I'd still consider another one for myself.

Had to return it as the person I chose it for prefers something smaller. That doesn't take away from how pretty the umbrella was, or how nicely it seemed made. I'd still consider another one for myself. It looked like it would be useful for a bit of shade on sunny summer days as well as for rain.

This has turned out to be a good choice.

Nearly a year of keeping this in the car and it is still doing its job without any fuss. It has been out in plenty of rain, although I haven't deliberately tested it in anything extreme. The button mechanism hasn't stuck or needed fiddling with. It opens promptly and closes the canopy when asked, then I push the shaft back down by hand. Nothing about that has been particularly difficult. Folded up, it is a bit longer than I'd want for a small handbag, but beside the front seat it is a convenient size. Two people can squeeze underneath if it's only drizzling. In proper rain I would consider it a one person umbrella, and even then don't expect dry trousers all the way down. It's a compact, not one of those enormous golf umbrellas. There has to be some compromise between carrying something manageable and covering absolutely everything. I've stayed dry under the fabric even when the rain was being blown about, and it doesn't take ages to dry afterwards. There is a larger umbrella in the boot as well, but I hardly bother reaching for that now. Before this I seemed to be replacing little umbrellas constantly, probably five or six over a few years. They generally felt flimsy from the start and didn't improve with use. Having used a smaller one that actually lasted, I started paying more attention when choosing another rather than just grabbing whatever was handy. This has turned out to be a good choice. I don't treat it roughly, but neither do I think an everyday umbrella should need special handling every time it rains. Reading some of the unhappy experiences people have makes me wonder how differently we all use these things. All I can say is that mine has had regular use, still works properly, and has outlasted most of the compact umbrellas I've owned--

I ordered this in green and after using it for a while I still think it was a good buy. The part I don't care for is the handle, the closed loop feels a little bulky to me and it doesn't sit in my bag quite how I would like, so packing it alongside other things takes some arranging. Good part is that once it is out, the button is quick and the rain coverage has been fine. Nothing that stops me using it, just a small practical annoyance, and overall I would still give it a four star rating.

The plain dark underside looks neat as well.

My husband is 6 feet tall and wanted an umbrella that didn't leave his shoulders hanging out. This gives him decent cover on his walks across campus without being a long umbrella to carry all day. He likes the handle and the button action, and says it feels well put together. I'm only 5'2" and find it a little weighty in my bag, but he doesn't mind it at all. The plain dark underside looks neat as well. He has been pleased using it in the rain, which is what matters to us.

Ordered this for my husband while we were away in FL..

Ordered this for my husband while we were away in FL.. He likes some shade when watching sports, especially since his skin cancer, and this is much handier than carrying a big golf umbrella... We (family) weren't sure he'd go for pink but he liked it. :) :) Feels nicely made and opens easily. A useful gift, and he was glad to have it.

What a solid little umbrella this is!

What a solid little umbrella this is! When the rain starts blowing sideways I don't feel like I'm about to take off down the street. It feels SO much more substantial than the flimsy umbrellas I've had before, and it looks lovely too!! Money well spent as far as I'm concerned!!

Zoe Greene

She was so proud of staying dry.

I've two granddaughters, one likes everything loud and one is quieter. The younger needed something for going to school and picked the green umbrella. Rain came over the weekend and she was outside trying it before we had even said anything. She was so proud of staying dry. It is put away with her school things now, not left out to play with. Nice to find something she actually wants to carry.

Rita Flowers

It has handled the rain and breezy weather I've used it in.

The build on this umbrella is good, everything feels properly put together. My last one was bent after I shut it in the car door, so it was time for a replacement. This has the solid feel I wanted without being a huge umbrella to carry around. It has handled the rain and breezy weather I've used it in.

Garrett Shepherd

Just need some rain now!

There hasn't been much rain these last couple of weeks, so we've hardly tried it outside. My little boy is delighted though. Wants to take it everywhere and press the button all by himself. I still have to help him shorten it again afterwards, but he likes doing his part. It feels decent so far and not like its going to give up straight away. Just need some rain now!

Bianca Mcneil

Price was fair, happy overall.

Price was fair, happy overall. Not a heavy thing to carry, though there's more weight than I'd normally expect in a compact umbrella. The ribs give it a solid feel when open. Once folded, the fabric doesn't look especially tidy, but that doesn't affect using it. Decent size overhead and a reassuring feel in the hand. I'd recommend it.

Jerry Bailey

The green is so pretty!

The green is so pretty! it's just the sort of colour I hoped it would be. Too early for me to say how long it'll last, though everything seems fine up to now. Getting it into the sleeve takes a bit of arranging, not a real problem if you take your time. I enjoy taking it along on my walks, makes me smile :)

Kristi Stone

I had been looking forward to this and was pleased when I tried it.

I had been looking forward to this and was pleased when I tried it. My only reservation is the loop handle, which feels a little small for my hand. Took some adjusting to keep my thumb away from the button while holding it comfortably. It works well otherwise, and I would still recommend it, just with that small point in mind.

My small gripe is what happens when a breeze gets underneath.

As someone working in the city, I park a few minutes away and walk the rest of the way to the office. I already have a big golf umbrella, but it's not something I want to haul around on the off chance of a shower. This is a much more sensible size to keep with me! Folded up, it goes into my work bag without dominating it. Open it and there's a proper canopy, not the tiny cap I half expected from a folding umbrella. I have plenty of coverage on that short walk, though I would consider it mainly for one person rather than a replacement for a huge shared umbrella. My small gripe is what happens when a breeze gets underneath. It catches enough air that I have to adjust how I'm holding it. The frame seems solid, but that doesn't mean you can carry it without paying attention to the wind. Overall it's been a very useful purchase and I'd choose it again!

Francisco Berg

Looks much pricier than it was, friends have asked about it too.

Couldn't fit it in the bag I was packing for london, which was a shame since it was my little pre-trip treat. Since coming back to the states I've used it plenty and its the one I reach for first. Looks much pricier than it was, friends have asked about it too. Still think I did pretty well with this buy!

Natalie French

A useful folded size for keeping around in case the weather changes.

A useful folded size for keeping around in case the weather changes. It can stay in my bag until I need it, rather than being something I have to remember to take separately. I wouldn't expect storm shelter from it, but for an unexpected shower it gives me perfectly decent cover.

Steven Weaver

It has a sturdy feel without seeming particularly heavy.

Mine arrived today and I've only tried it indoors, not out in the weather yet. Gave it a check and everything seems in order, with no little tears or anything loose. The Cream White is what I expected. It has a sturdy feel without seeming particularly heavy. Not quite as light as my tiny bag umbrella, but there's a lot more coverage when opened!Update: It's now been through a few rainstorms in South Florida and is doing well. Still don't find the weight a problem. The one thing I'd alter is the handle length. There's only just room for my hand on it. A little extra length there would suit an umbrella of this size better.

Robyn Miles

The frame feels nicely put together.

One outing with it so far, so I can't speak for years of wear, but I'm happy with it. It fits in my golf bag and the push-button opening is useful. The frame feels nicely put together. Hopefully that first impression holds up, because it seems a sensible choice.

Jasmin Sims

Simple button and a nice solid feel

Haven't had a chance to take it out yet. I wasn't sure about the pink from the picture - IT IS PINK, really lovely :) I wanted something nice for going round the golf course and this certainly looks the part. looks good opened up too and there is lots of room under it. Simple button and a nice solid feel

Darren Durham

A good purchase all round, thank you.

Checking here after seeing an umbrella in a catalogue turned out to be worthwhile. We paid less than we'd expected and were happy when we saw how nicely it was put together. A good purchase all round, thank you. I'll be doing the same comparison with the next thing I spot in a shop!

Mikayla Hooper

A really solid umbrella.

A really solid umbrella. We tried another compact one around the same time and this is the one we keep reaching for.Build quality seems very good. The button release feels secure and is simple to use. Fabric feels substantial and all the ribs seem strong. Nothing overly fussy about the design, which suits us.Used it on some windy midwest days and so far it hasn't blown inside out. Not saying it couldn't happen, just that it has handled what we've had. Very happy with it and would buy another.

Kurt Faulkner

I've made this my just-in-case umbrella for my bag.

I've made this my just-in-case umbrella for my bag. In San Francisco, 'just in case' turns into quite often, so it earns its space. Folded up it's convenient, and when rain catches me out it has kept me dry. There are some compromises with a compact one though. It's not the roomy cover I'd want if I was spending the entire day outside in a downpour, and I wouldn't go looking for the windiest street to test it. For regular showers it has been great. I still keep a larger umbrella for really miserable weather, but for not being caught with nothing this is exactly what I wanted.

Angela Rubio

A really useful unbrella.

A really useful unbrella. The plain canopy is nice, but keeping the rain off is what matters most. I can hold it at a comfortable height and still see ahead without getting my head wet. Covers my shoulders well too, so there is less rain getting onto me. Would recommend.

Ashley Greer

A press on the handle opens it cleanly.

We seem to be quite good at losing dark umbrellas, so beige seemed worth a try for a change. Nothing fancy needed, just something we could identify and actually use. Closed up, this is a tidy bundle, about 40cm long, rather than one of those tiny things you can forget in a coat pocket. The oval loop is part of the handle, not a dangling cord, and feels secure in the hand. The fabric needs a little arranging for a neat wrap. Not difficult; worth doing before trying to get it into the sleeve. One thing we always look at is how the canopy meets the ribs. There are plenty of ribs here, and the covering seems properly attached rather than looking as though it has just been tacked on. That matters more to us than fancy looks. A press on the handle opens it cleanly. Another press gathers the canopy, after which the telescoping section needs compressing by hand. That's the normal closing routine, not something the button is meant to do for you. Nothing about using it has felt sharp or likely to catch a finger. For carrying, we give the folds a quick tidy so the ends aren't sticking out. In theory it will live in a shopping bag; in practice there's a convenient space in the car. The supplied sleeve fits over the folded umbrella, though we're the sort who tend to mislay sleeves before umbrellas. (My wife thinks the cat could account for some of these disappearances. He has declined to comment)

Judy Rocha

She was delighted with it.

My wife wanted proper coverage instead of another tiny travel umbrella, so this was her gift. She was delighted with it. Folds away for carrying but opens to a useful size, and looks smart as well. For what it cost, I think it would be difficult to do much better for something that's practical and nice to look at.

Wendy Moran

I've had it over a year now and it's been a good umbrella.

I've had it over a year now and it's been a good umbrella. I'm a big guy, so little ones usually leave my shoulders catching drips. This gives me room without having to hunch up underneath it. It has felt steady on the breezy days I've needed it too. I'd have no hesitation suggesting it to someone looking for decent coverage.

Nathan Irwin

The build feels better thought out than most umbrellas I've handled.

The build feels better thought out than most umbrellas I've handled. It gives me some hope that this one will be a lasting purchase rather than another umbrella I end up replacing.Obviously I can't judge years of use yet, but the first impression is excellent. Also worth mentioning: a carry sleeve is included, which is handy for putting it away neatly. Glad I didn't have to look for a separate cover.

Chelsea Benjamin

A really smart little umbrella!

A really smart little umbrella! It's stood up well to regular use. My six year old manages the canopy button without a struggle, and was doing that at five too. I help reset the shaft afterwards. The loop is a nice touch-he's quite proud of his gray umbrella on the walk to school!

Molly Charles

The green is lovely and she was so pleased when she saw it.

We got this today and my daughter has hardly put it down. She's three and a half and has been asking for an umbrella of her own for about a year. I can't comment on how long it will last yet, but it feels like a proper umbrella rather than a toy. That matters to me. The green is lovely and she was so pleased when she saw it. At her age I stay beside her and handle opening it and packing it away, although she is very interested in the button! She enjoys holding the oval loop with me and standing underneath. It gives her a good amount of cover, without needing to hold it right against her face. Since this isn't see through, I remind her to keep it high enough to see ahead instead of hiding under it. When we're done, it folds down so I'm not left carrying a full length umbrella around. Practical for me, exciting for her. We haven't had it long enough to say much more, but so far it has made a little girl very happy.

Courtney Wilkins

Somebody evidently needed it more than I did.

For eight years my old umbrella went everywhere with me, including travelling abroad, only to disappear from an umbrella stand on a rainy day! Somebody evidently needed it more than I did. A rather sad end after all that use, and I won't be trusting those stands with another favourite. It is easy to put something down and assume it will still be there when you come back. The material on this replacement feels good, the button opens it conveniently, and the canopy is a comfortable size. In ordinary rain and a little wind it has been quite reassuring to carry. The enclosed oval handle gives me something secure to hold, and there is a sleeve to put it in afterwards. My previous umbrella survived years without giving me much to complain about, so naturally that is what I am hoping for again. Eight years would be a very respectable innings!Postscript. Having now used this one while travelling through some wet weather, I am a little less enthusiastic about packing it away. Pressing the button brings the canopy in, but you then have to push the telescoping shaft down yourself. That is how it is meant to work, not something wrong with it, but the push takes more effort than I particularly like. Folded up, it also takes a fair share of the space in my bag. I still appreciate the fabric and the shelter it provides. It is the carrying and putting away that make this more of a compromise than I had hoped!

My one small niggle is getting used to the oval loop handle.

These are the umbrellas I keep coming back to. I've had close to ten by now and rarely bother looking for something different. The canopy gives me useful coverage without having to carry a long umbrella everywhere. The frame feels sturdy and has behaved well in wind as long as I don't hold it out at a silly angle. Being able to close the canopy with a button is GREAT when I'm getting into a cab or through a doorway. You still have to compress the telescoping stem afterwards to reset it, but that is easy enough once you know. I've not had one break on me. Mostly I manage to leave them somewhere before I find out how long they'll last! I can only go by everyday use, and on that front I have no complaints. My one small niggle is getting used to the oval loop handle. Sometimes I put my fingers through it and end up holding it awkwardly, rather than just taking a normal grip. It is a little thing and changing my hold sorts it out. Not enough to stop me buying the same umbrella again.

Rose Fuentes

Useful umbrella, looks nice too.

Useful umbrella, looks nice too. Most important is the cover you get underneath it. I hold it high enough to see ahead and there is still room round my shoulders, so I'm not just keeping the top of my head dry. A good size when it is opened out. I would recommend.

Tamara Silva

Really handy when the northeastern rain starts coming at an angle!

Really handy when the northeastern rain starts coming at an angle! lol. Good value & pretty much what I was hoping for. There were a few folding creases at first, but once it was opened up they weren't anything to worry about. :) No odd smell either. Happy to keep using this one.

Renee Hill

beige outside and black underneath, looks nice.

Better quality than i thought, especially the little details on the ribs and handle. it still has a slight new smell, so i'm letting it air. beige outside and black underneath, looks nice. it gives a proper patch of shade, no seeing through it! for the money i like it

Brooke Haley

There are two small things I would change.

So far the construction looks decent, although I haven't used it in enough wind to make any claim about that side of things. The opening button is easy to find and I can get it up with one hand. Once open it covers me comfortably without feeling like I'm carrying a huge golf umbrella. There are two small things I would change. The oval handle could be a little longer for my hand; it works, but I find myself wishing for more room. Also, getting the folded fabric tidy enough for the sleeve takes a bit of patience. I have to smooth it around rather than just bunch it together, particularly when it's wet. The button closes the canopy, then I push the telescoping section down before wrapping it all up. None of that is a major problem, just less convenient than the opening part of using it. Overall it's been a useful umbrella and seems fair value for what I paid.

Max Mann

It is compact, just not the miniature sort I'd imagined.

I was looking for an umbrella I wouldn't leave behind, and the loop handle was what made this one stand out to me.I had pictured something really tiny from the description, so the folded size was a little more than I expected. It is compact, just not the miniature sort I'd imagined. That hasn't stopped me using it though. If the morning looks wet I pick this up rather than relying on my coat. It gives good cover and feels steady in ordinary wind and rain, so overall I'm pleased with it.

Latasha Owens

Keeps the rain off, which is what I wanted.

Nothing fancy to report. Keeps the rain off, which is what I wanted. My wife can get it into her larger purse, though I wouldn't describe it as tiny. I've only used it in normal weather, not anything extreme, and it's been perfectly fine. If I leave it behind somewhere, as I usually do, I'd consider another of these.

Stefanie Esparza

I've had quite a few nice comments about it too.

Still a favourite after about three years of use. The button action feels positive and the canopy opens and folds without any fuss. For something that packs away, it gives a generous amount of cover, and the fabric has kept the rain off properly. The plain canopy looks elegant rather than fussy. I've had quite a few nice comments about it too. Easy to recommend if you want an umbrella that looks good and gets used!

Dominic Harris

The oval handle is also pleasant to grip.

What caught my attention was the number of ribs when I opened it. There are thirty, and the whole canopy seems better supported than the thin framed umbrellas I'm used to. The oval handle is also pleasant to grip. It gives a reassuring impression, though I haven't had it long and am not about to deliberately bend things around to test how tough it is.

Darlene Ford

My daughter gave me this umbrella.

I am quite particular about things and not an easy person to buy presents for. My daughter gave me this umbrella. An EXCELLENT choice! Of course it means a bit extra to me because she chose it. For a while I only needed it occasionally, then came a business visit to Europe lasting nearly a fortnight. Rain practically every day, and that umbrella went wherever I went. The carrying sleeve was handy for keeping it tidy when put away. Once dry, I could pop it into my large purse and have both hands available, rather than always having something dangling from my wrist. It didn't take over the whole bag either; I still had room for the other things I seem to need! Carrying it wasn't a burden, yet opened up it gave a surprisingly generous amount of shelter. Several colleagues squeezed alongside me at different times and were quite appreciative. Not room for a whole group, obviously, but enough to help someone caught without their own. After a few days it was simply part of what I took out each morning, without much thought. My one horrible moment was remembering I had left my 'special' umbrella beside the electric baseboard heater AFTER switching the heat on :( Thankfully I spotted it promptly and moved it away, with no damage done. It has a safer place now. I would certainly choose this one again, and would be happy to have another on hand. Have even been thinking that a few of those colleagues could use one of their own.....

Shaun Mcbride

It isn't the lightest folding umbrella I've owned.

A year of using this around New York and I still reach for it first. Winter, spring, those little tunnels of wind between the buildings near the river... it has had plenty of outings. And yes, I still have to make myself visible to drivers at crossings. Apparently a pedestrian carrying an umbrella remains quite a difficult thing to spot. It isn't the lightest folding umbrella I've owned. That was noticeable when I first put it in my bag, but the sturdier feel has been worth the tradeoff. The closed loop handle is solid in my hand, and the whole thing packs down enough that I don't end up leaving it at home. What has impressed me is how the frame gives a little in gusts instead of feeling completely rigid. I'm not taking it out to test the limits of the weather. I just want to walk the usual streets without worrying about my umbrella every few steps. This has made that a much less annoying business. The button is useful when I'm getting out of the rain, too. After a year it still looks ready for more. Money well spent, as far as I'm concerned.

Now I just need some rain to try it out.

Now I just need some rain to try it out. The umbrella seems properly put together, and I really like the unusual oval handle. It looks cute without being fussy, which is my sort of thing. There is a bit of a new-material smell when I open it, but I'm expecting that to fade with airing and it doesn't spoil it for me.

Joyce Barron

Its a nice looking umbrella and they both like the design.

One umbrella wasn't enough once the kids saw it, so we ended up getting a second to avoid arguments. Its a nice looking umbrella and they both like the design. The canopy covers them well. They do have to keep it above their faces to see where they're going. They like the button but I handle the opening and packing away.Cons - a STRONG new-material smell when we first unpacked them. I left them open to air for several days and that helped a lot. They're also heavier than a little preschool umbrella, especially for the 2 year old. Our 5 year old manages better. Overall they seem nicely made, just something I'd supervise rather than hand over and expect the kids to handle completely.

Sean Walsh

The supports are the most encouraging part of this folding umbrella.

The supports are the most encouraging part of this folding umbrella. There are 30 ribs under the canopy, and they feel flexible without giving the impression of being flimsy. I would expect that little bit of give to be preferable to something rigid that bends permanently. Previous umbrellas have left rust marks on the fabric around their metal supports, so durability is something I pay attention to, though long-term resistance to corrosion remains to be seen here. Pressing the button produces a quick, positive opening action. The closed oval handle is a little different from a conventional straight grip, but is straightforward enough to hold. Another press brings the canopy down, after which the telescoping section needs to be compressed manually. The shaft feels substantial enough during that operation. At about 105cm across when open, the canopy provides reasonable coverage for one person. My shoulders stay covered in ordinary rain, although it isn't an enormous umbrella and rain coming in sideways will still find you. The flexible framework seems a sensible feature for occasional gusts, rather than something I would regard as permission to use it in any weather. The compromise is its folded size. Roughly 40cm is quite a long object to accommodate in a small bag, even though the weight doesn't seem excessive. It fits more naturally in a tote than a handbag. That makes it less convenient than the word compact might suggest, and reduces some of the advantage over carrying a full-length umbrella.

Charlene Burnett

First impressions are good and it feels fairly sturdy.

Still waiting to use this outside, I ordered it for my wedding just in case we get rain. First impressions are good and it feels fairly sturdy. The fabric doesn't feel quite as substantial as an umbrella I already own, which is the main thing stopping me giving it full marks. It also looks a little plainer in person than I had pictured, though that's probably just my expectations. Either way I can see myself carrying it day to day after the wedding. Tried the automatic opening indoors and the action was really smooth, so that's a definite plus!

Haley Adams

It coped well with the rain.

At six feet tall I get decent coverage from it, and the frame feels solid enough. No trouble on breezy days so far.update: had it with me in Korea during the rainy season and was glad of it more than once. It coped well with the rain. Even folded, though, it felt a bit much to be carrying round all day.

Buying presents for our grandson is never straightforward.

Buying presents for our grandson is never straightforward. His mom mentioned that he'd taken a liking to this umbrella, which made us laugh a bit. He's a lovely kid, just has his own "different" taste in things. We thought, well, why not try it. What a success!! He actually keeps it in the supplied sleeve and brings it along with him. Not often we manage to choose something a teenager is that excited about!

Daryl Hooper

Really pleased with how sturdy they seem and the price was good too.

These umbrellas have done really well in the rain. The children have been outside playing with them and they've coped with the breezy weather without any fuss. Really pleased with how sturdy they seem and the price was good too. Would recommend them to anyone wanting a useful everyday umbrella.

Andrea Brandt

I'd definitely recommend the blue!

My wife uses this often because we live somewhere with very strong sun. She calls it her "shade to go". The relief is quite noticeable when I stand under it instead of out in the sun. I'd definitely recommend the blue! She likes that color and wasn't interested in choosing another one. She knows what she likes, and this is the umbrella she keeps reaching for when she goes outside.

Bonnie Blake

Happy with how it's handled that so far.

Well. It works. A gust caught it on its first outing and flipped the canopy, but I straightened it and carried on with no trouble. I need decent coverage at work without lugging a long umbrella everywhere. This folds down small enough to bring along without thinking about it. Happy with how it's handled that so far.

Theodore Ellison

Coverage is for me rather than a crowd, which is fine.

Carried this in my bag in Rome and was glad of it when a downpour came out of nowhere. Coverage is for me rather than a crowd, which is fine. Not small enough to vanish into an inside pocket, but still easy enough to bring along without thinking about it. Gonna keep another around as a spare. I've gone through plenty of umbrellas and this seems one of the more practical ones for actually carrying when the weather is uncertain.
