This one looks lovely in black and responds very neatly.
No rain since it came a few days back (southern California doing its sunny thing), so the wet-weather test will have to wait. I had four folding umbrellas already when my old automatic retired, which sounded like plenty. Except I kept reaching for a button that wasn't there--apparently I've become spoiled! This one looks lovely in black and responds very neatly. Press, and up it goes; press again, and the canopy folds. Now I actually want a rainy day to try it properly!

I've had this out in the rain several times now.
I've had this out in the rain several times now. The ribs feel strong and the whole thing stays nicely shaped in the wind I've encountered. The sleeve is handy too. Only thing is, after the button gathers the canopy, pushing the stem down to latch it takes a fairly firm shove.

useful once the rain got serious, not particularly.
After a thorough soaking here in Georgia this spring, I decided the little grocery-store umbrella in my briefcase wasn't earning its space. Convenient folded, yes; useful once the rain got serious, not particularly. I wanted proper coverage without having to carry a full-length umbrella everywhere, and this has proved a very good compromise. There's actually room for my shoulders under the canopy, the frame feels substantial, and it still goes into my bag afterwards. It looks handsome too, rather than like some emergency item dragged from the back of a cupboard. (I don't play golf, despite living near Augusta, so I can't offer any fairway expertise. My interest is mostly in getting to work without arriving soaked. No compact umbrella is going to prevent every splash reaching your trouser legs, but decent cover overhead makes an enormous difference. For someone who wants an umbrella they will actually bother to bring along, rather than leave at home because it's awkward to carry, I think this is a very sensible choice)

It doesn't make the wind disappear!
Working in a high school means some of my job happens outside whether I fancy it or not. Rain does seem to pick the exact moment I'm watching the crossing, supervising buses or standing at a football game! I've been using this umbrella for two years and it is still doing its job without anything looking ready to give up. There are a few marks on the handle from putting it down on the pavement, handle first, which is really my own doing. Otherwise it has held up remarkably well. Today we're getting a particularly wet, blustery spell. We're quite a way inland but it certainly hasn't meant a calm afternoon. I went outside with it for a bit and was impressed that I wasn't constantly wrestling with the canopy. On previous rainy duties I've noticed the same thing. You do still need a proper grip when a gust catches it; you can feel the pull through your arm. It doesn't make the wind disappear! But mine has kept its shape rather than flipping up, and I've been able to get on with what I'm out there to do!! For something I have to use so often, that's about the best compliment I can give it. Wouldn't be without it on duty!

Glad to have one handy again.
Had one of these before and used it all the time! People often commented on it too. The previous one got caught as I rushed through a subway turnstile, which was down to me and not a reason to blame the umbrella. This one folds away neatly but gives proper cover once it's up. I love how it looks, nothing too fussy about it. There's a little more weight to it than the flimsiest compact ones, but I appreciate how substantial it feels in use. Glad to have one handy again. Would recommend

Take the five stars as an initial impression, not a long-term report.
Take the five stars as an initial impression, not a long-term report. It arrived today, on a sunny spring day in Cincinnati, and I haven't had rain or wind to try it in. In the hand it feels substantial, more so than several compact umbrellas I've owned. The fabric and frame both look neatly finished. Opening is quick, and the closing button brings the canopy in properly. You still need to press the telescoping shaft down yourself afterwards; automatic closing doesn't include that last step. That seems perfectly reasonable to me. If the feel of it is anything to go by, I think this was money well spent.

This has a solid feel to it.
This has a solid feel to it. I take it along to my children's soccer games every week here in Hawaii. It gives me some welcome shade while I'm watching and is just as useful when the rain turns up. An easy way to be more comfortable at the field. Hoping it stays with me for a long time.

Waiting for the lift used to mean standing in the rain.
We take a lady who uses a wheelchair to and from work. Waiting for the lift used to mean standing in the rain. Now I can pop this up using one hand and keep it over her while we wait. The canopy folds in fast!!! Liked it enough to keep another at home. Very handy to carry

Looks excellent, with a normal sized canopy.
Looks excellent, with a normal sized canopy. One button sends it up and draws the canopy in again, with quite a loud snap. To pack it away you then push the telescoping section down manually. Somewhat weightier than my usual folding umbrella. Finish feels good, no odd smell on opening. Overall I am satisfied with it so far.

This has been so useful I'm considering a few for friends.
This has been so useful I'm considering a few for friends. There is space for two if we stay close. Being able to pop it up and fold the canopy with a button is brilliant getting on and off buses.Just keep a firm grip when it's gusty, a decent sized umbrella still wants to pull at your hand. Very glad to have it.
Elijah Nixon
So far I'm happy with this umbrella.
So far I'm happy with this umbrella. The button sends it open and pulls the canopy closed, then I push the shaft in to pack it away. I picked it up a few weeks ago because sharing one umbrella between us wasn't working very well. We went to a show last night in really heavy rain and this was the one I took. Kept me dry, then folded neatly enough to go under the seat. It's comfortable for one person, though I wouldn't choose it for two. I've ordered another so we can each have one (and avoid deciding who gets this one). A useful compact umbrella, with that small limitation on space.
Gail Hobbs
For everyday rain it has been a really useful purchase.
I got this for a good price and was hoping for something that could cover a couple of people, or maybe three. Once open it's clear this is more of a one person umbrella. That is fine for most of what I need, and it is much less awkward on a busy sidewalk than a huge one would be. Folded up, it still feels quite substantial to carry, so I probably should have checked the measurements instead of just looking at the price. None of that has made me regret buying it. For everyday rain it has been a really useful purchase. Anyone wanting to cover a group at the beach should look for something MUCH larger.
Clifford Benitez
No really windy days to report on yet, but it's been good in rain.
A little bulkier than the tiny folding umbrellas I've used before. No really windy days to report on yet, but it's been good in rain. The ribs seem sturdy and I appreciate opening and collapsing the canopy with a button. My only niggle is tidying it up afterwards.I have to straighten the fabric out quite carefully to get a neat fold, otherwise it makes a bulky bundle. Not a huge problem, but more fiddly than I'd like when I'm trying to put it away quickly.
Kristen Vaughn
My two year old is so proud to hold her umbrella!!!
My two year old is so proud to hold her umbrella!!! She looks very grown up with it. She keeps both hands around the loop handle and loves keeping the rain off herself. I still help put it away because she can't manage that part yet, and her five year old sister likes to help too. We are all happy with how it works and she wants it out whenever it rains!
Guy Bonilla
good umbrella, funny handle, that's about it.
this thing gives you a surprising amount of cover for something that folds up. me and my lady can squeeze underneath, provided neither of us decides our personal space is suddenly sacred. no room for the whole neighbourhood and their shopping, obviously, but for the walk to the office it's plenty!!i've had it out in rain with the wind pushing at it and it didn't do that embarrassing inside out dance. feels pretty damn solid without being some gigantic pole you have to carry everywhere.the loop handle is the one bit i'm not completely sold on, just a slightly odd shape in my hand (there goes a star), but whatever, it's not stopping me using it. if somebody wants to share on a wet pavement they'd better be willing to stand close. good umbrella, funny handle, that's about it.

A very good balance of useful design and a little everyday style.
After years of Florida rain, I've gone through enough umbrellas to be fairly particular about them. This one is a real pleasure to use. The frame feels substantial and opening it is a smooth, quick affair. Long term durability is something I'll have to judge later, of course, though the first impression is encouraging. It also looks smart rather than purely utilitarian. There's something satisfying about carrying an umbrella that actually suits what you're wearing. A very good balance of useful design and a little everyday style.
Kelsey Hatfield
It does have a bit of weight, especially around the handle end.
I ended up getting this umbrella during a shopping trip because the rain started and, naturally, I hadn't brought one with me. I'd been meaning to get a decent umbrella and had spent some time looking through reviews, so it wasn't a completely blind choice. Having to use it straight away gave me a better idea of what I'd bought than opening it in the house would have. The oval handle gives me a secure place to hold on, which I appreciated when the rain came with a few gusts. Nothing turned inside out on that first outing and the canopy kept me dry. I can't speak for every kind of weather, but it handled what I encountered without any fuss. The automatic opening and closing are probably my favorite part. One press gets it open, and another closes the canopy, although that doesn't mean the whole umbrella retracts itself. You still have to compress the telescoping section manually to put it away. There is some resistance doing that, more than I expected at first, but it feels like a firm spring rather than something catching or going wrong. Once I understood that part I had no trouble using it. It does have a bit of weight, especially around the handle end. For carrying all day I would notice it, but for normal use I'd rather have that solid feel than something flimsy. Overall I think I made a good choice, and for what I paid I'm pleased with how it has worked. (Despite looking at umbrellas beforehand, I apparently still need to get caught in the rain before I actually buy one)

Very pleased with the whole lot.
We normally finish the school year by giving the teachers flowers, and although they're always pleased, I keep noticing what happens afterwards. There's an evening of carrying a bouquet along with everything else, then by home time the flowers aren't looking quite as lovely. Or the teacher heads off early with them. So this year we wanted to do something different. Our flower budget is usually $50 each, and I wanted to put that towards a present that would last beyond the holidays, with the same sort of thought behind it but not the same old thing. Umbrellas suddenly seemed such a good idea. I spent ages looking online, going backwards and forwards over the choices before deciding on these. Buying nine when I hadn't actually held one was a little nerve wracking, however the pictures looked lovely so I went ahead. They're beautiful!! Very pleased with the whole lot. The canopies open and close nicely using the button, the handles are comfortable to hold, and there's a substantial feel to them that our cheap umbrellas don't have. Not that they feel particularly heavy, just more there, if that makes sense. My other worry was whether a compact would give enough cover, but opened out these are quite adequate for one person. I wouldn't expect two people to squeeze under comfortably though. For me this is exactly the sort of present that's nice to get, something useful and a little nicer than I'd generally bother buying for myself. The gray has a lovely look without being too showy, and doesn't seem particularly masculine or feminine, although the one we chose it for is a woman.
Trevor Valencia
Overall it has been good to use.
I've not had this very long, so these are just my first impressions. Overall it has been good to use. The first thing I wanted to work out was what the automatic closing actually did. Pressing the button sends the umbrella up and opens the canopy nicely. Another press brings the fabric and ribs together, but the shaft stays extended until I push it down myself. That is how it is intended to work, rather than anything wrong with it, but I had expected the whole umbrella to shorten on that second press. Once I understood that, it was straightforward enough. Next I had a look at how the material is fastened to the frame. With so many ribs I suppose I expected something quite different, whereas it looks much like an ordinary umbrella when you examine the canopy connections. Nothing has come loose, just an observation. When I wrap it up, the ribs don't seem to settle into a completely even bundle. Some sit closer together than others. I'm not saying that is a problem, and none have bent, but it is something I will keep an eye on as I use it more. The other small irritation is getting it back into its sleeve. It fits rather closely and needs a reasonably tidy wrap first. There is no zip or stretchy section to give any extra room. A slightly wider opening would make that part easier. These are mostly things I noticed while inspecting it rather than problems in the rain. For its actual job it has worked well so far, and I'm happy enough with it.

Does the job, rain stays outside where it belongs.
Does the job, rain stays outside where it belongs. One press opens it, another brings the canopy in; afterwards you compress the telescoping part yourself. I'd had the same sort before and was happy with it, so this feels reassuringly familiar. Nothing complicated. Arrived quickly as well. P.S.: The black finish looks like the picture to me. A useful folding size, otherwise much what I expected.
Andres Arroyo
Just waiting for some rain so we can actually try it outside.
The black is very plain, but my grandson is delighted with it. The fabric feels substantial and sits neatly over the ribs. There is plenty of room for him underneath, and enough for me on my own too. Seems well put together. Just waiting for some rain so we can actually try it outside.
Glen Williams
A good umbrella to have around.
A little over two years with this umbrella now and it's still going well. Sturdy-everything operates as it should, with a smooth action when I press the opening button. The oval loop is comfortable to hold and handy for hanging it up. Looks smart too. It gives proper cover without feeling like I'm carrying a huge golf umbrella, and folds away when I don't need it. Not one of those tiny, fiddly umbrellas you feel nervous about using. Just a sensible size for me to stay dry, which is what matters. A good umbrella to have around.
Devin Hurst
I wasn't really shopping for rain cover.
I wanted a feminine looking umbrella for shade, as the medication I take means I need to stay out of direct sunlight. I wasn't really shopping for rain cover. People have complimented it when I'm out with it open, and I feel quite elegant carrying it, which is a nice bonus to having some shade. Enjoying it very much.
Mario Barron
No squeaking from the ribs either, which I appreciate.
This feels lighter than the heavier umbrella I had before, and the loop handle gives me a more comfortable grip. No squeaking from the ribs either, which I appreciate. The inside is black, though I can't tell just by looking how much sun protection that means. It gives pleasant shade, and for the price I don't think I can expect to know everything about it.
Ricardo Moran
Her face said it all, she LOVES it!
Being a grandma means I get to buy things simply because I feel like it. The gray was the whole reason for this one, because gray is my granddaughter's favourite colour and I knew she'd be pleased. I didn't need a more complicated reason than that. Her face said it all, she LOVES it!
Lindsey Wilcox
Compact folding umbrella supplied with a sleeve.
Compact folding umbrella supplied with a sleeve. There is enough canopy for one person, rather than a whole crowd. Pressing the button opens it up and extends the shaft, which is convenient when you want to get covered quickly. Another press folds the canopy in; you then push the telescoping shaft back down by hand. That last step takes a little pressure but is just part of closing it.The shaft feels solid and the many flexible ribs give the canopy a supported feel, although some of the smaller joints look lighter than others. The oval loop handle is comfortable enough for me to hold, and doesn't have the long hook of a traditional umbrella. It looks fairly smart folded or open.I like the way it works, and for what I paid I'm happy with the overall construction.
Reginald Patel
Much more substantial than the folding umbrellas I've used before.
Much more substantial than the folding umbrellas I've used before. The handle turned out to be one of my favorite parts, not just something different to look at. That oval shape gives my fingers a better place to settle instead of having to squeeze a narrow grip all the time. Seattle gets its share of wind and it's coped with the gusts I've met so far. Two of us can tuck in together if we're close. I expected a decent umbrella and got something I really enjoy using.
Vanessa Steele
For the six dollars I paid, I'm very happy with this umbrella.
For the six dollars I paid, I'm very happy with this umbrella. At the over twenty dollars it's listed for now, I would feel differently! It opens to a decent size, not like a tiny bargain store umbrella. Looks good and the construction seems fairly solid. The materials are quite decent, just don't take that to mean heavy duty.My son is pleased with it, and the price I got makes me pleased too. Good purchase at that amount.
Cheryl Melendez
I've only tried it indoors so far, though.
I've been looking for a folding umbrella that gives me a decent amount of cover without being a great long thing to pack. Found this while doing errands yesterday, and the blue was a bonus. My g'kids are in the northwest, so I tend to think about rain whenever I'm getting ready to visit. This fits into my carry-on, which matters to me. Opened up, it seems substantial and the frame feels firm. I've only tried it indoors so far, though. A proper rainy outing will tell me more, but first impressions are good.
Jeanette Dillon
Looked very nice.
Looked very nice. Returned it for a bigger umbrella to share, but nothing wrong with this one! ((I'd picked a compact one without really thinking about how we'd use it. My husband is outdoors a lot, but my idea was mostly for when we go out together. Dinner, shopping, stopping at a cafe...with him holding it and both of us underneath trying to keep our clothes dry. For one person this makes much more sense, and I liked how it looked. I wanted extra room, that was all. Supposed to be for him, really something for me too...:-) Happy Christmas to everyone! Wishing you warm coats, dry feet and peaceful days. God bless you and your families.
Earl Payne
It's a nice umbrella and folds to a sensible size.
The beige is warmer in person than I thought from the picture, where it looked quite pale. Something to keep in mind if the colour matters. It's a nice umbrella and folds to a sensible size. I wouldn't expect a folding frame to take everything you throw at it, so I do handle it with some care. It coped with a blustery outing better than I expected though, which was a pleasant surprise.
Tanner Suarez
It felt steady when the wind picked up.
Umbrellas don't get much use where I live in Arizona, so this was mainly for trips to New York City and elsewhere. It came with me bird watching in Brazil's rain forest recently and did a very good job. The button makes it quick to get the canopy up or down, and packing it away is straightforward. It felt steady when the wind picked up. I could carry it comfortably and put it in my purse between uses. A much nicer umbrella than the ones I've had lately.
Albert Wall
Such a sweet, useful gift!
My sister hosted my baby shower, so I gave her this umbrella as a thank you. We both loved storybook umbrellas growing up and I can imagine my daughter being fascinated by her aunt carrying one when she's older. The loop handle feels substantial and the whole thing has a nicely made feel. Such a sweet, useful gift!
Madeline Mueller
it doesn't shorten the whole umbrella for you.
Five stars for first impressions, not a weather report. It arrived today on a sunny spring day, so I can't say yet how it behaves in rain or wind. There is a substantial feel to it that I like, even though it weighs more than some small umbrellas. The fabric and frame both look carefully finished. The automatic mechanism also works as it should. Pressing the button closes the canopy; it doesn't shorten the whole umbrella for you. The telescoping section needs to be compressed manually afterwards, which is normal operation. Worth knowing before expecting it to do everything! For the feel and ease of use alone, I'm pleased with what I paid.
Victoria Gonzalez
The quality seems good throughout.
Eight of these covered the high school graduation gifts I needed this year. A useful size for students walking around campus in the rain, and reasonably priced when there are several graduation parties to attend. The quality seems good throughout. Everything was neatly packaged, and I was pleased with the purchase.
Briana Weaver
It also felt steady when a breeze picked up.
At home in Arizona I rarely reach for an umbrella, but I wanted something for travelling to New York and elsewhere. I took this one bird watching in Brazil and was glad of it when the rain came. It opens readily and packs away without much fuss. It also felt steady when a breeze picked up. I can put it in my larger purse, so carrying it around is no bother. The quality feels very nice, and it's been one of the better umbrellas I've owned.
Devon Nixon
Thankfully it was in good shape, and it looks lovely!
There was a bit of delivery drama with this umbrella - the outer packaging looked as though it had been roughly handled. I was worried about what I would find inside, so I checked the umbrella carefully when I unpacked it. Thankfully it was in good shape, and it looks lovely! The frame feels solid and the opening action has been smooth. I would judge the umbrella on that, rather than on what happened to the parcel on its way here. Very pleased with the actual product and would be happy to recommend it!
Kent Hanson
Would happily tell anyone to give it a try!
Rain is a fact of life here in Florida, so my daughter needed a decent umbrella! This one: Opens easily at the buttonGives good shoulder coverageLooks stylishFeels VERY solid. She loves using it and I liked it enough to get a second one for myself. Would happily tell anyone to give it a try!
Mercedes Carney
Easily my favorite umbrella for the rain we usually get.
I wanted a strong everyday umbrella, not one of those enormous ones that gets in everybody's way. For walking around the city this has been just right. I had it with me on the pier in windy rain, wearing my rain jacket and trousers with the hood up as well. There were other people out watching the weather, so I wasn't the only one standing there getting rained on. I held it facing into the wind, with both hands for a while, and it kept giving me useful cover. That was enough to make a good impression on me. It feels substantial but still manageable, which is what I wanted. Easily my favorite umbrella for the rain we usually get.
Jackson Drake
Would recommend.
I spent ages comparing umbrellas for my 2-year-old daughter. Quite a few of the cute little ones sounded more like toys than something that would last. This one appealed to me because it looked simple and sturdy, and that is how it feels in person. She can work the button with me beside her, and I push the shaft back down afterwards. She likes playing with it as much as taking it into the rain. Nothing has given us trouble so far. Would recommend.
Gail Drake
The pink photographed beautifully too :] So glad I picked this one!
I chose this pink umbrella for our engagement photos and couldn't wait to see it! The size turned out just right, and it felt much nicer than I expected!! I didn't mind spending the money once I saw how well it was put together. It seems like something I'll be able to keep using for ages, not only for the pictures. The pink photographed beautifully too :] So glad I picked this one!
Fernando Delacruz
Time will tell how durable it is, but so far I'm impressed.
10/10 I wasn't expecting so much cover from a folding umbrella, lovely surprise! Two can fit underneath if we stay close, and it's great just for me. Time will tell how durable it is, but so far I'm impressed. For packing away, a button press folds the canopy; shortening the shaft takes a firm push by hand afterwards. I think the money was very well spent.
Mallory Roberts
The construction feels good too.
I usually like a bit of colour, just not the sort that looks made for a small child. Black is a change for me, but this looks smart enough for work. The construction feels good too. After dealing with heavy rain & wind before, I pay attention to the frame underneath (lesson learned!) and this one feels reassuringly solid.
Nicholas Pugh
This is a sturdy feeling umbrella and the plain design suits me well.
After reading some of the comments about umbrellas of this size, I wanted to put in my view. This is a sturdy feeling umbrella and the plain design suits me well. The canopy opens at a press of the button and another press collapses it, but you still have to compress the shaft yourself to pack it away. That part is normal, not a failed closing action. What puzzles me is the complaints about weight. I've carried plenty of umbrellas with similar coverage that felt just as heavy, and this one is perfectly reasonable to me. It isn't some tiny emergency umbrella, so I wasn't expecting it to feel like nothing. If you're comfortable carrying a proper umbrella, I don't think the weight is worth getting worked up about!
Tara Bell
Bought two hoping for something that would cope better on windy days.
Bought two hoping for something that would cope better on windy days. They've done well so far. One turned inside out in a particularly sharp gust, but went back into shape without fuss. Not completely windproof, then, but still the ones I reach for before going out.
Bailey Hanna
if she thinks there might be rain.
My daughter had this umbrella for Easter last year and takes it out at every opportunity, esp. if she thinks there might be rain. I wouldn't call it flimsy, though it feels more like an everyday umbrella than a really heavy duty one. She needs a bit of patience getting the fabric folded neatly again. Still works nicely, it's just one of those small faffs.
Adam Fritz
Haven't tested it in really strong wind yet.
Haven't tested it in really strong wind yet.But you can walk alongside your lady without leaving a whole shoulder out in the rain, if you stay close. My hands aren't small and the oval grip works fine for me. No looking like a cheap *ss with some flimsy scrap overhead. This has a solid, confident look and somehow makes you stand taller too. You might even earn a jealous look or two. Thats not always a bad sign. I'd say get yourself one.
Zachary Campbell
So far it has coped well with rain and gusts.
A little smaller across than some folding umbrellas I've owned, but that makes it easier to carry. So far it has coped well with rain and gusts. The button handles opening and canopy closing; I push the shaft back down myself. There's more going on than in my old manual umbrella, so it's too early to judge long-term durability.
Judith Caldwell
Delivery was prompt.
Delivery was prompt. Neat little umbrella that would make a useful stocking present. Handy to leave in a backpack or handbag so an unexpected afternoon shower isn't a nuisance. I wouldn't expect a compact umbrella to shelter everything in driving rain, but for everyday backup it makes sense. Living on the rainy gulf coast, I like being able to keep one nearby without planning around it.
Max Craig
Good value as far as I am concerned.
In NYC you see umbrellas going inside out everywhere when the wind gets up, so I am fairly particular. This one I haven't had that trouble with in ordinary windy rain, it feels solid over my head. A bit heavy carrying around all day, but when the rain starts I don't regret putting it in the bag. Good value as far as I am concerned.
