Around here in the bay area winter rain can hang around all week.

Around here in the bay area winter rain can hang around all week. I wanted an umbrella that felt dependable in drizzle as well as a proper shower, and this has done nicely when it's breezy too. I was tired of buying the cheapest ones and then wishing I'd chosen something sturdier. Spending a bit more has turned out to be a good decision for me :-)

handy folding umbrellas.

handy folding umbrellas. My girl plays soccer so my husband, son and me take these along for the stands. We can put them up and have a dry spot each instead of just sitting getting rained on. Not fancy looking but honestly who minds. Glad to have something to shelter under while cheering her through another wet match.SO WORTH HAVING

Very pleased with how it turned out.

Hard to judge from it folded up, but there is a decent amount of shade once you open it. First tried mine after a thunderstorm with the weather still in the eighties. Everything was hot and sticky, the rain hadn't done much for making it less humid. Never used this kind before and I was half expecting it to feel steamy under there as well. Being out of the direct sunshine was actually very comfortable. There's room for me with the two kids pulled in close, which was what I needed, and a storage sleeve comes with it for putting it away afterwards. Very pleased with how it turned out.

Now I actually catch myself hoping for rain.

The moment a few drops land I get to press that button and feel ridiculously important. Instant umbrella. Apparently this is all the advanced technology I need to be happy. If more everyday stuff sprang into action like this I'd feel much more successful at being an adult. Now I actually catch myself hoping for rain. Pulling this out and watching it pop open makes me feel far cooler than I probably look.

The umbrella looks smart and the frame feels solid.

Made it to work and back on a wet, blustery day in Chicago without getting soaked. The umbrella looks smart and the frame feels solid. Other umbrellas I've used haven't inspired much confidence, but this one stayed in shape nicely. I can hold it comfortably high enough to see the pavement ahead, which I appreciate!

Lindsey Soto

Packs away tidily too.

It seems solid and opens out to a good size, two people can stand quite close under it. Packs away tidily too. The weight might be a little much for children or someone older, and shortening the pole needs a firm push after the button has shut the canopy. So some hand strength is needed for that last part. Still waiting to try it in proper rain, but everything looks promising and I am pleased with the purchase so far.

Fun little umbrella to take out when the rain starts.

Fun little umbrella to take out when the rain starts. A few people have asked about the handle when i have it with me in the sleeve. Only downside is waiting for it to dry before putting it away, not something to pack up wet. The loop handle feels solid though, and is a surprisingly comfortable shape to carry around.

Warren Joyce

This feels like it could be that umbrella.

After reading a few comments about opening it, i wasn't certain this would be the right umbrella for me. Decided to try it anyway. Mine opens without a struggle, just the button and it's up, so i really can't say I had the same experience. I'm not a big strong guy either. I carried it across my college campus on a cold day with wind and rain, and had my laptop case with me. Neither I nor the case got soaked, which was the whole point. The canopy stayed the right way round too. I wasn't shopping for anything fancy, only something solid that I wouldn't need to replace straight away. This feels like it could be that umbrella. Treat it reasonably and i think it'll be around a good while!

Dominic Crawford

More than a year of being carried around and mine still looks good.

Needed an umbrella that could live in my backpack without being precious about it. More than a year of being carried around and mine still looks good. It's coped with windy wet days too, without turning over on me. The button action is useful when I'm juggling my bag.The cover reaches over me and the backpack, which matters with electronics tucked inside. You get a surprising amount of shelter from something that folds down to go back in the bag.

Some thought has gone into this umbrella.

Some thought has gone into this umbrella. Walking to work with a flimsy one turning inside out is no fun, especially with people watching you wrestle it.The frame here feels reassuring and the flexible ribs have some give rather than feeling brittle. Not too heavy to carry along either. The canopy has a useful spread once open - enough to keep my shoulders covered without being awkward on the pavement. A much better experience for my daily walk.

Angie Ward

Pressing the button sends it up smoothly without any fiddling.

We have four of these now, one each in the family, and everybody is happy with theirs. The oval grip feels GOOD to me, sits nicely in my hand rather than digging in. Pressing the button sends it up smoothly without any fiddling. The canopy fabric has a nice substantial feel and settles into its folds quite easily afterwards. I also appreciate having a sleeve to keep the folded umbrella together. Once it's dry I can slide it into that and put it in my bag, instead of having loose fabric catching on everything.

Denise Sellers

My one reservation is the coverage for somebody my size.

A month in, so these are early impressions, and I haven't had it out in any serious "gusts". It looks handsome, feels very well assembled and the button gives a nice crisp opening. The flexible ribs are reassuring too. My one reservation is the coverage for somebody my size. I'm 6'6" and had pictured a little more shelter for my feet/legs. Around 105cm across when open is good for a compact, but it doesn't turn it into a big walking umbrella. I'm pleased with what it is, just bear in mind your own height and expectations when deciding on the size.

Kyle Leonard

Spent a little more on this one and don't regret it.

Most times it rains I'm the one who has left an umbrella behind, or I'm struggling with some cheap freebie. Spent a little more on this one and don't regret it. The gray is a good colour and it has coped nicely with wind so far. A bit more coverage would be welcome, but it folds down well enough that I'm actually happy to keep it with me.

Rebekah Ponce

He keeps telling me how handy it is.

Dad wanted more cover for his walks around the golf course, so I bought him this for christmas. He's retired and plays about three times a week. He keeps telling me how handy it is. The button makes it quick to put up and he finds it comfortable to carry. Enough room for him getting back to the clubhouse. He's quite proud of it.

Danny Hughes

IT FEELS LIKE A GOOD QUALITY ITEM FOR THE PRICE.

MY WIFE AND I PICKED THIS AS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR MY MOTHER. THE UMBRELLA LOOKS VERY NICELY FINISHED AND THE CREAM WHITE IS BEAUTIFUL. SHE REALLY LIKES USING THE BUTTON TO PUT IT UP AND BRING THE CANOPY BACK IN. IT FEELS LIKE A GOOD QUALITY ITEM FOR THE PRICE. MY MOTHER HAS HAD ALOT OF NICE COMMENTS WHEN CARRYING IT. I'D SUGGEST IT TO ANYONE WANTING A SMART LOOKING UMBRELLA THAT WORKS WELL. SHE IS DELIGHTED WITH HER PRESENT AND SO ARE WE!!!

Edwin Booth

I'm happy with the quality and would pay the same again.

For me this umbrella was worth the money, it seems a well made piece of kit. I haven't tried it in really strong winds yet, so I can't say much about that, but it feels more substantial than the ones I've had before. It folds down neatly without feeling flimsy. I'm happy with the quality and would pay the same again.

John Herman

The folded length is worth checking if you use a small bag.

A little more umbrella than I was expecting once it was open. It has felt solid so far and mine came well packed. My legs can still get splashed when the rain is coming sideways, so don't expect to stay completely dry just because you have it up. That seems fairly normal for a compact umbrella though. I really do like how it looks. The folded length is worth checking if you use a small bag. Mine also needed a quick wipe when it arrived, there was a little dust on the fabric. Fine after that.

Ruben Chase

Rain in the forecast doesn't bother me now, this umbrella realy…

Rain in the forecast doesn't bother me now, this umbrella realy gives me a nice amount of cover. I am happy with it but going inside with my hands full is a fiddle. The button shuts the canopy, then you still have to push the shaft in with two hands. A little combersome when you're carrying things, but it feels solid enough to make that worth it.

Sonia Green

) was keen on having an umbrella.

My little grandson (and his dad!) was keen on having an umbrella. This one seemed a good choice, and the loop handle was the part that caught his attention. He thinks it is great. I would have liked a brighter blue, with less black showing underneath, but he is delighted with that handle and has been enjoying using it.

Geoffrey Bonilla

Green compact umbrella--automatic opening--very nice quality.

Green compact umbrella--automatic opening--very nice quality.I'd noticed a green umbrella in a magazine picture a while ago and kept thinking I would like one. I already had one of these at home and had been happy with it, so finding the green version was enough to tempt me into another. It has the same solid feel as my first one. The fabric looks tidy, the ribs have some give rather than feeling brittle, and it opens without any fuss. I especially like the shade of green--not an overwhelming colour, just very pleasant to look at. It seems well put together for something that gets carried around and opened so often. For anyone wanting a good looking umbrella with useful coverage in the rain, I would certainly suggest this one!

Cassie Carr

I'm pleased I went for it.

I bought it with walks round the golf course in mind. The cover is good for me and I can tuck my bag close enough to keep most of it dry too. It has behaved well in breezy weather, which makes a difference when you're out walking.I also carry it around college where I seem to spend half my time getting between buildings. It folds down nicely for that, rather than being another long thing to carry (though someone still asks to squeeze under it with me whenever the rain starts). I'm pleased I went for it.

Kent Mckenzie

Solid umbrella with a comfortable grip.

Solid umbrella with a comfortable grip. Deals with a breeze well. I can clip it onto my backpack instead of trying to fit it inside. Button takes a firm press, but the opening is quick. The carabiner gate feels lighter than the handle itself. Overall a very useful umbrella.

Tonya Ibarra

Feels properly put together.

Feels properly put together. The 30 ribs give the canopy a nice supported shape and the fabric doesn't feel bulky. Rain runs off it well. Much easier to hold than a big golf umbrella, rather than carrying a whole shelter overhead. Liked it enough to get one for a friend.

Derrick Hays

Come on rain, come on rain, come on rain.

I compared quite a few reviews before deciding on this umbrella. What appealed to me was having decent coverage without carrying a full length umbrella everywhere. After opening it, I understood the attraction. There's room over my head and shoulders, so I don't feel as though my hair is hanging out in the rain. I can hold it above my line of sight comfortably and see where I'm walking. Still need to mind the edges when passing people, but it's manageable. A very pleasing purchase. Come on rain, come on rain, come on rain.

Clayton Griffin

The plain canopy and unusual oval handle look quite elegant together.

I've never had an umbrella that looked this smart, and was delighted when it arrived. The plain canopy and unusual oval handle look quite elegant together. If you want something a little different, I'd say this is worth spending extra on. It is much nicer than the bargain umbrellas I usually pick up at the shops.

Maureen Stephenson

My wife absolutely LOVES a nice design!!

My wife absolutely LOVES a nice design!! and was thrilled when she saw this umbrella. She was full of praise for the tidy fittings & the way the covering looks when opened, it does feel like a decent quality item. Only thing is she's almost too precious about it to let the rain near it!!!! Thank you for something both pretty and useful, definitely happy to recommend it!!!Best wishes........

It will get used sooner or later, I'm sure.

The blue was just right with the bridesmaids' dresses, so I ordered it as a precaution for my daughter's wedding. Outdoor photographs were important to them and I didn't want rain to spoil everything. As it turned out the weather was beautiful and the umbrella stayed folded. No complaints about buying something we didn't need on the day. It will get used sooner or later, I'm sure.Mother of the bride

Definitely my favourite umbrella so far.

This umbrella manages to be handy folded up and properly roomy once open. Strong but not a burden to carry, simple, smart, useful... My previous umbrellas haven't lasted well, so I was a bit doubtful, but this feels much more substantial. There is a reassuring snap when it opens with the button! Two of us can stand close together underneath without wet shoulders. The Cream White is a nice change from all the dark umbrellas around me. For something that fits away so neatly, it gives a lot of shelter. Definitely my favourite umbrella so far.

Vincent Cunningham

Lovely beige fabric and a nice finish.

Lovely beige fabric and a nice finish. The frame feels substantial rather than delicate. We got it for a wedding photo session, so it probably won't see much use unless another couple borrows it. Whoever uses it next should be just as pleased with how it looks and feels.

Darlene Gould

I also find the closed oval loop handle comfortable.

Most of my walk to school is exposed, and rain there usually comes with enough wind to make an umbrella worth thinking about before buying one. The cheap folding ones I used previously were all right in light rain, but didn't inspire much confidence once the weather changed. Seeing discarded umbrellas along the street also gets a little discouraging. I wanted something more substantial, without having to carry a long umbrella into every class. I spent quite a while comparing descriptions, prices and people's experiences. There were larger and more expensive options that looked appealing, but eventually I decided this was a reasonable middle ground. Paying less wouldn't have helped much if I ended up shopping for another one soon afterward. After about three months of using it on my school walks, I'm pleased with that decision. There are a few separate things that make it better for me than the small umbrellas I had been using. -The open size is useful without being ridiculous. It's listed at roughly 105cm across, which seems consistent with the amount of coverage I get. I haven't taken a tape measure to it. For one person there is enough room that I don't have to keep my arms pressed against my sides to stay under it. Rain coming in sideways will still reach your trousers, of course. Having a wider canopy doesn't change that. But my head, shoulders and the front of my clothes have stayed dry on the walks where I actually needed it. Folded, it's not one of those tiny umbrellas that disappears into any pocket. It fits in my school bag, though, and that is what matters to me. The weight is noticeable but hasn't made carrying it around a problem. -It feels much more controlled when the wind catches it. There is some give in the frame, rather than that brittle feeling where you wonder what is going to snap first. I've had gusts catch the edge while walking past gaps between buildings, and so far it has kept its shape. I still turn it toward the rain and pay attention to how I'm holding it. I wouldn't deliberately hold it out against the worst weather just to see what happens. For the windy, rainy walks I bought it for, it has been reassuring. This isn't based on any kind of formal test, just using it and noticing that I'm no longer constantly checking whether the frame is about to turn over. That makes a bigger difference than I expected when I'm trying to get to class. -The construction generally seems well thought out. Looking underneath, the 30 ribs make a much denser arrangement than I'm used to seeing in a folding umbrella. They have some flexibility, and none have become bent out of place during my use. The fabric feels substantial enough for the frame, with tidy seams and no areas that look as though they are being pulled too tightly. I've checked around the edges a few times after wet walks and everything still looks properly attached. The central shaft feels firm when extended, without making the whole thing awkward to hold. I also find the closed oval loop handle comfortable. It is a different shape from a straight handle, but I haven't had to keep adjusting my grip to find a decent way of holding it. The opening mechanism deserves a mention as part of that construction. A press of the button gets it ready quickly, which is convenient when I step outside and discover the rain is heavier than it looked through the window. Closing is in two stages: the button gathers the canopy, and I shorten the telescoping shaft manually before putting it away. That takes a deliberate push, but the movement feels positive rather than loose. I wasn't expecting every part to retract at the touch of a button, so this hasn't bothered me. Once packed down, it stays compact enough to go back in my bag. All of this feels more substantial than the folding umbrellas I was accustomed to, without becoming something I resent carrying on a day when it never actually rains. The one fiddly part for me is getting the fabric arranged neatly enough to slide it into the sleeve. If I bunch everything up carelessly, I have to straighten it out again. Taking a few extra seconds solves that, and I normally leave it out to dry before packing it away properly anyway. It's a small inconvenience rather than anything wrong with how the umbrella works. Overall, this has been a worthwhile purchase. It gives me the coverage I wanted, has handled my usual conditions well, and still makes sense to carry every day. I may add some pictures later, since seeing it open and folded beside ordinary things would have helped me judge the size before buying.

Easily my favourite umbrella now.

Easily my favourite umbrella now. The button makes it simple to open and collapse the canopy. Wish more were this straightforward. It feels solid, though I'll have to see how it wears. I'm a small woman and don't find it awkward to carry. The nice look and ease of use won me over.

Very happy to have this Umbrella with us.

I bring this along on walks when the sky looks doubtful, folds down nicely so it isn't awkward to carry. My partner uses a walking aid and we can tuck in close together under it when rain starts. Feels quite sturdy without being tiring to hold. Also makes Good Shade when we end up somewhere with no trees. Very happy to have this Umbrella with us.

Handy umbrella for the car.

Handy umbrella for the car. My wife keeps hers in the driver's door compartment, where it fits without getting underfoot or rolling about. That means it's there when she needs it instead of forgotten somewhere else. I was surprised by how much cover it gives once opened, considering how neatly it stores away. A good buy.

Frederick Pruitt

The main compromise for me is size and weight.

The main compromise for me is size and weight. It folds up, of course, but it's not the tiny, almost weightless umbrella you can forget is in your bag. That said, those little ones have me constantly worrying about them folding backwards when autumn & winter rain gets going. With this one I feel much more relaxed, and the canopy gives enough cover that I can actually walk rather than keep adjusting it to chase the rain. The cream white also looks cheerful against a grey sky without being a loud pattern. I keep it high enough to see ahead, especially around other people with umbrellas, which is worth remembering on busy pavements. Once I'm indoors I can fold it away rather than carry a long wet umbrella about. A bit more to carry, yes, but for the extra coverage & solid feel I think it's well worth it!

Jasmin Hickman

Picked this beige one to go with my sons football colors.

Picked this beige one to go with my sons football colors. I was after that shade rather than something that stood out too much. Been using it for months now and cant fault how its holding up. Good size for standing at those chilly wet games, and people keep admiring the color!! Glad I found it!!

Zachary Holmes

SO HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND THIS UMBRELLA.

SO HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND THIS UMBRELLA.I WORE OUT A SIMILAR ONE AND WANTED SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE JUST AS MUCH. THIS HAS BEEN OUT IN THE RAIN SEVERAL TIMES NOW AND HAS KEPT ME NICELY COVERED. IT FEELS SECURE TO HOLD AND HAS COPED WELL WHEN THE WIND PICKS UP. VERY PLEASED WITH MY CHOICE AND GLAD I LOOKED FOR ANOTHER.

Jaclyn Alvarado

Why isn't this sort of construction more common?

This has seen one rainy morning commute after another and still feels sturdy. Much more substantial than the usual umbrellas I have bought.I can't say how long it will last (hopefully years), but I don't feel like I'm carrying something flimsy. Why isn't this sort of construction more common?Anyway it makes the wet walk to work easier and that gets FIVE STARS from me!

Philip Galloway

It slips into the laptop bags I carry without a problem.

The open size is surprisingly generous considering how little space it takes up folded. It slips into the laptop bags I carry without a problem. The trade-off for that compactness seems to be the handle, which feels short in my hand. Probably fine compared with a regular umbrella, but the larger ones I've used have had a longer grip to hold securely when they catch the wind. When a gust gets under this one, I do have to pay more attention to keeping hold of it.

Cheryl Michael

Arrived in good condition.

Arrived in good condition. After two weeks and eight rounds of golf, I'm pleased with how useful this umbrella has been. I walk the course, and having some shade to carry with me makes the really hot days much more pleasant. It opens easily and is manageable to take along. I'd recommend it to anyone who finds walking in full sun hard going

Albert Farmer

A solid umbrella--a purchase I'm pleased with.

Still waiting for rain since this arrived, but I opened it up to have a good look and the quality seems excellent. The oval loop handle is particularly comfortable. I love the overall look and will be quite happy carrying it when the wet weather starts! A solid umbrella--a purchase I'm pleased with.

Elijah Morris

For the price, I consider it an excellent purchase.

My previous umbrella had been with me for something approaching twenty years, so replacing it felt rather disloyal. I had grown very accustomed to it. This new one, however, has proved a worthy successor. The button sends the canopy up promptly and makes opening it much less of a fiddle. A second press brings the canopy down, after which the telescoping section is compressed manually. It is a straightforward arrangement once understood, and the umbrella feels well made throughout. For the price, I consider it an excellent purchase.

Tyler Harding

the stem just needs pressing in afterwards.

Last year I bought one for my husband, and it's been so useful that I've ordered my own!!Easy to pop open, comfortable loop handle, and the frame feels well made for the price. The canopy folds with the button too; the stem just needs pressing in afterwards. We both keep ours in our bags now--handy and light enough for everyday carrying.I like the blue, although I'm usually more of a pattern person...still a very useful buy.

Eileen Houston

Happy with the compact size and feel for now.

First look out of the packaging and it is a bit lighter than I had imagined, but feels well put together so far. The opening action is quite positive and the canopy draws in smartly with another press. It was wrapped up snug, so I spent a little time undoing it before trying everything out. Haven't had it out in wind / rain yet, so there isn't much more I can say about that. Happy with the compact size and feel for now. A five at this stage.

Evelyn Tanner

Feels strong and looks good.

1. Small enough packed away.2. Feels strong and looks good.3. The handle is comfortable. My previous umbrella lasted around ten years and still works, just doesn't cover much. This one feels like a worthwhile replacement and I'm hoping for plenty of use from it.

Spencer Tyler

This felt more solid from the start.

I tried 2 0r 3 cheaper umbrellas before this one and never felt very confident in them. This felt more solid from the start. There's room for me and my girlfriend to squeeze under, but it still isn't awkward on a crowded street. It stores easily at my desk as well. I find the oval loop comfortable to hold and handy for hanging it up when I need both hands free. All in all it feels like a sensible umbrella for what I paid, and I'm glad I went for it.

Isaac Blake

That meant I didn't want to spend much over $25 on it.

Bought this for my husband's Father's Day present The frame feels solid and the button opens it easily, useful for keeping sun and rain off his bald head. I worried about the coverage, but there's room for him to take our toddler into daycare without either getting soaked. The green looks right and is a welcome change from the usual dark shades. The button folds the canopy but pushing the shaft back down takes a little effort. Umbrellas here either disappear or eventually get used as "light sabers", however much we try to stop it. That meant I didn't want to spend much over $25 on it.Price suited me fine, particularly with similar ones costing about double.

Benjamin Cunningham

At around 40cm it needs a proper space in your bag.

More length when folded than I had pictured, but I'd rather keep the decent coverage than have something tiny. At around 40cm it needs a proper space in your bag. I recommend actually checking that length against the bag you plan on using, not just assuming compact means it fits in everything.

Heidi Guerrero

I'm pleased with this compact umbrella at the moment.

First impressions, lighter in the hand than I expected but seems well built so far. The opening action has a good firm feel, and pressing again draws the canopy in neatly. Folded down it's a manageable size, not an awkward thing to carry about. Haven't had it out in wind / rain yet, so this is only what I can say from looking it over. I'm pleased with this compact umbrella at the moment. Five stars for now, will see how it goes.

Adam Morse

Only had it a few weeks and already loved how pretty it was!

Only had it a few weeks and already loved how pretty it was! Packs down neatly but gives much more cover than you'd think. The canopy opens and folds in with a press, and no turning inside out so far. Unfortunately I left mine in a bar last night, entirely my doing. Another is on order now :) Must learn not to abandon nice umbrellas :P

Katherine Mendez

A surprisingly substantial piece of kit, very nicely put together.

A surprisingly substantial piece of kit, very nicely put together. Where I live in Santa Monica we get the occasional windy day, although rain is not all that frequent. Judging by the frame, this feels tougher than the umbrellas I've had before. Rain is what I wanted it for rather than shade, but I can easily see it being useful for either.
