I'd recommend it.

My cream white umbrella is compact for the coverage, and I find it simple to handle. The sleeve keeps it gathered together among everything else in my bag. The loop handle is shorter than the handles I'm used to, which might not suit you if your tall, but it doesn't bother me. Fits my bag without a struggle. I'd recommend it.

the button pops it open, then another press draws the canopy shut.

Only arrived today so I haven't tried it in rain, but first impressions are of a sturdy, straightforward umbrella. The oval loop handle feels nice to hold and the canopy looks neatly finished. the button pops it open, then another press draws the canopy shut. You still have to push the telescoping stem down yourself to pack it away. It's bigger open than it looks folded, plenty to cover a child with me holding it. Seems good for the price, I'll add more here if anything changes after use.

Haven't tried it in rain yet, tomorrow should be the test.

After reading so many gloomy umbrella reviews I wasn't sure what to order. Mine came today and looks really nice, also a decent size when opened. The button sends it up and another press collapses the canopy. You still have to push the shaft back down by hand. WHAT I LIKE IS HOW MUCH COVER YOU GET-- it doesn't look that big when folded, even..Haven't tried it in rain yet, tomorrow should be the test. If I end up getting soaked I'll come back and say so.

It has done well in the rain so far.

Im small and walk just about everywhere in NYC, so I don't want a giant umbrella bumping everyone on the pavement. This gives me enough room without being awkward to carry. After spending on cheap umbrellas before, I much prefer something that feels solid. It has done well in the rain so far.For the amount of walking I do, money well spent.

He gets there dry & enjoys carrying it himself.

The little boy I look after is so pleased to have an umbrella of his own! He likes pressing the button & I help shorten it afterwards! Easy to hold over him on the way from the car to preschool, while I carry mine. He gets there dry & enjoys carrying it himself. He absolutely LOVES it!

Not my most comfortable grip, but I enjoy using it.

Rainy days are dull enough without carrying something I don't enjoy looking at. The loop handle gives this a little character and people at work have commented on it. Not my most comfortable grip, but I enjoy using it. They can tease, at least I can spot mine on the desk!

Mario Huff

Certainly a nice umbrella.

Attractive and well put together, with a weight I find comfortable to carry. The appearance suits everyday clothes as well as a more dressed-up outfit. Certainly a nice umbrella.Nevertheless, I would separate using it for shade from buying a specialist sun-protection parasol. A canopy over your head is pleasant on a sunny day, but that alone does not tell me what level of protection I am getting. I would not choose it on the assumption that ordinary shade means a particular level of UV protection. For rain and a little relief from direct sunshine, it suits me. If a specified protection level is your main requirement, I would want clear information before making that decision. It is an attractive umbrella, though, and I intend to keep it.

It's a good solid bit of kit and looks nice without being flashy.

My husband opened this at Christmas and gave me that look you get when you've bought someone something practical instead of something exciting. That didn't last long because he actually loves the umbrella. It's a good solid bit of kit and looks nice without being flashy. I wish the sleeve had a bit more shape to it, because getting everything tucked back inside is more fiddly than it needs to be. Nothing wrong with the umbrella itself though. The button is handy and it feels properly made, so the supposedly boring present has turned out to be a pretty damn good one.

Update after a few outings in the rain.

Update after a few outings in the rain. This felt like a properly made umbrella when I first opened it, not something flimsy that I would be replacing straight away. Having used it several times now, I'm still of that opinion. There is enough canopy to give me decent cover in a downpour, and I haven't had to fight to keep it steady whenever the wind picks up. I expected it might flip over, but the ribs have some give without the whole thing feeling weak. The one thing I am not impressed with is getting the sleeve back on. It came out easily enough, getting it back in is another matter (for me anyway). Once it has been opened and used I find myself spending more time folding the material neatly than I want to. The umbrella itself has been very good, so this is a small annoyance rather than a reason to regret buying it. After more use I am particularly happy with how solid the frame feels. It has flexed in gusts and still kept its shape, which was what I wanted. You may be more patient than me with the sleeve; I tend to leave it aside until I can get everything folded properly. Just something to be aware of before expecting it to slide in first try. I'm happy with what I paid. The construction feels substantial and the useful part, keeping the rain off, has been excellent. Bear in mind that compact doesn't mean tiny here. At roughly 40cm folded it still needs some space, although it is much handier to carry than a full-length umbrella.

Had this given to me about two years back, such a nice design.

Had this given to me about two years back, such a nice design. People still ask about it. Simple black. It gets passed around a fair bit, especially when my grandchildren are here, so it certainly hasn't just sat in a cupboard. The button is handy and there's a good amount of shelter when it's raining. I do try to let it dry before putting it away though, with all the use it gets. Would definitely have another for myself and let the grandkids keep using this one, they seem to like it as much as I do!!

Bought this because I'd heard good things about the brand.

Bought this because I'd heard good things about the brand. Straight away it feels like a quality umbrella, solid in the hand and the fittings seem very well made. The button on the handle is a really nice feature, it opens up and also brings the canopy down automatically. From these first impressions I can see it lasting a long time. The size feels pretty standard to me, its roughly 40cm when folded and goes into all of the bags I use for work.

Jimmy Johnson

Be aware it has a bit of heft.

Be aware it has a bit of heft. I mean, you do notice you are carrying it. That is my only reservation because otherwise it is an excellent umbrella. My daughter has far more use for hers in Washington than I have out in the southwest and she loves it. I have bought her a second one now. Somebody took the first one and she was terribly upset. In tears.

Michaela Ford

So handy in the rain!

So handy in the rain! I can get into the car and press the button to fold the canopy without wrestling with it.Then I push the stem down myself. Fits in my purse without weighing me down and the blue brings back memories of my old school lunchbox. Enough cover for two of us when we're close on those quick dashes, AND Florida gives us plenty. I'm buying a couple for friends as gifts.

I was waiting for actual rain before deciding how much I liked it.

I couldn't wait to try this when it arrived, so I took it straight out onto the driveway and pressed the button. The black canopy looks neat and suits me. I opened it a few times just to see how everything worked. The button brings the canopy in as well as opening it, and then you push the telescoping part together yourself. Once I had done that it was quite straightforward. I was waiting for actual rain before deciding how much I liked it. We've finally had some, and after a couple of outings I'm very happy with it. There is enough room for me and my purse tucked beside me, and I can hold a shopping bag under it too. Going from the grocery cart to the car was a much nicer experience than trying to hurry with nothing over my head. It isn't going to cover a whole cart, but that's not what I need to carry around. I got rid of an old black umbrella a few months ago and had been missing having one handy. This folds down smaller than that big old one, which is a big part of why I like it. I can put it away rather than leaving a long umbrella propped somewhere and forgetting it. I'm glad I have this ready now instead of waiting until I'm already caught in rain. Happy with the colour, happy with the coverage, and I would recommend it. Five stars from me!

Monique Chaney

I was so happy with my first gray umbrella!

I was so happy with my first gray umbrella! It gave me three years of use before I left it across the country last fall. Tried a couple of different umbrellas afterward and none felt quite right, so I've gone back to this one in gray. Expecting the same dependable shelter on wet days. And people are already telling me how nice it looks!

Norma Adams

Such a lovely umbrella!

Such a lovely umbrella! Standing underneath it on a sunny day feels noticeably more comfortable, almost like finding a little patch of shade to take along. It isn't quite as light as my usual folding umbrella, and pressing the shaft down after closing the canopy takes a firmer push than I'm used to. Neither thing puts me off though, because the shade is just so good. For me that little extra effort is easily worth it, and I'd happily recommend it.

Becky Murphy

The handle has a different look to the usual ones too.

For my friend's birthday I sent her this umbrella, she lives in New York and has already had use for it. She tells me it's great and loves being able to open it automatically..The handle has a different look to the usual ones too. I'm planning to get myself one when I'm back in the country. Seems a really nice choice if you want a useful gift that's not completely ordinary.

Daryl Curry

The amount of cover for the weight is excellent.

The amount of cover for the weight is excellent. Pink isn't a shade I'd usually carry, to be honest. I can picture it on a golf course more easily than on my normal walk, and some men probably wouldn't choose it. Still, that's a question of taste rather than quality. As an umbrella I think it's very good, and the colour has grown on me.

Pam Rios

Could just take an umbrella for shade.

For the price I am quite impressed with this. An umbrella isn't complicated, some fabric and a frame, but you can still tell when someone has put it together properly. The ribs have a little give to them rather than feeling like stiff sticks. I keep thinking of uses for it other than just keeping the rain off. Berry picking, for example. I spend ages reaching for the higher berries and I do not always want the sun beating on me while I do that. Could just take an umbrella for shade. Such a simple idea and somehow I had not thought of it!I poured a glass of water over this one to see what happened and it rolled off nicely. Also held it outside with a breeze going and it was comfortable enough to keep hold of. Not saying my little tests are anything special, I just wanted to try it. Almost feel silly getting so excited about an umbrella, but there you go. Seems a very useful thing for the money.

Sabrina Huerta

Love having a button to pop it open and collapse the canopy!

Love having a button to pop it open and collapse the canopy! Then I press the pole down myself. Such a handy size ♡ Much easier to manage getting in and out of the car than my old bulky umbrella. That one was always a nuisance to pack away ♡ I can use this for shade too, but haven't had a proper rainy day to test it yet. Put some waterproofing spray on because I worry, so rain can come now ♀(゚Д゚щ)

I have to be careful in the sun so something i can leave in a handbag or the glove box is useful. i had looked at a flatter folding one thinking it would take less space but this feels much more substantial. the sleeve is enough for putting it away i don't think i need anything fancier just to keep it from rubbing against things in the bag. it makes a proper patch of shade and i don't have the sun shining straight through at me. open it is a comfortable size for just me and when folded it is manageable though not tiny. i have used it in light rain too and it was fine but can't say yet what years of use will do. for the money this seems a good everyday weather umbrella to keep handy.

Brianna Hawkins

Hopefully that helps somebody deciding.

only just arrived, tried the action several times and it all works smoothly. had a good look at where the fabric joins the frame and it seems firmly fitted. material has a decent thickness to it, feels worth paying a little extra over the really cheap umbrellas. I didn't want the cheapest available but wasn't looking to spend a fortune, this seems a sensible middle ground. The button is NOT so sensitive that I'm worried about catching it accidentally. You press to gather the canopy, then push the shaft down, perfectly straightforward. Some comments had made me hesitate, so I checked those things first. Hopefully that helps somebody deciding.

Marcia Griffin

A pleasant surprise.

I nearly let some of the reviews put me off, but I'm glad I tried it. Three proper rainy outings so far and it's done well. My son is two and a half and loves sheltering under it with me. The black looks smart, and there's enough canopy to keep him nicely covered. A pleasant surprise.

Chelsey Watson

Now she's asking for another one to keep just for rainy days!

These worked nicely for the jellyfish costumes we made for a group of seven year old girls. The umbrellas felt well put together and stood up to being part of the costumes. My daughter was quite attached to hers by the end and didn't want to take it apart. Now she's asking for another one to keep just for rainy days!

Katrina Lynch

There are a couple of things I'd change about this.

There are a couple of things I'd change about this. The folded bundle is chunkier than I expected, and I don't find the sleeve particularly easy to slip on. In actual rain, though, the darn thing is really good, and it's stayed steady through the gusts I've encountered. I can put up with a slightly awkward fit in my bag for an umbrella that keeps me properly dry.

Mariah Bartlett

Feels sooo sturdy.

Better than I pictured. Feels sooo sturdy. Everyone is getting to hear about how much I like it for shade. It makes my beach chair a much nicer place to sit in the sun. A breeze still means a bit of work for the person hanging onto it, of course, but the umbrella is doing its job just fine!

Charles Neal

Umbrella received.

Umbrella received. Looks like the photo and is very pretty. My grumble was with getting it here, not with the item. It turned up after the party I wanted it for, which was disappointing. I did get helpful replies while trying to find out where the parcel was, so at least I wasn't left wondering on my own. The delivery hassle aside, I'm delighted with the umbrella and glad to have it.

Nancy Livingston

Honestly, I think I've finally got an umbrella I enjoy using.

Honestly, I think I've finally got an umbrella I enjoy using. Has stood up nicely when it's windy and feels properly made, not heavy like I thought it might be. I prefer a decent size canopy and this is about 105cm across, plenty for me. Best bit is the button opening it and folding the canopy back in, so easy! Would definitely recommend this one++++++

Kyle Thompson

This one stays in my purse, while a bigger umbrella lives in the car.

After heat exhaustion while working along the southern border, and more trouble after a transfer to Florida, I have become very cautious about being out in the sun. Even a short walk to a shop can be unpleasant for me. Having shade over my head makes those walks from the car to a grocery store or mall much more comfortable. It doesn't mean I can ignore the heat, but I do appreciate not being in direct sunlight the whole way. Friends have asked to borrow it for outdoor events and for trips to the park with their children or grandchildren. I can understand why once they've tried carrying their own patch of shade. This one stays in my purse, while a bigger umbrella lives in the car. It folds down to a manageable size and doesn't make taking it along a big decision. Very useful for me, and something I'd happily recommend to family and buy again!

Joanne Yoder

I'm rather wary of this umbrella.

I'm rather wary of this umbrella. It's lovely to look at, but some of the materials feel a bit light to me. I opened it to have a proper look and wasn't immediately convinced by the feel of it. It opens and stays up as it should, and I have used it in rain. Still, I keep handling it carefully because I'm not completely confident about its sturdiness.

Caitlin Castaneda

Wasn't expecting anything special from a folding umbrella.

Wasn't expecting anything special from a folding umbrella. Looked a little too light to put much faith in, and I wasn't convinced by it at first. Two months later, its won me over. Can't say the same for my football team (another subject entirely!) but this has coped with the wet and blustery days I've used it on. Still a little fuss to pack neatly, yet working fine.

Jeffery Coffey

Small enough to fold away and comes with a sleeve.

Small enough to fold away and comes with a sleeve. Opened out, it gives me enough coverage on my own. Pressing the button extends the shaft and spreads the canopy, provided it has been reset after the last use. Another press collapses the canopy, but you still have to push the shaft down yourself. That is how the closing works, not completely automatic from start to finish. The shaft feels solid and the ribs have some flexibility rather than feeling rigid and brittle. There are quite a few of them, which makes the inside look busy. The oval loop handle sits comfortably in my hand. The plain canopy and unusual handle give it a neat look, rather than anything fussy or decorative.I think it is a useful umbrella and worth what I paid.

Preston Dixon

A little m'f'in rain sword!

At 6'6" I don't want an umbrella that feels like a toy, and this gives me decent cover. A little m'f'in rain sword! It's had plenty of use in NYC this spring and still feels solid.DEC 2011: going well, looks nearly fresh from the sleeve. :)MAY 2013: still in regular use, grip feels good and no squeaking or rusty bits. People expect me to carry something enormous, but i like being able to fold this one down.

Jonathon Schultz

My son, who's two and a half, loves it.

I expected to be sending this back after reading some reviews, but I'm actually impressed. It's been through three decent rainfalls and done its job. My son, who's two and a half, loves it. I hold it for him, and the canopy gives him good shelter while he enjoys being under it. Really cute.

Tabitha Holmes

Only had this about 2 weeks, it was meant for a pin-up shoot and some wedding photos. The cream white is so pretty, a bit softer looking in person which I prefer. Then my dog found it and had a lovely time chewing it up before I could use it for either shoot :'( So yes I'll be buying another, just wish the price hadn't gone up since the first one :( apparently it made a great dog toy for a few minutes anyway

Jared Marshall

I push the shaft back in by hand afterwards.

Finally, a button that brings the canopy DOWN as well as putting it up! I'm usually carrying too much, and after knee surgery I also need a cane. Being able to fold the top with one hand is a big help. I push the shaft back in by hand afterwards. The green is attractive, there's good room beneath it, and the ribs and mechanism feel substantial. Money well spent!

Sheena Cole

Anyway I'm delighted with this 5 STAR umbrella!

Mine has made it through so many morning commutes. Feels better put together than any umbrella I've bought in a shop.I can't see needing a replacement for ages, but if I do (20 years from now) it'll be another Haven. Why don't more manufacturers put this much care into their umbrellas?Anyway I'm delighted with this 5 STAR umbrella!

Nicole Powers

More practice may sort that out.

I can't escape the afternoon showers around here, especially in summer. This gives me useful cover when I'm getting the two kids out to the car, though it isn't wide enough for all three of us to spread out underneath. The automatic action is handy, but I don't always find the button quickly when I'm rushing. More practice may sort that out. We keep one in each car and another by the garage door. The beige is attractive, and it is manageable to carry.

Herbert Winters

she was pleased with it.

A female relative of mine is quite particular about how things look, so an ordinary practical gift needed a little thought. Rain is unavoidable, of course, but the cream white makes this umbrella feel a bit more dressed up. she was pleased with it. it has that nice balance of being useful and still looking like something you picked especially for the person. and, for the price, I thought it made a very welcome gift.

Philip Mcbride

Blue is the colour she likes best so that part was easy.

Ordered this for my granddaughter, she's 6 and staying with us for some of the summer. Rain was looking likely for our days out so thought she should have her own umbrella. Blue is the colour she likes best so that part was easy. She can press the button herself and i help push it back down, she's very happy with it

Gregory Carlson

The black looked quite neat and it did what she needed it to do.

I picked this up for a friend to use during her wedding ceremony, mainly to have some shade. The black looked quite neat and it did what she needed it to do. The oval loop handle caught me by surprise, I hadn't really noticed that in the pictures. I didn't see it used in wet weather, but trying the button it seemed straightforward enough. It feels properly made without looking particularly fancy, which was fine for what we wanted. Nothing over the top, just a useful umbrella that I was glad to have chosen.

Kyle Long

Excellent umbrella for my walk to work!

Excellent umbrella for my walk to work! There's enough coverage for me and my messenger bag when I hold it over that shoulder, which was the main thing I wanted. The loop handle feels comfortable, even on the longer stretches, and I haven't had that cramped gripping feeling I get with skinny handles. When the rain stops I can fold it away rather than carrying a full length umbrella the rest of the way.**Note: It still opens fairly wide, so I do watch where I pop it up on a busy pavement. Nobody wants an umbrella in the face!

Justin Silva

No rain test yet because we're buried in snow at the moment.

Wasn't sure what to expect from just seeing it online, but this turned out great! Quick opening and the fabric feels substantial. No rain test yet because we're buried in snow at the moment. My daughter loves it already. Turned up quickly over the holidays too. Nothing to complain about.

Kathryn Bolton

Green was my pick, a cheerful change on a miserable rainy day!

Green was my pick, a cheerful change on a miserable rainy day! Fits in the door compartment in my car where it's handy without being in the way. I appreciate the button opening and canopy closing, though you do still have to compress the stem yourself. Wish that last part took a little less pushing, but it's not a big issue.

Destiny Williams

This one is a winner too.

This one is a winner too. My daughter already has hers and I meant to hang on to this pink one myself. Somehow my sister ended up persuading me otherwise, and yes it was absolutely pouring when she took it home. Feels really nicely made and looks adorable!! Looks like I'll need to order myself another!

Alexandra Rowe

I picked this one because it wouldn't take over my backpack.

Getting soaked a while ago finally convinced me to keep an umbrella with me.I picked this one because it wouldn't take over my backpack. Had another downpour recently and was glad it was in there, it kept the rain off nicely. There's a sensible amount of cover for something that packs away this small. Obviously it isn't going to shelter you like one of those enormous golf umbrellas.

Carl Mahoney

A bigger size would be nice also.

You know, here in Iraq I have wanted an Umbrella like this for a long time. Finally I have one. My daily walk is only 6 minutes, but the Sun is very strong on you. This gives me shade and makes that walk easier. I love using it. A bigger size would be nice also.

Michelle Macias

So closing it then wanting it open straight away takes another step.

The size is nice and I like being able to open and close it by button. When other people are fiddling with theirs, I just press and the canopy folds. What I don't like is after that I have to push the shaft back down to the handle before I can use the button to open it again. So closing it then wanting it open straight away takes another step. It's a bit of inconvenience, but over all I think it's worth recommending.

Gwendolyn Logan

An umbrella needs to cope with some wind to be useful to me.

If a journey can be done on foot, that's usually how I do it. My normal working day includes several miles of walking between home and work, and there is business travel as well. An umbrella needs to cope with some wind to be useful to me. This has managed the everyday wet weather nicely. I haven't tested it in anything particularly fierce, so I can't offer an opinion on that yet. That performance matters, obviously, but the weight is what has really pleased me. Some umbrellas I've depended on have been reassuringly substantial, and rather less reassuring after carrying them for miles. Add shopping and the various other things that somehow end up in my hands, and an umbrella's weight becomes quite noticeable. This one feels almost like a little toy beside those heavier ones, although it has been doing a proper umbrella's job. I don't feel as though I'm carrying a great lump around just in case the forecast proves right. No hesitation about finding room for it in a suitcase, either. It won't make much difference to what my luggage weighs. It is worth remembering that this is a compact umbrella, roughly 105cm across when open. That suits packing, and taking along when rain is possible rather than certain. For a lengthy walk in a real downpour I would probably choose something larger, simply for the extra coverage. I may still look into a bigger umbrella for those occasions. For my regular use, though, this seems reasonably priced and very handy. My remaining wish is for a more cheerful appearance. The Beige is quite respectable, but subdued isn't really what I want on an already grey day. A brighter-looking design cheers me up, and when I'm walking around the city I also like the thought of being easier for drivers to notice in murky weather. A lively pattern would be nice. Any chance of that, Haven?

Nathan Hester

For something so handy to carry, I'm pleased with it.

Looked just as I expected from the picture. The pink is cute and it folds up neatly. I like using the same button to open it and bring the canopy closed, then pushing the stem in to put it away. I'm careful about very strong gusts with any umbrella, but in ordinary rain this has been great. For something so handy to carry, I'm pleased with it.
