Winter in my part of Northern CA can mean rain day after day, not…
Winter in my part of Northern CA can mean rain day after day, not just a quick shower. I wanted an umbrella I wouldn't have to keep replacing, after too many cheap ones that barely lasted. This has handled the wet days and gusts I've been out in without fuss, and I'm glad I spent a little more this time :-)

3) Kid happy with it?
It's being used by my kid, so my checklist is simple:1) Keeps the rain off?2) Takes normal use?3) Kid happy with it?Answers:1) Yes, does the job.2) Four months in and still fine.3) Very happy.Honestly, I haven't got a longer list of requirements for something they carry in the rain.

Somehow I expected a larger umbrella.
Somehow I expected a larger umbrella. Not sure why really, opening it up it seemed a fairly normal size. Should have looked more carefully at the dimensions before choosing it.Still, it feels well made and has kept me dry without any fuss. If it does what I need, what else do I want?

Worth spending a little extra.
Worth spending a little extra. Walking around the city can be miserable when the wind gets between buildings, and I've had plenty of umbrellas that weren't much help. This one has stayed steady in the showers I've used it in, I don't feel like I'm fighting it every step. A little weight in the bag, yes, but I'm glad it's there when the weather changes.

It makes a lovely bit of shade and looks nice doing it.
I can't get over how much I like this umbrella! It makes a lovely bit of shade and looks nice doing it. I wanted something to keep the sun off, not just something for wet days, and this has been a very good choice. Where i live the sunshine gets relentless, so i really should have thought of carrying one sooner. I expect it will be with me a lot over summer! I'd seen comments about compact umbrellas being too small, but that hasn't been my experience here. I'm 6 feet tall and there's enough cover for my face and upper body without having to carry a great enormous umbrella. For something you carry about yourself, that seems a sensible balance to me. The finish feels good and it folds down to a sensible size. Very happy with both the shade and the quality, and I'd certainly recommend it.

Goes up so easily with the button.
I have three grandkids under four and umbrellas have made rain something they look forward to. Now they ask to go out as soon as it starts. They were outside playing with them for ages yesterday. This one went to our little prancer and she is delighted with it. She manages carrying it with me nearby, and there's enough coverage for me when I borrow it too. Goes up so easily with the button. Update: After 19 months it still has no damage, even though it comes out for every rainy spell.

Beige is just the sort of colour I was looking for.
Beige is just the sort of colour I was looking for. I haven't actually taken this out in the rain yet, so this is mostly first impressions. Folded, it's manageable, though not something that disappears into a tiny bag. Opened up, there is a surprising amount of cover. I do wonder how easy it'll be to thread through a busy city pavement with it. Still, I'd rather have that coverage than be dripping wet.

I am undecided about that shape compared with a hooked handle, though
After all the heavy rain lately, this black umbrella has earned its place by the door. Friends have commented on it, and I can see why: a neat appearance, a substantial feel and enough coverage that I am not constantly moving it from one shoulder to the other. The open size is less convenient at an entrance with nowhere sheltered to stand. (There is probably a knack to dealing with a bag, a door and a wet umbrella all at once, which I have apparently not acquired.) Being able to shut the canopy with the button helps, although the shaft still needs pushing back down by hand. Something I appreciate more than expected is having a shorter umbrella to put aside indoors, rather than a long one that I am forever trying to balance in a corner. The enclosed oval handle is easy to keep hold of when my hands are damp. I am undecided about that shape compared with a hooked handle, though; carrying an umbrella once the rain stops is a different matter from holding it up while it rains. Not a major criticism, just something I notice. What I would still welcome is a cover that catches the drips immediately on coming indoors. The supplied sleeve is useful for storage, but I let the umbrella dry before putting it away.

The shade from this is just what I needed.
The shade from this is just what I needed. I have Lupus and direct sun can cause me problems, so I bought it to have shade with me rather than relying on finding somewhere covered. It reaches over my arms nicely while I hold it. My only small disappointment is the blue looked a little brighter in the pictures; in person it's more subdued, which is the reason for four stars. Still a nice colour, just not quite the shade I'd imagined. It arrived in good condition and I've found it straightforward to use. For carrying my own bit of shade about I'm glad I bought it.

Opens easily, feels strong, and I'm keeping it!
FANTASTIC umbrella - I wanted decent coverage without paying a fortune and this has worked out great! I hate when rain runs straight off onto my trousers, AND I wanted some room for my little pup beside me on our walks. This gives me much better shelter than the tiny umbrellas I've used. The only thing I'd alter is the folded length - it isn't the smallest thing to carry once it's down. I can see the sturdier build takes some room, but a little shorter would be handier to carry? Still, that's not enough to make me part with it. Opens easily, feels strong, and I'm keeping it!

I like not having to carry a full length umbrella everywhere.
We picked up five of these in Boston about four years back and they've been used a lot since. They've come along to New York and Scotland and have been very useful in the rain. I like not having to carry a full length umbrella everywhere. Ended up getting a couple more after we lost some, which was our own doing. One thing I've learned, keep yours with you in a restaurant rather than in that shared stand by the door. Somebody walks away with the good one and you're left staring at a cheap substitute. Not making that mistake again.
Brett Fowler
A lovely umbrella (and a decent size)!
A lovely umbrella (and a decent size)! Looks well put together too. I was hoping for a paler blue, so the colour wasn't quite what I'd pictured, but it was for a table display at my business and actually worked beautifully with the other blue shades. Everything tied together nicely in the end.
Danny Pittman
This one has made me very happy.
I'd had enough of folding umbrellas that barely reach past your shoulders. I needed one with button opening and canopy closing, small enough for my bag but with enough coverage in the rain. This one has made me very happy. Opens out to a proper sized umbrella and feels really well put together. So pleased I chose this one!
Emily Randall
New York's breezy streets haven't given this one much trouble so far.
New York's breezy streets haven't given this one much trouble so far. Other people are busy wrestling with their umbrellas and I'm still getting on with my walk. Makes a wet day feel rather less miserable... might even catch me humming to myself. Can't complain!
Hayden Luna
Feels solid and the beige looks lovely.
Ordering an umbrella without handling it first made me a little doubtful; pictures don't tell you whether it will feel awkward or open properly... This one turned out great! Feels solid and the beige looks lovely. The handle is interesting too. It's an enclosed oval loop rather than the usual curved hook, and sits comfortably in my hand. Glad I took the chance.

Suppose the dry weather couldn't last forever.
Ordering an umbrella felt like admitting defeat after five years in Southern California.Suppose the dry weather couldn't last forever. Still, this one seems pretty sturdy and there's enough room over me and my bag, so it does the important part. Gusts can make it a handful, which stops me being completely enthusiastic. Maybe something else handles wind better, I don't know, but for the rain I've actually needed it in this is a sensible umbrella.
Jacqueline Carson
I stayed comfortably dry.
Waiting for buses is much nicer with an umbrella that holds steady and still fits in my briefcase afterwards. Several rainy commutes in, this has been just what I needed. A particularly blustery downpour gave it a decent test and it coped without turning inside out. I stayed comfortably dry. Worth having if your journey to work involves standing out in the weather.

We chose pink and I'm pleased with it.
Until I started shopping for an umbrella, I hadn't really considered how useful automatic opening would be. I'm usually carrying too much already when the rain starts, so not having to fiddle with a manual one is a big plus. I've had other push button umbrellas, but this one seems particularly sturdy once it's up.
My 10 year old asked whether the open size meant straight across or following the curve over the top. I hadn't thought about that either! Whatever the measuring method, there's a useful amount of cover compared with how small it looks folded. It isn't a giant golf umbrella, which is actually better for carrying around.
Getting out of the minivan with a baby in an infant seat, a diaper bag, my purse and another bag is where I really appreciate it. Being able to get it open before moving away from the door makes the whole juggling act easier. It kept the rain off me and the baby, and I wasn't struggling to get the umbrella ready while everything got soaked.
I've used it on windy days as well and have been pleased with how it handles them. The oval handle has also been comfortable during a rainy baseball game, when you're holding it for ages.
We chose pink and I'm pleased with it. I'd certainly consider buying one for those relatives who are so hard to find anything useful for.
Michelle Bruce
Not this one!
Downtown Pittsburgh gets wind from all directions, especially when you're already trying to dodge the rain. Some umbrellas are more of a wrestling match than any help. Not this one! I keep a proper grip and tip it towards the rain, and it gives me good cover without feeling like a nuisance to carry

This is the one I take when the forecast says light rain.
This is the one I take when the forecast says light rain. There's a much larger umbrella at home for a real downpour, but for the usual damp walk to and from the office this does the job. It goes into my messenger bag easily, which matters more to me than having masses of coverage. If the weather clears before I leave work, I can put it away and walk home without something extra in my hand.It looks pretty smart too, just a simple gray umbrella that doesn't feel like an afterthought. Happy with it :)
Trevor Russell
I didn't expect a folding umbrella to feel so substantial.
I didn't expect a folding umbrella to feel so substantial. it works well. The oval handle is more noticeable than I like, though, which probably sounds ridiculous when talking about an umbrella. It mostly stays in the closet now and I reach for a plainer one when I'm going out.
Seth Zimmerman
She hardly let it go after opening it.
All those birthday toys, and my granddaughter wanted to carry around her new 'brella' instead. Her grandparents (me and the hubby) were pretty tickled that our present got so much attention. She hardly let it go after opening it. A bit more than we meant to spend on an umbrella, yes, but seeing her so delighted made it worthwhile.
Joseph Franklin
Sturdy, and a generous size once opened.
Sturdy, and a generous size once opened. I'm 5'2" and it gives me enough cover that I'm not constantly stepping beyond the edge with every stride. The gray is easy to see, too, which I appreciate when other people are coming towards me. You do need to keep it high enough to see ahead, unlike a transparent umbrella. The button makes opening very simple. Closing the canopy is automatic as well, then you press the telescoping stem down yourself. That last part needed a little practice, but now I find it straightforward. I'm really pleased with how practical it is. Would certainly recommend!

Haven't had it out in rain yet but the frame looks reassuring.
Haven't had it out in rain yet but the frame looks reassuring. keep in mind it isn't featherlight, so anyone with sore hands might want to consider that. Open size looks comfortable for one larger person, maybe two slim people squeezed together for a short walk. Seems well put together.

A lovely buy...
Well, this has been with me for over a year now and came out again the other night! Still really pleased with it. I wanted a gray umbrella with a decent spread, without having a long thing to store. This opens to a useful size and folds neatly away in the car or at work. A lovely buy... especially for what I paid.
Bryan Graham
Just an umbrella that works, which is what he wanted.
Pink suits my husband perfectly, apparently no other colour is worth considering. This is a plain, practical folding umbrella for the normal California winter rain. I can't comment on serious storms since we hardly get those here. He's happy because it's useful, no fuss an nothing complicated to fiddle with. Just an umbrella that works, which is what he wanted. And if it ever needs replacing, the price makes that a fairly painless thought.

My mom borrowed my green one and said it felt sturdy.
My mom borrowed my green one and said it felt sturdy. She liked the handle and being able to open it or close the canopy with a button, so I bought another for her. She's happy with hers. There's a little sleeve as well. Mine fits in my larger purse when folded, though it's a bit heavier than other compact umbrellas I've had. It feels solid enough that I don't really mind the extra weight.

These have worked out great for our fishing trips on the lake.
These have worked out great for our fishing trips on the lake. Our aluminum boat has no cover overhead, so having an umbrella to hold makes sitting there a lot nicer. The size gives us a good patch of shade without being awkward to carry! When there's a bite we close the umbrellas and lay them aside, deal with the fish and get the hooks baited again. Then it's back to holding them up while we wait. Simple arrangement but it suits the way we fish perfectly!!!

No throwing another umbrella away that afternoon.
A friend gave me this a few weeks back, after my old bargain umbrella gave up in some wind. I spend so much time in the car that umbrellas are usually an emergency purchase for me. I'll need to walk somewhere and grab whatever cheap one is nearby, without giving it much thought. This one is a definite step up from those. Getting it open with a button, and having the same button close the canopy, seemed ridiculously clever to someone used to wrestling with umbrellas (easily entertained, apparently). You still push the stem down yourself afterwards, which is fine. The bit that really sold me was a gust turning it inside out. My first thought was, well, that didn't last long. But the flexible ribs let me turn it back into shape and it carried on doing its job. No throwing another umbrella away that afternoon. I honestly hadn't realised they could bounce back like that, pretty nice surprise. I'm not expecting it to survive absolutely everything, but it seems like something I can keep for a good while. The bigger risk is probably me forgetting where I've put it in the car. Now I've found where to get another, I might buy one for someone who spends less of their life driving everywhere =)

A useful little folding umbrella.
A useful little folding umbrella. It goes in my purse without a struggle. I used to prefer manual ones because there's less to fuss with, but the push button on this has been handy. Needs a firm push to shorten it afterwards, which is my only small niggle. Fair price, feels well made and keeps me dry. Worth recommending!
Zoe Vasquez
It came in excellent condition and the button works smoothly.
Received this as a Christmas gift and I absolutely love it. The clean design looks beautiful and the whole umbrella has a lovely substantial feel. It came in excellent condition and the button works smoothly. Honestly it's the sort of present that makes me look forward to a rainy day

My one reservation is the oval handle.
At 5'7" I find this a sensible size to hold, even with heels on. There is enough cover for me and the bags I am carrying, without feeling like I am carrying something enormous. It has coped with gusts during rain so far and doesn't weigh my arm down. Two people can get underneath if they stay close, but I mostly use it on my own. I still need to shut it before going through a doorway. My one reservation is the oval handle. It gives me somewhere secure to hold but the shape isn't quite as comfortable in my hand as I expected, particularly once my hands are wet. I end up changing my grip after a while. Nothing that stops me using it, and the coverage is why I bought it, but the handle is the part I'd change.
Theresa Lowe
Much nicer than baking in the sun!
I'd bought it with wet weather in mind, but our weekend ballgame stayed dry so my husband and I shared it for shade instead. Worked beautifully! Neither of us is exactly tiny, and we could sit close together underneath without blocking the breeze. Much nicer than baking in the sun!
Karla Knight
Quick to open AND keeps me dry --- that's what I wanted!
If I can manage not to leave it somewhere, this one's a keeper. So handy around the city, especially when you're squeezing through busy streets and need to put it away quickly. My friends and coworkers have all been asking about it! Quick to open AND keeps me dry --- that's what I wanted!

The part that has earned the most comments is the oval handle.
Each May I like to give an umbrella to the high school graduates heading off to college, my own children included. Something they can put in a book bag is much more useful than a huge umbrella they leave behind. These fit that purpose nicely. Opening with a button is helpful when they're carrying books, and the same control closes the canopy, with the stem then compressed by hand. The part that has earned the most comments is the oval handle. They like the secure grip and being able to hang it up through the loop. The ones I've given have coped well with our Midwest rain and breezy days. Practical graduation presents, and I would happily recommend them.

Having some shade I can carry with me has made a real difference.
I do archaeological work in the desert in eastern California, where summer sun is no small issue. Having some shade I can carry with me has made a real difference. This feels well built and gives me a decent shaded area without being a huge umbrella to pack around. The folded size is practical for taking along with the rest of my things. There is still a tug at my hand when a breeze gets going, but it hasn't made it difficult to use in normal conditions. I like that it folds down when we're finished rather than being another long item to carry. For this sort of outdoor work I'm very satisfied with it.
Allison Randolph
Very easy to use & feels like a good purchase.
I had an umbrella I loved & accidently left it in the shopping cart. Went back within a few minutes & of course it had disappeared. After looking around for a replacement I ended up with this one, & I'm so glad I did! It's pretty enough that people have asked where I found it, even the children notice it when I pass. The button makes the canopy pop open & then gather back in...so convenient when you're carrying things. Very easy to use & feels like a good purchase. Thank you for an umbrella I actually enjoy taking out!

A really useful gift for this stage of life.
School pick up in the rain is awkward enough without a 2yo on your hip and another child waiting to come out. Someone gave me this umbrella and being able to open it with one button has made that bit SO much simpler. I can get it over us without wrestling with the frame while the little one hangs on. It gives me and the toddler decent shelter, and I can keep my kindergartener close for that short walk back to the car. We still have to bunch together, this isn't a giant family umbrella, but it's much less of a juggling act. It has felt steady in the blustery showers we've had at pickup too. Then it folds to a size I can actually put away. A really useful gift for this stage of life.
Taylor Dodson
it does need room when open.
the umbrella feels well made, and does what I expected, but I didn't think about the space around me. took it to an outdoor weekend convention, people quite close together, so I was forever apologising and moving it aside. it does need room when open. still glad to have it, but will watch where I use it.
Alexandria Hess
Really pleased with this one!
GREAT umbrella - I wanted decent coverage at a good price, especially for taking my little pup out when it's raining! There is enough room for me, and if he stays close he gets some shelter too. Much better than trying to keep us under my tiny old one. Only thing I'd alter is the way you finish closing it - the canopy folds with the button, but pushing the telescoping section back in takes a firm shove and I'd prefer a lighter action. That's just something to get used to, not a reason to leave it behind. Really pleased with this one!
Wendy Vaughan
This has been reassuringly sturdy in the rain and covers me well.
After too many little umbrellas turning inside out, I wanted one that felt more substantial. This has been reassuringly sturdy in the rain and covers me well. There is a bit more weight to carry than with my old ones, but I'll take that over feeling like it might fold up on me.
Rebecca Blake
Best compact umbrella I've had.
Lost the one I'd been carrying for a year and went straight back for the same again. Best compact umbrella I've had. Tough feeling. Neatly made. Looks good too. One press collapses the canopy before I step inside, no wrestling with wet fabric in the doorway. Not a giant umbrella, but a sensible amount of cover from something that folds.
Gabriel Burgess
I needed a replacement after losing my last umbrella.
I needed a replacement after losing my last umbrella. This opens wider than I expected for a folding one, and people have noticed it on my morning walk to the subway. So far it's stayed the right way round and kept me dry. I tend to grip a little higher up the shaft instead of right at the loop.
Ross Petty
The frame feels firm with all those flexible ribs.
The build of these umbrellas is excellent, much better than I expected. Opened up there is generous cover, enough for two if you stay close. The frame feels firm with all those flexible ribs. Folded it goes comfortably into my backpack, and at this price I would happily get another couple.
Amber Roberson
So far, this one has coped pretty well with wind.
I wanted to quit buying another umbrella every few months and get something more solid. So far, this one has coped pretty well with wind. It is a bit bulky folded, true, but a good size opened, so that is both good and bad. The automatic opening and canopy closing are handy. What I wish is you could open again immediately after closing the canopy. You have to press the extended shaft down by hand to reset it first, which is normal but quite trouble some when getting on and off a packed bus. Gray is fine, I just wish it was a little less plain looking.
Andre Meyer
Nicely built and good looking as well.
Caught a sudden spell of cold rain on my way into work, with enough gusts to make walking awkward. A coworker noticed me battling my way to the door. The umbrella seemed far less bothered than I was, which made me laugh. I felt like the bit most likely to take off. Nicely built and good looking as well.
Jodi Watts
The frame feels strong, even when the wind picks up.
The frame feels strong, even when the wind picks up. I love being able to open it and bring the canopy down with a button. The one downside is that it's heavier than you'd expect from a compact umbrella. I'm not too bothered by that though, because there's decent coverage and it has kept me dry when the rain really comes down.
Tanner Keith
For a mum doing that rainy wait it is very handy.
Two boys in elementary school means I spend a fair bit of time at the bus stop. They can't take umbrellas on the bus, and carrying several back home was getting tiresome. This is easy to take along and gives me a good dry spot while we wait. I can hold it over the boys until they get aboard, then fold it for the walk home. Much nicer than juggling everyone's umbrellas afterwards. For a mum doing that rainy wait it is very handy. May get our crossing guard one too.
Sharon Mack
It feels really well made and has a look that suits me.
I'm not letting my fraternity brothers know where i found this umbrella, they'll all want the same one! It feels really well made and has a look that suits me. If you're after a useful umbrella that you actually enjoy carrying rather than just grabbing any old thing, this is a very good one, as far as i'm concerned.
Brandy Stephens
this was a sturdy umbrella and I liked the blue.
this was a sturdy umbrella and I liked the blue. Still managed to leave it on the train one day. A few days later I saw someone carrying one just like it, but she told me she'd bought hers. A funny coincidence, though there wasn't much I could say. Oh well, not worth getting worked up over an umbrella. It was a little short on coverage for my backpack anyway, even though it kept most of me dry.
