After too many folding umbrellas that barely sheltered my shoulders, I wanted something that could actually cover me and still go in my bag. This one gets that balance right. The button pops it open and brings the canopy shut again, which was also on my wish list. It feels solid and gives me proper room underneath rather than a tiny roof. Couldn't be happier with this choice!

Good coverage, and it folds to a size I can actually take along.
Good coverage, and it folds to a size I can actually take along. Having a button to open it and close the canopy is handy. Only a few weeks of use so far, so I can't judge years of wear, but it feels solid and the mechanism is working smoothly. A sensible choice if you just want a decent everyday umbrella.
Ebony Jordan
Useful for rainy rounds of golf and straightforward to operate.
Useful for rainy rounds of golf and straightforward to operate. I've taken it out around twenty times now and it still feels sound. No experience with really strong winds, so I can't say how it would cope there. For the ordinary wet weather I've had, it's done well.

I managed to lose the folding umbrella I'd carried for years.
I managed to lose the folding umbrella I'd carried for years. It had a nice wide canopy and a button, and I was convinced I'd never find another I liked as much. I spent quite a while trying to track down something similar before taking a chance on this one. Well, losing the old one wasn't such a disaster after all! This packs away much more neatly (a little thicker through the middle, perhaps, but shorter, so it goes into my backpack instead of poking out at the top. Opened up, there's still the coverage I wanted. The frame feels substantial without making it a burden to carry. The button opens the canopy and pulls it closed again; pushing the telescoping shaft in afterwards is straightforward. Another thing I didn't expect to care about was the oval loop handle. It sits comfortably in my hand, rather than making me keep shifting my grip. For what I paid, this feels like a very worthwhile replacement. Funny how something I was annoyed about losing has ended with me preferring the new one.

It's shorter than a full length umbrella, but not a tiny pocket one.
The umbrella looked good and seemed nicely put together when it arrived. I ended up sending it back because I'd assumed compact meant it would fit in the little space left in my school bag. My mistake, I should have checked the folded size. It's shorter than a full length umbrella, but not a tiny pocket one. Fine for carrying on its own, just not what I needed for school.

It is a bit weighty.
Last fall I spent two weeks away from Arizona, first at a work conference in New York City and then with friends in Orlando. Between the rain in New York and the sun in Florida, I realised how useful it is to have an umbrella for more than just showers. The beige one makes me smile when I put it up, and I appreciate having some shade as well as rain cover. It's a substantial umbrella, a little bigger folded than the tiny one I used before, but it still goes in my purse. It is a bit weighty. The part that cost it a star is getting used to closing and opening again. Pressing the button folds the canopy, but I then have to push the telescoping section all the way in before it is ready to open again. If I just want to get through a gate or squeeze past people, that extra step is fiddly. Nothing wrong with it, just something I had to learn.
Jared Collins
A good umbrella so far!
A good umbrella so far! The button makes opening it simple when I'm out with my push cart. I thought packing it away would be a nuisance, but the fabric gathers up neatly once it's closed. Best of all--I can actually slide it into its sleeve again and tuck it in my golf bag. Feels like something I'll keep using.

Less awkward than handling a long umbrella beside the car.
The umbrellas I kept replacing seemed to get less substantial each time, so I decided to try something different. This has been a welcome change. The frame feels solid and it folds into a manageable package, which helps when I'm getting things out of the back seat in the rain. Less awkward than handling a long umbrella beside the car. Only reservation: I would prefer it a little shorter folded. It's manageable, but not one of those tiny pocket umbrellas.
Candice Hansen
A practical umbrella to take along.
The sleeve is what makes this particularly handy for travelling. it's usually a nuisance getting a used umbrella neatly packed again, and I appreciate having a cover to slip over it. Once it's wrapped up, the whole thing fits nicely in my bag. A practical umbrella to take along.
Joanna Clarke
My aunt has been delighted with this.
My aunt has been delighted with this. She brought it along on our recent vacation and kept saying how much nicer it was to have some shade when we were out in the sun for a while. She has only had it a short time so I don't know how it'll last, but for shade and keeping a shower off her it's been a success so far!
Jenna Stone
BUT this is NOT something I'd hold carelessly when the wind picks up.
Standing in its shade on a sunny day is a lot nicer than being out in the open. I mainly use it for that, rather than rain, and it makes a noticeable difference. BUT this is NOT something I'd hold carelessly when the wind picks up. I still have to angle it and keep a firm grip instead of expecting it to do everything. For the shade I originally wanted, though, I'm happy with it and have bought a second one.
Susan Rocha
A little expensive for an umbrella, but one I would prefer to keep.
I enjoy the tidy exterior and the almost vaulted look of the ribs when it opens. The fabric sheds rain well and it hasn't flipped over in the wind I've encountered. I have a bad habit of lending umbrellas to friends (there were once more than ten in my collection!), so I'd advise keeping an eye on this one. A little expensive for an umbrella, but one I would prefer to keep.

A useful umbrella for making rainy evenings simpler [and less soggy].
Everything was as I'd hoped, and learning the closing routine was easier than the comments had led me to believe. It wasn't difficult. The button collapses the canopy, then I shorten the shaft manually. A useful umbrella for making rainy evenings simpler [and less soggy].
Phillip Foley
For what I paid I think it's a little expensive.
The umbrella is nice, but I expected the stem to retract automatically too. The canopy closes fine; the rest is manual. For what I paid I think it's a little expensive. Might have found something cheaper if I'd looked longer.
Jenna Dixon
Nice to buy something that actually gets used.
I picked this out for my boyfriend because I wanted a green umbrella he'd actually want to carry. He is particular about colours and I didn't fancy spending a fortune just to get one he liked. After a bit of looking this seemed a good price, and the colour was right. He uses it a lot, as living in the Sunshine State means plenty of showers as well as sunshine. Still mentions how useful it is when it rains. Nice to buy something that actually gets used.
Brittney Waller
Seems a good purchase for what I paid.
Seems a good purchase for what I paid. The umbrella itself feels better quality than I was expecting. Packaging was rather thin, so I was relieved there was no damage when I opened it. Cheap purchases can be a gamble and I've had disappointments before, but this time I think I did well. Would recommend this one.
Nancy Pittman
A very satisfactory purchase.
The beige colour first caught my eye, although I did wonder whether the quality would be as good as it looked. After using it, I feel comfortable recommending it. It has the solid feel I wanted in a replacement for an umbrella I'd kept for many years. A very satisfactory purchase.
Brianna Mason
Def worth a look.
Put it to work during that long wet spell in New York last weekend. I was outside for most of my shift and it kept me dry without much fuss. A little weight to carry by the end, but it held up well. Coworkers said it looked 'too smart' for work. I'm choosing to hear that as envy, because they seemed pretty interested in it. Def worth a look.

My kindergartners are very taken with this umbrella.
My kindergartners are very taken with this umbrella. It gives them room underneath without us feeling like we're taking over the pavement. We haven't had any pinched fingers or quality troubles. They hold it high enough to see ahead. I thought the simple style might be a bit grown up for them, since they're quite particular these days, but they both like it.
Harry Browning
Brilliant shade umbrella!
Brilliant shade umbrella! Being underneath feels so much more comfortable than having the sun beating straight down. It's a little like finding a patch of tree shade that comes along with you. Mine has stayed steady on breezy days too. For the sun or a shower, it's something I don't want to leave behind!
Pam Hester
An elegant umbrella with a tidy finish.
An elegant umbrella with a tidy finish. Looks beautiful and feels sturdy. There is a plain sleeve for storing it too. It went so well with my outfit. Someone commented that they would have chosen a different colour, but the cream white is exactly what I wanted. I wouldn't change it.
Kyle Mcclure
This did the job.
Bought this for my wife mainly because she wanted an umbrella that looked nice. This did the job. She's pleased with how it looks, though the important part for her is staying dry when its raining, ordinary rain anyway, not when its coming in sideways. Will likely get her another like it sometime, just in a different colour.
Nathan Bolton
Received it fine.
Received it fine. Pushing the rod all the way in after the canopy closes needs more force than I thought.
There seems to be some spring pressure inside, and the moving parts look nicely finished overall. I worry a little about moisture in there, so it gets dried before packing away. Satisfied with it.
Rose Campos
Good umbrella, just worth checking the folded size first.
Seems well made, and my daughter-in-law was pleased with her gift. I did picture something smaller when I read compact, though. She wanted an umbrella for her purse, and this needs a roomy one rather than a little everyday bag. Good umbrella, just worth checking the folded size first.
Andrea Kidd
The frame feels solid.
Handles the rain well and opens at a press without much fuss. The frame feels solid. Two years on, my only niggle is the weight when it's in my bag. A friend can squeeze alongside me under it for a shower, which is useful. I'd consider another when the time comes to replace this one.
Marissa Sherman
Pleased with this umbrella so far.
December 22, 2010
Pleased with this umbrella so far. The frame seems sturdy and it handled the windy rain nicely. That automatic button is great! Goes in my purse folded down, yet covers me properly once open.Would get another if I ever need one.
***UPDATE***
March 28, 2011 and I'm still happy with it. Nothing dramatic to report, which is a good thing. It doesn't rain much where I live in California so I've probably used it seven to ten times these past three months. Still opening easily and keeping me dry. =) I was wondering how it would hold up after a few uses and so far so good. I'll come back if anything changes.

Understated, distinctive and worth the money.
What a delight for my steampunk, gothic side. Even as a decoration in the room this umbrella catches the eye, and it has that quietly ladylike feel I love. Understated, distinctive and worth the money.P.S. If you haven't explored that world in fiction, have a look at some steampunk novels. A lovely place to lose yourself for a while [...]

Opening it is straightforward and it packs down reasonably small.
So far I've only had light rain and a bit of breeze to use this in. It has kept my upper half dry, but my legs still get wet when the rain blows sideways. I probably wanted something bigger. The loop handle is handy to carry, though not my favorite shape to hold for a long walk. Opening it is straightforward and it packs down reasonably small. It works as a compact umbrella, just not quite the all over coverage I was hoping for.
Wesley Beasley
The gray looks good and the construction seems decent also.
There is room for two standing close, although I prefer the space for myself. Not the tiniest thing when folded, so consider how much room you want to give it. The gray looks good and the construction seems decent also. Only gripe is getting all the fabric folded up nice and tidy again, better leave it open to dry before putting away
Whitney Lyons
Happy enough with it for what I paid.
Bought it for those sudden showers, although the folded size is more than I had pictured. My usual bag won't really take it, so I've been clipping the handle around a bag strap instead. The finish isn't anything special, but it keeps me dry and I think it's reasonable value. Happy enough with it for what I paid.
Megan Santos
More substantial than the little umbrellas I've used before.
More substantial than the little umbrellas I've used before. Opens at a press and the canopy closes just as readily. Folded up, it stays in my bag for rainy days in Pittsburgh. Essentially a roof you can carry around. Not much else needed. I'd rather spend on something solid than keep replacing flimsy ones. I've now bought them for the rest of the family.
Leon Hanna
Looks like the picture and feels nice in person.
Looks like the picture and feels nice in person. My son turned 5 recently and has wanted his own umbrella for ages. It lives beside his seat in the car ready for rain. He loves having it there and can manage the opening button himself. Came packed nicely and reached us when expected, so no complaints from me.
Diana Joseph
My daughter asked for an umbrella with plenty of cover - this…
My daughter asked for an umbrella with plenty of cover - this looked a useful size. When it opened I thought - that's bigger than I pictured - and she was keen to keep it.The canopy gives her room but it folds shorter rather than having a long stick handle - not too heavy either, very nice looking and I think worth what I paid.
Bill Ramirez
For the money I think it is worth having.
I liked the look of it but I thought the fabric might feel a little thicker. I bought it for shade and it does help when the sun is out, so it isn't just a pretty thing to carry. For the money I think it is worth having. I would still use my usual sun protection with it, since having some shade is not the same as being completely covered
Roger Anderson
The price was reasonable and it arrived promptly.
Finding a replacement I actually liked was a relief! My previous umbrella had been with me for twenty years and was coming to pieces, and I didn't want to lose that familiar simple style. This one has the look and folding design I wanted. The price was reasonable and it arrived promptly. Glad the whole purchase went so smoothly and would happily buy another when needed.

My reason for 5 stars:Wanted a folding umbrella with a sturdy feel.
My reason for 5 stars:Wanted a folding umbrella with a sturdy feel. What works/doesn't:It feels solid and the canopy gives more cover than I expected from a compact. The button is handy. Ifyou have wrist problems, the weight might make it less comfortable to hold for a long spell. That substantial feeling suits me fine.Who it suits:Anyone after an everyday umbrella who prefers a bit of strength over the very lightest weight.

Salute the flag, then salute this umbrella.
Salute the flag, then salute this umbrella. Solidly built and ready for the noble duty of keeping my head dry. Carry it proudly - friends and coworkers may question whether they deserve such magnificent shade. No speeches required, just a button and a little patriotic swagger. Rain can file its complaints elsewhere. America has important strolling to do.
Charlotte Rodgers
What a tough little umbrella this is!
What a tough little umbrella this is! Wind and rain used to mean wrestling with something that felt ready to fly away. This one feels SO much more solid, and I can actually hold it without worrying every second. A big step up from the flimsy umbrellas I've had before!! Money well spent, absolutely no regrets here!!
Kristy Booker
ABSOLUTELY worth what I paid.
Heard an enthusiastic review of this on the news, which persuaded me to try one. After using mine....ABSOLUTELY worth what I paid. There hasn't been any trouble with it AT ALL. It's coped with the breezy rainy days I've used it on and I'm still using the same one a year or so later. Now I'm thinking two spares would be sensible, because one umbrella never seems to be where I need it! :-)
Tasha Hull
Coverage is about right for one person on city streets.
I bought a pair so I can keep one at work and the other at home. The construction feels decent and they have a neat, simple appearance. Coverage is about right for one person on city streets. Not something I'd choose for sharing, but useful for my daily needs.
Antonio King
This one is light weight and comfortable to hold.
I went through a lot of reviews before settling on this umbrella. My skin is very fair so I am careful about direct sun. I go to work on foot and being a teacher means I spend time outdoors during the day as well. This one is light weight and comfortable to hold. The handle is an oval loop, handy for holding onto when the umbrella is folded. Some reviews had said it was difficult to close. After using mine a few days I found pointing it down before pressing the button made things easier. The button brings the canopy in, then you press the shaft back into the handle by hand. If I don't point it down, I can still press the button and then hold the top while pushing it together. That is the part you do yourself to reset it.The green canopy has a black underside, and it feels cooler to me underneath it. It's only been a few days of use but I'm really happy with it so far.
Albert Mcguire
Proper rain with a few gusts and I stayed dry.
Only had one chance to use it so far and the weather was not being kind. Proper rain with a few gusts and I stayed dry.It seems solidly put together and I wasn't spending the whole time worrying about the frame. Usually wind makes me nervous with an umbrella so that was nice. The button was easy to work, no catching my fingers when I opened it.The size suits me well. Covers me without being so wide that I am forever getting in everyone's way on the pavement. Walking among other umbrellas is manageable too.For mums: if you have your baby carried close against you, I think the canopy would give useful cover over both of you. Still watch the rain coming from the sides of course. It looks nice and I can see where I'm going by holding it at the right height!A very good first use and I would happily choose this one again.
Christopher Sexton
There's a nice amount of cover overhead too.
The button is handy when I'm hopping on and off the train in the morning with a coffee in my other hand. There's a nice amount of cover overhead too. Doesn't fold quite as small as I'd hoped, though my everyday purse has plenty of room for it... And the pink looks so cute!
Bryce Fritz
The cream white looks good and its easy to hold.
Ive seen people question how comfortable this sort of handle is. No issue for me. The cream white looks good and its easy to hold. We get alot of rain where I live, sometimes with wind. I was walking when a gust caught it and the ribs flexed a little, then went back. Nothing to fuss about!! That felt like a decent test. People notice the oval handle and ask about it, they are so used to curved ones I think. Funny really.
Ariana Deleon
From using it, I would recommend it.
I spent a fair amount of time comparing umbrellas before deciding on this one after reading the reviews. It has been a good choice. It came carefully packed, and both the handle and opening mechanism have a reassuring, substantial feel. The appearance is simple and classic, which I prefer. My wife and I also managed to stay dry under it during a heavy shower. That matters more to me than the appearance. From using it, I would recommend it.

Overall she is delighted and it turned out to be a very good gift.
Bought this as a present for a friend and she loves the look of it and says the materials feel good too. She has used it a couple of times, and did mention needing a bit of strength for pushing the pole back down. The canopy closes with the button, it is just the telescoping part that you finish by hand. She really likes that same button for opening it as well. Getting in the car in rain is inconvinient enough without trying to gather an umbrella with both hands, so she was especially pleased with that part. She keeps mentioning how nice it looks and how easy the canopy is to bring down. Overall she is delighted and it turned out to be a very good gift.

Apparently an umbrella can be a good present after all.
Our grandson is one of those teenagers you can never think what to buy for. When his mom suggested an umbrella we thought she was joking. He's a lovely lad, just has his own slightly "different" taste, so we figured why not give it a go. Well, he was thrilled!! Apparently an umbrella can be a good present after all. He carries it around in the sleeve that came with it. A teenage gift success!
Douglas Hawkins
My son is delighted with his umbrella.
My son is delighted with his umbrella. It looks really cute when he carries it, and there's no persuading him to take it out in the rain. The harder part is convincing him that it needs to be folded up and put away afterwards. The frame feels decent for a folding umbrella. It has been out roughly ten times now and we haven't had any problems with it.
Gabriela Sanders
The oval loop handle is a little different, in a good way.
Can we stop treating umbrellas as something that need a gender? I'm a woman. I need to stay dry. So does everybody else. Anyway, on to the actual umbrella, which I like a lot. Folded, it's a sensible size for my backpack or a roomy purse. Not a tiny evening bag, obviously. It comes with a sleeve, so there's somewhere to put it once it's dry and folded. The button pops it open smartly and brings the canopy back in again. You do still push the shaft down yourself, which is straightforward. I like the solid feel of the frame; nothing about it makes me think of those flimsy emergency umbrellas. The oval loop handle is a little different, in a good way. Open, there's comfortable coverage for me without carrying some enormous contraption along a crowded pavement. It is an umbrella for a person, not a portable roof for the entire household! That's a good thing when other people also want to use the sidewalk. I haven't put it through any extreme weather and don't plan to pretend I have. For normal rain, though, it's exactly the sort of useful, sturdy umbrella I wanted.
Monique Morton
Very handy to use and feels like a really good umbrella.
Quite a lot of cover for an umbrella that packs down this small. A press of the button sends it up and out, another press collapses the fabric (You still need to push the shaft in yourself to get it ready for next time). Very handy to use and feels like a really good umbrella.
