It isn't a weightlifting exercise!

After seeing so many comments about the weight of umbrellas like this, I wanted to put in my own experience. The design appeals to me, and the frame seems substantial rather than flimsy. Press the button and it opens right up. Press again and the canopy folds in, then you have to push the telescoping pole down yourself. What puzzles me is how much fuss people make about carrying it. I've owned folding umbrellas that weighed just as much and never thought twice about them. It isn't a weightlifting exercise! I'd rather carry something solid than an umbrella that feels like paper. Some of the complaining is ridiculous... You would think people were being asked to carry a suitcase instead of an umbrella. Please don't let those comments put you off!

Very pleased with it.

My 4yr. old is thrilled to have an umbrella and always wants to bring it along. It feels nicely made, and the handle button means she isn't trying to find a little metal catch up inside it. Press it to open, then press again to bring the canopy in. I help push the pole back into its short position afterwards. She likes being in charge of the button herself, which I think is most of the attraction. Very pleased with it.

Took it camping last weekend and was glad it came along.

Took it camping last weekend and was glad it came along. My wife and I sat close together under it by the camp fire during some light rain and stayed comfortable. I like how much room it gives for something that folds down. Didn't have much wind to test it in, but it seemed nicely put together to me.

It is my second one, after being given the first.

Rain doesn't usually fall neatly straight down for me, so an umbrella has to be more than something held above my head. Angle it too low and I can't see, hold it too high and the rain finds me. This one gives me a useful spread of cover without having to pull it down in front of my face! It is my second one, after being given the first. A very useful thing to buy for someone, or keep yourself! Ready for another rainy day

Both love theirs!

I picked up two for Christmas presents, one for my Mother and one for my sister. Both love theirs! The finish and construction look very good in person. They've held up nicely on windy days too, which DOES matter with an umbrella. A worthwhile buy for the money, in my opinion.

A few people came over to ask about it while we were there.

Nearly a year of use now and this umbrella has earned its place in my bag! Mostly I wanted it for shade, though it has had its share of rainy days as well. Being able to stand under it instead of in direct sun makes such a difference. I took it back East for a lacrosse tournament and was especially grateful for it in that hot, humid weather. A few people came over to ask about it while we were there. It still opens neatly and the fabric looks good despite being carried around so often. I expected a useful umbrella, but I've ended up using it far more than I thought!

I'm so fond of this umbrella!

I'm so fond of this umbrella! the cream white looks really fresh in person, not dull as I'd expected from the photo. When I first opened it I wondered if it was too much umbrella for me. A few uses later, I appreciate having that extra room above me. The oval handle is a nice finishing touch too, and feels good to carry.

A good choice of gift...

For Christmas I replaced my wife's lost umbrella with another of the same kind. I'd bought her the first one two years earlier and she was sorry to lose it. She likes the classy gray look and has received several nice comments. It keeps her hair and shoulders dry without being awkward to carry around. The folding size is a real advantage over a long umbrella, and the frame feels dependable. A good choice of gift...

Still went back for another because I like using it that much!

Gives me plenty of cover when I'm walking, and hasn't flipped inside out in the wind I've had so far. It folds down, but is still too long for my small backpack so I have to carry it. Unfortunately I've left 2 of them on the train now, which is entirely my own doing. Still went back for another because I like using it that much!

She thinks it looks lovely and wanted to try it straight away.

My 9 year old daughter was thrilled to get this for Christmas. She thinks it looks lovely and wanted to try it straight away. The price was fair and it came quickly. I wondered about the padded envelope at first, but there was extra wrapping around the umbrella inside and it reached us in good shape. All smiles here :)

Had one before and it disappeared.

Had one before and it disappeared. Might have been from the back of my covered pickup while I was at a motel, can't say for sure. No hard feelings if somebody has it now, at least they have a useful umbrella. Replaced it with this and I'm happy again. People notice it out on the golf course too.

My wife took one look when I opened it, "bit big isn't it"!

My wife took one look when I opened it, "bit big isn't it"! For me alone there's room, for both of us you have to stand close. We were doing errands and had a walk across the car park in pouring rain, waited about but it wasn't easing off. Eventually tried it together and she wasn't so bothered about the size then. Not huge coverage for two, but enough to make that walk less miserable. Folded away it's easy to carry and the weight was a nice surprise as well. Pink is cheerful when everything round you is grey and wet

This is easily my favourite umbrella so far.

I'd been thinking about getting an umbrella for a couple of years, and wanted decent coverage rather than the smallest travel option. Having this one has really changed my lunchtime walks. I don't enjoy being out in strong sun, especially on my daily break from work. My route is about two and a half miles beside the water, with hardly any shade along it. Coming back sweaty with darker arms and those odd marks around where my sunglasses sit was getting old (not a great look). It feels sturdy and has handled the breezes on that walk well. Open, it can feel a bit much for just wandering about, though. I've also ordered a smaller umbrella so I can choose between them. Some days the sun doesn't seem particularly strong when I'm setting off and I stand there wondering if I want to bring this one. Something smaller would be handy then, even though I really appreciate the coverage once I'm out there. This is easily my favourite umbrella so far. I've taken it out in heavy rain as well, and there's plenty of canopy to shelter under. The size is definitely welcome when it's pouring. Very happy with this umbrella, and I'd tell anyone tired of walking in the sun to give it a try!

Would recommend for anyone wanting an everyday umbrella.

It reached me quickly and was packed well and everything looked tidy and the size was right for what I needed. Very nice. Would recommend for anyone wanting an everyday umbrella. Note: the oval grip felt a bit unusual at first, but I've got used to holding it now.

I LOVE having an umbrella I actually like again.

I LOVE having an umbrella I actually like again. The one I had years ago was stolen. I'd tried replacing it before and the packaging on that purchase was a disappointment, so I was nervous about ordering another. Went ahead tho -- and this one was packed really well. Nothing to worry about. It feels very solid and somehow makes a wet day more cheerful (other people seem to enjoy it too). I wouldn't usually spend this much on an umbrella, but I missed having one that I liked this much. For me it was worth paying a bit extra to finally replace the one that went missing.

Julian Small

Wider open than I pictured.

Wider open than I pictured. I knew it folded down, but I'd somehow imagined that meant a much smaller canopy... turns out there is a fair amount of umbrella above you. I'm glad of the cover in rain, just a little conscious of other people when the pavement is crowded. Not enormous, but bigger than I had in my head.

Molly Wolf

Lovely umbrella!

I used this umbrella with my Halloween costume in NYC and it really finished the look. People kept stopping for photos and knew straight away which character I was meant to be. It feels nicely made, too, not just something I'll put away after dressing up. I can use it as an everyday umbrella afterwards, which makes me even happier with it. Lovely umbrella!

Megan Jacobson

opens bigger than it looks folded.

the umbrella itself is good quality, no issue with that, I just hadn't thought about the space needed. at an outdoor weekend convention there were people close all round me, and I kept having to apologise as I moved. opens bigger than it looks folded. still glad to have it but, in a crowd you do need to pay attention.

Hayden Kaiser

I use this as a sun umbrella rather than something decorative.

I use this as a sun umbrella rather than something decorative. It is fairly substantial, not one of those dainty parasols. The beige outside is plain and the dark underside is unobtrusive. I jokingly call it my little walking roof. Not glamorous, but I care more about having some shade over my face and eyes. On a sunny day that makes being out much more comfortable. I wouldn't want to be without an umbrella now. Once or twice I've opened it between my poodle and a loose dog, which was enough to make the other dog hesitate. I've also held it to the side when somebody coughed nearby, my own peculiar "sneeze screen". Whether that achieves much I couldn't say, but it makes me feel better. It has uses I never thought of when buying it. For me the price has been justified. Taking it on a plane was easier with it folded down, rather than having a long umbrella to deal with. I would buy another. Update: Two years of regular use and everything is still together. I should have used the supplied sleeve more faithfully when putting it away; I think it would look fresher now if I had.

Wendy Briggs

For me it is a good everyday umbrella.

My 8-year-old son was quite excited about getting an umbrella that could open at the press of a BUTTON. The gray looks rather grown-up, which appeals to him, and he was certainly pleased when he first tried it. However, although it folds, it is still a fairly substantial umbrella for a child to carry around. He sometimes reaches for a smaller one instead. Closing the canopy is easy, but resetting the telescoping part takes more of a push than he would like. I've used it myself and find it comfortable, with a useful amount of shelter when it rains. For me it is a good everyday umbrella. If I were choosing purely for a child again, I would look more carefully at the folded size and how easy it is for small hands to manage.

Jonathon Cunningham

Pleased with the umbrella itself.

The delivery tracking for this Christmas present was a hassle. I had OTHER things to do besides keep checking it. I saved the details in one place and checked once a day instead, which put an end to all that fussing. Got it wrapped when it arrived and was happy to give it. Looks nice, works nicely. Pleased with the umbrella itself.

Shelby Rojas

Probably best umbrella I've owned.

Probably best umbrella I've owned. My parents saw how steady mine stayed in the wind and wanted me to hand it over, so I ended up getting another one. I honestly don't understand why more people in wet, windy places still put up with flimsy umbrellas. It isn't the cheapest option, but the extra money seems worth it for something that feels this solid. I'd rather pay a bit more once and enjoy using it. Well worth having.

Marcia Stephenson

Best umbrella for my commute!

Best umbrella for my commute! I use public transportation and this is the one I want with me when the rain starts. It keeps me covered while I'm waiting, then folds down for the ride. The BEST part is not feeling like I'm carrying some enormous thing around all day. It has dealt with everyday wind well, though I still take care when it really blows. Definitely recommend it for other public transportation users.

Leslie Calderon

My old umbrella had faded and was becoming awkward to open and close.

The loop handle persuaded me to choose it, as it seemed convenient for carrying. My old umbrella had faded and was becoming awkward to open and close. This one moves smoothly and the green is a calm, pleasant colour. A carry sleeve is included too. There is a noticeable material smell, so anyone who is sensitive to that might want to keep it in mind.

Kerry Tate

Good for rainy little walks and the photos that follow.

My toddler wanted an umbrella and was very definite about green, so that decided it.DURABLEWe've had this about a year now. It's been knocked about a fair bit and is still in one piece.OPENINGI do the button part for her, as this is a proper umbrella rather than a toy. The canopy pops up, and the same button gathers it back in. Then I shorten it myself.HANDLEThe closed oval is quite different from a hook, but easy for me to keep hold of when we're walking together. It has survived being dropped without needing a repair. Good for rainy little walks and the photos that follow.

Samantha Greer

I remember wondering whether the handle would be too small.

I wanted more cover than my old automatic umbrella gave me, without having to carry a long one around. This comes fairly close to what I had in mind. At roughly 105cm across when open, it's bigger than my previous one, although I had imagined it would be a little wider still (I should probably have measured first). It also takes up a bit more bag space than I expected. I went for gray because I like things plain. I'm not expecting anyone on the pavement to have strong opinions about a plain gray umbrella, either. The button works well for opening and folding the canopy; compressing the stem afterwards is a separate job, but straightforward. I remember wondering whether the handle would be too small. It is quite compact, and my hands are big, but I've had no real difficulty getting a grip on it. Not quite the extra coverage I'd hoped for, otherwise very happy.

Courtney Terrell

I'd happily recommend it for the money.

Rainy days are a bit more enjoyable with this! People have commented on it and I like carrying it. I wouldn't count on comfortably sharing it with someone else, though it seems a normal size for one. Over the years I've used plenty of umbrellas, including some expensive ones, but this is the first I picked out for myself and I prefer it.The construction seems solid without making it a chore to carry. The push button is easy to operate, and there's no fiddling with a catch near my fingers. If I were being picky, the black underside is rather plain, but that's my artistic streak looking for something more interesting rather than any practical complaint.I'd happily recommend it for the money.

Automatic opening is particularly handy by the car.

We needed a replacement after leaving our old compact umbrella somewhere. This one is manageable in length when folded, although the bundle is a little thicker than ones we've had before. The flexible ribs give the canopy a reassuring feel without making it awkward to hold. Automatic opening is particularly handy by the car. I can have the driver's door open and get the umbrella up while I'm still sitting inside. Coming back, a press brings the canopy together quickly, then I shorten the shaft manually. It makes getting into the car during heavy rain much less of a juggling exercise.

Jeff Green

The umbrella seems well put together.

It arrived quickly and was packed nicely and everything looked in perfect condition and the size was just right. The umbrella seems well put together. Very nice. I'd suggest it for anyone wanting an umbrella for their child. Note: getting it into the sleeve could be a little easier.

Sheena Camacho

Fitted in my medium purse, which was handy.

I carried it every day for seven weeks in Thailand, for shade mostly but it saw wind & rain too. Fitted in my medium purse, which was handy. Standing underneath felt cooler and the handle was comfortable to hold. Not something I'd call a fashion statement, just useful. My hair was much happier without a hat. NO FLATTENED HAIR

Nicole Keith

Folded size is handy for a bag.

Pros:1. Folded size is handy for a bag.2. Enough coverage for me, or my wife holding the baby, but not all three of us comfortably.3. Has kept the rain outside during our rainy season, which is what I needed.4. Button opening and canopy closing help a lot at car doors and building entrances. The shaft still needs pushing down by hand.5. The sleeve makes it easier to put away.6. Have used it for six months and the mechanism is still working nicely.Cons;1. The loop handle is smaller than I would choose. I have to pay attention to where my thumb sits so I don't press the button unintentionally. Overall a useful umbrella for everyday rain, just don't expect the coverage of a golf umbrella.

Love that journey in winter, hate it in spring & summer.

I'm in Phoenix & we're already over 110, so being very fair skinned isn't much fun. I work Downtown & use the light rail. Love that journey in winter, hate it in spring & summer. Even with that short distance to the station I'm drenched by the time I arrive (not exaggerating!). Almost $30 felt like a lot to spend on an umbrella, but I'm really pleased I went ahead. Walking beneath it feels noticeably cooler, it's such a relief to have shade overhead. The whole thing feels strong & well put together, and I expect to get plenty of use from it. It's only been about two weeks & already I wouldn't want to be without it.

we live in san diego so rain isn't an everyday thing.

the questions here sound like they're about a toy, which isn't really what i'd call an umbrella. i bought it for my 7 year old son, he thinks having his own umbrella is fun... we live in san diego so rain isn't an everyday thing. when we do get some he can hold this himself and it's a good size for him. not lots of use to judge from yet, but it seems put together nicely.

Zachary Osborn

This folding umbrella suits me very well.

This folding umbrella suits me very well. A press gets it open quickly & another shuts the canopy; you then compress the telescoping pole yourself to put it away. That's the usual arrangement and works well here. It has a pleasingly simple look ... just something nice to have along when the day is grey and you're heading out in the rain.

Bobby Bridges

Saw this recommended on the news and decided it was worth a try.

Saw this recommended on the news and decided it was worth a try. After using it for a year or two....I CAN SEE WHY people rate it. No problems with mine WHATSOEVER. It has handled the wind without folding over and is still the one I reach for. Haven't needed to replace it, which says plenty to me. Now I'm thinking a couple of spares would be a very good idea! :-)

Spencer Newton

Now it's the one I reach for whenever it rains.

Didn't expect to end up using my halloween umbrella so much, but here we are. It started out as part of a jellyfish costume and did the job really well. Now it's the one I reach for whenever it rains. The green looks lovely and I get quite a few compliments-it's just a nice shape and there's a lot more room underneath than you'd think from seeing it folded. It's not just a costume prop, it covers me perfectly well.

Elizabeth Logan

The cream white looks lovely.

For my daughter at university in Northern California, I wanted an umbrella that would feel cheerful on those grey, wet days. The cream white looks lovely. She's told me, "It's so simple to use, & people keep saying how nice it is!" I'm happy with the price as well; it feels like a very nice buy for her.

Mia Benjamin

) is to picture the coverage before buying.

Good looking umbrella with a nice feel--solid without being too much to hold! My ONE caution (was I being optimistic???) is to picture the coverage before buying. About 105cm open is a comfortable personal umbrella, NOT a huge canopy for spreading out under. I had imagined something roomier until I actually stood underneath it.That said, it covers me well and I'm not taking over the whole pavement when people pass. For everyday use the size makes much more sense than something enormous. If you're expecting loads of space for two people, think carefully about that width rather than just assuming every umbrella opens to the same size.

Roy Harper

One of those small things worth remembering!

Added this umbrella to my carry-on because there was room for it in the case. Turned out to be a very good decision! A downpour caught me in the Dordogne in southern France and I stayed dry. It even got passed around to fellow travellers who hadn't packed one. Having it along made things much more comfortable. One of those small things worth remembering!

Adam Mullen

It is a really good everyday size, and I am pleased with it.

I hadn't imagined I could find this much to say about an umbrella. Normally I only notice one when I need it, so it was quite a surprise to find myself appreciating the details here. After using this one, I can understand why it is worth looking beyond whether an umbrella opens. It is a really good everyday size, and I am pleased with it. First, folded down it is about 40cm long. That is compact enough to carry without having a long umbrella sticking out beside you, although I wouldn't describe it as tiny. The cover slips off easily and is useful for keeping everything together. A press of the button gets it open, without having to work a runner up towards the canopy. Once spread out, the amount of coverage is better than I expected from the folded size. It is roughly 105cm across, with enough room for me underneath. At around 390g it is noticeable in the hand, but not tiring to carry. The many flexible ribs give the canopy a nicely supported feel, rather than that thin, flimsy feeling some umbrellas have. I also like the green; it is a pleasant change without being too showy. I haven't taken it into anything approaching a storm, and don't intend to make claims about that. In ordinary rain the canopy has kept me dry, and the overall construction seems reassuring. Putting it away is straightforward too. Another press collapses the canopy, then you push the telescoping section down yourself. Once rolled together it goes into its sleeve without a struggle. Someone wanting the smallest possible umbrella might find this larger than they need. For me, the balance between folded size and useful cover is excellent. Update: I have now used it on a windy, rainy day. It stayed manageable, the canopy held its shape and it continued keeping the rain off. Still deserves all five stars!

Needed a replacement for my son's old umbrella.

Needed a replacement for my son's old umbrella. The finish looks decent, it's easy enough to carry and the loop gives him a good grip. He's in fourth grade and can operate it, though compressing the pole after closing takes some effort. A younger child might need an adult's help with that part. For the money I'm very satisfied.

Rita Lloyd

Would def suggest it if you want a decent everyday umbrella!

Recently picked up the gray version and feel I've had my money's worth already. It gives more coverage than I expected from something that folds away this neatly. Has handled windy days well so far, too. After leaving it open to dry it was ready to put away fairly quickly. Would def suggest it if you want a decent everyday umbrella!

Clinton Booker

That would be a nice improvement, somebody work on that.

I keep a smaller umbrella too, but this one has been useful for the walk from the parking lot to work. In Hawaii it can be sunny and then raining before you've gone very far. It covers me and my work bag well, even when the shower gets heavier. Two people can squeeze under it if they stay close, though I mostly use it alone. Being able to collapse the canopy with a press is handy for narrow gaps and getting through a doorway, then I push the pole down myself. Shake the water off before going inside if you can. Now somebody needs to figure out how to stop the last few drops following you indoors. That would be a nice improvement, somebody work on that.

Michaela Petersen

A popular choice all round, and we thought they were good value.

These were prizes at our garden club's spring tea hat contest. We carried them open in a little parade for everyone to see. The winners were delighted and a few other members wanted to know where we'd found them. A popular choice all round, and we thought they were good value.

Madison Farmer

I never used to care much what happened to my umbrellas.

I never used to care much what happened to my umbrellas. Most felt so flimsy that losing one didn't seem like a big deal. With this one I actually remember where I've left it and make sure it comes home with me. The green is just right and it feels like something worth looking after. An umbrella wouldn't normally be my idea of a good gift, but this makes sense.

Rickey Howard

There is more weight than I expected from a folding umbrella.

There is more weight than I expected from a folding umbrella. On my scale it is around 390g, so not the very lightest option to carry. The button position took a little getting used to, but I can operate it comfortably now. Generally the solid feel makes that bit of extra weight worthwhile for me.

Drew Grant

There's SO much rain where we live.

There's SO much rain where we live. Wanted something my son could handle on the long walk to school. He loves the green umbrella and doesn't complain about rainy mornings now. He gets lots of nice comments on it too. He finds the button easy to use and can carry it comfortably on our walks, so I'm really pleased with how that's worked out.

Warren Hendrix

Small enough to take along.

Small enough to take along. Solid little brella too. We live in Oregon and rain is pretty normal here. My wife carries it around university with her and keeps saying how much she likes it. It doesn't have that flimsy feeling some folding ones do. Her hand sits nicely round the handle and it has kept her dry walking between classes, even with a bit of wind about. A good little "rain companion"

Meghan Oconnell

The green is a lovely change and people have said how nice it looks.

Rain and breezes are pretty normal where I live, so an umbrella gets used. The green is a lovely change and people have said how nice it looks. More importantly, it has coped well with everyday use so far. I'm hoping it'll be one I can keep using for a long time.

Ian Cardenas

Absolutely delighted with this umbrella!!!

Absolutely delighted with this umbrella!!! I've ordered a few different ones and it is lovely finding something that looks this good! The beige is beautiful, and I like the black underneath as well. Everything feels nicely made and the open canopy is much roomier than I imagined!!! This one has especially impressed me. My one small wish would be a slightly shorter handle, only so it would look a bit neater folded up. Nothing that takes away from how pleased I am with it. Hoping to get plenty of use from it. I'd happily recommend giving it a try!!!
