So far I've mainly used it for shade rather than rain.

So far I've mainly used it for shade rather than rain. My son is still too little for sunblock and I carry him in a sling. I hadn't been looking for automatic operation, but it's turned out to be very useful. I can raise it or bring the canopy in using one hand while holding him. Compressing the pole afterwards needs another hand, but the part I need quickly is easy.

Coverage is fine for me on my own, not much room to spare.

Light enough that I don't mind leaving it in my purse when rain is possible. The folding design is convenient, but I wouldn't choose it for a really windy day. Coverage is fine for me on my own, not much room to spare. A useful carry-along umbrella rather than something I'd want for every kind of weather.

Lovely seeing her so pleased with her own umbrella!

Our 2 year old was so excited when she saw this!!! She looks (and feels) very grown up. The loop handle is her favourite bit, and she uses both hands to hang on while she shelters underneath. She can't manage the button and packing it away by herself yet, so her 5 year old sister helps with us nearby. Lovely seeing her so pleased with her own umbrella!

Bought a bunch of these for my wedding party.

Bought a bunch of these for my wedding party. They were just right for it. Only three came back to me after the reception and I still use them regularly, The button makes opening easy and I like how neatly they fold up when it's time to put them away. How they look doesn't bother me much since I'm staying nice and dry underneath! :-)

Lovely pink on this folding umbrella.

Lovely pink on this folding umbrella. one button puts the canopy up and brings it down, very simple to use. the ribs have some give and the material sheds rain well. loop handle is comfortable in my hand. enough cover for ordinary rain or a little shade. folds into a manageable size for taking out every day!

My wife is very fond of this umbrella.

My wife is very fond of this umbrella. With her chemo treatments she wants shade when she's out, and people often tell her how nice it looks. We've bought a second one after she left the first open in a public building where it got caught by a door. The opening button took her a few days to get used to, but she manages it easily now.

I'm delighted with this umbrella!

I'm delighted with this umbrella! It feels carefully put together and I've already had several reasons to be glad I had it with me. The button works smoothly, bringing the canopy up and drawing it in again. Packs down neatly for carrying too. An easy recommendation from me.

Andre Hebert

The canopy opens taut, the handle is firm and the button works easily.

I bought this as part of my husband's birthday present. It looked lovely as a gift because of the neat finish and quality of the materials. The umbrella is solid in it's construction and the fabric has a good feel. The canopy opens taut, the handle is firm and the button works easily. A worthwhile purchase and he was pleased to receive it.

The reviews and the price are what persuaded me to try this umbrella.

The reviews and the price are what persuaded me to try this umbrella. I did read some less positive comments and wondered whether the quality might be a gamble. Mine has been absolutely fine. It gives a generous bit of cover and has kept the rain off well. I hadn't had an umbrella with a frame like this before, and it seems less bothered by everyday gusts than the ones I've had previously. I've been very happy using it and would have no hesitation recommending it.

Kelsey Parsons

It has dealt with showers and heavier rain equally well.

We've had a very wet spring and I've taken this out quite a bit. It has dealt with showers and heavier rain equally well. Plenty of cover for me, and my dog can squeeze in beside me on our walks. The ribs have more flex than I expected, which initially made the frame feel less substantial. In use that hasn't been a problem. I haven't been caught in really strong wind with it, so I can't say how it would behave then. For the money it has been a useful everyday umbrella.

My kids are 4 and 7 and these have been a big hit!

My kids are 4 and 7 and these have been a big hit! They'd asked for umbrellas with characters on them, so I wasn't sure about choosing plain blue, but they were straight outside when it rained. They were fascinated watching the water run off the edges and now seem to think sitting out in rain is a great activity. Makes me laugh! The umbrellas feel well made. They enjoy using the button, although I handle pushing the shafts back down. More umbrella than I'd want the youngest carrying about unsupervised.

Handy umbrella for shade beside the children's picnic table!

Handy umbrella for shade beside the children's picnic table! I just hold it while we're out there and put it in the coat closet afterwards, so it isn't left out in all weather. We've had use from ours for three summers! One thing to consider is the price. A compact umbrella can still be a bit of a spend...I'd compare what you're paying before deciding. Does the job we wanted, just wouldn't pay any amount for it!

Carl Nielsen

It has felt dependable in wind and rain so far.

Feels exceptionally well made. Spending this much on an umbrella seemed a bit excessive, but I was fed up with replacing ones that didn't last. Roomy for me and enough for two if we stand close. It has felt dependable in wind and rain so far. I'd suggest this to anyone who would rather buy one decent umbrella and keep using it.

Cheyenne Irwin

I'M VERY HAPPY I did.

A television recommendation was what made me give this umbrella a try. After having it and actually using it....I'M VERY HAPPY I did. It has dealt with the rainy, windy days I've carried it on and hasn't given me any trouble AT ALL. A year or two of use now and I still reach for it. I keep thinking another one or two to have handy would be a sensible purchase! :-)

Right now I'm happy with how it has worked.

Walking around New York City means dealing with other people all around you, and umbrellas add another thing to keep track of. I've had the usual experience of having to raise mine or step aside when someone approaches, so I wanted something that wasn't a nuisance to manage. This was a Christmas gift & today was the first proper chance to use it in that mixture of sleet and rain. It kept me dry and felt manageable on the busy sidewalks. I still paid attention to where the edges were, but holding it above my eye line let me see people coming and move past them without much fuss. The folding size is handy once you're back inside too, rather than having a long wet umbrella to carry around. It looks stylish and feels solid enough for the sort of blustery weather I walk in, though one outing isn't a long-term test. For someone who walks a lot in the city, it seems a thoughtful present. Right now I'm happy with how it has worked.

Stacie Yu

A nice classic combination.

I love the cream white, although the umbrella has a bit more weight to it than I pictured. Compact had me thinking it would slip into my handbag. Not quite that small. The canopy closes at a touch, which is handy, and it all feels solid. Two of us can squeeze underneath if needed. Mine will live in the car for those sudden downpours. The light canopy against the black underneath looks lovely. A nice classic combination.

Allison Christian

The handle is on the short side

Four and a half years of use now, mostly around New York. Unless I forget it and have to grab my little backup, this is the umbrella that comes with me.It's spent a lot of time stuffed into a backpack without its sleeve, so a few marks on the outside are hardly surprising. Still absolutely FINE in the rain. The handle is on the short side; I tend to grip a little farther up when I'm carrying it. The cost hardly amounts to anything per year when I think how long I've used it.***Packing it neatly matters. I straighten the folds and gather the rib ends together before wrapping the fabric, rather than just squashing everything and pulling it tight. Takes an extra moment, saves a lot of fuss getting it tidy.***Not a fancy ritual, just something I've got used to doing. Already tucked in my bag for tonight's rain!

Gerald Harvey

The blue looks good too.

Summer in the Central Valley gets seriously hot, often around 90 to 110. Carrying this doesn't make the heat disappear, but having shade over me is noticeably nicer than walking without it. On the golf course it's rather like bringing along a small patch of tree shade. The blue looks good too. It seems solid enough that I'll also be able to use it when the winter rain comes.

Dominic Pace

This feels properly sturdy and looks lovely!

What a relief!! This feels properly sturdy and looks lovely! Getting it up is quick, which mattered when my daughter and I got caught in a horrible downpour. The wind kept changing direction and we had quite a walk across the parking lot to the car before my meeting. I honestly thought we would arrive with dripping hair. We squeezed together beneath it and kept it facing the rain, and both made it back with our hair dry!! It felt secure in my hand, not something I was constantly fighting to keep open. For something that folds away, the coverage really impressed me. So happy to have this one!!

Marilyn Salinas

My daughter is so proud taking this umbrella to school in the rain.

My daughter is so proud taking this umbrella to school in the rain. Apparently an umbrella can be quite the fashion statement! It's smart as well as useful, with good cover for her. It folds small enough to carry without the bother of a long umbrella sticking out everywhere.

Gail Page

Just like the pictures.

Looks quite ordinary folded up, but I was surprised by how much cover it gives once opened. Just like the pictures. It was a christmas present for my daughter, who goes to college in Boston. She spends so much time walking and catching trains that a practical umbrella like this makes a lot of sense for her.

Jerome Flowers

Turned up quickly.

Turned up quickly. There was more room underneath than I'd pictured once I opened it, which was a nice surprise. Two of us can stand close together under it. Might sound silly but I really wanted beige rather than anything showy, and I'm happy with how it looks.I like the oval handle too, there's something proper to grip. The fabric has some fold lines when it first opens, which I suppose is unavoidable with a folding umbrella, but those don't bother me once it's up and being used!

Bryce Guerra

The coverage is better than I expected from a folding umbrella.

The coverage is better than I expected from a folding umbrella. Not something I'd use in place of a beach umbrella, but quite useful for holding over yourself for a bit of shade. The black is simple and the whole thing feels well put together. I like it, although it isn't the tiny sort I'd slip into a small purse. It folds up neatly enough to keep in the car, which is where mine will live. On family outings it will be handy when either the rain starts or someone needs a break from the sun. I could see taking it along to watch outdoor sports too. Feels like a item we'll keep using rather than something bought for one rainy afternoon. I'd recommend it.

Melody Hampton

The black fabric looks neat opened up.

After seeing somebody carrying an umbrella with an interesting inside, I kept thinking about finding one I liked just as much. I wasn't trying to track down that exact design, and the idea sat at the back of my mind for a while. Then this black one caught my attention while browsing! Quite different from the original inspiration, but I liked its plain appearance. There hasn't been rain here since it arrived, so my only trying it out has been indoors. The black fabric looks neat opened up. It has a sleeve as well, and underneath is black too, rather than a picture or contrasting pattern. You notice all the ribs when you're standing under it. The closed oval handle is a little different from the handles I'm used to, but feels nice in my hand. A press of the button opens it, and another press brings the canopy down. You still have to shorten the telescoping part yourself afterwards. I had to read that part again, but it's straightforward once you've done it. I also should have paid more attention to the folded length. At about 40cm it's longer than the space I'd mentally allowed in my smaller bag (my mistake, I was looking more at the pictures than the dimensions!). So that particular bag won't be coming along when I carry it. I'll use a larger one, not a huge problem. For now it looks good and I'm looking forward to getting some actual rain to try it in.

You do need a firm grip when the wind catches the canopy

Working in school administration means I don't always get to stay inside when the weather is miserable. Rain seems to arrive right on cue for crossing duty, the bus line, or an evening football game! After two years of carrying this umbrella, I'm still very happy with it. The fabric and frame have held up well, and it opens as readily as it did at the beginning. There are a few scuffed spots on the handle, but I can blame myself for those. I've rested that end on the pavement more than once. Today we have a storm passing through the area. We're well inland, but it has still made for a wet, blustery day. Out of curiosity I took the umbrella outside for a short try, and it stayed steady rather than trying to fold itself backwards. I've used it in other gusty downpours too. You do need a firm grip when the wind catches the canopy; you can feel it tugging your arm, so I wouldn't just hold it loosely and forget about it. Through the weather I've actually used it in, though, it has kept its shape!! For something I depend on during outdoor duty, that counts for a lot. Very glad I have it!

Shane Russell

This one feels ready for the wet days and I'm happy with it.

A nicely made umbrella, with a frame that feels solid and fabric that seems durable. My last umbrella got trapped in the car door, which is why I needed another rather than because I fancied a change. That's a lot to ask any umbrella to survive. This one feels ready for the wet days and I'm happy with it.

Francis Andersen

Very happy to have it!

Living in the Northwest means an umbrella has to be more than something that looks nice. I've seen enough abandoned ones after wet, windy days to be wary. So far this has earned its place!! Two rainy outings and it kept its shape and kept me dry. There's enough cover to tuck my bag close beside me as well, which matters when I'm hauling things around. It's not the tiniest bundle in my bag, but I can live with that for something that feels dependable. Very happy to have it!

Sheryl Reeves

A good umbrella overall.

A good umbrella overall. Dropping one star because my idea of small/portable is a little smaller than this! It takes up more space and weighs more than I expected. Maybe that's the trade-off for a sturdy frame, but a slimmer, lighter version would suit my bag better. Still easy enough to take along, and the blue looks pretty smart too....I do like it!

Tami Davis

They do keep the rain off and the opening works as expected.

I ordered two after a friend's recommendation and reading quite a few reviews online. They do keep the rain off and the opening works as expected. However, I find them bulkier to pack than I wanted, and pushing the telescoping section down takes more effort than suits me. Usable umbrellas, just not quite the convenient purchase I had hoped for.

Alan Hughes

A year on, I'm still glad I bought this umbrella.

A year on, I'm still glad I bought this umbrella. It feels properly made, without me thinking I can take it out in absolutely anything. My walk to work can be windy and it has kept its shape on those wet mornings, which is what I needed. The flexible ribs seem to give a bit rather than feeling rigid, and I don't find myself fighting with it the whole way. It also looks quite smart for an everyday umbrella. I can't say how it'll compare over several years, but so far the frame and fabric are holding up nicely. It folds away neatly once I'm indoors as well. Certainly feels like money well spent.

Rodney Guerra

A really sweet little umbrella and just the simple style I wanted.

A really sweet little umbrella and just the simple style I wanted. No cartoon faces all over it, which makes a nice change from the shops. My three-year-old twins can manage the opening button with me there, and I appreciate not having a big hooked handle to carry around.

Janice Reynolds

Worth the money for me.

Worth the money for me. I have three, with one at home, one in the car and another at work. They feel sturdy and the plain design looks elegant. I like having one wherever I need it rather than remembering to move it around. Quite a smart umbrella for something that folds away!

Debra Joyce

The umbrellas feel excellent quality and look smart.

Bought these as Christmas presents for the people who care for my autistic son. They went down so well ! The umbrellas feel excellent quality and look smart. Having a sleeve with each one is handy for putting them away. Everything arrived nicely and I was pleased with how the presents turned out.

Carol Edwards

this is a substantial umbrella for something that folds up.

this is a substantial umbrella for something that folds up. But don't expect a little thing to disappear into your briefcase or handbag. The oval handle takes up some room too, so it's not going into my coat pocket, no chance. I can carry it fine, just wouldn't call it ultra small. If its properly raining I'd much rather have the coverage and solid feel of this. For the odd light shower, and when space is everything , a smaller umbrella might make more sense.

George Carlson

I'm beginning to think I should have bought myself one too!

Didn't quite appreciate the open size when I ordered this for my daughter. She is so tiny that it looks rather big over her, even though it folds away neatly. We have had a laugh about mom supplying her with her own little roof. Once she finishes college next year and is heading to work in smart clothes, I think she'll be grateful for the extra cover in the rain. It feels nicely made and the fabric looks good, not just something for show. For now she can laugh at my choice but I suspect she'll use it plenty....I'm beginning to think I should have bought myself one too!

Cathy Fox

Sometimes paying a bit more is worth the time saved!

Bought a few to give the girls at Christmas when I was stuck for ideas. These went down well- everyone liked them! The material feels decent & they seem nicely put together too!Not the cheapest gifts, but it meant I could stop searching. Sometimes paying a bit more is worth the time saved!

Tabitha Graham

For the price, I'm pleased with the umbrella overall.

For the price, I'm pleased with the umbrella overall. The fabric is fairly basic and it doesn't have a particularly luxurious finish. The stitching looks simple but holds everything together neatly. It opens properly and keeps me dry, which is what matters. A useful economical choice without unnecessary extras.

Kiara Zavala

We're glad we got it.

Our daughter asked for an umbrella for Christmas, which made sense with all the rain we get. She is two and a half and loves having her very own one. We hold it with her since it isn't a toddler umbrella, but she still wants it along even when it's dry. It seems nicely made and has coped with her enthusiasm. We're glad we got it.

Dakota Hudson

Compact enough for my bag and not much trouble to carry.

Compact enough for my bag and not much trouble to carry. I like having it along even on dry days, just in case the weather changes. The button opens it without any fuss once you know where to press. Still waiting to give it a proper try in rain, but so far it seems good.

Shannon English

I've always liked this type of umbrella.

I've always liked this type of umbrella. My previous one gave me several years of good use, so when I needed another I stayed with something familiar. The new one opens smoothly and has the same solid feel I liked before. I didn't want to be caught without an umbrella at this time of year, and ended up buying an extra as well. Now I have two of them ready to use. Probably more than I need, but I'm glad I went with these again.

Shawn Dunn

Really pleased with this umbrella.

Really pleased with this umbrella. One button handles opening and closing the canopy, which makes it easy to use. Taken it through a few storms and it feels solid, without flipping over in the wind. Seems well put together & folds down small as well. Money well spent.

Rickey Miller

The quality is better than the price led me to expect.

The quality is better than the price led me to expect. Gray on the outside with a black underside, and the finishing is tidy. Operation is straightforward—the button brings the canopy up, and another press gathers it again. Compressing the shaft finishes putting it away. All in all, a nicely made umbrella that seems very good value for the money.

Carly Molina

The blue is lovely and makes a wet day feel a little brighter.

The blue is lovely and makes a wet day feel a little brighter. Opening and folding the canopy with the button is handy, but you have to push the shaft right back into the handle before it'll open again. A few people have admired it. I fumbled with that last step in a heavy shower on its first outing, which wasn't much fun. Hopefully it'll keep working nicely now I've learned the little "trick" to putting it away.

Danielle Mayo

Wants to bring it out even on dry days.

my 5 year old got this as a birthday present and barely looks at anything else! Wants to bring it out even on dry days. People say how lovely it is and she gets such a proud smile :) It feels sturdy after being carted about everywhere. She likes pressing the opening button, while I help with folding and packing it away to keep little fingers clear.

Doris Ramos

Nicely put together and not much weight to hold.

At my grandkids' baseball games I'm usually hunting for shade, and now I can bring my own! Everyone else is sitting there roasting while I'm comfortable under this. Nicely put together and not much weight to hold. I'm planning on another for the other car, because otherwise I know I'll leave it in the one I haven't taken.

Annette Kidd

Mine has been fine through the normal showers over the last year.

Its a decent everyday umbrella for the money, not something I'd pick for extreme weather. Mine has been fine through the normal showers over the last year. Feels a little basic in the hand, but it keeps me dry and has lasted well enough to earn four stars from me

Tamara Gaines

Very pleased with the gift.

Christmas present for my Mom, who finds ordinary umbrellas awkward to open and fold away. She likes being able to open this with a button and bring the canopy down with another press. The shaft still needs compressing by hand, but she finds the routine much easier. It feels substantial enough for our wet days. It arrived before the other things I'd ordered too. Very pleased with the gift.

Roberto Vang

The mechanism feels solid, nothing about it has that flimsy feel.

Chose this hoping for a step up in quality and that was my first impression straight away. The mechanism feels solid, nothing about it has that flimsy feel. I particularly like using the handle button to open it and then to draw the canopy closed. You still compress the telescoping section yourself afterwards. On feel alone I'd expect it to last well.First impressions only of course. Folded it's around 40cm, which is a reasonable everyday size for me and fits the bags I take to work.

Chelsea Leach

Several people have said how nice it looks.

Bought this for summer and it has been both pretty and useful--a nice bit of shade over my head and shoulders, without looking plain. Several people have said how nice it looks. The inner frame and flexible ribs feel quite substantial, so I expect it to last well. The button is a little stiff to press, but for the price I'm pleased with it. I'd certainly recommend it!

Bernard Valentine

I went with cream white and am pleased with how it looks.

For the price I paid, this feels like a sensible buy rather than something I'd have to treat as disposable. I went with cream white and am pleased with how it looks. The construction feels substantial, and with ordinary care I expect to get good use out of it. The carry sleeve is useful and the closed oval handle gives me an easy place to hold it or hang it up. My only small gripe is getting the folds tidy enough to slip the cover over; I tend to spend a moment smoothing them rather than just stuffing it in. Once packed, it's a convenient size for the car. Mine lives across the back of the hatch so it is there when needed.
