The open & canopy close button is working very good.
A good strong umbrella finally, I was looking for one for a long time and this is the right kind for me. Opens out and give plenty of cover, already tried it when the rain came down in buckets and I stayed dry. The open & canopy close button is working very good. In the end money well spent....

If yours always disappear, I wouldn't bother spending more.
It took me a while to admit I don't actually misplace umbrellas that often. The forgettable cheap ones, yes, but I've kept others for years and they are just looking tired now. I spent far too long reading reviews before choosing this one, and I'm pleased I did. I like the cream white, and it is easy to pick out amongst all the dark umbrellas. Folded, it is manageable to carry, and opened it gives me enough room without feeling enormous. The button action is smooth both ways, although that doesn't mean it puts itself completely away. You still have to compress the telescoping section yourself, and I need a little effort to get it down and wrapped neatly for the sleeve. That's my only real reservation. I don't like spending extra on things I might lose, but something I expect to keep seems worth paying for. If yours always disappear, I wouldn't bother spending more. For someone who hangs onto theirs, though, I think it is a sensible buy.

As for wind, a little common sense is still needed.
I had the umbrella ready for Mother's Day, which was the reason for buying it in the first place. After reading a mixture of comments I had gone back and forth about choosing it as a present, so perhaps a few practical observations will help somebody else deciding.
The pink is lovely in person, and makes it feel a little more special than a purely practical purchase. Underneath there is generous room for one person. Two could squeeze together, but I would not expect quite the same protection for both. Give it room when pressing the button! It opens quite briskly, so keep it away from faces and anything immediately in front of you. I worked it several times before wrapping it, mostly to familiarise myself with how it closes. Pressing again draws the canopy together, then the telescoping section needs to be pushed in by hand. That last part is worth knowing rather than assuming the button does absolutely everything.
As for wind, a little common sense is still needed. Holding the underside straight into a gust is not something I would deliberately do, and if the weather gets really unpleasant I would sooner find shelter than test an umbrella to its limit.
My mother was delighted. Flowers would have been an easy choice, but something attractive that she can keep using seemed a nicer present this time. Hopefully she will have it for a long while. It looks cheerful when carried and is useful for shade too, not only wet days. With my background in art history, colour and appearance probably weighed more heavily in the decision than they needed to! In the end the pink appealed to me, and seeing her reaction made me glad I chose it.

After it didn't come when expected I had to get in touch and it turned out they couldn't trace the parcel although it was showing as sent so another one was arranged. I haven't been out with it yet, only opened it indoors, but the frame feels more solid than my previous umbrella. A bit frustrating getting it here but it looks encouraging and I am hoping it will cope better on a windy day.

Looks like this will be the umbrella I reach for now.
Looks like this will be the umbrella I reach for now. The closed loop handle feels solid and has a slightly gadgety look to it. Opened up, the blue canopy is more old-fashioned than I expected, in a good way. The button sits right where my thumb wants to find it.The sleeve seems nicely put together, though I can't see myself patiently packing a wet brolly into it every time. A bit of personality without being silly, and it does the actual umbrella job well. Reasonable money too. Might get another as a holiday gift.

I've got a longer umbrella as well as this folding one. Both have been useful.***update:Still have this one after the move from Germany to the states, although it didn't see much use for a while. Now in Florida it stays in my car and comes in handy again. It's holding up fine, just worth saying it hasn't been used constantly over those three years

The oval handle is a pleasant part of this umbrella.
The oval handle is a pleasant part of this umbrella. I find it comfortable to hold, and the closed carabiner loop gives it a different look from a hooked handle. The button operates both the opening and the closing of the canopy. After closing, the telescoping shaft needs to be compressed by hand to reset it. This is straightforward once you have done it.The canopy has a black underside, with gray on the outside, a restrained combination that looks quite smart. There are 30 flexible ribs supporting it, and the finish around them looks tidy.Overall, this is an attractive, practical folding umbrella. The details are simple rather than decorative, and it is convenient to carry when folded.

You still need the umbrella.
If you open this over your head on a miserable day you can pretend you've hired your own patch of good weather. Not really. You still need the umbrella. But my sister-in-law was so pleased with it as a gift she actually bothered to send a thankyou message, so... that counts for something. A little bulkier folded than I'd imagined, but pretty, useful, and makes a wet day feel less miserable. Small magic.
Grace Morris
It is solid and works nicely.
Not much to complain about with the umbrella itself. It is solid and works nicely. The part that had me wondering was the communication. I had sent a message about the order and after a few days with no answer I was getting a bit impatient. Then I came home from work and there was the umbrella, all in good condition. So things were moving along even though I hadn't heard anything. It would have been nice to know what was happening rather than sitting there guessing, but in the end I am pleased with the umbrella and how it all turned out.
Lee Reed
The umbrella arrived promptly and has the solid feel I expected.
The umbrella arrived promptly and has the solid feel I expected. There were fold marks in the fabric, so the first impression wasn't quite as tidy as I'd hoped. After looking it over, though, I could see it was clean and new. Those marks seem normal for a folded umbrella, and the construction itself leaves me satisfied with the purchase.

For travel where wet weather comes with a breeze, I'd pack this one.
For travel where wet weather comes with a breeze, I'd pack this one. Bargain folding umbrellas haven't been much use to me. This costs more, but the sturdier frame makes that worthwhile. It earns its space in the bag rather than being something I carry and can't rely on.
Krystal Hart
More coverage than I had pictured.
More coverage than I had pictured. I clearly didn't pay enough attention to the description. Once open it feels like a proper umbrella rather than a tiny folding one. We get plenty of rain here, so that's welcome. It covers my shoulders and my long hair nicely. It looks lovely too, and I feel rather nice walking with it!
Jordan Baker
This umbrella hasn't failed me.
I've used mine for years. Still does'nt make sense to me why more people haven't got one. I work downtown in Chicago's Loop, and on rainy days the bins have wrecked umbrellas in them while people wrestle with the wind. I keep going with a smile. This umbrella hasn't failed me.
Johnathan Howell
Five years of use and I still enjoy the button.
The little duffle I carry to work always has this umbrella tucked inside, ready for rain on the commute. Five years of use and I still enjoy the button. I ask friends how they'd close it after I've opened it, then press the same button to collapse the canopy. That usually surprises them! You still have to compress the telescoping stem yourself before putting it away, so it isn't entirely hands off. Even when it's dry outside I sometimes have a little go with that button, which probably says something about me.

Pink was a big part of the appeal, I'll admit it :-).
Pink was a big part of the appeal, I'll admit it :-). The things that won me over though were how much cover you get once it's up, all those flexible ribs, one press to get it open, and a grip I can actually keep hold of. Had rain coming sideways a bit at the bus stop and it stayed the right way round, unlike some I've used. a girl there asked if she could share the shelter and suddenly i felt considerably cooler than a person waiting for a bus ought to feel ;-). It makes the usual wet miserable days a little less miserable. not saying an umbrella improves your whole life, but dry-er is better (is that how you write that?). My one little issue is putting it away at work. It's compact compared to a full length one, still doesn't sit neatly across my little locker though, so I end up leaving it in the break room sometimes. then i'm thinking somebody might walk away with my nice pink umbrella. yes, apparently i worry about umbrellas now. At least the oval loop gives me something to hang it by, which helps with finding somewhere for it. also don't take my bus stop experience as me saying it's for absolutely wild weather. A friend has the same one and we both prefer not to go testing that theory. I'll take normal rainy days, thanks. It's a handy size to bring along and enough cover when I need it. locker moaning aside . . . . . VERY HAPPY!!!!!

A little portable shade, hurrah!
Growing up in Arizona, I knew plenty about sunshine. Most of my grown up years have been in the Northwest, but my folks are still down there. Wanted something smart to shade me on visits. Reckon I've found it! Easy enough to carry, nicely put together, and that plain black is just my sort of thing...A little portable shade, hurrah!
Melinda Ward
Overall I am entirely satisfied.
It gives a good impression of solidity, especially around the ribs, and feels as though it should last. There is some flexibility in the frame, which is reassuring when a breeze catches it. The overall appearance is quite elegant and holding it is pleasant as well. Getting damp fabric neatly back into the sleeve takes a little patience, but that is a very small reservation. Overall I am entirely satisfied.

Rain doesn't land on your head.
My wife and I have a soft spot for the romantic umbrella thing on television, so I bought her this for Valentine's Day. I wanted pink and this seemed a reasonably priced way to do it. Basic review: Pink. Opens up. Rain doesn't land on your head.More detail, since apparently I have more to say, is that the canopy is bigger than I imagined for something that folds down. Not a gigantic two person shelter, but a comfortable size for one. There's a reassuring amount of structure under there and the material doesn't feel thin or flimsy. It has a bit of weight to it, which I suppose goes with that solid feel, although it isn't the smallest item in her bag. That's my main reservation. For normal rainy days it seems a good choice and she likes it, which is really the point of the present.Overall I'm glad I bought it. Just remember it will open indoors if you press the button. No protection from the bad luck that supposedly causes, so consider yourself warned about that.

why keep buying little umbrella's that barely make it through a fortnight. I've got a few of these around for the rain in NY, and they're all still working. Losing one in a taxi or leaving it at a bar is probably how it'll go. One handed opening is handy, and there's a decent amount of cover packed into something that folds away small.
Levi Rojas
Opening and closing the canopy is so, so easy.
we've had this nearly two years and it has lasted really well! Opening and closing the canopy is so, so easy. My boys manage the button without any trouble. Been thinking about a second one for months and finally ordered it..nice to have another! Thank you for an umbrella that has been such a useful purchase.
Elaine Vaughan
Maybe that helps someone deciding.
only just got it, have run it through opening and closing quite a few times and all is fine. looked over where the fabric meets the ribs, nothing looks loose. the material has a sturdier feel than my cheap umbrellas, which makes me hopeful about how it'll hold up. price was well below similar ones I'd considered. wanted a step up from the seven-dollar sort without spending a fortune, and this seems a sensible middle ground. The opening/closing button needs a deliberate press, NOT something I keep setting off by touching it. Some of these checks were because of less favorable comments I'd seen, although most were positive. Maybe that helps someone deciding.

Having a sleeve to put it in is handy too.
A friend's umbrella had given up, so I bought her this one. She is delighted! Folded away it looks quite compact, then there's a good amount of cover when opened. She keeps it in the car door without it getting in the way. Having a sleeve to put it in is handy too. A very worthwhile buy and something I'd happily recommend.

A very happy girl with her present.
My granddaughter LOVES carrying an umbrella, so I was delighted to find one that felt properly made! She was thrilled to unwrap her oddly shaped present and try it for herself. My slight reservation about the "brolly" is its length when folded. It sticks out of her little bag instead of fitting right inside, but she doesn't seem bothered. A very happy girl with her present.
Gavin Perkins
feels solid, looks nice.
Used this for shade and it makes a real difference, i felt much more comfortable underneath. feels solid, looks nice. the button is quite firm so i have to give it a proper press, not just tap it. to put it away i press again to bring the canopy in, then put a palm at each end and push the shaft back together. that part is done by hand. keep your grip when you open it as it comes out with a little kick. i also held it towards the sun to have a look underneath, the black underside looks quite dark and the shade is good. happy with how it works.

As for weight, I honestly don't find it an issue.
After seeing quite a few comments about umbrella weight, I wanted to add my experience with this one. It's a sturdy, plain black umbrella, which suits me better than a busy pattern. The flexible ribs give the canopy a substantial feel. The button sends it up AND brings the canopy back down again; shortening the pole is the part you do yourself, by pressing it together. That is normal, not the automatic action giving up halfway. As for weight, I honestly don't find it an issue. I've carried plenty of similarly sized umbrellas that felt no lighter, and this one is comfortable for an ordinary walk. It isn't a tiny featherweight thing, but that's obvious once you hold it. I can not understand expecting something substantial and then being outraged that you can feel it in your hand. Some perspective please!
Brooke Herman
The price made this a very good buy.
The price made this a very good buy. It feels sturdy, opens up to a useful size, and is much nicer to have in the rain than the smaller umbrellas I was looking at for more money. One little thing I did notice was a new-material smell around the grip. Not awful, just a peculiar smell, and I could still notice it on my hand after carrying it. It has become much less obvious over the few weeks I've owned it, so I don't imagine it will hang around forever. I wouldn't pass up the umbrella over that. For what I paid, having something solid that keeps me covered is worth putting up with a bit of an odd smell until it goes away altogether.

Used it for the first time today.
Used it for the first time today. Very satisfying. The canopy fabric looks good and the dark inside is nicely finished. The central rod feels firm, the ribs are evenly placed. It behaved well in a breeze. Only I would like a little more length in the rod holding the cover above me. Otherwise very satisfied, good quality for what it costs.

A little shade and something for the showers was all I needed.
The tricycle is why I went looking for "sun and rain umbrella in the first place..and.. I thought it'd be fun too. This is a handheld one, not a canopy fixed over the trike, so mine comes out when I've stopped. Packs away neatly enough to bring along without much fuss. People seem amused to see me sitting there with an umbrella up, which makes me smile as well. A little shade and something for the showers was all I needed.
Michele Martin
Love the look, and the beige works with most things I wear.
I went browsing for a new umbrella and ended up wanting this one straight away. Love the look, and the beige works with most things I wear. A little different looking too. We're still having snow here so I haven't properly used it in rain...can't speak for how long it'll last yet, but I couldn't resist it!
Donna Tucker
It gives me plenty of cover and has handled wind well.
It gives me plenty of cover and has handled wind well. The gray goes with my kids' high school colors, and it's useful watching their games when the rain really comes down. Hoping for at least another three years from it, which seems reasonable after the workout it's had these past few months.

We get some serious rain on the gulf coast.
We get some serious rain on the gulf coast. Used this during a heavy downpour this week and it felt balanced and easy to managed. My shoes were soaked, but myself and my files stayed dry walking uphill to the prison entrance (I'm a lawyer). The opening button works smoothly and the umbrella feels sturdy in your hand. Shutting the canopy as I went inside was simple too, which matters when you're carrying papers. Packs down to a sensible size and seems well put together. There will be more coming home for family and the office!!!
Adam Gonzales
She really likes it.
This was a gift for a friend who usually carries a little folding umbrella. We got caught in a sudden shower together and I let her use mine. She wears glasses and was delighted that she could keep them dry without holding the umbrella right down over her face. That made choosing a gift rather easy, I ordered this one for her and she has been taking it along whenever rain looks likely. She really likes it. I wear glasses too, so I understand not wanting to wipe them every few steps. There is enough cover for one person and it's still a folding umbrella she can pack away afterwards. I would reccomend it, a useful gift rather than something that will just sit in a cupboard.
Ross Kaiser
The weight is there, but the compromise seems sensible.
Haven't put this through heavy rain yet, so this is mostly a first impression. The ribs and moving parts look substantial for something that folds away, and nothing about it looks particularly flimsy. I'll add more when I've used it properly. I like having a manageable umbrella rather than lugging a full length one around looking like I'm off to marshal a parade. The weight is there, but the compromise seems sensible. More later.
Ernest Weaver
It seems sturdy, but it is heavier than I expected.
I had to chase the delivery a couple of times. It seems sturdy, but it is heavier than I expected. I intended it for my mom, though I will probably keep it myself and find her something lighter. The button opening and canopy closing are useful. The gray color is decent too. Easy to clip onto a bag with that handle, but you still notice the weight. Better for days when I know it will rain than carrying about just for a little drizzle.
Ariel Branch
SO-O-O nice not having the sun right on you.
I have a larger umbrella too, but this folding one has become my favourite for watching the grandchildren play baseball and softball in summer. The shade is GREAT when you're sitting out there for a whole game...SO-O-O nice not having the sun right on you. There's enough cover for me without taking along a huge umbrella, and it hasn't been a bother to carry. Useful when a shower comes over, too. (Being the prepared one for once :-) ) I do like a bargain, so I thought twice about paying this much for an umbrella. Having used it, I'm glad I did. It feels substantial and the quick opening is handy when I'm settling down to watch. I've already told other people about it, which is usually a good sign. A really useful buy.

Quite a bit of umbrella comes out of a fairly small bundle.
Quite a bit of umbrella comes out of a fairly small bundle. The frame feels solid and the button action is smooth. I'm not entirely sold on the oval loop for a handle, or maybe I just haven't found the best way to hold it yet, but it doesn't really get in the way. Folded, the umbrella tucks under the straps on my briefcase without much fuss. For anyone wanting decent coverage without carrying a full length stick umbrella around, I'd say this is worth a look.

No sharp bits have made themselves known, either.
After a few unremarkable umbrellas went missing, we thought having one we could actually recognise might help. Cream White is certainly easier to pick out among our things. Folded down, this is about sixteen inches long, more a bag-sized bundle than a pocket umbrella. The handle is an oval carabiner loop, closed rather than the usual open hook, and there is a comfortable amount of room for the fingers. I straighten out the fabric before rolling it together; a little care there saves trying to stuff an untidy bundle away later. We always look at how the canopy is supported, because loose-looking fabric around the ribs is something we dislike. There are plenty of ribs here and the fabric sits neatly against them. The button is straightforward and opening it hasn't involved any wrestling. No sharp bits have made themselves known, either. Closing needs a brief explanation: another press folds the canopy, then you push the telescoping section back into the handle yourself. That last part is firm but manageable. Once rolled up, it goes into a tote without taking over the bag, although ours will probably spend more time in a convenient gap in the car. That's where umbrellas tend to end up in this household. The supplied sleeve is useful for keeping the folded bundle together, provided you bother to put it back on. I wouldn't assume that putting a wet umbrella in it makes everything around it safe from damp. We are not especially good at keeping sleeves with their original occupants. (My wife says the cat probably knows where they all go, which would explain quite a lot)
Samantha Ellis
The quality feels excellent on this one.
The quality feels excellent on this one. Opens with a press of the button and has felt solid when the wind picks up. For an umbrella that folds down, it compares surprisingly well with my full length one (I usually expect those to feel much stronger). Very pleased with it.
Katherine Burns
Solid, sturdy umbrella.
Solid, sturdy umbrella. works well, spring is quite firm so resetting the stem needs a proper push, nothing complicated. weighs around 390 grams. blue looks smart and the frame feels strong. kept me covered in heavey rain! happy with it and would be confident recommending it to someone else.
Anne Bush
This has turned out to be an excellent choice!
Seattle gives an umbrella plenty to do, and mine goes out for work as well as hiking. I wanted something I could use for both rather than a big awkward thing that stayed at home. This has turned out to be an excellent choice! It has stayed the right way round in the windy weather I've used it in, and the ribs have enough give that it doesn't feel rigid and brittle. For sunny walks it's useful as well. Having the canopy between me and the sun is much more comfortable than walking with the sun on my head the whole time. It's had regular use and still looks good, which matters more to me than a fancy description. Would I buy it again? Already have - there's a spare for me, one for my wife, and I bought one for someone who had just moved here. A practical gift in this part of the world! Not the cheapest umbrella, but I think the usefulness justifies the money.
Arthur Blevins
Seems good value.
Everything about it has been a pleasant surprise. Seems good value.I've only taken it out a few times, so getting used to the button still, but it opens to a decent size and feels properly made. The green is nice and rich, and the ribs feel substantial for something that folds away. No complaints from me andI'd happily recommend it. A bit of wind hasn't made it feel flimsy either.Very happy with this umbrella, would have no hesitation buying another. Excellent!!

I ordered eight gray umbrellas for my wedding party to carry rather than bouquets. I was thrilled when I opened them up and saw how lovely they looked together. They feel really nicely made and the gray looks just as I'd hoped from the pictures. I took a photo straight away to show my bridesmaids, who are now looking forward to carrying them on the day. Each comes with a sleeve so I can keep them covered until we need them. I'm absolutely delighted with these and pleased I remembered to include one for myself as well ;)

That part is awkward beside the car in the rain.
. . . nice umbrella, though finishing the close is hard on my arthritic hands. The button brings the canopy in, but shortening the shaft needs a firm push. That part is awkward beside the car in the rain. I can manage with both hands, just wish it needed less effort before putting it on the back seat.

It has been handy when it rains too.
I live in Los Angeles and the sun really gets to me. Sunscreen or not, too much time out leaves me feeling faint and burnt...so I carry shade now. These umbrellas have been really useful and hold up well. Ordering number three because airport security took my last one coming back from the Dominican Republic, apparently the metal made it a possible "weapon"! Won't be packing this one in the carry-on again. It has been handy when it rains too.

I'd rather carry this than a long stick umbrella.
Doesn't fold down to nothing, but there's looooads of room when it's open! I'd rather carry this than a long stick umbrella. Two of us can tuck under if we stay close. Update: More than a year on and I'm still using it constantly. Some wear showing on the metal now, nothing that stops it working. For something that comes everywhere with me, that's fair enough.
Alice Glenn
Probably my favourite umbrella so far.
Probably my favourite umbrella so far. There's plenty of room over me and it has felt steady in the windy rain I've been out in. A slightly softer grip would make it even nicer to hold, though that's hardly a big complaint. The canopy fabric seems good and a shake gets most of the water off.......still let it air out before putting it away. Feels like something I'll be keeping for a while and I'd recommend it
Bonnie Benjamin
As an umbrella, it works well.
We've had a lot of rain recently and this has done a good job of keeping me dry. One star off because I find dealing with the sleeve a bit of a nuisance once everything is wet. It is fine putting it away carefully at home, but when I leave the car in the rain I don't always take the sleeve along. Then I have a damp umbrella to carry after the shower has passed. The button gathering the canopy is useful; you still compress the stem yourself. Nothing wrong with that, I would just prefer a slightly less fiddly pack-up. As an umbrella, it works well.
