An easy recommendation.

My job is in a shipyard, so umbrellas get a fair amount of wind there. Most of the ones I've used haven't lasted very long. About two years with this one now and I'm still delighted!! It has coped well with the windy conditions around the yard. I keep telling people at work how good it's been. An easy recommendation.

seems solid overall and i'd be happy to buy another.

pretty close to what I expected. the cream white looks a little different from the photo, but that's a small thing. i've used it for shade and for showers and it does both jobs well. can't say much about strong wind, we don't get that here. seems solid overall and i'd be happy to buy another.

People keep remarking on how nice this umbrella looks - simple beige, but it gets noticed! No problems here - umbrella kept in my work bag and opens out to a surprisingly useful size. I'm pleased I paid a little more for something that feels substantial and makes heading out on a grey rainy day a bit nicer!

Mislaid my last one somewhere.

Mislaid my last one somewhere. Might have gone from the bed of my pickup while we were at a motel, I honestly don't know. No hard feelings if somebody found themselves a decent umbrella. People used to remark on it, so I wanted another. Happy with the replacement and it comes along to the golf course when rain looks likely.

The oval handle feels secure to hold.

I kept putting off ordering this, even though it stayed on my wish list for months. I wanted something to take round my daughter's golf tournaments but some of the comments made me wonder if a compact umbrella would be enough. My old one was a long umbrella and carrying that along all day, even when it wasn't needed, got tiresome. A few of the college coaches had smaller ones and that was what got me looking in the first place. Eventually I thought about what I needed it for instead of everybody else's reasons for buying. I ordered the pink for the summer and am very happy with it!! The colour is nice in person, with a black underside. Having some shade while standing watching makes those sunny stretches much more pleasant, and it has kept me dry when the rain comes along too. I am mostly walking between places and then standing for a while, so something I can put away between uses suits me better than carrying a long umbrella everywhere. It opens with the button, which is handy when you already have something in your other hand. The oval handle feels secure to hold. My only real reservation is that you need to remember this is a compact umbrella, not one of the enormous golf ones. There is enough coverage for me, but I wouldn't expect it to shelter several people. For the price and the amount I have to carry it, that is a fair trade. For parents who spend a lot of time following junior golf I think it is worth considering. One final thing if you plan to take it away to tournaments; check the folded length against your bag. Smaller than my old one doesn't mean pocket sized, and I would rather know that before packing.

He wanted more cover than his little old umbrella gave him.

A christmas present for my father, who's retired and out golfing three days a week. He wanted more cover than his little old umbrella gave him. This one has gone down very well. It springs open easily and isn't a chore to carry. He says two can squeeze under it heading back to the clubhouse. Proudly shows it to everyone.

That was a good start as far as I was concerned.

I bought this while I was out shopping and the rain started, having managed to leave home without an umbrella. I'd spent a couple of months looking at compact ones and reading people's comments, so I wasn't choosing completely at random. Haven was already on my list of ones to look into. First thing I noticed in use was how securely I could hold the loop handle. It gives my hand something substantial to hold onto when the wind picks up. There were several gusts on that first outing and the umbrella kept its shape, no turning inside out. That was a good start as far as I was concerned. The automatic action is handy, both to put it up and to gather the canopy back in. There is still a separate step to putting it away though. After using the button to collapse the canopy you have to push the shaft down yourself until it catches. That part needs a fairly firm push, which was the only thing I found slightly awkward. It isn't meant to retract the whole shaft with the button. Once I understood that I could do it without much fuss, although there is definitely some resistance there. It isn't the lightest umbrella I've carried, particularly around the handle end. To me that seems consistent with how substantial the frame feels, so I don't really mind the extra weight. I would rather have that than something that feels too slight in my hand. All in all I'm glad I picked it up, beyond just being glad not to get soaked on the way home. (No connection with the company here, I was only shopping and needed an umbrella)

The only caution I'd add is wind.

Shade was the whole reason I wanted an umbrella, living in the southwest. On that score this has been well worth taking along. I used it at the theme parks where you're forever standing in a queue with the summer sun beating down on you. It's surprising how much nicer that wait is when you aren't right in the glare. Opening it is straightforward, and once the canopy is shut I push the shaft down and put it away without much fuss. The only caution I'd add is wind. In gusty spots it's more awkward to hold and needs some attention to the angle. I'd recommend it for the shade, just wouldn't treat it as something for rough weather.

Candice Ho

Nice coverage for rainy days too.

This umbrella turned out to be just the house warming present I was after for my neighbors. Looks so much nicer in person, and it feels like a proper, well made umbrella, not just something cute. Nice coverage for rainy days too. They're gonna be so happy when they see it. Really excited.....

The sleeve is handy for packing it away.

I've had one of these for about two years and it has gone on several flights with me. The sleeve is handy for packing it away. On the plane I can tuck it under the seat, or beside me when I've got the window seat. I took it to Hawaii and used it for shade by the ocean. My wife thought I looked a bit silly carrying an umbrella in sunshine and wouldn't walk beside me, until she got hot enough to come share the shade. I've even held it while sitting under a pool umbrella where the sun was sneaking in at the side. It has felt sturdy and coped fine with a moderate breeze. Sadly I left mine in an airport gift shop on our last trip. I liked it enough that I'm getting the same again.

Gray Folding Umbrella

Gray Folding Umbrella Normally I stick with familiar umbrellas, but the plain gray finish of this one caught my eye. I gave it a go and it has turned into my favourite. The mechanism is smooth (the button opens it AND folds the canopy down), and the whole thing feels better put together than the umbrellas I've used before. For me it has certainly been worth the money.

Virginia Poole

The finish on this is excellent.

The finish on this is excellent. The fabric looks neatly put together, and it folds down nicely considering how much coverage you get when it's up. The handle is a plain closed loop, without any toy bits dangling off it. I prefer that for my eight year old. It seems like a proper umbrella rather than a novelty.

Living in southern Arizona, I mostly want shade from an umbrella.

Living in southern Arizona, I mostly want shade from an umbrella. sunscreen gets sticky and ends up smeared on my phone, and hats leave my hands and arms exposed. Already have sun damage there.I've gone through cheaper umbrellas in the windy spring weather, so I'm pleased this one has handled the windy days we've had lately. Being under it really does make the heat a bit easier to bear.Another plus is the green canopy when crossing roads. People turning seem to look straight past pedestrians sometimes, and I feel a bit more noticeable carrying this. Still have to watch them of course. It's easy enough to carry along that I actually use it rather than leave it at home. Only thing I'd still want to know is more about sun protection; I'm using it for the shade, not treating it as a replacement for sunscreen.

Michele Fitzpatrick

Sturdy as well as pretty.

SO pretty in pink. My mother received it from me for Christmas and absolutely loves it. Now I keep thinking about getting myself one, despite already having a perfectly usable umbrella. The color looks even nicer in real life than on the screen. I wasn't sure about spending that much without seeing it first, but it was money well spent. Sturdy as well as pretty. I'd happily recommend it.

Mark Stein

My daughter has been so happy with hers.

My daughter has been so happy with hers. Had a look at it myself this weekend and it really is nicely put together. She finds the button handy, one press to open and another to fold the canopy. Not bulky when packed away but covers her well in the rain. Would happily buy another.

Alison Booker

It's been handy on walks with the kids too.

Bought mine last year and it has proved such a worthwhile purchase. Feels strong and keeps me well covered when the rain gets heavy. It's been handy on walks with the kids too. People have commented on how nice it looks. I'm planning to get one for my mum as well.

Joy Russo

These umbrella are great.

I'm in Los Angeles and very sensitive to sunlight. Too long outside leaves me faint, freckled, sunburned and with skin tags...even after reapplying sunscreen! These umbrella are great. They actually help and hold up. Buying number three since airport security took my second on my return from the Dominican Republic, calling the metal parts a "weapon"! Next time it won't go in my carry-on.It does the job in rain too.

Margaret Johnston

A sturdy umbrella is worth having.

A sturdy umbrella is worth having. The last one lasted me four years before I replaced it (it still worked--the material was just getting so thin I could almost see holes coming). This one has been with me for over a year now and is still doing exactly what I need. Very pleased with how it's holding up.

Donna Gibbs

Who knew an umbrella could look this chic?

Who knew an umbrella could look this chic? The shape is lovely and that oval handle gives it a bit of personality! I'm especially happy with the canopy closing at a button press, because the sliding metal bits on older umbrellas always seemed to catch my fingers. You still push the pole down afterwards, but that's straightforward. 5/5 from me for something practical that doesn't feel dull. If you enjoy a little style with your rainy days, I'd recommend it. LOVE!

Clinton Whitney

I'd recommend giving it a try!

There's plenty of space over my shoulders without me having to squeeze in under it. It feels sturdy on breezy rainy days and has kept me nicely dry. It's BIG once opened, yet folds down neatly, so I think it's well worth the money. I'd recommend giving it a try!

Kristin Petersen

My main reservation is the handle.

For me, at 5'7" and usually in heels, this is a useful size without being an enormous umbrella. I can keep myself and the bag on my shoulder covered in normal rain, though I wouldn't count on it for two people. It has felt steady on breezy walks so far and folds down small enough to carry around. I still shut it before going through a doorway rather than trying to squeeze through with it open.My main reservation is the handle. The closed oval is an interesting idea, but it doesn't sit in my hand quite as naturally as I'd hoped. If my hands are wet I have to pay more attention to my grip. The weight isn't excessive, just feels a little concentrated above my hand, so my wrist notices it after a while. Overall the cover is good, and the handle is something I can live with.

Kara Todd

So glad I ordered it!

I was after a nicely made umbrella with a little colour, and this beige one is just right. The shade looked a bit different on my screen, but I much prefer it in person. It's attractive without being too much, opens smoothly, and is a really useful size once up. So glad I ordered it!

I chose this as a birthday present for my sister, thinking the simple design would suit her. She loved the look, and it's small enough folded to go in her larger purse rather than needing to be carried separately. Opened up it gives more cover than you'd think from seeing it put away. She's used it in the rain and says it kept both her and her purse dry. Altogether a lovely present, with a finish that feels worth more than I paid.

Jaclyn Schwartz

My list for an umbrella was 1/ a button to open it

My list for an umbrella was 1/ a button to open it; 2/ enough cover to be useful; 3/ something that would go in my everyday purses; and 4/ a colour other than black for a change. This one ticks those boxes pretty well. The blue makes a nice change and the push button is so handy when a shower starts. It fits most of my bags, although you do notice the extra weight. Coverage is good for me (not like my enormous golf umbrella, obviously! Just saying, not a complaint.) I'm tempted to have another in a different colour so I don't keep moving this one between bags.

Carrie Bruce

=) What a nice surprise!!!!!!!!!

The blue was what caught my attention, but then I read a lot of unhappy umbrella reviews and started worrying about what would turn up. Unpacking this one was a relief...it is actually nicely put together! It certainly doesn't look cheap. Mine comes along quite often now, mostly for shade, and I am glad I didn't talk myself out of buying it. It seems sturdy, although I would still be sensible about strong gusts. Give it some space when you press the button, it opens quite quickly! I keep the sleeve handy for putting it away when I'm walking around. Something else to remember not to leave behind, though. (Easily done!) For anyone wondering about how much shade you get, I find it quite enough for myself with room around me. It is about 105cm across when open, if you want to get a tape measure out. Folded it is roughly 40cm long...which is...small enough to carry along, but not something that vanishes into a little pocket! The oval loop is comfortable to hold, too. This is a handheld umbrella, not a great big beach shade, and for that it is just what I wanted. I would happily pick this again! =) What a nice surprise!!!!!!!!!

Corey Dodson

I was wrong.

I went in expecting something a bit flimsy, more for the look of it than daily use.I was wrong. Opens with a reassuring feel and the button folds the canopy down neatly too. That oval handle is certainly different, but I'm happy carrying it as my regular umbrella. I've had a few curious looks taking it into the office. My co-workers probably wonder how someone can get this enthusiastic about an umbrella when the actual rain is still so miserable. :P

Steven Donovan

My go-to umbrella now.

My go-to umbrella now. A press of the button gets it open smoothly. It's behaved well on windy autumn walks too. Folded up it's fine in my backpack -- I wouldn't squeeze it into a little handbag. The real win is the coverage, keeping both me AND my bulky messenger bag out of the rain.Cons: Haven't found any.

Angie Barber

Handle slightly firm for me.

Pleasing to look at. The canopy closes with button. Pole squeezed together by hand. Handle slightly firm for me. Comes with its sleeve. First was only attracted by the picture, but I have no regret of purchase. From the choices this umbrella stayed with me. Maybe not the most comfortable of all, still it is love.

Dominique Erickson

Have had some nice comments when using it.

I was after something a little more feminine and this is a nice change. Enough cover without feeling huge once it's open. It is a little bulkier folded than I'd hoped, but over all it feels well made. Have had some nice comments when using it. The beige is a warm shade, closer to tan than a pale cream.

Lynn Sharp

Feels like a quality umbrella.

Pros: Good materials, well finished, sturdy frame and a useful size. Feels like a quality umbrella.Cons: A small personal quibble rather than a fault. The closed loop handle is different from what I'm used to gripping, so I notice it more in my hand. Doesn't change how pleased I am with the umbrella overall, just not my favourite handle shape.

So I started looking at umbrellas for shade instead.

The sun between the car and the gym or shops was getting on my nerves. I don't enjoy covering myself in lotion either, and a couple of sunblocks have upset my skin.So I started looking at umbrellas for shade instead. Felt a bit self conscious about it at first - would everyone think I was being precious just walking across a car park... I probably worried more than necessary. Picked this because it wasn't frilly and I could carry it without making a big production of it. It gives me a patch of shade when I want it, and goes away in my bag afterwards. No one has made a fuss or even asked what it's for, so that concern was all in my head.I'm glad I tried it and would suggest it to anyone who just wants less direct sun on those short walks

Allen Weiss

Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

Got this for my husband. I had pictured something a little shorter, easier to tuck into his briefcase. There's more weight to it than I anticipated too, though that may be down to the sturdy ribs and hopefully means they will last better. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

The button works smoothly and everything seems solid.

We had one of these from Christmas a while back, then I managed to leave it behind while shopping last month. I was ready to try something else, but my wife looked through the options and picked the same one again (no argument from me). The beige is understated and it is a useful size, enough coverage without being awkward to handle. The button works smoothly and everything seems solid. We've even had a few compliments on it. Hopefully this one will stay with us longer (provided I can keep track of it).

Scott Curry

It seems a really good umbrella.

There's more cover here than I expected from a folding umbrella. My husband has it for the walks across the college campus where he works, especially between buildings and his office. He needed a moment to work out the button the first time, then it was straightforward. It seems a really good umbrella. I suppose on a very long walk you might notice the weight, but it suits his daily use.

Rebecca Casey

It has been excellent.

My smaller umbrella never really left enough room when two of us needed it, which is why I went for this one.It has been excellent. Several summer downpours later, it still feels solid and does its job. Two people need to stay close, but it's much better than trying to huddle under the tiny one. By myself I get good cover over my shoulders without carrying something as long as a golf umbrella. The frame feels substantial, not like the cheap emergency umbrellas you grab when you get caught out. I'd happily recommend it for everyday rain, particularly if you want more room than a very small folding umbrella gives you.

Emily Robbins

After a few months of having this around, it's still working just as it should. The build looks solid and it slips into our backpack or a roomy handbag easily. Two of us can shelter under it if we stand close, although it's better for one. we'd want a few more proper rainy outings before buying another, but so far there's nothing to complain about.

Madeline Hall

My little boy loves using this umbrella.

My little boy loves using this umbrella. It has stood up to the usual treatment from a three year old so far! The blue is bright and it feels well put together. Having a button to open it makes things easier than fiddling with a catch on the shaft. He likes pressing it himself while I hold it, and I help him put it away afterwards.

Willie Harper

Everything I wanted in a folding umbrella, really.

Everything I wanted in a folding umbrella, really. Price seems reasonable.I haven't used it a great deal yet so I'm still getting familiar with the button, but it feels properly put together and gives me plenty of cover. The beige is a nice shade, and all those ribs make it feel quite substantial. Nothing to complain about so far, would happily recommend it. Even with a breeze there's a reassuring feel to it.Very happy with this one and would buy another without much thought. Excellent!!

Daisy Dyer

I am so happy I went ahead and purchased this umbrella.

I am so happy I went ahead and purchased this umbrella. I did have the wrong idea about the automatic part at first and thought the whole thing would shorten itself when I pressed the button. Once I understood that it draws the canopy closed and I push the shaft back in myself, there wasn't anything to be concerned about.(I had even wondered whether I'd chosen the wrong one, but no, I really like it! ) It feels strong without being a big long umbrella to lug about, which matters here in San Francisco when the weather changes while you're out. I've used it in rain with some wind and it has been very useful, and Lord knows we have enough damp days for that! In the end I'm glad I took a minute to understand it rather than give up on a perfectly handy umbrella. One very happy customer here :)

Gabriella Terrell

The gray is nice enough.

The umbrella feels sturdy, although it has more weight than I expected. I chose it for my mother but may end up keeping it myself because she prefers something lighter. The gray is nice enough. Pressing the button opens it and also folds the canopy, then I shorten the stem by hand. The loop makes it convenient to attach to a bag. Useful for properly wet days, but for a little drizzle I might not want the extra weight with me.

Living in WA means I have had plenty of chances to try this out.

Living in WA means I have had plenty of chances to try this out. It is a nice looking umbrella, and my eight year old keeps trying to claim it, so keeping it for myself isn't always easy. The frame feels reassuringly solid and it has coped well with the breezes I've met so far. Coverage is fine for me on my own, but I wouldn't buy it expecting much room for a second person. When rain comes at an angle my shoulders can still get a bit damp, and folding it beside me means watching where the water drips. I do like how quickly it opens, and a press of the button brings the canopy down without a struggle. Overall, useful and attractive, with the usual small umbrella limitations.

For me it's a small tradeoff for staying covered.

Walking through central Philadelphia on a wet day, you soon find out whether an umbrella is worth carrying. The gaps between the tall buildings seem to funnel every gust straight at you. I picked this one up without much thought and it's been a good surprise. Appearance first. The beige makes a welcome change from all the black canopies on the pavement, and looks nicer in person than I expected. The oval loop handle feels solid in my hand and gives it a neat finish. But that isn't really why I'm giving it five stars. What has impressed me is how well it has held its shape on those blustery walks. I've seen nearby umbrellas turn inside out while I've been able to keep walking under mine. Pretty impressive for something that folds down this small. One thing worth mentioning, though, and not something I'd take a star off for. Holding its shape doesn't mean you stop feeling the wind. A stronger gust still gives your arm a tug, so you need a proper grip rather than letting it hang loosely in your fingers. The loop helps me hold on securely and I haven't lost my hold on it. If gripping things is difficult for you, that pull is worth considering. For me it's a small tradeoff for staying covered.

I want actual dimensions when choosing an umbrella.

I want actual dimensions when choosing an umbrella. Pictures and peoples descriptions don't help me judge the cover.I brought this mainly because the price seemed reasonable. Opened up its around 105cm, and it looks fine to me, but I haven't use it in rain yet.

Seems solid enough to cope with our nearly four year old, who isn't exactly gentle with things. We handle the button and packing away, and it holds its shape nicely once opened. Early days yet, but I'm hoping it lasts because it's been a lovely umbrella so far.

Bryan Owens

The button works nicely indoors, at least.

I've had this umbrella for a few months now and it feels quite solid, more substantial than some I've owned before. I'm happy with it so far, in the way I was with my old umbrella before it was stolen. The problem with judging it properly is that we've had hardly any rain here, so I haven't really been able to try it out. The button works nicely indoors, at least. Four stars for the moment seems fair, and I'm hoping the first proper rainy day will justify another star.

The girls were happy with theirs too!

I bought three to use for the flower girls at my wedding and love them! The girls were happy with theirs too! Well made, and sturdy even with my little sisters being so hyper. Arrival took a bit over two weeks, which was a small hassle, but I wasn't in a rush. Love these!

I had a question about the umbrella after it arrived, so I sent a message to customer service. The reply came back within a few hours and was genuinely helpful, not just some answer that had nothing to do with what I asked.Once I started using it, I understood why people had been so positive about it. It opens quickly and has been fine in the windy rain I've had so far.I also appreciate how little space it needs when folded, it is so convenient to have along. There is something reassuring about buying a useful thing and getting a helpful reply as well. All in all I am delighted with the umbrella and the service, and would happily buy another when we need one!

This one is simple to operate and has a solid feel.

I wanted an umbrella that felt like a lasting purchase, not just the cheapest option. This one is simple to operate and has a solid feel. Paying a little extra seems sensible for the quality. Its neat, understated appearance would suit just about anyone, and I am glad to recommend it.

An immediate favourite with my daughter.

An immediate favourite with my daughter. I hold it above her when she's in the stroller and it gives her enough cover. Lost a star from me because it's a little bulky to manage along with the stroller. The actual canopy feels sturdy though, and we have been happy with it in the rain.

Connie Buck

Nicely made umbrella, feels solid.

Nicely made umbrella, feels solid. I looked over the ends and the stitching when I unpacked it and everything was tidy. Opens without a struggle and folds away neatly afterwards. I wanted something that felt properly put together rather than disposable. Very good quality all round.
