Bought this for my daughter at university in northern California,…

Bought this for my daughter at university in northern California, where she gets plenty of gloomy wet days. Wanted something she'd actually enjoy carrying, and the gray looks smart. Her verdict was "It's so easy to use, & people keep saying how nice it looks." I think the price is is pretty reasonable too, considering how nicely it's finished.

Attractive and sturdy, which is a good combination.

A really pretty umbrella, and people have said so when I've been out with it. It feels well put together rather than just being something nice to look at. The ribs give a little when the wind catches them, and it has kept its shape after being used on wet, breezy days. I appreciate not having something that feels flimsy in my hand. Attractive and sturdy, which is a good combination.

(if anyone actually keeps one of those).

I picked this umbrella largely on the expectation of quality - I don't want to be replacing one straight away. It has only been out three times, all in light rain, and it has covered me perfectly well. The part I find frustrating is gathering the fabric up neatly afterwards. Opening is no trouble, but getting a tidy folded bundle takes me longer than I think it should. The construction otherwise seems sound, so I'm leaving it at four stars rather than getting too worked up about that. I'll add an update ONLY if more use changes my opinion of it. If nothing appears here, assume it's still doing a respectable job and remains on my "decent umbrella list". (if anyone actually keeps one of those).

Happy to recommend it on that experience.

Mine still hasn't turned inside out! It's had regular use in the breezy wet weather around Boston and has kept me covered each time. Probably out with it about thirty times over four months now, and nothing seems loose or worn. Happy to recommend it on that experience.

Have used it in rain as well and it kept me dry!

I bought it before the State Tennis tournament in Mobile. June is not exactly cool down there, so shade was the whole reason for getting it. My teammates and I passed it around when we weren't playing and we were all glad to have it! Having the sun off my face made a real difference, much more comfortable than standing out in it. Have used it in rain as well and it kept me dry!

Im thinking these would be great for the Christmas list.

Had enough of little cheap umbrellas that feel like they're barely there. This feels like a proper umbrella, good cover and nice looking and.....still not a nuisance to open or carry. People have commented on it already. Maybe everyone has got used to the flimsy sort, because this feels like the REAL thing to me.Im thinking these would be great for the Christmas list.

I reach for it practically every day!

The shade from this umbrella makes being out in Florida sun much more comfortable. I reach for it practically every day! It comes along when I take the dog out or walk along the beach, and folds down for the short walk between the car and a store. Pushing the shaft back in takes a little effort after the button closes the canopy. That is my only gripe. It was especially useful on my summer visit to Yellowstone during that heat wave. Having shade I could take along made standing around outside a lot more bearable.

Buying an umbrella online is harder than it ought to be.

Buying an umbrella online is harder than it ought to be. You can read about sizes all day and still not know whether it will feel decent in your hand. This is my second Haven umbrella, and I wanted a plain beige one with enough coverage for an adult, not a tiny emergency canopy. It goes in my messenger bag without much trouble and has a reassuring feel when opened. The button opens it quickly and also pulls the canopy closed, although you finish by shortening the shaft yourself. That part is straightforward once you've done it. It is not the very smallest umbrella to carry, but I prefer that compromise to getting my shoulders wet. So far it has coped well with the weather I've taken it out in. Nothing particularly fancy about it, just a useful everyday umbrella that seems properly put together. For what I paid, I think it is a good balance of quality and convenience.

Want another one already!!!

Want another one already!!! The gray looks nice and the quick opening helps when I'm carrying things and trying to get through doors. It copes well with a breeze, although a gust caught it once and I had to straighten the canopy back out. Nothing damaged and it folded away easily afterwards, so that hasnt put me off using it at all.

I would happily recommend it for sunshine and rain.

I've had this umbrella for about three years now and reach for it in sunshine as well as rain. My skin is very sun-sensitive, and sunscreen can leave me with a rash, so portable shade is something I genuinely need. This is a sensible everyday size, feels sturdy, and the oval loop handle makes it manageable with all the other things I'm hauling out to the soccer field. The nicest part is how much more comfortable I feel underneath it on a hot day! Other parents have borrowed it along the sidelines to see the difference, and a few have decided they want one too. Mine is still in excellent condition. I have thought about getting something larger to shade my legs and feet as well, but for an umbrella I carry around, this size has been very useful. I would happily recommend it for sunshine and rain. It wasn't the cheapest option, but after this much use I feel the quality has made it worth the cost. Very happy with it. (btw, writing reviews of everyday purchases isn't usually my thing, but I wanted to say something about this one.) And summer heat certainly isn't limited to the South; we regularly have days in the 90s. This has been out with me through those hot afternoons and plenty of rainy, blustery weather too. It hasn't had a quiet life!

Decent value, suits me fine.

Decent value, suits me fine. There's enough room under it (I'm 6') and it feels reasonably solid, although the finish is more basic than fancy. The loop handle looks a bit odd to me, but I care more about holding it comfortably than appearances. It has coped with a little wind so far, nothing I'd call a proper test. I'd suggest it if you want a practical umbrella and aren't paying for something particularly smart looking.

A fun purchase that actually gets used.

Got this as a present for my "grown up" son, who still thinks he's a ninja! He enjoys the pop-open action, but it also keeps him dry on dog walks round the neighborhood. The kids always take an interest when he has it out. A fun purchase that actually gets used.

My ONE caution (did I picture it wrong???

Good-looking umbrella with a reassuring feel--light enough for me to carry comfortably! My ONE caution (did I picture it wrong???) is about the size. Roughly 105cm across when open is NOT a giant canopy for two people. Folded length is around 40cm, so compact doesn't mean it disappears into every handbag.Having said that, the cover is comfortable for me and doesn't take over the pavement when other people are walking past. It's a useful balance between shelter and something manageable. If you want a tiny purse umbrella, or a much bigger shared one, pay attention to the sizes rather than just the word compact.

Levi Conway

Pressing a button to open it or bring the canopy in is handy too.

Cheap umbrellas always seemed like a saving until I was replacing them again a few weeks later. Paying more for this one has made much better sense. I've carried it through plenty of pouring rain and breezy days and it still feels sturdy. It packs down small enough that taking it along isn't a nuisance, but once open there's proper room over my shoulders. Pressing a button to open it or bring the canopy in is handy too. I still think it's quite a bit to spend on an umbrella, but I'd rather pay for something I actually want to keep using.

Sonia Figueroa

It arrived without any fuss and the quality looks good to me.

When the umbrella I had finally gave up, I looked around for a replacement and this seemed like good value compared with what else was available. It arrived without any fuss and the quality looks good to me. Most of the use has actually been for shade while watching my daughter play soccer, rather than for rain. It's been comfortable to hold for that and has managed the Oklahoma breezes so far. I am pleased with what I paid and with the umbrella itself.

Joann Vaughn

lovely quality and didn't have to spend a fortune

kept admiring umbrellas like this in postcards and photos for ages .. finally went looking and ordered the blue one. it arrived during a snowstorm and of course we went straight outside to try it. loved it enough to buy more for my daughter and my mom, sister and niece. lovely quality and didn't have to spend a fortune

Follow up: The new umbrella arrived and the rain promptly disappeared!

My old umbrella has been with me for more years than I can remember, and I was ready to get another. It has served my wife and me very well. Usually one of us carries it, although we've shared the cover for short walks in rain. It has also coped nicely with windy days. I like having a loop to hold onto when it is folded, rather than an awkward handle. So I decided to try another of this kind. Familiar things have their merits.Follow up: The new umbrella arrived and the rain promptly disappeared! We waited several weeks before there was a chance to use it. Just one outing so far, but it feels at least as good as the old one. We'll see how it goes over time. The blue fabric is particularly nice. Very happy to have a fresh one ready for the next shower!

Molly Lindsey

Gave this one a try this morning in pouring rain.

I wanted an umbrella that would cover me and the things I carry to work, rather than just the top of my head. Gave this one a try this morning in pouring rain. With everything held close, it covered my purse, tablet, books and lunch pretty well. I held it high enough to see ahead instead of pulling it down in front of my eyes. Opening it was simple. The ribs have some give, which I noticed when I rested it against the car while getting my keys out. Once at work I left it open to dry and it dried out nicely.Overall it did what I wanted. A couple of things to keep in mind though. Folded, it is still long enough that it won't go in every bag. The fabric seems fairly fine, so I'm being careful about sharp corners and not shoving it in with everything else. Time will tell on that.

Kirsten Li

I would recommend it.

After using quite a few umbrellas, I prefer this one for its flexible frame, straightforward operation and the quality of the construction. It seems built for regular use.I would recommend it.One thing, the folded size is not the smallest you can find, but that is a reasonable tradeoff for something that feels steady in a breeze rather than flimsy (which gets frustrating very quickly).

Good for the money and it doesn't need much space...

Good for the money and it doesn't need much space... I used to have to look for an umbrella when rain surprised me abroad, but now I take this one along. Small enough that I don't mind carrying it... Looks as shown, though I think a bigger person might want more cover.

Walter Mcdaniel

THe less enjoyable part is putting it away.

Great coverage when it's up-- my shoulders stay dry and it feels steady in a breeze.THe less enjoyable part is putting it away. The canopy shuts with the button, but the telescoping stem needs a firm push by hand. It's meant to work that way, just more effort than I wanted. Useful in the rain but not quite the convenient little umbrella I hoped for.

Nicolas Gilmore

Sturdy umbrella, with a reassuring feel to the materials.

Sturdy umbrella, with a reassuring feel to the materials. Nothing to complain about so far, although I'm in NC and haven't had much severe weather to test it in. I'm 5'10", around 170 lbs and do a little exercise, but I still notice the weight after holding it for a while. It's not enormous or especially heavy, just more substantial than I expected from a folding umbrella. I wanted decent cover and the option of squeezing someone alongside me if necessary. For everyday use by myself, the size is right and I don't have to carry a long umbrella around.

Hayley Melton

For what i paid, I'm impressed.

For what i paid, I'm impressed. The gray looks nice and there's a decent amount of room underneath, even for two if you stand close. The canopy fabric feels tough rather than thin and papery. I hadn't really bought an umbrella before, so I was a little doubtful about getting a cheaper one and didn't have much to compare it with. Glad I went ahead, it has been worth the money. The telescoping bit had me wondering at first because I'm used to seeing thicker straight poles, but in use it's been fine. It's dealt with light wind without any fuss so far. I'm hoping to get a good few years out of it.

Andre Wiggins

Arrived quickly despite the holiday rush.

Wasn't certain what to expect ordering an umbrella online. But this is just right! Opens quickly, no rain test yet with two feet of snow outside, though the material feels tough. My daughter absolutely loves it! Arrived quickly despite the holiday rush. Nothing to complain about.

Antonio Pham

Thanks for putting together a good useful product.

I needed another umbrella after losing my old one, and this has turned out to be a very good choice. The build seems solid and better than the one I had before, and the price was good, so no complaints from me there. It opens without any fuss and gives me the rain cover I wanted. I'd definitely reccommend it to anyone after a decent umbrella that works properly and feels like it should last. Thanks for putting together a good useful product.

Sue Carey

A sensible umbrella for everyday use.

A sensible umbrella for everyday use. Takes up little enough room to bring when travelling, but gives decent cover once open. The frame feels well put together and has coped with breezy weather. Roomier than some little folding ones, without being an enormous golf umbrella.

Alejandra Browning

The button works every time too!

Several years of using this umbrella now and it is still all together and working great! It is solid and does everything I need. I really like the gray, looks smart without trying too hard. The button works every time too! No reason for me to look for a different umbrella. Still a 10/10 purchase!

A simple way to show a little of the gratitude I feel.

These were thank you gifts for nurse friends who were there for me while my husband was very ill with oral cancer. Some are friends of many years and helped us at home, which meant so much during a terrible time. I wanted something useful that might bring him to mind when they took it out on a rainy day. The cream white is softer than a bright paper white, but I was happy with that. A simple way to show a little of the gratitude I feel.

Alexander May

Feels well put together and looks like a good quality umbrella.

I ordered this for my daughter and hadn't pictured how much cover it would give her. She's very tiny, so it looks quite big above her! She's still at college now, but next year when she's working and wearing nicer clothes every day, I suspect she'll be grateful for it. The family have already started with the jokes that mom bought her something to shade the college patio. It folds down, so at least she can put it away between the jokes! Feels well put together and looks like a good quality umbrella. Should have added one for me....still tempted to do that!

Gabriel Hopkins

The weight surprised me!

I decided to spend a little more after getting fed up with cheap umbrellas that never seemed worth keeping. This one has been great so far, including on rainy days when the wind picks up between buildings. The weight surprised me!I'm quite short, so I was worried that getting decent coverage would mean lugging around something awkward. Actually it's been no trouble. Opened up there's enough room for me, then it folds down so I'm not carrying a full length umbrella everywhere. The sleeve is handy when I put it away, although I tend to leave it out until it's dry. Very happy with it! The blue looks a touch deeper to me than it did on the screen, but I don't mind that at all. It's a nice shade and the whole thing feels much better than the cheap ones I was forever buying.

Phyllis Rasmussen

I'm still happy with how it handles everyday rain.

My brother gave me this umbrella when I was getting everywhere on foot, and it ended up being one of those presents I used constantly. It has come along to San Francisco, China and Australia, so it certainly hasn't just sat in a cupboard. I'm still happy with how it handles everyday rain. After all that carrying the fabric isn't quite as fresh looking, and I'd prefer a little more coverage for a long walk in a downpour. Those are fairly small grumbles considering the use it's had. My roommate borrowed it once and could see why I keep taking it everywhere. I'll probably get another from the same range when this one looks too tired. Not perfect for every situation, but a VERY useful umbrella!

A good looking umbrella that does its main job very well.

A good looking umbrella that does its main job very well. The canopy gives me ample cover, the frame feels substantial and the weight is reasonable for carrying around. Opening is quick, and another press gathers the canopy in. The ribs have some give, which I appreciate when the breeze picks up, although I wouldn't treat any handheld umbrella as storm equipment. My small reservation is the closed oval handle. It feels secure in my hand, but I preferred the way a curved handle could simply hang over my forearm. This one doesn't sit there in quite the same way. Not a problem with the umbrella, just a difference I notice in use. It still keeps me dry and folds down to a useful size. For everyday rain I think it's a sound choice. On with the game.

Very happy with the one we got.

Very happy with the one we got. My daughter is five and had been wanting an umbrella of her own for ages. I let her unpack it and she was so excited she wanted it opened straight away. She's had it out over and over since then, mostly just playing, and it still feels nice and solid. I help her put the shaft back down after the button folds the canopy. We've taken it out in the rain twice now and she stayed dry underneath it. It's been a lovely purchase for her.

Sheena Gilbert

The finishing isn't anything special.

I wanted something for unexpected rain, but the folded umbrella is larger than I thought. It looks too big for my bag, so I'll clip the loop handle to the strap instead. The finishing isn't anything special. Still, at what I paid, I'm happy enough with it rather than spending more on an umbrella from a convenience shop.

Cassie Greene

Apparently it gets quite a few compliments, too.

My daughter is in her first year at college and I sent her this umbrella. She is delighted with it and says a wet forecast isn't quite so disappointing now she has an excuse to use it. Apparently it gets quite a few compliments, too. She likes the coverage for herself and can squeeze a friend alongside for a short walk. She hasn't had it out in much wind, so I can't say anything about that part. For what I spent, I'm pleased with the purchase--and more importantly, she really enjoys having it.

Billy Lewis

A lovely umbrella for walks with my little girl.

A lovely umbrella for walks with my little girl. The opening action is smooth and the canopy gives her lots of room underneath. She's two and a half and loves having an umbrella along. I do the closing and packing away for her. It seems sturdy enough to keep using as she gets bigger. Very cute.

Bruce Morrison

Now we just need rain!

My 3-year-old loves umbrellas and wanted one she could have a go with, instead of wrestling with the big ones. We only received this today, so durability is something I'll have to see about. Everything looks neat and it opens with a quick press (I do supervise, and help pack it away). She can hold the handle comfortably while I keep a hand on it. Very sweet seeing her so excited. Now we just need rain!

I'm sticking with Haven for umbrellas now.

I'm sticking with Haven for umbrellas now. Solid quality without spending a fortune, and the push button opening is something I wouldn't want to be without. Surprises me how much easier that makes things. We keep several at the office as well so nobody has to head out into the rain without one.

Anita Mann

So, the good

I had picked up a new golf bag with a tube meant for an umbrella. After getting rained on a couple of times it seemed sensible to put something in it.So, the good; This black umbrella gives decent coverage and doesn't feel particularly heavy. Not the huge spread of a full golf umbrella, but enough to keep the rain off me. The button opening is handy when the weather changes and you are trying to get yourself sorted out. It also folds down quite short, which was part of the attraction. The bad; Short doesn't mean narrow. Once the fabric and ribs are gathered together it is too thick to slide into the umbrella tube on my bag. That is my reason for taking a star off, as carrying it there was the idea in the first place. Maybe the tube is too small, maybe I expected too much from the folded size. I also find packing it away a bit of a fiddle. Pressing the button closes the canopy without any trouble, then the shaft needs a firm push by hand to reset it. I wasn't expecting that extra step. Gathering the fabric neatly afterwards takes me a moment as well. It works as it should and does a good job in rain, just not quite as convenient for the bag as I had hoped.

Dalton Harrison

It's a GREAT umbrella, looks smart and feels properly sturdy.

I was doubtful about the price at first but my son wanted his own umbrella so much that I decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did! It's a GREAT umbrella, looks smart and feels properly sturdy. The loop handle is a nice little detail too. He's delighted to have his own, and I'm very happy with what I paid for! :-)

Rebecca Curry

Boston can be so breezy that taking an umbrella out sometimes…

Boston can be so breezy that taking an umbrella out sometimes seems pointless. I wanted something I could actually hold comfortably when walking in the rain, and this one has been a good choice. The frame has some give to it and hasn't felt awkward when a breeze catches it. I can keep my head and shoulders covered while still holding it high enough to see ahead. It isn't going to stop every bit of rain blowing sideways, but my clothes and hair have stayed much drier. My hair still gets tossed around, of course, but I'll take that over getting soaked!

Dale Acevedo

Happy to recommend!!

I've been using it for a few months, usually on the walk to work a couple of times a week. It has been dependable and seems put together properly. Small niggle is that it can move about in the sleeve if I don't hold it at the end, but not enough to spoil it. People do notice it....I've had a few comments and the odd puzzled glance. Not the smallest thing in my bag, but I like the look and it's worth carrying. Happy to recommend!!

Dwayne Riddle

It arrived quickly.

My 3 year old son spotted this umbrella and liked it straight away! The blue is cheerful, which is nice when the shops near us seem to have all the fun choices for girls and dull ones for boys. It arrived quickly. Happy to recommend :)(It is still an umbrella, not a toy, whatever the page calls it. I can't really judge long term strength until its had more outings, but five stars from me for now).

Virginia Massey

I hadn't realised an automatic umbrella could be so handy.

Looks just like the photo. I hadn't realised an automatic umbrella could be so handy. Click, it opens; another click folds the canopy. The pole still has to be pressed in by hand, and that takes a fairly firm push, so worth knowing if your hands aren't strong. I'm 184cm and fairly broad, but the open size gives me comfortable coverage. For me it's been excellent.

Bryce Henderson

Nice to have something that feels like a REAL umbrella again.

Had enough of bargain umbrellas that barely did anything once it actually rained. This one gives proper cover and looks nice doing it. Still simple to put up and carry, not some great awkward thing.....and people have actually commented on it. That doesnt usually happen with my umbrellas! Nice to have something that feels like a REAL umbrella again.Im thinking of these for the Christmas presents this year.

Jaime Roth

This umbrella was an excellent find.

Finding costume pieces at a sensible price isn't always easy, especially when local shops want so much for them. I look at color, size, appearance and whether something will stand up to being used rather than just looking nice. This umbrella was an excellent find. The pink looks right and the size and style were what I expected from the pictures. It has handled three weeks of rehearsals plus an eight-week run of the show, so I'm very happy with how it's lasted. A reasonably priced piece that actually does what I needed is always welcome, and I'd happily choose it again!!!

Miranda Summers

it looks very nice, feels solid and gives him good coverage.

My husband has been using this one. it looks very nice, feels solid and gives him good coverage. The loop handle and overall weight are a bit much for my hand, but he's comfortable with it. A nice choice if you prefer something substantial rather than feather light.

Cindy Brewer

So far I'm pleased, though a proper rainy outing will tell me more.

I've been looking for a folding umbrella that gives me decent cover without being an awkward thing to pack. This one seems to suit, and I like the cream white. I came across it while doing errands and decided to try it. My g'kids are in the northwest, so rain is something I have to think about when visiting. It fits in my carry-on, which helps. The frame looks quite sturdy when opened and it feels reassuring to hold. So far I'm pleased, though a proper rainy outing will tell me more.

Loretta Cole

They feel quite sturdy too.

I ordered several of these for the April showers display in our church preschool lobby. We hung them upside down, with paper raindrops between them, and it made a really sweet decoration. They feel quite sturdy too. When the display comes down I expect my granddaughters will be happy to have the umbrellas to use.

Gail Austin

Something with a softer grip would improve it a lot.

A star off because of the handle:The umbrella itself feels well thought out, but the part you actually hold could be more comfortable. The closed oval loop isn't quite a natural fit for my hand. Something with a softer grip would improve it a lot. The button does work fine, I would just appreciate a bigger area for my thumb. There's nothing wrong with how it shelters me from the rain, which makes these small details more noticeable somehow. So much attention has gone into the canopy, why not the handle as well? That's the part we're touching the whole time, it really affects how the entire thing feels.
