It sits comfortably in the palm.

The loop handle gives me a proper grip, rather than something to hold with two fingers. It sits comfortably in the palm. At this price the push-button opening is a welcome convenience. The canopy gives me plenty of cover too, without needing a huge umbrella. It seems well made and I feel the price is fair.

It's okay, enough cover for one person I would say.

It's okay, enough cover for one person I would say. Had a funny smell out of the packaging, though I suppose that's normal when it's been wrapped up. I would prefer the inside to be lighter, but the umbrella gives shade from the sun so I'm not really bothered about it.

This is easily the BEST umbrella I've had in my bag.

This is easily the BEST umbrella I've had in my bag. We had a really wet, windy day in NYC recently and it was just what I needed. Kept the rain off me and stayed the right way up the whole walk- no wrestling with it halfway down the street. With more wet weather coming I'll be keeping it in my handbag instead of leaving it at home.

Bigger opened up than I thought!

Bigger opened up than I thought! The material and frame both feel substantial, not like a flimsy throwaway umbrella. It has a sleeve and getting it back inside is easy enough. Mine is Cream White with the dark underside, quite a nice simple look. Since it arrived we've had no rain, so that side of things is still untested, but from what I can see I expect to get plenty of use from it!

-It has handled the wind I've encountered well.

I go to school in Hoboken, where rain quite often comes with wind, so an umbrella that is only useful when the air is completely still isn't much help. The cheaper ones I used before this did not last particularly well. There are usually enough abandoned umbrellas around after rainy weather to make you think about whether buying another cheap one is actually the economical option. I spent a while looking through reviews and trying to decide how much umbrella I really needed. Something sturdy was the main requirement, but I also didn't want to carry a full length umbrella around school all day. This one seemed to offer a reasonable balance. I wasn't expecting something indestructible, just something that would be less disposable than what I had been using. After about three months of carrying it and using it in rain, I'm very pleased with the choice. A few observations, since these were the things I was trying to find out before buying it. -The size is practical. Open, it gives me enough coverage that I don't have to keep adjusting where I'm holding it just to keep both shoulders underneath. It's roughly 105cm across, which is a useful amount of canopy for something that folds down. This is not an enormous umbrella for several people, and I wouldn't buy it expecting that. For one person it has been quite comfortable. Rain coming sideways will still get your lower legs, of course. There isn't much an umbrella of this type can do about that. Folded, it is about 40cm long, so compact doesn't mean it disappears into a small pocket. Nevertheless, it is considerably less awkward to carry between classes than a long umbrella. The weight is noticeable in your hand but hasn't been tiring in normal use. -It has handled the wind I've encountered well. I am a little reluctant to describe any umbrella as completely windproof, since there is always going to be weather where carrying one becomes more trouble than it is worth. What I can say is that this one has stayed in shape through the gusts on my usual walks. There is some movement in the canopy and ribs, rather than everything feeling rigid, but it settles back without my having to do anything. I try to keep it facing into the rain instead of letting the wind get underneath it. That is how I've always used umbrellas, and I don't see a reason to deliberately test this one to destruction. So far it has given me considerably more confidence than the inexpensive ones did. I can concentrate on where I'm walking instead of watching the umbrella all the time. -The construction feels substantial. There are 30 ribs, which is quite a lot when you look up inside it, and the fabric has support around the canopy rather than having large areas that seem to flap independently. I can't tell you anything scientific about the materials, but nothing on mine feels loose or carelessly fitted. The fabric looks evenly held when it is open. The shaft also feels secure in use, without needing to grip it particularly hard. I like the closed oval handle more than I expected to. It is a different shape from the straight handles I've generally used, but it gives me a comfortable place to hold on and hasn't been awkward to carry when folded. The button operation deserves a mention as well. Opening is quick, and I don't have to reach up into the wet fabric to get everything into position. Pressing the button again brings the canopy closed. You then push the telescoping shaft back down by hand, which is worth knowing if you're expecting the button to pull the entire umbrella into its folded length. It doesn't do that. Once I understood the sequence it was straightforward, and the mechanism feels definite rather than making me wonder whether it has caught properly. I find the closing button particularly useful when I want to get the canopy out of the way promptly. Folding the fabric neatly afterward still takes a little arranging, as it does with most umbrellas I've owned. There isn't really anything on mine that I feel needs fixing or modifying. My only qualification is that this is a fairly substantial compact umbrella, not the very light little sort you forget you are carrying. For me that is an acceptable tradeoff. The whole reason for replacing my previous umbrellas was to have something I felt comfortable actually using when the weather wasn't pleasant. Overall, this has done what I bought it for and has been pleasant to use besides. I would recommend it to someone looking for an everyday umbrella with decent coverage who still wants it to fold down. I may put up some pictures later, since seeing it open and folded would probably explain the size better than the product picture alone.

Grace Cameron

I have enjoyed using it and would happily recommend it.

This umbrella has been useful for rainy walks, for carrying on the golf course, and even for a bit of shade at the beach. Good value in my opinion, and the smooth opening action makes it feel like a carefully made item. The cream white is clean and attractive--a very pleasing colour. I had not expected so many flexible ribs in a compact umbrella. It is reassuringly substantial without being awkward to take along. I have enjoyed using it and would happily recommend it.

Angelica Raymond

I wanted something feeling solid again.

I had a good strong one before, then unfortunately I lose it. The next umbrella wasn't so nice in bad weather, so I decide not to keep paying for average quality ones. I wanted something feeling solid again. This umbrella is very nice, easy opening and a comfortable design for carrying, it make a good replacement and I like it very much!

Ralph Santos

Very pleased with my choice!

After the wind finished off my old umbrella I wanted something that looked a little more cheerful.I picked green because it's a favorite of mine and I actually enjoy taking this out when it rains. :)It feels sturdy without being awkward to carry, and there's a nice amount of room over me. Very pleased with my choice!

Frank Jefferson

Whoever has it now has a useful umbrella.

Seemed sturdier than the folding umbrellas I've used before. The best part was closing the canopy with the button! So much easier when getting into the car instead of wrestling with it and dripping water everywhere. The final manual push to shorten it needed a little effort, but nothing unmanageable. Unfortunately I left it behind on my last trip, so I can't say how it would last long term. Whoever has it now has a useful umbrella. I would be tempted to get another!

Yesenia Glenn

This is just the sort of umbrella I wanted.

This is just the sort of umbrella I wanted. It opens straight away with the button, and another press gathers the canopy neatly. I've only had it out a few times so far, but the overall build gives me confidence. It doesn't have that flimsy feeling where you expect the next breeze to turn everything inside out. The oval loop handle suits my larger hands and is easy to get a proper hold of. The part over your head, the canopy I suppose you'd call it, spreads out more than you might expect from something that folds down like this. That matters more to me than any label about who an umbrella is meant for. A solid, practical choice in my opinion.

Maureen Nguyen

My son is so fond of this umbrella.

My son is so fond of this umbrella. Being three, he isn't exactly gentle with things, but it still looks good after being carried about and played with! The gray looks smart and everything feels firmly put together. I especially appreciate the opening button instead of having to work a catch up the pole. He helps with the button while I hold it steady, then I take care of pushing it down afterwards.

Stuart Dean

The handle feels secure and the folding size is manageable in my bag.

Walking around the city, you seem to get two choices: a tiny umbrella that barely covers your head, or something that looks like it belongs over a garden table. This lands in the sensible space between. I'm 6'4 and need a bit of coverage, but I don't want to occupy the entire pavement every time it rains. It also looks tidy enough to carry into a business meeting, rather than looking as though I've wandered away from a golf tournament. The handle feels secure and the folding size is manageable in my bag. Mine has had a year's use, including wet and breezy days, and still works just as it should. Nothing dramatic to report, just a well made umbrella that I actually like carrying.

Melody Maxwell

Handy opening button!

There is more give in the frame than I expected, but it still feels sturdy and that flexibility doesn't worry me. The shaft is a little short for how I like to hold an umbrella. That's a personal thing rather than a problem with it. Handy opening button! On the whole I'm satisfied.

Alejandro Hobbs

Bought it for my wife at Christmas.

Bought it for my wife at Christmas. Her request was "small", and it goes in her larger handbag fine. She likes being able to press the button and get covered straight away. It's really for one person, not two of us. Her only grumble is that the canopy closes by button but the shaft still needs pushing down to reset.

Benjamin Camacho

The black looks smart and the construction feels good.

There's a decent amount of cover here without it being one of those enormous umbrellas you have to carry at full length. The black looks smart and the construction feels good. I wouldn't put it in my smallest purse, but it's manageable to carry and not especially heavy for the coverage. Mine will stay in the car so it's there when we need it. It'll also come along on family days out, whether there's a shower or we just want a little shade. I can see it being useful when watching an outdoor game as well, where you end up sitting about for ages. I'm happy with the purchase and it feels like something I'll be able to keep using for a long time.

Frances Hebert

Better finished than I expected for the price.

Better finished than I expected for the price. Mine is green on top and black underneath. Pressing the button spreads the canopy, and another press folds it down; you shorten the pole yourself afterwards. Simple once you've tried it. The seams look tidy and everything feels well assembled. Delivery to Germany was quick as well.

Judy Anderson

Packed carefully.

Packed carefully. Didn't take long to arrive. Such a pretty umbrella, and nothing complicated about using it!! Opened it inside to see... fingers crossed the bad luck doesn't count :) Ha! The button folds the canopy back down as well! Never owned one that did that! It's easily the nicest one I've had. Usually I want nothing to do with rain, but I actually caught myself hoping for some so I could try it outdoors!

Eddie Gomez

Hello folks, got my umbrella and I'm Very pleased.

Hello folks, got my umbrella and I'm Very pleased.first look had me thinking it wouldn't cover much because it folds down so short, then I opened it and there was a lot more room than expected. This is going in my golf bag for the weekends. Too many times I've sat in the cart waiting for a shower to finish and still got damp. At least now I'll have some proper cover while I wait.It has a sleeve as well and the folded umbrella goes in my golf bag nicely!!For the price I wasn't expecting anything special, but the whole thing feels better than that. HAPPY GOLFER!Maybe that helps someone decide. Now just need the rain to stay away.

Sabrina Taylor

After using it for a year or two....

A news programme had spoken well of this umbrella, which got me interested enough to order one. After using it for a year or two....I can say that was MONEY WELL SPENT. Not one issue with it so far. It has coped with the breezy days I've been out in and is still my regular umbrella. Might be time to get a couple more to have around! :-)

Dorothy Ellison

For places where a rainy day usually comes with a breeze, I'd…

For places where a rainy day usually comes with a breeze, I'd recommend this. It feels more secure in my hand than the flimsy folding umbrellas I've used before. It isn't the tiniest thing to carry, which is the only real downside for me, but on days when rain is forecast I'm happy to make room for something that gives decent cover.

Carl Underwood

Very impressed with the quality and how solid these umbrellas feel.

Very impressed with the quality and how solid these umbrellas feel. They open out to give good cover, while the flexible ribs seem a sensible design for handling a bit of wind. Folded up, mine fits comfortably in a backpack. At this price I would happily pick up another couple to keep handy.

Joy Ferguson

This one works well and seems solid, so no complaint there.

...I 'agree' about the folded size: it's a decent umbrella, but I'd hoped for something 'smaller'. An automatic umbrella I've owned for years opens a little wider yet takes less space in my bag. This one works well and seems solid, so no complaint there. Perhaps I should have been searching for a 'mini' umbrella instead. My idea of "compact" was something that would almost disappear into a handbag when folded.

Glenda Clay

Easy enough to carry and the beige is lovely...

Raised in Phoenix and living most of my grown-up life in the NW, I still head back to AZ to see my folks. Wanted something nice looking to give me shade on those visits. This fits th' bill! Easy enough to carry and the beige is lovely...A bit of shade without looking like I'm off on an expedition. Delightful!

Lindsey Cobb

the handle is an enclosed oval loop, not the traditional curved hook.

This umbrella has some of the solid, uncomplicated feel of the ones I remember from growing up, although it folds down much smaller. It has stood up well to rainy weather too. I chose pink, and the outside has a simple appearance rather than a busy pattern. Anyone considering it should check the folded picture alongside the open view; the handle is an enclosed oval loop, not the traditional curved hook. The side view makes that distinction clearer. The pink fabric and black underside are also worth looking at separately. Pictures taken from above naturally show mostly the outside, so they don't give much sense of how it looks when you are standing underneath. I added a couple of photographs to show those details in ordinary light. The price I paid felt reasonable for something with this substantial feel. Someone wanting a plain everyday umbrella might appreciate the straightforward appearance as much as I do. The button opening is convenient, but my main concern was having decent cover without carrying a long umbrella everywhere. This isn't the smallest folded umbrella available, though it fits comfortably in the car or beside my desk without taking over the space. UPDATE: There doesn't seem to be a separate customer-photo button anymore. My two pictures show the pink canopy and the closed handle more clearly than I can explain them here. They should still be accessible through the pictures attached to my reviews, but finding them now involves a little more searching.

Jerry Bernard

Also needed it to be a proper adult umbrella, not a tiny novelty one.

I wanted a gift for a friend who likes cute things, but not something covered in a big busy design that would look childish. Also needed it to be a proper adult umbrella, not a tiny novelty one. This was just the right balance. Nice looking without being over the top, a sensible price, and plenty of cover. She was thrilled!

Brianna Joyce

For what I paid I'm impressed with all three.

These have dealt with our rainy days really well. The children haven't exactly been gentle with them either, playing outside with them up, and they've coped with the breezes too. For what I paid I'm impressed with all three. I'd recommend them to anyone wanting a decent everyday umbrella.

Keith Sheppard

There's comfortable coverage for me.

My old umbrella had reached the stage where opening it involved rather more persuasion than I wanted to give it. It had done years of service without turning itself inside out, despite the number of abandoned umbrellas I pass on wet pavements. Still usable, just creaky, with a handle that looked its age. Time for a replacement, and I chose this compact one. The first thing worth saying is that this is a carry-around umbrella, not one of those enormous ones. There's comfortable coverage for me. Two people can get underneath, provided neither is particularly attached to having their own space. The button makes opening it straightforward, with none of the coaxing my old one needed. Mine lives in the outside bottle holder of my backpack rather than inside a handbag. That makes more difference than it sounds - an umbrella left at home isn't much use, however good it is. This is small enough that I leave it there and don't have to make a separate decision about taking it. I still keep a bigger umbrella for occasions when I know there will be two of us. It doesn't travel with me every day, though. I've recommended this compact one to a few people already; having something practical that is easy to carry is the main point for me. I'd happily choose it again.

So pleased I went ahead and got this umbrella.

So pleased I went ahead and got this umbrella. Its comfortable to carry and doesn't feel like a burden in my hand. The loop handle gives me a good hold. Once opened theres a nice amount of cover, enough for me without having to tuck my shoulders in. Most important, I come home dry. I'd gladly tell friends to get one!!! A very good buy!

Derek Madden

great umbrella.

great umbrella. Bought it for a wet winter in europe and have been really pleased. Easy to carry, folds down neatly and gives enough coverage for me and my briefcase. Can squeeze someone alongside if necessary, though it is better for one. Having the canopy close with a button is useful when one hand is occupied. You still need to mind other people on busy pavements and lift it as they pass, but that is a small thing for staying dry.

Derek Salinas

Had it out roughly four times over the last couple of rainy days.

Had it out roughly four times over the last couple of rainy days. Fine on every outing. Getting it put away from the car seat was the awkward part, not much room to press it down. One press gets it open and another shuts the canopy. After that you compress the pole by hand, which needs a fairly firm push.

Eddie Bautista

So worth it for me.

Im a small person and walk everywhere in the city, so giant umbrellas just get in other people's way.I've wasted plenty on flimsy cheap ones. This feels like a proper umbrella without taking over the pavement. When you walk as much as I do, paying a bit more for something solid makes sense. So worth it for me.

Kristopher Pruitt

The shade underneath feels lovely and cool.

I've used it over 2 hot summers in Houston and really love it. The shade underneath feels lovely and cool. Now I can go walking after 10 am, which the strong sun made too much for me before. I don't take it for little walks though. To the store for example, it feels quite big and heavy for that, but when I go walking longer I wouldn't be without it.

Alicia Juarez

Very good so far....

Very good so far....I had one before but lost it somewhere. Only thing to get used to....the canopy shuts on the button, then I have to push the shaft down myself......caught myself waiting for it to do everything. I'll remember eventually. Still a great umbrella

Amber Huber

A very good choice.

Timing could not have been better with this present for my husband. We had days of heavy rain and wind soon after I gave it to him, and he would otherwise have been taking his torn old umbrella. He's been very happy with this one (apparently I can now predict the weather). His morning walk is only a few blocks, but that is quite enough to get drenched without decent cover. Folded, this isn't a nuisance for him to take along. I'm tempted to buy a second for his office so one is always there. A very good choice.

Sierra Parrish

Good finish, good feel, and a smart looking umbrella.

Good finish, good feel, and a smart looking umbrella. Living in the Pacific Northwest means it gets plenty of opportunities to come out, with wind often accompanying the rain. It feels reassuringly substantial without being a chore to take along. The size suits me nicely. Presentable enough for work, but equally at home down by the waterfront.

Kylie Vaughn

This is a Beautiful Umbrella and it looks even nicer in person.

This is a Beautiful Umbrella and it looks even nicer in person. The first one made me smile as soon as I opened it!! There is something about that simple shape and the contrast underneath that I just love. I bought one, then went back for another about six months later because I was still so taken with it!!!!I had noticed umbrellas like this at a show in Los Angeles and the image stayed with me. Finding one I could actually use rather than just admire was wonderful. Both of mine have been lovely, nicely finished and pleasant to carry. Maybe I am getting carried away over an umbrella, but when something makes a rainy day look prettier I think that deserves some enthusiasm

Kirsten Mayo

Feels like an umbrella that should stick around.

Feels like an umbrella that should stick around. Strong frame and not awkward to carry, and people do a double take when the button shuts the canopy as well as opening it. Pretty well put together. You still push the shaft back down by hand, which is no big job. I'm not going to claim it can take any storm you put it in, but for normal rain it has been great. Now I just need to remember where I leave it. Losing it seems more likely than wearing it out.

Veronica Munoz

Bought this to cope with the wet weather here in New Hampshire...

Bought this to cope with the wet weather here in New Hampshire... I've used it several times now, including some rain with awkward gusts, and it's done a good job... Enough room under it to keep me covered, but not an enormous thing to carry around. I also like the plain appearance and the loop handle, it feels comfortable in my hand... Doesn't look out of place going into the office or taking it to a game. I can't speak for every storm, but for the rain I've had so far this has been a good solid umbrella and I am pleased with it.

Louis Castillo

The frame is what stands out to me here.

We've worked through far too many flimsy umbrellas, and a higher price hasn't always meant a better one. The frame is what stands out to me here. It has 30 flexible ribs, so there is some give rather than everything feeling rigid and fragile. The construction feels substantial without turning it into a huge thing to carry. Small details matter with something you fold up and open repeatedly, and this seems well thought out in that respect. I'm not claiming to know how many years it will last. For everyday use, though, I'd rather have one like this than keep buying flimsy replacements.

Lynn Compton

Good value for something that takes so little space.

Good value for something that takes so little space. I used to get caught by sudden rain when away and then have to find an umbrella, now this goes along instead... Feels manageable to carry about... Looks just like the picture, though I wouldn't call the coverage generous for someone with a bigger build.

Candice Ochoa

On the days it actually rains, this thing is great.

So i finally get an umbrella because it's pouring and a guy can't stay wet forever, right? Then the rain basically takes six months off. Not claiming weather powers here, but that is suspicious timing! On the days it actually rains, this thing is great. Until then it sits there looking ready. THE CLOUDS KNOW I'M PREPARED NOW, THAT'S MY THEORY.

Jordan Holloway

Not flashy, but a good looking umbrella.

I've had enough cheap umbrellas to appreciate one that feels properly put together. This has been the nicest compact one I've owned. Folded it's about 40cm long and weighs roughly 390g. Open they give it as around 105cm across (I haven't measured that part myself). The fabric feels decent and the frame has 30 flexible ribs supporting it. Quite a difference from the thin little things I've used before. The gray looks clean and smart, and the fabric sits neatly when it's open. There's a black underside too. Not flashy, but a good looking umbrella. Coverage is good for me, with room around my shoulders instead of having to hold it absolutely perfectly. We had a proper downpour recently and my brother and I tried standing under it together. We had to stay close but it kept the rain off us. I wouldn't call it something for several adults though, it's definitely more comfortable with one person. That size makes it practical for keeping in the car and carrying into a shop. You still need to leave it open somewhere to dry after a soaking. I put mine in the kitchen rather than leaving it wet in the car, and it didn't take over the whole room. The handle feels solid and is comfortable to hold. It's a closed oval loop, which looks a bit different from the handles I'm used to (in a good way). The button opens it up and also folds the canopy shut. You then press the telescoping section back into the handle yourself. Easy enough once you've done it, and I appreciate not having to gather the whole thing down by hand in the rain. It comes with a carry sleeve to put it away in. I find myself smoothing out the fabric before putting it in there because I want to keep it looking nice, not all scrunched up. Probably says something about how much I like it. 5 stars. For a handy umbrella that feels GOOD to use, I'd happily recommend this one.

Shaun Mcneil

A very happy boy and mom!

My four year old son was so excited to have his own umbrella! He can press the button to open it, which he's very pleased about. I help push the shaft back down after the canopy closes. Much easier than wrestling with a fiddly manual one when it's raining and mom already has her hands full. A very happy boy and mom!

Dana Cole

That is also my one reservation.

After finding several umbrellas disappointing in gusty weather, this one has been a welcome change. I've used it for about six months now and it has coped well with the wind I've been out in. It doesn't feel particularly heavy to carry, and there's a good amount of cover once it's open. That is also my one reservation. I would find a narrower canopy a little easier when passing people on busy city streets. Still, I'd rather allow a bit more room and have an umbrella that feels dependable.

Linda Mora

I've had others turn inside out or flap about on that route.

Needed a sturdier replacement after my old umbrella gave up on the walk to work. My route runs along the waterfront / park / open road, so there's not much shelter when the wet weather blows in off the water. I've had others turn inside out or flap about on that route. This one has stayed steady on the walks I've used it for so far!

Travis Pacheco

A very useful umbrella that I'm happy to recommend.

Direct sunshine is hard for me to tolerate, so this comes along on my daily walks. It gives me a useful patch of shade without being awkward to carry. The construction feels sound and it has dealt with rain as well. A very useful umbrella that I'm happy to recommend.

Alice Allen

It has turned out to be a good decision.

After far too long comparing umbrellas and reading reviews, I finally chose this one. It has turned out to be a good decision. It came carefully packed, and both the handle and the opening mechanism have a reassuringly solid feel. The overall appearance is simple and classic rather than fussy. More importantly, my wife and I stood close under it in a downpour and stayed dry. On the strength of using it, I would recommend it.

Becky Hart

Much handier than a big, bulky umbrella.

Feels very well put together. All those ribs give the canopy a nicely rounded shape and it sheds rain well. There's enough substance without that feeling of carrying a whole tent above you. Much handier than a big, bulky umbrella. I liked mine enough to get one for a friend.

Gloria Arroyo

Otherwise I'm quite satisfied.

I've had my old umbrella for several years and it was getting tired, so this is the replacement. A useful design overall; when it's open there's enough coverage for me and what I'm carrying - handbag, work bag, that sort of thing. What takes a little getting used to is pressing the stem back in after the canopy shuts. Otherwise I'm quite satisfied.

Peter Delacruz

I'd be happy to shop here again.

At last, an umbrella with the sort of design I wanted! My old one had done twenty years and was looking very tired, so replacing it felt overdue. I liked it so much I worried about finding something I'd enjoy carrying as much. This one has been a pleasing choice. The price seemed fair and it arrived quickly too. I'd be happy to shop here again.
