Just a small thing, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

I spent a while reading reviews before choosing this one because I wanted something worth paying for. I'm glad I went with it! Once it's up there's a good amount of coverage, and getting it open was very straightforward. It feels nicely made too. I haven't given it five stars because it arrived with some dust on it...not quite the first impression I'd hoped for. A quick wipe sorted that out, and the umbrella itself has been good. Just a small thing, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

An earth scientist needs a practical umbrella too!

An earth scientist needs a practical umbrella too! I replaced my old faithful with this and like the solid construction without too much weight. Folded, it is easy to put away. The loop handle is a useful design detail, and it does a fine job keeping rain off.

Haven has made a GREAT umbrella!

Haven has made a GREAT umbrella! It feels solid and has handled the breezes I've used it in without a fuss! The loop handle is my favourite part. I can keep a comfortable grip when it's raining, then clip it to my bag when I need my hands for other things. Glad I chose this one, definitely recommended!!!

All this rain lately made getting two seem sensible -- glad I did.

Sturdy umbrella and looks smart - a few outings with it and people have already asked about it. The button opening is lovely, and another press folds the canopy, but pushing the shaft back down takes a firm shove. All this rain lately made getting two seem sensible -- glad I did. They have been getting plenty of use.

It feels sturdy and the blue is lovely.

Ordering an umbrella without holding it first made me a little hesitant; pictures don't tell you how the button feels or anything... No regrets here though! It feels sturdy and the blue is lovely. The handle is interesting too, a closed oval loop instead of the usual hook. Easier to appreciate in person than in a photo. Pleased I ordered it.

Good value and feels solid.

Good value and feels solid. Not especially heavy, although there's more weight to it than some compact umbrellas I've had. The frame looks well supported. Folding it up isn't the prettiest, but that doesn't bother me much. There is a useful amount of room underneath without it being a huge umbrella to carry. Happy with it and would recommend.

Sunlight is a real problem for me (not just being fussy about the heat), so portable shade is something I appreciate enormously! Even a walk to the mailbox or taking out the rubbish used to involve covering up from head to toe. Going somewhere nice was frustrating because all that covering messed up my hair and make-up before I even arrived. Having this umbrella over me makes those short outings much more comfortable. I still take my normal sun precautions, but it is wonderful not to feel quite so stuck inside. I open and close it several times on most days, and it has coped with that regular use really well. It isn't something I leave sitting by the door and forget about, it comes out with me. Such a simple thing, yet having shade right there when I need it has made an enormous difference to my day!

The umbrella looks nice and does a good job keeping rain off me.

The umbrella looks nice and does a good job keeping rain off me. I can hold it fairly low when I am on the phone, which helps when the weather is windy. So far I have taken it out around nine or ten times (living in Washington means plenty of chances!). The part I am less keen on is putting it away afterwards. The button is down at the handle and closes the canopy, so there is no reaching underneath to find a catch. That part is easy. It is pushing the shaft back down by hand that needs a firmer push than I expected, particularly when my hands are wet.I would prefer that last step to need less pressure. Nothing has stopped working, and I do appreciate having it fold down instead of carrying a long umbrella around. I will keep using it because it covers me well; I just need to allow a moment to reset it before trying to put it away.

Joan Murillo

This has been a very welcome replacement.

After watching the quality of my old umbrellas slide, I wanted something I could feel good about using again. This has been a very welcome replacement. It feels neatly finished, and the button is handy when I'm trying to get things into the back seat without getting soaked. One quibble: closing the fabric with the button doesn't retract the whole shaft. You push that down yourself. Nothing wrong with it, just an extra step when my hands are already full.

Haley Ward

Other then that its a very nice Umbrella.

I read automatic and expected the whole umbrella to shrink down with the button. It does close the canopy, but the telescoping part still needs pressing down by hand. Not quite a one handed job when I'm also carrying coffee. Other then that its a very nice Umbrella.

Marie Petty

Useful, though I had imagined it a little bigger.

Useful, though I had imagined it a little bigger. Then again it folds into something I can actually carry about without fuss, so the size makes sense. Blue looks a little different in person, as does the fabric, but I'm satisfied for what it cost. Will see how it lasts!

Emma Little

So far I'm pleased with how it looks and works.

It seems solid and opens out much larger than I expected. Two people can stand quite close under it, and it folds down neatly afterwards. There is some weight, so I think a child or older person might find it harder to carry. The button closes the fabric but you still have to push the telescoping part down, which takes a firm push. I haven't tried it in rain yet. So far I'm pleased with how it looks and works.

This umbrella has been an especially good find.

Costume accessories can get surprisingly expensive when I look in local shops, so I appreciate finding something that suits the budget as well as the colour and style needed. This umbrella has been an especially good find. The pink is accurate to the pictures, and the overall shape looks just right for our show. It has already been through three weeks of rehearsals and an eight-week run without looking the worse for it. I was interested in appearance first, but the construction has impressed me too. I'm delighted with how it has worked out and would happily buy another for a future production!!!

Norman Riddle

It has kept me dry.

Love having this when the rain is coming sideways and other umbrellas are being blown about. It has kept me dry. My one grumble is the firm push needed to reset the shaft afterwards. and when it's VERY gusty I have to hold on firmly, even though mine hasn't turned inside out.

it is a good one nice and compact slips in da bag easy only thing is the sleeve is a little snug so you gotta fold it tidy before putting it away not a big problem we just dont bother every time but da umbrella itself feels solid button opens it quick and closes the top too so all good

Ethan Sweeney

I think this is going to be a very handy umbrella.

Here in Florida we get plenty of rain, and my husband is fussy about umbrellas feeling properly supported. The flexible ribs on this one won him over. It's a useful size over me without being a huge thing to carry. I haven't put it through a tropical downpour yet, but it feels reassuring in ordinary rain. I think this is going to be a very handy umbrella.

Justin Warren

Nice looking umbrella, people notice it.

Mine was a gift about two years back and the green still makes me smile. Nice looking umbrella, people notice it. The grandchildren are forever borrowing it so it has certainly not spent its life tucked away. It looks a bit used now, which is hardly surprising with all the handling it gets. Still handy to take out and I appreciate how quickly it opens when we need it. Would def choose another, then I might actually keep one for myself and let the grand kids carry on with this one!!

Sonia Mayo

The button is really handy too.

The whole thing feels substantial and there's lots of space under it for me. Two people would have to stay close, but the coverage is good. The button is really handy too. Press it to open, press again to fold the canopy, then push the shaft down until it clicks into place. I didn't get that last part straight away for some reason, I thought the button would shorten everything as well. Once I figured it out, no problem. It does have more weight to it than the pictures suggest. But yeah, it's a sturdy, nice looking umbrella and pretty convenient to use. I'd happily buy this one again!

Brendan Riley

My shoulders stay dry, which isn't always my experience.

Used this through plenty of wet days in the Caribbean and it has been a dependable umbrella. Its not the smallest when folded, but I'm tall and would rather have useful coverage than save every bit of bag space. My shoulders stay dry, which isn't always my experience.UPDATE: Five years later it has earned its keep. I'm ready for a fresh one and would happily choose the same again.

Kristina Boone

Good value for something we'll actually use!

My little dog would happily skip every rainy walk. Holding this a little lower gives him some cover too, which helps with the wet-dog objections. There's a useful amount of canopy without a great lump to carry, and the handle is pleasant to hold. Good value for something we'll actually use!

Michael Colon

The unusual handle has attracted a few looks....

I've been using mine several times a week on the walk to and from work for a few months, and it feels well put together. The cover can slide about a bit when I'm carrying it, so I tend to hold it near the end. Nothing serious considering how useful it is. The unusual handle has attracted a few looks....some approving, others a bit puzzled. It's not the tiniest thing folded, but I like the design enough that I don't mind. It's been a good buy!!

, not a huge pointed umbrella to negotiate on crowded streets).

For walking around the city, this is a sensible balance between coverage and something you can actually carry (i.e., not a huge pointed umbrella to negotiate on crowded streets). The folding design is much less awkward to stow away when the rain stops. This is an automatic model: the button opens it and also gathers the canopy when pressed again; the telescoping section is compressed manually. The beige fabric has a restrained, tidy appearance rather than a novelty look. Coverage: about 105 cm across when open, which gives me useful room without feeling enormous. Folded length is around 40 cm, so check your bag first. It comes with a sleeve that keeps the folded umbrella together for carrying.

Vanessa Ballard

It's been just right for that.

Mine was a birthday gift (in blue) as I needed something dependable that I could take along on my commute. It's been just right for that. Sits neatly in my bag, doesn't feel like a chore to carry, and a press with my thumb has it open when I step into the rain. My old umbrella gave me years of use and is still hanging on, although looking rather tired. I'm hoping this one will become the same sort of trusty companion!

Stacie Kirby

Arrived quickly too

You notice the solid feel as soon as you pick it up — nothing flimsy about it. Opening is smooth, and it's coped nicely with the wet, breezy days I've used it on. The blue looks smart without shouting for attention, which is exactly what I wanted. Good coverage when it's up, then it folds into something I don't mind carrying. A practical purchase, but a nicer one than I expected an umbrella to be. Arrived quickly too

This has turned out to be a solid choice.

This has turned out to be a solid choice. The construction gives a good first impression, and it folds to a manageable size without being heavy to carry. Automatic opening and canopy closing make it handy to use as well. Nice straightforward look. I'm satisfied with it.

Faith Bush

My sturdy old umbrellas have tended to be rather heavy.

Walking is generally my first choice for getting anywhere I can reasonably reach on foot. My usual journey to work and back adds up to several miles, and business trips mean I am often taking an umbrella along as well. Something that copes with wind matters to me. This one has managed the rainy days I've used it on without any fuss. I haven't tested it in really fierce weather, so I can't say how it would fare then. That is part of why I like it, but the bigger thing is how little it feels like I'm carrying. My sturdy old umbrellas have tended to be rather heavy. Add shopping bags and all the other things I somehow end up carrying, and you notice every bit of that weight. This Haven has a lot of flexible ribs, yet doesn't feel like a great lump in my hand. It almost seems too light to be much use until you actually put it up in the rain. It is an easy thing to put in a suitcase, too -- I'm not worrying that adding an umbrella is going to tip the luggage scales against me. Do bear in mind that the canopy is about 105cm across, so this is a compact umbrella rather than a huge shelter. Handy to pack and take along when the forecast is uncertain. For a lengthy walk in a real downpour, I would probably choose something larger. A larger one is still on my list, but for everyday use this seems quite reasonably priced. My one wish would be a livelier look. The Blue is perfectly nice, just a little quieter than my ideal rainy-day colour. Cheerful colours lift my mood, and walking around town I also like being easier for drivers to notice when the weather is murky. A really bright blue or a floral pattern would suit me very well. Maybe a floral version someday, Haven?

Delivery was quick.

From looking it over, the quality appears good and what I received is in line with the description. I have not used it in rain yet, so this is only my first impression, but I am satisfied with it. If it performs as it looks, I would consider another when necessary. Delivery was quick. There was no need for any messages to the seller, so I cannot really judge that part.

Travis Lam

Easily the umbrella I reach for now.

At last, one that doesn't fight me every time there's a gust. Easily the umbrella I reach for now. The loop handle feels comfortable and the sleeve is handy for putting it away. My mother spotted mine and immediately wanted one herself. I ordered hers pretty quickly, because otherwise I knew my own umbrella would end up on a very long "loan".

Clayton Odom

a good umbrella for your everyday running about!

Right....I like a decent umbrella....and this one is a good size over me....doesn't leave me dragging a huge folded thing around either....i've been happy each time I've needed it....not much more to say really....a good umbrella for your everyday running about!

Feels like I've got a little of my life back with this umbrella.

Feels like I've got a little of my life back with this umbrella. Developing a sun allergy has been hard to adjust to, I've always been an outdoors sort of woman. Having some shade means I can get out and enjoy that part of life again. It's sturdy, no problems with it so far, and it does a good job in rain as well. Lovely to look at, and opening and closing the canopy is quick, which I appreciate.

Drew Meza

I was impressed with how solid it felt when I opened it.

I bought this after starting a job in the city, where there is a walk between the train and my office. Needed something useful but didn't want a completely dull looking umbrella. The green suited me nicely.I was impressed with how solid it felt when I opened it. Its first outing turned out to be in really unpleasant rain, with the wind pushing it about as well. Holding on was a job, but the canopy kept its shape and my jacket and shoulders stayed dry. A few people around me were having a much harder time with theirs. I got to the meeting with damp trouser legs rather than looking as if I had fallen into water. Not bad at all for what it cost.

Guy Kelley

Happy to recommend it to anyone fed up with flimsy umbrellas.

I had been through enough inexpensive umbrellas that buying another of the same sort no longer seemed much of a saving. Spent some time reading about construction before settling on this one. What mattered was a decent frame and something I would actually carry rather than leave at home. So far I have been very satisfied. It feels substantial when open, with useful coverage without needing a full size golf umbrella. The oval loop handle is comfortable, not a traditional hook. I appreciate the button operation too. It opens quickly, and another press draws the canopy in; you push the shaft down yourself afterwards. Straightforward when you know what to expect. Not the smallest umbrella to carry, but a reasonable trade off for the solid feel. I would still compare prices before buying, as I did, but the quality here makes sense to me. It would make a useful gift as well. Happy to recommend it to anyone fed up with flimsy umbrellas.

At her birthday party our granddaughter had all sorts of toys to open, yet this umbrella was the one thing she kept carrying around. Her little "brella" from Grandma and Grandpa (that's us) was a huge hit. We spent a bit more than we normally would on an umbrella, but seeing her so delighted with it made that seem unimportant.

Chelsey Fisher

Pleased with how it's handled ordinary family use.

We all had a look when this arrived, mostly to see how much umbrella came out of the folded size. It's a useful amount of cover for one person and doesn't feel awkward to carry. It gets used regularly on the walk with the kids to the bus. If somebody has forgotten theirs we can squeeze together for a short stretch, although it isn't a huge shelter. The ribs seem to have a useful bit of flex. We caught it against a pole quite hard once and they gave rather than feeling rigid. Everything was still sitting properly afterwards, so we carried on. Pleased with how it's handled ordinary family use.

Just received my umbrella and I'm very Impressed with the finish.

Just received my umbrella and I'm very Impressed with the finish. It looks smart and the construction feels good. This is my first one of these and I'm pleased with it.I spent so long trying to make up my mind that I ended up buying two umbrellas rather than one.

Nina Farrell

Now I'm waiting for rain so I can take it out properly.

Seeing a lady walking through the rain with a nice umbrella made me realize how much I wanted a decent one myself. I'm glad I ordered this. It's attractive without being fussy, and seems sturdy enough for the weather here in New England. Now I'm waiting for rain so I can take it out properly. One thing to remember if you're buying: it folds up, but it's not one of those tiny, weightless umbrellas. There's a bit of heft to it.

Carmen Ruiz

The actual umbrella is much more convincing.

I like most things about this umbrella, but I am not completely sold on the beige. It's one of those shades I look at twice because it seems warmer in one light and rather dull in another. Not a terrible color, just not quite what I pictured. A less muted shade would have suited me better, which is where the missing star went. The actual umbrella is much more convincing. Underneath there are lots of ribs and the whole thing looks nicely put together, with a good amount of shade when it's open. I *love* how quickly it opens with the button. Now if the weather would cooperate. I'm in western Oregon, so everybody assumes I spend my life in rain. Somehow in the months I've had this, I keep finding myself without a reason to bring it out. Most of its opening and closing has been me showing somebody how it works in the house. I'd like a proper rainy day to try it instead of another little demonstration!

Gordon Gamble

A very good choice for her!!!

My little sister is working in Japan and walks to the school...so this gets plenty of use in the rainy season!!! I chose gray for her and she says it is easy to carry, not another huge thing to drag along. We both live overseas, me in Italy, so I like knowing she has something useful. She says the frame feels strong and has stayed in shape on those wet walks. It opens quickly with the button and she can hold it up high enough to see ahead...which matters when walking to work! A very good choice for her!!!

Gavin Navarro

It's comfortable to carry, looks smart and has stayed in great shape.

A couple of weeks isn't a long test, but this has already been out in rain and wind plenty of times. Those little ribs seem tougher than they look. It's comfortable to carry, looks smart and has stayed in great shape. Usually my cheap umbrellas are looking sorry for themselves by now. This still looks like I've just unpacked it.

I'm not suggesting anyone test it by chucking it about, but my wife has used this quite a few times and it is still doing fine. Umbrellas don't generally survive me for long, so the quality at this price was a pleasant surprise. It looks like the pictures and the size is sensible (not made to seem enormous by a clever camera angle). The canopy is neatly finished around the edges, and the whole thing looks nicer in person than I expected.

Kenneth Bolton

A dependable umbrella to have in the work bag.

A dependable umbrella to have in the work bag. It folds down neatly, opens without a struggle and feels solid in use. I've found it fine in normal windy rain, though I still face it towards the weather rather than asking it to perform miracles. Any umbrella has its limits so a bit of sense helps. Most days I forget it's in there.Price is my only hesitation, a little higher than I'd usually pay.

Traci Meyers

Love having it!

Sunshade was my reason for buying it, since I burn easily. Didn't have especially high hopes, but it's been a lovely surprise. The pink canopy gives me comfortable shade and has stayed neat through use. It has coped with breezy days, the ribs feel flexible rather than flimsy, and nothing feels rough in my hand. Still packs down tidily after being used. Love having it!

Alexander Mccall

A good practical umbrella with a couple of small compromises.

There is a pleasing solidity to this umbrella when you hold it. Folded, it looks tidy, and the canopy has a clean outline when it is open. The oval loop handle is a useful idea; I do find the shape slightly less comfortable over a long walk than a more straightforward grip. It is also not the smallest folded umbrella, so I wouldn't choose it expecting to tuck it into a little pocket. Neither point is a serious drawback for my use. The flexible ribs give the canopy a reassuring feel, without making it look clumsy. The canopy is the part I appreciate most: it gives good cover, and a shake gets rid of the worst of the drips before I carry it indoors. It still needs to be left out to dry rather than packed away wet. A good practical umbrella with a couple of small compromises.

Heather Herrera

My umbrella arrived in good shape.

My umbrella arrived in good shape. The gray outside is as pictured and the underside is black. There is a fabric sleeve for storing it when dry. It is quite compact to carry, not too heavy, and the quality seems good. I use it for shade from the sun, and have been satisfied with it for that purpose. I have not used it in rain or wind yet, so I cannot say how it performs in those conditions. I recommend it.

The green umbrella has turned out to be a purchase i am very pleased with. Its simple design looks smart, and the colour is easy to pair with my clothes. The whole thing feels well put together, including when I have used it through heavy rain and windy weather. Opening it and closing the canopy with the button has been smooth each time. I particularly like how comfortable the handle is, as holding it for a longer stretch doesn't bother my hand. Both the fabric and frame seem durable, and most importantly I have stayed dry beneath it. It does everything I hoped it would and i would recommend it as a reliable everyday umbrella.

Lonnie Huber

Keeping a good hold is more on my mind than the umbrella itself.

I've had two of these umbrella's for years and they're still the ones I reach for. Seen other people's canopies turn inside out while mine stayed put, makes you want to tell them what to get. Mine haven't flipped on me in the wet & windy weather I've been out in. Keeping a good hold is more on my mind than the umbrella itself.

Luke Carney

Under the canopy I was comfortably dry.

I'd had this umbrella sitting ready for a while before I actually needed it earlier this week. Most days I cycle to work, but the forecast was enough to put me off that idea--rain, gusty wind and the possibility of sleet. The bike stayed at home and I decided to walk. A fairly good opportunity to find out whether this umbrella was worth buying, although I would have preferred a less wet introduction! I wasn't completely confident about it beforehand. I'd spent quite a while reading reviews, and it's easy to start wondering whether a compact umbrella will really cope once you're out in the weather rather than just opening it in the house. In use, though, I had nothing to worry about. There was steady rain, a spell of sleet, and wind that made the walk rather less pleasant than usual. Under the canopy I was comfortably dry. At the more exposed parts of the route I used both hands to keep a firm grip. That was more about not wanting the wind to pull it away from me than anything wrong with the handle. The canopy moved about, of course, but it didn't turn inside out. I was half expecting that to happen whenever I came around a corner! Looking up underneath it, you can see all the ribs supporting the fabric. There was some flex when the wind caught it, rather than everything feeling completely rigid, and it settled back into shape afterwards. By the time I reached work, roughly a mile and a half away, I was feeling rather pleased with my decision. I'd passed several people wrestling with their umbrellas, so arriving without wet hair felt like a small victory. Not a particularly glamorous test, but a useful one. Appearance-wise, I like it more than I expected, too. Green wouldn't normally be my first choice, but I find this one quite understated rather than distracting. The oval loop handle looks neat and gives me something secure to grip. It isn't the traditional hooked style, which took a moment to get used to, but I like it. And the opening button is genuinely handy; getting the canopy up quickly when you're stepping into rain makes a difference. For me, this earns its five stars. After all that reading and wondering beforehand, the actual walk answered my questions. On the way home I was already thinking that I ought to write something about it, because it had made a miserable weather day considerably easier.

Gordon Hayden

Not worth the hassle of returning it so I'm keeping it.

as I said in the heading, the gray is a bit plainer than I pictured. Not worth the hassle of returning it so I'm keeping it. i haven't had it out in the rain yet, can't really say much about that part but it seems decent. I'll just have to put up with the jokes about my very sensible umbrella.

Krystal Hamilton

The pink looks as nice in person as it did in the photo.

The pink looks as nice in person as it did in the photo. A cute umbrella, and it folds up neatly too. I especially like using the same button to put it up and draw the canopy closed, then pressing the stem down to pack it away. I wouldn't push my luck in a really fierce gust, but for the rain I need it for I've been very happy.

Dave Matthews

I am far too fond of this thing!!!

Never imagined an umbrella could become my favourite rainy day companion, yet here we are! One press and it opens like it has been waiting all day to look after me! Closing it feels almost rude, honestly I leave it up indoors and let bad luck take its chances. Who needs company when this magnificent little rain roof is here, even watching a film is improved by its presence. I am far too fond of this thing!!! Best company ever!!
