It folds away neatly afterwards.

I wanted something with a decent frame, not another umbrella I would be throwing away after a windy walk. This one has a reassuring amount of support underneath and gives me good coverage without being a long stick to carry around. My partner can tuck in next to me if we need to share, although it's better for one. It folds away neatly afterwards. Looking at it I was tempted to work out some arrangement over the grill, so dinner needn't stop for rain. I'm joking, mostly. For walking about, it's exactly what I wanted.

Rainy days aren't all bad!!!!

Rainy days aren't all bad!!!! Knowing I can take my BLACK umbrella out actually cheers me up, silly as that might sound. I've had it for years now and it comes on holidays with me too. We had a stretch where it seemed to rain every single day and I was using it constantly, still going strong. Other umbrellas I've owned have ended up looking tired after being blown about, this one has handled the usual wet, blustery weather well. NOT READY to replace it at all. I even have another tucked away unused because I don't want to be without one if this ever wears out. Such a small thing to get excited about but I really do love it.

So far this has been just right.

Taking the bus regularly means I need an umbrella that fits my briefcase and doesn't give up at the first breeze. So far this has been just right. I've carried it through several wet journeys now, including one with rain blowing sideways, and it coped very well. It folds away without making my bag awkward to carry. A useful bit of kit for anyone commuting in wet weather.

I needed to replace the umbrella I lost during a river trip.

I needed to replace the umbrella I lost during a river trip. (It rained for most of a day on that trip, and we think a gust carried the old one into the water.) I chose beige this time because I wanted something lighter looking and easy to spot among my things. It gives a gloomy day a slightly nicer feel too. This one seems sturdier than the ordinary umbrellas I've had, and I'm happy with how it feels in use. It isn't feather light, which is the trade off, but I'd rather have something substantial than the flimsy ones I've used before.

I'm very happy with how it's lasted.

I walk a fair bit everyday and this has been in and out of my backpack constantly for seven months. So far it's holding up just as well as when I first started using it. Folded away it doesn't take up much room, but there's a good amount of cover when it's open, which is a combination I've struggled to find before. The button still works easily, the material hasn't pulled away from any of the ribs, it packs down neatly and I can get it into the sleeve without wrestling with it. Nothing has started coming loose despite all the use, basically I'm not having to put up with the little annoyances that usually develop in an umbrella after a while. On dry days I barely think about it being in the bag, and on wet ones I'm glad it's there. I'm very happy with how it's lasted. Hopefully I won't manage to lose this one, but if I do I would get the same again. Definitely worth recommending to anyone who walks a lot.

Clifford Church

Yes I recommend it.

Some of the fuss around umbrellas is a little much, but this one has been very good in actual rain. It feels solid and I haven't had trouble keeping covered when it gets breezy. Yes I recommend it. That doesn't mean I'd stay outdoors in a serious storm to prove something. I'd be heading for the house or car at that point. The dramatic demonstrations people use to sell umbrellas always make me laugh a bit. A carefully set up test isn't the same thing as weather. isn't a regular rainy walk what most of us actually need it for?

Angie Garza

There's a sleeve for it as well.

Rain is slightly less annoying with something you actually like carrying, eh?I mostly went for the look, then had a moment of wondering whether I'd be pushing the whole thing up by hand. The button was the bit I wanted to be sure about. I couldn't work out if it just released a catch or actually opened the canopy. It does the opening for you, happily, and that has pretty much settled which umbrella I reach for now. The end isn't something I'd go tapping along the pavement with. Probably an unnecessary observation, but I do tend to fidget with umbrellas rather than just hold them like a normal person. For actual umbrella duties it has the design I liked and the easy opening I was hoping for, so I'm pleased. There's a sleeve for it as well. Whether I will remember to use that every time is another question; it does keep it neatly contained in my bag. The handle is a closed oval loop, not the open hook I was picturing at first. A bit different to hold but comfortable enough. I'm one of those people who starts treating a folded umbrella like a sword, which is probably not a recommended activity. So yes, tempting as that is, I'm trying to just carry this one. Much better at keeping me dry than at being fencing equipment, I suspect.

The mechanism works smoothly, without much fuss.

I've been using this umbrella for a month, and it has become the one I reach for each morning. It is compact enough to carry daily without looking as though I'm setting off on an expedition. The oval handle is the part that makes it look a little different. More importantly, it gives me somewhere comfortable to hold on, rather than having my fingers crowded onto a tiny knob. It isn't a long walking-stick handle, but that would rather defeat the point of a folding umbrella. The fabric and frame feel well put together, and one press brings the canopy out neatly. Pressing again folds the canopy; shortening the remaining shaft is a manual job. The mechanism works smoothly, without much fuss. The cover is useful for keeping everything gathered together in my bag. Here is my one small grumble: I have to straighten the folds before putting it away, instead of just stuffing the whole thing in and hoping for the best. Once I've done that, the sleeve goes on without a battle. A little tidying seems a fair exchange for having an umbrella I actually carry. PROS: ++Comfortable, distinctive loop handle ++Smooth opening mechanism ++Solid feel without being cumbersome ++Useful carry cover CONS: --Needs a neat fold to slip into the cover easily I would recommend it to anyone who wants a practical everyday umbrella with a bit more character than the usual folding variety.

Such a lovely little find!

Such a lovely little find! I had been looking for a sun umbrella that would actually come out with me, instead of being left behind because carrying it was too much bother. My lacy parasols are pretty, but more sunlight comes through them than I would like. The much larger fabric one gives lovely shade and is just too cumbersome for a casual summer walk. Something between the two was what I wanted. Folded up, this one is roughly 40cm long, and slips into my fairly roomy shoulder bag. Open, it gives me a comfortable patch of shade without that feeling of having a great sail overhead. The fabric looks and feels nice, and the beige is such a soft, restful colour. There is none of the decoration of my other parasols, but I find that rather charming in its own way. It is something I can imagine still liking after the novelty has gone. The framework seems nicely put together too. A press of the button opens it, and pressing again gathers the canopy in; I then shorten the shaft myself. Much easier to manage than the large parasol, especially when I want to tuck it away and have my hands free. I am glad I went for something simple and portable this time. I can quite see myself choosing another, just because this one is so pleasant to take along. One small caution......I still use sunscreen when I am under it. A nice bit of shade is not a reason to leave that at home.

Nice to have something useful that I actually enjoy carrying around.

Absolutely delighted with this for those sudden Florida downpours! Good cover for me, with room for my wife or son to squeeze alongside on a quick dash indoors!! LOL...it's not one of those enormous golf umbrellas, which suits me fine. Nice to have something useful that I actually enjoy carrying around.

Clifford Campbell

Worth spending the money on this one.

Worth spending the money on this one. I work downtown, where rain always seems to come at you sideways between the buildings. I've had umbrellas flip on that walk before. This one has stayed in shape so far & kept me dry, which is exactly what I needed from it.

Kristy Kane

Very handy with all our Seattle rain.

My granddaughter was so happy with it, really cute when she carries it. Folded down it's easy for her to bring along. It opens wide and covers her well without being a long umbrella to carry around. Feels well made and sturdy. Very handy with all our Seattle rain.

Jillian Huffman

For what I paid I think it was a very worthwhile buy.

Really pleased with how much cover I get when it's raining, without having a massive umbrella to steer round everyone. The loop handle gives me a comfortable hold too, so it feels manageable when people are close by. For what I paid I think it was a very worthwhile buy.

Sheila Frazier

opened out, it's a PROPER umbrella.

I went looking for the “best” umbrella, which in my mind meant something heavy enough to survive just about anything. Having used this one, I'm less convinced that sheer bulk is what makes an umbrella worth paying for. My first impression was that it was reasonably substantial without feeling like a piece of equipment. (You still have to take a little care with it....). Toughness matters, certainly, but so does covering your clothes rather than just the top of your head. I've liked bigger umbrellas in the past, so going compact seemed like a compromise. With this one I don't feel I've given up the part that actually matters. There's enough coverage for my suit in normal rain, and that means more to me than carrying around something enormous just for the sake of it. For the money, the balance seems right. No, I wouldn't call it indestructible. And no, I don't expect an umbrella to last forever. But the ribs have some give, the opening action is positive, and it hasn't left me wishing I'd chosen something heavier. That's a better basis for judging value, in my opinion. Folded down, it goes into my computer bag; opened out, it's a PROPER umbrella. It has kept me dry and is convenient enough that I actually take it along. That's what I wanted to buy in the first place. An easy recommendation.

Marcus Cole

The weather doesn't get to cancel that job.

Only arrived today and I've already decided we need another for my husband's car (which will probably become my spare when I misplace mine). It pops open pretty sharply, so don't try it right next to something. The coverage is just what I need for evenings spent outside checking tickets, answering questions and pointing people in the right direction. The weather doesn't get to cancel that job. Didn't expect an umbrella to make me this pleased, but being able to get it open quickly and stay dry feels like money well spent.

Tammy Pace

Enough room underneath to keep me dry without being awkward to carry.

Got two so there might actually be an umbrella here when I need one, the kids keep walking off with them. These feel sturdy, look neatly finished and the push button action is handy(!). Enough room underneath to keep me dry without being awkward to carry. Can see myself ending up ordering a few more.

Alison Bolton

Just the thing for our rainy Pacific Northwest days.

Just the thing for our rainy Pacific Northwest days. My son takes it along for the walk to his bus stop, then keeps it in the outside pocket of his school bag. It folds down neatly enough that he isn't fussing with it all day. The button is quick to open it when the rain starts, and it has held up well for his use. A little heavier than we'd hoped, but overall it's been a useful purchase.

Dennis Stephenson

This one has been a very good choice.

After losing my previous folding umbrella, I wanted a replacement that was reasonably priced and practical to carry. It needed to fit in my backpack, because I prefer to have my hands free, and it needed to feel substantial enough for blustery rain. This one has been a very good choice. For carrying around it is quite light, but still gives a sturdy feeling. The oval loop is comfortable in my hand, and water runs off the fabric nicely. At about 40cm folded, it slips into my backpack or briefcase easily. Opened out, the canopy is much roomier than the folded size suggests. I also appreciate the quick button opening when the rain starts. Overall, it has the everyday convenience I was looking for, at a price I was happy to pay.

Joel Flores

I've used folding umbrellas for years, and left my last one behind…

I've used folding umbrellas for years, and left my last one behind when I moved. This gives good coverage while still folding down enough for my bag or briefcase. The closed loop handle isn't quite as convenient for me as carrying one by a wrist strap. Nothing major, just a little less natural to hold when I'm also carrying other things.

Karen Krause

I get absurdly excited about a nice umbrella.

I get absurdly excited about a nice umbrella. Forty years old and still a kid at heart really. No children of my own and no plans for any, this one is for me. I wanted something cheerful to carry and this caught my eye. they had wrapped it so carefully that getting into it seemed to take forever hahahaha. I did appreciate that though, because it came out looking absolutely perfect. The oval handle is my favorite part, I keep admiring it.

Beverly Forbes

My blue Haven has become the umbrella I reach for first.

My blue Haven has become the umbrella I reach for first. The price made me hesitate, but after using it through a very wet summer I don't regret spending the extra. Rain often comes with wind here, and so far it has held its shape rather than trying to flip over my head. The 30 ribs give the canopy a nicely rounded look as well as making it feel well supported. This sounds a little silly, but I have put it up for drizzle I might otherwise have ignored because I enjoy how it looks. I've even had a few comments on it, which is rather gratifying when you've debated buying an umbrella. Folded down, it isn't quite as tiny as some of the little umbrellas you can tuck into the smallest bag. It does telescope, though, so I haven't found carrying it a problem. The button brings the canopy in, then I push the shaft back down by hand. I tend to carry it using the oval loop or put it with my backpack rather than try to cram it into a coat pocket. That loop is comfortable to hold when I'm adjusting the angle against rain coming in sideways. It's also useful for hanging the umbrella up at the office to dry, instead of having it lying across everything. Once dry and folded it stays neatly beside my chair. For me the coverage is just right. Sharing is possible, but two people need to stand fairly close and I wouldn't count on both outside shoulders staying dry. Overall, this has been a purchase I've enjoyed more than expected. I'd happily give one as a gift, and if I lost mine I'd want the same umbrella again.

Traci Hoffman

A good umbrella overall, and the button sends it up quickly.

A good umbrella overall, and the button sends it up quickly. Closing the canopy is easy with the button too. It's pushing the telescoping section down afterwards that takes more effort than I'd like, especially when I'm rushing. That is how it resets, not a fault, but it does make packing it away less convenient. Otherwise I have no complaints about using it in the rain.

Deanna Weiss

The first thing I noticed was how solid the umbrella felt.

The first thing I noticed was how solid the umbrella felt. The gray is a nice plain shade, which suits me better than something shiny. My old folding umbrella had become awkward to use so I wanted something that felt stronger. The oval handle is a bit different, but it sits nicely in my hand. Getting everything folded neatly again takes more attention than my last one. The button brings the canopy in, then I have to push the telescoping part down myself. I got it into the sleeve eventually, although I wouldn't say that part is effortless. I do appreciate having a cover when it is put away. FOLLOWUP: HAVE NOW HAD IT OUT SEVERAL TIMES, INCLUDING A RAINY DAY WITH SOME WIND. IT KEPT ME DRY AND STILL OPENS AND CLOSES AS IT SHOULD. THE FOLDING IS EASIER NOW I KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT, BUT GETTING THE MATERIAL TIDY ENOUGH FOR THE SLEEVE STILL TAKES ME A MINUTE. I AM KEEPING IT. A GOOD EVERYDAY UMBRELLA, JUST NOT QUITE AS QUICK TO PUT AWAY AS I HAD HOPED.

Cameron Curtis

They do nicely in rain and give shade too.

Been buying these for a few years now and still love them. Replacing one usually means i've left it somewhere, not worn it out. Solid things. They do nicely in rain and give shade too.I keep two in the trunk so there's always one handy. Nice when something is actually well made.

Jeffrey Chapman

Both my grown children like blue....

Both my grown children like blue....Even after forty years there's still that business of comparing who got the nicer thing. So I needed another umbrella to keep things even, and this one was right. Handy to leave in the car and ready whenever the rain turns up.

Mike Kidd

Opens out bigger than it looks folded.

Opens out bigger than it looks folded. Has a little heft, not the shortest thing either, and I like it. My wife might be less graceful with it,, but the two of us can fit if we stand close. I wouldn't call it a tent or trust it as a parachute, though it certainly gives me decent cover in the rain. Feels like quality.

Krista Hartman

The quality caught me by surprise for what I paid.

The quality caught me by surprise for what I paid. Plenty of cheap folding umbrellas feel pretty crappy, so I don't mind spending a little extra on one that feels substantial. I'm hoping it will last me a long while. It's also nice looking, enough that I could call it fashionable.

Gregg Lutz

It's a good choice for engagement or wedding pictures.

It's a good choice for engagement or wedding pictures. I hadn't thought about how much the loop handle would show, so I'm hoping our photographer can keep that from being too noticeable. The shape is a bit more practical than romantic. Still, it looks lovely overall and adds something different to the photos, which is what I wanted.

Jeffery Rogers

There was rain and then there was RAIN.

So we don't usually get terribly wild weather here in New England, but the recent storm gave me a chance to try this umbrella. There was rain and then there was RAIN. I was mostly dry, even with it blowing in sideways, and the frame felt reassuringly steady. I'm not saying go out in the worst weather with a handheld umbrella, but for the rain I used it in, it did very well. Cost more than I normally spend on one, yes, but I'm glad I paid it. It also looks smart and isn't a long awkward thing to carry when folded. What more do I really need from an umbrella?

Joe Fisher

I would certainly recommend this one.

One for me, one for a friend, and now another to keep as a spare. Once you have an umbrella that feels comfortable and works well, it is easy to decide you want a second within reach... I would certainly recommend this one. The nicest thing is not having to wrestle it open, just press the button and it is ready to use. Very practical...

Courtney Irwin

It keeps me dry without being a huge umbrella to lug around.

Beige is a favourite of mine, so I was already smiling when I opened this! I've seen people mention needing a firm push on the button, but that suits me. With my previous umbrella a light touch was enough to set it off when I wasn't ready. Here I have to mean to press it, which I prefer. The sleeve is the one thing I'd warn about, and really only if you like using one. I never bother with them because they are another small thing for me to misplace. Getting all the fabric neatly wrapped to put it back inside is more fuss than I'd want, though it can be done. For me that doesn't matter at all.I've had it out in the rain a few times now and the coverage has been great. It keeps me dry without being a huge umbrella to lug around. That's the main thing, so I'm delighted!

Alvin Carson

Fingers crossed it keeps going!

We've hardly had any rain since it arrived, so there's not been much chance to give it a proper try. My little boy is delighted with it though. Wants to take it along whether it's raining or not. He likes the button opening, and I help with putting it away afterwards. The fabric and frame feel good so far, not something that'll fall apart straight away. Fingers crossed it keeps going!

Mario Irwin

arrived quickly too which was appreciated.

was looking for good coverage and a plain look, nothing flowery or decorative. This one has worked out nicely for both. The frame feels substantial and I get the feeling it should last me a while. arrived quickly too which was appreciated. happy with it thanks

Zachary Butler

So far it still looks and feels like an umbrella I can rely on.

Living near Seattle means I walk in the rain a lot, and this has been in regular use for seven months now. So far it still looks and feels like an umbrella I can rely on. It goes in my backpack on days when the weather might go either way, without taking over the whole bag, but gives me enough cover once it's open. What I appreciate most is how uneventful using it has been. The button works, the fabric is still attached neatly to the ribs, and folding it away doesn't turn into a wrestling match. The sleeve hasn't become one of those things I give up on and leave at home. It all still fits together properly after so much carrying and opening and closing. I've had plenty of umbrellas where some little annoyance appeared almost straight away, then got worse every time I used them. That hasn't happened here. If this one eventually wears out, or more likely gets left somewhere, I would choose it again. It's made an everyday chore easier, which is about the best compliment I can give an umbrella.

Dawn Mullen

The green is lovely, just the sort of colour I go for.

Living in the Northwest means an umbrella actually gets used, and this one has been doing a nice job. The green is lovely, just the sort of colour I go for. I admit I have more umbrellas than anyone needs because I like them with different coats, but this one seems to work with so much of my wardrobe! Could have saved myself some choosing if I'd picked it up sooner!

Shannon Bowman

They feel sturdy and have been good in the wind so far.

Four umbrellas in one purchase. Ended up spending more than I had planned on umbrellas, but I am pleased with the actual umbrellas. They feel sturdy and have been good in the wind so far.Weight is noticeable for carrying in a purse, and I would not think of one as pocket size. Still very glad to have them.

Frederick Noble

So happy I went ahead and bought them, thank you again

The umbrella came carefully packed and looked Beautiful when I took it out. Pictures don't quite give you that happy feeling of seeing it opened in front of you!! I was so taken with the first that I ordered another about six months afterwards!!!!I'd admired an umbrella at a show and kept thinking about it long after, so finding this brought that feeling back. I spent quite a while looking online before settling on it and I'm very glad I did. It is useful of course, but I also just enjoy the way it looks. Both of mine arrived looking lovely and I appreciate that little bit of care with the packing. So happy I went ahead and bought them, thank you again

My eight-year-old really likes this umbrella.

My eight-year-old really likes this umbrella. Neat little design. It goes in her backpack once folded, which is just what we needed for school. I wondered whether beige would be a bit plain....but it looks really pretty in person. She's happy with it and so am I!

Charles Ware

Really pleased with it, although it's heavier than I pictured.

Really pleased with it, although it's heavier than I pictured. Calling it compact had me expecting something I could slip into my handbag, and it's a bit much for that. Well put together though, and the button closing the canopy is handy. Two of us can squeeze underneath if we have to. It'll stay in the car ready for sudden rain instead. I like the blue, a simple colour that won't date.

Kaylee Joyce

My favourite umbrella.

It folds down small enough for my briefcase.

My previous umbrella was easy to pack away but opened out far enough to be useful. After years of use it finally gave out. I had a go at straightening the bent metal, only made matters worse, and ended up binning it. This replacement has done well so far. The button opens and closes the canopy without any fuss, there's enough coverage, and it has held its shape through some gusty weather. I can't really judge how many years I'll get out of it yet, but for now it seems a sensible replacement. My one complaint is the position of that button on the handle. If you aren't thinking about where your fingers are resting, it would be easy to press it and close the canopy while you are still standing in the rain. I have to be a little careful about my grip.Overall I'd suggest it to someone wanting useful coverage without having a long umbrella to lug about. It folds down small enough for my briefcase.

Katie Ramsey

The button opens it fine.

Quite a compact cream white umbrella, and the loop handle is useful for attaching to my backpack. The button opens it fine. Getting it neatly wrapped and back into the sleeve is a little fiddly. Everything looks carefully put together, though. Only used it a little so far, but I'm feeling hopeful about it.

Penny Duffy

Nice finish.

Nice finish. Feels well put together. Still fairly long folded up. I chose three in beige to use as parasols. They give pleasant shade, though after several hours in strong sun I still got a sunburn. I wouldn't rely on an umbrella alone for that. Happy with them overall, just need to remember the other sun precautions too.

Belinda Delacruz

For the money the QUALITY feels excellent.

This was for me, not somebody else's present, and I am SO glad I ordered it! I had been wanting a black umbrella that folded up, but the ones I'd looked at felt a bit flimsy for the money. This one actually feels worth paying for, and at this price I think it's a bargain. It feels substantial when it's open without being a burden to carry. The oval loop is a nice size for my hand too. That matters when you're standing beside the car trying to fish your keys out, holding your bag and attempting not to get soaked all at once! I don't need an umbrella making that little performance any harder, and this one is quite manageable. Having the button to open it saves another bit of fumbling. Another reason I wanted a compact one was being able to move it about without feeling like I was wrestling something enormous. I can tilt it against the rain, then lift it a little to check what's going on around me. As a mom with a seven year old, and an eldest about to make me a grandmother, keeping an eye on things is pretty much second nature! Being able to shift it comfortably makes a difference to me. I'm already thinking of these for the people I never know what to buy. A teacher at Christmas could certainly use one, man or woman. Useful, looks nice, and not something that has to sit on a shelf. For the money the QUALITY feels excellent. I'd happily get another and give one too :^)

Lucas Crosby

Good sturdy umbrella with a useful button for opening and folding…

Good sturdy umbrella with a useful button for opening and folding the canopy. Once up, it gives me much better coverage than my little travel umbrella did, and two of us can share if we stand close. Packing it away takes a little care because there's more fabric to gather. That is a fair trade for the space underneath, and it has handled gusty rain well.

Courtney Charles

Small enough to tuck in her bag afterwards too.

It's compact. Tough feeling little thing. Not thin and flimsy like some folding umbrellas. We live in Oregon and there's no shortage of wet weather. My wife is at university and carries this little brella everywhere, she's always praising it. Keeps her dry and she can hold the loop handle comfortably when it's breezy. Small enough to tuck in her bag afterwards too. A proper little workhorse

Bridget Rosales

The fabric also gives a good impression of quality.

The stitching looks tidy and the handle has a smooth, carefully finished feel. The fabric also gives a good impression of quality. It is not tiny or featherlight once folded, so I would not suggest it for someone wanting the smallest possible bag umbrella. For someone who prefers a folding umbrella that feels substantial and nicely finished, it is a good choice.

Pam Mcguire

For what we need around the camper I am happy with it.

We keep this umbrella in our seasonal camper and it has been a useful thing to have there. The fabric seems substantial and the ribs don't feel flimsy when it is up. I wanted something that could be put away between uses rather than a long umbrella taking up room. The button opens it promptly and also draws the canopy shut, which works well. Getting the shaft pushed back down takes more force than I would prefer, especially if I'm holding other things at the same time. My wife finds that last part a little harder than I do. It isn't a fault with the button, just the part you finish by hand. Once packed away it is a sensible size. For what we need around the camper I am happy with it.

Donna Reed

A great buy for my walk!!!

My walk from the car to work is over a mile, so keeping my backpack covered matters too. This gives me room for both without rain running down my back. It's been fine on windy mornings as well. Folds up easily when I reach work and feels solid enough for everyday use. A great buy for my walk!!!

Eddie Chavez

What a lovely looking umbrella!

What a lovely looking umbrella! The blue outside against the black underneath is a really nice combination. The oval loop handle feels solid and gives you something secure to hold. Comes with a sleeve too. Once it's up there's a generous area covered, I'm certainly happy standing under it!
