I would DEFINITELY be happy to buy it again.

I initially had a question about how the umbrella closed (I had taken automatic to mean that the whole thing would fold right down on its own), and wasn't sure I had understood the description correctly. After I asked about it, the explanation cleared things up. The button brings the canopy in, but the telescoping section still needs to be pushed down manually. I had considered returning it, which I decided against b/c there wasn't actually anything wrong with it. Additionally, once I understood the sequence, it was straightforward to use and didn't seem like a reason to send it back. As for the umbrella itself - my son has taken to it, and I think the blue looks good. He is seven and can manage the handle comfortably. He likes having something that doesn't look babyish, and the plain design should still appeal to him as he gets older. It folds down neatly for carrying, too. My first impression was not particularly positive, but getting a clear answer to my question and understanding how it worked made the difference. I would DEFINITELY be happy to buy it again. If you want a practical umbrella that a growing child won't immediately decide looks too young for them, I think this one is worth a look.

Opening it with one press is very convenient.

I paid a price I was happy with, and the size is useful for everyday rain. Opening it with one press is very convenient. For the money I would say it is a sensible choice. However, there was a mark on the handle that did not disappear completely when I wiped it. I also had to clean a little oily residue from the shaft. These are small details, but someone wanting everything spotless straight away might be less satisfied. They have not stopped me using it, and overall I consider it a worthwhile purchase.

Looks kinda smart too.

Keeping it at four stars for now, only because I've hardly had chance to use it. It's been out a couple of times and seems to cope well with the city wind. Looks kinda smart too. Good cover without feeling oversized, so I'd happily suggest it to someone after a handy umbrella.

To my mind, umbrellas fall into two fairly different categories.

To my mind, umbrellas fall into two fairly different categories. There's the cheap one you pick up because it's raining and you haven't got anything with you. Losing that one isn't much of a concern, since chances are you weren't expecting to have it very long anyway. Then there's the kind you buy with the intention of actually keeping it and using it for more than a handful of wet days. I'd worked my way through enough of the first kind to decide it was worth spending a little more. I wanted something better made, but it still had to go in my backpack rather than be another thing to carry separately. This one has worked out very well for that. Being able to shut the canopy by pressing the button is a particularly handy feature. After that, you push the shaft back down by hand, wrap the fabric up and put it away. Nothing complicated about it, and I appreciate not having to gather the open umbrella in manually. Having used quite a few umbrellas over the years, this feels like a definite step up. It's held up well with regular use, too. I still think an inexpensive spare has its place. There's one tucked in my car door for exactly that reason. But for the umbrella I plan to keep track of and reach for regularly, I'd rather have this. If you're reasonably good at remembering where you leave things, it's worth buying something nicer.

Finally an umbrella I can rely on!

Finally an umbrella I can rely on! Gusts have turned so many of my old ones inside out. This one has handled the rainy, blustery days I've used it on without trouble, and it doesn't stay wet for ages afterwards. I'm tempted to get another because everyone at home keeps reaching for mine. The loop handle is comfortable to hold when I'm carrying other things too. Slipping it into its sleeve afterwards makes it easy to take along again. A very good buy.

Not the nicest walk when it rains.

Has kept me dry on the walk to work and I've been meaning to say so for ages. Finally doing it now. I cross a huge parking lot and then the gap between buildings where the wind gets funnelled straight at you. Not the nicest walk when it rains. With this brelly I can just keep going, the canopy has stayed put and I'm not arriving soaked. Makes that wet trek a whole lot less miserable, I'm smiling for a change!

Absolutely LOVE this umbrella.

Absolutely LOVE this umbrella. I have to limit how much direct sunshine I get, so being able to bring my own shade along is a real help. And it is pretty enough that I enjoy carrying it, rather than feeling stuck with something purely practical. It feels sturdy and well made. Very happy to recommend it for anyone wanting some shelter from the sun.

Just what we needed.

Just what we needed. The blue looks nice and there's nothing complicated about using it. My seven year old daughter is delighted with it, mostly because she can get it open herself instead of waiting for me. We have several umbrellas and this is the one she reaches for now. She can collapse the canopy with the button too, then push the handle and shaft together. We've only had one rainy outing with it so far, so I can't say anything about years of use. We stood in a line for about half an hour and she stayed dry the whole time. For what we needed, I couldn't ask for more.

These have done a good job for our family.

These have done a good job for our family. We've had more than one and losing them has been more of a problem than wearing them out. Our son has always been interested in the pink one, and over his seven years it has had quite a lot of handling, not all of it gentle. It still opens and does what it should. Usually I end up disappointed with umbrellas sooner or later, so it's nice to have one that has actually lasted. A proper keeper!

The automatic opening on this umbrella has been great.

The automatic opening on this umbrella has been great. One press and it's ready, and so far the button has behaved every time I've used it. Here in Florida we've had rain after rain this season, so it hasn't just been sitting in a cupboard. I think the shape looks lovely in person, much like the picture. There hasn't been enough wind for me to say anything useful about really blustery conditions, although the frame seems substantial. What I particularly like is not having to huddle under the middle to stay dry. It covers me comfortably and the edges don't seem to funnel water onto my clothes. A lovely umbrella to use and one I'd certainly suggest to someone else!

Ryan Blackwell

The green is lovely, and the umbrella feels solid and nicely made.

The green is lovely, and the umbrella feels solid and nicely made. The little sleeve is useful for putting it away too. My only reason for four stars is that my daughter finds pushing the shaft back down a bit stiff. The button opens it and closes the canopy without trouble, but I usually help with that last push to reset it. Worth keeping in mind for a child. Apart from that we are very happy with it.

Got two for my granddaughters and they were so excited.

Got two for my granddaughters and they were so excited. They've been opening them up and trying them out again and again. Proper umbrellas, not playthings, and they feel well made. I did worry about fingers getting caught so we've been careful with the button, but no pinches so far. Nice enough for dressing up, though they're useful for actual showers as well.

Jerome Cowan

A few very wet days at school convinced me I needed a better umbrella.

A few very wet days at school convinced me I needed a better umbrella. I wanted something I could have ready when taking the children outside, rather than getting caught without one. Opened up, it seems to give useful cover, with room for a child to tuck in close, though it isn't a big group umbrella. The price made it reasonable to have one in the classroom, one at home and another in the car.The opening button is simple, and another press draws the canopy together before I compress the shaft by hand. It feels practical rather than fussy, which is what I need at work. Overall I'm pleased with how it looks and feels, and I'm looking forward to using it!

This pink umbrella is an exception!

Finding everyday things that are useful without being dull can be surprisingly difficult. Usually I wind up wishing I could redesign half of what's available. This pink umbrella is an exception! It has a bit of presence without any silly extras, and it deals with rain and gives shade just as I need. My friends keep admiring it, which is rather satisfying. I'm sensitive to sun, so it isn't only wet weather that brings it out. A practical object that I actually enjoy carrying instead of merely tolerating. Whoever thought this through has my thanks!

Marcus Villanueva

Feels better built than I was expecting.

Feels better built than I was expecting. All the folded fabric makes a fairly thick bundle so I wouldn't choose it for a tiny bag. The button makes opening and bringing in the canopy very convenient. You still push the stem in afterwards. Once it's up, there's more coverage than I'd guessed, which I really appreciate.

Janice Callahan

She really liked it and I was pleased with the quality.

I picked this as a gift for someone who's difficult to find something different for. I'd exhausted the usual little presents in the shops and an umbrella seemed a useful change. She really liked it and I was pleased with the quality. The sleeve is a nice touch too! I'm now thinking about getting another for myself.

Darius Yu

closed oval handle, firm button action

Nicely thought out; closed oval handle, firm button action; the storage sleeve is a useful extra! I am quite careful about how it gets used...with my kids, any umbrella can apparently become a sword. Keeping this one for wet weather rather than battles seems the best way to look after it!

Dennis Blackburn

Suddenly practical seemed like a very good idea.

After enough wet walks in New England, we had become fairly cynical about umbrellas. My husband received this one at Christmas and we laughed a little-a practical present, certainly not exciting! Then I borrowed it. Suddenly practical seemed like a very good idea. It opens promptly, gives proper cover and feels reassuringly solid in the hand. The oval handle is pleasant to hold, and the whole thing telescopes down to something I can tuck away rather than leaving a long wet stick propped in a corner. So guess what went on my own Christmas list? A plain black umbrella! No decorative masterpiece required, just something thoughtfully made that I actually enjoy using. It is the sort of everyday object you barely think about until you find a good one. A surprisingly satisfying present for anyone who appreciates things that work!

] I was impressed when I first took it out of the sleeve.

[Follow-up: Having used it more, I am still pleased with this umbrella. It has held its shape in breezy weather and has been quite dependable in the rain. The weight is noticeable when carrying it around, although I am more used to it now. A lighter version of the same thing would get five stars from me.] I was impressed when I first took it out of the sleeve. It felt substantial and carefully put together, rather than something that would need replacing after a few uses. On that first impression alone I would have rated it higher. Opening it and looking up inside, I noticed how closely spaced the ribs are. The canopy is supported nicely, and the whole thing feels reassuring to hold. There is a difference, though, between being compact enough to put away and being light enough to forget about. Even in its sleeve, this is not an umbrella I would leave in my bag without noticing it. The sleeve fits neatly once the fabric is folded down, so putting it away hasn't been a problem. For me the solid feel is worth the extra weight, and I haven't regretted keeping it. Someone looking chiefly for the lightest possible everyday umbrella might feel differently. That is my reason for four stars rather than five.

Selena Davenport

Feels well made and worth what I paid.

Several months on and it's still doing its job nicely. Feels well made and worth what I paid. The flexible ribs have coped with windy rain without it turning over. Would recommend it. One odd thing though, the box was enormous for a folding umbrella. Could have packed a whole pile in there, I don't know why they needed all that space...

Leroy Spence

A handy umbrella for my outdoor painting.

A handy umbrella for my outdoor painting. It gives me the shade I wanted, though attaching it to a chair or tripod is still something to work out. My husband says he'll have a think about that. The black underneath should avoid throwing a bright colour back onto my work (I hope.) Feels solid in use and seemed good value for what I paid.

Larry Price

Nothing too bright or fussy, she said.

One of my granddaughters wanted something for the wait at the bus stop that would also go in her book sack. Nothing too bright or fussy, she said. Her mom had looked around without finding what she wanted. I spotted this while looking for a few other things and let her have a look before choosing it. It fits in the bag she uses and gives her enough cover while she's waiting. Glad we found something that suits her.

Chris Reese

They look so pleased carrying them about.

I didn't expect all that much for the price, especially after looking at much dearer umbrellas for the children, but decided these were worth a try for my daughters' Easter baskets. They're five and seven and absolutely LOVE having their own umbrellas! They've already been through two downpours and have appeared at more indoor tea parties than I can keep track of. They look so pleased carrying them about. Both girls can use the opening button easily. It folds the canopy back in as well, although I help with the last push to shorten the stem, which is my one reservation. I'm sure there are fancier umbrellas out there, but for what I spent I'm happy with how these are put together. I'm glad I took the chance and would happily get another when my little boy is old enough to need one. Hopefully he'll be just as keen to carry his own! :)

Hello golfers,Just tried my new umbrella, Very nice quality.

Hello golfers,Just tried my new umbrella, Very nice quality.the oval handle feels good in my hand! Its not a giant golf umbrella but fits neatly down the side of my cart bag.I was glad of it this past weekend when rain came over during our round.kept me dry and didn't take up loads of space afterwards.:)Regards,The fellow in knickers.

Then there's carrying it when the rain stops.

I wanted something that looked a bit lighter on a gloomy day (why add to all the grey?), which is why I picked beige. I don't care for the really deep, rounded umbrellas, but I didn't want one of the tiny ones that barely covers your head either. Then there's carrying it when the rain stops. A big umbrella sounds fine until you're stuck holding it all afternoon. This gives me a normal shape and decent coverage, but it can still go away in my bag. A compromise that makes sense to me.

Kara Flynn

This one gives me that same solid impression.

I've always kept decent umbrellas for a long time, some for more than ten years, so construction matters to me. This one gives me that same solid impression. The frame doesn't feel flimsy and the button operation is straightforward. My wife is not gentle with cheaper umbrellas, which is why I picked this up for her. Obviously I can't speak for years of use yet, but from handling it I expect it to serve her well.

Allison Summers

This umbrella is a BLESSING.

This umbrella is a BLESSING. Here in Nevada the sunlight feels like an enormous stage lamp turned right onto your head (one of those really fierce ones)!! I put it up on my way from the apartment to the car, and out it comes again after parking. I need that shade. A bout of sunstroke in my teens left me terribly wary of the sun, and I also react to a lot of sunscreens. I already cover up whenever I go outside, but having shade over my head as well makes such a difference. It has become part of the routine rather than something I remember only when rain is coming. SO GLAD TO HAVE THIS FOR SUNNY DAYS.

Kristin Gill

An attractive umbrella & a good solid feel to it.

An attractive umbrella & a good solid feel to it. With the wind that often arrives with our Florida rain, I wanted something that didn't feel flimsy. It looks smart in person & I thought the price was reasonable for the quality. The frame looks well supported and the handle is comfortable to hold. It's been a pleasing purchase, thank you

Kendra Valencia

Really impressed!

Really impressed! It's handled the wet, blustery days in london much better than the flimsy umbrellas I used before. The canopy is broad enough that I stay properly covered, which is the main thing. Folded up it isn't one of those tiny pocket umbrellas; it takes up more room in my bag and you notice it there. But it also feels a lot more substantial, so for me that is a fair trade. I love using it. If I could change anything it would be the grip on the oval handle. My hand fits, just with less spare room than I'd ideally like, and i think a slightly longer grip would feel nicer. Someone with smaller hands might not notice at all. It's a tiny criticism really, because otherwise I'm delighted with how useful it's been.

Donna Abbott

They apparently dry faster than I do.

There seem to be different schools of thought about rain. Some people just pull their coat up and accept getting soaked. They apparently dry faster than I do. Others buy whichever little umbrella is nearest, then spend the walk home wrestling it back into shape. And then you see people from the Pacific Northwest, who look as though they actually planned for the weather. Proper coverage, no fuss, just getting on with their day. Watching that is what made me want a better umbrella instead of another emergency purchase. This one has been a good choice. It looks nice, but more importantly it covers me properly and hasn't given me trouble in ordinary gusts. Folding it down for my bag is straightforward, and I don't feel like I'll need to replace it halfway through winter. It's not enormous, but two of us can share if we stay close. Basically, rain happens, and I'd rather not spend the whole walk thinking about my umbrella.

Tracie Boyd

Seems like a good umbrella!

Not much rain around here this year, so it's still waiting for a proper outing. I wanted something to pack for vacations, where rain always seems to find me!!!!! Tried the button and it springs open nicely, plus the fabric feels pretty sturdy. Seems like a good umbrella!

Alison Lynch

Such a smart little umbrella.

Such a smart little umbrella. I keep wishing for a chance to take it out, then either we don't get any rain or I forget to bring it. The beige outside against the black underneath is a lovely combination, and I like having something so simple on an otherwise dreary day. It's a folding umbrella rather than something I'd choose for really rough weather, which is fine for the use I had in mind. For ordinary showers it seems perfectly adequate. Mostly I appreciate that a practical thing can look nice without being fussy. A pleasing bit of design at a price I didn't mind paying.

Joan Huffman

This feels sturdy and is a good size for him.

My five year old needed another umbrella after two years with his old one. He'd been pretty responsible with it, so we let him have a say in choosing again. He settled on the beige rather than any of the fancier designs we looked at. This feels sturdy and is a good size for him. He can operate the canopy button easily. Big enough to give decent cover without feeling enormous, and hopefully he'll get a few more years from it.He loves it.

Ana Phelps

Overall, the quality feels very good.

I've been impressed by how well put together this umbrella feels. It folds down to a sensible size for keeping in the car, which is where mine lives. There are several small details that make it pleasant to use rather than just something to put up with. A few observations: - The handle is a closed oval loop, with enough space to get a comfortable hold. It feels secure in my hand while carrying the open umbrella. - The button is easy to locate and saves having to push everything open manually. A quick press gets the canopy up with very little fuss. - Opening is smooth, and it feels settled once fully extended. The button also brings the canopy down; pushing the shaft back in by hand finishes the job. - The pink fabric has a black underside, and the many flexible ribs give the open canopy a nicely supported shape. The coverage is good without it feeling like an enormous umbrella to carry. - There is a sleeve for storage. Once the umbrella is dry, I slip it back in so it sits neatly among the other things in the car. Overall, the quality feels very good. It's an everyday item, but the thought that has gone into making it convenient is appreciated. A well deserved five stars.

Tony Nunez

I can't see myself replacing it for a good while.

After a couple of months of rain this has been a dependable umbrella, especially considering what I paid. I can't see myself replacing it for a good while. When that time comes I would happily choose the same one again. The blue is a nice cheerful shade too, a bit of brightness when everything outside seems determined to stay dull and wet.

Thomas Stanley

I'm a big guy (6' 3"), and there's enough cover here for me without carrying an enormous umbrella. Feels like it is built solid, the ribs have some give rather than seeming brittle. I've been using it for nearly 6 months now, including breezy days, and everything still works properly.

Alisha Lawson

Its a good umbrella, nicely made, i like the oval loop handle.

Its a good umbrella, nicely made, i like the oval loop handle. Thought it might be a little roomier for sharing though. Plenty of cover when I'm by myself, but my spouse and I have to stay close if we both use it. That's my only real reservation, otherwise I'm very happy with it.

Tasha Woodard

Solid quality.

Looks pleasant. Solid quality. Button operation. Handle pleasant in the hand. This is an umbrella also for the mood, not only for necessity. His first job is keeping the rain off, and it does that. Perhaps an ordinary umbrella can do the same practical work. But there is less feeling with those. I am happy to carry this in bad weather.

Andres Melendez

Arrived promptly as well!

Picked up a few of these for my bridesmaids and really hope they're as taken with them as I am! Practical AND pretty, which is what I wanted for wedding gifts. Haven't been out in any rain with one yet, but I tried opening one and it feels quite substantial for a little 'brelly. Nice to have something that will go in a bag for an unexpected shower.Arrived promptly as well!

Joanne Paul

Love the green, it looks so smart!

Love the green, it looks so smart! Also very nice to have some shade over My fair skin when I'm outside. I enjoy My mid day walks much more without the sun beating straight down on Me. An umbrella isn't just for wet days, I would happily recommend this for anyone wanting shade.

Jake Day

Really handy umbrella.

Really handy umbrella. A button opens it and collapses the canopy again, which makes it easy to manage. Used it in wet, breezy weather several times and it hasn't buckled on me. The frame feels substantial without being awkward to carry, and it packs down neatly. Money well spent.

Jaclyn Robinson

Good umbrella, works as expected.

Good umbrella, works as expected. My only hesitation is the space it needs when open. I live and work in Manhattan and i wanted less awkwardness on narrow sidewalks, where everyone's dodging everyone else's umbrella. It's comfortable for one, but sharing means staying pretty close together. The packed size is handy, which is what attracted me in the first place. Roughly 105cm is the width across the open canopy; folded up it's about 40cm long. Those are quite different measurements, worth keeping in mind if you're comparing umbrellas online. Anyway, i like it!

Brandon Allison

What a difference some shade makes!

What a difference some shade makes! Being underneath this umbrella on a sunny day feels so much nicer, like finding a spot beneath a tree. It's been reassuringly steady in a breeze as well. I expected a rain umbrella, but it's become something I want with me in sunshine too. Definitely not just for wet weather!

Bradley House

The construction feels sound and the opening mechanism has…

The construction feels sound and the opening mechanism has remained consistent. I've spent more on umbrellas without getting this same sense of solidity, so this has been a pleasant surprise. Through the wet weather we've had this year, it has continued to look tidy and operate smoothly. Weather is never predictable, but for regular rainy days this is something I feel confident taking along.

Colton Aguirre

i've found it a useful umbrella up to now.

i've found it a useful umbrella up to now. Not something I'd take out expecting to beat a storm, but it's managed the wet and blustery days here nicely. There is a bit of weight to carry, although the frame feels reassuring rather than flimsy. A couple of people at work have remarked on it too. The Black looks like the photos. Good value in my opinion.

Kaitlin Jordan

This new umbrella is lovely!

This new umbrella is lovely! This is my first one with a button that closes the canopy and it has been very useful getting into the car. I can fold it in before I get properly soaked, then shorten the shaft by hand once I'm seated. It covers more than my old umbrella, which was what I wanted, and seems a bit sturdier too. I've only had a few outings with it but people have already asked where I found it. I wish the shops near me offered more umbrellas that looked nice instead of the same few dull choices.

Erica Duke

Rain, wind, more rain....

This umbrella went into battle with the rain and came back looking smug! My old little one had lost the fight in a heavy downpour, so I needed something better. This turned up just ahead of another stretch of wet weather here in Rhode Island. Rain, wind, more rain....and I was still dry underneath. Only downside is it's heavier in my bag than I'd hoped. Otherwise, a pretty worthy replacement for my poor old umbrella.

Darius Frazier

My daughter is 11 and fairly tall, the size suited her fine.

We used this for my daughter's Halloween jellyfish costume and it worked out really well. The rounded canopy gave us the shape we wanted, and it still gets to be an umbrella afterwards -- not just a costume item. My daughter is 11 and fairly tall, the size suited her fine. Feels properly made, NOT like something you use once and throw away.

Norma Dyer

I can tuck this away and pretty much forget about it.

I didn't expect to have much to say about an umbrella, but this one has won me over. I'm travelling a lot and there's always one in my bag. I can tuck this away and pretty much forget about it. It's the combination I love, compact when it's packed and then such a generous canopy when I open it up.

Maxwell Lozano

Easy recommendation from me.

My last umbrella didn't survive a storm, so I was quite fussy about choosing its replacement. Settled on this one after looking around and I'm glad I did. The button gets the canopy up quickly and collapses it again, and the loop is comfortable to grip. It wraps into a tidy bundle afterward. Open, it gives me proper cover without feeling like I'm carrying a huge umbrella. It has also coped well with the breezy rain I've used it in. Easy recommendation from me. Oh... and if you're a man wondering about the blue, it looks absolutely fine.
