I'd happily recommend it.

More substantial than the umbrellas I've used before. It folds down for carrying, although you do have to push the shaft back in yourself after closing the canopy with the button. That seems a fair trade for a compact umbrella that doesn't feel flimsy in a breeze. The opening action is smooth, too. I'd happily recommend it.

Dorothy Foster

I'd certainly recommend it.

After losing my previous umbrella I wanted another that would be convenient for walking the dogs, and this has worked out very well. There is room over me and, if one of the dogs stays close, some cover for the dog too. I wouldn't call it a huge umbrella, but it is a useful size without being a nuisance to carry. The button is a big help when my other hand is occupied with a lead. A press opens it, and another press brings the canopy in when we're done. I then compress the shaft manually before putting it away. That last part takes both hands for me, so it isn't completely hands free, but I still find the button very convenient. The frame has some flex to it and has behaved nicely on windy walks without getting turned inside out. For its size the weight is comfortable as well. It seems put together properly rather than disposable, which matters when I use it this often. I'd certainly recommend it.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE it!

I picked this umbrella for our wedding that's coming up and it feels perfect! Some of the other options worked out far too pricey. This was reasonable and practical/ not something I will use once and put away. Every rainy outing afterwards can bring back a little of our special day. ABSOLUTELY LOVE it!

This one has been sturdy and straightforward to use.

After too many umbrellas turning inside out, I wanted something that felt more solid. This one has been sturdy and straightforward to use. I've taken it through several good soakings and it has kept the rain off me very well. No wrestling with it to get it open either. My only real problem is remembering where I've left it. When I'm home it's in the car, when I'm at the car it's in the house. Might have to buy another and stop playing that game. LOL

Sandy Solomon

Nice umbrella, with a bit of care needed.

I expected to be a little careful with it, but the fabric doesn't feel like something I'd want scraping along rough walls. Please DON'T drag it against anything scratchy! It's a lovely umbrella and there's enough room underneath to feel sheltered when it rains here, which is often. Nothing has gone wrong, I just find myself watching where I'm walking more than usual. Being clumsy doesn't help. Nice umbrella, with a bit of care needed.

Jessica Mercado

Happy with how they've been.

Small enough for a school bag and not too heavy, though it feels quite sturdy. I chose it to replace the umbrella we'd been using before. There was a slight new smell at first, but leaving it out for a day sorted that. I've now put one in each of the children's bags. Happy with how they've been.

Lovely to see him get so much pleasure out of an umbrella.

My grandson was thrilled to unwrap this at Christmas. He's four, and it turned out to be a good size for him to carry. I showed him the button and he picked it up quickly. Spent most of the afternoon carrying it around with him. Lovely to see him get so much pleasure out of an umbrella.

Altogether a very satisfying umbrella to own.

I had one of these already and was pleased to be able to get another. The first has suited me very well, which is why I came back to the same sort. I use it when the weather is gloomy or wet and I need something handy to take along. The green is a cheerful colour on those days. If rain is coming sideways I do have to angle the canopy, and I make sure I can still see where I'm going rather than pulling it right down. The sleeve is useful too. I keep it in my bag while I'm using the umbrella so it doesn't get left behind. Altogether a very satisfying umbrella to own.

Handy everyday umbrella.

Handy everyday umbrella. I can take it along when travelling without feeling I've packed a full-sized golf umbrella, yet it opens wide enough to keep me properly covered. The flexible frame looks solid too. A useful middle ground between tiny folding umbrellas and the really enormous ones.

Hector Morton

It's had a few scuffs but still feels solid and works nicely.

My three year old boy enjoys this in the sun just as much as the rain. It gets included in his games as a pretend walking stick too, so I wasn't sure how long it would stay looking decent. It's had a few scuffs but still feels solid and works nicely. Money well spent.

Kathleen Bell

The pink looks lovely and the umbrella has stayed in good shape.

We've had this for our little daughter for about six months now and she's still excited about it. The pink looks lovely and the umbrella has stayed in good shape. She can work the button while I hold it, but I do the packing away afterwards. It isn't a toy, though she would happily have it up indoors as well -- rain or no rain. A nicely made umbrella, and she is very proud to carry it.

Wet days or bright days...

Wet days or bright days... I wanted something I could use for either and this seems to suit. It is manageable to carry and still covers me properly. Giving it four stars for now....only because I have not had it long enough to say how it will be after months of opening and folding. Early impressions are good, hopefully they stay that way!

Good, ROOMY umbrella for one.

Good, ROOMY umbrella for one. The frame looks solid and it has a nicer finish than I was expecting. A little more weight for a compact umbrella than I'd pictured, but I'm happy with it. THE button takes care of opening and bringing the canopy in, then there's a fairly firm push to shorten the stem. So overall, a pretty good one I'd say.

My only small grumble is the weight

Umbrellas don't leave a reviewer with a great deal to discuss, unless you plan to report on every individual raindrop (grin). Still, this one deserves a few words. It's reasonably compact folded, yet has a reassuringly substantial feel once opened. The flexible ribs seem to cope well with the movement you get on a wet, breezy walk. Coverage has been ample for my six-foot frame, including the bit of me that could stand to be less ample. My only small grumble is the weight; you know it's in the bag, even if it doesn't take up a huge amount of room. Otherwise it's become the one I reach for when the forecast looks damp!

Yvonne Savage

Definitely worth that small extra amount.

A few months in and I'm still using this, which is unusual for me with umbrellas. I paid only a little more than I would for one of those last minute buys when it starts raining. The difference is how solid it feels in your hand. Definitely worth that small extra amount.

Carol Olson

This one has been a good buy for the money.

Moving to Long Island made me realise that the cheapest little umbrellas weren't much use for my daily rain needs. This one has been a good buy for the money. It gives decent coverage and has coped with the windy showers I've taken it through, without being awkward to carry.I wouldn't call the finish luxurious, and the handle has a more basic feel than I expected. I wouldn't want to knock it about and expect it to take everything. However, it's manageable in weight, looks smart, and works well for the ordinary wet days I need it for.

Maxwell Skinner

Arriving with dry shoulders is worth the extra bit to carry.

Black happens to be my favourite colour, but the real reason for buying this was my walk to and from work every day. I needed enough cover to keep my work clothes dry and didn't want an umbrella that felt flimsy in a breeze. Open, this gives me plenty of room. It's not something I forget I'm carrying, there's a bit of weight to it, but I don't mind that when the rain starts. Seeing other commuters wrestling with their umbrellas makes me appreciate having something that has stayed steady for me. Arriving with dry shoulders is worth the extra bit to carry.

Joanna Franklin

Thank you.

I wanted a sturdy umbrella as my job has me outside in changeable weather. The canopy on this one gives me enough cover for rainy days, and it feels secure rather than flimsy when I'm holding it. For years I carried a large golf umbrella, but it was a lot to carry about whenever the weather changed. I started taking this one out in the autumn and am very please with how manageable it is. It still has a decent spread when open, which was the main thing I was looking for. Thank you.

Darlene Rose

IT OPENS EASILY AND I'M HAPPY WITH IT.

THIS HAS THE LOOK I WAS AFTER--SIMPLE WITHOUT BEING BORING. THE PINK IS JUST RIGHT FOR ME AND IT LOOKS GOOD HANGING WITH MY COATS. I HAD EXPECTED A HOOK FROM THE PICTURE, BUT THE HANDLE IS ACTUALLY A CLOSED OVAL LOOP--ONCE I FOUND A PLACE FOR IT ON THE RACK THAT WAS FINE! IT OPENS EASILY AND I'M HAPPY WITH IT. ARRIVED QUICKLY TOO.

Katherine Kaufman

Stylish little umbrella, with a pleasingly simple design.

Stylish little umbrella, with a pleasingly simple design. I'd use it more often if we had more rain, and if I remembered to take it out with me. I like that it's just black, including underneath; there's something satisfying about a simple design on a grey wet day. The build feels reasonable rather than indestructible, which is fine for what I need. I wouldn't choose it for a day of serious gusts. Mostly I appreciate having something useful that also looks considered, without having spent a fortune on it. It makes an everyday object a bit nicer.

Rebecca Leonard

Have had some lovely comments about it!

Slightly silly to admit it, but this one's for ME, not a child. I still like using an umbrella as a parasol, and I'm thin so there's all the cover I need. It doesn't look childish when I carry it either. I'd recommend it to other grown women who never stopped enjoying that sort of thing. Have had some lovely comments about it!

Drew Brennan

Everything arrived neatly packed and I am happy with the umbrella.

Everything arrived neatly packed and I am happy with the umbrella. Thank you). It has a substantial feel, not a very light thing, nice green colour and the inside is black. The button on the handle sends the umbrella all the way open. For putting away, the same button gathers the canopy, then the long shaft has to be pushed down by hand, this needs some pressure. It is normal, not another button action. Looks very good when open, plenty of covering over me for rain. I am satisfied with this purchase. Thank you).

Rebecca Chen

Considered spending less, then came back to this one.

Considered spending less, then came back to this one.We play a lot of golf and usually walk rather than ride, so having some shade along the way makes a difference. It is much more comfortable than standing in full sun, and the umbrella isn't awkward to bring along. We haven't had it out in much wind yet, so I can't judge that side of things. But for shade I'm very happy!

Michaela Lozano

A solid, good looking umbrella.

Got caught in a nasty burst of cold rain on the way into work. A coworker watched me leaning into the gusts, which probably looked ridiculous. The umbrella kept its shape through it all. I felt more in danger of being carried along like a kite than of the frame giving up. A solid, good looking umbrella.

Brandy Hendrix

Good coverage in the rain and the construction seems solid.

I got two in black for my kids, ages 3 & 5. They LOVE having their own umbrellas. Good coverage in the rain and the construction seems solid. Took a little practice with me helping them use the button and shorten the shaft again, but they're used to the routine now.

Alan Terrell

I've used it several times now and been pleased each time.

I've kept a small umbrella in my travel bag for years, usually whatever was cheapest. This time I spent a little more and it seems to have been worthwhile. The fabric has a substantial feel and the frame doesn't seem flimsy when a breeze catches it. I've used it several times now and been pleased each time. It isn't a fancy expensive umbrella, but I'm struggling to see why I'd need one of those when this does what I want for the money.

Gabriela Decker

He was delighted with it.

A birthday present for my nephew, who'd been wanting an umbrella like the other children take to school. He was delighted with it.He's been taking it most days for about a month now and it still looks good. Early days with a seven year old using it, but we're both pleased so far.

Louis Aguilar

Love having this umbrella for my husband.

Love having this umbrella for my husband. There is a fair walk from his parking garage to the office and it gives him good cover. The canopy folds quickly with the button, though shortening the stem takes a firm push. Just watch where you point it when opening, it pops out with some enthusiasm!

Norman Middleton

This one has that same solid feel.

I've used folding umbrellas for years. For me the outside gets scuffed from setting them on the ground (not the best habit) before the fabric gives up. This one has that same solid feel. It has coped with gusts so far, though I wouldn't expect the finish to stay pristine with the way I treat it.

Benjamin Bentley

I'm tall, so decent coverage matters to me.

My favourite umbrella--though leaving umbrellas on buses and in restaurants seems to be my speciality. I've carried folding ones for years and this feels like a very good buy. I'm tall, so decent coverage matters to me. This opens out generously but still packs away easily enough to keep taking along!

Jeremy Bell

The blue is nice and plain.

I wanted more cover than my old folding umbrella gave me, without giving up automatic opening and closing. This one mostly gets there. I pictured it opening a little wider, but there's still enough room for me and it isn't awkward to carry folded. The blue is nice and plain. I've never understood the whole men's umbrella versus women's umbrella thing--keeping rain off your head is the same job either way! Nobody has stopped me to question my choice of umbrella yet. The oval handle looked rather small when I first saw it, especially as my hands are fairly big, but holding it has been fine. Closing with the button brings the canopy in, and you shorten the stem yourself afterwards. Worth knowing if you're expecting the whole thing to retract. For what I paid, I think it's a sensible choice. Just not quite the extra room I had pictured.

Miranda Vaughn

Quality was what I wanted and it feels worth what I paid.

I picked this umbrella as part of my husband's birthday present and it went down very well. There is a nice solid feel to it, both the frame and the fabric. The canopy sits neatly when opened, the oval handle feels secure in the hand and the opening action is straightforward. Quality was what I wanted and it feels worth what I paid. A successful gift.

Kelsey Rangel

Excellent finish and a very solid frame.

Calling it nice hardly says enough about this umbrella. The gray against the black underside looks so elegant. It has that expensive feel without the expensive price. Excellent finish and a very solid frame. My one complaint, if it counts, is how many comments it gets. I was only trying to get where I was going and kept being asked about my umbrella. Not usually a problem I associate with rainy days. A great buy.

Kristy Richardson

People on campus have actually stopped to ask about my green umbrella.

People on campus have actually stopped to ask about my green umbrella. Apparently it's getting a reputation and I'm merely there to carry it. The other umbrellas look rather sulky beside it, which is understandable. I also seem to sing more when I'm carrying it; no evidence that the singing has improved. Am considering giving it top billing on my next walk.Doesn't go in my little purse, but I suppose fame requires a few sacrifices.

Sheena Vincent

good cover over my shoulders.

nice material. lovely cream white colour. good cover over my shoulders. not too heavy. I mainly want it for shade when walking in the sun. folds up reasonably small but not small enough for my little purse. a roomier bag works better. the loop handle is useful for carrying it in my hand. haven't really tested it in much wind so cant say about that yet. i will add to this later depending on how it gets on with the weather.

Kara Gay

I am not quite sold on the size for my commute.

I am not quite sold on the size for my commute. I work in downtown Chicago and use public transportation, so an umbrella is something I carry with me, not something that stays in a car. These comments concern ordinary rainy days and carrying my work things. I am not describing an extreme weather test. (Nor do I want to occupy the whole sidewalk.) There are a few separate observations: 1. The coverage takes a little arranging when I have both my purse and laptop bag. My preference would be for more spare room around everything without having to think about it. That is a preference, though, rather than the umbrella being unusable. Keeping my work bag nearer my body, instead of hanging out to one side, has sorted out the fit for my normal commute. With that adjustment, the canopy covers what I need it to cover. 2. The ribs have some flexibility, which I noticed when checking it over. They support the open canopy properly in the ordinary conditions I have used it in. I would not judge them simply by whether they feel completely rigid in my hands. In use, there has been nothing here that needs fixing. 3. Walking around building corners is another thing I pay attention to downtown. The canopy has remained manageable on those parts of my walk, and I have been able to keep it positioned over myself and my bags. I cannot speak for every kind of weather, but the everyday rain coverage has been satisfactory. 4. The opening and closing sequence is worth understanding. The button opens it and also folds the canopy closed. To put it away completely, I then compress the telescoping section manually, which prepares it for opening again. That is how it operates, not a failure of the closing button. On my morning coffee stop before work, I can close it at the entrance and have it ready to use again when I leave. So the size is still less generous than my personal ideal for carrying work bags. However, changing how I carry the bag resolved the practical nuisance, and the umbrella itself has otherwise been satisfactory.

He may want something smaller to leave in there all the time.

We've recently moved and my husband now has a walk of about three quarters of a mile between home and the subway. With the rain we get here, an umbrella was one of the first things he needed. This looks like a good one for that walk, and there seems to be enough room over his shoulders (he's tall. We haven't had a chance to try it in proper rain yet, so I'm holding off on judging that part. His only reservation is that, although it folds, it still takes up more room in his work bag than he wanted. He may want something smaller to leave in there all the time. I like the construction and the way it opens, though, and for someone wanting a sturdy umbrella rather than the tiniest possible one, this looks a good choice!

Jorge Hodges

She's happy with it.

My wife needed something better than the little umbrellas we had collected around the house. They never gave her much cover, and she wanted one that felt a bit more substantial. This has enough room for her and the frame seems solid. Her favourite part is being able to collapse the canopy with a quick press as she gets into the car, especially with something already in her other arm. Once she's inside she can shorten the shaft by hand. She's happy with it.

Xavier Meza

I'd certainly recommend it.

My reason for getting this was to have something small enough to carry for the on and off rain here in S.F. The wind was what worried me most (it seems to arrive with the rain every time). I've seen plenty of umbrellas being fought with on the street and didn't want another one like that. So far this one has coped very nicely, including a few gusty walks. It has opened without fuss and kept its shape (which was really my main test). I'd certainly recommend it.

Alejandra Brooks

Really love this one!

If walking is how you get all your errands done (and everything else), this is a great umbrella to carry. It opens into a useful size, feels solid and looks smart without being fussy. It's already coped well with the breezy, rainy walks that used to make errands miserable. Really love this one!

Laura Sanchez

Couldn't ask for much more from an umbrella!

Nearly a year on and I am still delighted with it! I bought it mostly for shade(the sun is not my friend), but it has been useful for rain and breezy days as well. Being able to carry my own shade makes standing outside much more comfortable. It came along to a lacrosse tournament back East, where the heat and humidity were awful, and I was so glad to have it! Several people wanted to know about it. After all that use the fabric still looks good and everything operates smoothly. Couldn't ask for much more from an umbrella!

Sheri Obrien

A nice solid umbrella and I feel the price is justified.

A nice solid umbrella and I feel the price is justified. It is smaller then the picture I had in my head, although the measurements were right there and I should have paid more attention. Still, I'm keeping it. There are plenty of times a larger umbrella is awkward, and this should be much easier to take along.

Kendra Donovan

I'm so pleased with this new umbrella!

I'm so pleased with this new umbrella! I've not had one with a button that closes the canopy before and it makes getting into the car much easier. Less messing about with a wet umbrella while trying to stay dry. It's bigger than the little one I'd carried for ages, which was what I wanted, and feels stronger too. I've only used it a handful of times but people have already asked where it came from. I wish the local shops offered more umbrellas that were nice to look at. Glad I found this one.

Courtney Suarez

Nothing to grumble about here.

Nothing to grumble about here. The opening action is easy and the flexible ribs cope well with the wind we get. Our first two have been in use for about a year, and I've now ordered another for the family. (Everyone reaches for these before the other umbrellas.) Still looking good, with the fabric and frame in good shape -- a sound buy in my view.

Cristian Mercer

The coverage is just right for me on my own.

I've used this around the lakes in the Alps in some very wet, blustery weather, and it's handled my outings wonderfully. It's reassuring to have something that doesn't immediately feel overwhelmed when a gust comes between the buildings. The coverage is just right for me on my own. My girlfriend has squeezed underneath with me in light rain, but I would NOT buy this as a regular umbrella for two (a bigger one makes more sense for that). It looks smart and the construction is neat, nothing that needed sorting out when I unpacked it.It's not the cheapest option, certainly. But I'd rather pay a bit more for something I enjoy using. If you're tired of replacing cheap umbrellas, or just appreciate something nicely made... I think this is money well spent. Stay dry out there.

Noah Estes

No grumbles with this little umbie.

No grumbles with this little umbie. It's seen me through some really miserable rain and still earns its place in my bag. It is a folding umbrella, not a huge one, so I don't expect it to replace my raincoat in a proper downpour. I use both and it helps keep my purse covered too. Fits in my everyday bag (not one of those bags you could move house with...) and has been great.

Abigail Rivas

Automatic opening works well

I decided to spend a little more after getting tired of the inexpensive umbrellas I had been using. About two weeks into a rainy Boston spring, this one has already had plenty of outings. The frame feels more substantial, and the canopy doesn't feel flimsy when I'm holding it in a breeze. Automatic opening works well; the second press draws the canopy shut, and pushing the shaft back down is a separate step. Nothing complicated about it once you know what to expect. I'm less keen on the loop handle than I would be on a simple wrist strap, but that's personal preference, not something that stops it working. Update-After two and a half years, I still feel I got good value from this umbrella. It has been used rather than babied, and I appreciate that it remains a useful everyday thing. I'd look at the same kind again when I eventually need to replace it. A good purchase.

Jonathon Mckay

Covers me when I'm caught out and is EASY TO CARRY.

To start with, this is a folding umbrella, not a huge one to shelter everybody. For me it's the one that stays in a bag rather than the big umbrella I take when I know rain is coming. It does that job really well. Covers me when I'm caught out and is EASY TO CARRY. Mine goes in my laptop bag so it's there if the weather changes while I'm away from home. Anyone carrying a work or college bag could find it useful. There's enough coverage for one person, and the ordinary gusts I've met haven't flipped it over. No problems with it so far.

Blake Ruiz

Also, it feels really strong for the rough rain we get in NY.

Plenty of cover to keep me dry without looking like I'm carrying something enormous... this is the size I wanted. Also, it feels really strong for the rough rain we get in NY.I wouldn't throw money at the cheap umbrellas sold on the street... better to buy one that feels made to last!

Abigail Deleon

Being compact doesn't mean it will disappear into a jacket pocket.

I have read some fairly harsh comments about compact umbrellas, and I do wonder whether people expect too much from something they also want to carry around. I've owned several over the years and small hasn't always meant flimsy. I chose this one for use when I'm wearing a suit, so I wanted something presentable as well as practical. Once opened, it's a generous size. Not ridiculously big, but certainly less cramped than its folded appearance might suggest. There are two things I'd point out for anyone who is particular about these things: (1) the frame feels substantial, and there is a fairly thick bundle when it's folded. Being compact doesn't mean it will disappear into a jacket pocket. I appreciate the solid feel, but it is a compromise if you want the slimmest possible umbrella. (2) The closed oval handle isn't quite what I would have chosen for looks. A traditional handle would look smarter to my eye, although this one is perfectly usable. It's a small criticism rather than something that puts me off carrying it. After retiring my previous umbrella, I wanted a replacement that didn't look like an afterthought with work clothes. The blue looks smart, and the overall proportions are good when it's up. I wouldn't call it exceptionally tiny when packed away, but for everyday rain and a reasonably tidy appearance, I think it's a good replacement.
