Living right by the lake in Chicago meant I'd already lost a few umbrellas to the wind before buying this one. I did some looking around first and chose this, and I'm glad I did. It's seen plenty of wet, blustery days with me. Four years on and it still opens and shelters me just fine!
Caroline Mendoza
Button opening is quick!
Smart enough for the home-work walk - I'm usually in a suit or something business casual, and the black doesn't look out of place. Button opening is quick!A little more than I'd hoped to spend on an umbrella, but after looking around I'm pleased with what I ended up with!

Absolutely delighted with this umbrella!
Absolutely delighted with this umbrella! the green is much nicer in person, a clean color rather than the dull shade I expected from the photo. I wondered whether it would feel too big at first, but a few uses have changed my mind. The extra room is comfortable. The oval handle is another thing I enjoy, gives it a neat, distinctive look.

Hopefully this helps someone else with the endless umbrella search :)
Living in Boston, I was getting pretty tired of treating umbrellas like something you just keep replacing. The cheap ones always seemed to give up right when I needed them! I wanted something that would keep me properly dry and feel worth hanging onto. This pink one has been a really good buy for a few reasons:a) Several months in, it still opens cleanly and feels just as solid as when it arrived. Nothing about it feels worn out already.b) Having it open with a button is genuinely useful. When you're stepping outside into rain, not having to wrestle the thing open makes a difference.c) The canopy has kept its shape during the gusts I've encountered. I'm not claiming it's indestructible, but it feels much more dependable than the flimsy umbrellas I was used to.d) The pink is cute! I've had people comment on the colour, which is a nice little bonus on an otherwise miserable wet day.e) It folds into something I can reasonably carry around rather than a huge awkward stick. That matters because I actually want to have it with me when the rain starts! For me it's been worth spending a bit more on something I enjoy using and don't immediately expect to replace. Hopefully this helps someone else with the endless umbrella search :)

Gray looks really nice on this umbrella.
Gray looks really nice on this umbrella. A couple of people have asked where I found it, which doesn't happen with my usual umbrellas. The loop handle gives it a bit of character without being fussy. If you like a smart looking umbrella, I would certainly point you towards this one. Absolutely love it!!!
Peter Stevenson
Honestly, the quality has impressed me.
Used three of these for our show choir's rain-themed number and they were a great choice. Lots of opening, shutting and moving them around in rehearsal, and they still look good. We even needed them for actual rain a couple of times on the way out, so they weren't just stage props. Honestly, the quality has impressed me. I'd pay the bit extra again for umbrellas that feel this solid.
Joshua Coffey
Feels good quality and the oval handle is easy to grip.
Smart looking umbrella and I really like the gray. My 6 year old loves holding it!!!It gives good coverage(not tiny, but folds away neatly). Feels good quality and the oval handle is easy to grip. The button opens and closes the canopy, then I help shorten the pole. We're both happy with it!

I needed something to replace my old umbrella after the wind…
I needed something to replace my old umbrella after the wind finally finished it off. My walk to work is right along the waterfront / open roads, so rain rarely comes straight down. I've had plenty of umbrellas twist about on that route, but this one has been comfortable to hold and has coped with the breezy walks so far!
Karen Watts
It also makes a pleasant patch of shade on a sunny day.
A good, useful umbrella with more thought in the handle than I expected. That may sound like a small detail, but my older, arthritic hands appreciate having an oval loop to hold rather than a tiny knob. The opening button is easy for me to manage, and the canopy gives me plenty of coverage. It also makes a pleasant patch of shade on a sunny day. The ribs have some flexibility instead of feeling completely rigid, which seems sensible when the breeze catches it. Overall it feels substantial without being awkward to take along.
Christina Kennedy
The two umbrellas are nicely made and both work as they should.
The two umbrellas are nicely made and both work as they should. I like how neatly they fold up, and the canopy feels well supported when open. My only reservation is the overall look. I had pictured the green being a more understated choice for me, and in person it has more presence than I expected. There is nothing wrong with it, just not quite the look I normally carry. My wife likes it much more than I do, so one is going to her and I will keep the other as a spare. That is a matter of personal taste rather than anything about the way it works. On practical grounds I think they are good value and useful umbrellas.
Carolyn Bolton
She likes a simple style and is pleased with it.
A friend I walk with wanted an umbrella that looked a bit smarter, so this was her present. She likes a simple style and is pleased with it. People have commented on how nice it looks when we're out. She's been using it for a year now and it still works as it should.
Betty Ford
I would be pleased to give one as a gift.
I used to treat umbrellas as things I would lose sooner or later, and the flimsy ones hardly seemed worth keeping track of. Since getting this one I actually remember where I leave it because I want to keep it. The green is just right, and it feels like something worth looking after rather than forgetting about once the rain stops. I would be pleased to give one as a gift.
Tamara Lowery
I am pleased, easy to keep with me and compact.
I had lost three umbrellas in two months before getting this one. Windy in the city but it has been fine on my walks. I am pleased, easy to keep with me and compact. Might still buy something bigger for when it pours as I want more cover then, this one is good for carrying every day
Bryan Henson
A very pretty umbrella.
A very pretty umbrella. Feels sturdy as well. I'd been searching for a good one for awhile after my last umbrella didn't last long. So far this one has been very dependable. It costs a little more than I'd normally pay, but I'd rather pay that for something that feels properly made
Rachel Mcdowell
As described.
As described. The flexible ribs support the fabric all the way out to the edge, so i expect it to handle a bit of wind. The handle is slightly small for my hand, but the clip and the button for opening and closing the canopy make it very convenient for me. Still need a rainy day to find out how it does outside.
Jeff Acosta
This handheld one seemed a sensible choice.
I needed a new umbrella for some shade at the beach and wanted something less of a production to take along. This handheld one seemed a sensible choice. I liked the solid feeling frame and the convenience of opening it with a button. It won't stand in the sand by itself, of course, but for holding over me while I sit it's just what I was looking for. Goes back in its sleeve afterwards and I'm ready to head home. Bring on the beach!
Martha Reilly
A good choice!
I prefer something cheerful for my preschool boys (umbrellas ought to be fun), so the pink appealed to us. These were much sturdier than I expected when they arrived -- the frame has a little give rather than feeling brittle. They've coped with everyday handling well, and I look after the automatic opening for them. A good choice!
Cristina Ramos
Really pleased with what I got for the money!
Ordered these in beige for an outdoor park wedding, and they were more popular than I expected! People kept wanting a turn under one. They looked pretty, felt sturdy and were comfortable to hold in the light breeze. Best of all, they gave some welcome shade on a very bright, warm day. Everyone wanted the shady spot!Really pleased with what I got for the money!
Maurice Sherman
The umbrellas felt like a nice way to show my gratitude.
These were thank you gifts for the nurse friends who supported us when my husband was so ill with oral cancer. They are longtime friends who also helped care for him at home, which meant more than I can say. I wanted something useful that might also remind them of him when they carry it. The umbrellas felt like a nice way to show my gratitude. The cream white is a warmer white, not a bright paper white, but that was fine with me.
Corey Roberson
Everything was as I expected and it arrived safely packed.
Everything was as I expected and it arrived safely packed. This was a birthday gift for my daughter and she was delighted. I'm tempted to get another for myself! I gave it to her at work, and the timing couldn't have been better. A thunderstorm started as she was heading home, so the umbrella got its first outing straight away!
Hunter Valentine
It still makes me smile.
A small duffle comes to work with me, and this umbrella lives in it for surprise showers. I still enjoy showing people the button: one press to open, another to bring the canopy down. The shaft isn't automatic; you push it back down by hand before putting it away. Once you've done it, it's straightforward. Mine has been coming along for years now and is still useful. Slightly silly, but sometimes I try the button when I don't even need shelter. It still makes me smile.

A very welcome replacement--I'd had enough of umbrellas folding the wrong way in gusts--used this one just once so far, on a properly wet and windy day, and it gave me decent cover without turning inside out, so that first outing has left me feeling pretty happy about it
Mary Golden
The green looks lovely and people do comment on it.
Two years on and this is still the umbrella I reach for on the hottest days. A friend liked mine so much that I got her one too, and she's happy with hers. I use umbrellas for shade a lot, and this gives me a comfortable patch of it without feeling cramped underneath. The green looks lovely and people do comment on it. A sun hat is fine, but I much prefer being under an umbrella when the sun is really beating down.
Betty Mclaughlin
Some comments had me wondering how solid it would be.
Some comments had me wondering how solid it would be. I'm no umbrella expert, but this feels reasonably put together and gives decent coverage. Button operation is straightforward. Bigger folded than I'd pictured, though. Hopefully my girlfriend stays on the ground next time it's windy.
Sophia Vincent
The fabric and frame both seem dependable.
After using this blue umbrella for a while , i feel it was a good choice. The colour is attractive without looking too loud, and it looks neat with whatever I am wearing. Everything feels securely put together and the canopy has given me good cover in the rain. Pressing the button opens it smoothly and another press folds the canopy, then I push the stem in to pack it away. I find the oval handle pleasant to hold even when carrying it for longer. The fabric and frame both seem dependable. Overall it has been a very useful purchase and i would recommend it to anyone wanting a smart, practical umbrella.

Sent one to my father-in-law at Christmas and he was very happy with it. It gives a decent amount of shelter when opened, although be aware folded doesn't mean tiny! It would take up some room in his travel bag when he visits us in England. Still much handier to bring along than a full length umbrella, and keeps him dry!
Dave Wiley
Was meant to replace an older umbrella with more coverage...
Folds up neatly, around 40cm long-- fine. However, the open canopy is roughly 105cm across, and that isn't as generous as I'd pictured. Enough for me, not much room to spare! Was meant to replace an older umbrella with more coverage... this does the job in normal rain, but doesn't feel like quite the replacement I wanted. The button is handy and it packs away neatly, so it's not all bad. Just a compromise on size I hadn't really thought through. I should have checked the dimensions instead of assuming a compact umbrella would still give me all that extra room!
Morgan Richmond
It's coped well with wind on everyday walks.
Living in Boston, I wanted something for the rainy months that wouldn't take over my bag. This one is fairly light to carry, folds down neatly, and feels sturdier than I expected. It's coped well with wind on everyday walks.I'd still take a larger umbrella if I knew I was going out in really rough weather, but for an unexpected shower this is very handy. A press of the button gathers the canopy quickly when I reach the car or a doorway, then I press the telescoping shaft down to pack it. Reasonable price as well.I'd recommend it.
Vincent Hill
simple looking and surprisingly nice to hold.
A good companion for the showers we get in Florida (and I'm sure we're not the only place with ridiculous rain). It feels much less flimsy than umbrellas I've had before, and so far the gusts haven't sent the canopy turning upwards. The pink still looks fresh, with no fading that I've noticed. There's enough width to shelter my shoulders... rather than just the top of my head. I like the closed oval handle too; simple looking and surprisingly nice to hold.

Picked this up for shade while wandering around music festivals.
Picked this up for shade while wandering around music festivals.I was after something good looking but not too fussy, and the gray suits me. Being a man doesn't mean I can't appreciate a nice umbrella, just wanted one I felt comfortable carrying. It opens out to a surprisingly decent size and feels substantial.Folded, it fits in the bottle pouch on my backpack, which is handy when I'm moving about. There is a sleeve, though that may be the first thing I manage to lose. One push and it's open, no struggle. Easily one of the better things I've bought for spending time outdoors.
Antonio Gutierrez
The oval loop handle is quite nice to hold as well.
A plain black umbrella wasn't actually where I started my search. I'd seen someone carrying one that looked almost like a painting, and the idea stayed with me, although I didn't particularly want that same picture myself. After a fair bit of looking I ended up choosing this much simpler one! There hasn't been any rain for me to try it in yet, but I did open it when it arrived and I'm pleased with how it looks. The sleeve is plain, the outside is black and the underside is black too. Not the decorative thing I first had in mind, but I like it. There's quite a number of ribs when you look up inside. Opening is automatic, and pressing the button again brings the canopy in; you still have to shorten the telescoping section yourself afterwards. I tried that a couple of times to understand it, no trouble. What I hadn't really thought through was the folded length. It's about 40cm, which I could have checked before ordering, but I got carried away looking at the umbrella rather than thinking about my handbag! It isn't tiny, and my small bag won't be the one I carry it in. I'll just take a larger bag on days I want it with me. No great problem. The oval loop handle is quite nice to hold as well. So far I'm pleased with my choice, even if I've only been opening it indoors. Hopefully it gets its first rainy day soon.
Parker Lowery
After a few months this is still in good shape.
After a few months this is still in good shape. I can't put a number on how much cooler it feels underneath, but having some shade makes being out in the sun much nicer! The flexible ribs seem decent, though a steady wind still pulls on the canopy. It isn't something I'd want to fight against all afternoon. The closed loop gives me a good grip but my hand can still get tired. If it carries on like this for a couple of years, I'd be happy to buy another.
Vanessa Mcgrath
I especially like the sleeve and the oval loop handle.
This was my boyfriend's Xmas gift and he was delighted with it. He thought the size was just right. I especially like the sleeve and the oval loop handle. We're in San Diego and hardly get any rain, so I imagine it will be around for quite a while with the amount of use it'll get.
Chad Parrish
We have one in each vehicle now and we LOVE having them handy.
We have one in each vehicle now and we LOVE having them handy. They've come through the wet, windy days we've used them in without the frames flipping over or giving out. This purchase is for a gift, rather than another replacement for us (a nice change from my usual umbrella buying). I'd happily give more of these, ours have been such dependable things.
Chloe Parsons
This umbrella is great!
This umbrella is great! There's lots of space under it, but it folds to about 40cm so it isn't awkward to carry. Not terribly heavy either. A press gets it open, another collapses the canopy, then you push the shaft in yourself. I had read a comment about whether a cover was included. Mine came with a carry sleeve and it keeps the folded umbrella tidy.Update: I went with blue, and my mother liked mine enough to want the same one. Hers has the sleeve too.
Alexa Herman
It is handy.
It is handy.
Not a long umbrella.
The folded size goes in my bag, although it is not the lightest thing inside.
For rain it is useful. The rest of the day can still be poop and urine.
There are some inconveniences.
The button opens it and closes the canopy.
It does not pull the shaft down for you.
That part is pressed in by hand.
It needs a firm push.
Again.
Getting the fabric arranged neatly afterwards is slower than pressing the button.
If I rush, the folded shape looks untidy.
Even with that, it is useful and
At a low price I would consider it a good buy.
As something portable, it does the work.
The fabric has kept ordinary rain off.
The underside is black. For summer shade, it also seems quite suitable.
Kim Adams
This has been a very good choice.
After getting tired of flimsy umbrellas, I wanted one that seemed worth hanging on to. This has been a very good choice. To me, the value is in how solid it feels rather than saving a little at the start. The shaft has a much more substantial feel than the bargain ones I have had, and the ribs have some give instead of feeling rigid and brittle. It provides a decent amount of shelter without needing a full length umbrella. Folded, it is still something I can take along quite readily. I wasn't sure about the loop handle initially (I generally prefer something simpler), but it has proved useful and has even attracted a few compliments. As well, I am making a point of not leaving this one behind. There is a little effort involved in packing it away. The button collapses the canopy, then I have to press the shaft down by hand. That last push is easier using both hands, so not quite a one handed operation throughout. Still, I consider that a small compromise for an umbrella I otherwise really enjoy using.
Nathan Rowland
Lovely shade and makes me much more comfortable.
I take it out at work daily to cut down the sun I'm standing in. Lovely shade and makes me much more comfortable. Just watch it in a breeze... holding it too high gives the wind more to catch. The canopy feels strong, but it can still pull on your arm, so I keep it a little lower when the air gets lively.
Vickie Cochran
No seeing through this one.
We started with one and ended up getting another because both kids wanted to carry it every time. Its a nice plain blue and they seem to think pressing the button is the best part. The 5 year old can hold it for a while, but I help with closing and don't leave the 2 year old to work it alone. It gives them plenty of cover, though I do have to remind them not to pull it right down in front of their faces. No seeing through this one.The sleeve is useful when putting everything away. Cons - quite a STRONG new smell at first. Left it open to air and that helped a lot, although still a bit noticeable up close. Not the lightest for little hands either, but overall we're happy with them.
Tony Frazier

The blue is lovely, the loop handle suits me and i thought the price was good. It isn't the huge umbrella i normally choose, because i'm a big woman and usually like plenty of room. Still, for a smaller umbrella this is a very nice one and i'm glad i tried it.
Tyrone Buck
Enough with the cheap umbrellas.
Enough with the cheap umbrellas. I must have spent a ridiculous amount replacing them after city walks, so I decided to get something decent for once. So glad I did. This one feels solid when the wind picks up between buildings. I'm no longer doing that stupid wrestle with an inside out umbrella while everyone walks past. Just carry on walking and get where I'm going dry.
Francisco Hutchinson
The pink Haven seems like a very good value to me.
The pink Haven seems like a very good value to me. My usual reference point is a larger umbrella that takes up considerably more room. This one holds up well as an everyday alternative, and the smaller package is a real advantage. There are reasons to carry a big umbrella, but there are also reasons to leave one behind.
There are some useful details here. The handle ends in a closed oval loop, rather than the usual curved hook. It gives my fingers somewhere to settle without having a long handle sticking out. Pressing the button gets the umbrella open quickly, which is probably the feature I appreciate most when rain starts. Another press collapses the canopy; you still compress the telescoping shaft yourself afterward. That is a straightforward arrangement once you have done it. Looking up, there is a black underside beneath the pink exterior. I like the contrast, although the quick opening matters more to me than the appearance underneath.
Weight is another point in its favour. At around 390g it is not something I resent adding to a bag. My bigger umbrella is more noticeable when I carry it around without actually needing it. A golf bag accumulates enough weight already. I would rather save a little of that allowance for a drink than use it all on an umbrella - a small advantage, but an advantage.
The fabric and sewing look respectable. Neither this nor my larger umbrella is something I would inspect as fine tailoring, but the basic finish seems quite satisfactory. Folded, the Haven is about 40cm long, so compact does not mean it disappears into a tiny pocket. It is still much easier to find room for among other things. The included sleeve gives it a tidy package when it is dry and put away.
Open size is where the larger umbrella gets a point back. This one is roughly 105cm across, which has been enough for me in ordinary rain. More coverage is still more coverage, particularly around the edges. That is the tradeoff rather than a fault. The frame has 30 flexible ribs and feels substantial for the size. I do not think simply counting ribs tells the whole story, but I like the supported feel of the canopy.
The first big difference, then, is what I am getting for the money. A larger, more expensive umbrella might make sense if that extra area is the main priority. For everyday use, I am happy with the balance here. Paying more does not automatically make something more useful if I am less inclined to take it along.
The other difference is how much bad weather I would expect it to handle. The flexible frame is reassuring, but I would not turn that into a claim that it can deal with anything. I have been satisfied using it for normal rain. Whether some more elaborate umbrella construction would matter in particularly nasty conditions is hard to judge. At that point I would probably be thinking about getting indoors anyway, not conducting a serious umbrella comparison in the middle of it.
The pink looks nice in person. It is a cheerful colour without making the whole thing look like a novelty. My wife liked the appearance too and would happily use it. That is a useful little test, since an umbrella that nobody wants to pick up is not much help, however sensible its specifications sound.
Oh, a small thing about putting it away. I appreciate having the sleeve rather than just a loose folded umbrella among everything else. Not an exciting feature, but useful. This arrived in winter, and the pink was a pleasant change from the weather outside. Not quite a sunny day on the course, but I can think ahead.
Overall, I am happy with it. It gives up some coverage compared with a bigger umbrella, while being much less of a commitment to carry. Good value, useful button operation, and a little less weight in the bag. I will take that combination.
Morgan Romero
This one has been a much nicer companion on my walk to work.
Living in the Pacific Northwest, I see plenty of umbrellas looking pretty sad by the end of a wet week. This one has been a much nicer companion on my walk to work. Part of my route is a bridge with open water below, so there isn't much shelter when the rain blows across. I LOVE having something that feels solid in my hand but still goes into my backpack afterwards. It has kept me covered on those damp walks without being a long umbrella I have to carry everywhere. Not exciting until you need it, then it's your best friend.
Caroline Ray
She even took it along on her wedding day.
Picked this up for a bridal shower and the bride was delighted with it. She even took it along on her wedding day. The green looked lovely, though it is a plainer style than the decorative parasol I had pictured.I was a little anxious about how it would arrive, but it was packed neatly and came out looking good. A successful choice overall.

Nice to find something that looks good & is useful as well....
I loved my old umbrella & accidently left it sitting in a shopping cart. Went back a few minutes later & it had vanished. I searched around for a replacement & ended up finding this one, which I love just as much! People have stopped me to ask where I found it, & children have been quite excited by it too. The umbrella works nicely & opening it or closing the canopy w/the button is very easy...a quick push on the shaft finishes putting it away. Nice to find something that looks good & is useful as well....glad I went for it!
Jenny Mullins
I'd definitely recommend it.
My wife had this for her birthday and has been reaching for it whenever it rains. She's delighted with how it looks. It gives her a useful amount of cover, and I've squeezed alongside her when needed. Smooth to operate and straightforward to put away. what else is there to ask for? I'd definitely recommend it.
Sue Pennington
The handle feels quite solid in my hand.
It looks so pretty! The green is just what I was hoping for and there's more cover when it's open than I expected from seeing it folded. The handle feels quite solid in my hand. I'm a little cautious of the automatic button, mostly because I'm not used to one, so I've been taking my time with it. No rain yet, so this is only from trying it at home. I'll add more once I've taken it outside.UPDATE: Finally some rain and a chance to use it properly. I love it even more now. It was cheerful to have along and I came back dry. My dog was being carried against me and stayed under the canopy too!.Nothing awkward to manage while walking, and it packed away neatly afterwards. If you want something useful that still looks nice, this is a lovely choice.

I also rather enjoy carrying a proper umbrella.
Walking is a big part of my journey to work, so I need an umbrella I can actually rely on. After going through too many cheap ones I spent some time looking for something more substantial. This one costs more than the little emergency ones I used to grab, but the difference is obvious when you hold it. It doesn't feel like something I'll be throwing away after a couple of wet commutes. I also rather enjoy carrying a proper umbrella. I was still under 40 when the jokes about looking like an old gentleman started, which I thought was a bit premature. An older woman said I looked quite smart with it, though, so I'm choosing to remember that comment instead. The fact that it folds down is useful when I get to work. Perhaps by 80 I'll actually suit the gentleman image - for now I'll just enjoy arriving dry!

i wasn't expecting a compact umbrella to feel this solid.
i wasn't expecting a compact umbrella to feel this solid. It has done well in heavy rain and a few gusty spells, although I wouldn't choose it for a really wild day. The blue looks much as it did in the picture and people at work have commented on it. A little heavier than my ideal carry umbrella, but overall a decent buy for the money.
Maxwell Zhang
The way it looks makes buying an umbrella a little more exciting…
The way it looks makes buying an umbrella a little more exciting than it really ought to be. In practice, I'm less enthusiastic when the weather is gusty and would prefer something that felt more substantial in my hand. It keeps the rain off in an ordinary shower, though, and for that sort of use it is quite adequate.
