I'm tall and broad and the cover is enough for me in normal rain.

I work outdoors whatever the weather, so an umbrella actually gets used with me. This one has been a good replacement for the one I kept around for years. It feels substantial when it is open, but doesn't take up the space of a long umbrella once folded. I'm tall and broad and the cover is enough for me in normal rain. In a breeze I still have to hold it properly, it's not something you can forget you're carrying. A bit more room in the loop handle would suit my hands, although that's about the only thing I'd change. The button still works just as cleanly as when I started using it. I push the shaft back down after closing and it goes into my luggage easily. It will also sit at an angle in the car door pocket. For something I use often, there's very little to complain about.

For the money I'm really pleased with it.

I'd already been through 2 or 3 cheap umbrellas and was getting tired of replacing them. This one has been a much better buy, sturdy right from taking it out. Me and my girlfriend can get underneath if we stand close, but folded it doesn't take over my desk space. Walking with it along a busy street is manageable too. I also like the oval loop handle, it gives me a better grip than the skinny handles on my old ones. For the money I'm really pleased with it.

Good value if you need a dependable everyday way to stay dry.

With all the rain where I go to school, an umbrella has to earn its place in my bag. I wanted decent coverage without spending a fortune or carrying something huge around campus. This one has done the job for nearly a year now and I'm still using it regularly. The black fabric has picked up a few marks, which doesn't surprise me given the use, but it opens just as readily as when it was new. Good value if you need a dependable everyday way to stay dry.

Five years of living in NYC has made me fussy about umbrellas.

Five years of living in NYC has made me fussy about umbrellas. Rain so often comes with wind here, and the bargain compact ones never inspired much confidence. I eventually spent a bit more on this and haven't regretted it. It isn't the tiniest thing when folded, so don't expect it to disappear into a small pocket, but once open it feels reassuringly solid. I've carried it through plenty of wet, blustery walks without feeling that I had to nurse it along.I'm not particularly careful with it either. It gets shoved in a bag or tossed down when I get home, and the frame still opens neatly and the canopy gives me good cover. I want something I can actually use, not something I'm afraid of damaging. For me, a bit of extra bulk is a perfectly fair trade.

Much better coverage than the little travel umbrella I was using.

Much better coverage than the little travel umbrella I was using. After one particularly wet walk left my trousers soaked, I wanted something with a wider canopy, and this has been a BIG improvement. A bit more weight to carry, yes, but I'll take that trade. The oval handle is comfortable as well. I'd buy another without hesitation.

I'm pleased with it and would buy another!

I work in the city and leave the car about a five minute walk from my building. I've got a large golf umbrella, but I don't always want to carry that just for the possibility of a shower. This is much easier to bring along! Folded up it goes in my bag, then a press of the button gives me a proper sized canopy rather than a tiny emergency umbrella. There's enough cover for me and room for someone else if we stand close. The one thing I've noticed is that the open canopy can still catch a breeze and pull at your hand. That's not really a surprise, there's a fair area there to catch it. It seems sturdy and I haven't felt worried using it in normal rain, but you do still need to hold it properly when it's windy. For the walk between the car and work it's been exactly what I wanted. I'm pleased with it and would buy another!

Kristy Kramer

All in all a fair buy for the money.

The reason I wanted this was to keep both me and my work papers dry. I'm often juggling a briefcase or a bankers box, and a very small umbrella doesn't help much with that. This gives useful cover, provided I hold everything fairly close (I'm only a size 8 myself). It isn't an enormous canopy, so I wouldn't expect room to spare with a big box. Looks respectable and feels reasonably substantial. The storage sleeve is nothing special, but usable. All in all a fair buy for the money.

A handy folding umbrella for travelling.

A handy folding umbrella for travelling. Picked blue for last year's tropical trip and used it for shade in Nicaragua as well as showers in Honolulu. I left it open to dry overnight before smoothing the fabric back down and rolling it up for my tote. Didn't take over the bag! Comfortable cover for just me!

Janice Dawson

a good small umbrella...

hello, our little spare umbrella finally needed replacing after eight years. this has the same practical sort of feel, although only time will tell about lasting that long. press the button and up it goes...good...enough cover for the quick things we need it for. i wouldn't choose a compact umbrella for spending hours walking in rain. we already have bigger ones for that. this is for going out to the mailbox or giving the dog a quick trip outside. seems put together well without being a heavy thing to carry. the beige is a nice change and easy for us to spot. it folds up neatly and the sleeve is handy for storing it between uses. yrmv... a good small umbrella...mine arrived promptly...

A useful amount of cover for something that folds down this far.

A useful amount of cover for something that folds down this far. The blue is noticeable, which I prefer to a very dark umbrella on a grey day. Underneath is black, so the inside looks quite plain even with the brighter outside. The handle forms an oval loop with a carabiner gate, useful for attaching it to a bag rather than carrying it separately. A sleeve is included to keep it tidy in storage. Pressing the button opens the umbrella, and another press folds the canopy. The telescoping stem then has to be compressed manually. There are 30 flexible ribs supporting the cover, giving it a more substantial feel than I expected. Overall it is a practical arrangement for carrying around and using in rain.

Sophia Boyer

Does its job and keeps me dry!

Has felt dependable on windy rainy days. The canopy hasn't flipped on me and the frame feels well put together.I like the blue shade, too. It's smart enough to carry to work without looking fussy. The simple appearance is a big plus for me. Does its job and keeps me dry!

Jeremiah Wilcox

I've come around a bit with this one.

Back when I was at college beside one of the Great Lakes, a sudden gust caught a whole crowd crossing campus. Umbrellas seemed to turn inside out all at once, and the sight rather put me off buying them. For ages I figured a raincoat was the more sensible option. I've come around a bit with this one. It feels substantial, opens promptly, and the flexible ribs seem to give it a little give rather than feeling rigid. I've had it out on wet, blustery days and been glad of the cover, though I still hold it into the breeze. It's earned a place in the car instead of being left at home. (Might have to get another for the truck...)

Adrienne Hurley

For those conditions it's been great.

An umbrella isn't usually something I get excited about, but I genuinely like this one. In the past I've spent too much time wrestling with umbrellas that wouldn't cooperate, so having one that opens neatly is a relief. The automatic action is great, especially when I need to close the canopy quickly. I live somewhere that gets more rain than the sunshine reputation suggests, though I've only used this in showers and a gentle breeze, so I'm not making claims about serious wind. For those conditions it's been great. I like the compact shape and the sleeve it comes with as well. It slides into the side of my school backpack and doesn't turn packing my bag into a whole rearranging job.

Clarence Best

I find angling it into the breeze helps.

Having carried this in my work bag for a while now, I can see why a folding umbrella is worth bothering with. It packs away neatly but doesn't leave me feeling squeezed under a tiny canopy once it's up. My trouser legs have stayed reasonably dry too, provided I pay attention to where the rain is coming from. The ribs have coped well with breezy weather without turning over. I find angling it into the breeze helps. The oval loop is useful for carrying, although holding that shape for a long walk took some getting used to. It's a different grip from what I'm used to, but, well, I'm happy to make that small adjustment.

Belinda Palmer

Folded up it goes into my bag for commuting without much fuss.

These umbrellas have been good in the rain and breeze, with plenty of cover and a reassuringly solid feel. The loop is easy to get hold of, although a bit heavier in my small hands than I thought it would be. Folded up it goes into my bag for commuting without much fuss. Not the lightest to hold, but I'm giving it a good review as it meets the needs I had.

Alex Bray

The oval handle feels nice in my hand.

Good room for one person. The construction feels solid. The oval handle feels nice in my hand. The canopy is roughly 105cm across when open; that is the useful measurement for coverage. Folded length is about 40cm, so it fits my bag but isn't pocket sized. Weight is around 390g, which gives it some substance without feeling cumbersome.

Ian Juarez

Feels solid in a breeze.

For walking to work when the weather isn't too awful, it does the job nicely. My head and shoulders stay dry and I can see ahead under the edge. Feels solid in a breeze. After a longer walk the weight is noticeable though- I'd welcome a little padding (or finger shaping) on the oval handle, while keeping that closed loop for carrying.

Victoria French

The frame has coped with a bit of wind without any drama.

It does what I need, keeps the rain off, opens quickly and folds down to fit in the bag I take to work. The frame has coped with a bit of wind without any drama. Not the thinnest bundle once wrapped up, but easy enough to carry that I tend to leave it in my bag rather than risk being caught without it.

Misty Spence

Having shade while I'm walking is worth carrying it around.

Being fair skinned in Hawaii means I go through plenty of sunscreen, and a compact umbrella is something I usually carry for both shade and rain. I wanted one that felt substantial, and this has worked out nicely. It is a little heavier and takes up more space in my bag than the one I had before, but I don't find that much of a bother once I'm using it. Having shade while I'm walking is worth carrying it around. I still wear sunscreen, of course, the umbrella is just something extra I like having with me. It's handled the showers I've been out in well too. I wouldn't expect a small umbrella to cope with everything, but for my normal use this is great.

I live in a mountain valley and we get our share of breezy rain

Having an umbrella I can open without a whole performance makes a difference. I'm a teacher, and getting between my vehicle and work often involves bags or a cart, so I keep this in the car ready to grab. The automatic opening is genuinely handy when the other hand is occupied. I live in a mountain valley and we get our share of breezy rain; this has been comfortable to hold in the conditions I've used it in. It comes along when I walk the dog too, rather than making a rainy walk something to dread. There's enough canopy to cover me properly without carrying a full-length umbrella everywhere. People have asked about the unusual handle, which I like because it is easy to keep hold of. For me, something I can keep in the vehicle and actually use is worth more than an enormous umbrella left at home. Money well spent!

I chose the cream white folding umbrella for my sister's birthday.

I chose the cream white folding umbrella for my sister's birthday. She has been so pleased with it that it now stays in her car whenever she goes out. Apparently an office one would be welcome at Christmas too.My sister doesn't make a fuss over things unless they are genuinely good, so that says quite a lot. She likes how quickly it opens and how solid it seems for something that folds away. Around here in New Mexico the weather can change suddenly, with wind along with the rain. It has handled those outings well so far. The dependable feel is what she mentions most.

Justin Franklin

In Costa Rica we get alot of rain and wind.

Ive read comments about the handle being uncomfortable, but I don't agree. Mine arrived in good shape and feels fine in my hand. In Costa Rica we get alot of rain and wind. While I was walking a gust pushed at it, the frame flexed a little and then went back to shape. That reassured me!! People notice the handle too, the closed oval is not what they expect on an umbrella. Didn't think an umbrella would get comments. Funny.

Ray Taylor

The first rainy outing with this happened to be a windy one.

The first rainy outing with this happened to be a windy one. The ribs had some give when a gust caught the canopy, but nothing ended up bent out of shape. Carried on using it without any fuss. I also appreciate having the sleeve to put it in, rather than loose fabric catching on things in my bag. And the handle has that oval... loop... thing going on, which is actually quite comfortable to hold. Not a walking stick sort of umbrella, obviously, but that suits me fine (I would rather carry something that folds away than have another long thing to keep track of)

Laura Berry

Having this along for shade has been wonderful.

Having this along for shade has been wonderful. People comment on how it looks and I enjoy using it. I'm a fair skinned redhead and don't like the feel of lots of sunscreen, so being able to bring my own shade matters to me...I had it out in the strong sunshine at the outdoor fair last summer, then again at my school reunion at the ranch when it was very hot. Both times I was glad not to be standing in direct sun the whole day. It is a bit of comfort knowing it's in my bag whenever I'm outside. Looks nice as well! Once I fold it away it doesn't take up much room, and carrying it hasn't felt like a chore.

Terrence Luna

Really glad I decided to buy this.

Really glad I decided to buy this. Took it out in some pretty miserable rain because I couldnt resist giving it a try (: Kept me dry and didn't feel like I was fighting it the whole time. There was wind about too, and it coped nicely with what we had. I can see myself taking it out for a bit of shade in summer as well. the beige is very pretty to me. My husband doesn't bother much about how things look, practical is all he wants. but even he said it felt sturdy and nicely made for a folding umbrella.

Jeremiah Rivas

The loop is comfortable to hold and the umbrella feels sturdy.

The loop is comfortable to hold and the umbrella feels sturdy. Handy clipped onto my backpack, too. It has handled a breeze without fuss. The release button needs a firm push and I would prefer a slightly firmer carabiner gate. Still very pleased with it overall.

Norma Monroe

Might be my favorite umbrella purchase yet.

Might be my favorite umbrella purchase yet. The whole thing looks SO modern, and the cream white is striking without being fussy. People notice it on my walks around New York. That would mean nothing if it didn't keep me dry, but it does, with good coverage across my shoulders and back. I've used it near the Hudson where a breeze can make carrying an umbrella annoying, and it has felt steady instead of something I have to fight. The frame feels strong, yet I don't mind carrying it. Being able to fold it away is another big plus. For me this gets both the appearance and the useful stuff right. I'd happily pay for this again, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Absolutely worth it. A+ from me.

Marie Orozco

It opens quickly and feels reassuringly sturdy.

Good to have a canopy that keeps the rain a little farther from my shoulders. It opens quickly and feels reassuringly sturdy. Folded, it's bigger than the tiny pocket umbrellas, but I don't mind making room for it. It's stayed steady through the blustery showers I've encountered, and the handle is comfortable to keep hold of. I'm glad I chose the more substantial option!

Mark Liu

EXCELLENT umbrella.

EXCELLENT umbrella. Feels substantial, and the handle sits nicely in my hand. Gives me confidence I'll reach home dry. It covers a good area once opened, though folded it isn't quite a tiny pocket umbrella. Fits in my tote but I can feel the extra weight when I'm carrying everything else. Worth that bit of space to have decent cover.Update three years on! Still very happy with it. Walked home in a proper downpour tonight and was grateful not to be relying on one of my flimsy little umbrellas. I don't need it daily where I live, so it hasn't had constant use, but it is holding up nicely. The one thing to remember when packing it away is that the button closes the canopy, then I have to push the shaft back down by hand. Took a little getting used to at first. These days I barely think about it, and it hasn't stopped me being pleased with the umbrella.

Dennis Perez

Smart enough looking to take anywhere.

Good coverage for one person without having to carry a huge umbrella around. I've stayed dry walking in the rain with it, and the shaft feels solid. Smart enough looking to take anywhere. Not had it out in really heavy gusts, but lighter breezes haven't been a problem. The automatic opening is smooth and the handle has a reassuring feel, nothing flimsy about it.

Mackenzie Merritt

Only had one chance to use it in wind so far

Started walking to work so got this as my old umbrella wasn't doing much. Normal size was okay on a quick walk, but past about ten minutes I was wet and so was my backpack. This gives me much better coverage, enough for me, my bag and someone tucked in beside me. Only had one chance to use it in wind so far; it stood up well, even with quite strong gusts coming from different sides.

Winter in the Midwest means I never quite know what the weather…

Winter in the Midwest means I never quite know what the weather will be like by the time I leave work. I've had this umbrella out in some thoroughly miserable rain over the last few weeks, and it's made waiting at the campus bus stop much more comfortable. I don't feel as though I'm constantly wrestling with it just to stay covered. People have asked about it, mostly because it looks substantial when open but still folds down for a backpack. That's what I wanted rather than another long umbrella to carry around all day. It goes straight back in my bag after drying, and I expect it'll be staying there for the rest of the season.

Cheryl Andrews

There is a lot more coverage than I expected from a folding umbrella.

There is a lot more coverage than I expected from a folding umbrella. I'm 5'2" and it reaches well past my shoulders, so I don't end up with rain dripping straight onto my trousers. The pink is easy for other people to notice when they are walking towards me, which I appreciate on a busy pavement. You can't look through it, so I hold it high enough to see ahead rather than pulling it down around my face. The button opens it and folds the canopy; pushing the stem down afterwards took a little practice. Now it feels straightforward. Very happy with how substantial it is!

Wendy Rangel

Such a lovely umbrella!

Such a lovely umbrella! Used it in gusty rain and came home dry, which is exactly what I wanted. Good to have something that gives decent cover AND doesn't feel like a struggle to hold when the weather turns. The loop handle sits comfortably in my hand, and a press of the button gets it open straight away. The flexible ribs seem to cope well with a bit of movement. Easy to recommend this one.

Devin Phelps

Size is small when folded, so taking it along is easy.

Size is small when folded, so taking it along is easy. For sudden rain it is useful, also for making shade when the sun comes out. Too much weight in a handbag is not good, this one is manageable. Opening is by the button so not much work. The canopy closes also, then push the stem in by hand. Easy enough to carry around. For everyday weather rather than very bad weather.

Duane Raymond

This feels sturdy and has handled my usual walks well.

An umbrella earns its keep where I live in Seattle, and this one has been worth the money so far. I keep hearing that locals are supposed to just wear a hood. Fine for them, but I would rather have something over my head than arrive with rain dripping down my face. This feels sturdy and has handled my usual walks well. The oval loop is handy to carry, although I still like the idea of a wrist strap when I'm not using it. The button hasn't given me any trouble and it stays shut until I want it open. Early days compared with some I've owned, but I'm hoping it carries on being this dependable.

Bobby Underwood

The compromise for me is the handle.

Surprisingly generous cover once it's open, considering how little room it takes up folded. It slips into my laptop bags quite neatly, which was the main thing I wanted. The compromise for me is the handle. The closed oval loop feels a little short in my hand compared with the longer grips on the big golf umbrellas I'm used to. It's fine in normal rain, but when there's a gust I want a bit more to get hold of. Still a useful size for carrying around, just worth knowing if you have larger hands.

Seth Hubbard

Honestly, spending a little more on a decent umbrella makes sense.

Honestly, spending a little more on a decent umbrella makes sense. You don't save much if the cheap one feels nasty every time you use it. I tried saving a few dollars before and wasn't impressed. This one has a proper solid feel and I much prefer the closed loop grip. It's the sort of detail you notice when you're actually carrying it. Umbrellas cost enough already without buying ones you don't enjoy using. I'm planning on another to keep at work for those unexpected wet days.

Travis Zimmerman

Beige compact umbrella for everyday shade

My friend has admired this umbrella enough that I am thinking of buying her one for her birthday. I mainly wanted some shade because of a skin condition, and the canopy gives me a comfortable patch to stand under without carrying a great big umbrella. It has felt steady in the breezes I've used it in, though I wouldn't keep it up if the wind became too much. The ribs have a little give rather than feeling rigid. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes being outside but wants a handy shelter from sun or rain.Beige compact umbrella for everyday shade

Hailey Stein

Hard to argue with the value.

Hard to argue with the value. It's a useful size, the cream white looks good, and the rain beads off well. Feels sturdy too. There was a new smell around the handle, but I only really noticed with it close to my face, not across the room. A little transferred to my hands, but washed off easily. I expect it will fade as it gets aired out, so not a big concern for me.

Bernard Boyer

This does pretty much everything I need an umbrella to do.

This does pretty much everything I need an umbrella to do. I've had folding ones that were easy to tuck away but didn't feel worth carrying once the rain actually started. This one is compact without giving me that impression. It has a reassuringly substantial frame and the fabric sheds the rain well. The loop handle gives me a comfortable hold, so I'm not constantly adjusting my hand while I walk. Opening it is quick, too, which I appreciate when I'm already getting wet. There is decent coverage over my shoulders rather than that feeling of balancing a tiny roof directly over my head. It's still an umbrella for carrying around yourself, not a giant shelter, but that's fine by me. Useful size, sturdy feel, and actually does its job!

Raymond Raymond

I keep this in my backpack for unexpected rain.

I keep this in my backpack for unexpected rain. Fits in there fine and for the price I think it's alright. It has worked whenever I've needed it. I'm just not sure I'd want to meet a really strong wind with it. Being in the windy city, I know the name is meant to be about politicians, but we get plenty of the actual wind as well. I'd prefer a slightly more substantial feel. Then again, wanting a travel umbrella that's easy to carry and also feels like a tank is probably asking a lot. Nothing has gone wrong with it, that's just my impression.

Becky Page

The students have mentioned the oval loop handle most!

Each May I give umbrellas to graduating high school students headed off to college, my own kids included. This is a practical gift that can go into a book bag without taking over the whole bag. Being able to open it with the button is especially useful when someone is juggling books. Another press folds the canopy, then the shaft needs a push down by hand. The students have mentioned the oval loop handle most! They find it easy to get hold of and keep a secure grip on, which matters when carrying other things. The ones I've handed out have done well in the Midwest rain and ordinary wind so far. So, this is something I am happy to keep recommending.

Rebekah Blake

What a useful umbrella!

What a useful umbrella! Walking from the train to my office this morning, the rain was blowing about and I was glad to have it. It felt steady in my hand and I didn't arrive with wet shoulders. The frame has some give rather than feeling rigid.I particularly like being able to open it with one press. When I'm done, another press gathers the canopy, and I compress the telescoping pole myself to finish putting it away. That's much easier than wrestling wet fabric at the office door. The sleeve also makes the folded umbrella look tidy when I'm carrying it.To anyone wondering about the handle... it's an oval loop, not the usual curved stick end. I find that perfectly convenient, and it gives me a decent grip. Hardly the most dramatic thing about an umbrella... but a useful detail all the same.

Daisy Novak

Was looking for something that felt dependable in wind.

Was looking for something that felt dependable in wind. This has done well on that front so far and seems solid. It's a bit bigger folded than I expected, though the coverage makes up for it. Might choose a lighter one for a travel bag, but happy to keep using this.

Don Ibarra

For what I paid I feel I've done well.

Coverage isn't enormous, but that's part of why I wanted a folding umbrella rather than one more long thing to carry. It goes into a pocket on my golf bag, and the loop handle gives me another way to keep it with the bag when I need it handy. The sleeve is useful for storage, nothing complicated, just somewhere to put it when it's dry. I've tried the automatic opening and canopy closing a few times and both have been smooth. You still press the stem down yourself afterwards, which is straightforward. For what I paid I feel I've done well. I wouldn't have wanted to spend a huge amount more on something to keep in the bag, but at this price I'm pleased.

Vanessa Huber

A few things worth noting!

After several wet walks through Chicago, this umbrella has earned its spot in my bag. A few things worth noting!+ Enough cover for me and the work bag tucked close, without taking over the whole pavement.+ Flexible frame. It has coped nicely with the blustery showers I've used it in, though I haven't tried a serious storm.+ Easy to carry. The oval handle gives me a good grip, and it folds small enough to bring along even when the forecast looks hopeful.I'd suggest it for a walking commute, not just those few steps between your front door and the car!

Natalie Johnson

There's something wonderfully mod about this umbrella.

There's something wonderfully mod about this umbrella. For anyone who enjoys a bit of '60s style in everyday things, it fits right in. It looks good, but I wouldn't keep using it just for the look. The canopy gives me a comfortable amount of space and the frame feels substantial when it's open.I also appreciate being able to pop it up with the button rather than fussing around. My one quibble is carrying it when I've already got things in my hands; the closed loop takes a little getting used to. Still, that's a small trade-off for an umbrella I actually enjoy taking out, and it has kept me dry as well as looking the part.

Suzanne Ramsey

What stood out to me was how easy the handle is on my hands.

What stood out to me was how easy the handle is on my hands. That might sound a small point, but with older, arthritic hands it matters quite a lot. The closed oval shape gives me something secure to grip without having to squeeze hard. It opens readily with the button and the canopy is a comfortable size for one person. Mine is blue and looks quite understated. I've used it in rain and a bit of wind with no trouble. The ribs have some flex to them rather than feeling like thin, rigid bits that will bend and stay bent.

Kent Hardin

It feels solidly assembled -- I'm pleased with it.

Folded, this is about 40 cm long and goes into my messenger bag easily. The weight is manageable and the open canopy gives me good cover for everyday rain. It feels solidly assembled -- I'm pleased with it.One thing to know about closing: the handle button opens it, and another press folds the canopy shut. That doesn't shorten the stem. You then slide the telescoping sections together by hand until they lock, ready for the next time. It took one try to get used to that.
