handles everything I need an everyday umbrella to do. If I lost this one I would buy the same again.

I feel slightly overprepared standing under it in a light drizzle.

The amount of cover surprised me when I first opened it--folded up, it hadn't looked like much. I feel slightly overprepared standing under it in a light drizzle. Still, I dislike arriving anywhere wet, especially with my laptop along, so having room over my shoulders and the things I'm carrying is welcome. Two people could shelter beneath it, though they'd need to be fairly friendly. The oval handle gives me a secure hold, and the fabric and shaft seem substantial enough for regular use. I've had it about a month, which isn't much of a test of longevity, but my impression so far is good. It weighs more than its folded appearance suggested, so I wouldn't choose it for a small child or someone whose main concern is carrying as little as possible. Closing takes a button press to collapse the canopy, followed by pushing the shaft back down by hand. That leaves a compact bundle, rather than a full-length umbrella I have to keep track of after the rain stops. I'd recommend it if you want decent coverage for yourself and your belongings but still need something that packs away. Probably unnecessary if you only dash between doorways, or regard getting slightly damp as part of your mysterious outdoor personality.

The button action suits my commute really well.

The button action suits my commute really well. When folded, the umbrella is a little shorter than my backpack is wide, so it isn't awkward to pack. The sleeve is useful for keeping it tidy, and the oval loop handle gives me a secure hold when I am carrying the bag as well (I usually keep it within reach rather than burying it underneath everything, so I don't have to unpack my bag just because it starts raining). One press brings the canopy in, then I shorten the shaft manually before putting it away. It has managed the normal rain and breezes here in DC without trouble. I haven't tested it anywhere much more exposed, but for the journey to work it is an excellent fit for me.

10/10 I wasn't expecting so much space from an umbrella that folds!

10/10 I wasn't expecting so much space from an umbrella that folds! We can both get underneath when we stand close, which is what I wanted. Time will tell how long it lasts, but the first impression is excellent. Pressing the button brings the canopy in, then you shorten the stem yourself with a firm push. That's just how it packs away, and I still think it was money well spent.

Michelle Ellis

For me the shade and rain cover make it worth carrying

For hiking I tend to look for plain, practical gear rather than something that shouts at you, tho an umbrella isn't what everybody thinks of first. This one suits me well. It folds down enough to pack alongside my other things, and I appreciate the simple appearance. Anyone counting every gram should remember it's about 390g, so not an ultralight bit of kit. For me the shade and rain cover make it worth carrying

A brilliant umbrella, feels strong, copes nicely when the wind comes round the corner, no turning inside out so far, my favourite one yet, would tell anybody to get it, thank you 😘 so delighted with it, already thinking of getting some for the family, recommended a thousand times over

Yes, it costs a bit.

Yes, it costs a bit. I first took mine travelling five years back and it's lived in my pack or laptop bag pretty much ever since. 1) There's proper coverage when it's open, not that tiny canopy you sometimes get with a folding umbrella. 2) Manageable weight to carry, but with a reassuring feel once you're holding it up. 3) The beige fabric sits nicely over the ribs and the whole thing feels well made. One point about putting it away: pressing the button folds the canopy, it doesn't pull the telescoping shaft down for you. You push that in by hand. I don't rush that part or try to fling it about to make it shut, just let the mechanism do its bit. It has been a useful thing to have sitting in the bag all this time. Worth spending a little more on something I actually keep using.

Aimee Peterson

She's thoroughly pleased with having her very own umbrella.

Couldn't get an umbrella for my grandson and leave my granddaughter out. She loves hers! The button needs a firmer press than she manages comfortably, so I help with that. Oh, once it's up she's off enjoying it. She's thoroughly pleased with having her very own umbrella. Came neatly packed as well. Thanks..

Kerri Guerra

The compromise for me is the oval handle.

Hard to believe how much cover you get when it's open, looking at the size of it folded away. It slips into the laptop bags I carry, which is the main reason I wanted a folding umbrella. The compromise for me is the oval handle. It's shorter than what I'm used to on a large umbrella, so I don't have quite the same grip with my whole hand. Fine in normal rain, but I do find myself holding it a bit more firmly when there's a breeze. Still useful overall.

He loves having an umbrella of his own.

My three year old son is absolutely delighted with his umbrella. We had lots of rain a few days back and he wanted to wander round the backyard with it the whole time. I helped get it open and off he went, pleased as anything. Useful for a little shade when the sun is out too. He loves having an umbrella of his own.

Stuart Garrison

Both girls enjoy getting outside in the rain with their umbrellas.

My two year old wanted her own umbrella after seeing her older sister with one, so I bought this. It is bigger than a toddler umbrella, but nicely made and very sweet looking. I help with the button and holding it. Both girls enjoy getting outside in the rain with their umbrellas.

Kiara Tran

Looks nice and keeps the rain off.

Looks nice and keeps the rain off. Only complaint: putting it away is a bit of a fiddle. The button closes the canopy, then the stem needs shortening manually. I find the sleeve rather snug too, unless I've smoothed all the fabric down carefully first. Not enough to put me off using it, but not quite effortless either.

Brittany Quinn

This umbrella looks absolutely lovely.

This umbrella looks absolutely lovely. The gray is softer and smarter than I expected, and still looks nice on a miserable wet day! I chose another for my mother at Christmas, she was delighted too. They feel nicely made as well as looking good. Easy to recommend!

Courtney Burke

A lovely little upgrade for the commute!

Received the green one for my birthday as I wanted something dependable that would fit in my work bag. It has turned out to be a really useful present. Doesn't weigh my bag down too much and a thumb on the button has it ready for the rain straight away. My old umbrella has been going for years, though it looks rather tired now, so I'm hoping for the same sort of service from this one. A lovely little upgrade for the commute!

Howard Evans

Otherwise it feels sturdy and fits my computer bag for work.

4 stars, mainly down to what I'd prefer rather than a problem with it. The canopy goes up and down with the button, but I still have to push the shaft back in. I knew that, just wish it did everything.Maybe I'm lazy? Otherwise it feels sturdy and fits my computer bag for work. I've carried it for two months and we've only had rain three times. Starting to wonder if just having an umbrella with me is keeping the weather nice?

Alejandro Ponce

It feels solid and the blue looks good.

A birthday present for a friend who's 22 and rather keen on swords. Not quite as dramatic, but a useful bit of kit for facing the rain! It feels solid and the blue looks good. The button pops it open without fiddling. Plenty of cover for your head and shoulders, although a backpack could still stick out. The sleeve keeps it together when put away. I had a wander round the house holding it up (purely checking the present was suitable, of course). Quite enjoyed being prepared for imaginary rain.Highly recommended. PS The closed oval handle is different from what I'm used to, but comfortable in my hand. Nothing too fancy, just a nice practical present that doesn't look like a boring emergency umbrella!

Tracy Mays

The oval handle is comfortable in my hand too.

I'd had enough of buying cheap umbrellas that were no use after a wet and windy walk, so I decided to spend a bit more on this one. So far I'm glad I did! It's kept me dry and has coped well with the gusty spots I walk through. I was expecting something much more cumbersome from how much cover it gives when opened. I'm very short, and carrying a big umbrella usually seems like more trouble than it's worth. But this one is manageable! It folds down neatly enough to put away and the sleeve is useful for keeping everything together in my bag. The oval handle is comfortable in my hand too. I don't find myself wishing I'd left it at home, which says a lot. One small thing, the gray looks a little darker than I expected from the picture. Still a nice shade though, and I'm very happy with it.

Valerie Beltran

probably my favourite umbrella yet.

buying umbrellas can feel like guesswork, but this one has been a good choice so far. I chose black and the button action is really handy, both putting it up and folding the canopy down. The frame feels sturdy, and there's a sleeve for carrying it. probably my favourite umbrella yet.

Mike Costa

Keeping track of it is the next challenge.

Umbrellas haven't generally lasted very long for me, so I wanted to spend a bit more on something better this time. I read through loads of reviews and kept finding the same worries, even with some expensive choices. Eventually I settled on this one and I'm glad I took the chance. I've had it out several times now and it feels dependable, which is really all I wanted. Nothing fancy to work out, just a useful umbrella that feels properly put together. Its a relief not wondering whether it will cope every time it rains. Keeping track of it is the next challenge.

My daughter needed an umbrella for school in Minnesota.

My daughter needed an umbrella for school in Minnesota. The little one she had before wasn't a bargain either, yet it went inside out on a windy day on campus. We thought we'd try this as a replacement. She says she's really pleased with it and it has been doing well in the rain and wind. Many thanks

Larry Obrien

This umbrella makes me happy.

This umbrella makes me happy. I'd seen a little video that got me interested and now I couldn't be more glad I tried it! It's nice taking a walk after dark without worrying about the rain. Nothing fancy to figure out, it works and I'd recommend it to anybody needing a handy umbrella.

Felicia Frazier

she was delighted.

My daughter's birthday present was early / well late by the time we actually handed it over .. she was delighted. Windy weather where she lives makes a decent umbrella worth having, and she says it held up nicely on a wet blustery day !!! The cream white was exactly her sort of colour !! chalk one up for Mum ;-)

Jocelyn Atkins

Everything looks in good shape and it feels solid.

Mine arrived today and I've only opened it indoors so far. Everything looks in good shape and it feels solid. I haven't taken it into rain yet, just stood underneath to check the coverage and wow it looks big!! Maybe it's me, but I felt a bit on display holding it hahaha. I'm pretty small so that probably doesn't help hehe. Not an actual problem with the umbrella, just my silly first reaction. With that much canopy I imagine it'll keep me nicely covered, and looks like someone else could squeeze underneath too. So if a larger umbrella doesn't bother you this seems a really nice one! I'd like to come back with more thoughts once I've actually had a chance to use it outside.

Austin Barajas

Closing needs a little more explanation.

First impression was how substantial this feels for a folding umbrella! I wanted one for the occasional rainy day, with better coverage than the tiny things I have used before. It does that job well, and the canopy feels reassuringly supported. The trade-off is that it occupies more bag space than I expected and isn't the lightest thing to carry around. Opening is straightforward: press the button and it springs out. Closing needs a little more explanation. The button brings the canopy in, then you manually push the telescoping shaft back until it clicks ready for next time. That last push needs more pressure than I anticipated, although it works properly. Overall, good rain coverage and a solid feel, with some extra bulk and a closing routine I wouldn't call effortless.

Lynn Briggs

A good buy!!

I expected a decent umbrella for the money and this feels better than that.Haven't had a lot of rain yet, so I'm still getting used to pressing the button, but it opens out to a useful size. The green is a lovely deep colour, and all those ribs make it feel well supported. It feels firm in the hand when a breeze catches it too,not flimsy at all. Nothing to grumble about so far and I'd be comfortable recommending it. Would certainly consider another. A good buy!!

Stacie Suarez

The construction feels solid.

My dad and I each took one travelling. The construction feels solid. Opens cleanly. It dealt well with the rain and the gusts we met. Folded down it stays close at hand rather than being awkward luggage. A dependable umbrella and a reassuring thing to have along.

Dale Soto

I've used it in the rain and it works really well.

"I was excited as soon as I saw it because it looks so nice. The handle is my favourite part. I've used it in the rain and it works really well. I didn't see another one I wanted more than this. My brother finds his umbrella hard to close but I can do the button on mine! I get help pushing it all the way down again."--My daughter, aged 8.She is delighted with it. Just bear in mind that compact when folded doesn't mean it is a little child's umbrella when open! It's quite a decent size and she uses it with supervision. I wouldn't buy it expecting a tiny umbrella for small hands. For a teenager I think the size would be perfectly reasonable.

Caitlyn Moody

I bought this more for shade during some fence repairs than for rain.

I bought this more for shade during some fence repairs than for rain. There was a fair bit of work to catch up on and standing outside in the sun gets old quickly. The green appealed to me because I didn't fancy anything especially bright or flashy. It's a handheld umbrella, so for the actual repair work I set it aside, but it was welcome shade when I stopped for a breather or looked over the next section. Living in Florida means a summer shower is always a possibility too, and I've now had the chance to use it for that. It covered me well and I stayed dry. So it has been useful in both sorts of weather, which was what I hoped. Seems well put together for the price.

Geoffrey Stein

Not the cheapest umbrella, but I think the extra was worthwhile.

Not the cheapest umbrella, but I think the extra was worthwhile. I live near the lake in Cleveland and work downtown, so those wet, gusty walks are familiar. With the little bargain umbrellas I used to spend more time trying to hold them straight than watching where I was going. Used this yesterday and it stayed manageable, with good cover over me. That's what I wanted, and I'm delighted with it!

Christian Macdonald

Quite impressed.

First outing was in a proper downpour and I was glad to have it with me. Even with the rain blowing about, the frame stayed steady and I stayed dry underneath. Quite impressed. Afterwards it dried out nicely and was straightforward to fold up again, still looking tidy.

I ordered two as a gift for a bride to be.

I ordered two as a gift for a bride to be. If the wedding day turns wet, she can still have her outdoor pictures without everybody rushing indoors. I've had decorative umbrellas before and wanted something that would look elegant but also be useful afterwards. The beige is a nice, quiet color for that, and she was pleased with them. The main thing I'd point out is that folded does not mean tiny. When putting one in a bag or getting out of the car you do need to leave enough room for it, rather than treating it like a pocket umbrella. The loop handle is comfortable, though it takes up a little extra space among other things. I opened both before giving them to her and the action felt smooth. I did have to give the fabric a tidy fold afterwards to get them packed neatly again. For the price I would buy them again. Practical enough for everyday and nice enough for the occasion.

My mom wanted two things from an umbrella.

My mom wanted two things from an umbrella. 1 - something that folds up for her bag. 2 - a nice green color. This turned out to be a great choice. Smart without being flashy, and it fits her bigger purse!! She's mentioned several times how much she enjoys using it. Not the cheapest, but the quality makes me feel it was money well spent!

Matching my umbrella to what I'm wearing is one of those little things I enjoy, and the gray works with my summer clothes and winter things equally well. It has kept the rain off, dries out fairly quickly and hasn't been pushed inside out on breezy days. Pleased with my choice and would happily suggest it to someone looking for an umbrella!

Carmen Schaefer

She was absolutely delighted.

My granddaughter had a whole pile of toys for her birthday, yet this was the thing she wanted to carry around. Once she opened the umbrella from us (me and my hubby), everything else had to wait. We did spend a little extra on it, but seeing her that excited made it worth every penny. She was absolutely delighted.

My 2-year-old son decided he absolutely had to have an umbrella.

My 2-year-old son decided he absolutely had to have an umbrella. I wasn't expecting it to stay nice for very long, knowing what he's like with things, but I liked this one and the price seemed fair. Well, it's been here for - I think about 3 or 4 months now - and it still looks surprisingly good. We use it together when it rains and I do the button part for him, which he finds very exciting. It isn't just a rainy day thing either. He wants it up when we're out by the sprinkler in the sunshine, and has even asked to keep it beside his bed. Not quite what I imagined when getting an umbrella, but I'm very happy with it.

i ordered this for our wedding pictures as im using pink in the wedding colours. I had imagined a shot looking up under it with the pink showing, so finding a plain black underside was a little disappointing. Its a pretty umbrella anyway and the outside looks right for the photos, just wish there had been a clearer picture of the inside.

This is worth figuring out somewhere dry first.

This has been a dependable umbrella for the sort of rain I actually go out in. Light showers and steady rain are handled well enough that I arrive reasonably dry. In really heavy rain, particularly when it is coming at an angle, your lower half is still going to get wet. It is a compact umbrella, not a portable room, and I think that distinction saves a lot of disappointment. The flexibility of the frame is probably its most useful quality. Wind getting underneath any canopy puts a surprising amount of strain on it. A gust did catch this one and turn it over, which looked rather alarming, but once I got it back into shape there was no damage. I'd much rather have that give in the frame than hear something snap. Getting it facing the proper direction again was also much less of a production than I expected. After that I worked out a reasonably smooth way of lowering it and gently guiding the edge back round, rather than standing there wrestling with it over my head. This is worth figuring out somewhere dry first. Learning umbrella technique while water runs down your neck doesn't bring out your patient side, or at least it doesn't bring out mine. I thought I looked quite accomplished once I had the hang of it. Nobody else appeared particularly interested. Apparently people walking through miserable weather have priorities other than admiring a stranger's umbrella handling. Very disappointing. I wouldn't describe any handheld umbrella as something you can take into ANY weather without thinking. For normal use, though, this has been an excellent compromise between manageable size and a frame that has some forgiveness. Even shaking the water off feels less awkward because the ribs have a little spring to them. That isn't an invitation to abuse it, just something I noticed. The best recommendation I can give is that the one I used for several years is being replaced because I lost it, not because it stopped being useful. It came along on regular walks around the city and was still doing what I needed when I misplaced it. An umbrella isn't especially exciting until you don't have one. I'm choosing the same one again rather than starting the search all over.

This was a gift, since I use a similar umbrella myself.

This was a gift, since I use a similar umbrella myself. I think of it as the one to take when you've had your hair done or are going somewhere nice.It gives a good amount of cover without looking clumsy. A little bulky folded, but useful for those special days!

About 40cm when folded, fits inside my student backpack well, then opens to roughly 105cm so there is proper room underneathThe fabric and frame both feel good quality, not too much weight to carry around, automatic opening and canopy closing work smoothly, a push by hand finishes folding it - useful for a wet winter in New York

It took no time to get used to that.

An umbrella was something I fell in love with as a little girl, and I actually saved up for it. By the time I could go back, the shop was gone! That little disappointment stayed with me, so finding one now that I genuinely enjoy carrying has made me ridiculously happy. The gray is lovely and understated, and there is a reassuring sturdiness to it when it is open. Folded up it goes in my purse, which means it can come with me rather than stay at home. A press on the handle opens it right out, and pressing again gathers the canopy closed. I then push the telescoping part down myself to finish putting it away. It took no time to get used to that. Not a complicated thing to get excited about, I know, but it feels like finally treating that little girl to an umbrella she would have loved!

Wind does require a little attention.

Every year I watch golden eagle nests for a project that tracks whether the nesting attempts succeed. One of my observation points this season was completely exposed, with no nearby tree to sit under. I was far enough from the nest to observe without getting close to the birds, so I could work beside my truck with a chair and spotting scope. That part was fine. Being out there for several hours in unusually warm weather was another matter. A hat and sunblock were not making those long stretches in direct sunshine very pleasant. I tried this umbrella for some portable shade, and it has made a real difference to my comfort. Once it was up, I was no longer sitting with the sun beating directly down on me. I can not give an actual temperature difference, since I did not measure one, but being beneath the canopy was noticeably more comfortable than being out from under it. That is what I needed, rather than any special arrangement at the site. There is enough shaded space for me in the chair, although I still have to move it as the sun changes position. Wind does require a little attention. I keep the top facing toward an approaching breeze instead of allowing the air to get underneath and pull against my hand. For this sort of use I would not just open it and forget about where it is pointing. The flexible frame has coped with the conditions I have used it in, but I have no basis for saying how much wind it could stand. I am watching the weather anyway, so making those small adjustments is not much extra trouble. The purchase has worked out very well for this particular job. It is easy to bring along without adding another large item to my equipment, and the button makes putting it up simple. My only real difficulty is trying to hold it overhead and make notes on my log and data sheets at the same time. A little more handle length would of made that juggling easier for me. That is a consequence of what I am doing, though, and not something I imagine would bother most people using it normally.

Derek Daniels

A sensible umbrella for rainy days on crowded New York sidewalks.

A sensible umbrella for rainy days on crowded New York sidewalks. It gives me enough cover without feeling like I'm taking over all the space. Fairly light to carry as well, and the frame feels sturdy. I still angle it towards the wind rather than expect miracles, but it's handled everyday wet weather nicely. I'm glad to have it.
