This has been excellent in rain and the usual breezes.

After a few umbrellas that looked smarter than they worked, I wanted something practical. This has been excellent in rain and the usual breezes. Opened up, it gives me proper coverage rather than feeling like a little roof just for my head.I like the oval handle for keeping a secure grip, and folding it away is much less of a nuisance than carrying a long umbrella around. It isn't the tiniest thing in my bag, but I would rather have something substantial that keeps me DRY. The general appearance is perfectly respectable for everyday use. My one quibble is that the sleeve looks rather utilitarian. It reminds me that this is useful equipment rather than a dressy accessory. For what I need, that's a very easy compromise to make.

Coverage has been adequate in normal rain.

Several aspects of this umbrella seem well thought out. The ribs are the first thing I noticed: there are 30, and they have some give rather than seeming brittle. They look substantial, although appearance is not proof of long-term durability. Having had umbrella supports leave rusty marks on the covering before, I would want more use before drawing conclusions about how these age. Opening is quick, with a definite snap when the button is pressed. The closed oval loop makes an unusual handle, but is comfortable enough for me. Pressing the button again collapses the canopy; finishing the job means pushing the telescoping shaft in manually. It is a convenient arrangement, provided you don't expect the entire umbrella to retract itself. The open canopy is roughly 105cm across, which is a fairly ordinary size for a folding umbrella. Coverage has been adequate in normal rain. The flexible ribs are reassuring, but I would not read that as a promise that it can deal with any weather. The drawback, for me, is how long it remains when folded. At around 40cm, it isn't something I can casually slip into a small handbag, although a tote is fine. The weight is less of an issue than the length. It therefore sits somewhere between the very small umbrellas and a full-length one, and whether that compromise is useful will depend on what you normally carry.

Nice umbrella, the black looks as it did in the photos.

Nice umbrella, the black looks as it did in the photos. The wrapping was another matter, torn when it arrived and not a good impression. Fortunately the umbrella itself was fine. My five stars are for what's inside, because the packaging really didn't deserve the same mark. Happy with the actual product.

Carrying it in one hand is easy enough.

I kept coming back to this umbrella for months before actually ordering. I wanted something for following my daughter's golf tournaments, but wasn't sure a compact one would be enough. My bigger umbrella was fine once it was raining, it was carrying it around when it wasn't that got old. You still want shade and you don't want to get caught without anything. I'd noticed a few coaches with smaller umbrellas and thought that might suit me better. After reading more I decided some of the reservations were from people wanting a different sort of umbrella than I needed. Once summer came I finally went ahead, and I'm glad I did!!It's black outside and underneath. Just having shade overhead while you're waiting on the next shot is a welcome thing. It opens with the button so I'm not fiddling with it while everyone moves on. I use it for those stretches of standing around, not expecting it to cover a whole group and their things. Carrying it in one hand is easy enough. If I had to find a drawback it would be the coverage compared with a full size golf umbrella. That's the trade off for having something smaller to bring along, and for what I paid I'm happy with that. I wouldn't want a huge umbrella every time just for the occasional bit of rain or sun. For parents who spend a lot of time walking round junior tournaments, this has been a good choice. One thing another parent brought up was packing for tournaments away from home. Folded up in its sleeve this is much less awkward than my long umbrella. I would still check before taking any umbrella on a plane, but the smaller packed size is useful to me.

This umbrella has been a very good choice.

Since moving to the Northeast I've been doing a lot more walking to work in proper work clothes, so keeping reasonably dry matters. This umbrella has been a very good choice. There's enough cover that I don't arrive with my shoulders and jacket soaked, and the frame feels reassuring rather than flimsy when I'm walking. The loop handle is comfortable to keep hold of too. One thing I hadn't really thought about was drying it afterwards. A shake gets much of the water off and I leave it open to finish drying when I get indoors. The black looks sensible with work clothes, which suits me fine. I work in the medical field and tend to want something practical rather than flashy, though a few people have still remarked that it looks nice. Overall I'm glad I bought it.

Love this thing.

Love this thing. If somebody gives me a look for carrying an umbrella around Chicago, fine, they can enjoy the rain in their face while I stay dry. Bonus: it folds up so I'm not carrying a big stick indoors. It's handled the wind I've had so far without turning itself inside out.

When I came back my boyfriend had an umbrella for me.

That rainy visit to the art gallery started with both of us in such a miserable mood. It was windy, my little old umbrella wasn't much use, and I went into the ladies room just to warm my hands under the dryer. When I came back my boyfriend had an umbrella for me. Not what I expected at all! The green looked so lovely, and I was so touched that he'd thought of it while I was off trying to thaw out. I gave him a kiss right there. It became my favourite thing to take out in wet weather. People would comment on it and I found myself almost wanting rain so I could carry it again. We could share if we stood close, which made it even nicer. Then he managed to lose it, and we looked everywhere with no luck. I thought we'd have to return to the gallery to find the same one, so finding it here was a very happy surprise. Another one is on the way and I'm ridiculously excited for an umbrella!

A little more effort than I expected.

Wanted another umbrella after losing my old one, and something a bit different. This gray is nice, not too dressy well sorta, but fine for everyday, only just opened it up today with rain due tomorrow. The material seems substantial and the oval handle is comfortable, not the usual curved sort. Opens fast which is handy getting out of the car, no standing there fiddling with it. It also has the button to bring the canopy down. One VERY small thing is you then have to push the shaft back yourself, it doesn't shorten on its own, but that's just how it works. A little more effort than I expected. Still like the colour and how neatly it folds, and it's a change from my old one.

Destiny Irwin

This one feels reassuringly steady.

After getting fed up with folding umbrellas that flap around instead of keeping me dry, I wanted something firmer. This one feels reassuringly steady. The quick button opening is particularly useful when stepping out of the car, no standing there fumbling in the rain. The beige fabric and oval loop handle give it a smart, straightforward look as well.

Tamara Obrien

It feels carefully made, and people have remarked on how nice it is.

Replacing an umbrella I'd kept for more than twenty years was a surprisingly big decision. I don't usually go for anything too plain, but the cream white has such a lovely look that it won me over. It feels carefully made, and people have remarked on how nice it is. The button that gathers the canopy is new to me--what a useful little luxury! Hoping this one will be my companion for just as long!

Bethany Hill

A good choice for their walks.

Picked this for my Grandson to share with his mum on rainy days. He's only a year and a half so she does the holding, but there's room to tuck him in beside her. It seems well made and opens without a fuss. The gray looks just like the picture. Easy for my daughter to carry along in her backpack. A good choice for their walks.

Bottom line: a sensible design, and one I'm happy to have paid for.

We've tried enough umbrellas to know that spending more isn't always the answer. What interests me about this one is the way the canopy is supported. There are 30 flexible ribs, rather than the sparse framework you see on some folding umbrellas. They have some give, and the whole canopy feels evenly held instead of flimsy. It is still a handheld folding umbrella, not something I'd deliberately lean on or abuse. The construction just feels more considered. Time will tell about longevity, but the first impression is very good. Bottom line: a sensible design, and one I'm happy to have paid for.

Feels solid and has already coped nicely with a couple of wet, blustery days. Plenty of cover and folds up neatly, although it isn't something I'd tuck into my small work bag. For me it's better kept on the back seat or by the coats, ready when needed, rather than treated as a tiny travel umbrella.

Tim Weaver

He thinks having his own umbrella is wonderful.

It would be a stretch to pretend my son only uses this when rain is falling. To him an umbrella is also a roof, a shield, and generally something very interesting to carry around. He asked for one at Christmas, so this was his Christmas gift. It's March now and, with the oddly warm and wet winter we've had in Texas, it has certainly been taken out enough. It still opens properly and the frame is holding up nicely, which I'm pleased about considering the enthusiasm of a six-year-old. I do help him fold it away rather than leave that part to him. He thinks having his own umbrella is wonderful. For actual rain it covers him well, and for all the pretend uses, well, he seems to have those sorted too.

They love listening to the rain on the top.

I bought two in beige for my boys, who are 7 and 5, and both of them wanted to try theirs straight away. "We match!" They like having umbrellas of their own for the walk to school and I like that these fold down instead of being another long thing to carry. One of our old umbrellas went missing, so I was hoping these would be ones we'd want to keep track of. The fabric feels good and the canopy gives them plenty of room underneath. The button is easy for them to press, although I do the final push to shorten the shaft when we pack them away. That seems much easier than expecting them to manage every bit themselves. They love listening to the rain on the top. They aren't tiny when folded, but they're easy enough for me to carry when the rain stops. :) Update after five months: Still being used regularly for school walks and both are looking good. UPDATE two years later: Both umbrellas still open and fold as they should, with no tears in the fabric. They have been a great buy!

An excellent backup to have in my bag.

An excellent backup to have in my bag. I mainly keep it there for unexpected showers (where I live, unexpected showers happen rather often). It folds away neatly, so I don't have to decide whether it's worth carrying every time I go out. There are compromises, of course, as with any portable umbrella. The coverage is enough for me, but not a lot to spare, and I haven't tested it in really rough weather. I would still take a bigger umbrella if I knew I was going to be outside in rain for ages. For those occasions when you weren't expecting rain and just need to get home without a soaking, though, this is a very good thing to have.

Enough wet soccer and baseball practices finally convinced me to ask for a decent umbrella for my birthday. (Clearly I've reached the age where that counts as an exciting present!) It feels sturdy and looks nice enough that my 14 year old has already had her eye on it. The button makes opening and dropping the canopy easy, and there's enough space to keep this mum covered in her folding chair.

Trevor Wade

For the price this thing feels like a bargain.

For the price this thing feels like a bargain. The sleeve is handy and the oval handle makes it easy to grab, a bit like carrying some spy gadget. Opens up into a proper useful umbrella, not something flimsy. It has coped nicely with the wind I've met so far. Almost feel I underpaid :)

Jacqueline Richards

The automatic opening is handy too.

I'd been wanting a neat umbrella like this for ages, and this one has turned out better than I thought it would. The cream white looks beautiful. It feels well made and sturdy enough for what I need. The automatic opening is handy too. Only little thing is that packing the folds neatly takes some patience, but overall I'm delighted with it.

Marvin Rios

The compact size suits me better than a long umbrella.

The compact size suits me better than a long umbrella. Pressing the button as I step out of the car is handy, and there's less to wrestle through the doorway. I've caught a bigger umbrella in a door before, which was my own doing. This one is easier, though not the tiniest folded. Works well for me. Hope that's useful.

Allison Beltran

The rain runs off well too.

Never thought a button on an umbrella would make me this cheerful. Opening it is quick and easy, especially when I've got groceries and keys to deal with. Another press folds the canopy shut; you still compress the shaft yourself to pack it away. That's straightforward enough. The rain runs off well too. I usually give an umbrella a few shakes before going inside, and this one sheds most of the drops nicely. It still needs drying afterwards, but I'm not wrestling with a soaking wet lump at the car door. Such a small convenience, yet I've enjoyed using it far more than expected.

Mary Flores

Wind catching the canopy was always what worried me most.

After trying three umbrellas in the past year I wanted one that felt solid rather than flimsy. Wind catching the canopy was always what worried me most. This one has kept its shape well during use and feels properly put together! Very pleased to have found it and would definitely suggest it to anyone shopping for an umbrella!

Allen Russo

handy for everyday rain, just not for every sort of weather.

handy for everyday rain, just not for every sort of weather. it fits in my class bag and comes along to work without being another thing I have to carry separately. I don't enjoy holding it when the wind really picks up, so I'd still want something bigger for rough days. Opened up there's room for me, but not really anyone else. Pros:neat folded size, quick button opening Cons:one person cover, a bit pricey I went with four stars because keeping it tucked in my bag is the whole reason I wanted it

) For the umbrella itself, I am very pleased.

The delivery tracking confused me (it showed delivered but I had nothing, then two days later the parcel arrived. I had already been trying to find where it was, but all sorted in the end.) For the umbrella itself, I am very pleased. I live on east coast and wet days can be windy here. My previous umbrella was a pain in that weather. This one is a good size and feels much more sturdy to hold. And not ugly either, it looks quite smart. I love using it!

Joe Donaldson

I'm happy with it overall.

The construction feels firm, it travels easily in my bag, and it has kept the rain off me. I'm happy with it overall.I do think the spread is good for a compact, but after looking at the listed size I pictured a little more coverage. Opened up, it's really a normal compact size-- fine for one person, not for squeezing two people underneath while waiting at the bus stop. For sharing like that, I think I need a regular full sized umbrella rather than a folding one.

Lawrence White

Pleased with the umbrellas and how they were packed.

Ordered eight as high school graduation presents. They feel well made and are a useful size for students heading across campus in the rain. With so many graduation open houses to attend, I appreciated finding a practical gift that wasn't too expensive. Pleased with the umbrellas and how they were packed.

It has more weight to it than my other folding umbrellas.

A year of carrying this around the city has convinced me. Winter, spring, those stretches near the river where the wind comes between the buildings... it has done its job. I even find myself holding it a little more visibly at crossings so drivers might notice that somebody is actually walking there. It has more weight to it than my other folding umbrellas. Not a featherweight, but there's a reassuring solid feel, especially around the handle. The oval loop gives me something definite to hang on to. And it still goes into my bag, which is the whole point of buying a compact one. I've had enough umbrellas surrender on particular corners that I used to start folding them before I even got there. With this one I haven't had to be quite so nervous. A gust will move it and you can feel the frame give a little, rather than that awful sudden flip. I'm not claiming it ignores the weather. Just that for my everyday walks it has been a much better companion than the ones I kept replacing. Money well spent, absolutely.

Every bit as attractive in person.

Every bit as attractive in person. The cream white has a soft, even look, and the whole thing has a very pleasing appearance. This was a present for a friend, so I wanted something I could feel good about giving. I'd had this sort of umbrella in mind for a while and was pleased to find one that looked right when I needed the gift. Seeing it unwrapped confirmed that I'd made a good choice. Thank you for an attractive, useful umbrella.

Tina Pitts

Would happily recommend it.

Looks lovely, and the beige is very much what the photo showed. I've been using it regularly for a few months and it still works as nicely as at the start. The folded size is especially handy for my purse on days when the weather looks doubtful. Would happily recommend it.

Tara Maynard

People have said how nice it looks as well.

My daughter thinks this umbrella is lovely and actually wants a rainy day now so she can take it out. People have said how nice it looks as well. We've been using it for about two months in the wet part of Washington, so it hasn't just sat looking pretty in a cupboard.Seems to be lasting well so far. I thought the price was reasonable for something that's a bit nicer looking than the usual umbrella. It also made a good birthday present for a friend, and hers gets plenty of use too. Cute and practical is a good combination.

Lance Rivers

Only drawback is the length when folded.

Here in Chicago I've gone through ten or more umbrellas in the past year, so I'm encouraged by this one. It has coped with the windy days I've tried it in. Only drawback is the length when folded. It's still compact, just not as easy to carry around as a tiny umbrella when the rain has stopped.

Candice Jones

Nothing complicated once you've done it.

Useful shade for exposed trails, city pavements or a day at a theme park. Light enough that I don't mind holding it for a while. The stem telescopes down -- the button opens the umbrella and closes the canopy, while shortening the stem is done manually. Nothing complicated once you've done it. It fits into my backpack folded, with a little bit above the top. I don't know any figures for sun protection, but the shade under the pink canopy feels comfortable.

Makayla Anthony

I love this thing, honestly.

I love this thing, honestly. I am still careful where the edges are, because I always worry about catching somebody's eye with an umbrella. The size feels manageable without being mean on coverage. Not having to fiddle under the canopy to get it open is a big plus, particularly with gloves on. I'd rather keep them on than choose between cold hands and getting wet. The cover is just right for me alone and the whole thing packs away easily afterwards. I haven't had rough wind yet, so I can't say how it would behave in that. The ribs feel springy rather than brittle. It costs more than I'd usually spend, which is my only hesitation. Still, for something I use regularly, the ease of handling makes it worth it. Friends who've seen it have wanted one too.

Rain all the time.

My husband and I have been in England nearly 3 years now. In the first 2 we got through...probably 5 umbrellas. Rain all the time. Then wind on top of it where we live, so anything flimsy doesn't last long. I finally spent a little extra on this one and I'm glad I did! feels solid, plenty of cover and smart looking too. For the weather we get, paying more has been worth it. I'd recommend it.

Stuart Foster

My son is fascinated by that oval handle.

Picked up another umbrella as a spare in case we misplace one, and what a good choice! My son is fascinated by that oval handle. He wants to carry it around indoors even when it isn't raining. Funny how umbrella's can be so exciting to kids! I'd happily choose one as a present too!

Jermaine Glover

Very glad I had this along.

I live in Seattle and have just walked the four blocks from the bus stop to work in rain and gusty weather. Not a long trip, but long enough to get soaked with the wrong umbrella. A couple of people nearby were trying to turn theirs back the right way, while mine stayed open and kept me dry. I could feel it moving in my hand, but it never felt as though I was fighting it. Very glad I had this along. I would rather pay for something that handles my walk than keep replacing flimsy ones. This has certainly earned its place in my bag!

Tanya Norton

ARRIVED PROMPTLY TOO, NO COMPLAINTS.

RIGHT BALANCE FOR ME--SIMPLE WITHOUT LOOKING CHEAP. BLACK GOES WITH EVERYTHING AND IT LOOKS FINE HANGING BY THE COATS. I HAD EXPECTED A HOOK AT THE END, BUT ITS A CLOSED OVAL LOOP INSTEAD. TOOK A MOMENT TO GET USED TO THAT--NOW I JUST HANG IT BY THE LOOP AND ITS FINE! ARRIVED PROMPTLY TOO, NO COMPLAINTS.

Darrell Hebert

Had both of these gray umbrellas for a few days now and they are…

Had both of these gray umbrellas for a few days now and they are what I hoped for. The finish looks good, the price suited me, and the oval loop handle feels solid. Pressing the button opens it and another press brings the canopy in, then you push the pole down yourself. Will have to see how it lasts as it is still early but no complaints yet. The open size is right for one person and covers me well, not something I'd choose for sharing. I think having two is worthwhile, one ready to use and one as a backup. The plain gray looks tidy enough for a wedding or other outdoor event too. For what I paid I would be happy to give one as a useful present :).

Sandy Dodson

The shape is a bit rounder than I expected from the photos.

... our eight year old soccer player is delighted with it, though it's mostly us holding it beside the pitch. I wondered whether beige would be much use for shade, but sitting underneath it has been perfectly comfortable. The shape is a bit rounder than I expected from the photos. There is room for me and a child tucked close, not a whole group, which is fine for how we use it. A couple of parents asked my wife where she found it, so she was quite pleased with her choice. My one reservation is putting it away while juggling the other stuff from a game. Pressing the button folds the canopy, but the stem takes a separate push to shorten it. That last bit needs more pressure than I expected and I wouldn't call it effortless. Nothing has gone wrong with it, I just wish packing it down was quite as easy as getting it open.

Kerry Blankenship

It also needs a while to dry completely.

The canopy gives me sufficient cover and the frame has a reassuringly solid feel. The oval loop handle (not a hook) is comfortable to carry it by when closed. The sleeve is useful (though really just a cover) for putting it away. It does feel a little heavy and bulky for a compact, but I accept that for the construction. It also needs a while to dry completely. After a year of use, I still consider it a well made umbrella that deals effectively with rain and breezes.

Phyllis Owen

Worth the money!

I ordered two of the cream white umbrellas for an outdoor wedding in the park. They looked so pretty, and there was quite a scramble over who got to hold one! It felt steady enough in a light breeze, but the best part was having some shade on such a bright, warm day. Whoever had one was reluctant to hand it over!Worth the money!

Mindy Woodard

The umbrella feels solid in my hand and still folds up compactly.

The umbrella feels solid in my hand and still folds up compactly. And the button operation makes it really handy. And I would much rather keep one useful thing for a long time than keep replacing it. Something practical that I actually want to hang onto! What's not to like?

Connor Hopkins

Didn't think I'd bother leaving a review...

Didn't think I'd bother leaving a review...but this thing deserves one. Folded up it's about forearm length. Then you press the button and there's a proper sized umbrella, not some tiny cover over your head! It looks the way it did in the pictures too, which is always nice. Small enough to put away, big enough to be useful. Love it!

Pamela Chapman

I'd seen comments about flimsiness but it seems solid to me.

I chose this for my five year old daughter and she is delighted with having her own umbrella. The gray is a nice simple colour that would suit either a boy or girl. I'd seen comments about flimsiness but it seems solid to me. She's been trying the button round the house for days, with help resetting the shaft, and it works fine.

Donna Palmer

I'd recommend it if you want shade and rain cover in the same thing.

A friend has been admiring mine so I plan to give her one for her birthday. I have a skin condition and like being able to take some shade along rather than always looking for somewhere to stand. This covers my head and shoulders well, and has also been useful in the rain. The frame seems strong without being rigid; a bit of give in the ribs is reassuring on breezy days. Much easier to carry folded than a long umbrella too. I'd recommend it if you want shade and rain cover in the same thing.Gray compact automatic umbrella

Performance is good.

Performance is good. Open size about 105 cm, folded 40 cm, weight about 390 grams. Press handle button, the pole extends and umbrella opens.once more, Pressing it folds the canopy but the pole does not shorten by itself. The pole must be pushed down manually to reset it. This is normal for the mechanism, yes? I keep my finger away from the button while carrying it open. Overall very convenient and gives good cover. For daily use, what more is needed?

Christina Aguilar

More umbrella happiness than I can explain!!

I never thought an umbrella could make me this ridiculously happy, but here we are! One press and it opens like it's pleased to see me, ready for the rain while I stand there grinning. Closing it feels almost rude and yes I have opened it indoors, bad luck can mind its own business. Who needs company when my umbrella is around, I would even take it to the cinema for the rainy scenes. Absolutely delighted!!! More umbrella happiness than I can explain!!

Brenda Prince

cream white looks lovely, not much trouble to carry.

my other half is always losing things, sunglasses and umbrellas especially, the fiddly opening never helps. this one pops open and folds the canopy with a button, then you push the shaft in. cream white looks lovely, not much trouble to carry. just need a way to stop it getting left behind now.

Krystal Franklin

A nicely made umbrella and I'd happily recommend it!

I wanted something to use with my 2 year old daughter when we take her brother to school in the rain.I picked up umbrellas for the boys around the same time, so I could compare them at home. This one feels more substantial than the small character ones, especially around the frame. The button is convenient for me to use, and I hold it while she walks beside me.The canopy is plain, but it gives useful cover rather than just looking cute. We have only used it on one ten minute walk so far, and she was dry when we got there. It wasn't awkward for me to carry either. I can't judge how it will last from that, obviously, but the first outing was encouraging.I am keeping it on a high shelf between rainy walks. It isn't going into the toy pile, which should help! It folds away neatly and I hope we'll have it for a good while. A nicely made umbrella and I'd happily recommend it!
