i could recommend it for everyday use, with that reservation.

i missed the umbrella i left at the bus station, as it had lasted me years. i hoped this would be much the same to use. it is alright, and the button makes opening it convenient, but i am not as confident with it when the weather gets rough. a strong gust turned the canopy inside out, then it came back again. nothing broke, it just did not feel as steady as my old one. for normal rain it has kept me dry and folds small enough to take along. i would not call it a bad umbrella, just not quite the replacement i had in mind. i could recommend it for everyday use, with that reservation.

Happy to recommend it.

Came neatly packed and everything looked in good order. I ordered it for my husband to leave in his car, since we like having an umbrella in each car. Matches the pictures as well. Costs a little more than I'd usually spend on one, but it feels nicely made. Happy to recommend it.

Who says a rainy day can't feel a little feminine?

Who says a rainy day can't feel a little feminine? This umbrella has such a pretty, simple shape that I enjoy carrying it. No need for anything fancy to make me feel put together. I've already had compliments and the usual, :"Where did you find that?" A bit of prettiness makes walking through puddles much less of a chore. And yes, I'm 66.

Nice umbrella, and it packs down without taking over my bag.

Nice umbrella, and it packs down without taking over my bag. A slightly easier fit into the sleeve would have made this a five star purchase. It's fine once I've tidied the folds, just a little more fuss than I'd choose. The blue outside looks cheerful without being loud and the plain black underneath suits me. Overall I'm happy with it.

This has given me good cover in heavy showers and seems solid.

Too many of my little umbrellas have turned themselves inside out, so I wanted one that felt more dependable. This has given me good cover in heavy showers and seems solid. A little more weight to lug about than I'd prefer, but I'll take that over getting soaked again.

Colton Stanley

Such a lovely looking umbrella.

Such a lovely looking umbrella. Folded, it's still a bit chunkier than I'd want in my smallest bag, which is the one annoyance. Otherwise I'm delighted with it. Feels quite durable, and it's something I'd happily choose again rather than just settling for any old umbrella.

Treated myself to an umbrella.

Treated myself to an umbrella.I like the simple design and how easily it opens, makes a sensible little present to yourself , I think. The one I had before got left on public transport and I never saw it again. This would be a useful gift for somebody you care about too.

Good umbrella for the money...

Good umbrella for the money... my main reservation is what counts as "compact". Folded, it's still longer than the space I have in my work bag (I carry quite a bit already, so that's partly me). It ends up being something I carry separately rather than forget in the bottom of the bag. On the other hand, once opened there's a decent amount of coverage, so I can see where the extra size goes. The oval handle also takes a bit of getting used to, but I don't find it uncomfortable. I haven't put it through really rough weather, so can't say much on that front yet. For the rain I've had so far it's been useful. Somewhere between three and four stars, rounded up.

The photos really don't do it justice.

This is an EXCELLENT umbrella, the finish and the overall feel are better than I expected. The photos really don't do it justice. Those flexible ribs feel substantial, not flimsy, and the whole thing looks much nicer in person than on screen.I'm impressed with the quality and style, very glad I went for this one.

It feels light to carry, although it's quite broad once opened.

This is the first umbrella I've had in years that's come through some strong gusts without giving up. I've been through plenty that didn't, including smaller ones I expected more from. Six months in, this one has handled some pretty blustery days and the tail end of a storm. It feels light to carry, although it's quite broad once opened. Something smaller would be easier to get around with on crowded city streets, which is what I'd prefer. But I'm willing to put up with the size for one that seems well made.

Very happy with how useful this umbrella is.

Very happy with how useful this umbrella is. I take it along when my granddaughter wants to play at the park and it gives me a comfortable bit of shade while I watch her. A couple of people have asked about it. Feels solid in the hand and isn't complicated to open.

Not a reason to stop using it, just worth knowing.

Having lived in places where the weather changes a lot, I tend to look for something that feels dependable rather than just looks nice. This one has done well in the showers I've used it in, from light drizzle to heavier rain. Closing it completely takes more effort then I expected. The button gathers the canopy, but the telescoping section needs to be pressed in manually until it clicks. Not a reason to stop using it, just worth knowing. The oval handle feels secure in my hand and doesn't seem slippery. Open size suits me well, not a huge golfing umbrella but enough room for me and the bag I'm carrying. Folded it goes in my backpack, which is what I wanted.

There is room for her to grow, which is nice.

Bought this for rainy walks with my average-sized three-year-old daughter. She treats her things gently, so I can't say yet how it would take rough use. So far it has been very good for keeping her covered. It opens quite wide for a little one, so I help carry it and keep it high enough for her to see where she's going. That suits us better than having her looking around the edge. There is room for her to grow, which is nice. The cream white is pretty and she enjoys taking it along. A cheerful addition to our walks in wet weather.

Daniel Buckley

A plain black umbrella can suit little ones and grown ups too.

A plain black umbrella can suit little ones and grown ups too. This feels well made, not just something for pretend rain games. Fine for actual wet weather. Price seemed reasonable. Wish it took a little less room once folded, but, oh well, still very happy with it.

The frame feels strong, with some give in the ribs when there's a breeze. I particularly like being able to open and collapse the canopy using the button. The only downside is a little more weight than I expected for a folding umbrella. That doesn't bother me much in practice, because it has kept me dry when the rain really comes down.

Suzanne Rogers

Would recommend without hesitation.

Well! This turned out pretty much how I'd hoped. I'm a Big Guy, so one of those umbrellas that barely covers your head is no use to me. This one gives me decent cover without being a huge thing to lug around. Press the button and up it goes, and another press draws the canopy shut - that part works GREAT!You still have to push the shaft down yourself, which is easy enough once you know. The ribs feel substantial, but the umbrella is not some enormous heavy stick. I can keep it in the car, bring it to work, or put it in my golf bag rather than having a different monster for each place. Beige is plain enough to go anywhere. Honestly, for something that folds down this neatly, I'm impressed with how useful it is. Would recommend without hesitation.

The build was a nice surprise when it arrived.

The build was a nice surprise when it arrived. It folds away neatly in my six year old sons backpack, which was what I needed. He thinks it is great and has no trouble with the button. Covers him well when it rains. Its been a good purchase and much easier for him to take along.

Hard to want my old umbrella after using this.

My sister liked my umbrella so much that she ended up with it and I had to get myself another. It's been very good at keeping me dry when the rain comes across at an angle, and people do notice it. Hard to want my old umbrella after using this. It's not the tiniest folded umbrella, so carrying it around can be a bit annoying, but that hasn't put me off. The first one still looked really good after a year, so getting another was an easy decision.

Harry Mendez

" My answer is, "Yes, this one!

Easy enough to keep this umbrella with me instead of leaving it behind. I've tucked it in a back pocket when necessary, but it normally lives in my backpack. A quick button press gets it fully open, with enough canopy to keep me dry, then it packs away small.Umbrellas don't get used very often around here, so buying one isn't something most people give much thought. The rain arrives and suddenly they're standing there with some useless thing, wondering, "Is there a decent umbrella out there?" My answer is, "Yes, this one!" Seeing how quickly it opens and how little space it needs usually convinces them; next time around, they've got one too.

William Baxter

That loop handle makes me unreasonably happy.

That loop handle makes me unreasonably happy. I've had three umbrellas now, mostly because I leave things behind... The green one is my latest and I am rather attached to it. Enough room for two if we huddle together while walking, works great, and I actually enjoy holding the thing. How have I become this excited over an umbrella?!

Helen Baldwin

I wanted something for shade because my skin burns so easily.

I wanted something for shade because my skin burns so easily. I didn't have very high hopes when I ordered, but it has been a pleasant surprise. It feels steady when a breeze picks up, the fabric still looks good and there are no rough places on the handle. Still packs away neatly after using it. I love taking it out!

Michelle Robertson

This is a fairly ordinary umbrella for the money.

The photos are a fair guide to the appearance, FYI. This is a fairly ordinary umbrella for the money. Rain stays off and the opening button is useful, but compact is doing some work in that description. It is still a sizable thing folded, and not especially light in a small bag. Fine for basic use, just not particularly exciting.

Mathew Wu

It's a solid umbrella.

Mine has been with me for years, and I've given a few as gifts and even mentioned it on my blog. It's a solid umbrella. The button opening and canopy closing are a big help when I'm carrying other things. Folded, it's about 40cm, so not one of those tiny pocket umbrellas, but you do get a useful amount of cover. That trade off has suited me very well. Definitely one I'd recommend!

Rebekah Tucker

Worth keeping despite that extra effort.

There's plenty of room underneath and I like using a button to put it up and collapse the top. My one reservation is pushing the shaft back down afterwards, which needs quite a firm push. That is the normal way it packs down, but I can see it being awkward if you have arthritic hands. Otherwise it feels solid and has kept the rain off me, including when it was a bit windy. Worth keeping despite that extra effort.

Leroy Brooks

It looked gorgeous and would be lovely to carry for summer shade.

I returned it because the person I'd given it to likes a smaller umbrella. That was a matter of taste, not anything wrong with it. It looked gorgeous and would be lovely to carry for summer shade. I'd certainly consider another from Haven, just pay closer attention to what the person actually wants next time.

Riley Taylor

A good buy.

If your fed up replacing flimsy umbrellas, this one feels worth the extra money. Mine came quickly while the wet weather was still here, so I put it straight to use. Rain stayed off me and it didn't fold backwards when the wind picked up. Seems well built rather than something I'll be replacing again soon. A good buy.

It always seemed solid enough for the wet, blustery days here in NYC.

I had one of these a couple of years back and it was the umbrella I actually remembered to take out, mostly because it was easy to carry and opened quickly. It always seemed solid enough for the wet, blustery days here in NYC. Then it went the way most of my compact umbrellas go.....I put it down somewhere and never saw it again. Nothing wrong with the umbrella, just my ability to hang onto things. After making do with whatever was handy for a while, it occurred to me.....why am I looking for a different one when I liked that one ? So here I am with another. The frame has the same reassuring feel I remember. The release button needs a slightly firmer push this time, not a big problem but noticeable. Pressing it again pulls the canopy in, and I compress the stem to pack it away. Early days with the replacement.....so far I'm satisfied, and it's nice not having to think about whether I've got a decent umbrella with me. Now I just need to remember where I leave it.

Margaret Hahn

Delighted with how this umbrella works.

Delighted with how this umbrella works. It has a nice wide canopy for something I can fold away, so I don't feel like I have to tuck my shoulders in all the time. The loop handle feels a little light though, so I wouldn't hand it to a small child to swing about like a sword or anything. It hasn't given me any trouble, it just makes me want to treat it sensibly. The best bit for me is the opening mechanism. Maybe I've been using old umbrellas for too long, but I am used to hunting for a tiny metal catch and trying not to pinch my finger. (Ow!) Here I just press and it springs up on its own. Another press pulls the canopy together, and then I push the telescoping stem in to pack it away. That last part is by hand, not another button trick. Nothing sharp to fiddle with while I am trying to close it. Very satisfying! It arrived quickly as well. Thank you!

When the black umbrella came I was so pleased!

I had already paid more for an umbrella like this and then spotted this one for less. I don't usually take a chance on something when I haven't bought from the seller before, so I wasn't sure what I would get. When the black umbrella came I was so pleased! It looked just as nice and worked the way I wanted. I kept this one instead of the more expensive purchase. Definitely glad I took the chance.

A bit dramatic for an umbrella, probably.

"BEGONE, MISERABLE CLOUDS, I'VE COME PREPARED!" is more or less the speech in my head when I pull this out of its sleeve. A bit dramatic for an umbrella, probably. I've only had it a few days, but so far it's done its job and has attracted a couple of compliments (plus a funny look or two). It *seems* solid, although a few days isn't exactly a durability test. One thing I've noticed is how the handle end sticks out when I stuff it into my bag. I manage to catch it on doorways sometimes. Not the umbrella's fault really, just my talent for putting things away badly. I keep thinking I should reorganise the bag rather than charge through every door like I'm off on a quest, idk. Anyway... this thing is COOL! Seattle gives me enough rainy days that it certainly won't sit around unused.

My fiance was happy with this umbrella as a gift.

My fiance was happy with this umbrella as a gift. It's a useful size when open, I mean it covers him properly without being a huge thing to carry. We can squeeze under it together for a short walk in the rain, although it's definitely more comfortable for one. It feels strong and we haven't had it turn inside out so far. Nice umbrella overall, and he likes how quickly it opens.

Briana Townsend

Good coverage across my head and upper body too.

The material feels good and the umbrella has been genuinely useful! I walk from the subway to work wearing a suit, and in summer that can get pretty uncomfortable. Holding this over me keeps the direct sun off instead of it beating down on my shoulders the whole way. Still a hot walk of course, but noticeably nicer in the shade. Good coverage across my head and upper body too.

First impressions are of a solid and carefully made product.

First impressions are of a solid and carefully made product. The flexible ribs give the frame a reassuring feel, though I cannot judge its long-term durability yet. It is also attractive and pleasant to hold, which does no harm. The supplied sleeve is useful, although I still allow the umbrella to dry before putting it in my bag. In any case, I am fully satisfied with this purchase.

Tasha Pearson

The button works well and there's enough cover for normal showers.

Travel around SE Asia a lot and an umbrella stays in my bag because rain can appear out of nowhere. This one fits in my day bag and isn't a pain to take along. The button works well and there's enough cover for normal showers. A monsoon is another matter, that's when I'm looking for a roof!!

The quality is what has won her over.

I gave my sister the cream white umbrella for her birthday and it has become something she keeps in the car all the time. She was impressed with how solid it felt and has already hinted that a second one for her office would make a good Christmas present. My sister is not somebody who gets excited about things just because they are new, so that says something. Where we live the weather can change very quickly, including a bit of wind with the rain. She says it feels steady to hold and is much better made than she expected. The quality is what has won her over.

Garrett Holloway

Appearance wise, the blue is nice.

On first inspection the frame seems quite substantial. I couldn't tell you exactly what all the parts are made from, but they don't have that thin, flimsy appearance you sometimes get with compact umbrellas. There is some flexibility in the ribs, which seems preferable to everything being completely rigid. That said, I haven't actually taken it out in the rain yet. So this is about how it looks and feels, not a claim that I've put it through terrible weather. I'll come back to this if my initial impression proves wrong. Appearance wise, the blue is nice. The handle is a closed oval loop, and in person it's rather more noticeable than I had expected. At first I thought it looked a little clunky. I would probably have chosen something less prominent, but then I thought...having something substantial to get hold of with wet hands is probably more useful than a particularly sleek appearance. The sleeve isn't anything remarkable. Just an ordinary umbrella cover, perfectly adequate for putting it away, but not something I'd attach much value to. The reason I'm stopping at four stars is really that handle size. For my taste the loop could be a little smaller. Otherwise, my first impression is a good one.

Marisa Potts

Arrived quickly.

Arrived quickly. It feels light enough for my bag and gives welcome shade as well as rain cover. The telescoping section looks quite slim, although it feels fine in use. I wanted something to keep with me on those days when the forecast can't make its mind up. It suits that purpose well.

Julian Lamb

it arrived when expected, all packed up nicely.

it arrived when expected, all packed up nicely. I'm delighted with this one..!!! already had a smaller umbrella that could go in my purse or backpack. i wanted a bit more cover for trips out to the lake and this feels right for that. Good shade to sit under and still manageable to bring along. when i need another umbrella i'll be looking for something like this again.

Amber Becker

If I ever need another umbrella I'd happily choose the same one!

I'm used to little umbrellas that barely cover me and this feels so much nicer in the rain! The cream white is really pretty and people have commented on it already. It's easy to hold by the loop and the button saves me fighting to open it.I like how neatly it folds away afterwards too.If I ever need another umbrella I'd happily choose the same one! :)

Gail Conley

All in all a great umbrella for the money.

I was nervous the automatic opening would give me a big jolt, but it spreads out smoothly! Much nicer to use than I expected. The pink looks lovely, and the oval loop handle feels comfortable in my hand. All in all a great umbrella for the money. I'm delighted with it!

Mitchell Pruitt

Really pleased with how they looked!

Bought three for the flower girls at my wedding and I'm so happy with them! The girls were delighted too! They feel nicely made, and even my very lively little sisters managed them fine. Getting them here took a bit longer than I'd hoped, but I had allowed plenty of time. Really pleased with how they looked!

Kristopher Hurst

A tough little umbrella yes.

A tough little umbrella yes. The folding sections mean you have to press it all the way together after the canopy shuts (normal for this sort right?). It's coped proficiently with the wet weeks we've just had.The automatic action is useful, but it needs that reset before it'll pop up again.Takes far less space than a full length one.

Emma Avila

The finish and construction are excellent.

Lost my first one after two years, and liked it enough to replace it. The finish and construction are excellent. It gives good shelter for one person, but don't expect your trousers to stay dry when rain is blowing sideways. The balance is nice, although you still need a firm grip when it gets gusty. It folds down for carrying, which suits me better than a long umbrella. The button deals with the canopy both ways; the telescoping section needs pushing together afterwards. Not difficult once you're used to it. I wouldn't choose this size for sharing with someone. For my own everyday use it does what I ask of it, and I'm giving it five stars.

Gregg Michael

I'm very fond of this as a parasol.

I'm very fond of this as a parasol. People often ask about it when I'm out, and having my own patch of shade made last summer much more comfortable. I'm a fair skinned redhead, so being stuck in direct sun isn't something I enjoy. I used it at the country fair in Oregon and again at my school reunion at the ranch in Malibu, both on really hot days. It was lovely not having the sun in my face the whole time...I feel better knowing it's in my bag if there's nowhere shady to stand. It looks nice without being fussy, too! Once I'm done it folds down into a manageable shape, and carrying it hasn't been a bother. A genuinely useful thing to have.

Theodore Cole

We have a couple of these and both have been useful.

We have a couple of these and both have been useful.***update:Still have them, though they haven't had the same amount of use since our move from Germany to the states. This one stays in my car now we're in Florida. It has held up well, but to be fair it hasn't been out all that often over the past three years, so not a hard test

Brandy Curry

The beige is lovely, such a nice look against the black underneath.

The beige is lovely, such a nice look against the black underneath. That oval handle is a neat little detail too. It covers me and my backpack without feeling like a burden to carry, and folds down to a sensible size. Button action feels smooth. I'm really pleased with it and would happily get another. :)

Angelica Munoz

Very impressed!

Very impressed! Had it out in some horrible windy rain here and it stayed nicely in shape, unlike the little umbrellas I've relied on before. The cover is generous enough that I wasn't getting soaked round the edges. It isn't really one of those tiny pocket jobs though. Folded up it takes noticeably more space, so bear that in mind if your bag is small. For me the sturdier feel makes that worthwhile and it looks smart too. Only thing I'd change is the grip. My hand fits in the loop, but there isn't a great deal of spare room and I'd prefer something a touch longer. Smaller hands probably wouldn't notice it. Not a big issue, just something I noticed while holding it for a while. Otherwise I've been delighted with it.

Ive used mine for about a year now.

Ive used mine for about a year now. Its a straightforward folding umbrella, the sort you keep ready for everyday use. Dont try leaning on it, obviously it wasnt made for that. Press the button and it opens smoothly, but with a definite snap. It isnt very windy where I live, though a few stronger breezes havent given it any bother.

Mackenzie Bell

Treated myself to this umbrella and I'm glad I did.

Treated myself to this umbrella and I'm glad I did.I like how it feels and how neatly it folds, certainly worth getting one for yourself. My previous one got left on public transport and I never saw it again,so this one is staying close. Would also be a nice gift for someone you like.

Sheri Snyder

Overall it suits us and I'm pleased we have it.

We wanted an umbrella to keep in the seasonal camper and this has been a useful choice. It stores away without needing a long space, and feels quite sturdy once you have it open. The fabric seems substantial enough for the sort of rain we would use it in. The button is handy, it gets the canopy up quickly and shuts it again without much fuss. Putting it fully away is where I have a small reservation. You have to press the telescoping stem back in yourself, and that takes a firmer push than I would really like. My wife finds that part a little awkward too. Nothing wrong with it, just something to be aware of if your hands aren't strong. Overall it suits us and I'm pleased we have it.
