Now I've had some use out of this I actually prefer it a little.

I had an umbrella with automatic opening and closing that I really liked but managed to lose it while we were away on a family vacation. I ordered this beige one to replace it and at first I wasn't sure about the different handle. It felt unfamiliar and I kept comparing it with the old one (probably because I'd used that one for so long). Now I've had some use out of this I actually prefer it a little. The button opens it and draws the canopy shut, and I shorten the pole myself. Mostly it does the same job but the oval grip feels secure in my hand, which I appreciate when there is a bit of wind.

Sturdy, easy to carry, and the opening button is a good touch.

My previous compact umbrella went missing, which is why I needed this one. Sturdy, easy to carry, and the opening button is a good touch. All the talk about how difficult it is to reset the pole seems overdone to me - the canopy closes on the button and shortening it by hand just needs a firm push. Hardly a gym session!

A useful one for the backpack or car.

A useful one for the backpack or car. Not the smallest folded umbrella, but still practical to carry and it opens wide enough to keep one person dry. I wouldn't treat it as storm equipment, that's not why I bought it. For carrying everyday and having an umbrella in reserve, it does the job.

(Seems a more solid build as well)

My previous sun unbrella was'nt much help, always felt like I was still out in the sunshine. This one gives proper shade and I noticed it straight away. A much nicer feeling underneath, like being under a leafy tree. Glad I spent the money on it! (Seems a more solid build as well)

This time I ordered two, having already had one and liked how solid it felt without being awkward to carry.. there is enough room for me and my backpack, but sharing with another adult is a squeeze. Being able to pop it open at the button is handy when one hand is busy, and the canopy folds down with another press. Black is my choice, it looks simple and goes with whatever I'm carrying.

Slips into the tote I use every day with my e-reader and still leaves space for my other things! Handy having something that folds away but gives decent cover when open. Most of the rain shakes off easily, and once it's dry I pop it in its sleeve rather than carrying it loose or finding a plastic bag.

I'm not fretting about my umbrella every time the wind picks up now.

I'm not fretting about my umbrella every time the wind picks up now. This one has dealt with rain and blustery weather well so far, and the sleeve is useful for putting it away. Heavier than the folding umbrellas I'm used to, though. Not especially cheap either, but worth paying for! It's my third one, as I like having a spare. The others stay at home and in the car.

My two year old is thrilled with this umbrella.

My two year old is thrilled with this umbrella. She wants it beside her indoors and insists it comes out to the car with us. It has stayed in good shape so far. I was a little concerned about little fingers before getting it, so I do the opening and closing rather than leaving that to her. The button makes that easy for me, and she is perfectly happy just to stand underneath. It's a proper sized umbrella rather than a tiny toy, which is useful when we're together. A very nice buy.

Rose Montgomery

It's useful for a bit of shade on sunny days too.

I've been taking this out on rainy days and it has dealt with the breezy weather really well. I use it quite often and it feels steady when I'm holding it. It's useful for a bit of shade on sunny days too. The size suits me very well, and being able to open it with a single button press makes it easy.

This umbrella has been a good choice.

Boston seems to get wind whenever it gets rain, so I wanted something that didn't feel like a battle to carry. This umbrella has been a good choice. It feels sturdy on the breezy days I've used it and gives me enough cover to keep my head and shoulders dry. Holding it a little above my head lets me see where I'm walking without getting my hair soaked. The folded size is much easier to live with too. My hair still gets blown around underneath when it's windy, which is annoying, but I'll take messy and dry over messy and soaked!

So far it has been just what I hoped for.

So far it has been just what I hoped for. Opens wider than I was expecting from a folding umbrella, though it doesn't look absurdly big. My husband uses it going to work when it's wet and says it gives him comfortable cover. We haven't had the sort of really nasty rain and wind that would tell us much about its limits, but for the weather so far it has felt very solid.

As far as shade goes, that's what makes it worth carrying for me.

I've seen comments calling flexible frames flimsy, and I think those are two different things. There is some give in the ribs on mine. That doesn't mean it feels ready to fall apart, just that it isn't completely rigid (if that's the right word for it). Mine has been used for years, so I can only speak for the one I have, but it's been a good umbrella. As far as shade goes, that's what makes it worth carrying for me. I get overheated easily and being out of the direct sun is much more comfortable. It's made plenty of hot outings more pleasant, not just rainy ones. I like having it along on a trail or when we're taking a break with the kayak, b/c I can take off my hat and let some air get to my head while still having shade. It folds up reasonably neatly afterwards too. Most of the time I leave it in the car so I don't have to think about whether I've brought it.

Jenny Oconnor

Mine arrived promptly.

Mine arrived promptly. Very attractive. The quick opening is handy when I'm already carrying things. My skin is very fair, so I wanted shade without staying inside and missing outdoor activities. This should let me join in with everyone and still have some shade when I need it.

Amy Salinas

Coverage is right for me.

I use this when taking my baby out for our daily stroll. There's a little more weight than my old umbrella, but being able to pop it open with a button makes that worthwhile. Coverage is right for me. The button draws the canopy shut, then I shorten the shaft by hand; once I understood that, putting it away was easy.

Carl Hampton

The folding shape makes this a practical umbrella for the children…

The folding shape makes this a practical umbrella for the children to carry rather than one of those long ones I end up holding. Open, it gives decent coverage, and two little ones can squeeze underneath when the smaller sibling decides to share. I had been concerned by comments about compact umbrellas being too small, but that hasn't been a problem for us. To me the point is having something manageable enough that a child will actually bring it along. It is not a miniature toy umbrella, so the youngest still gets a hand with putting it away. Once it is folded, though, it can go with their things instead of leaving me with an armful of long umbrellas when we arrive! Ours has worn well and proved useful, and I would be comfortable recommending it.

Wanda Rowland

The construction looks really good.

I received this for my birthday after moving to the North West coast, so it was a very useful present. There is a good amount of shelter for a folding umbrella. My girl and I can walk close together under it without having to take a huge one along. The oval loop handle was one of the things I liked when I hinted about it, and it is comfortable to hold too. The construction looks really good. All those ribs give the canopy a substantial feel, but it isn't tiring to carry on our December walks. Water beads up on the fabric and a shake gets most of it off before I leave it to dry. I like being able to pack it away instead of finding somewhere for a long umbrella when we get indoors. I'd recommend this for taking along on walks, either on your own or sharing when you need to. If I ever need another umbrella I know where I'll look first!!! A present I'm genuinely glad somebody listened about!

The cream white is lovely as well.

This arrived today and my two year old spotted it straight away. He was so excited to have an umbrella to carry and kept wanting to open it. The button makes that part simple, although I help him with it and do the final push down of the shaft myself once the canopy is shut. It feels quite solid, not rattly or like something that will fall apart in your hands. It is a proper umbrella rather than a tiny toddler one, but he still loves feeling grown up holding it with me. The cream white is lovely as well. I would happily choose it again, especially for how straightforward it is to use. He wants to do everything himself at this age, so being included in using it has made him very pleased.

Cassandra Carson

I am pleased it is useful as well as attractive.

My Grand-Daughter has made this umbrella part of her rainy day things, not just something pretty to look at. The beige goes with a lot of her outfits, which matters to her more than I would have thought. I am pleased it is useful as well as attractive. It has done quite well on our blustery days. A Wonderful little purchase, and thank you for something she actually wants to carry.

James Ortiz

Umbrellas cost enough that I'd rather buy one I'm pleased with.

Okay, saving a few dollars on an umbrella isn't much of a saving if you don't like using it.This one feels like money spent properly. The oval loop handle is something I appreciate after the awkward grip on my cheaper one last year. It feels secure in my hand and the whole umbrella seems well made.Umbrellas cost enough that I'd rather buy one I'm pleased with. I'm thinking of getting another to keep at the office for surprise rain.

Phyllis Donovan

Much nicer in person than I expected.

Much nicer in person than I expected. The blue is lovely and the plain canopy suits me better than anything fussy. Sun hats leave my head feeling hot, so I like taking this for a stroll instead. It shades my face, neck and shoulders without something sitting on my head. You do need a free hand, obviously, but folded down it is easy enough to bring along. The button opening is handy when setting off. Shade AND an umbrella for ordinary rain, so I don't have to worry about getting it wet!

Norman Cain

Can't get enough of this umbrella!!

Can't get enough of this umbrella!! The green is so cheerful, and it seems to make people smile when I come round the corner. So many umbrellas look gloomy to me; I want something a bit more fun on a wet day :)The button is the other big attraction. Opens it straight out and folds the canopy away when I'm getting into the car, then I just push the pole down. After using that, wrestling a whole wet umbrella shut by hand feels like far too much effort. I'm thoroughly sold on it.

Jorge Obrien

Sturdy umbrella, flexible ribs and easy enough to carry.

Sturdy umbrella, flexible ribs and easy enough to carry. Works well. The frame feels solid and there's decent room underneath.I'm in Augusta, Georgia, where we get so much rain it feels like a tropical forrest sometimes, but this has been keeping me dry without any fuss.

Dillon Jackson

I've had mine for twelve years and it is still doing its job.

I've had mine for twelve years and it is still doing its job. It's stayed straight and usable through plenty of rainy, windy days in different parts of the country. I don't expect any umbrella to enjoy every gust, but this one has coped well. After all that use it looks a little worn now, which is hardly a complaint. I'm more impressed that the opening mechanism is still working as it should.

Tiffany Rose

This is an umbrella I would [happily recommend] to [others].

The [Open/Close] function and the [button operation] have both been [excellent] for [opening] and for [closing the canopy]. The [speed] and [force] of the [movement] are [impressive], it really does [open] almost [immediately] when pressing the button. The [frame] contains [30 flexible ribs], and looking at how it is made, it seems [sturdy] even for [windy days]. The outside is [blue] with a [black underside], a combination that looks [stylish]. 【Suitable for】men too. My one hesitation is that the fabric looks a little like vinyl, rather than the more woven-looking material on my other umbrellas. It gives the impression that it might tear a bit easily. The [folded length] was listed as [about 40cm], but seeing the actual umbrella, I thought it was [surprisingly compact] and [a good size to carry]. I was [quite amazed] to get [automatic canopy opening and closing], a [substantial frame], and [smart colouring] for [such a reasonable price]. This is an umbrella I would [happily recommend] to [others].

)

Overall it feels well put together, the fabric just looks a little cheaper than I expected. I've seen people get quite worked up about unusual looking umbrellas but I haven't had that reaction. I'm in NY and took this to college in the rain, and even the person at the security desk said it looked cool. Depends who is looking at it I suppose ( maybe a loop handle seems strange when you're not used to one but I just need an umbrella for wet days..)

Angel Moyer

Most of its use is walking my dogs.

I bought this to replace an umbrella I had lost and it has been a very good replacement. Most of its use is walking my dogs. There is enough cover for me and one dog when he stays close, which is what I needed. It has felt steady on the windy walks I've done and the frame seems well put together. The button is particularly useful when I already have a lead in one hand. One press opens it and another folds the canopy down. You do need to push the telescoping part back together afterwards, so packing it away isn't entirely a one handed job. That hasn't been a problem for me. For the amount of cover it gives, I don't find it tiring to carry, and the handle is comfortable to hold on a longer walk. It stores neatly once folded rather than leaving me with a long umbrella to find somewhere for. Overall I am very satisfied with it for walking the dogs and I would recommend it.

Walter Hogan

The blue looks nice, and I've used it for shade as well as rain.

Lighter than my previous umbrella, with a grip I find much easier to hold. No annoying little squeaks from the ribs when I use it, either. The blue looks nice, and I've used it for shade as well as rain. I'm not sure how much sun protection a person can judge just by looking at a dark lining, but for the price I'm very satisfied.

We are in Washington and rain is part of most days here.

We picked up two of these at a reduced price, although I nearly passed them over after reading some of the reviews. We are in Washington and rain is part of most days here. Umbrellas never seem to last very long in our house, so I wanted to see how these would get on before saying much. They have already had rain and some wind to deal with and have done well. The black looks nicer in person then it did in the picture. I would not say these are miles ahead of every ordinary umbrella we have owned, but they are certainly as good and possibly a bit better made. Having paid more for umbrellas which did not last, I find it hard to judge the quality just by what something costs. These will be used nearly every day, one by each child, and if they give up I will come back and say how long we got out of them. At this point they have been out about ten times. They still look good and the opening and closing works just as it did when we first got them. With a three year old and a four year old using them that is already a good start for us. Update after two years. Both black umbrellas are still here and the girls still choose them. Living in Seattle means they have hardly been sitting unused, and people have said how nice they look. My children are not particularly careful with their belongings, which makes the unhappy reviews quite surprising to me. I can only go by the two we have, and I am very happy with how they have lasted. The girls are five and six now and each takes hers along to school, even on mornings when the weather looks alright. The older one is into her second year of taking the same umbrella. They have turned out to be a much better purchase than I was expecting.

For the lighter rain on my walk to and from the office, this has been just right. I still keep a bigger umbrella for days when its absolutely pouring in Louisville, but this is the one I reach for most often. It goes inside my messenger bag, so on a dry walk home I don't have to carry an umbrella in my hand the whole way. That's really the attraction for me, something useful that I can put away when I don't need it.Also has a nicer look than the usual plain emergency umbrella, which doesn't hurt :)

I seem to replace umbrellas far too often.

I seem to replace umbrellas far too often. A windy corner downtown or the walk near the river is usually where the last one gives up, leaving me trying to hold a useless canopy over my head in the rain. Spending more feels wasteful if it is only going to end up being thrown away, but the really flimsy ones hardly seem worth carrying. Much better luck with this one! The Haven feels sturdy, and the flexible ribs give it a reassuring structure without making it awkward to hold. At roughly 105cm across when open, it keeps me covered without being a nuisance to everyone passing on the sidewalk. There is room to walk comfortably underneath it, rather than hunching my shoulders to stay dry. Folded, it is about 40cm long, which makes carrying it between showers quite manageable. The closed oval loop handle is comfortable to hold, and a press of the button gets the umbrella open promptly. It comes with a sleeve too, useful for keeping it together when I put it away rather than having loose folds catching on things. It has now accompanied me on those same exposed walks and kept the rain off very well. I find it comfortable to hang onto when a breeze picks up, too. For something that folds down to a sensible carrying size, it feels substantial in use. Definitely an improvement on my usual umbrellas.

very good for the money.

A lovely umbrella to have along while strolling through the French Quarter in summer heat, or just about any day...Nicely finished, really beautiful. Thinking I might get another in Gray....very good for the money. Mine arrived quickly and dealing with the seller was pleasant. VERY pleased indeed, would happily recommend both the umbrella and the seller.

I've always preferred umbrellas that give decent coverage rather than the really tiny folding ones. It was nice to find something that opens out generously but can still be put away. I've not been able to use it in rain yet, though it seems quite substantial. The beige colour (which I wanted) looks very nice without being too showy.

Rain isn't spoiling the baseball now!!!

Rain isn't spoiling the baseball now!!! Great umbrella - good cover for me without carrying something enormous! Green looks lovely in the stands... I'm claiming this one!BTW - hubby and I support opposite teams so agreeing on anything at a game is a miracle. LOL - an umbrella each means we can sit side-by-side and stay dry, even if we're cheering for different sides!

I bought this umbrella with a trip to Europe in mind.

I bought this umbrella with a trip to Europe in mind. It seems well made and I like using it, but it was heavier in my bag than I wanted for carrying all day. In the end I left it at home and packed a much smaller umbrella instead. That suited my purse better when I only wanted something there in case of rain.I still expect to use this one plenty at home, where I am not thinking about every extra bit of weight. It's a good umbrella, just not quite the light little travel option I had been looking for on that particular trip.

Money well spent!

My walk from the bus to the office in Seattle is only four blocks, but in sideways rain it feels a lot longer. I used this umbrella on that walk and arrived dry, rather than fighting with it the whole way. A couple of people nearby were struggling with umbrellas that had turned over. Mine felt steady, and I liked not having to stop and straighten it. That's the difference I was hoping for when I bought it. I'd rather pay for something that feels properly made than keep buying flimsy replacements. Money well spent!

The cover is generous for me, and a grandchild can tuck in close.

The cover is generous for me, and a grandchild can tuck in close. I still wouldn't recommend barging along a crowded pavement with it open. Umbrellas always seem to find each other in a crowd. Away from that little dance, it is a very nice umbrella to have with us.

Shawna Palmer

ive had my eye on these for quite a while.

ive had my eye on these for quite a while. my GF and I ended up with a cheap umbrella at an outdoor event and that was enough to make me finally order. went for two and they're a whole lot more solid than what we were using before. glad I stopped putting it off!

Theresa Ray

For normal rain it's been good.

Handy little umbrella, and the button handles both opening and collapsing the canopy. You still push the shaft down afterwards. I've had covers that were such a struggle I simply stopped using them, but this sleeve slips back on without a battle, so I actually use it. What more do I need? Some reassurance in rough weather would be nice, although I'm not volunteering to stand outside when the wind gets really fierce. For normal rain it's been good. Hopefully that helps anyone wondering about the cover or how it closes, since those were the things I wanted to know before buying

Isaac Strickland

also handy for a sunny summer walk, makes a nice bit of shade.

Love having this umbrella and it's been in regular use since I bought it. I wasn't sure about windy days (just hoped it would be alright) but it's handled the ones I've used it in. it costs a bit, though I think it's money well spent. my backpack and whatever else I'm carrying get decent cover along with me. also handy for a sunny summer walk, makes a nice bit of shade. very good purchase!

When we actually need it for rain there's good cover for him.

My son asked for an umbrella for Christmas, which made a change from the usual list. I'd be kidding myself if I said he only gets it out when it rains. Depending on the day it becomes a little roof or something to hide behind, so it gets plenty of attention. It's March now and it has come through a warm, wet winter still looking good. I help with the button and putting it away, since this isn't a little toy umbrella. It is a plain umbrella rather than a character one, but apparently that doesn't make it any less interesting to a six year old. When we actually need it for rain there's good cover for him. It has managed to be both a useful present and something he enjoys, which is about what I hoped for.

Hayley Cook

I would definitely recommend it!

We added this umbrella to my daughter's wedding and it was such a good decision! The day had a vintage feel and the simple gray looked lovely with that. The photographer found some really nice ways to use it in the pictures, and those photos are among my favorites now! I was pleased with the quality too, it looked smart rather than like something we'd only use for a photograph. The whole idea came to us rather late in the planning, so having it ready before the wedding was a relief. For what I paid I am delighted with how it looked and how useful it was for the pictures. A lovely addition without being fussy!!! I would definitely recommend it!

Catherine Hardy

People have even complimented how smart the umbrella looks.

I can head out in rain and a breeze without my hair, shoulders and bag getting soaked. People have even complimented how smart the umbrella looks. Two went missing from my office, so I'm now on number three. (I don't work in that office now...)The button opening is a relief compared with the old manual catches that used to hurt my thumbs. I'm still getting accustomed to using it, mainly because I keep reaching for a catch that isn't there. That's habit rather than a problem with the umbrella. A few more outings and it'll feel completely normal. For now I'm dry, it looks good, and my thumbs aren't aching after putting it up, which is a definite bonus.

Ivan Mooney

The oval handle gives it a bit of character.

Bought for someone who loves black, and she was delighted with it. The oval handle gives it a bit of character. The canopy shelters you nicely when the rain blows about.I'd suggest it for anyone who wants both style & something useful rather than just decoration.

Connor Wilkinson

Worth taking a chance on!

Worth taking a chance on! After comparing quite a few umbrellas that cost more, I settled on this one. Mostly I hold it over me during my kid's baseball games, since I'm fair skinned and sitting in the sun gets uncomfortable. My husband tried holding it briefly and noticed the shade felt cooler too. It's a pretty little umbrella as well as useful. Definitely glad I bought it!

Stuart Kaiser

Very solid for something that folds up, money well spent.

Needed an umbrella that could share my backpack with notebooks and all the other stuff in there. The old one didn't survive everything shifting around on top of it. We don't get much fierce wind here, so mostly I wanted something that could take being carried about.Been in the bag for over a month now and still looks and works like new. Very solid for something that folds up, money well spent.

Alexandria Rollins

A lovely bumbershoot.

A lovely bumbershoot. I've had mine for years and it still looks very respectable, despite me not being especially careful with my things. PLENTY of cover for my (not exactly tiny) self and the purse alongside me, without a giant thing to carry when folded. Looks lovely either way. People have complimented it, and friends have joked about borrowing it permanently! I'd recommend it without hesitation.

Betty Zimmerman

Happy to have found one that suits me.

I started with one. A few months on I bought two more as gifts. They feel well made and mine has coped nicely with the breezes we get here. We don't exactly live somewhere calm, so a solid feeling umbrella was what I wanted. Happy to have found one that suits me.

Jesse Horn

Works nicely and i like the design.

Works nicely and i like the design. Just a bit smaller than i wanted for myself, so my daughter has it now and she's delighted. I would consider another for carrying around, but for my own use i'd prefer more coverage. That is really the only reason i haven't given it the full five stars.

Jeffery Joseph

My daughter likes things that look a little dressy.

My daughter likes things that look a little dressy. This cream white umbrella is very sweet, I have to admit. A touch bigger folded than I expected for her, but she manages it fine. The simple look isn't too grown up or too childish (happy with it for school and for going to church)
