I'm very fair skinned, and allergic to an ingredient that seems to be finding its way into more and more sun creams. Even some of the gentle formulations I used to rely on now set my skin off. So there's another label to check, another thing I can't use. I've also become more cautious about ingredients generally, although trying to untangle all the information out there is a headache in itself! I want to look after my skin, not spend the summer feeling greasy, hot and covered in an itchy rash.
Having this umbrella has been such a relief. Sturdy, and useful for showers as well as sunshine. The shade moves with me, which is exactly what I wanted. There's a decent amount of room underneath, and I feel much more comfortable there than standing in direct sun. Honestly, such a simple thing but it made the summer easier for me.
Drawbacks? It does occupy a fair bit of space when it's open. Folded down it's manageable, but it's still another thing to carry, not something I can forget in a pocket. The sleeve is handy, though I wish there were a way to sling it over my shoulder once I've put it away.
I can see why someone else might not want to bother carrying an umbrella on a sunny day. For me, having my own patch of shade without putting another product on my skin is worth that little inconvenience. I'm glad I bought it.

I like carrying an umbrella on longer trails, tho I know some hikers prefer not to bother. I can't stand gear that looks like a walking advertisement, so the understated look suits me well. Worth remembering for anyone counting grams that this is around 390g, not a featherweight pocket umbrella. The packed length is about 40cm too, which is useful to know before deciding where it will go in your pack

The loop handle is the part I love most !!
Light enough for me to carry without thinking about it ! Even a youngster could manage it ! One press and up it goes ! Nicely put together, not flimsy feeling ! Waiting for a wet day now ! Would buy a few for friends ! Good holiday present for those people you never know what to choose for ! The loop handle is the part I love most !! Brilliant !! Just right !! Many thanks !! Already glad I chose this one !!
Zachary Parks
I usually leave it off.
My spouse gave me this after I moved from Texas to Oregon, and it has been one of the most useful presents I've received. Getting to the office here involves a lot more wet mornings than I was used to. It fits in my backpack without much fuss, and a quick shake gets most of the water off before I go inside. What I appreciate most is being able to press a button and have it open, rather than standing there getting soaked while wrestling with an umbrella. The sleeve is the part I don't bother with much. Nothing wrong with having one, but getting the folds tidy enough to slide it in feels like extra work when I need it again the next morning. I usually leave it off. So far it has stayed the right way round when the wind picks up, and everything feels reassuringly solid. For something I carry so often now, it has been a very welcome gift and I'd happily recommend it.
Anthony Church
Solid construction.
Solid construction. The closely spaced ribs keep the fabric nicely supported, so rain rolls off without much fuss. For the cover it gives, it doesn't feel cumbersome to carry. There's none of that dragging around a huge wet shelter feeling. Ended up getting a second for a friend.
Olivia Obrien
The black is a good deep shade.
it looks just as nice in person and I've had a few compliments already. The black is a good deep shade. the fabric has a neat appearance and it doesn't look fussy at all. The button needs a definite press, but works well once you do it. Nice that there's a sleeve for keeping it in, too.
Jose Pacheco
Worth a look if you like a different handle.
I'd prefer a softer feel on the handle, although the oval loop is comfortable enough. The frame feels solid, the black looks smart, and the whole thing gives a good impression of quality. There's a sleeve with it, which I use when it's dry and going into my bag. The loop is what makes it look a bit different from the usual umbrella. I work at a university and was second guessing whether I needed anything unusual just for walkin between buildings. Turns out it's perfectly practical. Worth a look if you like a different handle.
Allison Montes
it makes an ordinary errand feel a little more pleasant.
this quiet departure from the usual dark umbrella has a charm all its own, a little reminder that useful things can also be beautiful. the beige is softer and lovelier in person than the picture suggests. imagine stepping into a wet grey day with a small piece of calm overhead. it makes an ordinary errand feel a little more pleasant. the practical part of you gets shelter, and the part that loves pretty things gets its moment too.
Lee Gomez
Very happy with what I paid for it.
My son's old umbrella broke, so I replaced it with this. Decent finish, fairly light and the handle is comfortable. My fourth grader can work the button, though pushing the stem back in once the canopy shuts is quite firm. Younger children might need some help with that part. Very happy with what I paid for it.
Jill Brandt
A sensible purchase, and hopefully one I will remember to bring home!
What I wanted was something practical - but still attractive - and this has worked out well. The canopy gives me good coverage without needing a huge umbrella to carry around. I appreciate the solid feel of the loop handle, and the pink makes it easy to pick out among my things. There isn't a lot of fuss to opening it, which matters when you are trying to get out into the rain. Once put away in its sleeve it makes a tidy bundle. A sensible purchase, and hopefully one I will remember to bring home!

Not something that should put you off buying it.
Excellent umbrella, though a little more room on the handle would suit my hand better. That's the one thing stopping five stars for me.Not something that should put you off buying it. It slips into my messenger bag when i'm heading to work, and it's kept me dry in the rain we've had, even with a bit of a breeze.
Ann Mitchell
Roughly 105cm across is still enough coverage for what he needs.
My son is moving somewhere rainy and often breezy, so this looked a sensible choice. It seems solidly put together, and a friend who has one spoke well of it. He would prefer a wider umbrella, but the compact fold should make it easier to pack. Roughly 105cm across is still enough coverage for what he needs.
Kirsten Dawson
I am so glad I kept this umbrella!
I am so glad I kept this umbrella! I bought it with the wrong idea about how it worked, and when I explained my concern I was treated kindly instead of being made to feel silly. I had been thinking about exchanging it.(But then I used it and decided this one was staying with me! It's held up well in the windy San Francisco weather, and goodness knows we get plenty of that here! ) What really made me happy was the patience with my questions, along with having an umbrella that feels this sturdy. I need something handy that I can actually depend on, not just something nice to look at. Between the way I was treated and how useful it's been, I'm really happy with this purchase. Thank you again! :)

My first Haven umbrella has been a really good choice.
My first Haven umbrella has been a really good choice. It feels sturdy and the fabric has a nice substantial feel, so I hope it lasts. A press of the button opens it smoothly, and another press brings the canopy in. You still have to shorten the pole yourself, which takes a firm push and is the one thing I notice when rushing indoors in the rain. Folded it is about 40cm long, and getting the fabric arranged neatly takes a little patience because there is quite a bit of it. For one person the coverage is good. I like the overall design and would happily recommend it for the quality!
Wesley Cobb
The umbrella itself works well and stores conveniently.
I paid most attention to the open size because I wanted a larger umbrella, not just something that folds up neatly. At roughly 105 cm across, this is quite usable for one person, but it isn't the generous canopy I had in mind. I wish umbrella descriptions always made it clear whether a size means straight across or measured over the curved top. Those are different measurements, and using the bigger sounding one is a pretty unhelpful way to compare umbrellas. The umbrella itself works well and stores conveniently. Nothing wrong with it for everyday use. I just wanted more room.
Beth Church
I think I will get good use from it.
Around 390g and about 40cm folded, so it is not an ultralight model.
The sleeve adds a little bulk in the bag.
Still, I am satisfied with how well it is made for the price.
It feels more substantial than the very light umbrella I used before.
I think I will get good use from it.
Warren Atkins
Good umbrella, feels robust, blue fits in with most things I wear.
Good umbrella, feels robust, blue fits in with most things I wear. Only little quibble is the opening button needs a firm press. It's easy enough once you know, and not something that bothers me much. Can't see what spending extra on an umbrella would gain me.
Kristopher Dickerson
I like having an umbrella I can manage on a crowded sidewalk.
I like having an umbrella I can manage on a crowded sidewalk. There's enough coverage for me without a huge canopy to steer around everyone. You still have to watch the edges when people are passing close, of course, but I find this one easy enough to keep over my own space. It keeps my head and shoulders dry, which is mostly what I'm after.
Bethany Whitehead
The button makes opening it easy and it feels nicely made.
I had a hard time finding an umbrella I wanted to carry to outdoor events! Living in Florida means a shower can turn up when nobody was expecting one. Then all the umbrellas come out and you're trying not to bump the people around you. I still watch where the edges are, but this gives me good cover without being a huge thing to carry between showers. The blue canopy keeps my head and shoulders dry, which is what matters most! The button makes opening it easy and it feels nicely made. Hopefully I'll be taking this along for a lot of rainy days to come!
Eduardo Sutton
If he does, I'd be happy enough to get another for myself.
There is a little more weight to this than I usually want in a bag, but it feels very solid. It folds down neatly and opens to a useful size. The pink makes a nice change from my usual dark umbrellas, too. We've hardly had any rain over the winter, so I haven't put it through that many outings yet. My boyfriend is stationed in Cuba, where he gets a lot more rain, and I can imagine him taking this home after a visit. If he does, I'd be happy enough to get another for myself.
Sharon Mendoza
The quality gives me confidence!
I've used a fair number of umbrellas over the years and appreciate one that doesn't make a simple job complicated. This one opens neatly, covers me well and folds up for carrying. The quality gives me confidence! When I find something dependable I tend to stick with it, and I'd happily choose this again. Happy customer!
Sara Cuevas
It's straightforward to use and gives me decent coverage in the rain.
The blue is exactly the shade I was hoping for and is what caught my eye in the pictures. It has a much nicer look than some umbrellas I've had. The fabric is a little thinner feeling than I expected, though, and I wouldn't be careless with it around doors or sharp edges. Nothing has gone wrong with it, I just tend to fold it neatly before putting it away. It's straightforward to use and gives me decent coverage in the rain. For the price I'm pleased with it overall, especially the colour, even if the material isn't as substantial as I imagined.
David Cochran
I've taken it out a few times and it keeps me dry.
I've taken it out a few times and it keeps me dry. The open size is good, and the button action seems solid enough. Looking more closely at the canopy edges, though, the finishing feels a bit lightweight for what I paid. Nothing has come loose, I'm just not especially confident about that part over time. The box has already gone and I can't see myself making the effort to return an umbrella that works. I'll keep using it, but the overall finish leaves me less impressed than I hoped.
Clinton Rollins
Now I'm tempted to get a second one for myself!!
My husband spends a lot of summer outdoors and burns so easily, so I got him this for some shade. He's delighted! The canopy makes being in the sunshine more comfortable, and he says the loop handle is nice to keep hold of. Now I'm tempted to get a second one for myself!!
Janice Arellano
Good construction and, for the price, I think it's decent value.
Good construction and, for the price, I think it's decent value. My niggles are mostly about carrying it. As a woman with quite enough in my purse already, I do notice this weighs a bit more than the one I replaced, not horribly heavy, just noticeable. Folded up it is a little chunky too. You know when there's no rain and you carry the closed umbrella in your hand for a short walk...that is when the thickness bothers me a little. I'd have liked something slimmer to wrap my hand around. None of this makes it a bad umbrella, and I'm keeping it, but it's worth considering if you want a really dainty thing to carry.
Isabel Davies
Rainy days feel a bit less miserable with this umbrella.
Rainy days feel a bit less miserable with this umbrella. I've even had people comment on how nice it looks - always a pleasant surprise for something so practical. It has coped well with the gusts I've met without folding backwards. The size works nicely too - enough room to keep me and my bag out of the rain.
Greg Camacho
" Turns out they're very decent.
I was doubtful when I ordered these, thinking "Can they really be much good?" Turns out they're very decent. The pink is lovely, they aren't heavy to carry and the canopy springs out properly every time. They've already had a wet, blustery outing and coped nicely. A useful size for keeping me covered without carrying a great big umbrella. Glad I took the chance.
Molly Warren
Love it, absolutely delighted!
Took it out just in time for a very wet, windy day and it kept me nicely covered. Several umbrellas around me were flipping over, while mine kept its shape. Being able to open it and collapse the canopy with the button is a real convenience too. Love it, absolutely delighted! I'd choose this one again.
Martha Henson
Button opening is useful when only one hand is free.
The Haven umbrella in beige is a practical product for keeping dry on ordinary wet days. I am not using it for golf, just for getting around, and that is where the folding design makes sense. There are 30 flexible ribs supporting the canopy, so the frame has some give instead of feeling completely rigid. Button opening is useful when only one hand is free. The same button closes the canopy, although the telescoping stem still has to be pressed back in by hand. Coverage is suitable for an adult with a bag rather than expecting a huge golfing umbrella.
Approximate specifications are:- 105cm across when open- 40cm folded length- 390g in weight.
For my everyday purposes it has been a good choice, and I would be comfortable recommending it on that basis.Thank you for taking the time to read these comments.

This one looks very sweet with her, no fussy pictures on it.
Finding a plain black umbrella for my little grand daughter was harder than I expected. This one looks very sweet with her, no fussy pictures on it. It's a proper size umbrella rather than a toddler one, so I do the carrying when it's open. She is delighted with it and I think it will be useful for years.
Valerie Brooks
For the price I wasn't expecting anything fancy, just an umbrella…
For the price I wasn't expecting anything fancy, just an umbrella I could rely on. The fabric isn't particularly thick, but it has kept the rain off on the wet days we've had lately. I'd recommend it to anyone after a decent everyday umbrella without spending a fortune.
Karen Duarte
Well worth the price to me.
It came in around a week, even with an overseas delivery. Have found it very useful on the golf coarse. It's handy to carry in the bag and gives me a decent patch of shade when I'm out on a hot summer day. Used it last week and was glad to have it with me. The frame feels solid without being a nuisance to carry around. A nice bold green too. Nothing complicated, just an umbrella I'm happy to take along. Well worth the price to me.
Eileen Huffman
The umbrella does what I need it to.
The umbrella does what I need it to. One press brings it up and another gathers the canopy, which is handy when I'm getting into the car. You still push the stem in yourself afterwards. In a proper downpour there can be spray coming in around the sides, though. Fine for a quick walk, just don't expect your legs to stay dry in heavy rain.
Fred Snyder
We've had alot of rain in Philly this year, not so much wind.
We've had alot of rain in Philly this year, not so much wind. Mine has kept me covered fine. ITs a decent size open and folds down, though it takes up more bag space than I expected. Feels fairly strong but my last umbrella didn't last, so I'm not making predictions. Overall good for the wet weather. Cant really say how it would handle a proper storm.
Joann Richard
This shade doesn't really go with it.
Pretty umbrella, although the beige isn't quite the shade I thought I was getting. In the picture it looked like a very pale neutral beige. Mine looks warmer, more sandy. Hard to explain? Well, it is still beige, just not the beige I'd planned around. The underside is black, so there is also quite a contrast when it's open. None of that stops it being a useful umbrella. I had hoped to carry it with a beige dress for a wedding, and the cooler shade I thought I saw online would have gone nicely. This shade doesn't really go with it. I'm keeping it because I like the umbrella itself, but I haven't decided what outfit it'll look right with.
Walter Reyes
There is plenty of coverage when it is up though.
The loop handle is more comfortable than I expected from looking at it. I thought the oval shape might feel strange to hold but it sits quite nicely in my hand. The sleeve does its job, although the fit is fairly close so I tend to hold the bottom while pulling the umbrella out. Once opened it feels like a proper sturdy umbrella, not one with everything rattling about.Unfortunately being folding doesn't automatically mean it will fit in every backpack pocket. It is longer packed away than I had pictured, so I have to put it in the main part of my bag rather than the little section I use for emergency things. There is plenty of coverage when it is up though. The handle gets some curious looks, which I wasn't expecting from an umbrella. People seem to notice that before anything else. It is a slightly unusual thing to carry but I rather enjoy that.
Kent Heath
I'm really pleased with this umbrella.
I'm really pleased with this umbrella. It's a generous size and gives the two of us good cover from rain. We went walking the day after it arrived, and about halfway along the rain came down hard. We stayed drier than we have with umbrellas we've had before. I haven't tried taking it out for shade yet, but I think it'll be good for that too. Feels solidly made and the Beige is lovely. As far as I'm concerned it deserves all five stars, there's really nothing I've found to complain about. Very happy with it!
Nathan Brady
Only had this a few hours, so I opened it outside for a look.
Only had this a few hours, so I opened it outside for a look. The beige is nice and the whole thing has a reassuring weight, not a burden to hold. It gave me decent shade, but there hasn't been any rain yet so that part is untested. It looks well put together. Now I can look forward to a wet day (obviously not). Rain is not exactly my favourite entertainment, which is why I wanted an umbrella in the first place.I might get one for my wife as well.
Sandra Bullock
I love it.
I needed something to carry for shade as my medication means I have to stay out of direct sunlight, and I didn't want the usual purely practical looking umbrella. This has a pretty look to it and people have said how nice it looks when I'm using it. Makes me feel a bit more feminine while I'm out. I love it.
Evan Harrison
This is the first that's felt worth keeping.
I've gone through so many umbrellas in Boston over the last year, cheap ones and expensive ones, little folding ones and bigger ones. This is the first that's felt worth keeping. It seemed pricey when I bought it but constantly replacing cheaper umbrellas adds up...six months in and this one is still working well. I've been out on wet, blustery days when other people were wrestling with theirs, and mine was manageable. That's really what I wanted, something I can take out without wondering if it'll last the walk...
James Sherman
A little magic for wet weather.
A little magic for wet weather.Press that button and a roof appears over you, keeping the rain off!Press it once more and your roof vanishes. Yes, I tried the second trick while I was still outside...perhaps some instructions for the magician would have helped. Wonderful little invention, just don't do the disappearing act while it's raining.
Amber Acosta
It arrived in good order as well.
A few months of use now and it has been what I needed. There is a good amount of cover without it feeling heavy in my hand. Walking in the rain, it keeps the water off me. It arrived in good order as well. I think the price is reasonable for an umbrella of this quality, and I would recommend it.
Madeline Crane
Neatly packaged too.
Pros: Good materials, sturdy construction, comfortable weight, sensible size. Neatly packaged too.Cons: A minor construction concern rather than a fault. The fastening strap is the part I'll be watching over time. It gets pulled each time the umbrella is put away, and I wonder how that attachment point will wear. Nothing has come loose or caused a problem; it's just somewhere I'd prefer extra reinforcement.
Lydia Hudson
There is a limit to the coverage, though.
Hadn't planned to review an umbrella, but this green one has earned a mention. The automatic opening is very handy and it has coped well with gusty days around North Bergen and New York City. There is a limit to the coverage, though. For one person in ordinary rain it is enough. If you're walking a long way with rain coming in sideways, don't expect your lower half to stay dry. That seems a reasonable compromise for something this portable. I'm happy carrying it instead of a full length umbrella, and the opening mechanism makes it especially convenient when a shower starts.
Kelly Warner
It opens to a useful size for a folding umbrella.
Needed something to leave in the car for those sudden South Florida downpours. This has worked out well so far, including when there's been a bit of wind. It opens to a useful size for a folding umbrella. One person is comfortable under it and two could squeeze in if they had to.
Marcus Hardy
Good cover, just not my first choice for children.
While it's a nice looking umbrella, I don't find it especially suited to little hands. I bought two and both feel heavier than I'd expected for the kids to manage. The opening action is quick, which is useful for me, but I'd rather be the one handling the button. Good cover, just not my first choice for children.
Malik Conley
The included sleeve is useful for putting it away.
It has been reassuring out in wind and rain, not something I have to keep fighting with while trying to stay dry. The included sleeve is useful for putting it away. It is heavier than the little folding umbrellas I used before, and the price isn't the lowest either, but I think it's worth paying. This is my third Haven umbrella, with one kept at home and one in the car. This one's my spare.
Wanda Koch
She likes it, just don't expect the coverage of a golf umbrella.
My wife asked for a small umbrella for Christmas and this met the brief. It goes in her handbag, though not the smallest one. A press of the button gives her cover straight away. Down side: enough room for her, not really for both of us. She likes it, just don't expect the coverage of a golf umbrella.
Diamond Murillo
I would happily recommend Haven.
Rainy weather doesn't have to mean carrying something gloomy! I picked the Cream White version and love how bright it looks against all the dark coats on a wet day. There are several other colours, but this one was the choice for me. It's a compact umbrella rather than one of those enormous golf ones...and I'm impressed! Opening it with the button is a nice touch, and there is a decent amount of shelter once it's up. The ribs feel substantial without making it awkward to hold. I've also held it up for shade in the sun and found that useful, so it isn't only coming out when rain is forecast. Simple colour, smart looking umbrella, and much easier to bring along than a big one. I would happily recommend Haven.
Kelli Cervantes
Almost don't want to take this out because I like it so much.
Almost don't want to take this out because I like it so much. I'd be so annoyed if it blew away or I left it somewhere. The loop handle looks different to the ones I usually see, which is part of the appeal for me. I know it's only an umbrella but I really do like having this one.
