Keeping the rain off is the main thing, and this manages that. The green looks quite nice too. What I don't particularly like is how bulky it feels once folded, and pressing the pole down after shutting the canopy takes more effort than I would prefer. Neither stops me using it, but they make it less convenient than I had hoped for a compact umbrella. The price makes those compromises easier to accept. If I had spent a lot more I would be more bothered. Overall, useful enough and fair value, just not something I'm especially enthusiastic about.

A little more weight in my bag than a tiny umbrella.
Pros:Strong feeling frame, copes well with the breezes I've used it in.Good sized patch of shade, much nicer than standing in direct sun.The handle is secure to hold.Button opening is handy.Cons:The closed oval loop isn't the same as a hooked handle, so I can't just drape it over my arm.A little more weight in my bag than a tiny umbrella.Overall, excellent for me. Glad I spent the money.

Easy enough to carry, and perfectly suited to our usual rain.
Some comments had made me hesitate; but, ordered four as they seemed good value.Am VERY satisfied with what turned up. Easy enough to carry, and perfectly suited to our usual rain. We aren't battling wild gusts here, so that isn't something I can judge, but for everyday use these are great!

I'm happy with the umbrella.
Recommended. My first purchase here and it was all straightforward. I'm happy with the umbrella. The pink looks good, and although I wasn't sure about the black underneath in the pictures, I actually think the contrast suits it.The handle is different from the usual curved kind, being a closed oval loop. It took a little getting used to but doesn't spoil the appearance at all. Otherwise it feels solid and the frame has a nice amount of give without seeming flimsy. Good quality. Easy enough to carry, though I should say it isn't a tiny umbrella once it's folded. I keep it in the sleeve in a bag rather than trying to fit it into a pocket. The button opens it quickly and also folds the fabric part back in. You still have to press the shaft down by hand afterwards, so don't expect it to shorten itself as well. Once I understood that it was quite simple. There is comfortable coverage for me when open, although I wouldn't pick this size for two people. It was packed well and reached me in good condition.

Florida gives us plenty of sudden rain, so my husband is quite particular about how an umbrella is put together. He likes the flexible ribs on this one, and I appreciate how much cover it gives me without being awkward to bring along. I'm not expecting anything to make tropical storms pleasant, but for our everyday showers I think this will be a very welcome companion.

Sent this as part of a charity gift for a little girl who had asked for an umbrella. There's something nice about giving a child a practical present of her own. I wasn't there when she opened it or tried it, but I hope it made her Christmas feel a little more special

The construction is excellent.
It folds down neatly enough for my larger handbag and doesn't take over the whole bag. A little heavier than I'd pictured, although that is my only real reservation. The construction is excellent. There is a simple sleeve for storage, rather than anything bulky. A very good purchase. I think it earns its price.

Handy even without a drop of rain!
Bought it with wet weather in mind, but the weekend ballgame stayed sunny so my husband and I put it to work for shade. JUST RIGHT! We sat close and both got some relief (neither of us is tiny), with a little air moving underneath. Handy even without a drop of rain!

Feels good quality and nice and sturdy haha.
I'm really happy, I like this umbrella a lot haha. Feels good quality and nice and sturdy haha. I'd buy another next time I need one. I'm really happy, I like this umbrella a lot haha. Feels good quality and nice and sturdy haha. I'd buy another next time I need one.

The ribs seem securely attached and it opens without any fuss.
I looked over the frame carefully when it arrived because I was worried about how a compact umbrella would hold up. The ribs seem securely attached and it opens without any fuss. Having now used it in a proper thunderstorm, I'm much more confident in it. It did everything I wanted from an umbrella and kept me dry through the rain.

Anyway, a very happy owner here and definitely worthy of 5 STARS!
Week after week of wet morning commutes and this umbrella is still going strong. The build feels a lot more substantial than the ones I've owned before.I don't expect to replace it soon, but whenever that day comes I'd buy the same again. Why can't more everyday stuff feel this well made?Anyway, a very happy owner here and definitely worthy of 5 STARS!

Cannot recommend it enough, great looking and good quality.
This is a FANTASTIC umbrella, for its looks as much as the solid feel. In the photos it doesn't come across nearly as nice as it does for real. The frame feels substantial and the whole thing seems very well put together.I don't expect it to give in at every little breeze. Cannot recommend it enough, great looking and good quality.

The umbrella is a little heavier than I pictured, around 390g when I weighed it. The opening/closing button also sits where I needed some practice to reach comfortably. So for somebody wanting the lightest possible umbrella it might not be ideal. For me the substantial feel is reassuring and I'm pleased with how it works.

A really good umbrella, we're very happy with ours.
I think alot of the low ratings are a bit harsh, although everyone's experience will be different. For most people wanting a folding umbrella I reckon this will be a pleasant surprise. It's coped nicely with wet, breezy days and my wife finds room for it in her larger handbag, so it actually comes along rather than being left behind. The automatic canopy close is very convenient too, no wrestling with wet fabric. A really good umbrella, we're very happy with ours.

Well packed on arrival.
Well packed on arrival. The dimentions were what I needed, I had worked out it should fit diagonally into my luggage..and it does!Recomended. My wife likes the design and the solid feel is a plus too. Looks tidy when opened out as well, and for packing it works out just as I'd hoped.

They were just what we needed.
Got a dozen for a family party, then rain in the forecast had us getting another dozen. No worrying about everyone finding shelter!!Smart black umbrellas, a good amount of cover and a button to open them with one hand. They were just what we needed. Money well spent!

My grandson couldn't wait to open his new umbrella.
My grandson couldn't wait to open his new umbrella. It feels nicely made and he was very proud to have a proper one of his own. I help him get it ready, then he wants to be the one holding it. To him it's much more than something for rain. I'm sure his friends will hear all about it as soon as he sees them.
Jo Grimes
I'd recommend it from what I've seen.
Quite a neat looking umbrella with that oval handle (looks nice but not the easiest shape for me to grip, hence 4 stars rather than 5). Seems sturdy too - it has survived my busy 3 year old getting hold of it. No proper downpour to try it in yet, but I'm expecting it to be fine. I'd recommend it from what I've seen.
Kim Humphrey
Small, yes, but it's a travel umbrella rather than a big one.
No complains from me about this umbie. It's seen sleety weather in Boston and downpours in Miami. Small, yes, but it's a travel umbrella rather than a big one. I usually put a raincoat on in heavy rain/snow, with this giving me and my purse some extra cover. Slips into my bag easily (which isn't a bag big enough for everything I possess...) and has been really good.
Stacy Vance
Couldn't get an umbrella for my grandson and leave his sister out.
Couldn't get an umbrella for my grandson and leave his sister out. She loves hers! The push down part is still rather stiff for her, so I help with that after the canopy closes. Once it's open though, she's off showing everybody. It's getting plenty of use and she's thouroughly pleased with it. Thank you..
Debra Lucero
It kept me dry and wasn't a nuisance to bring along.
Picked the beige before our Alaska trip as rain was pretty much expected. It kept me dry and wasn't a nuisance to bring along. The button is convenient, although after it gathers the canopy you still have to compress the telescoping part yourself. That last push needs more effort than I'd like, which is my reason for four stars. Otherwise it worked very well for the trip, and people in our group could recognise my beige umbrella in the crowd!
Jim Rich
Happy I spent the money!
My old sun unbrella was' nt much help, still felt hot standing beneath it.With this one the shade is noticeable straight away, rather like stepping underneath a tree. It makes being out in the sun feel a lot more comfortable, that was what I wanted. Happy I spent the money! (Feels a bit stronger as well)
Dave Hess
The weight was another pleasant surprise.
There is more room under this umbrella than I expected from seeing it folded. I've had bigger umbrellas before, but the coverage doesn't help much when the whole thing catches the wind. The ribs on this one have some give to them rather than feeling rigid and brittle. That seems sensible to me, although opening an umbrella indoors only tells you so much.
Press the button and it's up ready to use. Nice! Putting it away is fairly straightforward as well. The button folds the canopy down, then you press the telescoping section together yourself. Once I'd done that once it was easy enough.
Arranging the fabric neatly takes a little more thought. Apparently I can still make a simple folding job complicated. It's easier if I spend a moment getting everything lying together instead of just squeezing it into a bundle. It does make a reasonably tidy package when finished.
The weight was another pleasant surprise. I haven't put it on scales, but with it open I expected to feel more weight in my hand. It feels substantial without being tiring just to hold up. Overall the construction gives me a good impression. Nothing about it makes me feel I need to handle it with kid gloves.

UPDATE:
It's now had a proper outing in wet weather, including rain coming in at an angle and some fairly gusty moments. I stayed dry, and the frame handled the outing well. There is still a pull on your hand when the wind catches the canopy. I found turning it towards the wind helped, rather than trying to hold it in exactly the same position throughout.
Looking along the train platform, there were people wrestling with much larger umbrellas and others whose little ones weren't covering their shoulders very well. This feels like a reasonable compromise. I appreciated the coverage while waiting, and being able to fold it down when the train arrived.
My main thought after actually using it is that bigger isn't automatically better for everybody. You need something you're comfortable holding as well as something that covers you. This one strikes that balance nicely for me. I'm still impressed with it.
Tanner Humphrey
This makes me smile when it springs open.
This makes me smile when it springs open. It has a nice shape, feels well put together and the button works smoothly to open it and gather the canopy. I do like very light umbrellas that disappear into a small purse, but some feel so slight that I spend the whole walk worrying about them, and the cover is barely enough. This one has a bit more weight and takes up more room folded, so there's a choice to make--less to carry, or something that feels more substantial and gives decent cover. For me this is the better compromise. The oval loop on the handle is handy for attaching it to my bag (one of my others has no convenient way to hang it, which annoys me)
Deborah Bradley
The sunglasses marks weren't a great look either.
I'd been thinking about getting an umbrella mainly for shade for ages, but kept putting it off because I wasn't sure how much I'd actually carry it. The pink one has ended up being something I use far more than I thought. I don't enjoy being out in strong sunshine, especially on my lunchtime walk. It's about two and a half miles beside the water, with very few shady stretches, and I was fed up with arriving back at work sweaty and with my arms catching more sun than the rest of me. The sunglasses marks weren't a great look either. It gives me a much more comfortable walk and has felt sturdy on the breezier parts of the route. Folded up, it's manageable in my bag, although not one of those tiny umbrellas you forget you're carrying. I still sometimes stand there deciding whether to take it when the sky looks dull. An even smaller umbrella might be handy for those uncertain days, just to have another option, but I'm glad this has a decent amount of cover when it's open. I've used it in proper heavy rain too and stayed nicely sheltered underneath. I bought it with sunny walks in mind, so being useful when the weather turns has been a bonus. Definitely one of my more useful purchases!
Brendan Kirk
I've had it out in the rain and it has kept me dry.
I've looked at quite a few compact umbrellas and this is one of the nicest looking ones I've found. It opens to a useful size without feeling too heavy in my hand. I've had it out in the rain and it has kept me dry. I still wouldn't take it between the tall buildings downtown when the gusts really get going, that's not a test I feel like doing. My daughter uses hers for shade at school and has had several people ask where it came from. It looks smart rather than fussy, which I like. I paid less than I expected for something that feels this good, so that was a pleasant surprise too. After seeing how much use she gets out of hers, I'm thinking of getting a few for her friends. For the money I think it's an excellent buy!
Carly Spence
Mostly happy with this umbrella.
Mostly happy with this umbrella. It has stayed the right way round in wind, which was the big thing I wanted. I've had it a little over a year, though it hasn't had much use (not exactly a lot of rain in California!). It feels solid, but carrying it about makes me wish it were lighter. For the money I expected something a bit less bulky when folded. Nothing wrong with the way it works, just not quite the effortless everyday umbrella I'd hoped for. I'd think about the size before getting another.
Monique Walters
Exactly the sort of umbrella I needed.
Exactly the sort of umbrella I needed. Didn't spend a fortune, so I wasn't expecting it to feel this well put together. It's a nice gray, quite simple, and looks better in person than I thought it would. Opened up, there's room for me and my bag without having to tuck everything against my legs. Then it folds down, which makes it much less awkward to bring along. I can hold it high enough to see ahead and still keep covered. All in all, money well spent.
Devin Santos
The handle feels solid and gives me something easy to carry it by.
The button operation took a little getting used to, since this is a different umbrella from what I'm used to carrying. It looked fairly compact folded, so I was surprised by the coverage when I opened it. The handle feels solid and gives me something easy to carry it by. One press gets the canopy up, another brings it together, then I push the shaft down myself. It sounded a bit fussy before I tried it, but really isn't. I'm quite short and there's good cover over my head and shoulders, with room round my arms as well. In rain it has kept me comfortably dry without having to hunch everything underneath it. It has felt steady in some gusts too, though I wouldn't go looking for extreme weather. :)The fabric feels substantial rather than papery. I haven't noticed any buildup so far.Neat looking and useful is really all I wanted, so this suits me nicely! The different handle seemed odd to me at first, but now I like it. I've had people comment on it and ask about it as well.
Zachary Donaldson
Great umbrella.
Great umbrella. Plenty of cover above my head to keep the rain off, and it feels solid rather than flimsy in my hand. The blue makes a wet day a bit less dull because, well, I like a bit of colour. If you want something that looks good AND hasn't turned inside out at the first gust, this has been a great find.
Fred Warren
For what I paid, this was a very good buy.
For what I paid, this was a very good buy. I wouldn't want to spend a huge amount more on it, though! It's a sensible size when opened, not one of those tiny umbrellas that barely covers your head. Feels reasonably well made and it looks nice. The materials are decent, just don't expect something built for serious storms. My son likes using it and I didn't have to spend much to get him an umbrella he's happy with. No complaints about that.
Bridget Vasquez
Small thing, appreciated on a messy wet day .
My expectations got rather high from reading the reviews . After more than six months with this one, I think it falls a little short of all that praise . Still, it feels reasonably strong, works well for me, and is a nice looking umbrella . The grip sits nicely in my palm . Having a compact handle is a good thing 'cause there is enough other stuff taking up room in my bag, without a long end making a funny lump against the side . That used to annoy me with umbrellas, not a serious problem but it looked silly, lol . The closed loop at the handle is also useful when I have more stuffs to hold than spare hands . A couple of fingers through there and it feels more secure while I sort myself out . Small thing, appreciated on a messy wet day .
Putting it away is actually one of my favourite parts . I can gather the fabric fairly quickly and get the sleeve over it without spending ages making everything perfect !! When you are trying to get inside somewhere, with wet things and a bag that is already full, you just want the umbrella packed reasonably neat . This one lets me do that . Not saying it takes no effort, just less fuss than I was expecting from looking at it .
So I am satisfied, although my first expectations were a bit bigger than the actual experience . For the money it seems decent, tidy in its construction, and sturdy enough for my usual walking around town in ordinary showers . In stronger gusts I do feel it catching and I pay attention to which way I hold it . Perhaps I am too ready to turn my arm because of previous flimsy umbrellas :-) That little movement before you even think about it, you know ? :-) Anyway, not wonderful beyond everything else, but a useful purchase for me .

You still compress the stem afterwards, which is simple enough.
After my old automatic umbrella gave up, I spent ages trying to find another that wasn't disappointingly small. A few looked generous in the pictures but didn't give me the cover I wanted. This one feels a good size for everyday use and I really like the cream white, a nice change from what I had. Being able to collapse the canopy with one press is the part I appreciate most when getting into a car or onto a bus. You still compress the stem afterwards, which is simple enough. For what I paid, I'm very happy, especially after looking at some much dearer options.

The green is beautiful!
The green is beautiful! Nothing fussy about the design, just a really attractive umbrella. The button action is smooth and quick, and the loop handle feels as nicely finished as the rest of it. It would be a lovely present for someone who enjoys a smart looking everyday item that's useful too.

My four year old is so taken with her black umbrella! She wanted to carry it straight away. There's lots of room over her, and we've stayed nice and dry using it together. I help with the button and packing it away, but she loves having her own proper umbrella. The plain black looks very smart, even on a miserable wet day!

My daughter is a first year student at a women's college in Virginia, and this was a present for her. She is delighted with it and keeps telling me how many compliments she gets. Apparently rain is now a chance to take her umbrella out rather than just a nuisance. She says it's roomy enough for a friend to squeeze alongside her, which she likes. I can't report on strong winds as she hasn't had to use it in those conditions. It seemed reasonably priced to me, and hearing how much she enjoys using it makes me very pleased I chose it.

(I wanted something for one person, not a great big beach umbrella).
I went with Cream White, and the colour is just beautiful. It has the neat, understated look I was hoping for rather than anything too decorative. I did hesitate over the price, but having used it as a parasol I am happy I spent the money. It gives me a comfortable patch of shade without being so broad that I feel in everyone's way when walking around.(I wanted something for one person, not a great big beach umbrella). The loop handle feels solid in my hand, and the whole thing is rather smart looking. I also appreciate that I can fold it away instead of having a long umbrella to carry afterwards. The button is handy, though I would have bought it for the appearance alone.I'm very fond of it. A lower price would probably tempt me into another colour.
Brian Jacobs
Just a good, manageable umbrella.
Rainy walks to work are much less of a battle now! My old big umbrella used to pull me about whenever the breeze caught it. This one feels solid but is easier for me to keep under control. It has kept me dry and I don't spend the whole walk adjusting my grip. Just a good, manageable umbrella. I'm glad I changed.
Phillip Collins
This morning's rain gave it a proper tryout.
My main reason for choosing it was to have enough room over me and the things I take to work. This morning's rain gave it a proper tryout. With my bag tucked close, I could keep my purse, tablet, books and lunch under the canopy instead of trying to keep just my head dry. A press of the button got it ready quickly. I noticed the ribs had some give when I rested it by the car while getting the door unlocked. At work I let it stand open, and it dried out nicely before I put it away.It has done what I needed so far. Folded up, it still takes a fair amount of room in a bag, so don't expect a tiny umbrella. The canopy material looks quite light to me. I'd avoid putting it near anything sharp, though I haven't had it long enough to know how delicate it really is.
Kristopher Mcconnell
The handle is what stands out for me.
The folding design makes it a sensible umbrella to carry rather than something I leave at home because it is too long. There are plenty of flexible ribs underneath and it feels well put together, not just a small canopy on a flimsy frame. The handle is what stands out for me. That closed oval shape sits comfortably in my hand and feels secure to hold. I prefer it to a tiny straight grip that I am forever adjusting when it rains. It packs into its sleeve and will go in my tote or under the car seat without being in the way. A useful size without giving up the coverage I need.
Brandon Harrington
Folded up, it works for that.
It's only the beginning of May and I'm already struggling with the heat. I don't tolerate it well, so I wanted something I could use for shade without carrying a long parasol around. After a lot of looking I chose this because it fits in my larger purse. I've used it in sunshine and a light breeze, and being underneath it feels noticeably more comfortable than standing in direct sun. That is what I wanted it for. I haven't put it through much rain or serious wind, so I can't say anything useful about that side of it.The black is rather plain for my taste. I tend to like things that are a little "prettier", but I also wanted something practical enough to have with me instead of leaving it at home. Folded up, it works for that. I might still want a bigger umbrella for sitting around outside at home, but for taking along this has been a very sensible choice. The colour isn't exciting, yet it does the job I bought it to do.
Dalton Hoffman
Solid construction.
Solid construction. Having so many ribs keeps the canopy nicely shaped, and the fabric doesn't feel heavy. Much easier to carry than a huge golfing umbrella. It gives proper cover without that dragging, waterlogged feeling above you. I liked it enough to buy one for a friend.
Blake Kramer
These feel like a good buy for what I paid.
These feel like a good buy for what I paid. I wasn't expecting quite so much umbrella once opened, especially since it folds away. The construction seems solid and the button is useful. At this price I don't feel I need to baby them either. I'd be happy to pay a little more for the same quality. Would buy again, probably for gifts.

Reviews helped me decide on this umbrella.
Reviews helped me decide on this umbrella. I'm in Manhattan and the wind can be a nuisance, but so far it's been great to use. I havent run into any problems. Still considering a bigger umbrella for heavier rain, but I'd happily recommend this one to other people.
Karen Hebert
Definitely one I'd recommend!
I've kept one of these around for years, and have given them as presents too. I've even mentioned it on my blog because it has been such a useful umbrella. It feels sturdy, and the button control is a real help when I'm carrying other things. It isn't the tiniest folded umbrella, but I prefer having the extra room overhead rather than squeezing under a tiny canopy. Definitely one I'd recommend!
Danny Mclaughlin
Good coverage, not a chore to carry, and it looks smart too.
Good coverage, not a chore to carry, and it looks smart too. Rain rolls off it nicely. What else do I need? I've used it long enough now to be happy with how it's lasting, no tears or anything troublesome. I'd replace it with the same if I lost it. Even the box looked good.
Ernest Cardenas
The flexible ribs are reassuring without making it cumbersome.
Finding a folding umbrella for my wife with decent coverage AND a frame that didn't feel flimsy narrowed things down. This one isn't the cheapest option, but it feels carefully made. The flexible ribs are reassuring without making it cumbersome. No grand luxury feel, just a practical umbrella that she is happy to carry.
Nicole Barajas
This is a reasonable weight for carrying around the golf course
This is a reasonable weight for carrying around the golf course; however, it is a handheld umbrella rather than something that works well over a push cart. There isn't the height or coverage I wanted for both myself and the cart. Fine on its own for one person, but not what I needed for golfing.
Erica Sloan
My gray umbrella has been a good buy for summer.
My gray umbrella has been a good buy for summer. Opens without a struggle and the coverage is a nice size. It has felt steady on breezy days too. The only thing, it could be a little easier to fold up neatly when I'm finished. I like the color and would be quite happy to buy another.

I wanted an umbrella to leave in the car pocket for the sudden rain here in South Florida. This one has done well so far and hasn't flipped inside out in strong wind. Bigger when opened than most folding ones I've had, enough for two people if they huddle a little.
