My daughter has had hers since she was nearly seven and it's stayed in surprisingly good shape with regular use. People still say how nice it looks. I'm not certain she'll be as keen on carrying it in front of friends when she's older, but for now it's been a sweet little umbrella and one we've been glad to keep around.

Nearly a year with this umbrella and it has been a good one.
Nearly a year with this umbrella and it has been a good one. The green is noticeable without looking loud, quite smart really. Enough coverage when up and still goes in my bag afterwards. The button opens it and gathers the canopy when closing, then the stem needs a manual press down. Recently I left mine out to dry and it disappeared (why did I do that?). I will be replacing it with the same one.

A detail worth mentioning.
The frame is the part I noticed first: 30 flexible ribs give the canopy a well supported feel.It is not the cheapest compact umbrella, but the mechanism is smooth and I am pleased with what I paid for. How the joints wear over time will be the real test. The space underneath suits one person, rather than two.One minor nuisance is arranging the material neatly before putting it into the sleeve; it takes a little care to get a tidy bundle. A detail worth mentioning. Automatic closing refers to the canopy, not the entire shaft disappearing into the handle. You press the shaft down yourself afterwards. The closed oval loop is different from a hook, but easy to carry. Overall the design makes sense to me, and I would rather pay for a frame that feels properly supported than just a compact shape.

-Wind has been the main test for me.
The walk to school is what made me start paying attention to umbrellas. There are some fairly exposed stretches, and rain is usually accompanied by enough wind that just having something over your head isn't the whole answer. I had been using inexpensive folding ones and spending far too much of the walk trying to keep them pointed the right way. Seeing discarded umbrellas along the pavement on wet days didn't give me much confidence in buying more of the same. I spent a while comparing compact umbrellas with the bigger, less convenient ones. There was a limit to what I wanted to spend, but I also wanted something I wouldn't immediately wish I had spent more on. The Haven seemed a reasonable balance, so that was what I went with.
I've now carried it for about three months, including several unpleasant walks to school, which seems a more useful basis for a review than just opening it in the house.
-Size is good for what it is. This is still a compact umbrella, not a huge canopy for a group of people. The stated open width is roughly 105cm; I haven't taken a tape measure to it, but that sounds about right from standing underneath it. There is enough coverage for me to walk normally rather than keeping my arms squeezed against my sides. When the rain comes at an angle, positioning it matters, and my lower legs can still get wet. I don't think any handheld umbrella this size is going to solve that. Folded, it is a sensible size for carrying to school. It isn't the tiniest umbrella I've handled, but I prefer the usable space when it is open to saving a little more room when it is closed.
-Wind has been the main test for me. So far it has stayed the right way round on the blustery wet walks I've used it for. You can feel the canopy taking the pressure, so it isn't as though the wind somehow disappears. I still turn it towards the rain and adjust my grip rather than expecting it to look after itself. What I like is that it feels controlled while I'm doing that. There is some give in the ribs, which seems preferable to everything feeling completely rigid. I can't make a claim about the worst weather it could survive, and I'm not particularly interested in deliberately finding out. For the weather I actually have to walk through, it has done what I was hoping for. That's the important distinction for me.
-The construction feels substantial without making it awkward to use one-handed. There are 30 flexible ribs, and looking up from underneath, the canopy seems evenly supported rather than having a few areas doing all the work. The fabric sits neatly when open. I have looked around the edges and the attachment points after using it, mainly because those were things I was suspicious about before buying, and haven't found anything coming loose. The closed oval handle took a little getting used to visually, but I like having a definite loop to grip. It doesn't feel like I need to keep readjusting my hand all the time. Opening is automatic with the button, which is much more convenient when I already have things to carry. There is a definite action to it rather than a hesitant halfway opening. Another button press brings the canopy closed; the telescoping section then needs compressing manually to get it fully packed away. Those are two separate parts of closing it, and once I'd done it a couple of times the routine was straightforward. Getting the folded fabric tidy enough for the sleeve takes a moment, but I would rather spend that moment than force it in carelessly. Overall the moving parts feel secure, and nothing has started feeling noticeably looser over these three months.
I went with Cream White. It is a pale colour for something that gets carried around in bad weather, so I was slightly concerned that I would regret that choice almost immediately. So far I haven't. I let it dry open before putting it away, and it still looks tidy. The folds are visible, naturally, but that doesn't bother me. I wanted an umbrella to use, not something that would stay looking untouched in a cupboard.
There isn't one spectacular thing about it that makes me like it. It is more that the coverage, handling and folding size have worked together well in everyday use. I'm no longer thinking about replacing my umbrella halfway through a wet walk. For the job I bought it to do, I'm very satisfied.

It is a plain umbrella but a nice looking one.
I bought these while the price was reduced and nearly talked myself out of it after reading some of the comments. We are in Washington where there always seems to be rain, so umbrellas in our house get used rather than sitting in a cupboard. Quite a few we have had haven't lasted very long. These have already been out in wet, windy weather and so far I have nothing to complain about. The beige looks nicer in front of you than it does in the photo. It is a plain umbrella but a nice looking one. I wouldn't want to say it is miles ahead of every ordinary umbrella we have owned, because I really don't know that yet. To me it feels at least as good and possibly a bit more substantial. Paying more hasn't always meant ours lasted longer either, so I am not convinced price tells you very much. We have two, one each for the kids, and they will be getting regular use. If one gives up I will come back and say how long we actually got out of it. At the moment they have been used around ten times, with no change in how they look or how the button works. With a three year old and a four year old carrying them that seems a pretty good start to me. Update, two years on. Both beige umbrellas are still here and the girls still choose them. Living in Seattle means there is no shortage of chances to use them, and people have commented on how nice they look. My children aren't particularly careful with their things, which is why the unhappy comments surprised me. They are five and six now and take these along to school each day in case the weather turns. The older one has carried hers for two school years running and it is still doing its job.

Rain hasn't been its main job for me so far & that's fine.
Got this in April and waited until I'd used it before saying much. It's been hot lately and having some shade overhead makes a real difference compared with standing in the sun. Rain hasn't been its main job for me so far & that's fine. Easy enough to take along, and I reach for it more than I expected - I'm glad to have it.
Isabel Ortiz
In reality, a solid umbrella.
At this price I half expected to feel glamorous carrying it...instant leading character, maybe? In reality, a solid umbrella. A little weighty, that's my reservation. Handy in the usual damp climate...less of an urgent purchase if you live somewhere dry--unless you're after shade. Practical, not a grand transformation.
Stacey Rose
Who knew an umbrella could be so exciting to a child!
I brought this as a spare for when one of our umbrella's goes missing and am very happy with it! My son is fascinated by the loop handle and carries it round the house like a toy. Who knew an umbrella could be so exciting to a child! I'd buy another to give as a gift without hesitation!

Feels like I've earned the nice looking umbrella!
This is such a cute umbrella and just right for who I bought it for. My husband and I can both get under it (we're not small people!)What took off a star was opening the box to check it . . . the plastic bits had this layer of dirt on them! Really dusty, almost stuck on, and I wondered if it was something left there to protect them, but still. Since it's meant as a present I'd have hated for it to be unwrapped that way. Luckily I rubbed the plastic down with a dry t-shirt and it all came off without a fuss. Now that I've done the cleaning I'm half tempted to hang onto it myself. Feels like I've earned the nice looking umbrella! It is lovely though, and there's plenty of room!

Having some shade I can take with me has made a huge difference!
I have a sun allergy (yes, really), so even popping outside involves more thought than it should. Having some shade I can take with me has made a huge difference! I still use my usual precautions, but I don't feel quite so hemmed in by them now. Going to the mailbox or taking the rubbish out used to mean covering practically every inch of myself. Then if I was going somewhere nice, all that covering up left me trying to rescue my hair and makeup afterwards. This umbrella makes those little trips much more comfortable without all that fuss! It gets opened and put away several times on most days, and so far it is coping with that really well. I never thought I would get so excited about an umbrella, but having some portable shade feels like a bit of freedom back. It has made the everyday things easier and that means a lot to me!

Well worth buying!
My wife is forever misplacing umbrellas, and the ones she keeps never seem to last. I chose this because it packs into her bag without being uselessly small once opened. We've shared it by standing close together and stayed dry. It's had a few months of use now, including some quite wet and breezy days, and it still looks as good as when she got it. Well worth buying!
Jean Griffin
It was a successful choice all round!
Two of these went under the Christmas tree for our granddaughters and they were delighted! They paraded around with them open before we'd even finished the presents. Then it poured the following day, which they thought was wonderful because they could try them outside. We liked how much cover they had, and the girls liked their cream white umbrellas. It was a successful choice all round!

I appreciate the frame has some give to it, not just stiff.
Bought mine in Chicago ten summers back, have used it each raining season in New York. The handle sits nicely in my hand and it feels strong when the wind comes. I appreciate the frame has some give to it, not just stiff. Small enough when folded to carry in my bag, which is important for me. I would happily buy more so each family member could have one too.
Vickie Kennedy
Gives me good coverage without being awkward once folded.
No strong wind test yet, so that's the one thing I can't comment on.The button is excellent when I'm rushing, popping the umbrella up or drawing the canopy together with one hand. You still push the telescoping section down yourself before packing it away. Gives me good coverage without being awkward once folded. Nothing to complain about so far, just remember I haven't tried it in really windy weather!

I've finally got an umbrella I enjoy carrying.
I've finally got an umbrella I enjoy carrying. This one looks nice and feels well made. My husband had assorted ugly umbrellas around the house and I never wanted to take them, even when I needed one. This is different, I actually remember to bring it.**Update** After several months it is still going strong. It's been the umbrella I use whenever it rains, not one that only comes out occasionally. It lives in the car most of the time, which with two children means it gets shifted between seats, dropped on the floor and shoved in the trunk. It isn't spotless anymore, obviously, but there is nothing wrong with the way it works. The button still operates smoothly and the canopy is in good shape. If anything I am more pleased with it now than when I first wrote this.
Daisy Oliver
Full size when open - folds down to something sensible for carrying.
Full size when open - folds down to something sensible for carrying. The button is straightforward to use, and after the canopy shuts you press the pole in by hand. The ribs feel flexible rather than brittle. I've owned similar umbrellas before and this one seems a very practical replacement.

Later note ...
We let our 9 year old daughter pick an umbrella as a reward for reaching an important goal. She wanted something useful for the occasional rain here, but nice enough to enjoy in between. She has been thrilled and has worked it into quite a few dress-up outfits. A month in, it had already seen plenty of handling and still looked good.Later note ... We are past six months now and it is still being used and enjoyed, now with all three girls wanting a turn.

I absolutely LOVE this umbrella!
I absolutely LOVE this umbrella! My first one was stolen and I was keen to have another! I've tried lots of umbrella's and this is the one I keep wanting to use! It has done a great job through wet, blustery days without becoming a wrestling match! AND it folds small enough to carry without the hassle of a huge umbrella! SO pleased! :)
Vickie Miles
It comes with me all the time now!
The shade from this umbrella makes a surprising difference when the sun is really strong. I'm very pale and used to dread heading out on bright days, but carrying this makes it much more comfortable. It comes with me all the time now! A useful thing for sunny weather as well as rainy days.
Caitlyn Jones
there is something lovely about taking an ordinary useful object…
there is something lovely about taking an ordinary useful object and making it feel a little more considered. the beige is softer and prettier in person than i expected from the photo. on a dull wet day, that quiet colour is a pleasure to carry, and the canopy still takes care of the practical business of keeping me dry. a small everyday indulgence, with enough usefulness to keep the sensible part of me happy too.
Amanda Stark
It also gives me a nice patch of shade when the sun is out.
Have to say, this has done very well on breezy days. I use an umbrella quite often and this one hasn't been a struggle to hold when the wind picks up a bit. It also gives me a nice patch of shade when the sun is out. The size suits me and one button press has it ready to use.

Another umbrella purchase for me, this time a gift for my best…
Another umbrella purchase for me, this time a gift for my best friend in New Orleans. She was absolutely delighted when she saw it, and says it has become something she keeps by her for the daily trips out during their rainy season. It is lovely to give a present that is both pleasing to look at and genuinely useful. We are both very happy with this choice and I am glad I sent it

Nice to have one that looks good and actually stands up to use.
I like the look of this umbrella a lot, and people do notice it when I'm out. It's nicely finished without being too fussy. It has also been sturdy in wet, blustery weather. I've felt it flex in a gust, but afterwards everything was sitting straight and working normally. I've owned pretty umbrellas that gave up far too easily. Nice to have one that looks good and actually stands up to use.
Marc Berry
The button works smoothly and nothing about it feels cheap.
Makes me feel as though I ought to be strolling through London! Feels sturdy and actually covers my back as well (can't stand getting wet down one side!). I've only taken it out a couple of times, so can't say much about lasting wear yet. The button works smoothly and nothing about it feels cheap. Went for gray and it looks rather nice in my hand with the clouds gathering.
Shawn Mcneil
What a cheerful umbrella!!
What a cheerful umbrella!! It folds down neatly enough to take to school, then opens out to give me proper cover rather than that tiny strip of shelter some folding umbrellas offer. I'm a teacher, so on wet afternoons I have it with me for bus duty. A child can tuck in beside me for a moment, though it isn't one of those enormous golf umbrellas. The blue is lovely and the children notice it too. I'd been looking for something practical that I also enjoyed carrying, and this has worked out beautifully. It makes rainy afternoons a little less gloomy.
Gabrielle Mora
The black version has been well worth what I paid!
The black version has been well worth what I paid! Surprised how much cover I get from something that folds down so neatly. It has handled the wind I've used it in and seemed to dry off faster than my old umbrellas too. Feels like money well spent. Would def suggest it to anyone wanting a decent compact umbrella!
Ruben Morales
I'm pleased with this umbrella on the whole.
I'm pleased with this umbrella on the whole. It packs down into a reasonably small bundle. One push of the button sends the shaft out and opens the canopy, and another push brings the canopy back together. You then push the shaft back in yourself to finish putting it away. Nothing particularly complicated about using it, and having it open and shut so quickly is helpful when you're stepping into a car or through a doorway. The sleeve is useful for storing it, or covering the wet fabric before setting it somewhere you'd rather keep dry.I've stopped at four stars because I do think there's something that could be better. The canopy doesn't feel as sturdy as I would prefer. Rain itself hasn't been an issue, including when it comes down quite hard, but with wind about I start wishing it felt more substantial. It hasn't actually turned inside out on me. Still, I catch myself trying to shelter it from gusts rather than feeling confident just holding it normally. So as an umbrella for rain alone, I'm very satisfied with it. For rain accompanied by wind, I'd probably prefer a more solid one, even if that meant giving up some of the convenience of this compact size.
Joan Montgomery
It is more compact than I like, really.
It is more compact than I like, really. Maybe that makes it handy to carry but I wanted extra space underneath. Also, I realised I was holding it too low. I wanted something BIGGER! I tried carrying it a little higher and that gave me the room I needed. It has been comfortable since. Kind of surprised actually.
Kellie Schultz
This gray umbrella fits th' bill!
Growing up in AZ, sunshine was hardly a novelty. These days I'm in the NW, but my folks are still down there and I wanted something nice to shade me when visiting. This gray umbrella fits th' bill! Not a burden to carry, nicely put together, and that simple colour suits me...A little portable patch of shade. Rather grand!
Wesley Mcintyre
I've taken a liking to this umbrella.
I've taken a liking to this umbrella. Neat looking, useful and the price felt fair. It slips into the pouch behind my driver's seat, then opens wide enough to cover me properly. The button makes getting it open easy, and another press folds the canopy; the shaft still needs pushing back by hand. The sleeve is my only gripe. You have to fold everything very neatly before it will go back in, and even then it's a TIGHT fit. Nearly cost it a star, although the umbrella itself has been good enough that I left the rating alone.Overall, a handy choice if you want one waiting in the car or at work.

A small canopy and a short handle seemed to be enough.
Here in Atlanta you don't have to live in the hottest place on earth to get tired of the sun. Some days it just sits on you. I remember visiting Thailand about ten years back, in November, and being amazed at how hot it still was. In the nineties most days. What stuck with me was seeing people use umbrellas for shade as a perfectly ordinary thing.
They weren't all dragging enormous umbrellas around either. A small canopy and a short handle seemed to be enough. I came home thinking, why am I not doing that ? So for years now, if I'm going to spend much time outside, an umbrella goes along.
I've mostly carried the big golf type before this one. They make shade, but carrying one everywhere gets old. This is much more manageable folded up, and it gives me the shade I'm looking for without feeling like I'm hauling something to the golf course. Press the button and it's ready.
Yesterday I walked over to a neighborhood gathering at the pool with it. Several ladies wanted to know about it, the price and where I'd found it. Funny how something so simple gets people interested.
And yes, I'm a man. A few men have had something to say about my umbrella over the years. My answer is basically that my manhood isn't endangered by being comfortable. Usually that's the end of that discussion.
Anyway, I'm glad I have this. Taking some shade with you makes those relentless sunny days a lot easier to enjoy. Try it rather than standing there baking just because that's what everyone expects.
Caleb James
I help with it rather than treating it as a toy.
My four year old wanted their own umbrella and is very happy with this one. It has been fine for the usual rain here, although I wouldn't pick a compact umbrella for really rough weather. I help with it rather than treating it as a toy. The button makes opening straightforward and the blue is a nice colour. For our everyday use it does the job very nicely!
Shirley House
Opening it is smooth and takes no effort.
The quality is right up there with umbrellas I've paid a lot more for (even the sale prices). Opening it is smooth and takes no effort. The handle is more practical than fancy, which is about what I expected for the money (nothing wrong with that). This is a folding umbrella, though, not something to lean your weight on as a walking stick!
Sergio Acevedo
Good umbrella though, feels nicely made and not flimsy.
Ahhh! New umbrella! For some reason I fancy sweets when I use it,no idea why.Good umbrella though, feels nicely made and not flimsy.I've only been out with it a few times, but had smiles from people and a couple of compliments. They ALWAYS want to know where I found it,which makes me laugh LOL.If I EVER get to a town devoted to chocolate...this umbrella is definitely coming with me!
Alejandro Bright
It arrived today and I haven't been out in the rain with it yet.
It arrived today and I haven't been out in the rain with it yet. Still, the finish and the way it works impressed me enough to write something now.To my eye this is a very smart looking umbrella. The green is attractive, everything feels carefully assembled, and the included sleeve is handy when it is folded. The opening action is rather satisfying. One press on the handle and it springs out fully. Pressing again draws the canopy closed; you then compress the telescoping stem manually to finish putting it away. That part feels straightforward too.I'll come back if using it in wet weather changes my opinion, but at the moment the construction and the general attention to detail are what stand out. I wanted to mention those even before a proper rainy outing.Added later: I have now taken it out three times, and the button action has been consistent each time.
Susan Anderson
I'm delighted with my new umbrella!
I'm delighted with my new umbrella! Automatic closing was new to me, and I can see why people like it. Getting into the car is much easier when one press draws the canopy together, instead of standing outside wrestling with it. I then compress the stem by hand to put it away. Open, it gives me more coverage than my previous umbrella, which was exactly what I wanted. It feels sturdier too. I've already had a few people ask where I found it. Nice to have something practical that also looks good, rather than another dull umbrella from the usual shop selection.
Eugene Norton
More solid than the little folding umbrellas I've had before.
More solid than the little folding umbrellas I've had before. The button is handy and it packs down enough to keep with me around rainy Pittsburgh. Does what I need, basically a roof I can take along. Not worth saving a few dollars if I just end up replacing another flimsy umbrella. This seems a better way to spend the money. Everyone in the family has one now.

This umbrella has earned its place by the door.
This umbrella has earned its place by the door. The sleeve keeps it all tidy, so I find myself taking it along even when the clouds are only threatening. A little silly maybe, but I'd rather have it with me. Walked a few blocks to get food this week in the rain and my jacket stayed dry both ways. Nice not having to think about it once it was open. Definitely something I want to keep handy!
Collin Hunt
This feels solid and isn't a fuss to use.
I've wanted something that wouldn't give up every time the wind picked up. My previous umbrellas turned inside out and ended up rusty. This feels solid and isn't a fuss to use. It's already seen me through several really heavy rains and I've been glad of it. The improvement would be me remembering whether I left it at home or in the car. Somehow it's always sitting in the other place when rain starts. Thinking I'll get another so I don't keep needing it wherever it isn't. LOL
Beverly Gross
It's kept me dry and has felt dependable so far.
I'm on my second one in a year, only because I left the first behind on a very wet trip. Between living in Jersey City and working in Manhattan, mine gets plenty of outings in rain and blustery weather. It's kept me dry and has felt dependable so far. Two little gripes:The loop isn't quite roomy enough for the grip I like. The folded umbrella takes up more space than some of my other folding ones. Still happy using it, just worth bearing those things in mind.
Arthur Nicholson
Pressing the button opens it smoothly
First umbrella I've had from Haven and I'm impressed with the feel of it. The frame seems substantial and I'm hoping it gives me a good few years. Pressing the button opens it smoothly; another press collapses the canopy, then the telescoping stem needs pressing down manually. That final bit takes some effort if you're rushing in out of the rain, so worth knowing. Folded up it is about 40cm long, and getting the fabric wrapped neatly for the sleeve takes me a moment. It isn't one of those tiny umbrellas you forget is in your bag. Good coverage for me on my own, though, and I'd recommend it for the build and overall design!
Barry Cameron
VERY small folded, feels solid.
VERY small folded, feels solid. Have only used it four times, but the button for closing the canopy is great with full hands or when getting into the car. Brought it to Des Moines on business. I travel light and don't generally pack an umbrella, but storms were expected and it fit upright beside my laptop - INSIDE the laptop compartment - so there went my excuse for leaving it behind. A good fit for most medium purses/bags, and it feels reassuring to hold.
Luke Haas
Packs down neatly, feels solid, and the button is handy.
My last folding umbrella vanished somewhere, and this one has been a good replacement. Packs down neatly, feels solid, and the button is handy. I'm a little baffled by the fuss about pushing it back together afterwards. Yes, you have to press the shaft down yourself, but it's hardly a session at the gym!
Nathaniel George
A substantial feeling umbrella with a very smooth opening action.
A substantial feeling umbrella with a very smooth opening action. The flexible ribs seem sturdy and the fabric looks well finished. Bulkier folded than I had in mind, so not for my smallest bag, but seems well suited to wet New York days. A quick shake sheds most drops.
Lori Solis
I gave the umbrella to my neice for her 2nd birthday.
I gave the umbrella to my neice for her 2nd birthday. She was delighted and started walking about the house wanting it opened (the button does that part, so I helped her rather than having her push anything herself). It's a generous size over a little one, not a tiny toy umbrella that just about covers her head. I'll be the one holding it when we use it together but she was so happy with her present. Love it, and so does she!
Alexa Nelson
Handy umbrella and worked well out on the golf course.
Delivery took about a week. Handy umbrella and worked well out on the golf course. I had it with me last week on a really hot summer day, mainly to give me some shade, and it made standing around much more comfortable. It is a handheld size rather than one of the huge golf umbrellas, but covers me well. The blue is a nice strong colour. Feels solid when opened and packs away neatly afterwards. Would recommend it at this price.

For people who travel as much as we do, a folding umbrella like this is very handy. A bit dear and not the lightest thing, However, it packs away neatly and feels strong enough to justify carrying it. It has coped with the wind we have met on our holidays without any bother. I'd choose this again for the combination of a manageable folded size and a reassuringly solid frame.
Thomas Herman
I'm so happy with this umbrella!
I'm so happy with this umbrella! It arrived earlier than I expected. I had seen people saying the fabric was thin, and I did worry about that before ordering. Of course I checked the canopy as soon as I took it out. I don't think it feels too thin. I think it feels normal for an umbrella and looks quite well made. I think it should last me well. Now I'm waiting for a rainy day because I really want to try it out! If I enjoy using it outside as much as I enjoy looking at it now, I will probably order another colour. So far it has made a very good first impression.

I'm enjoying this umbrella, although another few inches of coverage would suit me better. It feels reassuringly steady when a breeze catches it instead of tugging all over the place. My other niggle is the handle size, I'd prefer a little more room for my hand.
Benjamin Pruitt
Nice coverage too, and it folds away neatly.
The box my umbrella came in looked pretty rough and had tape all round it. I was a little worried taking it out, but the umbrella inside was fine. Once I opened it up, and checked it over, everything felt solid and worked properly. Nice coverage too, and it folds away neatly. Turned out to be exactly what I needed!
