Even pressing it again to fold the canopy feels impressive.

Pressing that button when the rain starts gives me a ridiculous amount of satisfaction. One moment it's folded, next moment I'm standing under a canopy like I've performed some minor wizardry. If only the rest of my stuff was this satisfying to operate I'd feel a lot more accomplished. Even pressing it again to fold the canopy feels impressive. Apparently all it takes to make me feel cool is a well timed umbrella opening.

The fabric and mechanism seem good quality.

After a month of carrying this around, I'm still very happy with it. The blue makes a welcome change from the rather anonymous umbrellas I usually end up with. It gets the occasional second look, although thankfully there is nothing particularly alarming about carrying a folded umbrella down the street. The oval loop handle sits nicely in my hand, and putting my fingers through it makes it feel secure without gripping it like I'm preparing for battle with the rain. The fabric and mechanism seem good quality. A press of the button opens it smoothly, which is what I want when I'm already juggling things and the weather decides not to wait. The carry sleeve is useful as well. Once everything is folded away it makes a tidy bundle to put in a bag, leaving my hands available instead of having to carry a loose umbrella. The sleeve is also the source of my one small grumble. If I rush the folding and leave the fabric bunched up, getting it inside takes more fiddling than I would like. Taking a moment to smooth it down first sorts that out. Not a big issue, and an acceptable compromise for keeping it neatly covered.PROS:++A bit of character++Comfortable oval handle++Smooth button opening++Useful cover for carrying CONS:--Needs a reasonably tidy fold before putting the sleeve on. Overall, an everyday item that I actually enjoy using, and one I would happily recommend.

Roomy when open, and it feels sturdy.

Roomy when open, and it feels sturdy. I appreciate the flexible ribs under the canopy, rather than a frame that feels completely rigid. There are quite a few supporting it. I'm tall, so a canopy that covers my shoulders as well as my head matters, and this gives me that without being enormous.

It looks lovely for an occasion like that.

We had noticed an umbrella at a wedding earlier in the year, which made us think of having one ready for my future daughter-in-law. Fortunately the weather behaved and we never needed it at hers. It looks lovely for an occasion like that. The handle feels firm and there is a sensible amount of cover, not something flimsy. We're putting it away for other events; I'd rather have it ready than be wishing for one in the rain.

Darin Middleton

seems like good value to me

Better made than i thought it would be, the frame and handle both feel nicely finished. still a slight smell, hoping a good airing sorts that out. pink on top, black underneath. gives a proper patch of shade, not flimsy see through fabric! seems like good value to me

Looks smart too.

My old umbrella kept flipping in the wind, but I didn't want a big one to lug along with everything else on the walk into work. This is slightly longer folded than the one it replaced, yet it still slips into my computer tote without being much extra to carry. Once it's in there I tend to forget about it. It has coped with the breezy, wet walks here in Ohio and covers me and my bag nicely. Looks smart too. For what it cost, I don't feel I could have asked for much more.

Kristen Conley

Worth considering if you want something practical for the rain.

Yes, a useful companion when the wet weather catches you on the move. There is good room over me, and I can squeeze another person alongside when somebody has been caught without their own umbrella. For a short walk together it has been quite sufficient, without either of us arriving dripping. I like having that little extra space rather than only just covering my head. Worth considering if you want something practical for the rain.

What a pretty umbrella!!

What a pretty umbrella!! Just be sure there's space when you press that button. It springs open quite smartly and I keep it away from anyone standing close. A little more room inside the handle would suit my hand better too.But the overall look is wonderful! I had it with me at a festival today and it was so pleasant having my own shade instead of standing directly in the summer sun. Several people commented on how nice it looked, which was a bonus. It manages to look elegant without being fussy, and I love that. :) Would I tell a friend to get one? Absolutely, I'm delighted with mine!

Maybe there are umbrellas that handle that better, I'm not sure.

Ordering an umbrella felt like admitting defeat after five years in Southern California. I had been putting it off.But this one is fairly substantial. There is enough coverage for me and the bag I carry, which is the main thing I needed. Gustier weather still makes it a bit of work to hold steady. Maybe there are umbrellas that handle that better, I'm not sure. For ordinary rainy days I'm satisfied with this one.

We ordered 2 and I do think they are made well.

We ordered 2 and I do think they are made well. I like how easily they open, but the space underneath wasn't quite what I pictured. About 105cm sounds pretty wide until you are actually standing there with a bag and trying to keep everything covered. For just me it is fine, for sharing I would want something bigger. I guess I was imagining one of those really oversized umbrellas, which this isn't. Still keeping both because they are handy to carry, just wouldn't call this the roomy option for two people lol.

Still glad I went with this one!

Spotted this while looking at umbrellas and kept coming back to it, even after telling myself I didn't need another one! I looked around quite a bit because I wanted something I'd actually carry, rather than leave at home when the weather looked doubtful. Not the cheapest I looked at, but I decided I'd rather have one I liked than keep wishing I'd chosen it. I do love using it, the annoying part is putting it back in the sleeve. Sometimes it goes straight in and sometimes I have to start again and get the folds tidier. I said I wasn't buying another umbrella that required patience, apparently I meant only a little patience! Still glad I went with this one!

Rodney Fletcher

Worth the money for making that bit easier for me.

I have arthritis quite bad in my hands and opening an umbrella then getting it down is hard, especially with something else in my hand. This has been wonderful. Press once and it opens, press again and the canopy folds shut. I don't want to use the ordinary sort anymore if I can help it. Worth the money for making that bit easier for me.

The handle is much nicer than the one on my old umbrella i found that one awkward and it had a rubbery smell this oval one has no noticeable smell and sits better in my hand i can put my fingers through the loop rather than gripping a tiny straight handle all the time so it feels easier to hold great umbrella.

Gabriel Beltran

It spreads out much wider than I expected from the folded umbrella.

What I appreciate most is having enough space beneath it for me and the things I am carrying, rather than having to choose which shoulder gets wet. It spreads out much wider than I expected from the folded umbrella. I can carry it at a comfortable height without the edge blocking my view of the pavement. The fabric has kept the rain off my upper body and the ribs have felt steady when the weather is breezy. I initially thought a compact umbrella would mean putting up with less cover, which is why I hesitated. Having used this one, I would much rather carry it than lug around a long umbrella that never fits in my bag.

Evelyn Murillo

A few friends have commented on how nice it looks.

My daughter started college in Virginia and I sent her this umbrella. She is delighted with it. Apparently a wet day is now a chance to take it out rather than just something to complain about. A few friends have commented on how nice it looks. There is enough room for her to share with a friend on a short walk, which she appreciates. She hasn't been out in really windy weather with it, so I can't comment on that part. For the money, I'm very happy--and she is even happier with her present.

Living in Portland means LOTS of wet walks.

Living in Portland means LOTS of wet walks. Wanted something my son could manage on the long walk to school. He's much happier going out in rain now because he enjoys carrying his umbrella, and people keep telling him how nice it looks. He can open it himself and finds it manageable to carry, so the walk is less of a battle for me.

Stacey Newton

Liking it so far.

Liking it so far. Working in downtown Chicago means umbrellas don't always have an easy time of it. Only used mine a couple of times yet, but it's felt sturdy and gives decent cover. Folds down enough to live in my backpack, which is where I leave it between rainy days.

Big golf umbrellas are great until you have to find somewhere to leave them in the car. This one folds down neatly enough for my driver's door compartment, which is exactly where I want it when rain starts. The sleeve keeps it tidy, and I can use the loop handle to attach it to a bag when I'm taking it along instead of leaving it in the car.

Rachael Huber

Very pleased to have found it!

I enjoy walking to work on fine days, but the sun shining straight down on me can get uncomfortable. I started looking for something to provide shade that I wouldn't mind carrying around once I reached work. This seemed a sensible option and I'm so glad I bought it! The walk feels much more pleasant underneath it than it does with the sun on my head the whole way. Being in shade rather than out in the glare makes a noticeable difference for me, even on a warm day. It is a really pretty umbrella as well, with a simple shape that I love. Folded up it goes neatly into my handbag, then opens out to give me a good area of shade. I don't have to lug around a long umbrella all day. Very pleased to have found it!

Eric Garrison

The handle is fairly compact too.

I find the Haven a useful compact, though I would be cautious about expecting the same coverage as a large walking umbrella. At six feet tall and with a broad build, I am reasonably sheltered across the shoulders but can still catch rain lower down, particularly when it comes sideways. The roughly 105cm open canopy is a decent size for something portable; it just has its limits when there is a larger person underneath. The handle is fairly compact too. With my elbow resting against my side and my hand held around upper chest level, the ribs are nearer my head than I would choose. Lifting my arm gives me more clearance, but that position gets tiring if I have much distance to walk. None of this makes it unpleasant to use for a short journey, and I appreciate not having a full length umbrella to carry afterwards. For a smaller person, or for getting between the car and a building, I think it is a good choice. Someone of my build who regularly walks a long way in steady rain might want a broader canopy. That would be less convenient on a busy pavement, of course, so I am content with the compromise for everyday use.

Austin Dickson

The handle feels comfortable and it seems well put together.

I chose the blue one for my husband and he likes how sturdy it feels. He's a teacher and usually has bags and papers with him, so he wanted something with enough coverage to protect what he's carrying as well as himself. It opens quickly with the button and the canopy closes the same way, which helps when his hands are full. He pushes the shaft in afterwards to pack it away. The handle feels comfortable and it seems well put together. We haven't had it long enough to comment on years of use, but so far it's a very nice umbrella. I'll add more if anything changes.

Louis Knight

Nice to have the same familiar feel again.

Use this most days-going for the bus, shopping, rain or just wanting a bit of shade. Compact enough that I actually take it with me & not leave it at home. The button makes opening quick when I'm juggling things. Wind can still make any umbrella awkward, but holding it into the breeze helps and I've found this manageable. For me the usefulness more than makes up for that bit of fuss. Recently picked up two more after the one I've carried for years started looking tired(still works fine). Nice to have the same familiar feel again. Have been happy with it for everyday use, especially waiting around for buses in the sun.

Good cover without having a long umbrella to carry about.

Living in Seattle and working downtown, I need an umbrella that copes with rain on windy streets. This one has been steady in the weather I've used it in, and covers me and my backpack well. The closed oval loop handle clips onto my bag, useful on the bus when I want a hand free without trying to balance a wet umbrella. Good cover without having a long umbrella to carry about. Very useful...

Tom Grimes

It feels solid without being a burden to carry.

There's a decent amount of cover here for something that folds up. It feels solid without being a burden to carry. Its button operated, which has been very convenient, and the sleeve keeps it tidy in my bag. You need to straighten the fabric out when you pack it away or getting it into that sleeve is a bit fiddly.

Tamara House

The handle was the surprise for me.

This is much more solid than the umbrellas I've used before. The handle was the surprise for me. I thought the oval loop might be awkward, but it sits comfortably in my hand and I don't have to squeeze it as hard as a little straight grip. Seattle gets plenty of wet, gusty weather and it has done well on my outings so far. The canopy gives me good coverage without being a nuisance to carry folded. I'm delighted with it, better than I was expecting.

Alexandria Adams

I wanted something I could carry for shade without it feeling flimsy.

I'm not a fan of sunscreen & living in the desert means there is always sunshine and usually a breeze. I wanted something I could carry for shade without it feeling flimsy.I did wonder whether to spend this much on an umbrella but now I'm glad I went ahead. It makes standing in the sun much more comfortable & feels properly put together. This isn't one of those things I regret spending extra on.If you're buying it mainly for shade, I think it's money well spent.

Credit where it's due, the helpful service deserves a mention!

Credit where it's due, the helpful service deserves a mention! I appreciate getting a courteous response rather than feeling like just another transaction. It makes a difference even when the purchase is something as ordinary as an umbrella. The umbrella itself makes a good impression -- nicely finished, straightforward to open, and a useful size for one person. Only reservations:1. It's a little heavier than I'd pictured, and I hope that substantial feel translates into lasting well.2. I'd like businesses to show their employees the same consideration they show their customers. I have no knowledge of working conditions here, so please don't read that as a claim about this company. It's just important to me that a pleasant shopping experience isn't the only side of the story. Keep that thoughtful approach going for everyone involved, not just the person spending money!

Brendan Winters

She's happy with hers.

Mine is black. My mom borrowed it once and commented on how solid it felt. The push button action and the loop handle suited her, so I bought one for her as well. She's happy with hers. There is a sleeve with it too. It fits into a roomy handbag when folded, though it has a bit more weight than some little umbrellas. To me that goes with the sturdier feel.

Sonia Morales

A small matter, and not difficult to get around.

It does a decent job of keeping rain and other things falling from above off my head. One button opens it and folds the canopy shut again. It packs down neatly yet gives a surprising amount of cover. My only quibble is that it feels more at home in the right hand. I understand we travel on the left side of the road here in the UK, so this strikes me as a little contrary. A small matter, and not difficult to get around.

Douglas Hebert

I'm so glad to have it for shade.

A little expensive for what it is, But honestly!I'm so glad to have it for shade. EVERYONE needs a break from standing in direct sunshine! The pink outer fabric and black underside look good together, and I can feel the relief when I'm under the canopy. I've spent years reading about ways to get shade outdoors, so I wasn't buying just for looks. This is something I will actually carry and use. Give yourself a break from that sun!

Cristina Lin

Our three year old wants to bring this everywhere, rain or no rain!

Our three year old wants to bring this everywhere, rain or no rain! The style is nice and simple, not something that feels just for boys or girls. It is quite a bit roomier than the little children's ones I've looked at, so there's plenty of space as he gets bigger. I help him handle it since it isn't a toddler umbrella. For the price the fabric and frame both feel substantial. Looks like it should last him well.

Sheila Cuevas

These come along for the walk back from school each afternoon.

These come along for the walk back from school each afternoon. We're too close for the bus, and I'd rather walk than sit in that car line for 45 minutes. The shade makes it nicer when the sun is beating down, plus my 6yr old LOVES walking along with her own umbrella. She thinks it's very fancy, which makes me smile. It's been so dry here that we haven't had a chance to use them for rain yet, so I can only speak for shade.

Kellie Price

Five stars for the solid feel and the nice wide canopy.

Mom had kept saying she wanted a "proper umbrella", so I surprised her with this one! She was so tickled that I'd remembered. Five stars for the solid feel and the nice wide canopy. She likes the look of it and and it actually covers her shoulders. Why carry an umbrella that's barely bigger than your head! Would definitely recomend it, Mom is delighted with hers. I noticed a lower price elsewhere after I'd bought it, so a little looking around first might save you some money.

My umbrella wish list was 1/ a button to open it

My umbrella wish list was 1/ a button to open it; 2/ enough room overhead; 3/ folding down enough for most of my purses and 4/ a change from the colour I normally buy. This pretty much ticks them off. I like the green (and being able to pop it open in a hurry!) each time I take it out; it goes in my purses nicely, although I do notice the extra weight. Coverage is good for the size, not like my big golf umbrella of course! Not a complaint- only a comparison. Could see myself getting a couple of the other colours too.

Sarah Walls

The oval loop handle is a nice detail too.

My daughter-in-law is delighted with the umbrella I bought her. I thought the finish was lovely and it gives her decent cover between the car and work when the rain is coming down. It has a much more expensive feel than I expected. The oval loop handle is a nice detail too.

Elizabeth Petty

It looks great and has been dependable every time I've needed it.

I didn't expect to enjoy an umbrella this much, but it's the nicest one I've owned. It looks great and has been dependable every time I've needed it. Rainy walks around Manhattan are a little less of a chore with this along. I've even caught a few people having a look at it. I'm thinking of getting more for gifts.

Caitlyn Contreras

This folds down neatly and opens out much wider than it looks.

My favourite kind of umbrella--portable, but not stingy with the cover. I'm forever leaving them on buses or in restaurants, so a sensible price matters to me. This folds down neatly and opens out much wider than it looks. I'm tall and appreciate not getting my shoulders soaked every time it rains!

Colin Young

Probably the most solid folding umbrella I've had.

Probably the most solid folding umbrella I've had. Handy for everyday use and goes in my backpack without fuss. The shaft feels substantial and that oval handle suits me (I'm 5'9"). Love the automatic opening, and being able to collapse the canopy with the same button is a bonus. Would certainly recommed it!

Spencer Little

As something for shade it covers my head and shoulders fine.

I managed to read "cream white" as "cream tea", which rather suits the look of this little parasol. Lovely looking and seems nicely made, but I haven't tried it out in rain yet. It's dainty for an umbrella (I'm 6'2" and normally go for oversized ones - this feels the opposite, especially if you're over about 5'4"). As something for shade it covers my head and shoulders fine. Arms are another matter, probably not much cover there at all, depending how big you are.

Edwin Hobbs

Handy umbrella so far.

Handy umbrella so far. Pressing the button spreads it out, then another press pulls the canopy shut. You still push the pole down yourself. With my daughter and bags to juggle, that quick canopy close makes getting into the car much easier. Would choose it again!UPDATE: More than six years on and mine is still in lovely shape...really have had my money's worth from it!

Julie Blanchard

The umbrellas I've had from Haven have all been excellent!

The umbrellas I've had from Haven have all been excellent! A solid feel and easy to use, it makes me rather fussy about what I carry now. Can't fault it!!!!! My older teens and college kids also LOVE the style. It suits them for everyday use and folds down neatly enough to take along without much thought.

Wayne Fuentes

Probably my favourite umbrella so far.

Probably my favourite umbrella so far. Nicely put together, not heavy, and folds down neatly. The automatic canopy makes it very convenient. Exactly what I had been after. Small when packed away but a good size once opened. An easy recommendation from me. Very Good!

Abigail Case

It isn't a fault, just the way it works.

A sturdy, handy umbrella, and so far it's been fine in rain and a breeze. The closing button did puzzle me when I first tried it - I had pictured the whole thing retracting, which probably says more about my imagination than anything else. I'm not an engineer, obviously. What actually happens is that a press draws the canopy shut. You then push the telescoping pole down by hand to pack it away. Once I understood that, there wasn't any mystery to it, although I would still prefer a bit less effort on that last push. It isn't a fault, just the way it works. So I'm pleased with the umbrella itself, even if my idea of automatic was rather ambitious. It's a useful size to keep in the car trunk for unexpected showers. I still use a larger umbrella from home, but this makes a good portable backup.

Diana Wilkerson

Rain wasn't really the reason we chose it.

Rain wasn't really the reason we chose it. We needed a base for a Second Line dance umbrella, and the gray fabric worked nicely for that. We put our own lace along the edge, braid over the ribs and rhinestones on the panels. It made a festive decoration for a New Orleans themed wedding. A good starting point for a craft project rather than a ready decorated umbrella.

Kerry Wheeler

Glad to have a decent umbrella again, very pleased with it.

I tend to hang on to a good umbrella, and only needed a replacement because mine got left behind at a restaurant. I've taken this pink one out several times over the last two weeks and it's handled the rain and wind very well. Glad to have a decent umbrella again, very pleased with it.

Crystal Clarke

Worth having if you like an umbrella with a less ordinary handle.

A softer grip would suit me better, the handle feels quite firm. Otherwise it looks great and the construction gives me confidence it will last. Has a sleeve to keep it in, and that oval loop handle gives it quite a different look. At the university where I work, I can imagine getting a few odd looks when I'm walkin around carrying it. Now I am wondering if it is a little too noticeable, although I do like it myself. Worth having if you like an umbrella with a less ordinary handle.

Rickey Alvarado

Finding this one made me very happy.

I had an umbrella in this sort of style a few years back and really missed it after losing it about two years ago. Finding this one made me very happy. It reminded me of the one I'd liked so much, although I decided on a different look this time. Arrived in good shape, nothing bent or damaged, and it works just as I hoped. It looks lovely opened up and makes going out on a gloomy wet day a little less miserable!

Melvin Spence

Very happy to have this one ready for rain.

My husband gave me this after I put an umbrella on my Christmas wish list. Several moves have meant losing track of things, and I wanted an umbrella I'd be happy to take out.The cream white is lovely. It opens with a quick press, and another press folds the canopy before I push the stem back in. Plenty of cover for me with one of the kids close alongside. The sleeve gives it somewhere tidy to go afterwards. Very happy to have this one ready for rain.

Trevor Burnett

At last, one I'm comfortable taking out on a breezy day.

At last, one I'm comfortable taking out on a breezy day. It's become my first choice. The loop handle suits my hand and the sleeve is handy for putting it away. My mother took one look at it and wanted her own, so I ordered another for her. Otherwise I could see mine becoming hers on a fairly permanent "loan" before very long.

Joshua Joseph

).

For anyone fed up with replacing flimsy umbrella's, this one is worth spending a bit more on-- sturdy, easy to carry, and it hasn't turned inside out in the gusts I've had (a nice change!). Packs away without much fuss and gives me enough room without getting soaked at the shoulders!
