It's not something I'd call indestructible.

Chicago weather has seen off enough of my umbrellas that I wanted something sturdier. I liked the first of these until I managed to leave it on the train, so I bought another. This one still works well for everyday rain, although I don't feel quite as confident holding it in gusts. It's not something I'd call indestructible. I also find it bulkier when folded than I'd really like. On balance I'm keeping it, and it seems a better bet than the flimsy ones I've gone through before.

Solid umbrella with a nice light feel when carrying it.

Solid umbrella with a nice light feel when carrying it. The frame seems strong and it has handled the breezier rain I've used it in without flipping over. There's enough cover to keep my shoulders dry without feeling like I'm taking up the entire sidewalk. The gray is nice and plain, which I like. Pressing the button to get it open is so convenient!! A very satisfying purchase.

All this constant rain made me get two -- green was my second pick.

Sturdy umbrella and looks smart - after a few uses people have wanted to know where I found it. Love the button opening and how easily the canopy closes, though pushing the shaft down for packing takes effort. All this constant rain made me get two -- green was my second pick. They got here quickly too.

After doing it a few times I knew what to expect.

Rain started while I was shopping and I hadn't brought an umbrella, so that was what finally made me choose this one. I'd been considering a compact umbrella for a couple of months and had spent some time reading people's comments about them. This seemed a sensible choice rather than walking out into the rain with nothing. The oval loop handle gives me a secure hold without having to squeeze it particularly hard. There were a few gusts on that first outing and the canopy held its shape instead of turning over. It kept me dry, and I felt comfortable holding it even when the rain picked up a little. Having a button to open it and bring the canopy closed is probably my favourite part. The one step that requires some effort is putting it away completely. Pressing the button gathers the canopy, but you still need to compress the telescoping shaft yourself. That needs a firmer push than I expected at first; It isn't the button failing to finish closing it, just how the umbrella resets. After doing it a few times I knew what to expect. The mechanism feels substantial, though obviously I can't say anything about years of use yet. It is heavier in the hand than some small umbrellas I've handled, particularly around the handle end. For me that's a reasonable tradeoff for something that feels solid rather than flimsy. I wouldn't describe it as featherweight, even though it folds to a convenient size. Overall I'm pleased I chose it, and pleased with the price I found it at too. (I'm not connected with the company or the shop, I just tend to spend too long looking at things when I'm shopping)

Quick to open at a press, and another press folds the canopy back.

Quick to open at a press, and another press folds the canopy back. There's a generous amount of shelter for one person, much better than the tiny travel umbrella I had. Putting it away neatly is a bit of a fiddle, though that's the trade-off for having more fabric. The frame has a solid feel and has coped well with the breezy, wet days I've used it on.

Came home dry and rather pleased with it.

First outing with it today and it won me over. When I opened it I wasn't convinced it would be that sturdy, so I was a little cautious! Out in the wind it felt much steadier than I'd expected. No feeling that I had to wrestle with it to stop it turning inside out. Came home dry and rather pleased with it.

What a GOOD choice she made!

I am not the easiest person to buy for and usually have an opinion about everything. My daughter gave me this Cream White umbrella, so it was special before I even tried it. What a GOOD choice she made! At first it only came out occasionally. Then I had nearly two weeks of business in Europe, with rain practically every day, and it went everywhere with me. The sleeve is useful for putting it away, and I appreciate having that oval handle to carry it by rather than gripping a little straight end. I could take it along with my purse without feeling loaded down, which matters when you are in and out all day. Once opened, it covers much more than you would expect looking at it folded. Several colleagues shared the shelter with me and commented on it too. That was probably the best test of how useful it was! Most of the time carrying it was not something I thought about. It fits in my larger purse without taking over the space I need for everything else. The button is especially welcome when rain starts and you have other things in your hands. An unfortunate encounter with an electric baseboard heater has taught me not to leave a special umbrella just anywhere :( . This one gets a safer spot. I would certainly buy another, and am already considering a few for the colleagues who admired mine.

Makes me feel ready for one of those London downpours!

Makes me feel ready for one of those London downpours! Its a lovely umbrella, and keeps my back dry too (nothing worse than getting home with wet shoulders under a tiny umbrella!). Only two outings so far, so I can't say much about lasting, but the button and frame feel substantial. I went with black and it looks smart when I'm carrying it. Slightly bulky folded, but I can live with that.

So glad I picked this umbrella!

So glad I picked this umbrella! The folded length fits right in the lower compartment of my backpack (meant for shoes, I think?). Once it's up, there's room for me and the bags I carry without feeling squeezed. Even a bit of slanting rain hasn't been a problem. I'd recommend it without hesitation. What more do I need from an umbrella?

For now I am really pleased with this one.

It's only early May and already warm enough to make me uncomfortable, since I have a hard time with heat. I went back and forth between this and something more decorative, but a folding umbrella that would go in my bigger purse made more sense. I've mainly used it in sunshine and a little breeze, and standing in its shade makes a noticeable difference to me. I can't say what it would be like in really windy weather because I haven't tried that. I may still want something larger just for using around the house, when I don't have to worry about carrying it anywhere. For now I am really pleased with this one.I'd probably pick a brighter colour than black another time, just because I like pretty things and this is fairly plain. The black isn't as severe looking as I expected, though, and it certainly isn't a reason to be unhappy with it. It provides the shade I wanted and I'm much more comfortable outside.

Cassidy Keith

I'm still a little cautious about using it in wind.

It packs down neatly. First of all, it has 30 ribs. They look quite flexible. The canopy is smaller than on a full length umbrella. I'm still a little cautious about using it in wind. I suppose there's a trade off for having something compact enough to carry around.

Claire Mcneil

I ended up purchasing two of these in Pink.

I ended up purchasing two of these in Pink. My original intention had been to find something with the traditional full-length umbrella shape, but the more I thought about what I would actually carry, the less sense that made. An umbrella can look very reassuring sitting by the door and still be no use if you have left it there. I also decided I was putting too much importance on how it might perform in a really bad storm. At that point I would be looking for somewhere indoors, not standing about testing an umbrella. This seemed a sensible compromise. On first opening the package, I liked the overall appearance. The pink is a change from the rather plain umbrellas I usually choose, without making the whole thing look fussy. The black underneath gives it a more subdued appearance from below. I paid particular attention to the handle, since the closed oval loop is quite different from a conventional hooked handle. It looks a little unusual, but I don't find it unattractive. The opening button is handy, and the canopy gives me enough coverage for normal rain. There are two small reservations behind my four-star rating. First, compact does not mean particularly tiny. It folds to a reasonable length, but I would not choose it expecting something that disappears into a small bag. Mine are intended for the trunk of the car, so that isn't a major problem. The supplied sleeve is useful for keeping each one contained among the other things in there. Second, the automatic closing is only for the canopy. You still have to compress the telescoping section yourself before putting it away. That works as intended, but I would prefer one less step when dealing with a wet umbrella. Overall, I would make the same purchase again. It has the practical shape I needed without looking purely utilitarian, and I would be comfortable giving one as a gift. For an ordinary rainy day, it does what I wanted.

no umbrella solves that particular nuisance.

Walking around New York means this gets plenty of use. (Driving through Manhattan would drive me mad.) From the subway to a museum to a book shop, a decent umbrella is not optional! The black canopy gives me good cover, and when I go inside I can fold it down instead of dealing with a long wet umbrella. I still keep an eye on other people's umbrellas in a crowd; no umbrella solves that particular nuisance.Be sensible about putting it away for the day. I leave it open to air until the fabric is dry, then use the sleeve. Packing anything wet away is asking for a damp surprise later. If you want a GOOD everyday umbrella rather than something enormous, I can happily recommend this one.

Lindsay Bailey

Had it a little over a month.

Had it a little over a month. Nothing to complain about. Opens properly. Feels well assembled. It has dealt with a gust while I was out without any fuss. I would happily get another. Seems a noticeable step up from the bargain umbrellas I've picked up at the supermarket.

As it happened we had a lovely dry day, so it stayed folded.

This was ordered for my daughter's wedding, just in case the weather didn't cooperate. The black matched the bridesmaids' dresses and they were really hoping to have their photos outdoors. As it happened we had a lovely dry day, so it stayed folded. I'm still glad I had it there rather than worrying about rain. It won't go to waste, there's bound to be a use for it later.Mother of the bride

Best umbrella I've owned in a long while.

Best umbrella I've owned in a long while. There is a good amount of cover and it has felt reassuringly steady when the wind picks up. A slightly softer handle would make holding it for longer more comfortable, but that's a small niggle. The canopy fabric seems good quality and most of the water comes away with a shake.......I leave it open to finish drying before packing it away. Very happy to recommend this one

Our granddaughter loved her Christmas umbrella.

Our granddaughter loved her Christmas umbrella. Her brother had other ideas and used it for sword games, so we'd promised another. She says the blue one is wonderful and is very pleased with it. We gave one to a little girl in the neighborhood too, and she loves hers as well.

The cream white one came with me on tropical travels last year.

The cream white one came with me on tropical travels last year. Useful for shade in Nicaragua, then just as useful when it rained in Honolulu. I left it open overnight to dry before folding the fabric neatly again. Fits in my tote with the rest of my things. Just right for one person!

Meghan Mcdowell

This has made a very good impression.

After getting fed up with flimsy little umbrellas, I wanted one that felt worth keeping. This has made a very good impression. Even folded, it feels like a substantial piece of kit rather than something I have to handle gingerly. The loop handle sits comfortably in my hand and gives me a secure grip. The button sends it open quickly, then another press brings the canopy in. You still shorten the shaft yourself afterwards, which is straightforward once you know that's how it works. Nothing complicated about it. I've been pleased with how steady it feels in breezy rain, although I still keep a good grip when the wind catches it. An umbrella is always going to catch some air. Folded up, it slips into my briefcase and doesn't take over the whole bag. It would be easy enough to take along in hand luggage too. I wanted a sensible everyday umbrella that I'd be happy to carry rather than replace on a whim. Exactly the kind of umbrella I wanted!

CONTENTS: Umbrella and carrying sleeve.

Rain stays off nicely and it gives a useful patch of shade on sunny days. I thought it would be a fairly ordinary umbrella, but there are some handy details here. The button opens it automatically and a second press closes the canopy. The telescoping shaft still needs pushing back down by hand, so the button doesn't do that part for you. Once folded it is easy to put away in the car without taking up the whole backseat. The fabric seems thin but gives good cover overhead. A carry sleeve is included for putting it away between uses. The handle is a closed oval loop rather than the usual hook. It is a slightly unusual shape, but doesn't stop it being comfortable to hold. The green canopy is plain, with a black underside. Some people might prefer a different handle shape, but I quite like this one. CONTENTS: Umbrella and carrying sleeve. FEATURES: Automatic opening, button canopy closing, loop handle. I received a sample for the purpose of writing a review.

I've always liked umbrellas that fold down like this.

I've always liked umbrellas that fold down like this. Had a similar one about 25 years back and have been looking for something to replace it. This one gives me enough room to keep rain off my hair and glasses without being awkward to carry afterwards. The cream white makes it feel a little more cheerful too.

I had to chase up the delivery after it didn't turn up when expected and there was some confusion about where it had got to so that was a bit frustrating. It has arrived now but I have not had a rainy day to try it yet. Looking at it the frame seems stronger than my old umbrella and it opens without any trouble so I am hopeful it will be a good one.

Brianna Wolf

i've had no trouble using it at all.

i have a few umbrellas and this folding one has been a lovely addition. i always look at them when i see a display, even when i don't need another one. this one gives me good cover in the rain and looks nice without being fussy. people have said how smart it is, which is always pleasing. i've had no trouble using it at all. i still like a long stick umbrella too, but a folding one is easier to bring along. i'm glad i added this one to my collection!

Sheri Brewer

the umbrella looks lovely and he was so proud carrying it.

He loves it and want to take it everywhere, rain or not. Apparently it was popular at preschool too because another child took it home, and we're still waiting on those parents to bring it back. the umbrella looks lovely and he was so proud carrying it. He liked the opening button, with me helping to pack it away afterwards. Might be ordering another if it doesn't find its way home soon, as he keeps asking where his umbrella is.

Renee Hoover

A solid useful umbrella, and I am glad I went for this one.

For the rainy weather here in New Hampshire this has been a good purchase... Used it several times now, including a wet and windy day, and it handled things well... Enough room under it to stay dry without carrying something enormous... It looks quite smart too and the oval handle is comfortable to hold... I can take it to the office or along to a game without it seeming out of place. Nothing fancy to figure out, just press to open... A solid useful umbrella, and I am glad I went for this one.

Kaitlin Baxter

Not too heavy to carry, either.

Folded up, this is around 40cm long and fits in my messenger bag without much bother. Not too heavy to carry, either. Opened out, the height and coverage suit everyday rain nicely. It feels thoughtfully made -- I'm pleased with it.A note on using it: one press of the handle button opens it, and another pulls the canopy closed. The shaft doesn't shorten itself; you push the telescoping sections together by hand until they latch. That's the final step before putting it away, not something the button does.

Regina Weeks

Fits along the side of my bag without too much fuss.

Fits along the side of my bag without too much fuss. Once open it's a proper everyday size, not the tiny canopy I was expecting at this price. The fabric feels substantial and gives comfortable shade in the sun as well. A useful umbrella to have around, and I would happily get another.

Cynthia Newton

My four-year-old daughter was delighted with her cream white umbrella.

My four-year-old daughter was delighted with her cream white umbrella. She wants to carry it herself! The button makes opening it easy for her, and I help push the shaft down when we're finished. There is enough cover to keep her dry on our rainy walks. Such a pretty colour, she actually looks forward to taking it out!

Melanie Wolfe

The oval loop at the bottom is handy for carrying it, too.

The button sends the canopy up and a second press pulls the canopy closed. You then shorten the pole yourself, which is fairly easy, though it takes a firmer push than I expected. I like how the sleeve keeps the folded fabric together rather than leaving it loose in my bag. The oval loop at the bottom is handy for carrying it, too. Overall a useful umbrella, just not completely hands-off to pack away.

Oscar Medina

What a pretty umbrella!

Came well wrapped. Didn't take long to arrive. What a pretty umbrella! So simple to get going!! Of course I opened it indoors first... hopefully that doesn't count as bad luck :) Just had to try it! Pressing the button again draws the canopy shut, then I press the shaft down myself. Haven't owned one that did that before. Usually I dread wet days, but now I'm rather looking forward to taking this out. It might actually give me something to smile about in the rain!

Abigail Guerrero

Pleased with it.

Yep. Really useful. Caught a gust the first time out and I thought that was going to be it, but the frame flexed and was fine once it eased. I need decent cover for work without dragging a long golf-sized umbrella everywhere. This folds small enough to be practical, and is much less bother to carry around. Pleased with it.

Catherine Hoover

We're putting it away for other family occasions now.

After seeing an umbrella come in handy at a wedding earlier in the year, we decided to have one ready for my future daughter-in-law. Fortunately the weather stayed fine, so it was only insurance. Ours looked quite understated and wouldn't have distracted from the day. The canopy is a useful size and the loop handle feels substantial, not cheap or flimsy. We're putting it away for other family occasions now. It's reassuring to have proper rain cover ready, even if you're hoping never to need it.

Rhonda Sparks

Good coverage, although folded it's longer than I'd prefer.

The button is handy when I'm getting on the morning train with a coffee in my other hand. One press brings the canopy in so I'm not wrestling with a wet umbrella at the door. Good coverage, although folded it's longer than I'd prefer. Luckily my everyday purse is large... The cream white is so pretty!

Nicole Stephenson

The closed oval handle feels secure in my hand.

I've had mine for over two years now and it is still going strong. Everything works, the button opening is smooth and the canopy closes neatly with another press. The closed oval handle feels secure in my hand. Nicely made, and it looks smart too. It gives decent cover without being one of those enormous umbrellas that's awkward to lug about. Two people can fit if they stay close, or there's comfortable room when I'm on my own. It folds away for carrying but doesn't have that flimsy feel I associate with some folding umbrellas. Makes rainy days a little less miserable.

Phillip Chung

It keeps me dry and hasn't turned itself inside out at the first gust.

The neat exterior appeals to me, and all those ribs make a rather vaulted shape inside. It keeps me dry and hasn't turned itself inside out at the first gust. I do wish the price were a little lower. I used to have a ridiculous number of umbrellas (more than ten!), then lent too many out to friends. This one is nice enough that I shall be rather more careful about getting it back.

Roger Monroe

The gray is a little darker than I imagined, but still looks lovely.

I bought this to give away, though now I'm tempted to have one too. The oval handle is a nicer detail in person than I could tell from the pictures. The gray is a little darker than I imagined, but still looks lovely. I can't say much about how it'll wear because it's a gift, but we tested the button opening and canopy closing when she unwrapped it and both worked smoothly.

Aaron Hardy

The compact rain umbrella is easy to carry and looks neatly finished.

The compact rain umbrella is easy to carry and looks neatly finished. There is a sleeve to keep it together in a backpack, which I find useful. Opening is automatic, and the same button brings the canopy down; the shaft then pushes back by hand. I let it dry before putting it away rather than packing it wet with everything else. Overall I am very satisfied with it and would recommend it to others.

Taking this round the golf course gives me shade wherever I stop.

Taking this round the golf course gives me shade wherever I stop. I feel less worn out than when I'm in direct sun for the whole walk. Another golfer let me stand under his beside the walking cart and I could feel the difference. That was enough to convince me. Thanks for the tip!One grateful golfing dad

I also like the closed oval handle

I read a lot of reviews before settling on this umbrella, because I wanted something I could take to work without it looking out of place. Beige was the colour I had in mind. I wanted a fairly simple look, but it also had to feel substantial enough to be worth buying. On those points this has worked out very well. It looks smart with my work clothes, and I don't feel I'm carrying some enormous thing around when the weather clears. More importantly, the canopy covers me properly for the walk between my car and the office. I've stayed dry on those walks and it hasn't been awkward to hold when the rain blows about a bit. The automatic opening is handy when I'm already carrying things. I also like the closed oval handle; it gives me a secure grip, rather than feeling like it's going to slide out of my hand. That's useful when I'm juggling my bag as well. A very practical purchase that I'm comfortable recommending.

Ebony Pena

The sleeve is a sensible fit too.

I thought the construction might feel a touch more substantial, but it is still a step up from the usual umbrellas I find in shops. It has coped with breezy rain quite well so far, without all the flapping I am used to. The button action is handy for opening and closing the canopy, though you still compress the telescoping stem yourself afterwards. That is just how it packs away, not fully automatic folding. The sleeve is a sensible fit too.

Martin Lindsey

Needed to replace an umbrella that gave up on my walk to work.

Needed to replace an umbrella that gave up on my walk to work. My route runs along the waterfront, so when it rains there's usually a breeze coming straight at me as well. I've had umbrellas twist and turn inside out along there before. So far this one has kept its shape and kept me covered without all that wrestling. Much better for my commute!

Cassidy Holland

The button closes the canopy, then I slide the shaft down by hand.

I went into this purchase thinking automatic meant the whole thing would tuck itself away, so at first I wasn't sure I had understood it right. I asked about it and got a patient explanation instead of being made to feel silly. The button closes the canopy, then I slide the shaft down by hand. Once I understood that it all made sense.(And I stopped thinking about exchanging it because I actually really like the umbrella! The wind around here can make carrying one a nuisance and this has held its shape well on my walks. ) It's one of those purchases I'm glad I stuck with, useful in the rain and small enough to take along instead of leaving it at home. Between that and the help with my confusion, a very happy customer here! :)

Well, the less enthusiastic reviews nearly put me off, but so far…

Well, the less enthusiastic reviews nearly put me off, but so far this has been a good umbrella for me. I'm keeping it at four stars because I've only had it a month and want to see how it lasts. It's been out a few times, including some breezy days, with no trouble. The grip is easy to keep hold of, and it packs away when I don't need it.

Kaitlyn Gomez

Plenty of cover while I'm standing around, which makes a difference.

Arrived today and I've already ordered another for my husband's car (which gives me a spare to borrow when mine goes missing). Make sure there's room before pressing the button because it opens FAST and quite wide. That's exactly what I need for evenings outside taking tickets, answering questions and pointing people in the right direction, whatever the weather decides to do. Plenty of cover while I'm standing around, which makes a difference. Never expected to be quite this delighted with an umbrella, but it seems excellent value.

Gabriella Norton

It arrived carefully protected, with everything looking good.

The umbrella looks attractive and seems very well put together. There are 30 ribs supporting the fabric, and it feels steady in a breeze while still having some give. No water has come through when I have used it in rain, and it is useful for shade too. It arrived carefully protected, with everything looking good. I am satisfied with it.

Cole Perez

Before taking it anywhere I put a label on the handle.

Opened out, the canopy is roughly 105cm across, enough to shelter me and the bag I generally have over my shoulder. Before taking it anywhere I put a label on the handle. Three umbrellas have disappeared on me in two years, and not one has made the journey home. Perhaps their new owners are at least getting some use out of them. The pink is cheerful, and the fabric feels more substantial than what I had before. A pretty umbrella is rather nicer to take out on a miserable day. I was a little nervous of the automatic action at first, but it is straightforward. The button opens the canopy and also draws it closed, after which I push the telescoping section down myself. I still make sure there is room before pressing anything. Inside a car or a crowded lift would not be my chosen place to experiment! For the price, I consider it a very satisfactory purchase, and looking nice is an extra in its favour.A sleeve came with it too, which went straight in the bin. Once I have taken an umbrella out of one of those little covers, getting it back in always seems beyond me. Why spend my time arguing with a sleeve?

Lauren Stokes

A good everyday umbrella, including when I'm out on the golf course.

A good everyday umbrella, including when I'm out on the golf course. I'm tall, so I appreciate having decent coverage without carrying something enormous around. The handle is a big part of why I like it. You don't notice a comfortable grip much until you've had an umbrella that's horrible to hold.. This one sits nicely in my hand. The green is a color I enjoy too. Easy enough to carry, nicely made, and the one I reach for first now.

Bryan Herrera

Not having to keep replacing it makes a difference.

For a long time I bought the cheapest umbrellas, then found myself needing another within weeks. I've used this one for years in heavy rain and windy conditions and it's held up well. Not having to keep replacing it makes a difference. It's compact enough to carry around without much bother, and there's space for two adults if we stand close. The button makes both opening and closing the canopy simple too. More money than I used to pay for an umbrella, but after getting so much use from it I think it was money well spent.

Cody Tate

Good choice for the theatre production I used them in.

Good choice for the theatre production I used them in. The umbrellas look neatly finished, with an even canopy shape and a plain black underside. The ribs have some flexibility but the frame doesn't feel flimsy. The button on the handle is simple to reach and the opening action is quick, so make sure there's space before pressing it. It also closes the canopy; the telescoping section then needs pushing in manually for storage. That was straightforward once I knew what to expect. The oval handle gives you a firm hold and the supplied sleeve is useful for packing away.I haven't used them in wet weather, so this is about their use on stage. They looked terrific.

Ivan Daugherty

I would recommend it to anyone looking for a useful everyday umbrella.

I like an umbrella with enough room to cover what I'm carrying as well as myself, and this one works very well for that. The green is attractive and it has felt steady in wet, breezy weather. It folds down into a manageable size afterwards too. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a useful everyday umbrella.
