She need an umbrella for school and picked this one.

My granddaughters aren't alike, one's for flashy things and the youngest is quiet. She need an umbrella for school and picked this one. It rained at the weekend and she wanted to try it right then, outside before any of us grown ups got there to help. That was her playing with it finished, now it stays with the school things. She's pleased with it and I didn't have to spend too much either.

Carrying an umbrella isn't, though.

Rain is a pretty regular part of life here in Seattle. Carrying an umbrella isn't, though. There seems to be a certain local pride in just getting wet, and an umbrella is usually taken as a sign you're visiting. My problem is the mile I walk each way for work, because I also read along the way. Keeping a book readable matters more to me than looking like a proper Seattle resident. The little folding umbrellas have been my usual solution, and I tend to get through several in a year. They're handy right up until a gust leaves the thin frame bent into some shape that isn't an umbrella anymore. The Haven felt considerably more substantial when I first opened it. The framework feels sturdy without being awkward to carry, and the flexible ribs have stood up well to the breezes I've encountered. More importantly for my particular use, I've been able to keep reading without the pages getting soaked. It feels like a useful step up from the tiny umbrellas. I also appreciate how straightforward it is to use. A button opens it, and pressing the button again folds the canopy down; then you push the shaft back in by hand. Wrapped up, it makes a neat bundle. Open, there's noticeably more room than under my old little umbrellas, but I'm not taking up the whole sidewalk either. Its a comfortable size for holding in one hand while the book occupies the other. My reservation is the length after everything is folded. At around sixteen inches, it's still quite a long object compared with the mini ones I was used to stuffing into my backpack. I have to make room for this rather than just drop it into whatever space is left. That's the tradeoff, I suppose, for having something that feels less disposable when the weather gets breezy. Overall I'm very pleased with how it has worked out.

Had this a few weeks and I love how it looks!

Had this a few weeks and I love how it looks! Small enough to take along but opens out to a decent size. The button is quick for opening and collapsing the canopy, then I shorten it by hand. So far the wind hasn't turned it over. Managed to leave mine in a bar last night, entirely my own stupidity :) Another is on order, hopefully I'll keep hold of this one :P

Used it last week and...

Rain doesn't automatically end a round of golf for me, so I wanted a folding umbrella I could bring along. Used it last week and... no complaints at all. It gave me good cover while walking between shots and didn't feel flimsy in the breeze. Not a huge golf canopy, just a practical umbrella that did what I needed.

for ordinary rain I have been entirely satisfied.

After buying too many cheap umbrellas, I finally took some time to read up before choosing another. I wanted a frame that felt substantial and a handle I could hold comfortably, not just the lowest price. This has proved a sensible choice. The fabric sits neatly over the frame, and the whole thing feels more reassuring than the little umbrellas I used to grab without thinking. The loop handle took a little getting used to, but I like having something definite to grip. There is enough coverage for me without having to carry a full length umbrella around. I don't expect any handheld umbrella to be a shelter in extreme weather; for ordinary rain I have been entirely satisfied. The included sleeve is a useful touch for putting it away after drying. It is still worth comparing prices before buying rather than assuming the first price is the best. Would make a practical present as well. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to move on from flimsy pocket umbrellas.

Marisa Farrell

For something to carry along, it's a good umbrella.

I didn't buy mine here, but wanted to add my experience. I have the beige version and it has been a dependable little umbrella. The button gets it open promptly, and gusts haven't flipped it over on me. Coverage is the one thing to keep in mind. It shelters one person well enough for normal rain (I've carried it around town through some pretty unpleasant weather). For a long stretch outside with rain blowing sideways, I wouldn't expect it to keep every bit of you dry. That's more about the compact size than a fault with it. For something to carry along, it's a good umbrella.

The umbrella matches the pictures

The umbrella matches the pictures; a neat, carefully finished design rather than anything fussy. For the money, the construction is better than I expected. I looked at about four other compact umbrellas in shops before choosing this one, and this had the nicest finish (especially around the canopy seams). The oval handle is plainer than the rest of the design, but overall it is the best looking and most solid of the ones I considered.

Love how smart this umbrella looks when I bring it out!

Love how smart this umbrella looks when I bring it out! Feels sturdy and keeps those sudden Florida downpours off me!! LOL...my wife or son can squeeze alongside for a quick dash, though it is snug for two. It's not one of those giant golf umbrellas, but I'm quite happy to be seen carrying it.

Kellie Jimenez

Go on, allow yourself a decent umbrella.

Costs more than the flimsy ones and there is a bit of weight to it, but I'm completely sold. It feels properly put together, opens without a wrestling match, and has kept me dry on the commute. My black umbrella has somehow become the respectable member of my collection. The little emergency umbrellas lurking in the cupboard should probably feel embarrassed. I've even had admiring comments from fellow commuters, which is an odd achievement for something whose job is keeping water off my head. You could keep buying the cheapest thing available, or get something you actually enjoy using. Go on, allow yourself a decent umbrella. Just don't let the satisfaction go to your head and start announcing your arrival at the station like a weather-defying superhero. There are limits.

We've only reached May 1st and it's 75 degrees, but heat is already a real problem for me. I spent a while choosing between this and a more decorative umbrella, and being able to put this one in my purse decided it for me. So far it's been out in plenty of sunshine and a little breeze, and standing under it makes me noticeably more comfortable. I may still get a larger umbrella for when I'm at home and want a wider patch of shade. There hasn't been enough wind for me to say much about that side of it, but for the sun I would certainly recommend it.I do wish the green looked a little prettier, purely a matter of taste as I like things with a bit more charm. It looks more understated than I expected (actually a good thing), so I'm not unhappy about that. The plain look is a small issue when it is doing such a good job of helping me cope outside.

Derrick Rich

I love this unbrella.

I love this unbrella. The blue is so pretty, and there's enough canopy around my shoulders that I'm not constantly shifting it to stay dry. I hold it high enough to see where I'm going, which works fine even with the generous cover. Makes me wonder why I put up with my smaller umbrellas for so long -- this is much nicer to use. Only drawback is the weight when I'm carrying it for ages, especially in wind, my wrist does notice it after a while.

Yvonne Horn

My hair appreciated that too

For seven weeks in Thailand this went everywhere with me, for shade as much as showers. It fitted my medium purse; the grip was comfortable even when I had it up for a while. Not a fashion statement maybe, but standing beneath it was nicer than wearing a hat in the heat. My hair appreciated that too

Joanne Ellison

It's also thicker around when folded than my usual compact umbrella.

It's handled the rain fine so far, but I don't find it very convenient for walking around the city. Passing someone else carrying an umbrella means lifting my arm awkwardly high to get mine above theirs. Yet there isn't enough coverage to keep my partner and me completely dry together, so extra room for one person? I guess? It's also thicker around when folded than my usual compact umbrella. I can get it into my purse without much trouble, but I REALLY notice the additional weight. Leaving it in the car for the walk across to the office would be a better use for it. For getting around busy sidewalks, though, three stars from me. When I've got another umbrella handy this is usually the one that stays home.

Madeline Harmon

Nice to have something she can take outside herself.

My mother is in assisted living and likes sitting outside in her electric wheelchair. She sometimes stays in the sunshine longer than she means to. I got her this to hold for some shade and she says it makes sitting out more comfortable. Nice to have something she can take outside herself.

Helen Bradford

I wasn't getting rain down my neck or all over my shoulders.

The umbrella arrived while it was absolutely pouring, and of course I had an errand to do outside! Immediate test ... and it came through nicely. Quite tidy to carry folded, but open it up and there's a surprising amount of cover. I wasn't getting rain down my neck or all over my shoulders. The one thing that takes getting used to is putting it away. The button shuts the canopy, then you need a proper push to compress the telescoping section. That last push takes some strength, but once it's reset it's ready to spring up again!

Christina Guerrero

Button is easy for him to work.

Quite a smell at first! We let it stand open for a couple days and that went away. Button is easy for him to work. you still push the shaft back in by hand after it folds. He has figured out the catch with umbrellas though, you need one hand to hold it and that hand can't be doing other things. He wants to drag his wagon around and pick up worms when it rains. So guess who ends up holding the umbrella. He likes it, i carry it.

Margaret Vang

In ordinary rain this has been great.

A rainy city is a fairly good place to try an umbrella, and I held off reviewing this until I'd carried it for about six months.Overall, I'm really pleased! There is a qualification, which is that I think it's worth being realistic about what a compact umbrella can cover. In ordinary rain this has been great. During a couple of hours walking around town in a proper downpour, I still ended up with wet legs, particularly when the rain was coming sideways. The canopy can't shelter every bit of you. That doesn't make it a bad umbrella, but it isn't the same experience as standing under a huge one. For steady everyday rainfall, or those days when the sky looks undecided, I'm happy to have this along. If it's already absolutely pouring before I leave, I'll reach for something larger. I chose green and am delighted with the colour. It's a welcome change from the sea of dark umbrellas without being painfully bright. And if you're someone who notices how you look underneath one (the strange creature reflected in a shop window might actually be you), this one doesn't look silly. The black underside is a detail I hadn't thought much about beforehand, but I rather like it. The button operation is probably my favourite part. Being able to open it quickly and collapse the canopy before boarding a bus or train is genuinely useful, especially when other people are trying to get past. You do still compress the telescoping section yourself afterward. Nothing complicated about that. Size-wise, it strikes a good balance for me. Small enough to bring along, but not one of those miniature umbrellas that seems to shelter your hairstyle and little else! The oval loop handle is comfortable to hold and is part of the umbrella itself, rather than something dangling from its cover. The sleeve is handy too, and putting it away hasn't turned into a wrestling match. After this much use, I'm glad I chose it.

Hunter Schneider

She is pleased with it and I am pleased I chose it.

I bought this for my Mom at Christmas because she finds ordinary umbrellas difficult to manage. A press of the button gets it open, and another gathers the canopy before she pushes the stem in. Much easier for her to use. The flexible ribs seem a sensible idea for our rainy, breezy days. She is pleased with it and I am pleased I chose it.

Tanner Rangel

After using mine, I picked up another to give a friend.

After using mine, I picked up another to give a friend. There is no reason a rainy day umbrella has to be boring, is there? This one looks cheerful and does its job too. One press spreads it out and another folds the canopy away. It is one of those purchases I feel good about whenever I take it out.

Shari Wright

My previous umbrella seemed determined to turn itself inside out…

My previous umbrella seemed determined to turn itself inside out whenever there was a bit of wind, which was getting embarrassing. I chose this hoping for less of a performance and so far that's what I've had. It also gives me room to keep my bag out of the rain with me.

Eric Roy

To start with, the pink looks nice in person.

City walks are where I usually find out whether an umbrella is any good. Between the tall buildings in Philadelphia, a wet afternoon can turn into quite a battle with whatever you're carrying overhead. I picked this one without a lot of research and have been very happy with it. To start with, the pink looks nice in person. It's a welcome change from that sea of dark umbrellas on the pavement. The closed oval handle also feels solid in my hand and the whole thing looks nicely put together. But that's not really what has impressed me most. On my walks it has kept its shape when the wind picked up, including when a few umbrellas nearby were turning inside out. I stayed dry and didn't have to stop to straighten anything. That's the important part for me. Something to bear in mind - I haven't taken a star away for it, because I think it's the tradeoff with an umbrella that holds its shape. A strong gust can still tug quite hard at your hand. Mine hasn't got away from me, and I get a good hold around the loop, but it isn't as though the wind disappears. If gripping things tightly is difficult for you, that pull is worth considering. Very happy with how it has done otherwise.

Miranda Mccall

Has coped with wind alright too.

You aren't getting a tiny pocket umbrella here, which is probably why it actually covers me and my bag. Somewhere between the little ones that leave half of you wet and the huge ones that feel like you're carrying a jousting lance. Folded, it fits my larger backpack without taking over the whole thing.Construction feels reassuring, fabric has some substance and the button action is smooth. Has coped with wind alright too. A little bulky if you only carry a small bag, though.

Tamara Burton

And I really like the oval loop handle

Just right for Florida's windy showers (though I'm sure we're not the only state with rain that arrives sideways). Mine has stayed the right way round, unlike the flimsy umbrellas I've battled with before. The gray still looks fresh, no fading that I can see. There's enough canopy over me to protect more than the top of my head... shoulders included. And I really like the oval loop handle; it's a smart little detail.

Tim Ali

A nice umbrella for what he needs.

Bought the blue one for my husband and he's been pleased with how sturdy it is. He's a teacher and usually has bags and papers in his hands, so he wanted enough cover to keep those dry as well. This has a useful spread without being awkward for him to carry. The button action is smooth and saves him having to wrestle it open. The fabric and frame both seem strong enough for regular use. I can add more after he's had longer with it, but at the moment there's nothing to complain about. A nice umbrella for what he needs.

Isaac Mcgee

Bigger than a little toy umbrella so we use it together.

Its a really cute umbrella and both my two year old and five year old want a turn with it.I help the little one with the button but he loves carrying it and walking around under it. Its had two months of being handled by the kids and still looks almost new. Bigger than a little toy umbrella so we use it together. For a child who keeps asking for an umbrella this has made mine very happy.

Dave Robbins

not hard once you know what you're doing.

i meant to give this umbrella as a gift and then decided it was staying with me lol. it looks nicer in person and gives me plenty of cover without feeling like some enormous thing to carry. i like the oval loop handle, its a little different but comfortable in my hand.the button pops it open and also folds the fabric down, then you push the shaft back in yourself. not hard once you know what you're doing. i cant say yet how it will be after a lot of use, but the whole thing seems put together well. we dont get loads of rain where i live in southern california, certainly not constant big storms, so im hoping it will be with me a long while. there's enough room to keep me dry and my dog too if he stays close on his lead.

Maxwell Cobb

Anyway, we were glad we'd brought it with us.

I've not written a review before, but after our holiday I thought this deserved one.We had a couple of very wet, gusty days away and my wife and I ended up laughing quite a lot. All around us people were struggling to keep their umbrellas under control, I mean "everybody" seemed to be wrestling with one. We kept ours angled into the breeze and it behaved itself without any drama. It sounds daft getting excited about an umbrella, but not having to fight with it made those rainy walks a lot more fun. Anyway, we were glad we'd brought it with us.

Jackson Barrera

I chose it mainly for shade during the summer.

I chose it mainly for shade during the summer. The button-operated canopy spreads further than I expected from its folded size. There's a little weight to it, which matches the substantial feeling frame. I expect it'll earn its place for rainy days as well as sunny ones.

Anna Wells

Sideways rain in San Francisco is a pain.

Sideways rain in San Francisco is a pain. This has handled those blustery walks better than I expected, AND I can keep my purse tucked under the canopy if I hold it close. It's not the tiniest thing to have with you on the train, even folded, but I'll take that tradeoff for staying dry. Changing rain direction means adjusting it as I go. This umbrella is a keeper!

Diamond Rosario

My husband had his eye on this umbrella and it arrived today.

My husband had his eye on this umbrella and it arrived today. It was packed so TIGHTLY in its cardboard tube that getting it out became quite a performance. There was a fair bit of muttering about the packaging before he finally freed it. After all that, the umbrella itself looks smart, has a pleasant weight and seems nicely made. Hubby is pleased, which rather took the edge off the unpacking complaints. We haven't had a chance to judge it in wind or rain, so those things remain to be seen. For now, a happy husband makes it a good purchase in my book.

Cassie Ashley

I had one last small gift to find for a friend.

Umbrellas aren't glamorous presents, but people do need them and somehow they're always getting misplaced.I had one last small gift to find for a friend. She'd had a favourite patterned umbrella from a trip years back and needed a replacement. This one looked nicely made and the price seemed fair. Something practical that I knew wouldn't just sit unused in a drawer.

Jaime Hurley

Used it around six times so far.

Used it around six times so far. Compact, decent shelter, and fine in the breezes I've met. I don't bother with the sleeve much, just fold it up when dry.5 month update: still going strong after plenty more outings, no complaints with the mechanism or the frame. A good little workhorse...

Franklin Hood

Choosing green turned out to be useful too.

My two roommates and I each got one of these a while ago and they've been great! No grumbles from any of us about how they work. Mine gives me enough room to keep myself and my usual bag out of the rain without being a huge umbrella to carry around. Choosing green turned out to be useful too. Apart from my roommates, hardly anyone around here carries that colour, so it's easy to recognise mine if I've put it down.

Beth Garza

Money well spent as far as I'm concerned.

You can keep buying the cheap stuff and messing about with it, or pay a bit more for something that actually does the job. This one has a proper sturdy feel, enough coverage to keep me dry and hasn't been a nuisance when a breeze picks up. Money well spent as far as I'm concerned.

Carly Gilmore

At 6'8", a tiny umbrella doesn't give me much help.

At 6'8", a tiny umbrella doesn't give me much help. I expect some rain on my legs whatever I carry, but this covers my shoulders properly. We usually get wind along with the rain here, not nice straight showers. So far it's been solid in that weather and still folds into a manageable size, which is a good combination for me.

April Short

The coverage is what made this one worth getting for me.

The coverage is what made this one worth getting for me. I use a wheel chair, and need an umbrella that gives useful shelter in front rather than feeling like most of it is behind my head. This sits well over me when I hold it and there is room over my lap too. Feels solid without being to much to manage. Cream white wasn't the shade I first had in mind, but its grown on me. For the way I use an umbrella this has been a very good purchase.

Jean Hendricks

Have been VERY PLEASED using it!!!

ONE BUTTON takes care of opening & gathering the canopy on my new umbrella. After closing I press the shaft back down by hand. My hand sits nicely inside the loop & the weight is easy to manage. Opens to about 105cm, plenty of cover for me without feeling oversized. Have been VERY PLEASED using it!!!

Kirk Farrell

I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it!

This was for rainy walks taking her brother to school, with my 2 year old daughter wanting her own umbrella.I bought umbrellas for the boys at the same time, so I had a few to look at side by side. This pink one feels the most substantial of them, not like a little toy. It is a proper compact umbrella though, rather than a tiny toddler size, so I handle the button and help her hold it. The canopy gave her plenty of coverage on our ten minute walk and she was dry when we got there. The boys' ones felt lighter in comparison, which is fine, but this seems better put together overall. It has only been outside once so I can't say much about how long it will last. I'm keeping it on a high shelf, not leaving it out for playing with, and we only bring it down when we're actually going out in rain. The pink looks very sweet without needing a character on it.I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it!

Maurice Mccullough

Hopefully it keeps doing well, but it's early days yet.

The umbrella looks really nice and is quite striking (it does get noticed). My main reservation is the material, which feels rather thin. No trouble with it so far and it seems sturdy enough, although I've only taken it out a few times. Hopefully it keeps doing well, but it's early days yet.

Devon Roman

so for my purpose it is a very good umbrella.

I don't want to start an argument with everybody who left a different comment, but I think you have to judge an umbrella against what you need it for. A compact one isn't going to feel like a big golf umbrella, and that doesn't automatically make it poor quality. tell people what you think about the actual design, thats more helpful than announcing that anything small is no good.I read through the comments before buying because I mostly wanted shade. I've been carrying mine for a few weeks in the Texas sun, and having shade move along with you makes a real difference. it's enough for me, not some enormous shelter for a group. I also don't expect to hold it sideways into every gust and have nothing move. For ordinary use I have found it quite manageable. The shade feels comfortable, and once folded it is convenient to take along. so for my purpose it is a very good umbrella. Someone who wants a larger, heavier one may want a different size, but I don't want to carry that around just for myself.

Kaitlyn Aguirre

Simple enough and really nice looking.

So glad I picked this as a gift for my mum. The green is lovely and I can picture her carrying it. It feels like a proper sized umbrella once it's up, not a tiny little canopy. One press and it springs open quickly. Another press gathers the canopy, then you push the pole in to pack it away. Simple enough and really nice looking. I think she's going to be delighted with it!

Jane Carpenter

The stitching looks neat, and the finish around the handle is…

The stitching looks neat, and the finish around the handle is smooth and carefully done. It has a more substantial, refined feel than I expected from a folding umbrella. There is some bulk and weight when carrying it, so it would not be my choice for the smallest everyday bag. For someone who values a well-finished umbrella, however, it is a good option.

Nichole Curry

Only had this a couple of weeks, but it's proving a good umbrella.

Only had this a couple of weeks, but it's proving a good umbrella.Feels solid as soon as you pick it up, everything moving quite neatly together. Opens without a fuss and folds down well. Would have liked a little more cover though, I still find myself ducking my shoulders when the rain comes in at an angle.

Jaime Newton

Rather like bringing a small patch of tree shade along.

Wearing a business suit through a DC summer is not much fun. I'm quite prepared to be the fellow who makes carrying a sun umbrella normal for the office crowd. There is an immediate difference when I step into its shade. Rather like bringing a small patch of tree shade along. Smart looking, and the frame feels solid.

Tammie Horn

I'm happy with it on the whole.

I'm happy with it on the whole. The green looks pretty and it feels solid, though it's heavier than I wanted. The button closes the canopy, but getting the shaft down afterwards needs both hands and a good push. It's nice that a sleeve is included, although getting everything tucked away when it's wet is kinda fiddly. Good umbrella, just not the lightest or easiest to pack up.

Fred Roy

For the money I think it is a very good buy.

After losing my old umbrella I needed another one, and I have to say this has been a great replacement. It feels solid when opened and the button makes it very easy to use, and it folds down neatly when I am finished with it. For the money I think it is a very good buy. I would certainly reccommend it to anybody looking for a dependable everyday umbrella without a lot of fuss. Glad I went with this one.

Bryce Shields

These were Christmas presents for my grown-up son and daughter.

These were Christmas presents for my grown-up son and daughter. Both have city jobs and a walk between public transport and the office, so an umbrella needs to be something they will actually carry. So far these have stood up well, and neither finds the folded size awkward to take along.

Diane Mahoney

It is a good size for me and the button is easy to use.

The pink was what caught my eye to start with. We get plenty of rain here, so I like having something cheerful rather than just another dull umbrella. It is a good size for me and the button is easy to use. Folding the canopy is quick, although shortening the shaft afterwards needs a firmer push (worth knowing that). Once I've gathered the fabric neatly it goes into the carrying sleeve without a struggle. That makes a difference, I don't want to be wrestling a wet umbrella into its cover every time.I would certainly choose this one again!

Glenn Snow

I would certainly recommend it.

I haven't had this out in a truly heavy storm yet, so I can't speak for that, but in the rain and lighter wind I've used it in the frame has felt steady. It is also a good looking umbrella rather than just something practical. The oval handle feels comfortable in my hand and the finish is smooth. Pressing the button to open it is straightforward, and pressing again brings the canopy closed. You still have to compress the telescoping section yourself before putting it away, which hasn't been a problem for me. Folded up, it is a manageable size without feeling flimsy. There is some heft when you pick it up, but I haven't found it tiring to hold. Based on what I've seen so far, I feel comfortable relying on it for normal rainy days. I would certainly recommend it.

Judy Baird

I thought the umbrella was good quality when I tried it.

Got this for my friend who is a musician too. She was so pleased! The plain black looks smart, which she appreciated, and it's something she will actually use.I thought the umbrella was good quality when I tried it. Feels sturdy enough and the push button makes getting it open very easy.
