Small bit of preparation, much nicer trip.

This went into my carry-on since there was room for it in one of the compartments. Such a useful thing to pack! A downpour in La Dordogne in southern France gave it a proper test and I stayed dry. It also got passed around to people who'd left home without an umbrella. Small bit of preparation, much nicer trip. Glad I brought it!

My daughter was SO pleased when this arrived!

My daughter was SO pleased when this arrived! She thinks it looks lovely and gets a good grip round the oval handle. A lot of the children's umbrellas we saw had chunky novelty handles that her small hands struggled with, especially when wet. This one is MUCH simpler for her to hang onto, and she is excited to use it. :)

I walk a lot every day near Seattle, which means an umbrella gets used rather than just sitting in a bag. Seven months in, this one still looks good and works as it did when it was new. It slips into my backpack without getting in the way on a dry day, but opened out it gives me plenty of cover. The opening is quick, and pressing the button again collapses the canopy before I push the shaft back in. Nothing has come away from the fabric, the ribs all sit neatly, and getting it into the sleeve isn't the wrestling match I've had with other umbrellas. It has handled the awkward gusts you inevitably meet on a walk without leaving me struggling with a mess of fabric. I keep checking for the usual little signs of wear and haven't found any yet. Basically it's been dependable, which is all I wanted after trying so many disappointing ones. Should I lose it, or eventually wear it out, I'd happily buy the same one again.

Nice price and it arrived quickly.

Got down to school and discovered I didn't have an umbrella. Looked around online and found this one, and I've been really happy with it. Nice price and it arrived quickly. It's already had plenty of use this semester, including some pretty nasty wind and rain on campus. Saw other umbrellas turning inside out but mine stayed put and kept me dry. Good size, worth the price, worth the price, happy to recommend it.

So glad I did when I saw my blue umbrella!

I had already spent more on an umbrella before I spotted this one at a much better price. I was a bit unsure cos I usually stick to what I know, but decided it was worth a try. So glad I did when I saw my blue umbrella! It looks every bit as good and feels properly made too. I ended up returning the pricier umbrella and keeping this one. Happy with that decision.

The others gave up too quick.

We had a florist and he did deliveries so needed something that would last. The others gave up too quick. A lot of years have passed and this is still getting used. We retired two years back but he takes it out often. Those flexible ribs seem to help with the inside out thing and it has stayed the right way round.

I was so upset with myself, and couldn't find it afterwards.

I had my first one for more than a year and loved that it wasn't a great long umbrella to carry about. Slim enough to tuck down the side of my bag, but still a proper canopy once it was open. It also coped well with the windy days I used it on, rather than immediately turning itself into a bowl. Then I went and left it in a restaurant! I was so upset with myself, and couldn't find it afterwards. Very glad I could get the same one again, because I didn't really want to start the umbrella search all over. If you like having a folding umbrella in your bag without sacrificing useful coverage, I'd recommend this one.

Jackie Watkins

Very pleased with it and happy to recommend it!

I was hunting for an umbrella to take along to golf and came across this folding one. It's about 105cm across when open and around 40cm folded, so it gives me useful cover without being one of those enormous golf umbrellas. I like the plain look and it feels sturdy in use. Very pleased with it and happy to recommend it!

Paige Velez

This feels solid, packs down well and the push button is handy.

Somehow managed to misplace my last folding umbrella and needed another. This feels solid, packs down well and the push button is handy. I've seen comments about the effort needed to shorten it after closing the canopy, but honestly I don't get it. Yes, you have to push the stem in, it's hardly a workout to put an umbrella away!

How much difference can an umbrella really make?

How much difference can an umbrella really make? Growing up in South Florida and spending years in the Navy, I got fairly used to being wet. Little folding umbrellas always seemed more bother than help, so I wasn't expecting any grand revelation here.Well, I have changed my mind! A sudden shower this morning was a good opportunity to try it, and I came back decidedly pleased with myself and with a dry jacket. It is still a compact umbrella, not some giant golf canopy, but it feels like a proper useful thing rather than a flimsy afterthought. There's a reassuring bit of weight without it being a nuisance to carry. The loop handle sits comfortably in my hand and the opening button is quick. To pack it up, the button draws the canopy closed and I press the telescoping pole down by hand. The sleeve goes on without a wrestling match, which sounds trivial until you've fought with one that doesn't! Useful for shade as well as showers. All told, this has made me much more inclined to bother carrying an umbrella.

Ill be telling people about this umbrella!

My mom got this for xmas and has been using it all the time with the rain we get in washington. Its a handy size to carry but when its open there is plenty of cover. I ended up ordering one for myself too because hers was so useful. The button makes it quick to open when the rain starts and I like how neatly it folds afterward. It feels solid in use and neither of us has found it awkward to carry around. Both very happy! Ill be telling people about this umbrella!

Frances Herring

Feels sturdy in an ordinary breeze, too.

Baseball families will understand how useful a bit of shade can be when you're out for a whole game. Another mom at baseball told me about this umbrella, and I'm glad she did. It has been good in the sunshine and just as useful when a shower comes through. Feels sturdy in an ordinary breeze, too. I ended up buying a second one so there's one in my car and one in my husband's truck. The price seemed reasonable for how well they're made, and I've already pointed a few other families toward them after they asked about mine. We're in Hawaii, so neither sun nor rain is in short supply. The size gives me a comfortable patch of shade without hauling something huge around. Standing underneath feels a lot nicer than having the sun right on me. Definitely earns its place in the car!

I spent a while looking through reviews before picking this one.

I spent a while looking through reviews before picking this one. My job has me moving between buildings on a campus all day, so an umbrella needs to be something I can carry around, not leave behind because it's awkward. I also wanted one I could recognise among all the others left by the door. The green helps with that. The good bits:It fits in my larger purse when folded, so I can keep it with me rather than checking the weather every morning. The button opens it promptly, useful when I'm trying to get from one building to another without hanging about.Another press collapses the canopy; pushing the shaft back down takes my other hand. The compromise:It is still a compact umbrella, not something that's going to shelter everything I'm wearing. My upper half stays covered but my legs can catch rain as I walk. I expected that and chose it because I needed something practical to bring round with me all day. For that purpose it's worked out very well, and I haven't mixed it up with anyone else's.

Hannah Horn

Makes such a difference at baseball games!

Makes such a difference at baseball games! There is always one sibling playing somewhere, so our family spends plenty of time sitting out in the sun. That used to be the miserable part for me. Now I can hold this over my seat and have shade wherever I'm sitting. It feels SO much more comfortable without that direct sun on me. Much easier to enjoy the game instead of wishing it would finish. A definite YES for long afternoons outside.

Valerie Arnold

I find this umbrella convenient to carry and reassuringly solid.

I find this umbrella convenient to carry and reassuringly solid. The gray canopy is about 105cm across, a useful amount of cover for one person. It folds to roughly 40cm, so it fits my usual bag without having to carry a full-length umbrella. At around 390g it isn't the very lightest, but I don't find it tiring to hold. There are 30 flexible ribs supporting the fabric. That part matters to me because the frames on my older umbrellas never inspired much confidence. This one has felt good in normal rainy weather. The oval loop handle gives me a secure grip and lets me attach it to my bag. The button opens the canopy and gathers it again; the shaft is then pushed down by hand. After rain I shake off the loose drops and allow it to dry before using the sleeve. A practical umbrella that I can recommend.

Henry Clark

Does what I need an umbrella to do and the price seemed reasonable.

A couple of months of use now and I haven't had any reason to grumble. Does what I need an umbrella to do and the price seemed reasonable. Hopefully this one will last me a good while, but I'd happily get the same again if needed. The blue is a nice change too, a cheerful bit of colour when everything outside is looking rather gloomy.

Tabitha Houston

I'm really happy with this umbrella.

I'm really happy with this umbrella. It feels well put together. That loop handle is comfortable to hold, like it actually belongs in your hand. The canopy has enough room to keep me DRY when the rain comes down. This is something worth having if you spend much time outside in wet weather and want an umbrella that feels substantial without being a huge thing to carry.

Diane Boyer

Such a lovely umbrella.

Such a lovely umbrella. The gray looks nice and there is a generous amount of cover when it is up. I got this for my granddaughter and she is delighted with it, so I am pleased with the choice too.The listing photo was a very acurate guide to its appearance, nothing unexpected when we opened it. It came promptly and in good order. A nice purchase all round and something I would be happy to recommend to others.

Deanna Lane

People notice this umbrella and quite a few give a smile.

People notice this umbrella and quite a few give a smile. The cream white makes an ordinary rainy day seem a bit special :-)I like carrying it: not too heavy, feels reasonably strong, and the fabric is looking nice so far. Useful for a shower or a little shade in the sunshine.

Javier Huerta

Feels like a well made purchase.

I've been taking this out every couple of weeks and it's been reliable so far. It's compact to take along but opens wide enough that my work backpack isn't sticking out in the rain behind me. That's the part I appreciate most as I carry it every day. The sleeve slides over the folded umbrella easily, so it stays tidy when packed away. Feels like a well made purchase.

Ashlee Koch

The finish and overall quality are excellent for the price.

The umbrella matches its description and gives a very good first impression. A ten out of ten purchase for me. The finish and overall quality are excellent for the price. The canopy closes easily, but resetting the shaft by hand takes some effort. I expect that will become easier with use.

Jacob Hooper

Nothing about it feels flimsy though, so I feel I made a good choice.

Only been out with it once so far, but I'm happy with how it feels. It tucks into my golf bag without much trouble and opening it with the button is convenient. Obviously I can't say much about years of use yet. Nothing about it feels flimsy though, so I feel I made a good choice.

Lance Colon

Keeps the rain off nicely and has coped with wind on our outings.

My dad and I each got one for travelling. Solid feel. Seems well built. Keeps the rain off nicely and has coped with wind on our outings. When folded it is a handy little companion to have along. Nothing complicated, just a dependable umbrella that we're both glad to have.

Dalton Reynolds

I also get a surprising number of nice remarks about it.

This umbrella has now seen me through the changing seasons, from the lighter spring rain to summer downpours, blustery autumn days and even a spell of sleet. After all that use the fabric still looks fresh, the rib ends are where they should be, and the button opening and canopy closing are behaving just as they did at the start. I've had gusts catch it on downtown streets without it flipping over or leaving me with a bent frame. Anyone who has tried to walk between tall buildings with an umbrella will understand why that matters to me. There's enough canopy to shelter me properly without having to steer an enormous thing around everyone else's umbrellas on a busy sidewalk. I also get a surprising number of nice remarks about it. The pink seems to be what catches people's eye first; it's cheerful without the umbrella being awkward to carry. If I could alter anything, there would be two little changes. At 5'2", I find the distance down to the handle a little long for my comfort, and sometimes hold it further up the shaft instead of by the loop. This isn't a problem I've only had with this umbrella, though. Most umbrellas put my hand in much the same place, so perhaps the taller people are simply being catered for again. My other quibble is how easy it is for me to touch the button when putting it away. Once I've closed the canopy and pressed the shaft back in, I can catch that button while arranging the fastening and open the thing again. I end up keeping one hand around the folded umbrella while doing the wrap with the other. Not my favourite little task when everything is wet. On the other hand, the button is right where I want it when I actually need to open it, so I can't entirely blame the design for my own fumbling. Those are fairly small things next to how well it has done its job. It has become the umbrella I reach for first, and I feel quite happy taking it out when rain is on the way.

Stacy Blair

One thing I didn't expect to appreciate so much is the handle.

One thing I didn't expect to appreciate so much is the handle. The oval loop is comfortable for my older, arthritic hands, and I don't feel as though I'm hanging on to a tiny slippery knob. It opens without a struggle and has enough cover for me with room to spare. The blue is a colour anyone could use, and the canopy is useful for shade as well as rain. The frame feels substantial without being rigid; you can see the ribs flex a little, which seems more sensible than something that might snap under pressure.

Sean Garrett

A handy size for commuting, without being one of those tiny umbrellas that barely cover your head. It goes in the side bottle pocket of my backpack (with a little room left). I wouldn't expect it to keep every drop off in sideways rain, but after a dozen outings it's done the job nicely.

Jeffrey Mcdonald

Arrived carefully packed and made a lovely first impression!

Arrived carefully packed and made a lovely first impression! I absolutely LOVE how it looks opened up. It's fairly understated, so I wouldn't expect it to dominate a photograph. I'm a wedding photographer and already have ideas for using it creatively with my brides. Should be fun as well as useful!

Dan Dunn

This one got a useful loop built into the handle.

This one got a useful loop built into the handle. Not the usual open hook thing. I been thinking about this kinda idea for getting around in Rhode Island, little things which make carrying stuff less trouble. So I looked around online and THERE it was! A folding umbrella with a closed loop handle, and the button makes it quick to get ready when rain starts.I like this for people who walk and use bus/taxi around RI. Still have to hold it while its open of course. But when folded the loop gives you something proper to hang onto instead of gripping wet fabric. Such a small idea. I guess these little traveling improvements don't get people very excited.

Clifford Sparks

Brilliant umbrella!

Brilliant umbrella! Been using it around downtown San Francisco on rainy days and it's comfortable to carry, even when the wind picks up.The canopy feels well put together and the ribs look substantial. Feels like something I'll keep for a while (not another flimsy throwaway)

Jared Maynard

My father-in-law loved this Christmas present.

My father-in-law loved this Christmas present. It gives a good amount of cover, but do be aware it's not a tiny umbrella for your pocket! It folds down into something he can pack, though, which is handy for when he comes to England to visit us. Much more practical than carrying a long umbrella around, and should keep him dry!

Colleen Dennis

So far it's been a very worthwhile replacement.

My old umbrella finally gave up, and the simple look plus the comments from other buyers made this one appealing. It's been getting regular use for a little over a month now. What has pleased me most is the balance between the coverage, the sturdiness and the weight. I can carry it without feeling weighed down, which wasn't always true of the small one I had before. We get quite a bit of wind here and I was tired of umbrellas that folded over at the first gust. This one has dealt well with the breezy days I've taken it out in, and I've stayed dry too.The one bit I would make easier is shortening it after closing. The button brings the canopy down, but compressing the telescoping part still takes a firm push. That's how it's supposed to work, not a fault. I haven't taken a star away for that because I'd rather have the solid feel I like than something that feels flimsy. So far it's been a very worthwhile replacement.

Cesar Blake

The frame feels solid and it has done well on wet, windy days.

Four years on, I'm still using this umbrella and it looks surprisingly good for its age. The frame feels solid and it has done well on wet, windy days. Two thoughts: 1) Keep track of it. If you regularly leave umbrellas behind, buying a nicer one may not cure that habit. I'm guilty of this myself, but somehow this one's still here (touch wood). 2) Let it dry while open rather than stuffing it straight back into its sleeve. I haven't always been good about that, and damp metal doesn't appreciate being put away wet.

Kristy Boyle

The button is convenient and it feels well made.

Just bought another of these and I'm as happy with it as I was with the first! That one gave me about three years of regular use, which I think is very good for an umbrella. The button is convenient and it feels well made. I'd certainly recommend it, and if I need another umbrella later I'd have no hesitation choosing the same again.

Corey Jacobs

At last, an umbrella I can keep control of in a breeze!

At last, an umbrella I can keep control of in a breeze! With all the rain lately it has kept me nicely covered. I can hold it high enough to watch the pavement without struggling with it, and I don't feel like I'm constantly tilting it into everyone else's way as I walk.

Meredith Ayala

The carry sleeve is handy as well.

The size is fine for one person, just don't expect the spread of a big golf umbrella. Opens itself and the canopy folds with the button too It took quite a push to shorten the shaft on my first try, but that part is manual and I'm finding it easier now. The carry sleeve is handy as well. Good for everyday use, just a little smaller than I'd imagined.

Diamond Mccarty

It FEELS properly made.

Needed to replace my umbrella and everything in the shops looked dull--or flimsy! The cream white on this one looks lovely, and I like the shape when it opens. It FEELS properly made. Haven't had the chance to use it in much wind yet, so I can't say for certain, but the frame seems reassuringly sturdy in my hands.

Katie York

The button makes getting into the car in rain a lot less awkward.

The button makes getting into the car in rain a lot less awkward. I can bring the canopy down quickly and compress the pole by hand afterward. It's fine for trips to nearby cafes and shops, although I prefer not to take it out in really blustery rain. What I don't enjoy is tidying all the folds, it takes me longer than I'd like and the folded umbrella still has some bulk. For the car I think the convenience is worth it. The sleeve is a close fit unless I roll everything up carefully, so honestly I don't bother with it every single time. Useful, just not my easiest umbrella to put away.

Misty Perez

A rainy day is nicer when you have an umbrella you enjoy using.

A rainy day is nicer when you have an umbrella you enjoy using. The gray looks better in person than I could tell from the photo. I was replacing one I'd used for several years, so it was good to find something similar. This gives me good cover and folds away for my purse. It's a little longer folded than my old one, but still fits and I'm glad to have it.

Morgan Collier

These umbrellas have been a hit with my kids.

These umbrellas have been a hit with my kids. They're a bit more roomy than the little children's ones, so their backpacks aren't sticking out in the rain. Holding up nicely so far, and thats saying something with how rough my lot can be. We've had umbrellas last a year before and I'm hoping these do as well. the button is easy for them to manage, I just help push the shaft down once the canopy is closed.

Leonard Mayer

Update: I'm still happy with how it's doing on the walk to work.

I walk to & from work most days, and an umbrella gets a fair amount of use rather than just sitting in my bag. The smaller ones I've carried haven't always been much help when the rain starts coming sideways. I wanted something more substantial without having to carry a full-length umbrella everywhere. This one has that sturdier feel. There are a lot of flexible ribs supporting the canopy, and the whole thing feels less flimsy when it's open. It has some weight to it, but not enough to make carrying it to work a chore. The canopy is a decent size, too. I can keep my shoulders covered without holding the handle right against my chest. In the wind that comes between buildings I still hold onto it properly, but I'm not constantly worrying about it turning over. The grip is comfortable, with a closed oval loop rather than the usual curved handle. It folds down short enough for my bag, and the button is handy when I'm stepping out into rain. Update: I'm still happy with how it's doing on the walk to work. One thing worth remembering is that the loop isn't a hook for hanging over a chair back. I'm more careful about where I put it down now. A small thing, but I would rather look after an umbrella I actually like using!

Ann Spears

For everyday use I would [recommend] it.

The [push button] gives a very [quick] opening, with no fiddling to spread the umbrella by hand. For [closing], the [canopy] draws together with another press. The [shaft] then needs pushing down by hand to finish the [reset]. This is simple once understood. There are [30 ribs] in the [frame], which gives a [substantial] impression without making it an enormous umbrella. The outside is [black], and the underside is also [black], so the appearance is [plain] but [smart]. 【Suitable for】men too. My only hesitation was that the canopy material looked rather thin when I first opened it. This was just an impression, and I have not had any trouble with it. At about [40 centimeters] when [folded], it is a useful size for carrying, rather than a full length umbrella that always needs somewhere to stand. Considering the [price], the [button operation] and the overall [finish] have impressed me a great deal. For everyday use I would [recommend] it.

Katherine Chavez

Such a cute umbrella.

Such a cute umbrella. I use it for myself (I'm at college) and the size suits me well (5'1). Only thing is it takes a bit of patience putting it into the sleeve, especially if not folded up neatly first. Once I get it straight it's fine. Been good in the rain so far and doesn't feel flimsy when there's a breeze.

Tasha Gardner

Well, hardly any weight to this thing.

Well, hardly any weight to this thing. Feels decent..ribs have some give. Handle's a good shape. The button takes care of opening it and bringing the canopy down, which suits me fine. Comes with a plain sleeve for carrying. Black on the outside and underneath too. Shade..that's why I bought it, and sitting under it is much nicer than standing in full sun. Rain performance..can't tell you yet. Haven't needed it for that.If it holds up..could be my favorite Um so far.

Evan Dunlap

Very pleased so far.

Ok, i haven't taken it out in rain yet, but opening it in the house has been surprisingly satisfying. Much smoother than the umbrellas i'm used to. The cream white fabric looks lovely against the black underside, and the loop handle has a nice clean look. I wasn't after anything showy, just something that looked smart and felt solid. On those things it has certainly delivered. Very pleased so far.

Gail Hays

Still some weight there~^^

I wanted something that opened to a decent size but didn't mean carrying a long umbrella around all day, so this seemed right. The handle is an enclosed oval loop, which is a little different from the usual handle, but I find it convenient to carry that way. Once folded it sits nicely in my bag, though it is not one of those tiny umbrellas you forget is there. I've bought it again after losing the first one, so at least I knew what I was getting this time. The opening button saves a bit of fiddling too. Oh, does this one feel lighter in my hand? Maybe I am just more used to it now. Still some weight there~^^

Claudia Fischer

The weather has been very wet this year and we've used this often.

After enough wet shoulders with little umbrellas, decided to get one with more cover. The weather has been very wet this year and we've used this often. It gives me space for myself and my groceries without carrying a huge umbrella. You cant put it in a tiny handbag, but for staying dry with your shopping its been a good choice.

Adrienne Hubbard

So far it has been a good choice.

This was a birthday present for my nephew. Most of his friends carry umbrellas to school, so he was excited to have one of his own. He loves it.We're about a month into a seven year old using it regularly and it's holding up nicely. So far it has been a good choice.

Brady Walsh

Looks good too.

I had one already, lent it to a friend and never got it back because they lost it. Ordered two this time. That probably says enough about how much I like it, but anyway. The frame feels strong when it's open and I can hang on properly when the weather gets gusty without feeling like the whole thing is about to turn into a handful of sticks. The opening has a good positive shove to it, so give it some room. Looks good too.I'm not gentle about carrying umbrellas around, which is why I wanted another of these rather than something that only looks nice. No, I'm not recommending chucking one out of a high window as a durability test (just carry it downstairs like a normal person). I want something I can take out in the rain and not fuss over. This fits that pretty damn well.

Clarence Bartlett

The closed oval handle is also easy to take hold of.

I wasn't planning to write a long explanation about an umbrella, but here goes. I chose this one for my wife, and since we live in the Pacific Northwest it wasn't going to spend its entire life waiting for an interesting weather forecast. Rain is not exactly a surprise around here. What matters to us is whether something is straightforward to use when you actually need it, rather than how impressive it sounds in a description. For the record, this has been normal household use. No strength contests, no using it as a walking stick, no leaving it outside to see what happens. There are probably more entertaining ways to judge an umbrella. My wife just wants to get from one place to another without being soaked, and I'm inclined to think that is a fair test. The first thing that made a good impression was how little fuss there is getting it open. Press the button and it's ready. That may not sound like something deserving a long paragraph, but an umbrella is one of those things you generally need right now, not after you've finished arguing with it. The canopy gives her useful coverage, too. It isn't merely convenient to carry and then disappointingly small when there is actually rain coming down. Then there is putting it away, which deserves a little explanation. The button brings the canopy closed; you still shorten the telescoping shaft yourself. I mention that because automatic closing can sound as though absolutely everything retracts at the push of a button. That's not what happens here, and knowing the distinction makes the whole operation perfectly understandable. Once I'd looked at how it worked, there wasn't any mystery to it. Close the canopy, press the shaft back down by hand, and it's ready for the next use. Now, I consider myself reasonably fair about these things. I'm not expecting a handheld umbrella to replace a roof, and I don't think taking one into ridiculous weather proves very much about whether it is useful for everyday rain. What I do expect is decent coverage and an operation that doesn't become a chore. On those terms this has done what we wanted. No elaborate qualifications needed. Heck, sometimes something doing its ordinary job well is enough to make you appreciate it. The folded size is another part of that. My wife has something manageable to carry rather than a long umbrella that needs its own parking place. The closed oval handle is also easy to take hold of. These are small observations individually, but they matter more to me than a dramatic demonstration of something we would never ask an umbrella to do in the first place. So that is the lengthy explanation behind my five stars. I chose it for her, watched how it fitted into ordinary use, and came away thinking I would be happy with the same thing myself. It hasn't required a special occasion or an extraordinary test to make a good impression. Just the usual rain, and an umbrella that gets used instead of being left behind.

Virginia Mckenzie

I haven't found any uncomfortable edges around the handle.

Several of our anonymous-looking umbrellas have wandered off, so we went for Cream White this time, partly because we might actually recognise our own. Folded up it is a fairly substantial little baton rather than one of those tiny things that vanishes at the bottom of a bag. The oval loop is closed, which suits me better than an open hook. Getting the fabric wrapped neatly makes a difference to how tidy the whole thing is when put away. It isn't difficult, but a hurried bundle is still a hurried bundle. What I tend to check first is whether the canopy seems properly held to its ribs. This one feels reassuring on that score, with the fabric supported all round rather than looking loose and neglected. The button is easy to find and opens it without a struggle. I haven't found any uncomfortable edges around the handle. Pressing the button again folds the canopy; you then compress the telescoping shaft yourself. That is worth knowing before expecting the whole umbrella to disappear into the handle under its own steam. The loop gives a decent hold, and the folded umbrella fits in our tote without an awkward hooked end sticking out. In practice it will probably spend more time tucked in the car. There is a sleeve supplied, too, which is handy for keeping the folded fabric together. I wouldn't mistake it for a sealed bag for a dripping umbrella, but it slips on easily enough when everything is neatly wrapped. (The cat, incidentally, remains unconvinced that umbrellas need to exist)
