The number of ribs also gives the open umbrella a lovely rounded look.

Umbrellas are something I actually enjoy owning (living in San Francisco helps with that.) This one has a neat, dressed-up look without being fussy. I tend to notice handles more than most people, and the closed oval loop is a nice change from a plain straight grip. It gives me somewhere to hold it when it's folded, rather than clutching the wet canopy. The number of ribs also gives the open umbrella a lovely rounded look. Smart enough for work, and I wouldn't feel silly taking it along for an evening out either. Only a couple of outings so far, so I can't say anything about years of use, but the whole thing feels carefully put together. A useful umbrella that also has a bit of character.

Quality feels good.

People have commented on how smart this looks when I'm carrying it. Quite substantial, not fussy. Quality feels good. I've taken it through several wet and windy days here in New England and it's held up nicely. There are a lot of ribs underneath, which makes it feel well supported. A little heavier than some folding umbrellas, but I'd rather that than something flimsy. Overall I'm impressed with it.

The automatic opening works nicely.

My prize for watering a tree turned out to be this umbrella. Quite satisfied with it!)) It feels much better made than my old one, with strong ribs and plenty of cover, about 105 cm across when open. The automatic opening works nicely. It also comes with a sleeve, handy for putting it aside after use. More interested in having something solid over my head, and this seems very good. I can recommend it!

It fits in my daily bag without being much of a burden.

I've owned plenty of umbrellas over the years and this one is useful for the everyday sort of rain. I wouldn't choose a folding umbrella for a long stay outdoors in a serious downpour, but that's not what I needed. Mine is for the short walk between home and the subway and it does that very well. It fits in my daily bag without being much of a burden. Enough cover for those trips, and convenient to have along even when the forecast is uncertain.

Kari Wilkerson

It keeps the rain off really well.

"I was excited to open this because it looked just like I hoped. This is my favorite umbrella now. It keeps the rain off really well. I like pressing the button and seeing it go up! My brother has trouble putting his umbrella away, but mine folds the top down with the button!"--My daughter, age 8.It's compact when folded, but the open umbrella is not a tiny children's size. I help her press the pole together afterwards; the button closes the canopy, not the whole pole. The size suits her with some help, and I could comfortably use it myself. I would judge by the actual size rather than expecting something made just for little children.

Simple and works beautifully!!!

Our aluminum fishing boat has no shade, so these umbrellas have been a very useful addition for days on the lake. We just hold them over us while we wait for a bite. They don't feel heavy in the hand and the shade makes sitting there much nicer! As soon as a fish bites, we collapse the canopy and set the umbrella down, leaving our hands free for the catch and sorting out the bait. Then we push the shaft back in, open it again and we're shaded while waiting for the next one. Simple and works beautifully!!!

The thing I notice with this one is the frame.

We've wasted money on plenty of umbrellas, cheap ones and pricier ones too. The thing I notice with this one is the frame. There are 30 flexible ribs, so it feels supported rather than having a few stiff struts doing all the work. I wouldn't deliberately squash it to test that, but it has some give without feeling flimsy. The button action is decisive and the canopy has a useful spread. It also folds down to something manageable. For me, paying for an umbrella that feels properly put together makes more sense than continually replacing flimsy ones.

A very worthwhile purchase for me.

Living in Phoenix with very fair skin, I was getting fed up with even the short walk to the light rail. I work downtown & enjoy that trip in winter, but once the heat starts it is another story. I can be sweating before I've even reached the station (seriously, it isn't a long walk!). Spending this much on an umbrella felt a bit silly at first, especially when I wanted it for sun rather than rain. Now I'm glad I did. Standing under it feels noticeably more comfortable than having the sun beating straight down on me & the whole thing feels strong, not flimsy. It's only been a couple of weeks & it's already something I don't want to leave home without. A very worthwhile purchase for me.

Philip Tran

It also looks quite smart, which is a nice bonus.

Replacing my old umbrella turned out to be a lucky decision, because I like this one much more. It has a reassuring feel without being one of those enormous umbrellas that becomes a piece of luggage in its own right. I took it out on a wet, blustery evening and was impressed by how steadily it held its shape. The flexible frame seems to give a little rather than feeling completely rigid. I can't put a number on the wind, and wouldn't try to make it a weather experiment, but for my regular walks it has been very good. Open, the canopy is roughly 105cm across, enough to give me decent cover while out with the dog. Folded, it's about 40cm, so much easier to bring along than something full length. At around 390g it has some substance, but I don't find it a burden. It also looks quite smart, which is a nice bonus. The automatic opening is convenient, and the price seems reasonable for something I will actually use. No grand claims from me, just a very satisfied walker.

Arrived neatly packed and everything looked in good order.

Arrived neatly packed and everything looked in good order. I bought it for my husband to leave in his car, since we like to have an umbrella in each vehicle. More than I usually spend on one, but it looks smart and matches the photos. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a decent car umbrella.

Such a handy little umbrella!

Such a handy little umbrella! I spent ages comparing pricier ones before choosing this, and I'm glad I didn't spend more. Most of its use is at my kid's baseball games, where I want some shade for my very fair skin. My husband took a turn holding it and straightaway noticed how much nicer it felt out of the direct sun. Looks cute as well, which is a bonus. Money well spent!

Jeffery Shah

I'm so glad I found it.

I kept looking in stores for an umbrella to use in pictures of my 5 month old son. Checked EVERYWHERE! This one finally looked right, and I couldn't argue with the price. It looks lovely as a photo prop but feels nicely made too, not just something for one picture. I'm so glad I found it.

Emma Woodard

It looks nicer in person than I could tell from the photos.

I picked this up as a present and now I'm tempted to have one too. The beige is a little warmer than I pictured it on screen, but it is still really pretty. It looks nicer in person than I could tell from the photos. Since it was a gift I can't say how it will last, although we did try the button when she unwrapped it and the canopy opened and closed nicely.

Yvette Kline

This umbrella does that nicely.

Most sunscreens don't agree with my face, so I was looking for something to give me shade rather than another lotion to try. This umbrella does that nicely. I can shade my face and usually my shoulders too, depending where the sun is, though of course it doesn't cover every bit of me. The green is a pleasing change from a plain dark umbrella, and the black underneath looks tidy without being distracting. It folds down, but I still wouldn't call it small enough for my usual purse; I carry it separately. The closed oval handle gives me a secure place to hold it, and I can hang it up when I'm not using it. I would miss that if it only had a straight grip. It is attractive enough that I keep an eye on where I leave it.I do still need a hat for working around the flower beds, since holding an umbrella and doing anything messy with both hands is not a very workable combination. For walking about, though, this has been just what I wanted.

Brittany Skinner

such a pretty umbrella.

LOVE it. my daughter is absolutely delighted with hers. carries it round indoors, outside, dressing up, the lot. such a pretty umbrella. i'd fancied one like it myself so was glad this was her Christmas choice. feels solid too. she's six and so far it's survived her treatment better than the umbrellas she's had before.

Stacy Walters

Several spring showers later, I think it was a good choice.

My old compact umbrella had reached the point where I wanted a replacement with decent coverage, without giving up the space in my backpack. I compared a few options before picking this green one. Several spring showers later, I think it was a good choice. Folded, it's around 40cm long, so it's a bit shorter than my previous umbrella, although there is still a fair amount of bulk. Think small drinks bottle rather than something you'd slip into a pocket. Opened out, there's enough canopy to keep me comfortably covered. The fabric feels quite substantial and a quick shake gets most of the water off. The ribs have some give without feeling flimsy. It's been manageable on blustery walks, and the button has behaved exactly as I'd expect, with no surprise openings in my bag. It opens the umbrella and draws the canopy shut; you still push the telescoping section down yourself afterwards. If I could alter one thing it would be the grip. The closed oval loop is handy, but I'd prefer a little more room for my hand when holding it for a while. It's comfortable enough for the trips I've made, just not quite the shape I'd pick if I were designing it myself. That hasn't spoiled it for me, and overall it's a worthwhile step up from my old compact.

Philip Marquez

Happy to recommend it.

Very useful! Easy to operate, feels well made and folds down to a manageable size. I do plenty of walking outdoors so this is just what I was after. Slips into my bag without a fuss, and seems tough enough for being carried about all the time. Happy to recommend it.

Dustin Pennington

A good product and I'm glad I picked it.

Losing my old umbrella was annoying but this has turned out to be a very good replacement. The frame feels strong and the whole thing seems better put together than the one I had, and for the money I think it was a sensible buy. It opens without any fuss and gives me proper cover in the rain. I would reccommend it to anybody who just wants an umbrella they can use without worrying about it. A good product and I'm glad I picked it.

Melanie Gonzales

Works great for what we need.

What a handy little roof to carry around! Opens up with plenty of cover for me, and one of the kids can squeeze alongside. My wife likes it too. I dont golf, this is just for those wet days when we're out as a family. People have been asking where I found it. Works great for what we need. Might get a second one so there's always an umbrella in the car.

Want an umbrella that fits your bag?

Packing for a trip?Want an umbrella that fits your bag?Something to put in a briefcase or messenger bag rather than carrying separately? This is a handy choice! It folds down to a manageable size.As for how it holds up, mine has seen heavy showers already and I've had no trouble with it.

Kellie Fleming

This one seemed sturdy right from the first use.

I've tried 2 or 3 cheap umbrellas before this and never really liked how flimsy they felt. This one seemed sturdy right from the first use. Enough space for me and my girlfriend standing close, without being a nuisance on a crowded street. It also folds small enough to put away at my desk, which is important to me. The loop handle feels comfortable to hold and I can clip it onto my bag to free my hands. For what I paid, I think this was a very good buy.

Autumn Snow

Spending a bit more once has been worth it to me.

Boston has seen me go through far too many umbrellas this past year-big ones, little ones, cheap ones and some that weren't cheap at all. This is the one I've kept using when it's wet and windy. I hesitated at the cost, but replacing an umbrella every few weeks soon adds up...Six months with this now and it has kept its shape while I've seen others struggling with theirs on the street. Spending a bit more once has been worth it to me.

Briana Hansen

I'm pleased with how it's holding up and would happily recommend it.

Public transport means I spend a lot of time waiting outside, and this umbrella has been excellent! It feels sturdy when the wind picks up, though I still take care in really rough weather. A useful size to carry on the bus too. For anyone doing the same sort of travelling, this is a GREAT choice. I'm pleased with how it's holding up and would happily recommend it.

Marilyn Joyce

I'd certainly recommend it.

Matches the picture nicely. Wow, using the button is convenient. One press opens the umbrella and another brings the canopy in. The shaft must still be pushed down by hand, with a fair bit of pressure, so that part could be harder with weak hands. I'm 184cm tall and broadly built, but there's comfortable room underneath for me. I'd certainly recommend it.

Alyssa Hebert

(small celebration).

1) Colour was my big worry because pale shades can look different online. The cream white looks JUST like I hoped it would. (small celebration).2) I expected a battle with the sleeve after reading comments, but no. Neaten the folds first and it slips in without much fuss. The button closes the canopy, then the pole needs pressing down by hand before you put it away. It just takes an extra moment. The sleeve isn't exciting in itself, but it does its job.3) Only a couple of outings so far, plus being carried in my overstuffed tote for two days, and it's doing fine. I wouldn't treat it as indestructible though. It's an umbrella, not some enchanted shield (my fantasy reading has clearly set unreasonable standards). Also, who needs to pack one away at racing speed?? Give yourself a moment.4) Overall I'm delighted. Does what I need, looks nice, AND I didn't feel I'd spent too much. I'd happily recommend it.

Bianca Dodson

Very good quality and comfortable to use.

Very good quality and comfortable to use. The flexible ribs give a little when the wind catches the canopy, rather than feeling rigid and fragile. Mine has come through rainy, gusty use without any damage so far. A useful umbrella that feels dependable, and I am grateful to have found it!

Mckenzie Wall

The button makes it easy to get ready when rain starts!

Opens out with PLENTY of cover!!! What a handy thing!!! The look is quite simple (nothing fancy, but all I really wanted was an umbrella that does the job). The button makes it easy to get ready when rain starts! I also appreciate having a sleeve so, after drying it out, I can put it away neatly instead of leaving the fabric loose in my bag. There is a good amount of room underneath for me. A useful umbrella with a nice appearance, I would certainly recommend giving this one a try!

Kylie Fox

Good value in my opinion and I'm glad I chose it.

With the rainy season coming I needed an umbrella, so I looked at a few and this seemed a good choice for the price. It turned out nicer than I thought it would be. The packaging didn't look very substantial, but the umbrella itself was fine when I unpacked it, no damage. When I pressed it open I was quite surprised by how much space it covered. Good value in my opinion and I'm glad I chose it.

Charlene Young

love this umbrella!

love this umbrella! it's just the right size for me. a bit heavier than others i've owned, but the frame feels solid and handles windy weather well. the automatic opening is handy, just press on the button and it opens right out. this one has become my favourite.

Stacey Rosario

The oval handle gives me a good grip, too.

I didn't expect to like the button operation as much as I do. There isn't much fuss getting it up, and it isn't a burden to carry around. The oval handle gives me a good grip, too. If I'm carrying a pizza, having only one hand free is less of a production than it used to be. I still have to pay attention when the wind changes, of course. An umbrella is an umbrella! I haven't had weather bad enough to explore all its limits, but everyday use has been very good. Getting into the car is easier when I can collapse the canopy with a press, then push the shaft down once I'm settled. That took a couple of goes to feel natural. For the money I think it's a worth while purchase. Funny how a fairly ordinary looking thing can make such a difference.

Luis Cooke

For the price, it was definitely worth taking a chance on.

Folding UmbrellaI tend to stay with the kind of umbrella I've always used, but the clean design on this one caught my eye. I decided to try it and now it is my favorite. The mechanism is smooth (the button opens it AND gathers the canopy), and it seems better made than the umbrellas I've had before. For the price, it was definitely worth taking a chance on.

This has been an easy replacement to like.

After losing the umbrella I had used for years, I wanted a replacement I could be just as content with. I ended up with two of these, and both have been good purchases. The green is a nice colour and the automatic action is useful, but it is the solid feel of the frame that matters most to me. My daughters have received the folding ones as presents before and they are happy with theirs too. I get attached to a decent umbrella and don't see much reason to keep trying different ones when something works. This has been an easy replacement to like. They turned up sooner than I expected too, which was a bonus. I would certainly buy one again.

Cody Velasquez

A purchase I'm pleased to have made.

I was delighted when I unpacked this umbrella because it looked the way I'd hoped from the pictures. It seems carefully put together & works smoothly, so I think it should give me years of use. I like carrying it, and people have noticed it too, which is part of the appeal for me. I've generally had good luck buying online, and getting what I expected this time is another reason I'll keep doing it. A purchase I'm pleased to have made. 31 January 2010

A simple addition but it made the whole scene look lovely.

Our daughter had her "fairy tale" wedding, arriving for the ceremony in a horse drawn carriage with her dad. She carried the open beige umbrella over her shoulder, and it was such a pretty part of the entrance. A simple addition but it made the whole scene look lovely. I would be happy to recommend it for anyone wanting a similar touch for their wedding.

Not a big problem, just something I've noticed.

Christmas present for my husband, who wasn't exactly thrilled at the thought of an umbrella at first. Then he opened it and decided it was actually a pretty kickass present. He's had a surprising number of comments about that unusual loop handle when carrying it around! My one little wish is that the sleeve held its shape better, getting it back in takes more arranging than just dropping it into a stiff case. Not a big problem, just something I've noticed. The umbrella itself feels solid and he uses it happily, which makes me happy with the gift too.

Haley Howard

Happy to recommend it.

The reviews I read online persuaded me to get this. Here in Manhattan, NYC, the wind gets pretty strong. So far I havent run into any trouble with it. Still considering a larger umbrella for the really heavy rain, but this has been great. Happy to recommend it.

Patty Rasmussen

She hasn't had much wind to try it in yet.

For my daughter's 12th birthday I replaced an umbrella she'd been using for a few years, which was looking pretty tired. The material feels like a proper adult umbrella rather than a toy. She's pleased with it and has already carried it waiting for her bus on rainy mornings. The frame feels solid enough, though we'll see with time. She hasn't had much wind to try it in yet.But she loves how it looks, and now I'm tempted to have one too.

Mason Camacho

This has worked out very nicely!

I'm trying to walk to work more often when the weather is pleasant, but being in direct sun the whole way was putting me off. I'd carried an ordinary umbrella before and liked the shade, so I started looking for something I would actually want to bring every day. This has worked out very nicely! The difference between walking underneath it and walking with no shade at all is really noticeable to me. I'm not arriving feeling quite so hot. I also like how it looks, which does help persuade me to take it rather than leave it at home. It folds away into my larger handbag once I'm there, but opens out with enough coverage for the walk. It's made that sunny part of the journey much more comfortable. Very glad I decided to get it!

Roger Burns

The supplied sleeve is handy for putting it away.

For walking in the city, I like a folding umbrella that doesn't become another awkward thing to carry once the rain stops. This one gives useful cover without the long, pointed shape of a full-length umbrella. At crossings I hold the edge above my sightline so it won't hide the traffic. The blue looks quite smart and the frame feels substantial rather than delicate. Operation: the button opens it and closes the canopy, with the telescoping shaft pushed back in by hand. It is roughly 105cm across open and 40cm long folded, so check that against your bag rather than expecting a tiny pocket umbrella. The supplied sleeve is handy for putting it away.

Katrina Jarvis

For me, a smaller umbrella will be the next purchase.

The broad canopy has more wind drag than I want when sudden gusts come through. For me, a smaller umbrella will be the next purchase. Details for this one:Canopy width: roughly 105cmFolded length: around 40cmWeight: about 390gPress button to OPEN = telescoping shaft rises and canopy spreads outPress again to CLOSE = canopy folds in, then the shaft needs pushing back down by hand

Gavin Flowers

So that part was good from the start.

Four stars, with a little explanation. (Long review, and updates further down). My first impression was that this umbrella was a good size for shade without being a nuisance to take along. The beige is pleasant, not flashy, and it looks perfectly reasonable being used on a sunny day. Holding it overhead doesn't feel like much work, either. So that part was good from the start. After a few weeks, the thing I was less enthusiastic about was putting it away. I had taken automatic closing to mean the entire umbrella would shrink down when I pressed the button. The fabric came in properly, but the handle was still out at the end of the extended shaft. Not broken, just not what I had pictured when reading about it. When you're getting into the car, or going inside a store, that extra action is something you notice. Is it a major hardship? No. But I wanted to mention it because someone else may have the same expectation I did. I sent a question about the operation before deciding whether this was really the umbrella I wanted to keep. Apart from that reservation, the coverage and weight were very much what I was after. UPDATE: Four stars feels fair. The explanation I received cleared up my confusion! The button gathers the canopy; you then push the telescoping sections together yourself until they latch. That's the intended closing process, not something failing to finish its job. Once I understood the difference, putting it away became much less of a production. I was waiting for it to do something it wasn't designed to do. I appreciated getting a straightforward answer rather than being left to guess. Nothing needed replacing, and I'm glad I asked before giving up on an otherwise useful umbrella. I still think the last push could require a little less effort, which is why I'm not calling it a five-star purchase. However, it opens promptly, gives me a comfortable patch of shade, and isn't too heavy to hold while I'm out. The open size suits me particularly well. Enough coverage to be worthwhile, but I don't feel as though I'm carrying a giant beach umbrella around town. As far as the actual construction goes, it seems quite decent. How it holds up over time matters more to me than how impressive it looks on day one. UPDATE #2: Over a year later, my opinion hasn't changed much, which is a good thing. It continues to work as it should. I'm reasonably careful when folding it, rather than trying to shove everything together in a hurry, but I don't treat it like a fragile ornament. Once folded, it generally goes on the back seat so it's there when the sun gets uncomfortable. The small extra step at closing is now just habit. Still four stars, still useful, and yes, I'd consider another one if I needed an umbrella again.

Cody Giles

It goes out in the rain quite often and people still comment on it.

My daughter has had this since she was nearly seven and it's held up nicely. It goes out in the rain quite often and people still comment on it. As she gets nearer her teens, I'm wondering if she'll still want to use it around her friends. We've certainly been happy with it though, and it's still a sweet looking umbrella.

Amber Wilkerson

I check that it's properly reset before putting it away.

Lovely umbrella, and I particularly like using the button to put it up & bring the canopy down. A caution for older women, though: that button does NOT shorten the stem. Once the fabric is folded, you need to press the telescoping section fully down until it catches before using the automatic opening again. That last push takes some strength. I'm 60 and not particularly weak, but I have to make a deliberate effort with it. I check that it's properly reset before putting it away. If your hands are arthritic, this part could be difficult, even though the button itself is easy. Still very pleased with the umbrella, just worth knowing how the closing works.

Jacob Clements

This feels solid and opens with a really smooth action.

Of all the umbrellas I've carried, this one has made the best impression so far. Growing up in Florida means I've had plenty of opportunity to be unimpressed by an umbrella. This feels solid and opens with a really smooth action. Long term durability is something I'll have to judge later, of course. What makes it stand out for me is that it looks interesting without sacrificing usefulness. The oval handle gives it a bit of character, and the rain coverage has been excellent for everyday use.

Kenneth Wallace

Have been so happy with this one.

Have been so happy with this one. Naturally, once I replaced the umbrella the rainy season had finished off, the rain eased up, so it hasn't had loads of outings yet. When I have needed it, the coverage has been great. My hair actually stays under the canopy instead of poking out around the edges. The loop handle is comfortable for me to hold, and I think it looks lovely. It's just easier for me to manage. I'll come back to this if the weather gives me any reason to change my mind, but right now I'm delighted.

Lori Livingston

People keep eyeing my little "shelter.

People keep eyeing my little "shelter." Really glad I spent the money on it.So far its only been out in rain and and I've stayed nicely covered.Haven't had any serious wind to try it in so can't speak for that.It doesn't feel heavy considering how much it opens out.

Emily Marks

Handle is a closed oval loop rather than the usual curved hook.

Broad canopy with enough room for me and someone close beside me. The black colour is plain, so it suits someone who doesn't want their umbrella to stand out. Handle is a closed oval loop rather than the usual curved hook. It gives you something definite to hold onto. Comes with a sleeve, which keeps the folded umbrella together for storing. The button releases it into the open position without having to slide anything up underneath. Another press gathers the canopy, then you push the shaft in yourself. There are thirty flexible ribs spread around the inside, so the fabric has lots of support. Folded down it takes much less space than the open size suggests. Overall the construction looks tidy and well put together.

Regina Booker

I have not had a chance to use it in rain yet.

From looking it over, the quality seems good and what I received agrees with the description, so I am pleased with it. I have not had a chance to use it in rain yet. If it works as well as it looks, I would be willing to buy one again when I need another. It arrived promptly and I have had no reason to ask the seller anything, so I cannot comment on that part.

Daisy Watts

Really pleased with this purchase!

Walking around a city taught me to appreciate a decent umbrella. In my New York City days, rain seemed to come at you from every direction between the buildings. A flimsy umbrella is not much comfort in that situation. This one has handled my rainy walks nicely and has the reassuring feel I wanted. My main problem is still remembering to bring it home from restaurants. I put one down beside a chair and somehow forget it is mine by the time the meal is over! That is hardly the umbrella's fault, but it does make me appreciate having a good one when I remember it. The button is very handy at the car, where I can collapse the canopy without standing beside the open door wrestling with it. Such a small convenience, but one I notice every time. It is also a useful size opened up without leaving me with a long umbrella to find room for afterwards. The overall construction feels good and I am pleased with how practical it is. Now I just need to train myself to check under the restaurant table before leaving!!! Really pleased with this purchase!

Jermaine Fox

Useful shade and just the sort of umbrella I wanted.

Useful shade and just the sort of umbrella I wanted. Unlike a huge beach umbrella, this one folds up and I can carry it along without much fuss. A "survival" umbrella? Well, I wouldn't build a tent out of it, but I'd still want my little patch of shade. If I ever had to get into a lifeboat, I'd probably be asking "Can the umbrella come too?" before anything sensible occurred to me.
